If all this was after the update the moose is still on your map, you need to find it again. It is supposed to stay in his zone. But If it wasn't there, well.. supposed to be in somewhere else.
Also note:
Make sure that there’s no any tent or outpost close to the zone 300m (or 250-200 i forgot) or else the animals will disappear.

Herd management is really helpful. I remember when I grinding red deer in cuatro when GO comes out by just killing every male, and it was really hard to get diamonds. 4 weeks ago I moved to TA and used herd management method and got diamonds a lot more than classic grinding.

On average the birds up there are ~1k each

Oh, and get the Red Raptor Reflex Sight for your shotgun as early as possible. That sight is super helpful for those birds!

Herds are pretty static until you shoot them. So the animal won't drop in quality or size...
Example: I got a piebald mule deer doe in a herd near my first outpost in Parque Fernando. Ran off when I missed a shot on the herd's buck.
I'm hunting in other reserves, doing other things, and I'm confident she'll still be there When I get back to it with a proper gun.

(A 'new game' being a full reset of need zones plus character, that would of course change things.)

a .300 is decent imo, but i've not been playing much for a long time, anything that have a rating for class 8 should be okay, as that's what moose is. about the scoring as far as i know (again, not been playing much for some time and i'm not irl hunter atleast not yet) it's the same with all antler animals so deer and such is scored on their antler, you still get money and xp from females just not the score

Ok some assistance please.
I've been playing MS since I got it last year, so I'm well acquainted with the map.
I lost majority of my zones w that bug last week. I've been working on getting zones back but since the NE Mtn update, my zones are wonky. Like they're empty when they should be drinking, 30+ late to zones, etc...
I'm hunting Hogs on MS. Set time. Sat & waited in a stand; 30+min they start showing up. Warned me, then spook. Even with me on stand. (Scent eliminator doesn't work either.)
Just before typing this, at a 3-6am drink zone. Nothing there even though the zone has went active 30ish min previous. (resetting time before zones start or shutting game down & restarting doesn't seem to fix either issue.)
Is this just a MS issue or all maps???

I got the same issue on the majority of the maps which made me quit. Empty zones, animals walking in super late no matter if I set up early or set the middle of the need zone time before walking there, I always get empty or sparsely populated zones and have more luck just tracking them instead.

I could be wrong, but from what I heard animals wander between multiple zones of the same type and the way to "lock" them in is to find all/most of the need zones. The trouble is you cant "lock" them to the need zone if you can't find them.

I am going to try grabbing need zone tracks after their need zone time ends as I felt like they often leave them behind after the zone time ends to see if it fixes the empty zone issue

yes, just about anything bigger than a coyote is most likely not going to die from a hit that didn't hit any organs. If blood splatter says "nor organ hit" and blood trail shows "bleeding: very low" it will most likely not bleed out

if you're unsure, wait for a minute or two and look at the map. If the animal died, there will be a pressure zone centered on where you hit it

you probably hit a shoulder blade and the bullet failed to penetrate all the way to the organs

(that's why almost everyone seems to prefer polymer bullets to soft points, they penetrate better)

Yes that is completely possible, but to be more efficient look at when the animals will be in that zone and set it to around that time. Also if there are a lot of animals and you like the zone only kill 1 or 2 or you might delete the zone

Depends on what you are hunting. If you are hunting larger game you might want to use the .300 but for rabbits use a .22 and for other game that is in the middle use the .308 I also recommend looking at a spreadsheet and the stats of ammo to see what is best for the animal you are after.

Like the other person told you, you don’t need vitals on class 1 animals but it always helps to try and get a body shot that might hit vitals. Vitals help on level 1 animals to kill them quicker

You are welcome! Yes, on PC, you have to activate which ones you want to switch to and use at a particular time, but you can flip through them easily

First thing I would do is establish what kind of animal you want to hunt. Second look up online or on youtube where that animal spawns and make sure that your time is set to that specific time frame. Drinking zones are usually your best bet. If there isn't anything in particular you want to hunt I would just go around on foot to different lakes to see if you don't see anything usually when you run you will get animal calls from where they were either spooked or doing a mating call if you do get on I would use binoculars and crouch towards it so that it doesn't run away.
