Its only been a problem with an individual animal. 7mm Magnum within 120 or so yards, holding breath, never used the zeroing perk because my aim is decent enough without it and I don't take shots from farther than 190 yards.
I have had a similar issue where the bug effects all my guns and is present when shooting any animal, but it is fixed with a game restart. This time it won't go away when I restart my game and it only seems to be an issue with one individual

wind affects bows more than bullets, at the appropriate ranges bullets will basically land right where you aimed, 75m, 150m, 300m, you do need to adjust for bullet drop and rise when shooting outside of those ranges. for example zeroed at 75m and the animal is 110m, you'll need to aim higher, or if you zero for 150m you'll need to aim a bit lower

and same on the poly tip bullets, I haven't used soft point since the first day I played. as long as you hit one vital organ with the appropriate class of bullet, the animals always die

are they dying with vital hits with your m1? it is an appropriate rifle. if they're dying then it's up to you, only thing you're not getting is quick kill bonus but in the long run quick kill doesn't matter much

the other thing is they may take longer to track down, I use the .300 and they still run for a good 100m with single lung. heart shots drop em in a few feet. so if you don't wanna track that far, aim for the heart

me? I alternate between the .303 fl sporter from TA map, the .308 zarza for classes 4 to 8, the eckers 30-06 was solid for me early on, the .300 magnum for anything class 7 to 9. I'm about to buy the M1 for classes 4 to 8 to switch up some gameplay. from the base game the 7mm is solid for 4 to 9, think it struggles on 9 from what I see, but I don't personally have any xp with it. I see people use the 6.5mm, it's really preference tbh. you need to enjoy the gun you're using.

but the higher the accuracy rating on the gun the less rifle sway you get during aiming so I gravitate towards those guns on xbox. a little harder to control than a mouse

you could also get used to bow hunting, the arrows basically cover all classes, it just takes a bit more patience and arrows wreck shit

Either enter your trophy lodge or go into where you go to equip weapons

There's an option to Access your trophy manager there

You can see a tab for saved harvests and you can just taxidermy anything you have saved there

it helps to hunt a good number of spots, but it's not strictly necessary

only need the zeroing(optional but I find zeroing amazing) steady hands and breath control. steady hands and breath control are musts maxed out. without zeroing your rifle defaults to a zeroing of 150m, which means you'll need to compensate for any difference. which is doable as long as you remember this. but really unless you plan to bow hunt or use handguns a lot no point in not using zeroing

you also need to compensate anyways for ranges in between the zero ranges of 75, 150 and 300 but a little time spent on range or just shooting animals will get you used to what these compensations are

Hey, newish player here. I was doing the Cuatro Colinas storyline and got the Ogro wolf. I wanted to taxiderm it to join the phantasmal wolf (and later the black wolf, forgot the fur colour name). Didn’t have enough cash at the time so I saved the Ogro. Did some more wolf hunting and got some nice ones so I saved them too. When I finally got the money to taxiderm the Ogro, I realised I’d accidentally saved over it. My friend told me that the only way I could get it back was to start a whole new game. As far I’m aware, that’d mean giving up my current save file along with the albino roo and albino European hare I’ve got in one of my lodges (which the same friend tells me is pretty good for how short of a time I’ve been playing). Is there any other fix or am I doomed to choose between Ogro or albinos? Sorry for long message, just wanted to give the whole context!

You get more versatility out of the 7mm than the 300, but if you want something specifically for class 9 then the 300 will be better

plus you get a whole ass map too

I haven't really touched the .338 so can't comment, but I'm fairly sure it holds up somewhat equal to the 300

the .300 is better than any other rifle for 7, 8 and 9. class 4 to 8 rifles can take down class 7 and 8 just fine but none of them do it as well as the .300 except maybe the .308, that thing is just a powerhouse. double lunged a lion with it and killed it, and also accidently shot a Cape Buffalo with it and it still died. to answer that question, I'd go with yukon if only one dlc is an option. a powerful rifle plus a cool map is better value

I'd recommend yukon. the
.300 blows the .338 out of the water. a powerful rifle for classes 7, 8 and 9 and a reserve is better value if you are only buying one and already have the modern rifle pack

the sway on the .338 is awful with only 40 accuracy, the .300 has 80 accuracy so it's steady as hell

Question - why does everyone not just use the 7mm for all animals between class 4-9 on each map?

I see people talk about the 338 and the 300 but I don’t understand why you would use them when the 7mm can do such a wide range of classes

While the 7mm can kill the higher class animals ethically, it's not as powerful as a 300 or 338.
So while the 7mm might only hit a single lung, the 300 can double lung, and so bring the animal down faster.

So, less time spent tracking

and for those shots taken at an awkward angle, a higher penetration weapon is more likely to reach a vital organ, rather then just a flesh hit

taking it further from the bigger gun do it better that daft said, people have their preferences on what weapons they like to use, a big part of enjoying this game is the satisfaction of using different weapons. not everyone wants to use the same weapon for a white tail deer as they would a bison. like me for example I like to use my FL Sporter .303 for 4 to 6, and then I also like to change up and use my zarza .308, and then I further like to change it up and use my M1

for class one you can use whatever bug agreed above that poly tip kills anything with a vital. I guess if you're a bad shot try soft point but it's super easy to hit lungs with poly. I haven't looked back since swapping to poly in the first couple of hours of starting out

Generally speaking poly is better because the pen depth of this game is abnormally shallow across the board for "game balance" reasons.
I use soft points only for rare cases like moose with 7mm, in which case the bullet will not reach double lung anyway, so might as well do more damage to the first lung. Or for economic reasons on underclassed animals, like when shooting a class 4 with a 4-8 rifle.

Tips for lesser kudu hunting not having a issue but some efficiency or aid in finding them since they like to drink in 7ft tall Reeds makes them at times a difficulty

Calling them out does help but sometimes it's the tall Reeds for 300m
