Im on vualez #5 in layton and i killed one coyote in it's solo drinking zone. I need one more harvest. But there doesnt seem to be anyother coyotes around since i have seen no other drinking and no other needzones in the area so far. What should i do?

How did you manage to sneak up on it? I can't lure Coyotes and I can't seem to find them. I only ever see their flee alert, usually at around 100yds they bolt. I've tried setting up a lure in their area and waiting for entire day cycles and they just don't show. It's driving me nuts I just wanna finish this stupid Cheelah mission 😭😂

My current attempt to lure one in. I guess I'll sit here for a few days and see what happens. I like the realism of this game but the while you might not see an animal for days bit is TOO realistic lmfao

This is also the hiking village area! It's just north of the lake there. I spooked a Coyote here so I set up the lure and will wait and see what happens. I'm not about to try and track/chase a coyote across the entire map

Coyotes have great hearing and smell and will try to smell you out by going straight where the wind is blowing so even if the coyote is in front of you, it has a good chance of coming from the side or behind

yes play slow and try to take down everything you get a shot at, even class 1 animals give good cash and exp. also trophys aren't that worth it if you are unsure of the shot

I'm using the Zarza-10 .308 and, after learning the hard way that Penetration is way better than Expansion, Have been taking out Moose with it left and right. Before I swapped to the Poly rounds I was chasing wounded Moose across the map for 20-30 minutes and either losing them or emptying the mag into them lol. Might try the .338 and see how it feels.

Expansion does more dmg to single organs hit and causes more bleed, but the penetration rounds hit more organs, go through bone and make getting organ shots from off angles much easier. They're just better. I use expansion rounds for small game, that's it.

Bows seem like they'd be great for class 1-3, since arrows within that range fly really well. Idk how well the 700 grain arrows work lmao. The rangefinder scope for the bows basically takes away any skill needed though, since it just gives you the exact sighting needed to hit at any range.

I'm on PS5 myself. Crossave from Sony to PC is a gigantic pain in the ass due to Sony's strict scrutiny and security requirements for their console version games. The only games that allow for cross save are online games that have in-domain saves that are specific to your account with the developers rather than the console, like Dauntless.

Yeah I leave all that default, it works well for me without needing to tweak it. Dropping the Aim sensitivity to 2 has made tracking and pinpoint adjustments butter smooth.

2 is fast enough to track animals mid run and if you need quick adjustments across a large area (say turning around 180⁰), release aim and use your look speed. I'm so glad they separated the two so I can have quick look speed and smooth aim speed without needing compromise.

Small Game hunting seems way more lucrative than big game, at least as a low level... like an Elk or Moose nets me 800+ cash but if I don't drop it I spend 5min tracking it. Meanwhile I can wipe out entire groups of Turkey and Jackrabbit and net 300+ cash plus way more net rifle points.

Noob Tip for dummies like me!

You can deploy portable tents and stands next to each other in hunting spots, to make your own little hunting camps. Finding nice clearings and setting them up allows you to fast travel to hotspots and minimize the risk of spooking prey, compared to walking to your favorite spots from the nearest outpost. Plus, the tents allow you to change your loadouts and rest. I've set up a few of these now and they're an absolute game changer!

How does effective range work? I know it can't just be the maximum lethal range of the ammo, I just took down 2 Whitetail at 70m with a bow, but the arrows list a 22yd effective range

Hello, I have a small problem, I have some experience with the game, but not with birds, I used to hunt more birds on The hunter classic, but here something is not going well, or I don't understand. Every time I go pheasant hunting, I don't manage to catch a single one, they get scared of me and fly away from at least 50 meters, I don't even mention the other species of birds, and ducks and geese... I don't understand a thing , I don't hit any of them, or they are too far away from me... or they move too fast and I don't aim them. Do you have any advice... what am I doing wrong? On the hunter classic it was a bit easier to hunt the birds.

I've been hunting Ringnecks by crouching to their area and whistling. I then shoot them with my .22

Birdshot or a .22 can hit a flying pheasant from 50m. If you can't make that shot, watch the direction they fly to and then sneak into the area. Wait for their warning call, to assess their general direction and distance, and then sneak up to them. When you're able to make a shot, whistle to spook them and pop them mid air. Sometimes they even fly right over you.

Oh I'd also like to add that Pheasant seem to fly really slow, and you barely have to lead your shots with 20ga birdshot. At 50m you want to aim about half their body length in front of them. Probably less with 12ga.

Is there a hotspot map for Silver Ridge like the one for Layton?

I got Silver Ridge last night, there's an open field near the first lookout you unlock, where you can setup a tent and a stand (or build the one that's there but I prefer hunting on the opposite side), and just wipe out Roe Deer, Fallow Deer and Red Fox. Red Deer also appear there but I'm only using the Air Rifle and Bow right now and they don't usually get close enough to land a clean kill shot with my current Bow. But the Roe and Fallow can both be dropped where they stand with the Air Rifle.

Oh, but If you want to just farm XP/Money, I'd really, really recommend you try Goose hunting. The Wild Goose Chase DLC is %1000 worth getting. Find a field on the map, set up a stand or blind, drop your goose decoys and use a call (or the electronic caller if you have it) and you can infinitely hunt geese. They don't react to hunting pressure and fly by often. A shotgun or 2 and a .22 rifle/handgun will net you downright silly XP, Score and Cash.

I might actually try hunting them with the Bow, too....

Yep, if you hunt without using a stand or blind pressure will build more quickly, so you can use that to your advantage. I believe 3 kills with a firearm will max the pressure, but it takes 15 kills while in a stand or blind.

Edit- I don't use firearms anymore so I can't confirm for sure if these numbers are exact, as Bows and Air Rifles seem to reduce pressure, though it could just be my imagination

They move! You can chase them down and hunt them infinitely, and the pressure will follow them. Eventually they'll circle back to your favorite hunting zone. Alternatively, find Whitetails and just massacre them. They travel in large groups and you can really rack (haha, pun) up pressure.

Lmao well the Bloodhound tracks kills for you automatically, you just order it to track and it does the rest, so you can simply follow it to your kill, harvest it, go back to the hunt area and repeat. As you harvest, the blood disappears and only leaves trails that haven't been harvested yet. You could do this manually but it's much slower than with the hound.

Do note that if the shot isn't lethal, the hound will continue to track the wounded animal after the blood stops, and will eventually slow to a walk. When you're close to spooking the animal, the hound will whine to alert you. At that point you want to Heel it (on controller you must tap Down on the D-pad), so the hound doesn't spook it. Ideally you want to avoid tracking animals that long though, I just don't track animals that I know survived the shot anymore.

You can also freely investigate tracks within the area while she tracks the harvest, without interrupting her. However if you get too far, she will stop and bark, and if you keep moving away she will abandon the tracking and heel to you. It's a pretty big distance for that to happen though.

She will, I hunt solely with Bows and Air Rifle (aside from birds, I use shotgun and .22), and typically bag 4-5 animals at a time. I've never lost a single one with my Hound.

This is my Red Fox spot, there is a hunting stand setup across the field but I prefer the spot I set mine. Foxes tend to come by in the early morning from the east, or from right behind my stand. You can get easy shots with the Bow from here. I use the electronic caller but the Predator Call works too.

You can also wipe out Roe and Fallow Deer while hunting the Fox, for easy money/xp/score.

I found that I dropped targets more quickly with penetration rounds. Hitting 2 lungs drops the target instantly, hitting 1 with expansion rounds tends to have it run off. The bigger the prey, the more important penetration becomes.

That being said, I'm now using just the bow and air rifle, so the only time I use Expansion rounds are for class 2 predators like coyote, since the Air Rifle's stopping power and 75 expansion make it an instant drop with the HPs. Anything bigger gets penetration rounds or arrows.

Lolol it started when I tried hunting moose with my .308, and kept chasing them for miles. Ended up swapping to penetration and dropping them instantly or within 100yds of the shot. Since then, expansion rounds don't exist for anything above class 2 for me lol

There seems to be a correlation with the ammunition's class range as well. Like for the .45 Air Rifle, it can hunt class 2, 3, and 4, but it absolutely cannot drop a Whitetail with the Hollow Points. With the penetration rounds though, it can take them down very quickly.

Meanwhile my .308 can hunt class 4-8, and it's hollow points can absolutely take down a whitetail without issue. So if you're at the very limit of what a rifle or ammo type is rated for, penetration rounds seem to always be the better option. Guess that's why they're more expensive lol

My very limited understanding of herd management is that when you shoot an animal and harvest it, another respwawns to take it's place. So if you shoot the low level animals, the chance of it respawning as a better level is higher than shooting a higher lvl one, statistically speaking.

Theoretically, if that's correct, you could eventually work through a herd long enough to have entirely Gold/Diamond animals, if there isn't a hard limit to them.

If you camp the same area and keep killing animals, eventually they will stop going to that area entirely. To reduce pressure in one area, move to another and hunt. As you kill animals in other areas, the pressure moves to that area. If you hunt in a stand or blind, pressure build up is greatly reduced, which allows you to hunt the same area much longer.

That’s not how it works

Herd management is making use of the respawn “balancing” system. The respawn system tries to balance out the levels of all the animals on the map, so you aren’t stuck with like a hundred level 4/5 red deer

By building up an incredibly large percentage of low level males, the game tries to balance it out by spawning higher levels in return

So you wanna be doing the opposite of what you described. I’ll use whitetail as an example;

Step one would be to just shoot any whitetail you see until you have an abundance of level 3s/diamond level 2s.

Then, you go to the zones you don’t want to grind at and continuously shoot the bucks there until they’re all level one.

After that, you go back to your shooter zones and kill the diamonds and grind as normal. Only shooting level 2s and 3s

You can shoot up to 3 animals before zones within the hunting pressure disappear. The 4th kill in that area will “delete” the zones.

With bows or hunting stands/tripods/treestands/blinds, that number increases to 15 before the zone disappears

A combination of bows and blinds will let you shoot up to 31 I believe

Its pretty variable. With grey foxes and water buffalo you can have a mythical be a diamond but you have better chances with a legendary. with a legendary there's no guarantee you'll get a diamond though.

with some other species like moose and fallow deer who cap at level 5, some 4s can be diamond but thats uncommon, better chances with a 5 but its not guaranteed

and whitetail can be diamond at 2 or 3 and so on. basically a lot of animals can make diamond one level lower than typical

but this is pretty rare

Just discovered that the "NPC" birds like crows, seagulls, doves and hawks can actually be shot and killed. So I went to the shooting range and spent a bit of time learning the lead distances for 100m .22 and Shotgun hits, with my new moving targets. 😂

Only the FOV and zoom change, for the FOV it's not useful at all cause you can just dezoom with the basic one, and the zoom difference is not worth the price, take it if you have spare money, but if you can buy something else, don't buy it

Oh sweet! They did change it then. All video comparisons I've seen have shown that the .22H killed even class 1 animals more slowly than the .22LR, despite having better stats. Like a Turkey of the same size being shot at the same distance by both rounds and the .22H took nearly twice as long for the bird to drop.

Also, while I got you, do you know if the .22LR or .22H have a smaller alert radius when fired? I'm using a semi-auto .22 and it sounds as silent as my Air Rifle but I wonder if it still has the 200m spook distance of other firearms.

If you like collecting rare furs, then disturbed vegetation. I have had couple of piebalds and melanistic just because of disturbed vegetation. If you like to shoot anything that comes across and like to have tent, tripod, e-caller and everything else with you, then pack mule.

Some birds and small game are actually meant to be spooked, I think, like hares and pheasants. In these cases I like to sneak up to their area and get into a good shooting position, then use the Whistle to startle them. I then shoot them with a shotgun or .22 as they bolt.

For Birds that can be called or lured into an area, simply setting up decoys and using a caller while in a stand or blind of any kind, will have them flying right in your lap, and are very easy to hunt.
