It really depends on what you hunt, with no DLCs the Ranger .243 and the Whitlock Model 86 are both covering the class 2 to 6, same accuracy but the Whitlock have more penetration at the cost of less range

Same thing between the .270 (class 4-8) less penetration more range and the Coachmate Lever .45-70 (class 4-9) more penetration less range, both same accuracy

I would say that the 7mm is the more polyvalent since you got the penetration of the Coachmate with the range of the .270 and it covers class 4 to 9 but you lose a bit of accuracy

One of the best dlc for start is high caliber I think

Don’t sleep on the ambusher pack, imo the Moradi is the best gun in the game, 70 of penetration it’s just crazy plus you can equip the mini red dot on it, and there is also the telemetric sight for the bow in this pack, No need to add that there is also the electronic caller that allows you to call almost all the animals in the game from the beginning without having to grind the lvl, ideal for a beginner

It's hard to think about the usefulness of dlc when I already bought 80% of them a long time ago

For me personally, the most useful things are tents and night vision binoculars.

I use tents as a portable outpost I carry around everywhere

partly because the game sends you to iirc the nearest outpost when you exit, so I tend to slap down a tent as a checkpoint whenever I'm halfway through walking to somewhere in-game and irl stuff comes calling

That’s the exact reason why I don’t use them, I know my way of playing may seem strange but I try to play in the most realistic way possible, so the idea of having a complete armory on my back as well as a kennel and a garage breaks my immersion, I never leave the game without being at an outpost so that my progress is consistent and I never use the fast travel
