Is there a specific place I should aim for with the gun I'm using, because it seems like it has lower penetration that the stock rifle, so most of the time when I shoot for the areas behind the front shoulders, I get flesh wounds and have to track them forever waiting for them to drop

The zeroing perk basically determines your bullet drop distance. Normally range for most rifles is 150 meters but with zeroing, you can set it to half or double, so 75 meters or 300 meters. That way you don't have to make extreme calculations and aim way above the animal because it's out of the regular zone.

So a longer explanation than I gave before;

This game has bullet drop, meaning the bullets don't just fly infinitely, they arch and fall down due to gravity. The set distance for this bullet drop is shown in the game by looking at your bullet's range. Most rifles go 150 meters, handguns go 50 meters and shotguns go 25-50 meters. Arrows 20-30 meters.

So what does the zeroing perk do?

It allows you to either half or double this distance, allowing you to shoot things closer up or further away. You can technically still shoot beyond this distance, but you'll have to manually calculate the distance and lift your shot slightly depending on how far you'll need to go.

Yo fellow hunters, i got a question. I play on the ps4 and mainly use the rifles. I shot a moose today and he was 130m/142 yards away. I was zerod for 150 i and I shot nearly in the middle of the lung but it hit the top of the spine. Is it a bug or something i don’t really understand.

I hit many of my shots but sometimes it’s nearly random we’re it hits. I always check my zeroing before I shoot something if I’m not getting attacks by something

But to actually give you an answer leaving one alive means the doe becomes a solo and the rest respawn as their own herd, so the zone is broken into two even if they all still follow each other around and drink in the same spot.

Basically the respawns stagger and, since there's no longer a herd reabsorb them, they just form their own herd separate from the survivor.

As far as respawns go I'm unsure how affected everything was by the patch. The 30min IRL respawn timer is only supposed to be for tigers and it seems most animals still respawn upon time changes from resting (except for WT, they seem a bit bugged atm).

Assuming it still works the same way this is basically the crash course:

The game tries to maintain an average overall population score for any given species. For antlered species this only applies to males (with the exception of caribou/reindeer for obvious reasons). You can effectively game the system by leaving lower levels and shooting higher ones until they all congregate at gold scoring levels or higher (diamond stacking). An example of this would be moose or fallow deer, which both max at level 5. For your herd management with such species you shoot males lvl 3, 4, and 5 while leaving lvls 1 and 2.

This is slightly modified for animals that max at lvl 9, as you shoot levels 5 thru 9 while leaving lvls 1 thru 4.

This same system also applies to the bears despite them not being antlered, so it seems the score arvg by species is divided by male/female (I have to put it this way because this server censored the S word) in the event that the species can have both males and females actually posses a trophy score (as opposed to most deer, which have no score for females due to them lacking the sought trophy element in the form of antlers).

Lone males also do respawn as solos external to their herds when you kill them

as in

if you have 6 deer

and 1 is a buck

and you shoot him

then they'll still drink nearish to each other

but itll be a 5 doe herd

and then a lone/solo buck further along the water source

seen it plenty of times with my fallow grind

(and those solos are annoying because they bounce around between potential zone spots, have to trek out and kill them every once in a while)

Most of us don't really fully understand the why other than levels of respawns seem to have an RNG factor

like if you kill a lvl 2 WT

there's a chance it could respawn as a 1, 2, or 3

and it varies depending on score

and overall average of the species

like if you kill a decent silver lvl 2 buck

and your map has a LOT of golds stacked

he may respawn as a very small 2 or a 1

on the contrary

if you have a lot of lvl 1s already

and small 2s

and you kill a decent 2

the game will go

"Oh wait the score average for whitetail bucks is too low"

and then it and every other buck you've shot

gets respawned with a higher score

loop that enough

you get stacks of like

20 diamons on the reserve

at once

takes like 2000 or more kills

but it happens eventually

there's one pair of zones that I have on the New Zealand reserve Te Awaora

where most folks maybe have

4 or 5 stags between them at best

maybe 13 deer total counting the hinds

mine has 47

with 14 stags

Game does a pretty poor job of telling this but if you look at the ammo in the store it’ll show a class level, this correlates with different class of animals. Ducks are class 1 so you’d use the small game arrows or birdshot or small caliber bullets

Also the polymer tip ammo has more penetration, the more pen. is better for bigger game

We have about 2-5 Rare fur types and or Diamonds, and you can tell it’s a diamond off of the trophy rating for example a bear is 22.80 so say the range is 23-24 that’s a guaranteed diamond animal

yes, the red/purple stuff is hunting pressure, you can shoot a max of 3 animals when not in a hunting stand, and the 4th deletes the zone

iirc from a stand the numbers are 15/16

im not sure if the blinds from the same dlc as the tent has the same effect, you can test and see tho

they might have that effect

In settings you can turn caller volume off so you don’t have to listen to it. I turned it off cause I use the auto caller and it works for all callers.

That I don’t know it really just depends. I’ve had some slightly out of range by like 20 yards or so come into the call and be attracted by it and sometimes they wouldn’t so I think it depends on the animal

I believe it’s like how bullets have their most effective range and then get weaker past that range I believe the same goes for calls they may have a slightly lager calling distance but it gets less effective the further away from the distance it says for the caller but I might be wrong
