So im trying to set up a Yukon moose grind. I've got several questions;

In the guide, ladylegend seems to set up main zone tents next to a larger 4-5 moose zone, but I've been throughout discovering my drink zones, setting up my tents as to have the furthest reach possible. Trying to be strategically be around 250m from like 2 3 4 5 zones away at the same time. As many as can logistically be done really.

Is that just a waste of time then? Should I just use a singular main zone and not try to hedge so bad, and just fast travel between them?

1. Basically you map out all drink zones, and then select the ones who have lots of game and zones close to each other as main zones and set up the tents.

Now the question here is when do I start shooting in these zones, and what animals. Do I start shooting the small ones in these zones and hope they spawn into bigger ones as to start stacking.

2. When main zones start spawning bigger animals I go to all outer zones and start shooting the bigger animals because the game will cause smaller respawns. We already know the respawns will be small so there is no need to rediscover the shot down zones?

3. When all the usable animals from the outer zones are show down, pick up the tents and such and just use them as pickup tents and such on the stacked main zones?

Please someone help and ap apologies if it's too many questions or text.

I am not a strong grinder, I get bored way too easy and distracted.. So I am only going to answer the first one, as questions 2 and 3 are beyond what I personally have practiced.

1. Personally I went to all my drink zones, wrote down level and gender of every animal per zone

• 1x L1
• 2x L3 etc etc

• What you shoot depends on your animals, for instance I was shooting mule deer when I mapped out my zones
  • I shot the fatty L2s (the ones with weight like a L3) and up
  • So, THICC L2s, L3s, L4s and L5s

Like the big lake prob has over 15 moose. It can still be main. You need to look at 1 drinking zone at a time so if its 1 male and 2 female. And beside there like 5 female. Its still fine as long as the 1 male 2 female zone is seperate

Step 1.) Find ALL your zones

The 1st step in any grind is to find all your zones for that species (now when I say all zones, I don't mean all drink, feed, and rest zones, I just mean drink zones. For animals who do not drink, only having all the zones for one particular zone time is enough, you don't need to find all the zones on all zone times ever). This is because having all zones will make your respawns consistent, while there isn't an exact reason as to why this happens, I, alongside a lot of ppl think that it's the game's way to force you to explore the map, so any zones that aren't found will receive respawns, instead of the zones you are grinding.

Step 2.) Picking the correct zones:

Picking the correct zones differs from one species to another, this will be specifically about Moose, since their zones are different from other species (in terms of animals in 1 zone). There are only a few amount of zone types for Moose, these being:

1 Female, 0 Males (solo)
0 Females, 1 Male (solo)
2 Females, 1 Male
2 Females, 2 Males
3 Females, 2 Males
1 Female, 1 Males
1 Female, 2 Males
1 Female, 3 Males
(A lot of males in 1 spot with no females is a zone with all solo animals, same goes for Females).

In cotw, there is a rule when it comes to respawns, this rule states that a zone can never recieve respawns again, if the zone is shot down to 1 animal. This means that if there is a zone with 1 Female and 1 Male, and I shoot 1 of them, the zone will never get respawns again, and that one animal will essentially be a solo animal.

There may be times where you may see a lot of Moose in 1 zone, for example: 4 Males and 6 Females. That zone is made up of multiple different herds, and potentially solos. These zones are not great for setting up, as you may unknowingly shoot a zone down to 1 animal, causing it to never get respawns again.

With all this information, the best zones to set up on are:
2 Males, 2 Females
1 Male, 2 Females

Max character limit, more to come.

Now while they are both great, the 1 Male, 2 Females zone is better in end, as it is more consistent with its respawns. Sometimes, the 2 Male, 2 Females zones can "break", causing it to lose 1 of its males, and sometimes both of them.

3.) Setting up on zones:

Ideally, you should set up on at least 8 zones, however, setting up on more is ok. For Moose in particular, I'd say setting up on 10 - 12 zones might actually be better than 8, as not only will you be more) shooting more Moose, but you'll be spending a little bit more time on each run, which ia great to go against the respawn timer. In these zones, you will be setting up in the following way:

Place a tent at least 230 metres (252 yards) away from the zone, to ensure that the animals won't flee when you go to the tent.

A pick-up tent. This tent will be put on top of the zone itself, to save you time from walking/using an atv to the zone. (If set up on more than 8 zones, a pick-up tent can't be used on every zone, due to the 16 tent limit on each zone.

4.) Gun selection: The Best guns to use when going for Moose are: .375, Arzyna .300, Canning .300, .338 Bolt, and the 7mm bolt (from best to worst, all are good).

All of those are paid dlc, if you do not own them, then the single shot 7mm, and the single shot .338 will also work, however, you'll probably need to set up on only 1 Male herds to make it easier for you.

Now I have an explanation on herd managment, ik you don't want to use herd managment, but this is here for whoever would like to

HM grind: This one is complicated to explain, first you're gonna use all 16 tents on 16 different zones, 8 zones you want as main zones and 8 you want as exteriors. Now you're gonna wanna shoot all the deer at all 16 zones like normal (For now you want have pickup tents)the difference is that this time you're gonna stack the diamonds in your main zones(Stacking meaning to leave them alive), while you're doing this you're also going to be leaving the animal you're targeting in your exteriors zones to the level below, depending on its max level

Max level 3 = Shoot down to level 1
Max level 5 = Shoot down to level 2 or 1
Max level 9 = Shoot down to 4 and under.

You need to repeat this process until all of the deer at the exterior zones are at the level/s I mentioned above.

Once you get an exterior zone to low levels, pick that tent up and move it to another exterior zone, repeat this process until all your exteriors are shot down to low level animals. After you do this, you can shoot all the stacked diamonds in your main zones. When you run out of exteriors to set up on, you can now start using those tents and start using them as pick up tents.

First you need to discover every drink zone. Since when they arent discovered the moose can respawn which is bad. After that you can choose to stack diamonds on main or wait like i did. Then just hunt all drink zones. So basicly just play the game normal. Remember to place tent and make sure exterior is only lvl1 and 2. Can be 3 if its a bad lvl 3. Then while you play you will find some good zones with like 1 male or 2 females. If you find that use that as a main. Remember moose grind is a very diffrent grind from the rest. And takes alot of time. This isnt the easist prob one of the harder and annoying

each animal has a different score it needs to make to be diamond, you can find out all the information on the animals harvest screen, also for horned/antlered animals you can look at the truscore stats to see how each animal is scored, you also have to pass the harvest check by using correct ammo, not hitting a trophy organ, hitting a vital organ and no more than 2 shots.
