Me i don't use it that way, i use it to attract multiple zones, it has 400m range, let say i have 3 drink zones near a lake and i know the path they take to get there, i place a feeder in a way that it covers those 3 zones, i live it there all the time and they keep coming back i just reload them at distance.

Place a blind about 25m - 50m of a post feeder, be there at there feed hour, crouch and use a scent camouflage you can also use a caller 😉 Works wonders with black tail.

hi all. brand new player to cotw and finding myself struggling a bit (compared to cotw the angeler). When you track an animal, how long should this last? i found myself following a blacktail from one side of Layton Lake to the other yet could not locate the animal. whilst tracking, would always find fresh poop so assumed it was close...always making sure the wind isn't blowing in the direction of the target
not sure if i'm just too slow at closing in or just generally suck at the same. hoping to find a complete idiots guide or something

You can definitely follow a deer for a long time as they'll sprint off, slow, then take off again if you get close enough and respook them. You'll have to monitor the wind direction and how much sound you make (running and brush are very loud) once you get closer to them as they factor in quite a bit. They can spook out to like 250 yards depending on the situation

They also are a species that travels quite a bit outside of their "need zone" times which are areas they'll go to between certain hours and stay for a bit

It’s more about making more low level animals, actually. That’s how you get the big ones to spawn.

The reason someone would keep big 4/5s like that is to stack, which would help push any other mid levels you shoot down to smaller ones. Which, in turn, will leave you with bigger respawns once you go back to shooting all the big animals.

If you want to HM casually your best course of action would be to shoot any mid levels and up, really. That’s about it

If you have zones you dislike shooting, shoot all the bigguns out of there and replace em with smaller ones. That way you can keep zones you like full of big animals.

what i recommend is to lookup a hotspot map online for the map you’re hunting & on the hotspot maps you’ll be able to see all the outpost, then get on a 4wheeler (assuming you have one)

Let’s you set your weapon to 1 of 3 distances which are basically close medium and far

For rifles it’s usually 75m, 150m, and 300m

Or pistol it’s usually 25m, 50m, and 75m same with shotgun

Best way to see is with the bow.
First image i'm locking on the tree at zeroing 20m and i place myself physically at 20m, i'm dead on, next image i'm this time standing at 40m but left my zeroing point to 20m, the green dot then becomes the new target.
You'll only have access to the 2 first zero points, the third one you have to activate the skill.

Esc/Codex/Fauna, in there you have all the animals, after that you have ton match the class of the bullets to match the class of animals your hunting.

As a complete new player, you have to unlock many items with rifle/shootgun/pistol points. So it may takes some time to get them. You are starting with the.243, a good weapon for class 2-6 and free ammunition. First money should go into the ammo with higher penetration. You have a fee .270 (class 4-8) in your storage. Also you can get the free Sundberg pistol. The only weapon you have for class 9 for a while, claim it. They first higher amount of cash you should use for the 4-8 rifle scope, this will be a game changer during the hunt.

To a new player i always say to do at least the two first maps, Hirshfelden and Layton Lake, do the missions, the story line will make you use different weapons and accessories, gain money, level up your character and learn the games mechanics, the two first maps should take you around 2 mouths to do, you should reach level 60 and all your perks and skills unlock.
Of course, if you buy DLCs, it's much, much simpler and easier.

But i'm mainly a bow hunter.

I rarely use the crossbow, i don't like the 1 - 3 or 5 pin sight.
The scope Hawken 1-5x30 for crossbow is in Weapon Pack 1, it has a 3 pin sight with 20m - 40m - 60m zeroing so no point for me to use it, my bow has The BrightSight with telemeter, more precise.

Throwing in my personal fav: Mississippi. Just know it’s overly hated for no reason, being like the only swamp map in game. Regarding talents and skills, it's preferable to choose what type of hunting you want to do (Rifle, shotgun, handgun, archery), as you will place your talent and skill points based on that type of hunting. If you want to change later, it is possible, but it costs in-game money.

My rifle loadout is the 22 (1), 243 (2-4), 270 (4-6), and 300 (7-9). Both the 243 and 270 have larger ranges than that but I've found that to be their most effective class range so that's how I use them

I’m having trouble finding the radioactive wild boars. I saw one and missed the shot, but since then, I’ve walked all over the highlighted area multiple times and haven’t seen any more. I know most of you have been doing this for a long time so this is for us newbies. I have used the box feeder at herscgfelden (in the farm fields) and te awaroa. Is set up 8 of them. For awaroa I set up close by o drinking zones. For herschfelden I would look for places in the fields close to water and feeding zones. I had to adjust a couple spots to what I liked. I have under 400 hours and over two weekends I have gotten two fabled Fallow (one at each reserve) I use the pellets in the box

At hirschfelden the red go to the box to so u can start at tgeir feeding time and work them. I have gotten several diamonds. At awaroa I am now doing the red deer and set up close to drinking zones and doing the rounds for most of each hunting day.

If you set a new loadout at the store, make sure to open your inventory outside of the store to put everything on your wheel. If you save the loadout in the store after that it should always default to that organization for that loadout

Yes it’s a bit finicky to learn at first but like informality said: you have to buy the weapons, take them out of storage to put them in your inventory, then put them in your weapon wheel

I’m stuck on my last story quest on Hirschfelden and could really use your advice. It’s the “Fleischer – Don’t Ruin the Goods” mission in Müllerwald, where you have to harvest a red deer with a gold score or higher, using a .270 rifle and hitting the heart.
Have any of you completed this one recently? What’s the quickest way to get a gold red deer and land that heart shot with the .270? Any tips on where to find high-scoring deer, good zones to check, or how to make sure the shot counts? I’d really appreciate any pointers – just want to wrap up this story mission!

I prefer to lie down on a slope or a rock even a tree trunk on the floor can do the trick some times. That elevates me above the vegetation, and when lying down, I am very stable. In a ground blind, you have to stand up to shoot, and in a treestand, you shoot from above, which makes it harder to hit the heart. I think to make a gold it has to be level 6-(Very Hard)

A lot of people say that crocs/alligators pay well and are easy to hunt. You just walk along the coast; there's no need for a tripod. Go to the Emerald Coast (Saltwater Crocodiles) and Mississippi Acres Preserve (American Alligators) reserves.

I would place myself under the tree, to your left, watch the wind direction, i don't see it, use a scent camouflage. Just wait and call them. It take about an hour for them to get there so around 07:00.

The area is probably too high in alert/pressure. It's preferable to go further away. A feeder pole with pallets should work wonders.

The feeders attract all kinds of animals, you have to be there at there feeding hour of that specific animal.
Place the tent at least 250m from the feeder.

If money is your goal, emerald coast, right coast of the map, people are gonna say go for the crocodiles, they aren't wrong they'll make you money, but the bantengs are very stupid, if you head south to north and spook em, they'll eventually cross two lil ponds, on the second one, they'll all get stuck trying to climb up this difficult path for them, just unload everything you got at em, you'll easily net like 20k in 15 minutes, THEN I head WAY north to kill some crocodiles while the giant dead zone I created cools down, repeat

Bantengs are allergic to staying alive, they run for their lives at about the speed of a wasted toddler, and their pathfinding is only slightly better, they get stuck on trees, walls, even on eachother lol

Yes, because with 8 spot rotation the respawn times are good. If you go too fast through the spots you may have to sit because you will see them come in. I have watched the legendaries walk in a couple times so when I get to the tripod or blind I usually scan the area well

If the feeder is put close to drinking zones you can set up your tripod or blind and get them at both times feeding and drinking. That is exactly what I have been doing. The diamonds show up when they show up. It takes a while to get lt them to show but they will. Last night I worked on my Layton lake post feeder with oat flakes. I set them up within 30 yards of white tail drink zones.

I am hunting thru feed and drink times at the same 8 spots. I am getting a lot of golds now so a diamond should be coming along

That is the different times for feeding and drinking for white tail and I hunt those times at the same spots

The way I set up is: place feeder where I believe is an optimal location, place kill pick up tent 30 to 50 yards away from feeder, place the spawn in tent to shoot/hunt 254 yards away from feeder, place tripod/blind 150 to 175 yards from feeder. You can place them closer but u start doing a lot of crouch walking

When I setup my 8 spots usually 5 to 6 are really good, two to three spots I have to tweak or pick up and find new spots. But once your tuned in it’s nice

I am not sure what you are asking. I don’t reset I go around the rotation and keep repeating I shoot one of the largest and move to the next spot. I only move one minute ahead if I miss the shot. Or when a feeding or drinking time ends and if it a rest time then I move time forward to the next drinking or feed time. Just Setting time ahead won’t get a diamond to appear

So you can use the 300 mag and not chase the deer as far on a missed shot. But only do that on non diamond/Great ones. If you do that on those you will screw them up diamonds will become golds
