Ive started to shoot down exterior zones, when i remembered hearing that im supposed to rotate through all my main zones and exteriors, now i only did one rotation on just a few extrerior zones, i got pretty lucky and a lot of my exteriors are already shot down for me. But what am i supposed to be doing with my main zones while im shooting down my exteriors?

HM question: 99% I have my map set up correctly and HM done for Mule deer. Over time, my level 3s and 4s in my main shooting zones occasionally respawn as 2s. I revisit my exterior zones and they’re all shot down still. Do I have a HM problem or is this normal? Can I shoot the 2s in my main zones?

If you're talking about g1 species, only males can respawn as g1s, however Fox require you to shoot both the male and female when it comes to getting respawns. Other species require just the male

General rule here
Almost every animal in the game requires you to kill 1 animal for 1 respawn

Certain species which are found in packs of 2 (Like Fox, and I think Brown and Grizzly Bear) require you to kill the full pack for your respawns. This means that if you have a group of 2 Fox, male and female, and you shoot the male, the male will never respawn until its partner is also shot

Then you have waterfowl species like Ducks and Geese, these ones require you to kill the full flock for respawns. This means that if you have a flock of 8 Mallards for example, and you only shot 7 of them, those 7 won't respawn until you shot the 8th one, in which then they will all respawn in a flock again (Upland birds not included)

For animals that have their zones dissappear like Fox and Bear yes, but for something like a Moose no, as herd animals always respawn in an existing herd (unless you wipe out the zone), the only exception to this are solos, as unless they spawn in the same zone as a herd/another solo, they'll always form a new zone

Geese are a solid option but if you don't enjoy it that much or struggle with it I would suggest hunting crocs on the Eastern beach on Emerald Coast 🙂

I've setup like a kind of starter mini grind on fallow deer to do every now and then but for some reason the bucks just keep thinning in numbers to the point where there's only 1 in some spots. Have I ruined my grind or do those spots just have less bucks now?

Back up the save yourself for sure. If you have a usb stick use that, then look up how to save the files to it. You will be able to replace your new save with the backup on the new pc
I’m pretty sure you can drag and drop the entire save file but check Google for more info

Never trust the cloud lol

You should regularly back up your save file outside of the cloud, by the way- preferably weekly or whenever you get something you don’t want to lose.
