whenever i shoot a moose, it takes me forever to track it and sometimes i dont even kill it, even if i shoot it perfectly, how come?

Why since either the emerald coast or new england mountains update, can't remember which one now, do bushes not hide me anymore? My hunting method would be to hide in a bush at a need zone and wait for animals to come to me or call them in but now it's dang near impossible to hide in foliage anymore and they see me and flee!!!!!!!!!

It's how you shoot it, and maybe your weapon choice. It sounds like you are new so it could also be that your character is not very good at tracking yet. You can kill a moose with the .22 if you hit it right. Any vital shot will down it, even if you have to track quite a distance before finding it. For starters take broadside lung shots at <100m.

Every animal in the game has a class, and you are supposed to match the rifle and ammo to the animal's class. Moose are class 8 so you might have tried the .270 which is technically legal, but the soft point ammo won't perform much better than the .22. I suggest the 7mm magnum or .338 as base game weapons for moose.

you can get tons of dimes assuming the species you're hunting is managed down

can also be vice versa

if your respawns are mainly low levels you may have a couple high levels or dimes somewhere

but initial spawns are mainly a mix of both

i would do hm, if you want alot diamonds and high scoring rares.
Just get every zone and stack some lvl 3 that you get almost on every spot only lvl 1 males

then grind 6-8 spots

Which gun do you prefer for red deer? I'm currently using the .243 but I find that I have to track quite far. I see people recommending the .303 online, is this still current?

Red deer are class 6, and you're right the .243 is not quite enough for them. Most of the time you don't want to shoot a gun at an animal in its highest class. The .303 still works on red deer, but most people use the Zarza .308. Some people even use the .300 on them because it's a faster, surer kill and only take their diamonds/great ones/rares with a weapon that passes the harvest check.

in general the rifles that cover classes 4-8 will be good for red deer

I managed to down 4 out of a herd with a heartshot before the herd stopped appearing. I went to another zone to try a different herd. Went to bed, woke up this morning, launched the game, the "old herd" was back, but apparently it's a new herd since I downed one reindeer with a heartshot and it didn't trigger the achievement.

without affecting graphics too much

global illumination is pretty rough on frames so id test that first

the setting you always want on Ultra is Scene Complexity, as its tied to render distance

I think I remember someone saying it’s based on weight. So a lvl 8 on the low end of max weight esti could respawn as something at a lower level in the weight esti below max or it could respawn as something else max weight

This is how I remember it working too, i tested it when i grinded red deers and it seemed to hold true

My g1 spawned from a lvl 6 that scored right at the bottom of max weight range. So I believe g1s are tied to dimes in some way, as that probably would’ve gotten spawned as a dime but got rolled into a G1. Right now I’m going with Mel’s beliefs on G1 spawns she stated in the first sundar stream her and flinter did. When an animal respawns it gets rolled into something else, if it gets rolled into a dime it gets rolled again to see if it’s gonna be a G1. Her explanation is better than mine. I can try and find the time stamp if needed

There’s really no wrong way to grind as long as you’re killing stuff. Hm isn’t the only grind method it just produces more dimes and possibly a higher chance of a G1 but takes a long time to set up and you could get a G1 by just killing all males before you would have Hm set up. It’s all random and ultimately it’s up to you how to grind

I would certainly use the .300 Canning since it's great on moose and it's the Yukon gun. You can find moose drinking on basically every water source on the map, but I find the inland areas better and easier to hunt than the river.

yes. each animal has a range of ratings up to their maximum, and usually only the top level animal makes diamond. for moose that's level 5 Medium, but moose are known to sometimes make diamond at level 4 easy also. other level 4s will make golds, and level 3 will be gold or silver. Other animals have similar breakdowns. Also the higher the animal's level the more perceptive and aware it is.

Thanks. I typically use the Arzyna .300 Mag Tac because of it's high accuracy and carry a Grelck Drilling Rifle because of it's adaptability, being able to carry 9.3x74R. But i'll see if the canning works out. Just now found some spots in the Crimson Plains that are open enough. Might lay down a blind or something to decrease hunting pressure.

I had the same problem bro

this means you have some high level tigers on ur map

check all tiger spots. you may have a lvl 9 or some 8s on ur map

thats why you only get 6s and 7s to spawn

You can look around all the marked areas and find zones. Not everyones map will be a 1:1 - but this is where they have been seen on others maps often enough that it is accepted as their "areas"

The green cone is the way the wind is blowing. If the cone faces away from you - then the wind is blowing ahead of you, if the cone is "behind" you, the wind is blowing past you

Put on scent eliminator if animals are downwind. If you hear a warning call instantly crouch before the animal runs they go alert before fleeing. Hunt water as most animals drink but at diff times of day. Get the skills that reduce your visibility and movement noise. Shot animals with ethical weapons, hit vital organs and don't shoot them more than twice

You can run if you want but more animals will run, hit the grass when you get warning calls

Go slow and low when approaching animals

Call animals in with a caller

Get zeroing perk

Since your this late into hm I’d focus on shooting solo’s down first cause you have a lot of 9’s. After they’re shot down you can focus on shooting the rest down

Now you can go through and make sure you have atleast 2 shooters in each main zone and the rest are shot down. (Typically most people have 8 main zones since you can run 8 shooter tents and 8 pickup tents)
