There's a perk where you can change the zeroing range on your weapon. ie the range where your crosshair matches where the bullet will hit

In other news I ended up putting the .243 back on my loadout as a joke and ended up liking it. Turns out smacking deer beyond 300m without spooking their herd is worth the extra meters needed to chase them. I'm just surprised the soft point ammo holds up at these ranges.

Cyclone is a challenge, and it's benefits only really compliment a specific style of play. If genociding an entire herd of Fallow from 200-300m without them spooking isn't what you're after, the downsides just aren't worth it. Only if you're shooting class 4 animals and you can't get a good broadside. HP rounds have a habit of seemingly bouncing off of flesh if you hit the target at an angle, but will penetrate if you hit dead on. If the target is angled toward or away from you the penetrating rounds will get you that single lung, but if it's broadside, the HP rounds will get you that single lung while dropping it as if it were double lunged. I use the HP rounds more often than the Pen rounds.

Doesn't hurt that both of them are cheap AF.

Here's a perfect example of just how much angles can mess with HP rounds, using the .243

As for the Cyclone's relative silence being a niche affair, you're absolutely right. Especially for hunting something like fox, which only show up in pairs to begin with, removing the need for stealth in the first place if you are used to taking quick follow ups. What I like about the Cyclone is the ability to indiscriminately hunt alongside the .22lr.

I can shoot a turkey from 150m with the .22lr that's 20m from a whitetail and the whitetail won't spook. Likewise, I can reverse the order of the hunt and shoot the whitetail first with the .45, without spooking the turkey. The ability to, for the most part, hunt indiscriminately for multiple species without spooking peripheral targets I may not see yet, is worth the extra bit of work needed to make the Cyclone work.

All that said, if I end up nailing 200m shots consistently with the crossbow, I may change my name. So far I've only got it zeroed in for 150m max.

Yup, it's an issue of arrow drop. The arrows need to be aimed so high in the range they end up smacking the overhead range structure. I may try the actual archery range though, never visited it.

Also, for the Cyclone, try the Hyperion at 7x zoom, last mil-dot on Mil-Dot 02. You'll bullseye at 300m.

Yeah, so scope brand and crosshair choice can actually impact how you perceive bullet drop.

The Hyperion 4-8x and the Angler 4-8x will give you a very different experience if you swap them and try aiming the same way.

For example, the Cyclone can bullseye at 300m with a 4th Mil-Dot hold at 7x zoom, but trying the same setup with the Angler at 7x Zoom will result in your shots landing as if you were in 8x zoom with the Hyperion, due to the scopes having different diameters. It's really annoying.

Thankfully 8x zoom with Hyperion and 8x Zoom with Argus is essentially identical.

The only benefit to the Virant is more mag capacity. If I found myself in need of a 10rd mag I'd swap, because the Virant looks better, but the Zarza has better recoil which makes a different when shooting birds in flight at long range. I said it earlier, there is an argument to be made that extra rounds makes up for recoil, but I'm not a fan of bullet spam. If I don't get my targets in 5 rounds I don't deserve to get them at all.

It also has better reload but that's irrelevant to me specifically.

And finally, though I'm fairly certain it's just placebo, the Zarza sounds quieter. I don't think it actually is, but I prefer it's acoustics.

I'm not positive if the ballistics itself are different or not. Some rifles with the same calibers, like the .300 Arzyna and Canning, have different parabolics. It's possible the Defender does too, though I'm not sure. Taking shots beyond 300m with a .22lr rifle requires significant adjustment, and with the handgun you'd need to aim so high the target isn't in scope anymore. What's worse, using zoom to adjust perspective doesn't help, you end up uncomfortably high or low.

Look at the weapon scores for my .45 kills. Range and shot placement are nearly identical, but the class 3 was dropped almost instantly and resulted in a better score. But the frost has awful accuracy, and the reaper is a pound heavier, and both have smaller magazines
