Ironically, .45-70, the only other cartridge that can be fired from rifles and pistols, has excellent ballistics at all ranges, and even the handgun zeroes at 200m.

Nope, I mean when accounting for zero. This is 150m using a 50 yard zero on both the .44 revolver and .44 lever action, fired at a 150m target. The lever action is on top.

Parabolics are a thing in the game, and the weapons with short zeroes are actually shooting in an arc to reach longer ranges. So for example if a handgun has a 25m, 50m and 75m zero, even though 50m is the default zero, the bullet is still actively falling at that range, and that's reflected in shots beyond that range. It makes trying to utilize most handguns at long range a real headache.

But no, the reason why Moradi at 50m zero and The Panther at 50m zero aren't making sense, is because 50m for the Moradi is it's short zero, and for the Panther, 50m is the default zero.

Default zero for the Moradi is 100m, and it's long range zero is 150m.

The Moradi is essentially shooting low to hit 50m square on, but because the round has relatively flat trajectories, at 100m, the rifle's default zero, it's still closer to the bullseye.

You could consider this a velocity thing, though I think it's more about parabolics than actual bullet speed. I don't know that the game is coded to manage speeds that finely, but I do know that it accounts for projectile travel quite well.

Sidenote, zeroing the .454 for 300m? Gigantic pain in the backside. 3/10 long range caliber. Do not recommend. It's knockdown is greatly diminished too.

I've already zeroed it for everything up to 350m. the 300m zero is 2/3rds down from the second mildot (first mildot being crosshair) when set to 50m zero when using max zoom with the scope

it also shares its zeroes with .357, but notably, not .44

Yeah I've got the Defender dialed in pretty well, with each mil-dot on my range card representing 75m of drop.

Using that and the zeroes i can dynamically fine tune it for more accurate shooting. Me gusta.

Practice with the .22lr, iron sights, and you'll find shooting birds out of the air in general at 80-200m is shockingly easy.

It's honestly not very fun like this, tbh. there's not any challenge whatsoever in shooting a stationary goose at 10 yards. I might as well be setting up a punt gun

when I was shooting geese overhead and bagging them at 102m with the pump action, it was a different story

the problem is that geese fly just out of reach to make that kind of shooting reliable, which is a real shame as it's the only kind of goose hunting with any sport to it

bow hunting is weird because in some ways it is flat out easier than using a gun, and in some ways its harder. the bow is such an incredibly useful tool for pushing the envelope and taking one last trophy in a near dead-zone, but it is ludicrously powerful in its own way

The animals spook a lot easier I wouldn't say you can run n gun as much. But I feel like animals are more responsive to callers and their spook with bows is negligible. So you sit on a rock and delete an entire herd.

when CotW is most fun is when you're just stomping through the forest and adventuring, and it's kinda a shame imo that the later game ends up with you leaning heavily into baiting and lures rather than that kind of safari approach

like the one weapon DLC they added I actually care about is the lever action and .416 double gun

also they seem to be not-so-subtly heavily funded by remington, which, no offense to remington but the last gun they made that I really liked was the 1858 or (potentially their knock-off auto-5)

You get the hang of it. Make sure you look at xray view on all yoir harvests to see where you shot vs where you were aiming to make adjustments for your next shot. Very quickly you know exactly where to aim to hit anywhere youd like

Each animal has a medal rating, bronze, silver, gold, and diamond. Diamonds are trophies that are very rare to just commonly see. You can control your diamond population though through herd management. Thats a while nother topic tho

You get a lodge, i would recommend saseka safari for the dlc ones, and you place your trophies in there for free

And you can make multimounts with in-game money

@azure crag I tested giddins .410 shotgun on foxes (its intended class of 2-3 with buckshot) and it barely can kill a fox at reasonable range.

It ran for good 150+ meters after this shot at 50m. Really makes no sense.

Even if .410 is a small gauge, it would absolutely obliterate a fox irl at 50 meters / yards in the face.

I think this i the case with ALL gauges shotgun buckshots against any animal for its intended class.

He doesn't like Mules because Fallow was his first grind and he got insanely lucky on initial spawns. Compared to Fallow Mules are a much harder grind in general, but as far as grinds across the board go, still very good.

That said, I don't know that Askiy will be the best experience, but you can certainly give it a shot.
