at 1:45 AM irl, i saw a red deer with the biggest antlers i’ve seen on any animal in game or irl. they were even larger than a gold trophy moose’s antlers, they reached halfway down his body. i’m certain he would be gold if not diamond.

i tried to get a shot on him, but i messed up and didn’t hit any organs. i also only had soft point ammo on me (was hunting roe deer earlier), so it was nearly impossible to hit a vital organ with how big he was, and if i stopped to return to an outpost, i was afraid i’d lose the tracks.

so i got to stalking, following him for what felt like an eternity, trying to get close enough that i could hit him with a shotgun slug (the only decent ammo i had on me). but even with scent remover, he seemed to smell me every time i got within 50m.

it is now 5:10 AM.

i give up.

i did get some amazing pictures of him with his herd tho. he was surrounded by does, save for a single buck with normally sized antlers that looked pathetic in comparison to his. his antlers more closely resembled tree branches, and i’m not sure how he was able to hold his head up. according to his tracks, he weighed about 210-240 kg.

today i was milling around in hirschfelden, seeing if i could shoot anything else while waiting for the antler king to return to his known feed zone at 17:00. it was about 10:00 in game. i saw a small group of four red deer does cuddling below a tree, and was slowly creeping up to them to see if i could shoot one. they noticed me and started mewing for help. i noticed a fifth shape moving in the shrubbery, and as it came into view, i noticed it was none other than the antler king himself, 1km away from the feed zone i first saw him at. his does had called him to protect them. his status almost immediately went from Attentive to Alarmed, then to Fleeing. and somehow, some way, i pulled my gun out in time and shot him just before he bolted. he didn’t act injured as he fled, and i feared it would be just like last time as i approached the place where he had been shot. i almost squealed when i saw it - a huge puddle of blood where he had been standing, “Just now, Vital organ hit”. i followed the blood trail about a hundred meters, and there i saw him. finally mine, by complete accident, after spending two real-life hours stalking him the previous night. good game, antler king. you played well.
