Revontuli, Yukon and emerald coast have nice variety to animals. You can always go multiplayer to test each map before you decide

The females won't affect the male spawns at all, so you can shoot them or leave em, it won't change how the males spawn

I agree with Yukon and emerald coast, however I’d also add vurhonga savanna if you’re interested in a lot of new, exotic species. However that map is old and a lot of the animal models are outdated.

There's tools you can used to check the population on your reserves to see how many animals are diamond or rare variants. Might help you decide which animals and where to hunt, unless you're going to herd manage to grind

Whether it's related to your off clicks or not, I would recommend using the shooting range to check your shooting if you ever feel like you've got "bad shots". There's a shooting range on the Hirschfelden map.

The best settings ultimately depends on your own system + personal preference. Some have higher spec graphics cards that can handle more than other computers can, as an example. For misclicks specifically, I recommend checking the resolution of your game as Grim mentioned. Your resolution in game should ideally match the resolution of your monitor.

Your PC is always going to work 100% to achieve the highest framerate that it can no matter what graphics settings you use. The way to stop this is by locking the game to a framerate lower than what the hardware is capable of generating at maximum utilization. So for example, most maps for me run about 80fps on my current settings. Without doing anything else, my GPU would be at 100% trying to achieve that 80fps. But, I locked my game to 60fps, so it's not working as hard

my advice, adjust the settings until you're up to a somewhat consistent 70fps if you can, then in your GPU software, create a profile for the game, and tell it to lock it to 60, and your PC will run much quieter

Blah I'm really struggling with Peppe's Challenge achievement (Harvest 5 animals from the same herd with a single shot to the heart using a bow). I've confirmed that it's the one pack I'm hunting from, got 7 heart shots, no achievement pop. I suspect the achievement doesn't allow for any respawns in the herd..? I've been changing the time to get the same herd to reappear at their usual drinking spot every day. Then shoot one heart (I can't shoot any more than that because they will flee). After a time reset or two, new deer will show up in that herd.

I know it's the single herd because of their behaviour. You only need to draw one of the deer in with the caller, the rest of the pack will respond. Any deer that doesn't follow you know is not part of that herd. Also, when the male flees, the rest of the herd follow. If a male flees but the rest of the herd stays, you know it's not a single pack. And I know it's the same herd because of a particular rare fur type I use as an identifier.
I can't tell if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's just bugged.

I know crossbow should work for the achievement, and I've seen posts where you don't have to get them all in one sitting - so you can time travel + restart the game. But I got no idea. I'm tempted to ask support about what the exact requirements are because unfortunately the concept of a 'herd' is apparently malleable, especially regarding respawning.
I've also heard reports from others about how the group ID of herds can change for whatever reason, and I wonder if a change of that group ID number counts as a change of herd, even if they're the exact same deer. (It might be that respawns cause the group ID to change. Which essentially would mean that you probably have to harvest all 5 before respawns can happen.)

I just started the game today, no DLC. I’ve been struggling on aiming properly (scope always moving) and what should’ve been vital shots not penetrating.

I’m also finding it a bit hard to properly find animals.

Any tips and tricks for a newbie like me?

Welcome to the game! The game can be difficult to get started with, but it can be very rewarding to learn.
Firstly I recommend you head over to the shooting range on the Hirschfelden map. There you can get a good feeling of how the aiming works and where your shots actually land.
If your scope is swaying too much, ensure that your heartrate is low (don't run around before shooting), and hold shift to hold your breath to steady your aim.

If bullets aren't penetrating as you expect, check what type of ammo and gun you're using. Each animal has a class number. You'll want to use ammo that can handle that class. And where there are multiple types of ammo that fit the bill, it's nearly always better to pick the option that has a higher penetration value. Each gun also has an effective range, so if a rifle has an effective range of 150m, then anything over that will decrease in penetration. The closer something is, the higher the penetration.

If you're finding it hard to find animals, there are some areas that can be a bit 'dead'. Areas with water are a great way to find animals though because 1. nearly every animal must drink, and 2. the water areas are more open.

Hi I have a problem I need some help with, I’m hunting tigers and I have 6 that I swapped into zones I wanted but now the zones are permanently empty and won’t respawn. After grinding roughly 40 kills on the same 6 tiger swapped zones, the tigers stopped appearing entirely. I’ve tried adjusting in-game time, visiting during proper drink hours (4:00-7:00), sleeping full 24-hour cycles, leaving and returning to the map, and even hunting other reserves and coming back—but those 6 zones remain empty. Meanwhile, the other zones still have their tigers and I don’t want to touch them as they are in zones I don’t like. The swapped males that I killed no longer come back to their new home ranges. What can I do?

Animals are never at their zone on time. They have to travel to the location first. I normally do an hour or 45 minutes after the drink time for most animals. If the map has Predators like tigers or mountain lions that could spook them its more like 2 hours after the start time they will be in their zone.

i had this same issue a while back when i started playing again on my new pc what helped for me was download it again after removing it, and verifyed the game like Grim also said, and after everything worked as it should.

Difficulty and spooking seems to be based on proximity. For example, if I stay completely still and use a caller to get the animals to come to me, higher levels will become anxious + alert further away, it was 40 metres for Lvl 4s I found. Lvl 1s on the other hand only become anxious + alert when they're like.. 15 metres away from me. Not sure if these levels vary between species. I was only testing on Reindeer.

Took me months of going back and forth to different spots and using different methods. Despite doing all you can to avoid crocs and all otherwise, they are still very buggy and like to flee

Just a matter of trying to setup various spots and seeing if they’ll come in

What's your current method?
Generally you want to walk around - avoid running unless you think there's no animals within 200m. Don't use the atv, it's too loud and will spook things very easily.
Drink spots are great for spotting but there may be a few hours where animals aren't scheduled to actually show at drink spots.

Animals at feed, rest, or drink zones shouldn't move away for a while unless you spook them or their schedule at that feed zone ends.
You should hopefully have some need zones already mapped out. On the map you should see what time that need zone may be occupied, so you go to that need zone, but time it so that you arrive half way into that need zone time. So if the need zone is 4-8, aim to arrive at 6.

I just forced myself to use the alexander bow until I eventually learned how to use it good. lol The important things to remember is that, unlike a rifle where you can shoot from say.. 100m or 50m, a 10m difference you don't have to adjust much for, compare that to a bow, and 10m is a big difference that you have to adjust a lot for. There is also the wind to factor in.

Handgun works the best for me! I usually keep backing up away from the noise and use the handgun to shoot anything within 40+ metres. If they get too close they'll lunge for you, but further than that.. they should just circle around you which makes it very easy to shoot their vitals.
Shoot each one as soon as you can so you don't get overwhelmed.
There's only one time I've been overwhelmed and died, and it was because they were too close, practically all on top of me.

Each animal has a difficulty, with each species having their own max difficulty. For example, the European rabbit has a max difficulty of 3. Whereas a Red Deer has a max difficulty of 9.

The higher the difficulty, the rarer they are, and the higher the trophy score (generally). A Red Deer that is difficulty 9 would probably be a Diamond trophy score since 9 is their max. A European Rabbit with with a difficulty 5 would probably be a Diamond because 5 is their max.

So a Red Deer being a difficulty of 7, means that the trophy score would probably be gold. But the difficulty also impacts how easy they spot/sense the player. A Red Deer with a difficulty of say 3 will have a harder time sensing you than one with a difficulty of 9. Thus, to get rarer trophies, you're going against 'harder' easier-to-alert animals.

Red Deer are a class 6, so you'll want any ammo that covers that class. Ammo with higher penetration is generally better than higher spread.

Make sure you download your cloud save for the game if possible. Unfortunately epic and steam are kinda known for cloud save issues so if you don’t have a backup you can sync you might be SOL

Next time if you plan on uninstalling I’d recommend making a manual backup of your save files

So I’m trying to set up a G1 grind on white tail deer for the first time on Layton Lakes, and I’ve discovered about 23 water zones so far. I’m gonna explore more water areas.

I just wanted to know from more experienced G1 grinders if I possibly skipped some zones, cuz I’m a bit worried that I am missing a few water zones cuz I may have didn’t see it.

My strategy to finding them is heading out 30 minutes before drinking hours end and driving along the water for drinking tracks.

The best thing to do when finding your drinkzones is to make a private multiplayer session and run 2 times all possible drinkzone locations on the map in the last hour of their drinktime.

For some reason some zones never or rarely will show up in singleplayer. Meanwhile in multiplayer they show up fine. Thats why you make a private mulitplayer session

With the base game I would say to hunt geese on Hirsch .... using a call and some decoys you can bring them in with 50 to 80m and take them out with a shotgun ..... You may have to set up a few hunting spots so you can manage the hunting pressure .... Blinds help with this also ....

Find all your zones, then see what deer are in those zones. Depending on how the areas look and how many deers are in them, u can select your main zones (the zones u will get the great one in) and exterior zones (zones where u don’t want the great one in) after you figure out all your exterior and main zones, u shoot the small male deers in your main zone, and shoot big ones in your exterior zones. Hopefully the game will push the big deers into your main zone when they respawn.

And yes, the issue you mentioned of being quick about it is exactly why a lot of people shoot multiple at once, leave them to lay, and then exit the map like with red fox

For anything harder to snag down/that spawns in pairs, it can help to do that

I usually shoot exteriors first and then jump to an easy-to-shoot main for that reason. Tent placement is key

Is there a trick to coyotes? I’m doing this challenge at Layton lake where you have to kill a coyote in all the regions with a .270. I can’t find any at all. I’m posted up in a tree stand on a lake with the fox pro screaming coyote songs from 0100-0400 and I see or hear nothing…

Go around the lakes/rivers 2 hours into their drinking time and you'll definitely find some then
