has anyone else experienced this issue (one lake method roe deer grind on cuatro)
i was chilling for 4k kills and suddenly after a rotation NOTHING has shown up to the lake anymore, i've had 2 males show up and that's it, everything else has literally vanished

and the problem is i've done pretty much everything to try and fix this but nothing i do brings them back to the lake

What’s up, I’ve got 115 moose drink zones on medved but I’m not seeing consistent respawns. I’ve shot off a few drink zones that had solo big males and they’re not coming back so I’ve seen about 120… where might I be missing some zones? I’ve circled the top river from east to west 5 or 6 times and I’ve only got 11 zones but I know besides that I’ve got every lake discovered and the middle river

Well I was shooting everything 3 and up for a while, hit way more than 8 main and 8 exteriors… tons of solo male zones which I’m still confused about too. I have too many questions😅 but now I’m grinding 8 of each at a time and I am seeing zones with 2 males and no females, female only zones, and a couple zones with females and 3+ males

Only grind zones with 3 moose in them. Make sure all 3 are in an actual herd and not a bunch of solos

Oh and you should be grinding 10-12 main zones

Everything else that isn't a main, is an exterior. That 8 main and 8 exterior thing is BS

Okay. I did a g1 grind on askiy and shot a g1 in like 110 kills, literally my first week of playing. I’m on week 2 and now trying to go from 20 zones with like 7-12 mules to 100 moose zones with 1-2 moose, definitely a big jump. And yes lady legend said that… should I not watch her?!?!

alright i need someone to help explain herd management. i’ve watched a bunch of videos and so far i’ve gathered this. At main zones shoot down small deer 1-8 and stack level 9. right now im stacking 7 and 8 until i can get a constant source of 9, to allow big deer to respawn. At exterior zones shoot down 5-9 to allow for bigger respawns at main zones and hopefully smaller sizes in exterior. I’m grinding for red deer on Te Awaora. i’m new to herd management so any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the game! I recommend you go along with the missions as they give you a good ramp in difficulty. If you haven't already, go try out the shooting range on the Hirschfelden map to get a feel for your weapons and how they fire.

All good. I will point out for any beginner that, unlike a lot of games, COTW is one of those games that starts hard and gets easier. So try not to feel discouraged if animals are getting away or you're misplacing your shots. The charm of COTW is levelling up and mastering the experience.

I apologize if this is kind of an open ended or common question, but I hoped maybe someone could help 🙂 I am interested in this game and played it a bit in the past but like... years ago, I honestly don't really remember anything. I specifically want to try bows and crossbows, I think I only have the base game and there are a zillion DLC. Which DLC would you suggest, and should I also get a dog, since I know that bow hunting is Hard Mode since i'll need to get so close?

Personally I recommend getting the dlc maps over anything else, they allow you to hunt different species and in different areas of the world. You can get a weapon or dog dlc if you want, but they aren’t necessary to have a good time playing the game.

Tundras are not visiting that often

Greylags and canadians are landing all the time

it's entirely personal preference but the highest quality ones would be askiy or emerald coast as they offer the most diversity

Stacking Lvl 9s is good for herd management. If you’re not herd managing your Red Deer/Bears, don’t bother stacking.

I am doing HM. And currently I have 3 level 9s in my zones. Actually I had stacked up to 4, but I shot 2 of them, and a new level 9 recently spawned.

i'm grinding for my 1st g1 red deer... at first I ddnt actually follow the HM.. just set up the tent and shoot them without actually finding all their zones..

Nah you didn’t mess it up, you can HM stuff at any time. If you want to HM, just stack a bunch of 9s in your zones, shoot any stags that show up in your mains, even level 3s and 4s, and just stack about 8-10 lvl 9s before you start to HM the rest of the map.

I waited a few in game hours to make sure everything was respawned and then I killed the rest of the males from the pairs. I went from 25 males to 0 after one run

You literally just shoot the pair and the solo then hope and pray. If it helps:

1. shoot the one that’s hardest to shoot/will take the longest
2. shoot the other one
3. leave to main menu and come back, wait for respawns. Repeat as needed

The timing is why a lot of folks just shoot, leave them to lay, and hit the menu. That way all animals respawn at the same time for certain.

So you can either harvest or not but keep in mind that you’ll want to shoot them pretty quickly around the same time so they’ll be more likely to respawn all at once.

I found a really nice moose when I was going to lookout spots just to clear my man and I wasn’t able to shoot him or get his zone
I’ve been looking all over the map where drink zones could be but I’ve had no luck

animals also dont always show up to zones

a lot of people treat it as a bug or think zone times are hardline brackets for when animals show up but they arent

they can be early or later and sometimes not show up at all and zone times are basically just a guideline for when ish they tend to be there

All of your main shooters should be as big as you can get them. Stacking is usually done for making HM better though, so if you’re not interested in that it won’t totally be necessary

3. stack max weight estimates in your best zones (as in like best visibility and ease of harvesting)
4. shoot down exteriors (all your other less good zones + solos)

and then your respawns should be big

Then go to the main lake and check the zone markers if there are any solos if there are and some of them are females try to figure out which one, if you can't then Just shoot every female and Pick up only the solo female(s), then shoot every other roe deer to get your respawns

Check again if you have any solo females and repeat this until you have no solo females at the main lake then Just shoot as many solo males as you can to hopefully fill up the lake, if you have only solo males and pairs on the main lake watch a video on how to swap pairs with solos

So I had 11 lvl 9's stacked. After receiving the groups advice, I went and shot them all. On my next rotation, a GO spawned on a zone that had 14 deer on it. Maybe coincidence, who knows. FINALLY!!!

That’s about right. You could have 35 zones but some are solos, is the thing. They’d eventually bounce out and make you have a count closer to 40-45. That being said, all you have to do is keep checking all the spots they can be

Check em a view times and make sure you don’t find anything else, then you should have them all

You just shoot both the pair and the solo. Timing is key, you want to harvest them quickly. Can make it easier on yourself by shooting and leaving them to lay then closing to menu

So shoot the pair, shoot the solo, and then restart your game

As far as what you “need” to do, the only real requirement is you have to harvest/claim males from the species you’re going for
Every harvested male kill has a chance to respawn as a great one. Only exceptions are roe deer and red fox, where you need to shoot both animals in a pair for respawns

Rares will just occur, though. You can kill anything and you don’t even need to claim it. It’s all random

And if you repeat that process you will end up with like 90% low level and 10% higher ish level.

Then you can rotate on this 10% and it increase the diamond spawnrate. Which also give you a higher chance on a super rare. And not proven also on g1s

Normaly you have for most species around a 1 in 100 max level spawn. But you can increase it to 1 in 5 if you want. Its very difficult though. Most people are around 1/15 to 1/30

You search for every drinking zone during a certain animals drinking time, set up tents at those areas (around water and 300m away). You can also use tripods or tree mounts to see better but it's not necessary.

And then just kill off what's there, and move on to the next one. usually that leads to a diamond eventually.
