you can just place a single animal on a stand as well

and before you ask
lets say you made, say, a huddle whitetail with two diamonds and a piebald, but then you get an albino and you wanna replace one of the two diamonds in the multimount with the albino.
you can dismantle multimounts by first removing the mount from its stand, then going into the trophy manager, locating the mount, and click "dismantle". this will return all the trophies in the mount to your trophy manager. then you can reassemble the mount with the desired trophies

Hello, new player. Couple of questions about the mechanics behind need zones. So as I understand it, all animals in a set area will come to the nearest need zone during it's time. Do they all come at the same time? Is it better to arrive at the start of the zone time or the end? Do animals return to the zone after being spooked from it?

sometimes for some species they will all come at the same time

usually better to get there between the beginning and middle

for example red deer on te awaroa drink between 6 and 10

i like being at the zones by 6:30-7

and for animals returning after being spooked it kinda depends

i think its somehow related to how they're spooked, spook distance, if another animal in its herd was shot, etc

animals will not spook if a gunshot is past 300m too

unless an animal in close proximity or in the same herd is the one getting shot

Hey new player here as well, just got the game two days ago and already loving it, but at the moment I feel like I'm sort of just wandering around aimlessly following tracks which don't really lead to much, and often seeing animals run off before I've even spotted them myself, despite being prone, using that special spray stuff and not sprinting around. I've tried waiting at drinking times etc: but sometimes I just sit in a bush for 3 game hours or so without having seen a thing. My question is, are there any spots where I can consistently find animals to hunt on Hirschfelden? And what are some good DLC's I should be getting? Thanks a lot!

Don't waste money on the scet killing spray. Pay attention to the wind. The app has all the animal need zone times listed. Not all water sources have the same animals so you may be hitting drink zones at the wrong time for the wrong zone.

you should buy tent dlc and watch some guides in youtube about how to use tents after that also if you 200m close away with animals they will feel you it depends on animal types

I see, the only experience I've had before this game is irl where you just get given a post and then a load of dogs guided by a few people in a forest lure the animals out in the fields where the hunters on the posts shoot them. Thanks for the help!

Hey new player here too, got about 8 hours. First, get off that map and go to the Lakes one. I forget the name. It's way better. Also I found that you don't wanna spend much time following tracks. Try to hunt at the need spots. And spend a lot of time walking near lakes, a lot of times you'll just stumble on animals drinking and whatever.

Tent DLC like alhabet said and the modern weapons pack has the 308 which is best in class. The long range scope kind of sucks in my opinion so don't waste money on it. The 300 is avalible with the yukon dlc but a new player will take a long time to unlock it. It awesome for the larger class animals. Don't use a backpack it adds too much noise

I found that quite a lot, so much easier to spot an animal on a hill / field than just sitting behind some bush in the forest, I find myself constantly thinking a rock or branch is an animal in forest areas too xD Will definitely keep clear of them more often, last time I ran into a boar who wasn't too happy and charged me, I shot it 5 times for it to finally die xd Didn't get too much for him

So what sort of map would be best then? Is it just opinion based or is there just certain maps which the community just find to be a big no

Idk about the ATVs. They definitely seem to scare the animals quite badly but it was useful for getting around to do quests and unlock safehouses.

I'm a newbie. But on the savanna map, I usually just run around on the plains. I'll either spot some animals before they spot me, or I'll hear a warning call. If I get a warning call I crouch and use a call and try to get closer.

don't bother chasing them, just explore and find their need zones which are most commonly near water

if you have the dlc then set up a tent if you find somewhere with lots of need zones close together

Again, I'm a super newbie. But I've found that my time is best spent not actually following random tracks that you find. I wasted a lot of time that way. Just go out in the morning and try to find some need zones. And then visit those need zones at the appropriate time.

Also warning calls don't mean the animal has fled, only that they're nervous. You can use those to find animals. A lot of times I'll just run around until I hear a warning call, crouch, then walk towards it.

Alright so let's say I go to a need spot 30 minutes past opening and there's no animals nearby. What do y'all do? Just, like, sit around and wait? If I pitch a tent can I sleep for 10 minutes increments or something?

My advice will be, if you are at the beginning:

• choose a reserve you like and then visit everything you can (lookout points, interest points) (an ATV can be handy)
• in your path to ^ check all the need zones, will come in handy after
• kill everything that moves in your path also

Animals will go on rotation (drink, food, rest) so if you have a lot of need zones uncovered you can see where to camp in their path

I have the same problem occasionally. Same reserve and settings, but different results on different days. Especially in trophy lodges, my fan wants to fly away.
It's of course not normal for such an old game to heat up your gpu like this on low settings. The game is just a mess. It will most likely not damage your hardware though.
Vsync is a good idea for starters. On my machine, I have a feeling that it's worse with the load when I tab in and out of the game in fullscreened windows mode, but that's just anecdotical.

I did a similar thing with a red deer on Te Awaroa. He didn't come back to his zone either. Is there anything I can do to bring them back? Or do I just have to play the waiting game and see if I can find him again?

Just keep playing and shoot everything. Don't worry about trophies at first; those will come in time. Instead concentrate on learning the game, leveling up your skills and perks, opening up better equipment, etc. There is a fairly steep learning curve, to be sure, but it is fun!

GO spawn rate is completely random, so the best method to grind for one is to shoot every male you see.
However, if you are going for diamonds/super rares, it is easier to use Herd Management

HM is complicated and varies between species

For example moose

Shoot all the 3’s then then the 4’s then the 5’s

And leave all the 2’s

And there will be a higher chance of a diamond respawning

Walk. Do not run. Learn to be patient when travelling around the map. You’ll come across species completely by accident which usually gives you a shot opportunity.
Learn the different drink times for animals on a map and visit water whenever it’s your preferred animal’s drink time

Walk rather than run, crouch when you are about 250 meters/yards out from lakes or need zones. Follow tracks you discover and try to find the need zone (drink, rest, feeding) and be sure to activate those. Once you do, they will be on your map and you can come back at the proper time. However, most need zones are used by different animal species through out the day, so once you find one, you can visit it at other times.

So if i see a herd of "x" animals, if I shot 2-3 of them, do they respawn after a while but different levels(random)?

After you harvest an animal, they will respawn after the current day/night cycle has finished

So you won’t end up with tiny herds but you’ve gotta either pick up your kills or despawn the corpses by exiting to main menu or closing the game

It depends on which hunting style you prefer. If you wander around a lot like me The veggi skilll is very good. I think I found 50% of my rare fur types that way. For example, I know that I have a blue and a mela bobcat in New England. Now I just have to find out where they are🤪.

The .243 is a great weapon for the entire game. It's my go-to for anything 2-3, though it can do 4 as well. The 9mm is great for 4-6, then the .308 magnum for 7-9. For class one, without any DLC the best is just 'shotguns' with birdshot
