like defense, it would also modify the damage only after the hit went through
If this happened, which I'm not sure I want, I'd want fragile to affect block rates. Otherwise there's no reason to run defense late game.
oh, now that i'm not mid-run and actually can think properly... yeah that makes sense. since you already got hit before, try avoiding more.
