It’s an okay loadout. While yes it’s completely great weight wise it leacks any real power to make it a “good” loadout. While the 7mm can take moose and bison it’s not particularly good at it. I think when trying to suggest what dlc and weapons is best for a specific goal the aim should be the power of the weapons not the amount they weigh

There most likely are people with good setups, but for their own maps. All maps are different and my spawns could be in different places than yours. One trick I have seen popping around is to acquire the Keen Eye skill, it allows you to tag zones from lookout towers. Perhaps getting that skill could help narrow down potential zones

Fallow is incredibly easy, especially if you do it on Te Awaroa. There’s a much smaller population compared to other maps there.

can someone explain to me exactly how herd management works or point out a document that does.

I picked out my shooting and exterior herds. For the first step, I am meant to solely shoot mid tier animals from exterior herds until they respawn as low tier, but what do I do with high tier animals from these herds, do I save them for now until all the others are low level?

And do I just not touch the shooting herds until after ive dealt with the exterior herds?

4080 SUPER here and working really well (165Hz, 2560x1440), 300+ fps on light/normal maps, and still 200+ usually even on heavier maps. The game's rendering is actually pretty efficient and pushes dx11 to what it can manage.

Check the pinned comments and you'll see a Map Field Guide. In that guide is data on all the species in the game, with fur types, max weight and diamond requirements. I think you'll need to copy it to your own drive to be able to see all the species, but regardless I use this thing daily.

Is your new graphics card nvidia? If so you might try going into the nvidia settings and turning off smooth motion for Cotw. It could be the source of the flickering.

Any recommendations for good videos regarding herd management and setting up for a grind? I've watched a few and they just throw around terminology without explanation.

from what I've gathered you find all drinking zones on a map, if you kill a male in a herd zone and it respawns you've succeeded
Then go around your less preferred zones and take all the large ones until small 3s and lower are left
After that go to your targeted zones and start taking down all your larger scoring deer like 4s and 5s (higher level 3s if you run out)
Every 2 rounds or so check in on your low lvl herds and solo zones to make sure there's no big racks there and to help clear hunting pressure from your main spots
Keep up on that and I THINK that's how it works lol

You should check out the hunter companion app on your phone, it will tell you all you need to know including what animals are doing at that certain time, and also all the ratings for diamonds, and visualized photos of the different fur types and rarity.

No problem with that whatsover, but just know the tool that tells you what animals are doing gets super useful and easier when you're trying to hunt a certain thing, especially near water. At some points in time there are no animals that drink, and it might be hard to locate them. It also helps knowing how much time you have to get closer before they leave. You set the clock and it shows all animals, what theyre doing. Once you spot an animal, you can click that one easily to see its specs

I'm not the most experienced in in-game sights, but I haven't heard of that existing yet for rifles. There's a rangefinder sight for the bow, but that's all I've heard of so far.

once you unlock spotting with sight perk you can spot the animal and see distance range, the animal will usually be middle of the range, so if it says like 180m-220m the animal will be @200m

Ya can get a bunch of xp if ya go out and pop a bunch of geese, croc/gator, bison, etc !!
You can also functionally shoot anything but those are slower targets/tend to move in groups. More kills = more xp gain

If you only have the base game maps you might setup a little decoy situation for some geese to help with that :)
