I started setting up for the red fox great one grind by looking for all the drinking zones before shooting anything. Once I found all the zones I went back to some of the lakes that had good zones but the map said there were no red fox drink zones there. However I did look around the lake and spotted some red fox and it pinged new drinking zones and the group size and levels were completely different to what was there before. I never shot a single animal from when I started looking for zones, anyone have any idea why my zones changed?

But beyond that, CotW does not track your kills

Best advice I can give starting out is anytime you see Zone tracks, make sure to investigate them so they will pop up in the map. It will give you information regarding what species will be there and at what time. Easiest zones to find are typically drink zones. Also, try to avoid sprinting everywhere, you’ll end up spooking everything before you ever even see it. But best place to find animals most of the time are around sources of water. Have patience and be aware of your surroundings, there are usually animals closer than you realize and you might not even know it, so scanning with binoculars every once in a while is a good way to find animals as well. One of the easier maps for beginners in my opinion is Silver Ridge Peaks, so if you can find a multiplayer server there or if you don’t mind spending a few bucks, I would definitely invest in that. Has a ton of open areas and plenty of animals everywhere. Best of luck!

Another thing I will say I remember when I first started playing is sitting and waiting on the edge of a random field without knowing where the zones are is going to be a headache and test your patience, don’t be afraid to move around. When I first started playing i remember building like every stand and blind I’d come across and I would sit and wait thinking something would randomly show up, and that can definitely happen, but it’s much more effective walking around and glassing with binoculars, and listening for calls and then going from there. Just focus on exploring the map finding zones and you’ll find a LOT more animals that way.

Not bragging, I have a question, for maybe some more experienced than myself, so I have been trying to finish the Vualez #7 mission, and I cannot even call in this freaking level 2 female coyote, that I spotted in a feed zone just outside of the zone I need to harvest them in. WTF?! And there is no hunting pressure in the area.

Use that .243 that you start with, just land good shot placement, that’s what’s important. And then soon you’ll unlock polymer tips. That’ll smoke foxes all the way up to whitetail with a double lung. It will take down blacktail deer and even up to Roosevelt elk, I believe they are a 6, however they’ll run forever, especially with the soft points you’ve got now.
