You can only tax things that are saved in harvest. If u saved it in the harvest next time you kill an animal check your harvest and tax it from there. Thats what I did

If I then kill it will my 2-6 rifle instead of a lighter, 2-4 one, will I get the same results?

Not sure how I should optimize my gear, if I should bring one 1-2, one 2-6 and one 6-9 etc.

@stoic maple you want to use the most powerful weapons that still fall under the class of the animal you want so you kill animals quicker thus better results

This depends on the class of the animal

If you are shooting a class 1 animal (rabbit, turkey, goose etc) you need to shoot it with a weapon that is geared for class 1
For instance the .22LR

you technically can kill them all with higher class weapons, but you will not get full score for them

So within the class 1 Goose, I think the level goes up to 5? (If I remember this correctly)
You want to strictly pay attention to class - not the 'level' - because a L1 (level 1) and an L5 goose are still both class 1 animals. Ergo can both be killed by the .22 Virant (the .22LR).

I’d Say The Best To Buy Is The 7mm. It Can Take Everything From Peccary To Water Buffalo. You Can Buy The .338 When You Have The Money To. It’s Really Not A Required Weapon For Class 9 Hunting, I Just Have It For Fun.

Hello all. Looks like a great community you folks have here! I'm setting up my first grind (Layton/Moose) and I have a few questions about now herd nodes work that I haven't been able to find a clear answer to elsewhere. First, I've located a ton of drink zones, but many of them are single-member zones. What's the best way to manage those?

if you look at the weapons in the store, and then look at the bullets they take - you can see what classes the bullets cover. Which gun to use is going to come down to personal preference. I dislike the feel of shotguns, despite how useful they are, and I am far better with handguns or rifles.
If you were going to pick up a DLC - I would wait for the holiday sale. There might be some stuff around Thanksgiving, but for SURE there will be stuff around Christmas 🙂

You can try to kill them and see if they merge or move to a better area - but chances are they stay singles and will just move around slightly as you take them.

I would say go to youtube and look up RonMcTube - he's done herd management videos in the past and even though his might not be for moose in particular, the gist of it would remain the same

Here's a map showing where moose have been seen in Layton. Your map wont be a 1:1 to this one, but in the least it might show you more places to look

.270 can kill a moose, but I think not effectively. Better off with .300, .338 and 7mm (or if you are using a bow, the 600 grain arrows)

General guidelines for low lvl player getting around? Seems like if I do anything but low crawl, its a sound trigger for critters. I dont have many perks or skills yet, only lvl 9

Weapon pack 1 and power pack are my top 2 recommend together both of those give you basically everything you would want immediately usefulness wise,
Wp1 gives you the best 22lr in the game it's a must have for class 1 species like rabbits and ducks and turkeys,
Gives you the crossbow which is a very fun learning into the realm of bow hunting
Recurve for when you want a bow hunting challenge,

Power pack gives you the bolt action 7mm which it's most versatile firearm in the game covering classes 4-9
Bolt action 338 which is the best big game rifle in the game
And bolt 308 which is a great medium game rifle
Plus with 7mm 243 ranger and 22lr you are able to hunt everything in the game and past harvest check with those three rifles

Saseka is the top trophy launch in the game so if you're planning to play long term and keep trophies I greatly recommend picking it up,
The bloodhound is not really essential like it's whole point is tracking wounded animals so really it all depends if you want help tracking wounded animals or not

They are rare, high quality/trophy animals (For deer, they'll have really grand racks)
For instance your bear, if you look at bottom left of harvest screen, it's a Bronze.
Note the game encourages you to get a clean ethical kill (aka hit the lungs or heart, don't touch the head) because if you use wrong ammo or don't hit a vital, the 'quality' of the trophy will be one less. Bronze instead of Silver for instance.

it's only his reserve on his side but see it as he hosts the server. and if someone joins he joins his map but only outposts get saved if one doesn't own the map
