A lot of it as a beginner is luck with initial spawns, knowing how to get in range of an animal without spooking it, and making clean vital shots with the correct ammo

It can be yes. RNG is involved so you could get anything as a respawn but it's likely you'll get a level 2-4 off it. You keep hunting down the big ones, you'll get your larger ones naturally

Could always set up a simple fallow grind on Te Awaroa. Some of the zones have outposts near them that you can use instead of tents. Yeah, it'd be slower but it will work (that's how I managed to get my own and only G1 fallow)

Considering it has come to light that this is a mp only bug (note my previous comments on what is likely causing it), the game being peer to peer makes multiplayer bugs and fixes a lot more tedious and inconsistent. More chances to completely break multiplayer entirely vs fix the issue they are attempting to address. As much as the dogs are great to have and extremely useful, it is not game breaking when the issue isn't present on single player. Annoying still? Absolutely. But it's also a more complex issue to solve in a game that's 9 years old and uses an old system
