1. The corpse will despawn once you exit to main menu, go to another reserve or close the game
2. It isn’t rare in the same sense as finding a rare fur type, it’s just max score which is always good

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the group so I hope I'm asking this in the correct place. I want to try and understand the skill and perk points better as after some searching on google I'm confused! The info I found said the max player level is 60 with the max skill and perk points set at 22. But it didn't say whether the 22 points was each or combined! I did ask this question on the Steam community group and someone linked me to the Fandom wiki page for COTW, that says that you get either a skill or a perk point for level up to level 37. Then from level 37 it's every 3 levels. So far that doesn't sound to confusing, but when you look at what the wiki page and do the math things don't add up. Both my wife and I play COTW. I'm on level 45 I have 17 skill points and 11 perk points. If you go by what the wiki says I should have had 19 of each! My wife has restarted her game, again if you go by the wiki where you get either a skill or a perk point every level, she should have 2 of each for being on level 5, but she's only got 1 of each. I know some of the skills and perks require several points, but from what I've read and what is happening in our games it doesn't make sense, at least not to us. If someone could explain how it works better it would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post and if I put this in the wrong place.

By level 60 you will have 23 skill points and 23 perk points. Are you positive you haven’t accidentally spending them on skills and perks after levelling up?

Your other two points have been put into the Ambusher tree for skills.

in terms of perks, you have 6 put into rifle, 2 each into handgun and shotgun, and 3 into bows.

Recently I gave my friend a ps4 with a Cotw disc that worked just fine for me before I gave it to him, I transferred all of my data from the disc to my ps5 through a usb, I also erased all data on the ps4 before giving it to him. Once the game was downloaded on the ps4 again, he wasn’t able to access multiplayer and almost all gun textures and some animal textures didn’t load and still aren’t although the game is up to date, can someone help with this problem?

first, go around shooting any trophy animals you know the existence of

after you've done that, go into Documents - Avalanche Studios - COTW - Saves - *insert long number here, should be the only thing in the folder* - and take the file called "animal_population_1" out of the folder

following that, verify steam files

...and I say "take out" instead of "delete" because while I'm pretty sure that file is Layton, it could also be Hirsch, in which that case it would be the one labeled "0"

Just because an estimate goes up to diamond minimum doesn't mean they will be diamonds, and as far as what we've seen posted here, bears MUST be level 9 to actually have a chance.

It sounds like you're saying the opposite? The tracks don't disappear when the animal does? So you can just follow the tracks to get it back in render range, right?

so, MY EXPERIENCE is, that an *animal *will disappear when it leaves render range. The game probably computes where the animal should be at that time of day and teleports it e.g. to its drink zone or wherever. Any tracks the animal did while being in your render range will stay for a set amount of hours.

ofc the old dropping of an animal could also mean it's just behind that bush chilling in its need zone.

Hmm it feels like there must be a bit more to it. E.g. I've seen tracks around, say, a drinking zone when the animal's drinking time hasn't been for like 6 hours. Surely the animal hasn't been hanging out in render range all that time since drinking time, right? Maybe I'm misremembering though.

yeah well the secret is not clear yet. I can sleep in my tent for a long amount of time and there were no tracks before I slept, but there will be some drink zone tracks when I get up, and the animal will be long gone.

That's fair, and lines up with my experience as well. I've never been able to find a particular animal by tailing its tracks

For example, I've learned that there's a specific set of horns for feral goats that is basically guaranteed diamond, even if the estimate isn't. This game has a lot of learning to it

without zero-ing every gun has a certain range the crosshairs are centered to. It's pretty inconsistent across each gun and takes a lot of practice to find the correct height to aim at at various ranges

zero-ing just makes it so you can set a range, and the gun's crosshairs are centered at that range

so if the animal is 150 meters out and you zero to 150 meters, you just aim right at the center of your crosshairs and you hit it perfectly every time

Hey guys, I've been playing COTW for a while now, but I've never really played the Hirschfelden reserve! Where in the Spreeberg region is the best place to hunt a Red Fox with a 60lb bow? I can find their tracks, and I hear them calling out, but can I find them! There might be red fox in this reserve but I bet they all disappear to a different part of the map when you get to this mission!! The general best map based on community experience:

I've got a weird question. I'm doing the Hirschfelden mission called Mr. Sommers Bow, kill a red fox with a 60lb bow. I've done all the prep work, for example found a need zone, set up a stand left the area for a while then advanced the time to a couple of hours before the animals are supposed to be there so I had time to arrive before they do. However, when I did the set up the need zone seemed actively being used. Now that I've advanced the time, all evidence of animal use is gone. The zone is still on my map. Is it possible to accidentally create a temporary zone by pushing an animal off of its original path?

Try walking and crouching, don't sprint. It's easier to find animals near water, and the more you play the game, you'll know where and when to go to find animals. Aim behind the shoulder, that will hit the lungs and bring the animal down. With the starter rifle, you're really only able to take deer and small predators. There's a couple free guns in the store that are more powerful and can take bigger animals, make sure to get those

They are on the Hirschfelden (Germany) reserve map, and you need a weapon that is allowed to kill Class 9 animals, such as the .338 rifle or a bow with heavy arrows. I think there is also a revolver 🤔

There is no caller that works on them but if you have the Dazed and Confused skill buff, then I believe you can use the Red Deer scent to attract them. They are not easily spooked though so you might try to ambush them on the route they take from one need zone to the next. Or wait at a lake where they drink at 10:00 AM.

I've been running around my reserves completing the story lines for fun and I finally got around to layton lake and I spent a good hour or 2 looking for black bears to take a picture of and couldnt find a single animal let alone black bears so I found a forum telling me where my animals were, so does anyone know how fix it so my entire reserves spawn location isnt the middle of the map

you just have to get your stuff set up and mindlessly slaughter until the fateful moment

Yeah, Kingkwak helped me fix it, it's happened to other people since I found an old steam thread with a couple of people having the same problem and if it weren't for that thread I would never had guessed hundreds of my animals would be piled dead center of the map but king and I both think it's a really rare bug to get so nobody really knows about it
