I don't like to wear them because they increase noise and visibility. I make a smaller loadout to carry the tents and then sometimes carry more guns after they are all set on that map. Pack Mule skill is helpful for this.

U need to hit vital organs. It also depends on the animal class, the higher it is, the better gun/ammo u need. Cant kill classes 7+ if u dont have ammo with good penetration. The easiest vitals to hit are the lungs and the heart, for most animals its between the front legs, or depending on the way u see the animal, above the front leg. Some animals, like moose, die hard, even if u have a good gun, so u gotta chase them around a bit until they die. Hope it helps!

Yes Polymer Tip Bullets for .243 and 7mm are a must if you want to penetrate to vitals. Soft-Points really don't have the power to punch through anything tougher than a Whitetail.

Personally I prefer the wood over polymer furniture. So I always get the Regent over the empress.

If you wanna earn money just use the free .243 Soft Points and focus on hunting Whitetail, Blacktail and Coyote. Go for broadside shots so you catch a lung and they die quick.

However game revards you for quick kills. So targeting 2 lungs (or several other vital organs) is more profitable.

I don't know if there is a clear best. Most people use the Zarza .308 for its combination of power and fast follow-up shots, but some of the other choices have their own upside like increased accuracy (6.5mm) or higher penetration (.30-06). You don't need to think too hard about class 4 game.

People really like to set up their grind at the four northwestmost lakes because of their accessibility and respawns usually don't go far. (Cougarwatch and Sylvestre's Trail.) I have it kinda set up and if I can't find a respawn it's most likely at the middle west lake between Cougarwatch and Prosperity Pass or sometimes Swiss Valley.

there are quite a few videos on youtube you can look at to see how other people lay it out, although I could never quite copy some of the tent layouts on Sylvestre's it still works for me

Looking for some help around the mission to hunt a red fox with a bow in Hirschfelden. I'm only level 7, so I'm wondering if I don't have enough perks to accomplish this. I tracked this damn fox halfway across the map. I managed to lay eyes on it twice... and both times, it seems like me equipping my bow (instead of binocs) is what caused it to flee.

Is there something I can do to make this easier on myself? I'm crouching and going slowly, using the predator caller every 20-30 seconds or so. But it seems like I'm constantly 100m behind the fox, and it's extremely skittish. Help please?

I have not completed this mission, but I have done the very similar mission asking you to take a coyote with the bow. I think there are several factors that are making this difficult. The first is that it's innately hard, this is one of the hardest animals to get close to and they ask you to take it with the bow. I also think archery perks help a lot, even just the first level of Full Draw. The more developed your character the easier it will be. In light of these two things I suggest practicing on an easier animal type first. Shoot some deer with the bow to get used to it.

As far as your hunting technique I recommend against tracking foxes and other canids. It will almost always go like you say with the dog staying ahead of you and eventually catching your wind and fleeing. I suggest finding feed zones and stalking up on dogs that you know will be preoccupied. You can work on drink zones too, but I find feed zones give better results because they are less alert and it's daytime. Rest zones they sleep with one eye open good luck with that.

Calling foxes works well too, and feed time is the best time for that also. They tend to do one of two things, either creep straight toward you or circle around into your wind to sniff you out. Set up somewhere within calling distance of a need zone with good lines of sight keeping in mind their likely approaches. If they are anything like coyotes or bobcat they might take a while working their way over. I've lost count of the number of times I've become impatient, left, and spooked a predator I couldn't see 30-40m away.

Considering it is definitely the hardest mission in the game you supposed to suffer.
First of all you are extremely underleveled, better come back after reaching lvl 20-30 and master your bow (or crossbow) skills and feel of a distance. You will have only one opportunity to shot, it will be a disaster if you miss.
Pay close attention to unlock "soft feet" and "improvised blind" skills in Stalker skills. It will drastically improve you stealth.

Red Foxes are the hardest animals to hunt in the game. Extremely good eye sight, it can see you in deep booshes (max stealth level) from a distance of 40 meters, even if you are prone and don't moove.

In your case without stealth skills you will be spotted from 100+ metres. The only way you potentially can do a successful bow shot is from behind (out of red fox eye sight). And shots with a bow from 100 metres are pretty rough, wind strength will do a great matter here, especially for beginners.

I would say your best bet is to wait until you get bigger arrows (the 420 or 600 grain) and then just try to take a 100 meter shot may take a few attempts but you should hit it eventually and then it won’t rly matter where you hit it

And if you have a Spotting Knowlege level 3 in Ambusher skill tree you will see aproximate score and weight of an animal

Levels are determined by weight. Usually the higher levels will score higher

Main idea - the more mature animal is - more weight it will have - more level of awareness it will be (how fast and accurate it react to your actions) - more trophy rating it can potentially earn you after successful harvest (if you don't screw up you shots and use proper weapon caliber).
In case with female bison you do excellent, however those particular Bison is a Female (female scores are a lot smaller) and it is a young one (not enough weight)

That’s the class. Determines what guns are ethical so you don’t drop the medal down

Since moose are 8 you’ll need a gun that covers class 8. Using the 243 would not only be super slow but will drop the medal down because it’s classes 2-6.

You should try to get the Tent DLC if you can, I think it's the most important DLC to having a good play experience. It's folded into the console release for a good reason, but it's not so simple to do that on Steam (could require a new game listing).

I agree with Tn_Outdoors_Photography that it's not as effective as goose and duck decoys, but if you want to try it anyway check out Two Fawns (N-NE top lake), there is a valley between the outpost and the lake that has a lot of turkey and a lot of other animals traveling through it. They are spread out through the valley/foothill type areas of the map which means they are almost everywhere. Sun Sisters, Bending Forest (west Saguachee Plains), the valley in between that, even Prosperity Pass. Anywhere you see multiple groups with big toms.

and I highly suggest bringing the Crow Caller at least

That thing pins the turkeys to their spot, they can't help but gobble back at you when you drop that one. It's very effective and makes it easier to approach. The mouth caller (red fan-shaped mating call) encourages them to move towards you. It's a bit less effective overall but great for getting turkeys out of the brush. This is the call they recommend with the decoys.

I had to step away, did you find your turkeys? I think both callers are good, but if you can only afford one then use the Turkey Crow caller. The birds don't move after you use it, but they go wild with mating calls allowing you to stalk up on them. The Mouth caller makes them move closer to you, but I find that is slightly less effective for hunting because it takes longer and the location of the bird is less predictable.

It's a game design tilt to me that it's not unlocked from the beginning. probably Revontuli. I set it up on Layton and the way the water is split up on that map makes for more searching, walking, and adjusting tents. Rancho used to be the suggestion before Revontuli came out, you could try that. It's harder to get around and scout the map but once you lay tents everywhere it's tolerable.

yeah man, i just don't get it. THERE it is........ followed every direction given. emptied inventory of all weapons/scopes except iron sight .243 and poly ammo. 82.12yds away, had to be 82.02 or further. all trophy/harvest checks green. and it was a 100 quick kill bonus (distance tracked proves that even though i did NOT hover over the XP to take a ss of it after checking that).

Session score 350 also confirms 100% quick kill. I understand your frustration it seems like this mission may be bugged. You cut it very close on the distance so maybe there is a small conversion error (the game is metric) but I don't think so because 82.12 > 82.02 after all

i actually hovered over the XP to see 100 quick kill bonus but was too frustrated to THINK to hit F12 again. lol. not sure how to get past this one. i'm not sure if it's the very last mission (for me) or if there's another (or more) in this guy's "mission arc" but i've completed ALL the other mission arcs and side missions it seems..........VERY frustrating (i'm a "see it through" kind of person........short circuiting going on in the synapses right now......LOL)

Short answer: yes you can do that. Normally when you shoot animals purple blotches show up on your map to indicate hunting pressure, and when this gets too high it deletes nearby need zones and disperse those animals to new locations. I thought there were some quirks to how hunting pressure affects geese, but I don't know enough about that to say more. I think they don't like to land in places with high pressure though, so that's probably what is happening.

I had a spot on Revontuli same thing, e-caller, full spread, they don't like to land there anymore because I blasted too many. They still spawn and fly nearby though

So basically, I don't know what to do or who to ask LOL.
There was a multiplayer server I joined on Emerald Coast. It was full setup, tripods and tents everywhere. The dude was 100% max level host. He was prepped. It was a real good set up for grinding. The host never replied to me in chat though. I played for like 15 minutes before I went to a lake for red deer. Several herds but only one herd with a super rare melanistic. I killed it, got suspicious but no one answered me. In the next 15 minutes I found a Great One fallow deer. I was like no way, I told the host to come tp so he could get it, since I was like its their server, if they've been grinding for it they should have it. They never came, so I took it. Then like.. another 10 minutes I go to a lake and I see a Great One red deer left on the ground dead. ??? It says the host left it. My thought was, well maybe they have like 100s of great ones.. and just left it for some player to harvest if they've never got one? The only problem I have is im VERY confused. Is this insane luck since their server is so set up? I went around mostly the rest of the map and there were normal herds, lvl 1-3s, nothing crazy at all from every species. There were really good red deer and fallow deer spots that were great for grinding, great herd management. It just felt like a professional set up, but it seems too good to be true. xD I never got the chance to check the stats of the hunter log etc, and the server crashed a little bit after sadly. I just don't know because of my findings on all the rest of the herds/packs around the map were all normal, tbh.
The thing is, if it was hacked/modded I do not wanna keep these as harvest/trophies since I didn't work for them and it's basically cheating imo. I just wanna know your guys opinion first, I am unfamiliar with the hacked/modded servers.

i always try to shoot the vital organs of any deer but i always end up hitting the flesh, or when i get close whilst crouched and i have scent remover on they just run away, even if their back is turned on me and they are 30 metres away, does anyone have tips so that i can actually hit my shots?

so......i MAY or may not have played "chicken" up close and personal with a Cape Buffalo.......i KEPT sticking her with arrows for the "harvest an animal downed with a heart shot with a bow" but she kept coming at me. after the third arrow she fled (that buffalo has fleas........LOL)......... and THEN i realized i had the 300gr small game arrows equipped at the moment 😄 😄 😄 playing pin cushion with a nearly 1 ton animal at close range is not advised 😄 😄 😄 i also, BUILT one of the in game stands, shot a lion, and learned that even in a rigid stand, he CAN charge and get you........ i came back there after respawning at nearest outpost and took that 7 Very hard AND his girlfriend and they're now a beautiful mating pair in the lodge 😉

Hi, it seems like you might be new to the game based on your question and using the 243. The shot you posted looks good, so try to do that more. You're probably a low level, so shooting and stealth will both be more difficult for your character. As you get more skills and perks (Soft Feet, Steady Hands, etc) this will become easier. If you approach without being noticed you'll have a lot more time to perfect your shot and practice that.

From what you described it seems like you may not be respecting the wind enough. Forget about scent remover and try to only approach the animals from downwind (wind blowing your scent away from the animals). Stay behind trees, bushes, or hills when you can. Watch your visibility and noise meters in the HUD and try to stay under 3 bars of noise within 100m of the animals, or 2 bars of noise within 50m. Visibility is affected by terrain and animal type, but half circle within 100m works on most species.

This is a tough mission and I had a similar problem to you with no bull elk having need zones or traveling nearby. I must have gone to the stand 20+ times trying to get this, and when I eventually got it I needed the caller and I still had to make a 350m shoot.

I set up a tent near the stand in the top of this image (10916.972, 4428.999) and shot across the river 🫣 at a group of drinking bulls on the other side.

Im shooting at like 200m and still not getting it. Its so hard to decide where to shoot with the scope moving a lot and the zeroing not being precise cause the drop off

also earlier today I hit a lot more vital organ shots on all my animals after I sent it, and this helps a lot more

You should practice at the range in Hirschfelden to learn your drop-offs/holdovers. I like using the 4-8x out to render distance on animals the size of elk, but you can try the 8-16x if you like. The field of view is so small on it though. Bullet drop/adjustments for the Canning with the 4-8x scope:
200m: <1" (dot covers top edge of bullseye)
250m: 2.5" (1/4 of the way to the first dot)
300m: 4" (1/3)
350m: 6" (near 1/2)
400m: 9" (3/4)

I just tested these now, shooting past 300m starts to become difficult because of the shakiness of the rifle so there might be a slight mistake at the further ranges on the chart.

no, even the first dot on the 4-8x is a huge holdover, it's not the most functional scope that way. With the 8-16x it might make more sense but it's still harder to execute for me. I'll get those ranges next

I'm sorry I don't know how to make fullscreen work properly. I'm sure it has something to do with the window manager. I fix this for myself by running in a borderless full-screen window, if that would work for you then you could try that.

That's all up to you. If the ground is pretty open and you can see far, I say running is safe but if there's brush, I rarely run since you never know waht can be hiding nearby.

But on the flip side, running does spook stuff out of hiding which might give you an easy shot if you are good at leading shots.

In most animals, just slightly behind the front leg muscles to catch lungs and avoid the mass of leg bones. It roughly corresponds to their "shoulder"

Some animals are very front heavy, like Buffalo but, but some have very thin chests like Moose.

Also predators, aside from crocs, tend to have less mass on their bodies too.
