Dark Tides, Vikings!
We were speeding through the game on Hard Combat and wanted to try the following game mode.
Combat: Very Hard
Death penalty: Hard (not Hardcore)
Resoure rate: 50%
Raid rate: More
Portals: No Portals
Active: No Map
Raids are Player Based
Elder has been defeated recently, we have no idea where Bonemass is. Both merchants are found. There are only a few active players right now but I am hyper active, and will be through the end of Q1 2024 at least. We are mostly solo and group up for boss fights, will probably share a plains castle for a little TD action. We play with and without discord, so you're welcome to enjoy however you want to. Our house rules are to politely ask that you do not steal or defeat content using terrain cheesing, like raising the ground and calling that a wall in your base. This makes you immune to the raids, lame. My buddy Suudo has a dedicated server we are playing on.
This is a serious grind, when you die you lose quite a bit if you haven't been clever about your approach - but it doesn't have to be a clear game over unless you have risked too much or spread yourself too thin to recover. Inventory risk management, and planning ahead for inventory restoration post-death become part of the game. I have lost 4-6 bronze/iron axes and picks, and 10+ weapons and shields just trying to survive out there. It makes it more interesting because you aren't just making a giant pile of loot until you overwhelm the game. This mode lets you lose stuff, but not 100% of your skill points. If you're impatient, you're game over fast.
We have discussed opening up Portals in the Mistlands, but only after the party is collectively able to craft (1) mage table. This effectively means we have to retrieve (5) black cores on our own before adding normal portals to the game. You can't use the sky in the mist so it becomes tedious, but we are open to discuss it.
DM me, but only if you're excited about it! We don't want a ton of people.
