I would say get Silver Ridge Peaks, has Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, Turkey, Bighorn, and Mountain Goat. Large vast plains in the bottom of the map where you’ll be able to spot animals from far away. The north is more mountainous but is still easy to hunt.

The map also has other animals than those but those are the main animals that are on that map specifically.

If you want to make money fast, I’d recommend emerald coast, go to the swamps along the shoreline and shoot any lvl 6+ crocs you see and you’ll make a bunch

I’ve also found that emerald coast spawns way more higher level animals than any other map I’ve been on cos I’ve seen like 5 lvl 8 crocs, two lvl 8 kangaroos and one lvl 9 kangaroo

I also got my first gold rare on emerald coast, beautiful gold piebald croc

do you have any good methods for the waterfowl/bird like ptarmigan? my plan was going to be to set up a bunch of decoys and just periodically shoot whatever males come in. im not sure if this could lead to a diamond or if id have to rotate to multiple zones because i might "run out" of males to shoot in a singular spot

waterfowl you go for a decoy setup and spot everything to find the highest rating, then kill the highest every time til you get a diamond. Rotate multiple zones when the hunting pressure gets hot

Tents is a deployed mobile base which spook all animals in about 200m around.
It allow you to change equipment and fast travel to it.
Each tent cost you 16k, you can deploy around 15 tent (need to clarify this info) on each reserve, but you start with 4 tents free (different colours).
If you are doing quests it's not so useful, but if you going to farm herd management or Great Ones - it's a game changer.
So In general strongly depends from your play style.
Personally for me I never use tents.

Actually the only map where predators atack are pretty constant is Sandarpatan.
Specific for this map I trained separate bloodhound dog (with proper perks) against predators.
On other maps you are pretty safe even without dog.

Ok so Herd Management is a way to 'game' the engine into spawning a few very high rank animals

Most importantly, it is a way of playing, and not always fun for everyone

The basic theory is that the game tries to maintain an 'average' score for the males of any animal type. If you deliberately remove the high ranking animals and keep the very low animals, this makes the average score go down, so the game tries to spawn higher animals.

This involves 'shooting down' all but a very very few animals of that kind on an entire map. It takes time, tents, grind, effort etc before any pay off

To explain hm in a very simple way

Get diamonds in your main zones and keep them alive to make the process faster (Stacking)

After that, shoot all exterior zones down to low levels (If animal goes up to lvl 3, keep lvl 1s and very small lvl 2s in exteriors, up to level 5 keep very small level 3s and below in exteriors, and if up to lvl 9 keep lvl 4s and smaller in exteriors)

When that is done, shoot your main zones like normal

This is (supposed to be) a better explanation of hm, I apologise for the wall of text in advance lol

You're gonna wanna set up on a few zones, atleast 8,in these zones you are gonna want them to include 2 males and 2 females. Once you have set up on all of these zones, it's time to start shooting them. You need to shoot all your zones repeatedly until the majority of males (I'd say atleast around 90% of males) are diamonds.

When you have done this, it's time to go around the rest of the zones on the map (These are exterior zones). Your goal is to shoot all the males that are apart of your exterior zones (including solos) to either level 1, 2 or small level 3s (Small level 3s normally look like certain level 2s)

After you have all the Moose in your exteriors as small level 3s and below, you are done herd managing your map, now it's time to shoot your main zones and grind like normal, now you should start spawning bigger males more consistently in your main zones, and hopefully that great one.

What is a must have is subjective in this game, what I like may not be something you like, but imo most maps are great, I'd say that if possible you play the maps on multiplayer and start seeing which ones you like/dislike. If you can't then I'd suggest Silver Ridge Peaks, Vurhonga, Te Awaroa, and Emerald Coast, they're pretty beginner friendly maps and imo the most fun

Also imo buying weapon packs as a beginner ruins a bit of the fun of starting out and slowly unlocking gear, however if you don't mind that, I'd say the Modern Rifles Pack and the pack that has the 300. AR (I forgot the name lol) are amazing and are your best choice
