#Discard Treasure reward

After you've retrieved all items and you purchased them from the Well Keeper, Treasure Chests become redundant.

I believe you should think of a way to reward the player for discarding the treasure chest's loot some other way.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Add items that you can only find from chest (meh?)
    or
  2. Allow us to upgrade a selected equipped item to Tier 2 (this sounds fun and like the best option, but requires more work, that is to add a second tier to each item. This option could be unlocked through a new rescued NPC)
    or
  3. Give the player XP and/or Gold and/or Full HP heal and/or Revive charge or a Bonus Trait (free lvlup) if he gives up on the treasure.

I love the current mechanic of unlocking gear and being able to gear up however you want in your subsequent runs, but turns out it makes treasure chests redundant once you have everything unlocked.

The chests are still useful even after you unlocked everything. Revive ring can be useful for most builds, I also like to equip the range glove for a sec to suck in all the xp then back to my normal gloves. Dmg amulet also better if you have low hp which can be switched on off based on the situation.

That said, im not against your suggestion, but they are not redundant entirely.

The Tier 2 item idea sounds good. I think it should only be for that run, though. And either it should be obtaining duplicates has some increased effect, or special combos to create combo items that have a new, unique effect. Like if you have the firewalker boots, and find the septic boots, you could combine them to make lava boots, which drops pools of lava that burn and slow enemies. You're right that this would require additional effort and creativity, but I think it would keep gearing relevant.
