Sorry for the delayed response. For class 5 animals I prefer the smaller calibers, .243, .257, .270 and recently the 30-30 is fun due to it's "heavy" parabolics.

I have confirmed that the .243 will not usually spook at 300m+, but if the herd is closely lumped together they occasionally will. I've also noticed that the sound radius of a rifle is somewhat directed; I shot a Fox with the .243 that was 300m away, and the Sika Deer that were only 230m from me, but about 100m to the right of the fox, became Attentive without spooking and settled down quickly.

I'm still playing with sound profiles and trying to figure out which gunpowder rifles I prefer, but my choices are based on weight, loudness and ballistic parabolics rather than penetration or instant kill potential. I'm shooting critters at 300-400m, I'm already making a trip to get them so an additional potential 100m of tracking is no biggie.

Yeah, so Dead Zones won't necessarily stop animals from passing through, and it's possible feeders could even attract herds into them if there's a need zone still active just outside of the dead zone itself. I haven't tested that though so I'm not sure. But like the other fella said, you can set up a goose/duck hunting zone and force your hunting pressure into one spot by mass culling them.

It's ability to single lung anything at 400m, and shoot an exceptionally flat trajectory, makes it a good choice over the .375 only if you're firing at long range. If you're firing within the rifles' zeroing ranges then there's little difference.

Yeah if you're looking for a rifle meant to instakill a moose at 150m it isn't gonna be the one you want. If you're looking for a rifle that fires like a laser beam out to any range, the .300 does it better than any other rifle.

Layton is a map where I had a horrible habit of obsessively tracking the whitetail and their routes without actually shooting them. These deer have been alive for a year or more but I spot and tracked them routinely every time I went into the map for Turkey, or to check on their herds when I was swapping their populations around.

Sadly I didn't quite understand what I was doing when I started, so now I have herds of all-male whitetail and that makes them really difficult to hunt because without 2 females in a herd to keep it from getting broken, I'm hesitant to hunt them at all. Now I need to re-doe a few of them. 😆

I decided "Oh well, might as well go track em and maybe get another shot in" and im trackin, and trackin, then i hear howls and I am like "Eh, half the time the wolves dont do anything, and they just get scared" I keep tracking until i see the caribou about 100 yards away. I pull up the 270 and I hear growling "Heeelll nah" i turn around, pull out the 10 g sa and I see nothin. I shoot the caribou with the 270, i killed em with a lung shot, and I head back to my cabin and out of nowhere i get cooked by a wolf with 1 hit (i was low cause i got in a fight with bison before hand). I literally shat myself i was so scared.

The .7mm and 45-70 aren't really upgrades or downgrades from one another. The .7mm shoots extremely flat and is capable of easy, long range shots out to render distance. The 45-70 is a heavy round intended for short to medium range engagements, but with some practice can reach out to 300-400m and single-lung class 8-9 animals.

If you like the 7mm but are struggling to handle class 7-8 animals at 300m+, the .375 or .300 will be an upgrade for those animals specifically. If you're looking at weapons for class 4-6 animals, there's not much room for improvement beyond the 7mm, everything capable of ethically killing class 4-6 will perform pretty similarly at best.

PS5 seems pretty reliable but the new controllers don't last like the PS4 ones. I had the same set of PS4 controllers for over a decade and when I gave my PS4 to a friend she got the controllers too, still kicking.

If you're shooting large game at close range the best rifle isn't a rifle, it's the crossbow.

If you're looking for long range the .470 Nitro has 100 penetration and is exclusively used for class 9.

It's not particularly fast, but it's enough that with some decent aim you should be able to down another 2-4 before they get outside of reasonable shooting range. Bison are dumb and slow.

And big. Bad combo for them.

But if you want to drop your engagement range to 100m, you can pretty easily manage class 9s with a crossbow and it will drop them where they stand on frontal shots, because the bolt will pierce basically everything in it's path. Arrows from bows are equally or more devastating, but more challenging at longer ranges.

Nothing I can think of off the top of my head, at least for class 9 animals. maybe the modernized .50cal muzzleloader, if it's rated for class 9, but it's single shot and I haven't tested it on class 9 or even know if it's rated for them.

You're not going to find anything that can really put bison down like they're whitetail, at long range. Part of the challenge of class 9s is their resilience, because their size, slowness and stupidity makes them too easy otherwise.

The simplest and cheapest method is an E-Caller set 50m from a tripod or blind, and a tent for traveling quickly to your zone, but the tent isn't strictly necessary. Set the caller to call in the geese and flocks of 7-10 will come in every 2min or so. Use the 12ga, 6rd pump or the 10ga semi auto and you can often kill 2-4 geese in your first shot. Then follow up and wipe another 2-4, so that's 4-8 geese every 2min or so for about 1k per goose.

If you have Salzwiesen Park, you can call in two goose species at once and double the amount coming in, resulting in more kills on average per minute.
