it means something has heard or seen you, get low slow and move towards

the last part can be made easier with a lure, but its not needed

most of my kills are still over 150m out so far

just shoot them from opposite side of the water and chase/collect

Oh great and powerful hunters. I need your infinite wisdom. A wiki search says that hunting pressure shows then you ahoot an animal and THE ANIMAL DIES. However. I have been tracking this animal for literally 20 minutes and there is no more blood trail. Is the wiki wrong? Is the animal possibly still alive even though i have hunting pressure?

can someone explain herd management to me and should i be doing it?

So what herd management implies is that you shoot all the biggest trophy animals, i.e. male Whitetail Deer at Level 2 or higher, and with this you can increase the chance of even higher trophy animals to spawn... However if you just started the game I would recommend to just shoot every trophy animal you see, so you can practice your shot placement so you do not misplace your shot when an actual Diamond or even Great One is coming around

An animal that gets you a trophy rating, for example for Whitetail Deers only male ones are getting you trophies and not female ones...

You could start right away if you want to, but as I said first practicing your shot placement on various species, with maybe different guns and different distances might help you more in the first place and if you think you are confident enough that you will hit the kill shot at least 95% of the time then you can actually start grinding for Diamonds and Great Ones

So depending on the species you want to kill the higher Level animals, like for Whitetails >= Level 2 or Moose maybe >= Level 4/5.... it is not an exact Science in that regard... yes if you'd like you can shoot the Silver+ animals as a target, however the smaller ones like Level 1 you can let stay on your map

not exactly as for animals that get to Level 9 you can also start killing the animals starting at Level 4/5 (rather 5 I would say) and for Moose for example you can also shoot big Level 3s, as I said it is not an exact science.... Just shoot the bigger/higher leveled animals in a herd

Yeah probably more is better... you should never kill more than 3 animals at one spot as too much hunting pressure will lead to your zones dissappearing and shifting to other places

so mathematically shooting those isnt bad

getting them in a zone gives you a few hours to play with them

they will want to drink for like 4h and youll get them to come back for a few times before time runs out

between zones there is no predicting where they go

but they usually come back to the zone they are at when disturbed

I'll explain herd management using fallow deer as an example

People actually get great ones quicker with herd manaement

With Fallow deer you want to keep difficulty 1 and 2 bucks alive, as a large population of small males will encourage large males to spawn. You kill difficulty 3s and above. 4s and 5s can make diamond, and a great one is basically just a fancy diamond

With whitetail that means leaving level 1 bucks alive and just culling 2s and 3s

i do that anyways with white tail but i do kill level 1s if i shoot the level 2,3 if they in a herd

The 3s can respawn into 2s, increasing the pool of bucks you SHOUDNT shoot, which also then further encourages big guys to spawn, so that means at some point ur gonna get level 4s and 5s a lot which means lots of diamonds and eventually a great one

Great ones are just a fancy diamond, so herd management is encouraged. Killing every single buck is actually gonna hurt your chances

So keep the small ones alive

Yeah if u shoot more than 3 animals in one zone (with a gun) its gonna remove the zones

Yeah but its gonna take awhile, for a great one grind dont worry about it tbh dont make it harder for urself
