Yeah absolutely Layton was built to be challenging but forgiving, if you spook a herd of white tail, there's always another herd within 500 meters of ya, plenty of clear fields, plenty of predictable places to look, the only thing you can do to get better at Layton is play Layton, know the map, know the schedules.

Worst case scenario it'll be roughly the same as when you started, best case scenario they start edging towards higher level and you spot a diamond. There are methods to grind out a species and encourage high quality results, but RNG is still largely in control, so go wild if you're not trying to stack an entire herd with diamonds.

I would make sure you harvest every kill though, I'm not positive but I believe killing an animal without harvesting it can negatively impact the chances of a Great One spawning, if that species can spawn one.

I'm not sure, honestly. I get why shotguns suck beyond point blank range in pvp shooters, but in hunting games their ballistics should be accurate to real life. Not penetrating a Roe Deer at 15m is criminal. I think the devs want us to tie a string to the trigger, put the shotgun in the new feeders, and then wait patiently for them to eat the shotgun before yanking the string and, maybe, if we fire the shotgun from inside the deer, we can get a vital. 💀

Or it could just be that they expect the buckshot to be used as a trauma weapon without much chance for vitals, but that makes it impractical for trophy hunting and only really good for culling. Which, to be fair, has been reason enough for me to keep a few dozen buckshot shells on me when running my .10ga.

It's statted to be a close range weapon, with an effective range on par with a .22... but the practicality of a rifle with the same realistic range as a crossbow/bow is questionable for sure. That said, it is a neat choice for stand hunting or for dropping aggressive animals. Way too expensive for what it does though. I wonder if it can be used to hunt moose at 100m if the shot is right...

Right? I tried at close range as well to see if it had serious penetration and... not really. It seems like it just retains it's "just enough" power really well. It's bullet trajectory is incredibly flat though, even at 300m you really don't need to adjust to hit the target in the range...

But the inability to equip a scope kind of makes shots like that a challenge.

I got the dogs, 4x4 and high caliber weapon pack

whats the best weapon in the modern rifles dlc?

to hunt moose

Tho it will kill a moose with integrity I’d still recommend a 7-9 rifle for hunting moose and elk , otherwise the 308 is really nice

The 308 is a 4-8 rifle so will cover most deer aside from roe deer , musk deer.. With them you can use the 223 which is 2-4 but I honestly find it underpowered especially for class 3 critters ..

And also

If you spot the animal with your binoculars, it will give you a marker for where you spotted it on your map

And that way you can go to the marker to see if you hit it
