I get to the drinking zone about a half hour early and try to find a spot about 150m away and downwind. Then I wait. I take the largest male in the group, but I don’t harvest because they’ll usually come back if you’re patient and then you can take out another.

I don’t pay attention to that. Sometimes I’ll play for a couple hours and never fire a shot. I just enjoy the scenery, lol. Time of day really matters though. I tend to like mornings a little more, and seem to do well on most maps at that time of day. Africa, however, seems more productive at noon and at night.

You can occasionally find zone tracks after they’ve left but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s much easier to set it to the drink time and spot the animals in the zone from 300 meters than run up to it as a track. Trust me, I’ve searched my maps dozens of times and this is the best way

The main differences between the 22lr and the 22ar is the round capacity and fire rate. The 22 hornet is more powerful and only has 6 shots. A tip for the 22lr is when using the Argus sight and zeroed for 150m every dot along the lower beam is 50m in drop

About a week ago I got a dm warning me to not post any more frozen or hacked animals in this server. I think he was talking about the glitch with the wolves where they are frozen in multiplayer. I am just a little confused why it is a problem now when in the past it never was. I used to see everyone shooting and posting the mountain lions, lions, and pumas when they were frozen.

If the animal dies you’d have messed up a harvest check meaning it’s trophy will go down

You’d want the animal to die slower giving you a chance to make a better follow up shot

I seem to be struggling getting a pciture of a Fallow Deer, is there some kind of bug for this? Im taking shots of deer that are right in front of me and none of them are registering, i have probably 2gb of screenshots of random fallow deer.

penetration is generally the way to go because you want an easier time having your bullet hit an organ

Basically, for new users, go with pen. That's because penetration is severely reduced in this game and you need it to actually reach organs.

However, if you know that a bullet will only be able to hit one of two lungs regardless of pen stat, that'd be a good time to use the soft points (expansion), because it provides 'more damage' to the affected orgen.

If you're sitting in a tower or in an open feald it's good to use lures but it honestly just comes down to preference. I prefer to roam around but that makes it so animals are more likely to see you or smell you which will make them run. I sometimes do a mix of both using them if an animal does some type of call.

So, uh I need some assistance on Te Awaroa. I didn't think I'd need to ask about something like this but I'm trying to knock out this story mission where I had to place four poison spreading canisters (wtf?) in the forest and then follow a foot trail to find a recurve bow.
I think the mission's called Toxicology Report?

Anyway I went to the nearby outpost and inspected the elf princess statue as instructed and fixed the sign with the posters.
The waypoint says to go inside, but nothing happens inside the cabin.

I see that there is a (blood?) stain on the floor that's leaked through the floorboards, but can't interact or spot it.

I've tried to sleep twice in the bed, also twice restarted the game. That didn't help.
Although one of the times I restarted the game I came back and the game loaded a codex entry for "Badens Blog Post" which was a somewhat imaginative story about someone going in search of 'quarry' with a bow and short blade, so I assume it's related to this quest (are all the bad guys called "Baden" in COTW maps? 🤔 )

I tried to scroll down the blog post but that jam froze my game and had to shut it off and restart again.
So am I missing something in this quest or is it just mega bugged? 🪲 🔍

Do story missions for money/xp some missions might require you to shoot animals. Always aim for vital. Buy guns that are good, and have a good range of animals. (You can check by checking the ammo for the gun, for instance buy something that goes from 4-8.)

On the Finland map, there is a swamp area in the north east corner. It has a bunch of small puddles they drink from and lots of herds go there.

What you should know is that the animal distribution on that map was shifted recently and now the Blacktail spawns further to the East than before.

I can tell you from experience the mission was already difficult to complete even before this because of uneven animal distribution on individual maps.

I believe many people are having the same problem as you so the first thing I'd do is report it via the supplied links at #📜︴support .

My preferences and playstyle go against most of what people recommend. One huge difference is that I do not hunt drink-zones, only feed-zones and rest-zones.

I also don’t really use the most popular weapons.

I also only run when I either know that I won’t spook any animals, and when I don’t care about spooking the nearby ones (that could be running a little bit between tracks to check them out or running towards a dead animal and just having fired a shot with a rifle)

so I usually don’t run for long distances unless I’m not hunting and I just want to get to somewhere

oh, and I use Soft-Points and other ammunition that has higher expansion, on all weapons except the .223 Docent, for that one I use the Polymer-Tips for most class 2 animals

@maiden nebula , I got a lot of Coyotes around the little lake just southwestish of the hiking village, the trick is that you have to settle for night hunting, see the coyotes drink from midnight to 4:30am or so. So my tip is: Late at night, find a spot around the lake where you're -perfectly- hidden in bushes, and the wind pushes your scent away from the lake.

Then wait, binocs out, around 12:45 am to 1am they should show up to drink, you might even hear a yip as they approach.

Don't be too quick to use the jackrabbit lure, I find coyotes are a bit unpredictable when using that lure (aka they try to get downwind). Though I've had success when the wind pushed my scent towards something impassable (directly to a lake when I was perfectly hidden on the edge, say.)

To see trophys you need to have a DLC for a hunting lodge. Only within the lodge can you set your taxidermized animals, or check through your saved animals which to taxi.

It costs a good deal of in-game money 'E' to taxidermize animals. (not to mention a bit of real dough to get the DLC)
But for a more experienced hunter, it's worth it to showcase your favorite animals in a variety of poses, especially when you get a very rare kind, like Albino pelts or Diamond-class antlers...

Albino and piebalds are very rare pelts. To give you an idea I've played for nearly 200 hours (a lot of them still learning the ropes), and only managed to hunt two albinos, two piebalds so far. If I've seen a melanistic, I must've missed it.

depends on what kind of deer

for medium-to-large deer like whitetail, blacktail, red deer, reindeer, etc. .308 is one of the best weapons
for smaller deer like axis deer, roe deer, etc. .308 will be overpowered
for things larger than red deer (i.e. elk and moose), .308 can take them, but it will struggle on them. and it cannot take anything larger than that without ruining the trophy

You have to buy them from the store, equip them in the cache, assign them a spot in your inventory and then use the dog wheel to feed him

The best way of hunting them is having 20ish decoys (of the correct species), a tripod and the correct caller

If you have 20 decoys of the correct species, they should eventually land if not spooked. Remember to stay hidden and keep in mind that the geese have a sense of smell (yes actually).

the DLC 20G Streckers is not horrible. Imo it is the best firing shotgun for small game because it has a constricted chocke compared to other shotguns, but the disadvantage is only having 2 shells.

I just started playing and I wonder how I even find animals? I guess running around trying to find isn't the best tactic... I've seen 5 animals in the last 2 hours.

If you run you'll spook everything within 200m or so, and your typical line-of-sight is 100m or less depending on the forest. So yeah, you're spooking everything.
Trick 1: walk, don't run.
Trick 2: keep an eye on 'need zones', areas where animals feed, rest or drink. If you can hide in a bush at the right times, you can usually see them walk right on over.
Trick 3: walking in bushes makes more noise (until you unlock certain skills) so crouch-walk through bushes and plants instead. Also, learn to hide, watch that visibility meter and wind direction.

'drink times' around lakes are especially grand, have a peek at A-A-Ron's spreadsheets in the pin, it's good. And I made myself this kind of sheet, by using the fandom wiki.

Oh, put your first few skill points in 'locate tracks'. It's... just essential to raise your range to spot tracks.

Oh, good to know: when you fast-travel, it spooks all animals within 250m or so of arrival.
And drink times aren't perfect, an animal pack may take a half hour to an hour and half to arrive at a need zone. (But you noticed that already)
