The .243 is only mediocre if you stick to the free ammo and try to use it at long range. It's Polymer ammo is a huge upgrade and makes it viable for quite a distance. It's also pretty quiet as far as gunpowder rifles go.

Speaking of Bison, the 45-70 is a really weird round. I confirmed it could take moose at 300m no problem but expected class 9s to be problematic. Nope, the 45-70 Handgun will take Bison too, at 300m, without hesitation. Super weird ballistics, it doesn't penetrate very well but somehow still manages even well outside it's effective range. Must be because the round is so large it holds its energy well.

I know it will retrieve all class 1s, but i specified practical use because waterfowl are most often the most annoying to retrieve yourself due to being in water. The dogs can swim, we can't. For all land based, class 1 animals, collecting them yourself is usually non-issue.

Scotland has a TON of vantage for you to exploit. Look for need zones and set up a few feeders in different areas around the need zones. You'll keep them there and can hunt them from atop a hill, in a blind or tripod, easily.

That's one aspect of it, though for class 2-4 I use the .45 air rifle which won't spook within 150m. Each rifle has a different sound profile and some spook further than others. Anything much larger than a .243 will spook at 300m, with a few exceptions.

Yeah not a great weapon choice for new players. The Zarza series of weapons have superior performance over other rifles but reduced mag size, so they require more skill. Virant for example has worse recoil and reload than the Zarza-15 but double the mag capacity. I find 5 rounds to be plenty so I prefer the superior performance of the Zarza, but if you're not regularly landing good shots, those extra 5 rounds in the Virant go a long way.

Need Zones fluctuate and are not the same on every map. A spot that's perfect for someone else's map might be completely empty or nearly so, on yours. So instead of copying what a YT guide does, apply that information to the most relevant spot to your map. Which will require you to do some scouting.

I recommend finding all your drink zones for boar in general, and then place the feeders to cover roughly the entire bottom third of the map , try to visualise the 400m radius they’ll capture

Boars drinking , feeding , resting or travelling through that radius can come to the feeder

Finding multiple need zones for different herds and placing your feeder in the area that best attracts all of those need zoned herds, will likely be the most successful setup. The trick will be finding need zones and confirming they belong to multiple herds, while also being within an acceptable radius. Good luck!

You know what pisses me off about trophy hunting? I actively go out of my way to hunt and HM small game, and only shoot large game either to confirm ballistics or if I happen to wander into a rare or diamond.

Yeah two zones isn't big. You're going to have times where there are no boar there. They key I've found with boars and feeders is to be patient. Do not move your feeders just because of a couple empty instances. Day and night cycle feeds are not the same so you've got different herds that come in. If you go two full days with none? That's a dead feeder

Tbh I think Retriever on it's own is bad compared to pointer or tracker on their own, but paired with either it's okay. Definitely prefer the tracker, but I also hunt from extreme range so I benefit quite a lot from it compared to retriever.

how explain this, an animal that doesn't exist was introduced into the game; it's extremely rare, possibly only one or two per map. Almost nothing is known about its behavior, and what has been discovered is thanks to the community.

anyways with my map recommendations i chose sundarpatan for it's unique animals and experience overall, te awaroa for it's ability to do your first and easiest great one grinds , red deer or fallow

salz is only small game, so it may be a bit frustrating
Mississippi is a fun map but dense. very dense
New england mountains , beautiful.. dense.. , lots of species, but it's a map that doesn't have any exclusive species and didn't introduce any new ones other

Hey, on Saturday a friend of mine started playing COTW and we decided to play Vuronga. In his game, we found a legendary 9 Lion. I hunted it since he was new and didn't have the weapons to hunt it. It was diamond. The luck he had was insane, but of course he didn't have the money to taxidermy it, so since I had hunted it, he left it with me. And then, about three hunts later, I remembered that the save piece button exists. I felt terrible. 💔

I always use a 4-8 (308 moonlight for me) for integrity as rares can be exceptionally tricky to spot

A 7-9 like the 300 would get the job done quicker (losing out on integrity) but if you aim right with a 4-8 they’ll drop fast anyways

150m is my hard max range for shooting but I usually sit at around 170m

With a bit of practice you can nail 300m shots on a boar with an 8x! Keep using it and you'll grow accustomed to it.
