I was hosting a multiplayer game on Medved tonight and the game froze and crashed on me, which it rarely does otherwise.

This made me think, should I be worried about hackers ddos-ing me, messing with my population etc. I am on console so I assume this is not an issue?

Also, Am I stupid/naive to host multiplayer sessions for randoms? and is there any kind of behavior I should look out for? (Like, are there certain people server hopping to get something from another players save?)

Basically you shoot animals level 5 and up and leave 4 or below or for something like whitetail you would leave the 1s and small 2s for moose you would leave the 2s and 1s basically what it does is it tries to balance out the population so by leaving smaller animals it forced the game to make bigger ones spawn and makes you get a ton of diamonds and increases your chances of getting a great one

Yes for animals that max at the level 9 legendary for animals that max at 5medium such as moose you would leave the 2 minors and smaller and the trivials and for something like whitetail Wich max out at 3 very easy you would leave the 1 trivials

Depends on the species, but a generally good tip is to study their anatomy in the harvest screen.

I'd point out that the heart moves with the animations of the animals, like on pronghorn it's easier to get a broadside heart shot when the head is down (eating/drinking) because it pushes the heart back behind the front leg.

In most cases I'd be careful going for a heart shot from the front, especially with default guns since the penetration is very low in this game.

Ok, sorry for asking so much questions today (My game is weird). So, after my game crashing, I was walking around and found the rest of a wolf pack but I tried to do heart shots (failed obviously) but the thing was that the wolves did not move, even the ones I did not attack. They were only growling. It also occured to a herd of deers plus a wild boar where I shot one of them and even if they were nervous or said fleeing, they didnt move. Is it normal? Another herd behind fled though. I tried to do heart shots on some of them but not all of them. Heres some screens

best map imo is revontuli since the lakes are in flat and open areas.

with HM, you target higher-level males and leave females be unless they're occupying a 1-animal need zone.

for an explanation on why you do this, the reason is:

  • leaving behind only low-level males causes the game to balance out the average population level by spawning in higher level males. with whitetail, you leave alone level 1's and just shoot all level 2's.
  • shooting single females in 1-animal need zones causes that female to respawn elsewhere on the map and likely taking place in a herd. having an open 1-animal need zone allows males to occupy it instead, which is what you want. otherwise, that zone is a waste of space and potential.

and FYI females do not respawn as males if you kill them. they will always spawn back as females

Tbh I prefer Te Awaroa, I personally think it's better for money and I like the animals and environment more, but SRP has lots of animals and has bigger game. Te Awaroa also comes with a really good rifle tho so that's a big plus, and the storyline is one of the best imo. In the end it all comes down to what you're looking for tho.

Yeah Te Awaroa is one of my favorite maps so I might be a little biased šŸ˜… I also don't love the lakes in SRP but a lot of people swear by it. If all you've got is the .270 then Te Awaroa is a really good option but if you're willing to spend a bit more cash SRP with the modern rifles pack should work just as well if not better

There are good and bad weapons at the various class levels. the .470 is the weakest 4-8. Even if you plug a red deer in the lung expect to follow the blood trail for -quite- a while.
You're better off with the Sundberg pistol, or even a bow with a heavy arrow.

I love to hunt larger animals and Iā€™d personally recommend Yukon valley although the river is large and so are most of the lakes. Medved is good if you want to hunt moose, brown bear and reindeer. NEM is alright for moose and good for whitetail imo but is a very beautiful map to explore. These are maps that I have bought for bigger game specifically.
