So because death must die has a system like that, other similar games should too? I'd probably not bother playing if the item pool got littered with random items, no planning would save you.
And perhaps if obtaining every piece of gear is your only task in games, it's time to move on. Or find new goals for yourself.

I do not expect such system, probably something simplified
Limiting only to unique items hurts the replayability of game and flexability of builds
Yes, you can play with traits and skills but not much more
Lets say you want to stack max hp. Can you ? No, you can't, only piece of gear that gives you life is chest
But with generic random items you could stack %life/flat life one every item
Same thing with force and other statistics

I do like collecting gear with random modifiers but only similar to POE. Where the modifiers are largely known and the random is just the range of values they offer. I would enjoy a little enchanting in this game. Customize gear a little. Can't say I'm keen on straight up RNG collecting gear. That sounds aweful.
perhaps this could be alleviated with (maybe purchasable) upgrade "items have 50% chance to have X stat"

didnt play for a while but have you tried warlock defence stacking? or maiden block stacking? impossible to die with warlock + some unique items and you are a beast after few minutes... imagine if I could stack more of same stat from such random gear... that would throw most builds out of the window bcs stacking just one powerful stat combining "common gear" with Uniques would totaly wreck the games balance
I was askin for a bottle to blockabilities already... and not just me... too many times I get what I am not aiming for even when used all 3 rerolls and discarded several scrolls and yes I had lvl for them and still didnt roll what i intended so I had to reroll to make my idea real but rng is cringe in such moments
would be also nice to block abilities before/at the start of the run.. .like when you pick the first ability from the BOOK but would also have to block 3 other abilities depending on how many you have unlocked.. like block 3 if you have 10 unlocked block 2 if 7 etc.

All you can 'stack' is wear +defense armor and pick some +defense traits, that is all.

Mara tried to make it different and make it harder but community was not happy about it and now it's just 'fun' game like other in this genre.

how about you reply after you try it then ? 🙂 and yes stacking of stats means by any source possible and already warlock gains defence every level right? + all the gear/traits for defence + all for regeneration it doesn't rly matter how hard you make the game he just cant die if you make him right even bosses do little to no dmg and gives me more regeneration as they hit me and I had like 250hp and could not die on any map once I stacked enough... maiden is not that tanky but with nearly 300 block chance there wasn't an attack other then standing INSIDE and enemy such as boss or viaduct ghost wall or ground stuff like fire that could even deal dmg to me... except standing in boss he did like 50% of my hp before dying to dmg from abilities... I would love an endless agony mode but if I were to go with warlock this way he would not be able to die until he uses up all upgrades there are i guess...

I was playing this type of games most likely before you were born and I dont need to play this game long to see how to make it better or where its problems are thy

Its obviously about a choice wich the game gives us and also not everyone see the game as "bigger number better gamer" I play Tons of PoE so minmaxing is my second nature how ever this game didnt lure me in so much that I would put into it any more effort or time to even begin to min max... Obviously I blindly stack one thing the character (warlock in this case) is good at and it already works too well if Id get rare items with random mods and got enough defence then even an endless mode could become broken... I dont even know if there is ceiling for this stat other then LVL cup + avalibile items... given more items and/or higher max lvlv could break the game even in endless agony since you'd render your self unable to take more dmg per sec then any number of enemies can muster against your defence combined with regen.. wich with right items can be insane too.. never stacked it too high bcs defence was enough to handle anything so far but if Id try I bet I could use Shepherd's Boon with astronomers orbs + some items + traits to make regen awfully broken too...

sounds fun but unfortunately I have others things to attend to and other games to play with friends so I played this alot only when I was sick and now Id rather put my time into other games and return to this awesome gem after I am done with them 🙂 also cant wait what else changes once I will look into this game again after some time so far I love the style music and everything 🙂 thy for psoting that link

Current endgame is not about surviving, it's about breaking mechanics and achieving highest number, as Tazza linked, you even have leaderboards for different categories

Devs will add some kind of shrine that will allow you to make game more challenging, probably much much more. So there will be more than enough room for additional itemization and 'stacking'

- yes and the shrine will be either debuffs or endless or both right? 🙂 but if its just debuffs It better be rly big ones bcs the stacking I was talking about here works too well and in an endless it could be broken rly hard

I played this type of games way before this one were even being made so I dont know whats your point 🙂 mine is that items like you mentioned are stupid OP for current state of the game and unless something radically changes its still gonna be and thats why I dont think nobody rly wants the game to be like that probably not even devs do no matter the way you try to spin it or justify it... But I'm sure, it is good idea, it will not hurt, it will make game only better and it will need to be considered by devs at some point.
After all, they are doing diablo-like vampire survivors game, how can it exist without randomized loot...
I like the fixed item system of HoT. Sure, it hurts replayability, but what we get in exchange is a more curated gameplay experience. More constraints force players to think outside the box and get creative with the limitations they're dealt. And it eliminates reliance on RNG to determine your build, which means at least at the meta level, you're dealt the same hand as everyone else.
If games like DMD have procedural item generation, and you like that, that's perfectly fine with me, but that's simply not HoT. Not always can you have the best of both worlds.

I agree that fixed items is part of HoT identity, I feel the same, but also I feel restricted but relatively small item pool. That is why I proposed only very basic affixes like life or force, all the unique interactions would still be locked only for unique items.
Don't you fell like all loadouts on all characters look basically the same if you are not going for specific challenge ?
You wear Mask of Madness + Holy Relic + Warrior's Fervour combo and that is your build, the rest of slots doesn't even matter... there are some exceptions ofc. How can you think outside the box and be creative if you have no tools for it ?
At this point I'm starting realizing that maybe I'm expecting too much...
This is just a simple game, should be fun and easy, such depth maybe is not necessary

Perhaps you should visit your own creativity if you think HR + WF is a must-take combo. I never wear WF and rarely wear HR. Perhaps there is stronger stuff you could look at?

What I am saying is, this combo is optimal for most situations, in terms of offense/defense/QoL
I wouldnt mind random additional variable bonus stats on items that drop that you cant exfil with
