As a player whom love to upgrade and tinker with items and builds - i feel like there should be a way for us to use our gold or resources to trade for other materials that requires us to upgrade items such as the red an blue gem
Currently the trader only does wood stone and iron

Could we please have more options to trade with

also - a trinket shop to start our run with like in HoH1 especially if we want to "Target" a certain build for our runs

Many thanks - keep up the great work ppl!

scraping blue items would be ideal

run to dark citadel in ng0, activate 4 pillars, collect all trinkets, abandon run. average 29 blue gems every 3 minutes

i could much more see a disenchant merchant that can give blue crystals and maybe even some red crystals (at a chance). where numbers and chance increase depending on item level

#

thats good game design and not suggesting a cheesy farm route

I do agree. but the lack of resources is what makes crafting perfect pieces hard/something to work towards

either disenchanter/shop or increase in mat drops at higher ng+ can be a solution

Experience scrolls could also give blue gems if you're level capped. Would still give them some sort of purpose when you're no longer able to level at that moment.

If not a trader in town, in a run, have an trader option include enchanting mats. Sure, it will suck when they want the mats, but if I'm hurting on a resource, like when I was upgrading my town, I would 100% jump at a chance to acquire additional enchanting materials in a run through a trader.

THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR AN ACTUAL SOLUTION.

every fucking time somebody gives feedback for a fix, somebody comes in with this nonsense. it is wildly boring, tedious, generally "unfun", and essentially an exploit. while a bandaid fix to "get through it" while it sucks now, that doesnt mean its a substitute for an actual solution.

for all of the blacksmith upgrades on one character, it takes 89 iron. it takes 280 crystals for all of the magic shop upgrades, excluding mana pickups (403 if we include mana pickups). also another 59 for the poison resistance (why is this separate from the others?) at the apothecary. you can increase your iron gain with drinks and trinkets and stuff in a run, you cant increase crystal gain. YOU CAN BUY IRON WITH GOLD (or sell wood/stone for gold and buy iron), and you can not buy crystals in any capacity. 89 vs 339 for all meaningful upgrades is fucking absurd. that also doesnt including the crystal cost of any buildings or enchants either.

just for one character, its 11-12 candle runs. at 3 minutes each, thats 231-252 minutes of mindless grind just for the materials. thats like 4 hours. meanwhile, i have more than enough iron for buildings and blacksmith upgrades by just playing the fucking game (honestly gold was the bigger limiting factor there, but gold ALSO applies to magic shop).

candle runs are not an excuse or substitute for better scaling/costs of upgrades or having some means of additional acquirement (like scrapping equipment, or just fucking buying it from the trader).

oh an apparently iron isnt even used for ANY building upgrades, but you need a total of 595 crystals for all of the building upgrades.

#

you need 623 iron for ALL upgrades for all 7 characters. between building (595) and upgrades for all characters (3234, im including mana pickup upgrade too), you need 3829 crystals. even if you get HALF of that from normal runs and playing the game, its still over 3 hours spent just doing boring ass candle runs to get the rest in a timely fashion to match the blacksmith. so miss me with "just do candle runs" crap.

Jut for some context, 11-12 trinket runs are not nearly enough for even half of a build in later levels. Trinket mat income does not increase but the materials required to enchant do. To enchant a full set of lvl 70+ gear you need around 150 reds. You get 5-7 reds per candle skip. 4 candle skips take more than 2 min avg due to load screens and RNG spawn locations in forest 1. It takes well over an hour of nonstop super efficient grinding to enchant a full set of gear, often longer.

i was unaware that enchanting scaled with item level. thats even more insane.

you also need iron to upgrade your gear. iron cost is also very high, specially if you take into account multiple builds per character. while I have found blue crystals to be a limiting factor early on, it wasn't anywhere near as ridiculous as people make it out to be. a lot of my characters are maxed already and I haven't progressed as far into the game. ng+4 highest. while iron is still a limiting factor because I keep upgrading new gear to +10 when I get it

#

blue crystals are a one and done deal, enchantment isn't as frequent so the drop rate feels fairly balanced. as far as other resources go, gold, wood, and stone get consumed a lot depending on how much you use the architect, but you still oversustain it unless you fail runs frequently

iron can be bought for the trader. The real issue with trinkets come at high NG when gear starts costing more and more to enchant but trinket materials don't increase. At ilvl 100 for example it costs something like 50 red trinkets for a single enhancement, which cannot be afforded through normal gameplay.

i dont think we need more iron, crystals seem more limited

#

eventually you will have 1000 wood just waiting to be sold into iron

There needs to be something to grind for, otherwise each ng is getting cleared in one run.

Not at all. You clearly haven't played higher NG+, enchants and gear is not what is limiting you. Even if it was, the play pattern of 4 candle skip farming is not healthy for the game. When I get new gear drops, I don't want to have it sit there useless in my storage because it takes 2 full runs worth of time to enchant it, and I'm not sure if I will get upgrades soon after farming the mats.
It feels terrible to farm to enchant your gear, only to have a +2 ilvl piece drop right after. It's incredibly punishing, and getting new gear should feel exciting, not draining.

The game already makes gearing to a new level way easier than pretty much any arpg style game since you can entirely change any item that drops to the perfect one with no variance.

2 ilvl worth of extra stats just isn't that much, you don't need to enchant every 2 ilvl upgrade. It's maybe a 3-5% increase in some of the stats on the item.

People are already complaining that they have gotten to the point where ng+ is insanely spongy and filled with one shots, making getting there easier isn't a good idea.

I would rather see a system that doesn't give you the trinket mats from candles until you have finished a couple floors after if the goal is to disincentivize that play pattern.
