Problem is that my other people dont; right now for example im fixing an issue a friend had with dathost failing for no good rreason by running his modpack on my server...and in the process discovering that the problem wasnt - in fact - caused by the dathost being a vm image with the associated probable limits... but something that also happens on baremetal linux too. So i'm only able to talk him out of using so many mods before its basically just my mods on my server :)

Hey all.
Unique issuer here, running a heavily modded server.
One of our users suddenly has a very strange issue, where if they connect to the server, after about 10 seconds they lag out and freeze.
If they disconnect and rejoin, it just starts making copies of their character, running spot, floating, etc.
They can then run around the server and do things, but they are entirely invisible.
I have no idea how to remedy this.
I have added their log if any smart people fancy trying to fathom what could be doing it.
It is also spamming.

Maybe comm issues between them and Steam or them and the server?

I have confirmed they have done neither, and so far there seems to be no connection issue.
I would upload their player log, but this server does not allow it.
We do use "Server Characters" by smoothbrain, and I am wondering if that is the issue.
Although, it is has never prompted issue before, this is unusual.
They are the only user affected.
They said this was a sudden issue. Usually mods and their configs don't do 'sudden' issues. They generally break immediately or when put in with another mod that conflicts with them.
The only recent update is Azu's Extended Player Inventory.
But ServerCharacters by Smoothbrain, does seemingly touch every single mod, in someway or another via the handshakes

A player in 'ghost' mode needs to be an Admin on the server. And even so they wouldn't cause animals to go into 'friendly' status with other players.
And now all players seem to have at least that one issue in common. Your problem is getting worse by the minute.
Seems so, but I do know that areas on Valheim sort of "sync" to the first person to join or go into that area, he definitely went into that area first.

That's going to be hard for you to do. It could be something like someone else in their household sucking up all their internet bandwidth with a download or streaming or whatever. Not to mention something like a VPN or virus scan running in the background on their PC.
Odd, the user is running around and can see everyone else moving and can see what is going on
But he appears still and not moving, but he can see eveyrone else moving entirely
So further to this weird issue; some notes:
- an area where a player is building a base will suddenly stop registering their build pieces. They see them, but nobody else will ,and the pieces will be missing when they log in again.
- other players can build pieces that are seen by everyone, and the player with the issue also sees their pieces normally
- the area can be within multiple zones or only one
- it happens seemingly at random
- the issue is persistent, even after rolling back several map backups - although in at least one prior case the rollback may have been related to the zone becoming 'unstuck" and normal play continuing
- players see each other normally, with no unusual latency
- items dropped on the ground are usually unseen by the player experiencing the issue, and if all parties leave the area the items often cease to exist
- player inventory seems to behave normally across quits and logouts
- ship's expected location and ability to move and be seen moving them by others is similarly normal
All of this is a pretty big showstopper for players experiencing it.
They have no guarantee that what they did in the last few hours even happened when the world gets reloaded into their client.

Is this happening for all players on the server? You've got Target Portal installed on the server as well as all player's games? What has changed since it started happening? New mods added to the server or player(s) game? Mod configurations changed?
You can try just reinstalling the mod on the server and restarting it just in case that might solve it.
i tested it in single player with all my mods and it works fine

Smoothbrain mods typically dont support crossplay.
Either turn of crossplay or change your mods

Your server is running in crossplay mode.
If you or your friend are hosting your singleplayer game, just uncheck the box that says crossplay, before you hit start server.

You can't play with xbox users. Which, if you are using mods, they already likely can't play with you anyways.
Crossplay vs steam networking use different methods of connecting, crossplay typically adds more latency. Some people prefer it because they don't know how to port forward or setup their dedicated server otherwise.
But if you are just using the in-game browser, or inviting your friend to play etc it doesn't make any difference.

Removing crossplay also means that if you run a dedicated on your LAN you can connect to it via the local IP address. (zero ping)
...and not needing to find out which mods dont play nice with crossplay (it can be very difficult to figure it out) is worth it anyway.

One of your mods is removing objects incorrectly.
You can try to determine which one it is with Azus dev mod https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Azumatt/AzuDevMod/, but that error can be pretty hard to determine the source of unless you just start disabling mods.

"widely downloaded" does not equate to "good quality"
without a copy of your LogOutput.log file there isn't much anyone can do to help you. The file is located in your BepInEx folder.
If you are installing mods from Vortex that's probably not a great idea. Get your mods from Thunderstore.io and use a mod manager like Gale or R2modman.

I even have a few quality of life mods installed that run smooth. My question is: is there a way, or a mod for me and a friend to run devcommands at the same time in that local server? I’ve been reading about a mod called Server Commands using the bepinex plugin. Can anybody share any information about this? We just want to fly and build forever at the same time lol

It has to go on the server and restart the server. And also on all player's games. Just install it and no other special stuff. There's only an 80% chance it'll help you due to the complexity of comm systems in general. Good luck with it.
Ive seen may modders recommend not using that mod anymore because it parts of what it does were added to the base game and other parts cause compatiblity issues with other mods

I would not try to load a bunch of mods if you're even unsure how to make it work at all.

I don't know how R2ModMan works, I've used that ThunderStore thingy in the past, but it should show you what mods are installed.
But first you probably will have to create a profile there, and then point that profile to the directory where Valheim is located at.
The first "mod" you need to install is then BepInEx.

Ok, then try one more mod where you can easily discern that it is loaded.
Use a simple mod like "Plant Everything".
As soon as you pick up the cultivator, you can tell if it is working.

if you look at the mod page on thunderstore it has both the client-side and server-side tags and the only dependency is bepinex. so yes it should be on both the clients and the server and nothing else is needed except bepinex.

Warfare needs to be installed on the server. Apparently, it isn't loading properly on the server. Find the problem with the server's Warfare mod installation and fix it.
Check your game's log file to see if there are errors in there that would explain it. Especially at the end of the log file after you're kicked out. Your log file is in your BepInEx folder.

The LogOutput file. It's a simple text file that you can read with your text editor.
When did this problem start? Does it happen every time you play? Does it happen at the same time everyday? You might be timing out and disconnecting due to something else going on in your PC. Like a scheduled anti-virus scan, for instance.
Is there anything else going on at your house that could cause your internet to slow way down and give you a time-out?
It happens randomly recently, when I picked up some fish from the grill, it started about 3 days ago and it has kicked me out 3 times already, there is a chance that someone at home is overloading the internet

You're using a version of a mod that is incompatible with your version of the game. This is usually an outdated mod, unless you're on an old beta branch of the game.

the valheim pack is modified to work better with the game. i dont recall excactly how but I think the initial hooks into unity are slightly different

Think of it this way... If you start the game from a "Start Modded" button inside the mod manager profile, then it'll use the BepInEx plugins & configs also from within the mod manager profile.
If you start the game outside the mod manager, it uses the plugins & configs from outside the mod manager.

Having the mod loading ok is only part of it. The mods also need to not interfer with each other, which could put out a different error msg. later in the log.
And, they need to have properly configured .cfg and/or .yml files that aren't messing them up, too.
Those files in the profile folder apply when you start the game from within the mod manager itself, which you would normally be doing naturally.

Step away from it a while and let your sub-concious mind mull it over for a while. And remember, it's only a game.
And graphics mods are anything but simple. They do mighty work and need mighty support from you to do it. In the end, it's usually worth it and you'll have learned stuff, too.
Graphics mods are texture files and supposedly to be handled in a very straightforward way.
if your 7textures contains
elephant-defailt.file
and you want a pink elephant, you download a
pinkelephant.file
Make a backup of the original, like
elephant-defaut.old
delete the original
copy pinkelephand.file and rename it to elephant-defaault
Your elephant now will be pink.
I think thats how they were done for valheim but its not that straight forward as I dont think they are individual files in modern game engines
but that doesnt work with any of the mod managers/installers and requires a manual install

thunderstore, r2modman, and gale. none of them install mods into the game directory they all use a profile directory
Yeah, it's a bit of a crutch that I dislike.
Essentially they take away a lot of hassle from users who aren't exacty literate on filesystems, system folders etc. and I appreciate that.
I do, however, come from a generation where patches for Linux telephony servers came on CD and on toop of the cp -p we needed to run chmod & chown to make the executables accessible and working 🙂
This is not the fault of the game.
It's entirely possible to make a graphics mod that is a self contained DLL.
Making mods for Valheim is one of the if not the easiest game to make mods for.
It's simply how the author decided to do it.
Hello, I'm slightly confused. It might just be a bepinex issue or maybe a mod folder issue? I downloaded mods with thunderstore, and for every other game I just press modded and bepinex starts up, but for valheim bepinex does not start up naturally for some reason. That is my one and only issue I think. I'm assuming the mods wont work because its technically a vanilla startup instead of a modded startup. Am I supposed to be doing something else with the files?

the console is a toggable feature, dont expect it to be there in every game modded with bepinex
So i downloaded ChestChain, but when i load up, i dont see it in the mod configurator, nor i can use the hotkeys for it. Is there a certain mod that it doesnt work with?

Getting Unity crashes frequently the past 10 days. Would someone be able to discern the cause from a crash report in my player.log? Is that even possible?
Seasonality isnt following the timer properly. i have each season set to 5 hours (real time) but sometimes it’ll switch after only 45min
Idk who's "fault" it is, I don't intend to blame anyone but it's just very poorly optimised. Not sure why the mod author would purposely choose to make it complicated

Hello people, when i am installing https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/denikson/BepInExPack_Valheim/ bepinex just fresh one without any mods on first scene its crashing when i delete bepinex then its run without any problems, i installed bepinex same thing for my friend and its running smooth without any crashes, any idea why valheim crashing for me?
Verify your Steam Valheim game files and check your player log file for errors. It's in the BepInEx folder.
And provide more info about your situation. What OS? What kind of 'crash'? Black screen to desktop? And errors with the crash?

First, reinstall your Valheim so it's 100% clean.
Second, install R2modman and subscribe to BepInEx.

It kind of depends on the mod but you can look for those saying that they are current as of the Bogwitch Update. Also, look for mods that are authored by active mod authors. Those guys don't usually leave mods available when they're outdated and broken.

Gizmo is completely client side. I use it, bf doesn’t. He can still see pieces I rotated with the mod
All it does is give the modded client greater control over the transforms of build pieces (position and rotation) during placement. The unmodded client has no issue seeing them as the modded client placed them. The server has no issue saving and preserving the position and rotation.
The vanilla game just artificially limits your ability to define position and rotation for your pieces, it doesn't prevent them from being upside down and rotated on the z axis or anything
I will say the one issue I’ve come across is, because it has more rotation points, I’ll start a build accidentally off-kilter and then no one else can line up with it 😅

Is there an easy way to tell if a mod is client side or server side if the author/uploader hasn't added those tags? I play on PC but my friend plays on Xbox so I try to primarily stick to server-side mods. We've talked about doing a mapless playthrough, and like the idea of cartography table mods that make it so you can only view a map at the cartography table, like this one https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/bodyXY/NoMap_Cartography_Map/. But I'm assuming it is client-side for some reason. Just curious if anyone could give some insight ty
If you place a mod on server, only clients with the same mod will experience the modded content.
ServerSide QoL on Thunderstore, placed on server, will allow modded content to joining Xbox players.
There's a list of server-only mods here. I'm not sure it's up to date but you'll find it interesting anyway. Also consider that you can to a lot with world modifier commands at the F5 console that don't need mod support at all.

Amazing, I never knew this mod existed. If I'm reading this right, I think I can pull off what I was hoping to do using this mod. On that ServerSide QoL page under "Configuration" I see the Map Tables group. The last command there says "MapViewDistance" and says "Max distance to a map table at which players can view their map. Has no effect unless the NoMap global key is set. 0 to disable this feature."
If I'm understanding that correctly, I can set the NoMap option for the world and this mod will allow us to use the MapTable within X meters of the map table?

Yeah that's true, we even spoke about how people will probably do that. Just like carrying portal maps but eh, I guess if people want to do that so be it, and everyone that wants to adhere to a semi-nomap can try it out

I play on PC but have some friends that play on Xbox so when we boot up a community server from time to time I like to avoid mods that only the PC players will benefit from. We've mostly just done vanilla playthroughs because of it but I like to incorporate some mods when I'm able to

if you want craft from containers you should probably use AzuCraftyBoxes since it's actually supported and maintained.
FirstPersonMode is not server side, but it has some server side configs that can be locked if it is installed on the server.
Same is true for most of them. They have config files that can be locked by putting the mod on the server.

Anyone here with a clever idea why I don't see the DOS window with the startup log and the top-left info about loaded mods in Valheim on the mainpage?
I downloaded BepinEx, simply unpacked it, launched Valheim, closed it again, put the 2 DLL for y 2 mods into the plugin folder, did some config . .
Both mods work just fine, I just don't get thelog scrolling through on game start and no info top-left

My installation works, the mods load, the mods work.

Because - as I initiallyy stated - I was wondering about the absence of that DOS window where the log-output usually scrolls on startup and the absence of the info in the upper left of the valheim main screen where I used to see info abut loaded mods.
No cmd window is because it's turned off in the config.
No mod info is because it got split into its own package instead of being bundled with BepinEx.

Now, that's one I did not check - hence my question about a "switch" to run "silent" - that would certainly suppress the additional window.
It's been a while since I last set this stuff up, game-rig and dedicated server are currently in storage because we're moving country these days.

The "silent" output window is indeed a true/false option in the config.
The factory default one from github has it set to false, the customised one has it set to true in the config.
That mistery is solved and we're one step further.

Hey so my brother and I rented a dedicated server from host havoc, and we don't want many mods, we've only successfully uploaded the azucraftycontainers, valheimraft, teleporteverything, jotunn. However we'd like to run the simplistic version of epicloot but even after installing the mod on server side and player side it won't register as an active mod on server side when we attempt to log in the server. Has anyone had issues with epicloot dll being in the plugins folder but still not working? I tried to find a work around or guide but no luck so far. Cheers if anyone can help us out!
Check your logs, both server and client side, to see if there's a possible mod conflict preventing it from loading properly.

While you're waiting, check your player game log files. That should be a whole lot simpler and likely would show up the same error, if there was one.

Hello, Im playing with my friend on a local server with mods, there is only like 8 mods total, the most important for us is ValheimRAFT, and for the first idk like 5h of gameplay everything was okay, and then, without changing anything in mod list, my friend stopped seeing anything added by mods, he cant see ships or magic, also he cant see any entities like monesters or animals, and when he destroys something like a tree or stone he doesnt see or get the loot from it. Any idea how to fix it please?

After creating new character, he could see and grab loot and everything, but as soon as he got close to the ship i built, everything broke down, he couldnt see the ship and animals and mosters dissapeared
Ask him to verify that BepinEx runs and that he actually play modded.
He does the same as me, on thundermods he just clicks play modded

Both of you check your game log file to see if there errors there that would explain the problem. The log files are in your BepInEx folders.

You can export your thundermods profile as a code and send it to him so that he can create a NEW profile and use that instead of the one he uses now.

If you are using a mod manager like r2modman, then run the mod manager and go to Browse Profile Folder. You'll find it in there.
Also i gave my friend my modpack and it is still not working, last time i just killed him and it started working, or if he creates a new character it also starts to work for some time and then crashes again
It's the LogOutput.log file.
Both you and your friend can check in that log file and see that your mods are all loading without error. Of if one or another mods is having problems.

It's starting to sound like your friend is having some sort of dsync issue possibly caused by his PC running out of RAM and having to use it's swapfile. Or a comm link bandwidth problem like ISP throttling or his home router throttling the comm link for his PC.
How does he join your server? From within Steam as a friend there? Or finding your server in his startup listing? Or using a Join Code or your IP address?

I would ask him to fully nuke his entire Steam install and then reinstall it.
Then he nukes his current profile and get a fresh one from you.
Ask him then to VERIFY that he play modded.
I'm back again for a bit and just wanted to make one more comment.
If the problem doesn't occur until after 5hrs of game play, then it seems like he's hitting a limit somewhere due to one PC resource or another piling up and reaching it's limit over time.
That could be the RAM in his PC. Or some kind of limit on his internet bandwidth traffic. That sort of comm throttling can be imposed by his ISP (internet provider) or set on his home router. He should check for all three of those things. And throttling like that could cause the dysync.
He is playing modded, when he goes far away from my ship, and come back sometimes it works and he can see that
also if we are bothj away from the ship, he can see my magic wand and firebalsl that are form another mod

It looks like the Raft mod is showing a lot of problems in the log. Hard to say whether they're causing the problem or not but that mod seems like the most likely suspect at the moment.
If you and he haven't already done so, remove and reinstall the Raft mod. That's a long shot at this point but worth trying.
Have you two tried a test run with the Raft mod disabled temporarily? Would be interesting to see if the problem goes away then.

Just back up your world and you should be fine. Chances are there won't be any problem with the beta version at all. But just in case you can go to a backup world, if you have to.

You game should be doing that automatically. Check 'Manage Saves' menu at game start.

BepinEx is not a launcher.
There is no launcher afaik. The thing fires when Valheim starts.
It's really as simple as unpacking the stuff into the right place in the games directory and start Valheim for BepinEx to do it's thing

hey, i need som help with a mod i cant get to work. Vapok`s adventure backpacks. i downloaded it via vortex, from nexux. also installed the YamlDotNet requirement. yet i still cant see the crafting resipies in the game.
You should switch away from Nexusmods and it's Vortex mod manager. It often loads the wrong version of BepInEx and sometimes the mods themselves. Basically, it's a hassle.
You'll do better at thunderstore.io and either their r2modman manager or the Gale manager.
any way to make it work with vortex? i feel it would be just as much of a hassle to redownload 30 mods...

Nothing quite like it, no. Sadly the mod has to fight against too many of the game's systems which leads to things like seen in the screenshot I replied to

They are both good. It's really just personal preference. I guess r2modman may have a larger user base as it's been around longer. But other than that, they're pretty equal.

You'll probably have to remove the Marketplace mod from the server and restart the server.

So, you're trying to play on someone else's server? Make sure you're using the same Marketplace mod on your game. See if you can get the mod from them.

Okay, I've been trying to troubleshoot this for hours to no avail. I'm having an issue where portals are only connecting after I do a full server restart. These are my current mods. I've messed with everything and cannot figure out the problem. Any ideas?

use a modmanager like R2 or Gale .. install the mods using that. Figure out what mod is using MMHookgen patcher and see if you can live without it. I dont think any modern mods use that.

Hi so apparently im running into a problem. I supposed elder boss has 100% drop chance for a swamp key. But it seems like they don't. I've tried to kill so many and they never dropped 1.
I play with mods, that turns out i need to craft for a key. I also tried to look for the recipe, in workbench or forge and everywhere, nothing shows me how to craft it. Is there any material should i get 1st? Because after i defeat elder for the 1st time. It notify me, that i could craft swamp key. HOWEVER, the new update I will finally release will fix all of this!
Now all my creatures will spawn NEUTRAL and ONLY attack when attacked.
If you accidentally attack them you can run away or give them a treat 🙂

Oh! I just assumed because people have had a rough time with my creatures.
By default their attacks are disabled but some other mod enables them making my creatures spawn camp.
All fixed for my next update though, like I said now they will have attacks by default but spawn NEUTRAL.
ONLY if you attack them will they attack back and you can calm them down by running away or giving them a treat.
which do you recomend i just dont want them to chase me

those 2 in tandem will help cut down on chests and keep all your items in 1 space

hello everyone. what is the best solution for network optimization on a dedicated server right now? I'm currently using network(smoothbrain) + returntosender (comfy).
Anyone have an issue where BepInEx is not loading? I could tell by the fact that not .cfg files are being generated, even if just one mod is being tested as well as no LogOutput.log file.
I've now reduced my setup both locally and on the server to only have BepInEx, no actual mods, just to see if BepInEx loads, but it seems to fail to do so as no LogOutput.log file is created. After restarting the server it still fails to run it (though it runs on client side just fine, only failing on server). Anyone else had this issue?

Just the contents of 'BepInExPack_Valheim' folder, not the folder itself, so 'BepInEx' folder, 'doorstop_libs', the start_..sh files, .doorstop_version, doorstpo_config.cfg, winhttp.dll
All of this works just fine on client side (it's installed via Thuderstore Mod Manager on the client, but its the same files there too)

Im running it on a VPS, so everything is set up manually. I already had it set up a year ago, now coming back to do a fresh world with a different set of mods, so I wiped the mods folders now to have a new set

Yeah, the server_start.sh, which I run to do these tests right now. Normally I'd run a service (systemctl start/restart valheim.service) , which doesnt give me console output, which is why I run the .sh file isntead for testing now. But the service then runs the same thing

Yes those exports at the top changed last year. Take a look at the start_server_bepinex.sh from the latest version of BepInEx_Valheim and update yours. (just copy the last line from your old one and use it to replace the last line in the new one should work)

I don't even know if it's because of PlantEverything or a vanilla issue but I thought I'll post it here first. Sometimes the berry bushes just say "ready" but I can't pick them
It's a Vanilla thing, sort of. Pickables operate in terms of minutes and the pickable can take up to a full minute before it becomes pickable again.
The hover text used to be clearer on this and say "Ready any second now..." but I looked back and realized this changed with a pull request from shudnal when adding in Seasons compatibility. Apparently it now uses localized game text which in English is just "Ready".

Steamcmd may be downloading an old beta. It remembers which beta you used last so to get current you need to specify -beta public again

Cheat commands like fly, etc. always only worked for the host. If you want to use them if you are not the host you need the ServerDevcommands mod (which you can't install/use on xbox/consoles)

Hi everyone! It's my first time posting here.
I just started playing Valheim with my bf. We've only played three days in a row together so far. We have the same 121 mods running and everything is working fine (except for launching fireballs, that R keyboard command doesn't work for me for some reason despite Z working to trigger it 😅).
Then, when I tried playing solo, most mods didn't seem to work anymore such as:
- larger inventory space
- larger chest space
- auto-repair when going to a work station
.. From what I've obversed so far. What's the issue? My world has the same mods settings as my bf's, so I don't understand what causes this.

Hello, i am looking for a way to have NomapPrinter mod let me place and edit pins either through the mod itself or using other mods. I really enjoy the map style. I am doing this on a no map world with the mod setting only letting me use the map at the cartography table.
Not sure about NoMapPrinter But ZenMap is similar for a limited map experience. You can attach pins to signs with it.
yeah theres quite a few mods that let me do that but none of them seem to work with mapPriters textures sadly
You may find luck with shudnal's other mods since he made NoMapPrinter. However, you should also take a look at my mod since it’s fully integrated into the experience you are trying to create. Look at the screenshots.
I'm experimenting with ESP, specifically its spawn suppression/player base area effect visualizer. It seems to be visualizing everything except torches and campfires. I see no outline for spawn suppression because of those. Does anyone have an idea why?
Might be bugged as they also provide fire.

Hello, I need help figuring out why the mod Server Devcommands is returning a stack trace error when I try to enable devcommands on my Valhost-hosted server. I have installed Server Devcommands on my PC using Vortex Mod Manager, and installed it on Valhost using their install switch. I registered my SteamID 64 number to the admin list on Valhost. The server has been restarted on their backend to finalize the changes. I launch Valheim from Steam using the -console launch option. When I log into my Valhost server and push f5, the console comes up. I type in "devcommands" and push enter, and get a long error message in the console that identifies itself as a stack trace error. Valhost says they cannot help me with this and that it's my fault, but I wish they would explain what I did wrong 😂
Afaik vortex installs an old bad version of BepInEx. Most common first step suggestion will be to wipe everything vortex did and try using a mod manager for thunderstore.

That's probably your problem. Bepinex from thunderstore is preconfigured for valheim, if you use the version from github, you need to configure it yourself

I looked at both when I started trying mods out, and was turned off of Nexus almost immediately by the login and "pay us to speed up the download" options.
Nexus doesn't even support Valheim with mod managers.
Thunderstore the only place for Valheim modding.

It's not just about preference, vortex is known to cause issues with valheim

Thunderstore doesn't push anything, no politics, agendas etc, it's pure mod manager.
While Nexus is the opposite and uses their platform to push agendas, politics, extreme censorship.

I don't know why but it seems like Nexus users seem to be stubborn about their preference for no actual, rational reason. It's really kind of wierd. Nexus has caused obvious problems with Valheim consistantly for so long that it's really surprising to not be able to see that.
What Thunderstore has is a strong security system. If a mod cannot be validated as safe or it would be too much effort to check thoroughly, it's rejected from the platform.
Until about half a year ago, Valheim had an exception to allow obfuscated mods. Obfuscated mods try to hide their source code or at the very least make it very difficult to check. This rule has now changed and all packages must not be obfuscated. However, this rule change only applies to new uploads and has not been introduced retroactively.
Some of the modders who uploaded obfuscated mods are claiming that this is an agenda against them, so perhaps this is what they are referring to
Well IMO obfuscated code of any kind is monumentally stupid and hostile, so I don't care.

Any platform where the mod runs at the same system access as the game should never be obfuscated. Modding in Unity gives the mods the same access to the filesystem the game has etc. For any other platform where mods are sandboxed inside the game, I believe the topic is open for discussion.

Works great now. I have a suggestion, too: the sheer number of player base structures in a base makes it quite difficult to see if there's any gaps; there's dashed lines going around everywhere, which also just utterly destroys FPS. A really great enhancement would be to only show the outside edges of the ranges (so, only render the dashed lines if they're not inside another player base area effect). Not sure how tough that would be, but it would be a great improvement.
But, as it is, it works well for its intended purpose now.

Performance is less important I think, it's not generally enabled. But so many of those dashed lines so close together does make it difficult to determine if there's any small holes in your spawn suppression

Hi all, maybe someone could help me with this issue, i play in a server with afterdeath mod. Fighting the Queen i die and cant pick my body. Log off to see if that fix the problem and after i cant log in back. Server admin tells me no problem on the server, he see i try to log in but no erros. Anyone can help? Tks
Check your game's player log. It's in your BepInEx folder. See if there are error msgs. in there towards the end that would explain the problem.
Also, keep in mind that if you can't find and fix the problem, you should have backup copies of your character that you can restore. Those can be found in the game's start screen with the "Manage Saves" tab.
Trying to find a mod that gives admins more dev command access and haven’t been abandoned lol
Is anyone familiar with an issue me and my friend are having regarding multiplayer lag / desync? Usually only one player would have it at a time, including desync of placed items / structures, trees disappearing on their screen after being felled, enemies being completely invisible though still doing damage, etc
my pov, same time same place, no sconces for some reason and i keep having issues with my game lagging and certain interactions just not appearing on my end (like i cut a tree down and it just disappears as soon as it would fall)
Does this happen in vanilla ? If not then start removing mods until you figure out which one is causing it. I’d start with any network or performance mods.

It only depends on BepInEx in order to load. Which you'd find out why it's not loading (not working) inside the BepInEx/LogOutput.log file.

Hi, I know a lot of people don’t have a problem (at least that’s my impression) with the fact that wolves are always breeding and aren’t very useful.
But I’d really like to take several wolves with me when I travel.
WITHOUT them constantly having babies, and with some way to protect them a bit better from injuries. Special food, or some kind of light armor that reduces damage from knives, claws, and the like.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how to use mods myself—I don’t speak English, and I’m not good with technology.
Would anyone be interested in creating something like that? Because the developers of Valheim probably won’t do it—I’ve been waiting for years, and all they add are new animals, enemies, and gear, but unfortunately, NOTHING significant ever changes about the animals themselves.

keep the fertile animals safe, only take the sterile ones out into the wild with you.

Well, I never take domestic animals into the wild, but the base does get attacked regularly...
ok .. so then if the fertile animals die you have to tame new ones. You asked about preventing excessive breeding. That's what ZenBreeding does. It makes it so only animals that you tame can reproduce. Any of their offspring are sterile.

nope, not what this mod does. ZenBreeding is designed to be easy to use, easy to understand, no complicated rules to remember or special items. It's simple: Animals that you tame reproduce, any that they spawn do not repdroduce. This lets you control the reproduction rate. Put the fertile animals in a protected pen.
Also, in vanilla (and this mod), if you don't feed the animals they don't reproduce.
Well, unfortunately, animals that are out and about find food on their own, without me having to feed them.

- targetPortal is installed on server AND all clients
- gizmo is NOT installed on SERVER
it should work....that said the server I am on right now has issues with it too. ie: distant portals not appearing when logging in until you go near them. A per-session workaround is to create a portal that name-targets the remote one (vanilla style) and then refresh the targetportal map after 5-10 seconds.. then delete the local portal you used to prod it.
Hello Guys, im currently trying to get the STU_Ward mod to get to work on one of my dedicated servers: https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/sighsorry/STU_Ward/ but there seems to be some kind of issue which prevents it from working properly. I have all of the dependencies installed. The new ward added by the mod simply just does not appear in the crafting list and and old (vanilla) recipe is still in there. Does anyone know what the issue might be?
nvm i figured it out, apparently one of the dependencies (Jotunn) needs its own folder with its files inside the plugins folder.
ok new problem: after editing the cfg file for the mod, it resets upon restarting the server

Yeah, it's really a hit and miss.
Typically it's fine to edit in game if the mod supports ServerSync but if you encounter issues like this, turn the server off first.
would you happen to know if this specific mod helps with player base damage reduction? I mean stops other players from damaging buildings inside of the ward area? It is marked as a "special case" inside of the mods description but has no config options in the files so im a little confused

imo azus betterWards is stil the best ward mod. i dont use it for the pvp stuff it has, which may be useful to @regal osprey , and i typically disable all of the added wards with wackydatabase, and just use the settings on a vanilla ward
yo im using epicloot mod. does anyone know how to take an etched magic runestone and apply that enchantment onto a different item
Go to the rune tab, select your item, select the enchant you want to override, available runes you have will show up in the bottom. Same rules apply as usual for normal enchants, can't double up on things etc. Change the effect you are overriding if you don't see the rune you expect to show up, it might just be mutally exclusive.
generally, the best way to edit configs is via a configuration manager like ConfigurationManager. That will sync the configs back to the server and it gives the mod author an opportunity to respond to the config change in real time. Editing the cfg file directly on a running instance depends on if the mod author is activly running a file watcher and reloading configs if the config file changes. Not always the case. Plus config managers provide a nice clean graphical UI to help reduce errors and sync across all clients.

Willybach's HD mod has several different levels that you can use. You can try moving down to the simplest one to see if that makes any difference. The 'old' simpler graphics version is still incredibly effective at creating stunning textures in the game.
And minimize your computers background tasks while playing the game. Also, check out some of the Youtube videos available that claim to show you how to make your OS (Windos/Linux) run more efficiently and speed up the PC generally.

Do you get any errors in your game's log file? It's the LogOutput.log file in your BepInEx folder.

Dunno. That's odd. A copy command like that should work ok. Did you extract the files from their .zip, .7z, or .rar folders first? Is there a copy of the file(s) in there already and it's asking whether to overwrite them?
Try doing the copy in smaller sections a few at a time. Do the textures data folder last.

the show minimap coordinates when active shows the coords even when devcommands isnt active. This is different to prior behavior, and personally i use the presence of the coordinates to remind me when have full admin powers active.

Asking here since it’s mod related. Can anyone recommend some mods for Valheim that would be large QOL things but still kinda keep the vanilla feel? Curious to try some out that make it more enjoyable but don’t drastically change the game. I’ve never ran mods on this game before.

Install mine first and then use Willys terrain tiles to overwrite if you want to.
Ok, I knew one of them was supposed to be on top.
The terrain mod will work fine on its own without replacing with Willys. His tiles are just his design to fit in with his pack. Although both are acceptable.
So, if that's the case, what was it again that fixed the black dirt?
I'm not sure what that issue is. I initially thought the mod wasn't installed correctly but I've not been able to look at any Bepinex logs with the issue present to work it out.

Did you read the install section on thunderstore? It says you need Valheim BepInEx (with a link to it) then tells you where to put the wear and tear dll.
It says to install BepInExp through r2modman.
It looks pretty easy to get BepInExPack installed through r2modman. Hopefully thats the missing piece for you.
Load up your r2modman profile and use the Config editor button in there. That lets you set up the mod's options the way you want them.

i guess i don't understand the question. Install a ConfigurationManager and press F1 in the game to open the mod configuration screen. Change the settings and they will be synced to all the other players IF the mod supports it. most do, but not all.

guys changing this setting in epic loot does nothing i tried everything restarting the game creating new items with cheats i wanna play on legendary mode but im stuck with balanced does anyone know why?
Are you playing on a server that is overriding your option choices?
Also, you could try editing the setting by manually editing the mod's .cfg file instead of using the in-game configuration manager.

Not sure why it wouldn't do anything for you.
But if you want to be very certain, close the game, delete your existing configurations at Bepinex/config/Epicloot/coreconfig/*
Using either your mod manager or a text editor, ensure that config is set to legendary, and then start the game back up.
The generated configs will use legendary as the template.
If you are connecting to a server, whatever the server has set will overwrite what you locally have, so I would suggest making those changes to the server if you are using one.

Im currently using KGValheims marketplace and Quests, Ive managed to learn myself how to make quests etc but im having an odd problem.
When i finish Quest1 it says you completed the quest, but if i run back to the quest giver to get quest to which has QuestFinished: quest1 on it, it wont let me take quest2 (it says it wants me to take quest1) Quest1 is still there btw and can be taken indefinitly.

I changed the config file of a mod on my server but it's still acting as the default. I did save it and also made my friends make it the same on their computers too, still the default on the server. Anyone know why?

Making changes to configs live on the server do not always stick.
- Shut server down, make change, start server or
- Install Configuration Manager (https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/shudnal/ConfigurationManager/) and press
F1in-game and make the change. This mod only needs to be on your client, not the server.
Many mods act differently, but I typically make all changes in-game with the Configuration Manager unless I have my server down for maintenance.

I am just trying mods for the first time on my server but some friends are complaining of inventory/item issues. Mods I've installed EpicLoot, Valheim+, ValheimKillFeed, HardheimDiving and their dependencies. Any idea if this is actually mod related?
Have i understood it correctly that if I enable the ENV BEPINEX = true it will get the mod by itself, or do I need to upload it manually? and this env just makes the server use this folder at all if running a dedicated server

Assuming that's true, I can only guess at what might cause that to happen. Sadly, I don't have access to my PC atm to help troubleshoot this or make custom diagnostic tools for you.
This is typically only an issue with objects that have Plant components and only when code within the Plant class throws an exception. Berry bushes are not Plants, but rather, are Pickable resources which use their own growth logic.
The most common causes of these would be:
- A mod influencing Pickable growth times in a way that PlantEverything isn't aware of.
- Some seasons mods, skill mods.
- Playing in multiplayer where not everyone has the mod, and some clients reducing or increasing growth time in a manner that isn't synced with other clients.
- World / ZDO corruption. Particularly in environments where game time has been modified in some way.
DM me a BepInEx log file and I can verify some things to help narrow down the search, or at least rule out some possibilities.
Normally if I suspected that this could in any way be the fault of a mod of mine or even an incompatibility with another mod I would be all over it as my top priority. However, PlantEverything's logic relative to this hasn't changed in ages, nor has the Vanilla game's, and it has been thoroughly tested by thousands of players over a span of numerous years. This is not a known or even common issue, and it surely would have been brought to my attention by now if it was.

Follow the directions on the BepInEx mod's web page. The best way is to use a mod manager like r2modman or Gale to automatically install it.
If you install it manually, it needs to be properly put in the game's valheim folder. It doesn't matter where that is as long as it's in that folder.
right thats not my issue though, for some odd reason when i go to paste it into the Bepinex folder i get that message above. That drive has over 300gb of storage. i was asking where it truly stores the stuff( i see it on my e:drive) elsewhere or in that specific drive where its installed as that up above makes no sense to me.

If you use a mod manager it will be in your appdata which is on the c drive where Windows is.
thats what i was looking for thats why im out of room cause my c: drive on my pc is the windows installation drive..theres very little space left. Can i change that option somewhere?

turns out that was the problem, there was tons of defunct files from old uninstalled games i no longer played in there. Stupid way microsoft designed windoes...geezuz. I cleaned that up and got like 45 gb back. After that....installed perfectly.

You installed the PTB update, many mods won't be compatible with it and this is what happened here. Don't use mods on PTB.
Well at least I now know I have to recompile for that method signature change. If they don't revert that we're going to have soooo many broken mods

im pretty sure theres better ways to achieve the same goal without needing to use more files, but it would probably need to be carefully designed to maintain compatibility between win/linux/mac since unity probably has nothing for it

get/create a file, slap it into /config, activate it in org.bepinex.plugins.backpacks.cfg
One quirk is that it will get strange if it doesnt have at least one upgrade section.

and search TS for backpack, theres a bunch of item specific ones there (mods that are basically just the yml)
the yml file name needs to follow a specific pattern
the backpack names themselves need to not conflict with any other existing backpack

you probably just need to check some boxes in configurationManager for it to do anything outside vanilla behavior

either your file is named incorrectly, or you think buy means sell, or sell means buy and are thereby using the wrong file, or your syntax is incorrect and the mod is getting locked up or ignoring your bad edits

Lately, I’ve been running into this problem: I upload the same version of the mod to the client and the same version to the server. But for some reason, as soon as I try to connect to the server, the game throws an error: [Warning:Armoire] No version number received, mod may not be installed on server
And everything works fine in single-player. This doesn’t happen with all mods, but unfortunately this is one of them. I don’t understand what’s going on; for some reason, the server says I have a different version, even though I installed the same version on both my server and client.
I’ve already tried a few things:
-tried different versions of the mod
-turned crossplay on and off
-changed the language in the game
-loaded the mod manually and via the mod loader

As I told you on NexusMods, this is almost certainly a case of the mod not loading on the server. DM me \BepInEx\LogOutput.log from the server and I'll take a look for you.
If you can't find such a file, BepInEx is improperly installed on the server and mods aren't loading

You want to protect the character file from tampering offline right ? Which means you need to save the player data on the server right ? Which means you need the client to send the character data to the server. I..e. Needs to be installed on the client.
If it doesn’t appear when mods are disabled then it’s one of your mods causing it.
yeaa obviously, in fact i founded the issue, i had an item equipped with the "glowing" attribut, when i remove it, the bug disapear, but when i equip it back, it comes back

That depends. Some mods are meant to be on both the server and the game clients. In that case, some of those mods being on the server will require being on the game clients, too. Other mods won't.
So, basically, you'll probably have to go by trial and error loading only a few mods at a time so you can see which one(s) are causing a problem easily. But, realistically, the fewer mods on the server, the more likely it will be that your players won't have to have the same mods installed.
Be careful about mods that add new things to the game. If some players don't have the same ones as other players that can be big trouble especially for mods adding building pieces.
And, as always, make sure your world backups are current and available.
You might consider setting up a dedicated server on your LAN at home. Especially if you happen to have an old PC around that you can reconfigure for the server and possibly leave running most of the time.
It's a bit of a project but doable. And often a good learning experience when you don't take it too seriously.
when you click Host Game your PC is acting as a client and a server. So any mods you have installed on your game are also on the server since they are one-and-the-same.
Many mods are required to be on all clients to work correctly though. Read the mod descriptions.

i use sudnals extra slots which has them as well, but it also needs to be turned on in the config

for config, either open the .cfg file in the config folder of bepin x folder, if you are using a mod loader change it there, and the easiest place is using azumatts official bepin x config manager which allows you to change config in game
azu does a lot you could say
oh you said inven slots, uhhhh it doesnt give you inven slots, it gives you a panel to seperately slot ur armor and stuff

Strongly recommend using an in game configuration manager. Makes your life much easier. There are many to choose from in thunderstore.

That's the wrong altar for Eikthyr.
I know its not the original one but this is the one that was marked on the map since spawn
If you can figure out which of your mods' added that altar, you can probably go to the mod's web page and see what that altar is for and how to 'activate' it.
I suspect it wants trophies of local creatures. Such as neck trophies, if it's in the Meadows.
