#Just Building

Ok. I'll be online often during the day EST. Right now I'm basically just in the mind of a large stone facility with iron skeleton, with spacious crafting, lodging for 10 players, a port, fishing dock, archery range, pig farm, garden, and stable.
I have the site selected, a Meadow near the starting spawn point close to mountain, swamp, black forest and plains.
Hmmm... I was thinking more along the lines of a walled settlement. The main idea I was thinking about submitting is high rise apartment complexes
Interesting.
Considering the 10-player limit in the vanilla game, what did you have in mind?
Oh, one apartment complex can hold several times over the number of players. Also, the 10 people limit is only for how many can be online at the same time
I can dm you the floor plan if you'd like
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/829994330583728128/994048690585083924/New_project_Ground_floor.png can also see it here. Each apartment can hold 2 people, and there are 4 floors, to try to keep it reasonable
That makes one apartment complex fitting 48 people nicely
Interesting. I hadn't considered that sometimes players might share a server even though they can't be on at the same time.
I could go crazier, increasing the number of apartments per floor and the number of floors, iron makes many things possible. But there's no need to go off the rails. Even just one of these is more sleeping quarters than in even the craziest of my previous builds
If you have plans or images of past projects you're willing to share that would be welcome! I am fascinated by this idea. The reason I had ruled it out up to now was something to do with already being common for us humans to be confined to small spaces as it is, and I thought maybe a comfortable home for each of 10 or x players with a large common area would be preferable. I had considered making some in joint units so someone can easily open a pair up into one shared building.
I mean, when you said fortress, I thought of a settlement with many buildings inside, on a grand scale, surrounded by fortifications
Yes.
I have done the single large building, check out the latest video I have in #461509531344699393
And sure, a fortress settlement can include something like that... But why stop at just a single massive building like that?
Well, I'm not dogmatic about it being one single building, but if I was asked why stop at any point it's because there's a mountain on one side and the ocean on the other. I will build outposts in each of the nearby biomes with pathing. The main unit will be comprehensive.
I am having a look at your Midnight base. What are the floor dimensions?
88x88 meters. The production areas are 12x72 meters each, the central hallway is 8 meters wide, and I forget the exact dimensions of the living spaces. I think like 10x30 or something. I'll have to look again later.
The central courtyard is 20x20 meters
Can I see this in person? I won't equip any tools or attempt to interact with any objects.
Sure, but it will be a bit until I'm off from work
Understood. I'm looking at my Manage saves from within the client now, after using the console command save before exit.
I'll be available in about 9 hours
Does it ever save to [filename].old? I'm trying to figure out which one to backup between visits while under construction.
Uhhh... No idea what you mean, lol
There have been some changes to Midnight, btw, as that video is pre-h&h. And as such some aspects don't quite work post-h&h
What is h&h?
Hearth and Home, the previous large scale update that released on September 16th 2021
It brought tar pits, darkwood building pieces, an overhaul of the food system, and more
Hello, just stumbled on this post and wanted to drop by some info. There's a mod that enables players other than the host to use console commands. I'm affiliated with a dedicated building server that provides a mod for all players to use debugmode/no cost so we don't have to grind mats and purely enjoy building, and I think that'd come in handy for you. too. No need to be installed on the server, but anybody who wants to use that mod must install it by themselves.
Ok, interesting. Can the save later be used by players who have no mod, as if vanilla?
Yes, whatever would conflict would be mods that add building pieces other than vanilla pieces, after someone attempts to log into the server with no mods.
Can you point me to it please?
The link to the mod? I'll DM you just in case.
Good thinking, thanks.

Link to the h&h patchnotes
Updated my original post to reflect my review of the Quality of Life mod. It would be helpful if people used that.
@supple zinc bop. OK to dm you with the basic information about seeing Midnight?
Yes
@supple zinc so, now you've seen some of my work in person. high rise apartments are a new thing, even for me
btw, the dock is 100% stone only
the only bit of iron used is a small gate used to access the foundations
Are there mods that would need to be downloaded?
You wouldn't need to download any mod, but if you want to use console commands you would need one. From what I understand Quality of Life will give you that ability.
I'm happy to have a player who is also on the vanilla version on the ground. I'll keep you supplied with materials and there's lots of terraforming to do, too.
ill come check it out
Ok then! Let me get some things together and I'll DM you
alright
i'd be honored if you'd let me join too
Based. Once I get the map backed up I'll invite.
not a dedicated server i take it? we can make it one, and you'd still be able to use devcommands with that mod that was recommended to you
Not just yet. I want to make sure my ability to preserve backups is preserved. I'm looking at the manual a bit. We'll see.
Based
It let's you do anything and everything more then debugmode
What are the most useful tools that debugmode doesn't have
I can't upload a screenshot here. I'm about to DM you both ok @livid spindle @leaden jewel
i cant send sc aswell, ill dm u
