#Items with low range should give some defensive bonuses

I think the idea with these items is you're supposed to combine them with items that give sustain
which ofc doesn't change the fact that defiant plate gives you both sustainn and damage (pretty good damage at that, although prolly not sufficient without thornfists or smth)
Defiant Plate gives way too much sustain though compared to a lot of other items.
So it's hard to pass that up.
I'm not sure that's necessarily true tbh
I mean it's probably the best chest armor if you're going for a retaliation build, but I've been able to get just as immortal with block-based shieldmaiden for example (plate armor, plate boots, helmet, fencing gauntlets)
static threads are a different item slot so the balance considerations are different for them (notably they don't have to compete with defiant plate)
they also don't require you to take damage in order to function, so with enough speed/sustain you can use them safely
theres maybe an argument to be made that blazing shell (specifically heat stroke, since that one only works on damage taken) is too weak, but I haven't actually tested it, maybe applying 2 burn stacks in a big aoe per damage taken is actually really strong, but elemental effects don't seem particularly strong in general rn imo
From my experience with ~6 artifacts, frost and burn are quite strong while spark is somewhat underwhelming.
I might actually try exterminator with heat stroke blazing shell and pickup gloves 🤔
but yeag that checks out I think, although I'm not sure about frost, I feel like that p much requires you to have a damage source that does a lot per hit, even if the actual dps of it is low (like landsknecht/cleric thornfists overcrit or smth)
so weirdly enough ig norseman is the worst at using frost?
ah, I misremembered the frost mechanics
frost area scales with highest dmg instance (which means that single instances of very high damage can clear the entire screen when proccing frost explosions), but frost damage only scales with stacks and the damage only happens on death or on reaching 20 stacks
so yes on account of having a high attack speed the norseman is good at applying frost
