hi guys whats w the new patch does it affect our current saves??
Its one of my favorite fights, i killed him melee both times, didnt die
Not if youre not on ptb
Gotta try this then
i dont even know whats ptb, is this a good thing or bad thing
devs are working give them a rest
ty for the answer ily
Probably good.
The "saves" update is only in test version. You have to actively opt in to test out that version, by going into steam settings (if on pc) and putting a password and all sorts of stuff
im just chillin in my smol wooden world no public things
You just run/walk away when he casts spikes and meteors, rest of attacks you dodge or parry
I may face him again soon. Want to redo the fight and pay more attention, not get greedy with attacks
how hard is the late game bosses
I shall try it soon, first I must return to the homestead life for a while
im getting destroyed by abominations
What are you using to fight them?
The current last 3 bosses are a step up from the ones before
A lot harder than abominations
They're also generally pretty hard in melee, but a little simpler with ranged weapons. Gonna have to improve your skill as you go along though
The gear and boss progression feels exponential at times, each boss feels way tougher than the last
i recently created my first abomination armor set hope it helps i need to upgrade the armor a bit tbh
If you learn the attack pattern you can parry their attacks and stunlock them to death
Abominations taught me to love the parry
lol same
Wheres the fun in mogging a root monster?
Its pretty satisfying once you get it down
their skinny arm quick swipe is weakest, bonus points parrying them on top of a flame jet
waiiit i never seen the 4th boss is it something related to abominations??
No lol
i mean the 3th boss after the elder
That one looks like a giant slime.
didnt knew that
Wasnt gonna spoil anything
its ok
Should root harnesks get nerfed?
do u guys use the elder buffs?? i never use it
I use it on my tree farm
eh not often. Sometimes the chopping/mining can be nice when you need resources
Eikthyr power feels so good, throughout the entire game
abomination style boss would be sick though, current boss is kind of meh.😒
yea thats what im sayin
I wear them all the way through Ashlands. And I feel like giving a single piece of armor a 50% resist is so OP with how damage calculation works at the moment that it removes all incentive to wear anything else.
I havent played early game since it changed but im sure its nice in swamps
eikthyr is kinda op
swamps is worse than hell hope i leave soon
ur wet everyyy time and monsters jump on u instantly
but its fun i guess
valheim² when
Elder?
I kind of like Elder, it's a good step up from Eikthyr.
Yea, pretty common sentiment here on the server
Been tons of suggestions how to change it too. The one I've seen gain the most traction (and which I support too) is to make the pierce resist a root set bonus, rather than a chest piece bonus
Deep north ending:
Odin: “So. great work, uhm. i never told anyone about the ELEVENTH world…… it’s a mess.”
Also, it's kind of weird that a 3rd tier armor set has both poison and pierce resist and it just.... doesn't show up anymore for the next 4 biomes.
no, tall man doesnt count, wants nasty dripping mangled tree spider thing
is odin going to descend from the skies on a rainbow to test our mettle in the deep north 🌈
What doesn't show up?
Yeah, but Barley Wine is so easy to make.
Same with poison resist
The poison resistance is weaker than the mead
Yeah, and it's better than what the helmet gives.
Resistances on gear is convenient tho.
I like playing without the resistance meads, paying attention to the gear resistances is a lot more fun for me
But yeah they went a bit overboard with the root set
power creep
It's really the root harnesk that stands out to me the most as being OP.
It just seems a little out of place.
It has the fire weakness, but yeah it is easy to pop up the fire barley wine to cancel that.
And it only gets stronger if you up difficulty
The serpent shield seems like a much better implementation. It's a tower shield type, it's bulky, only works when you're holding it up and is annoying to build.
That's about what I'd expect for something that reduces incoming damage by 50% before armor calculation.
all towers have some pierce resistance when?
Well dont they also stack?
Not unless they changed how things work recently.
Resistances don't stack, only take the highest one.
And it negates weaknesses too. So barley wine not only negates the weakness to fire on the root harnesk, it gives you the standard 50% resist you get from the potion.
Root harnesk and serpent shield specifically do stack. Because shield block and armor is calculated seperately
Oooh.
So shield applies resistance, then applies block
Leftover armor hits player, applying resistance, then armor
I did not know that.
yeah, not stack necessarily but both count in the process of the maths
Yep
Not that I think it matters much. By the time you've blocked with serpent shield, there's not much damage left to be halved by harnesk
That honestly makes a lot more sense to me, to have pierce resist apply to things like shields.
That have a more active component.
You can also get the Wet debuff to cancel out the Weakness to Fire
2 star spear fuling be like
I think that's the main thing I don't like about the root harnesk, it trivializes whole swaths of enemy classes.
I used to be terrified of mosquitoes and the spear fulings were the worst of the lot.
After root harnesk, meh.
Even on Vhard, I'd expect that to be like a 40 damage difference or so ultimately
Noticeable, sure. But not a huge diff for a very edgecase scenario
Uff, it was first time I actually did this but managed to kill serpent on ocean without bow or crossbow and managed to get the trophy and part of the scales it dropped with my jump shot strat.
What is a jump shot strat?
One of us! One of us!
Do you jump at it and throw a spear at it or something?
Jumping on the serpent and shooting the last shot on air which should kill it.
we want a video of that
but what weapon
I usually do it with bows but in this playthrough I have not used bows at all.
Spear.
I've also considered doing that with a knife secondary. Would feel cinematic planting the knife in the middle of it's forehead
Yesss, I love no bow runs.
Best weapon
Not a single spear has been lost even in mountains lol.
I once threw a spear out the window of a sealed tower.
And I had to go retrieve it in the middle of the ocean.
I was really surprised I actually managed to find it.
One of the biggest ups is that they float. So it is easy to retrieve after a throw at serpent.
Haha, a little before my current run, I played a game where a group of builder/admins were doing everything they could to delay people from pushing content.
One of the things they did was breaking bows so arrows just... floated in the air, and stopped working entirely.
And then they refused to fix it. 😄
And I'm like, "Yeah, we do that to ourselves just for funsies, that's not going to stop anything."
I once did a run using only 2h melee weapons and spear for only ranged.
2h meaning weapons held by 2 hands, excluding dual wielded.
They did introduce me to the CreatureLevelAndLootControl(?) mod though, and I'm loving that.
Having star levels on things that don't normally have any is new and I died more times in that game than I did the entire previous year.
Would be terrifying if viles could have stars.
Ooh. Hold on, I got a screenshot of a 4 star vile that has a modifier to move 40% faster.
That was a FUN fight. How do I upload this thing.
That would go to https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934384643154001
Okay, I was wrong. It was a three star.
The purple ones move faster. That definitely changed the fight a lot from how you would usually approach the thing. Especially since it could just one shot me if it touched me.
I couldn't bring myself to use a torch to cheese it so I did the fight straight.
Ah, you posted it there.. I pointed https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934384643154001 since it was related to modded content.
Whoops. Should I delete it?
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977 is meant for non modded screenshots.
Okay, done.
But yeah, I really like that mod. I've gotten killed by things like 5 star wolves, 4 star fire infused deathsquitoes.
On the lower end, getting killed by a 2 star blob from full hp because I didn't check before I let it hit me without poison resist up etc.
Another really fun one was a 4 star splitting seeker soldier. Every time you kill it it splits into two weaker copies. One four star split into two 2 stars, which split into four 1 stars, which split into eight normal ones.
Do we get any calendula to keep deathsquitos away?
just burn incense
yup!
spoiler spoiler from the spoiler
Oh, thanks. I haven't run into the spoiler yet in the spoiler. I'll keep an eye out, though.
What spoiler?
Ive been running some iron iron armour. But im wondering if it was a best idea to do it.
I am very much slower.
But I expected that
Something I didnt notice would happen was that all the reduced inventory space I have now from the weight taken up by the armour.
the citronella perfume you can get
is the weight that significant? i never noticed. personally i like iron armor because i use iron brooch and battleaxe, i dont need to move fast i just let things come to me or darth vader walk at them. if your weapons and playstyle demand you move fast then its bad i guess but its all preference
yo guys when is the snow update out ?
When the devs finish it is the current info we have
Well that was a first, oneshotted a troll, with a surprise carapace bolt to the back of the head
its already in the game
u can go there by going to the top of the map
but its empty
I'm undecided. I need mid-late game base. I found a nice continent with Plains, Swamps, Black Forest, and Mountain. I have been itching for a nice base in the black forest. I found a nice, open, pretty smooth spot that I'm loving. But I also think I should have my base in the Plains. This black forest spot is a skip and a jump from a Plains village I cleared out so techncially it wouldn't be a problem since they're close. But I can't decide 😔
Better off not to actually, already explored areas probably won't be updated with new content when it does drop
Yay! I finally have iron and stonecutter!
i'm very disappointed people didn't join in my "maple leaf" emoji to remind the person in screenshots what the maypole is called. shame on everyone.
Woo!
I was thinking maybe a fig leaf would be better.
@plucky hinge
Now your gunna have to collect 20,000 stone to actually build anything. Lol
has there been any updates for Valheim recently. struggling to find anything to play right now and i was thinking of starting up a new go
no, probably valheim will end early access late this year (my GUESS)
Just do it. Pick a weapon or two you never used and only use those and challenge urself with some limitations in other ways(but only that you find fun)
A no food run, perhaps. SHould be easy enough.
Seeing how far u can get without dying is always fun.
There's no way to protect a base near the ocean, huh?
those greylings can just swim around obstacles
anti-spawn like torches with wood around them help, but air raids can still hit you
Do you have a stonecutter yet?
greylings? you mean free bow xp
no
but I did finally figure out how to protect the base, and just in time because a blue troll was trying to attack my base, but I had raised earthen walls on the beachfront adjacent to my base
This reminds me I too also have to do this. Earth wall defence. Don't know why I went with such a big area to defend. Well I know I'll need the space later on but it's gonna take so much time
Did you use crafting tables or campfires to stop enemies spawns in your base?
Oh
I have torches at my main base
and at my seaside base
also at my secondary base in the meadows adjacent to part of the Black Forest
lol
I did put up campfires when digging the moat at my seaside base when I was digging at night
Torches are good too. Did you put them inside a core wood pole to give them extra protection
no
I only learnt this tip not that long ago
my torches are behind the moat perimeter at two of my bases
i just built a raft because finding tin ore on the shore in Black Forest areas takes a long time by foot
I just finished my pier and getting ready for a Tin run 😅
I've gotta do a lot of prep. Get as much upgrades for bronze as possible. Farms, Fermenter, Boar farm
So far haven't left base to go fight the elder 😆
putting them inside regular wood should work, as long as their inside a wood pole and they can't see them...
So their Crafting tables, Camp fires and Torches inside poles for extra protection. Do they have different radius to stop enemy spawns. I think I'm gonna do a mixture
yes, but the radius is based on the torches/workbenches. So putting torches inside any type of pole makes them invisible. Or putting workbenches inside palisades does the same thing.
Cool. Lot of work ahead. Last thing these prevent enemies spawns but does it also work against raids no?
It prevents against raid creatures spawning, yes, but I'm not sure against how air raids spawn.
i think torches etc are circlular, so they can spawn ABOVE
Ah gottcha. Main base is in the meadows so as far as I know no flying mobs there
until you go mountains. then drakes and bats
raids spawn based on where you've been, not what biome you're currently in
Haven't made it to the mountains yet 😅 still gearing up to go to swamp.
okay, you're fine, and mostly if a raid happens you can fight whatever as long as you're eating food
Legend, cheers for the help. I know what I'll be working on next
Love the times rotation in valheim.
Build,
Prep,
Adventure,
Upgrade,
Build,
Prep
Etc etc 🤣
You're probably fine fighting a raid as long as you can deal with whatever biome you're going into
honestly, if ou've figured out how to deal with troll raids, you should be ok
dont forget farm!
your gonna need some carrot soup to take on the Elder
Just gotta grow and hunt dear
when you get a chance gather some core wood from pine trees,.. nice and sturdy with a rustic look
Oh yes the tree farm 😅

Also great to make corewood candles with for spawn prevention.
Thing is my first base was a shack and then done some exploring and found the ideal place in the meadows. Quite big so I can do the boarder around it but I'm thinking they could spawn inside my (village) main base so hopefully I can cover the whole place
That is why the corewood candle is so nice, look around 3 minutes in for the explanation, I myself find it easier to use a normal wood pole as a means to be able to place the corewood correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BBqnn_6X8A
You'll win
Found a trader as well. Can you sell trophies?
No, you can only sell specific treasure items, like rubies, silver necklaces and other things.
As Chaos, Orks, Necrons or something else?
Meant the elder
the boss
Of course as soon as i set out to fight him i fight a bear and a troll and 500 greydwarfs
I know but when I read Eldar I get warhammer 40k vibes.
Murder them all, kill all that he protects in front of it and then give it the sweet release of death.
everyone wants to join the action
like in those wacky bar fights
I am so grateful that the seed viewer exists.
I don't have all that much time to game, so spending a whole lot of time exploring the world to find a good spot to set up a base, look for the vendors, scout for boss altars, dungeons and the like isn't always as fun as fighting, dungeon delving, crafting and farming.
So if I get tired of exploring I at least have a fall back to ease that.
i don't feel like spending more time doing exploration than the actions above
if Eik altar was at water it would be just the sweet spot. Camp there and make a base, be done with it
I feel like vintage story inadvertently trained for the more tedious parts of the game unintentionally
Ive mastered the art of wandering around aimlessly
i suppose that this changes a lot with more people where the exploration part is divided among them
Id imagine so
one issue that i have with procedurally generated world is that it doesn't feel 'real' to me
i don't see a reason to go around that corner to see a captivating vista that wasn't handcrafted by an artist anymore
that is, given that it's all just generated
Thats a really interesting perspective
Certainly and also the amount of playthroughs you have had.
For the first playthrough I always advice not looking anything up and just play the game and only ask questions or lookup when your are stuck for a few days on what to do.
I've got a few playthroughs under my belt and I don't care for the exploration in my solo playthrough now, so I do lookup the map and see where I should be going.
When deep north and later on 1.0 hits I'll probably play with at least 1 person again and then the rules change ofcourse, no using the seedviewer unless you all agree.
Same with the devcommands I use fly for building since I don't care to fall to my death or building decent scaffolding.
With more players can only do that if everyone agrees.
i find new biomes that i wasn't at yet interesting, so that's something new when exploring but not finding 20th black forest
Man swamps is really dreary
I get chills just sailing through it
I tried to get into Vintage story because I do enjoy the grind and unlimited building, but I just can't get over the minecraft style combat.
I want it to feel a little weightier.
Lol fair
I would never dare look at my map lol. For me, exploring and discovering new continents coast to coast is one of my favorite parts. I'd rather be sailing and finding fresh territory than fighting in a dungeon. I love the building and exploration aspects most. If I knew my map, it would suck all the life and joy out of playing for me
Combat is pretty underbaked
that's what i like to do, but then there's certain patience that i have. Was with traders that i couldn't find no matter what and there's some content tied to them
Good god stam regen is really really slow
Are you rested, are you dry and have you eaten any stamina foods?
I thought it would scale with how big your bar is
it's a different perspective, Valheim world is big enough for 10 people exploring it
This was during my elder fight
Had rested and was dry, my foods were the deer meal thing, carrot soup and bear meat
It does, but other things affect it more. Like rest bonus, not having negative modifiers like cold, wet etc.
Are you jumping or running a lot? Or holding block?
sounds good enough
In my first few playthroughs i was also like that, I would sail around find stuff slowly sometimes taking days to finally find the trader, missing dungeons and sailing to another island to see if there are dungeons there, and so on but now that I've done that a couple of times I'm starting to find it tedious.
Well yeah, im trying to wallop the guy
this is something that i wanted to ask about. Is stamina regen constant or it depends on total stamina?
Depends on the food you eat.
Different foods have different stamina regen/HP regen stats.
Yeah i noticed
Theres health regen tick and stam tick as stats for food
i only see hp per tick listed in their description
Shouldve paid attention to that a little more
Weird. It should be on the bottom.
I've been playing with mods recently so I'm not sure if that's a base game thing. Lemme check.
not in game right now but this is what i recall and why i ask, if i missed it completely in the description then shame on me ig
oh so battleaxe also has no multi target penalty
Oh dang, you were right. It was a HUD mod I was using that was giving me stamina stats.
if slash weapon like battleaxe has slash and chop listend in wiki for primary attack, what does the chop means there
damage you do to buildings/trees etc.
Do traders restock
pretty big stagger there on secondary
You can keep buying the same things over and over they won't run out and certain triggers like killing a boss add extra items to their inventory you can buy.
Oh, fun detail for later. You as a character are immune to chop or pickaxe damage.
Ah
btw if you’re lighter does stam drain slower/regen faster?
But your blood magic protective shield is not.
So things like Morgen roll that does 50 blunt and 100 chop and 100 pickaxe will only do 50 blunt to you if it hits, but if it's hitting your shield will do the full 250 damage.
No that doesn't matter, only the buffs, debuffs and the kind of food you ate matter for stamina and health regen.
Except when you are overencumbered then no stamina regen will happen.
Fun
swords seem like the most versatile weapons, good reach, damage, damage type
I almost always fall into maining a spear up until Mistlands when almost everything is resistant to pure physical damage.
The versatility of being able to throw to initiate is a tough one to give up.
There is also a sword in every biome if I'm not mistaken, so you will always have an upgrade.
I prefer the knife though for the lunge attack and the fast attack speed.
Unless I'm playing with other folks. Then that style gets a lil messy cause they can pick up the spear before you do.
I think spear and daggers have the same attack window.
If you can get 4 swings off in between attacks with a dagger, you can do the same with a spear.
Spears used to be way worse when attacking with elevation differences, but they fixed that, thankfully.
Yeah the knife is quite fast and you can get an abyssal razor the moment you have a karve and that will easily last you till the mountains.
Most of the times I do main bow and knife + buckler as backup.
Sometimes I'll also use a mace / frostner.
using knife right now and the speed is amazing, can do full combo in the window of some weapons doing one swing
What weapon type do you like/use the least?
sword is quite expensive to craft and bow/knife are pretty cheap in that regard. Silver spear pretty cheap as well
Sledges.
i should give big hammers a try
All 2 handers except for atgeir.
I think I just use it to look for silver.
i have never used an atgeir in over 2k hours of gameplay, so probably that
atgeir with the reach is without competition
It'd be cool if sledge types had a light combo instead of the one and done slam.
sledges should keep their primary attack and get an even stronger secondary
sledge weapons are in a weird spot
im trying every play through to go anything other than atgeir. its to op
I'd love to see something like the ones from No Rest for the Wicked. A one two three with the third hit being the slam that bounces enemies back.
Stamina regen isn't dependent on the specific food, but kind of dependent on total stamina. It's dependent on how much stamina you currently have (the more depleted your bar is, the faster you regen).
If you have 0 stamina you regen fast, if you have 90% of your stamina bar filled you regen slow.
Having a bigger stamina bar effectively makes the regen faster
it would be nice if stamina food could increase it a little, it can feel so slow in later biomes
There's a lingering stamina potion you can get around mistlands level.
Ya know I never played Warhammer, but I did (inadvertently) go to what I believe is their headquarters a few days ago
Solely because they had a restaurant in there and it was like the only place open in the area 🤣
That's what I thought too. But I got this mod that shows me stamina regen per tick and I'm not sure where it's pulling the data from but I figured it was from the gamefiles somewhere.
how high do you manage to level your weapons skills as you progress?
Depends what I'm doing and what kind of run I'm going for, but if I am doing some challenge type thing, especially if I'm doing a hardcore run, I max bows right from the get go.
My sword is hovering around 40-50 atm at max progress
I'll chop down the entire forest around the starting area the moment I have a TWIG up and go straight to 100.
Bows are ridiculously OP when it's 90+.
that's gonna take a while shooting at it
Yeah, but you kill a troll with 4 wood arrows with a finewood bow.
In 5 seconds.
You get so much damage output that a single troll raid you can kill 7~8 trolls.
Cause you drop them almost as fast as they spawn.
well trolls aren't hard to kill with any pierce weapon to begin with
I play modded so even things like golems have star levels.
I killed 3 star regen golems with a bow in the middle of a Moder fight.
I actually had to ask the other guy doing the raid with me to leave for a bit because him being there increased the golem HP enough that I couldn't outdamage the regen.
Bows are stupidly OP.
couldn’t you have both attacked it instead?
or is only the bow strong enough
That's the thing. He was trying to melee, and a star golem kills you in 1 hit. No matter what.
only an issue if you get hit
That means he need to always dodge roll, which gets in the way of hitting things.
Cause you can't just be hitting things nonstop.
Extra distance means I don't have to spend time dodging, and bows at a 100 skill take a fraction of the stamina cost of any other weapon.
Same gear level, you can get off about 3~5x hits over other weapon types.
Before you run out of stamina.
doesn't seem to be a good balance there
scaling is too generous
I asked a few days ago if theres any evil ass fish/leviathan
the response was no
i was lied to
And the surtling only costs 60 adrenaline and gives you 50 stamina and 10% movement speed.
30 arrows take you 30 seconds with max bow skill, so if you're hitting from full stamina by the time you run low on stamina you get one free boost so you can fire another dozen arrows before having to stop.
I think devs really like bows. 😛
Pro bow salesman at work lol
or it might be there to give people not seeking a challenge something easy to use
Yep. Bows get stupid right around a 80~85 skill level.
that being said bows don't feel OP if training naturally to me
And there's gear and trinkets that push it past a 100 too.
It also trains ridiculously fast.
Because you only have to log hits to get the exp, so you can just sit in front of a target, spam click and it takes a tiny fraction of stamina that pulling normally would cost.
And they went and added a target too where you get your arrows back if you don't want to chop trees and are okay with just training a little slower.
skill levels stop at 100 even with status effects boosting them
I checked. It increases damage.
Going past a 100. You don't really increase speed because I think you already hit max around 95, but I did see the damage numbers go up.
fenris gear with the rippers looks badass
should I train my bow skills to high levels before I can make use of it? I keep on running out of stamina with all the charging up and running to keep distance from target... My damage is abysmal compared to my friends who either tank or pew pew magic
I feel like I have been using them wrong... I never get enough adrenaline to activate wolf sight even
that's neither.
that's a serpent
Bows at very low levels are mainly used for hunting.
Don't need to, but it certainly helps
I mean bows are useable at level 0, especially as they tend to be a safer option than melee. But if you really want big damage then that starts coming when you get upwards of 50 bow skill
It's just not great at killing things, unless you absolutely want to keep your distance.
As for if you 'should' level it up, I don't think so? At least not until you have a chance to try everything else out too organically.
I only do it in specific situations and to break it out as a backup in a hardcore run.
Or if I'm doing something like a no boss run, and I am in Ashlands with mountain gear.
bows at very low levels are used for pelting trolls because engaging them directly is way too dangerous
It's so OP that it holds up in those situations, which would kind of ruin a normal game.
if it ruins a game play differently
Yeah, exactly.
I never get to experience OP bows 😔
Like I keep hearing about that but my experience just leads me to believe bows are absolute sadness. Granted, I have a severe lack of experience
It's kind of a 'get out of jail free' card.
are we talking about shooting golems wifh bows?
^ this
Reason I haven't used a bow in Valheim for years
I guess they were
I was just asking about bows in general
Yeah. It's silly but that actually works because bows are so OP at a really high skill level.
What ingame settings you guys run when playing solo casu?
Like graphics or gameplay settings?
Gameplay I like playing on hard mode and max raids, but I also like putting my own self-imposed challenges
normal difficulty casual dying penalty standard portal rules
When I'm playing vanilla I like to do VH Hardcore challenges.
Most of my deaths are either to wolves or seekers, occasional lava death but if I actually make it to Ashlands I'm usually good.
wow
have you considered just hard and challenge running?
I played a lot of VH, didn't particularly like the balance
Felt better to me on hard with my own rules for balancing / banning some OP or cheesy things
Valheim's Hardcore is cool but it feels like a half-measure to me. I like the adrenaline of really not being allowed to die, so I do self-imposed permadeath
Damn, you guys are crazy haha I was thinking a casual, relaxed gameplay this time.
I think that's another good way to go. I like to play modded too.
Right now I'm playing Hard with CreatureLvl&LootControl, so enemies go up to 5 star levels.
And things that don't usually have stars do.
you really should. it's more fun.
valheim has left its honeymoon and golden age and now the most active server members are long time veterans
Yeah, I have over 3000 hours now.
Everyone should play how they like
At this point I'm happy if things kill me.
Basically that's what I want. I want things to be scary again.
Go for it 😄
If I could erase my entire memory of the game and start over and experience it again for the first time I'd press that button in a heartbeat.
I play with a group of friends up to 3-5 and we do hard mode. I think for a solo run by myself I’m just going to stick to a casual gameplay. Thanks for the input.
I keep all default settings on solo play, but in last co-op playthrough we used 1,5x loot multiplier. It was fair for 3 people.
Same here, solo default settings 🙂
Have you tried enabling fire spread?
I haven't toyed around with it much, but it seems fairly forgiving with building, and I hear you can make fun forest fires and such
One time I fought Yag and it was funny he kept setting the grass on fire, and then ~~walking ~~ crawling into it, causing him to get set on fire 🤭
Fire arrows leave little patches of dirt in the plains, if it didn't make the area around your base look like a meteor landing site after a few raids, I'd like it a lot more.
😆 😆
I killed my first serpent
Was easier than expected
Ofc it attacked me when I was pretty close to shore.
So I easily lured it into the shallows and bonked it with a mace
Dunno what it's weak to.
But my iron mace worked pretty well
They are designed to be fought with black forest equipment 🙂 so swamp gear would work even better ofc.
Aaahhhhh.
Im not sure when to fight them.
As its not very easy to fight at sea.
Unless theres some kinda knack to it I'm not aware of.
just shoot quick, land your shots, and don't shoot your boat.
I find it hard to shoot anything at sea
Aiming with the control stick isn't easy at the best of times. Lol
i use a touchpad
Im on xbox one
Theres is no touch pad. 🥲
should be easy enough to predict where the serpent will be, try aiming there a little slowly
this is gonna sound scummy but maybe practice with bows in minecraft
Lol.
Reflex aiming with a controls stick isn't never easy.
Its why FPS games often add aim assist
Pleaseee, i need this game on PlayStation 😔
deep north is coming.
Is that gonna be the last update
This whole 07.06 date looks like trailer for DN
(still hoping for ocean rework since it's a boring experience right now)
Sometime this year friend, stay strong ✊
Hi!!!
Hi :)
Quick question!
Gotta be quick, I may have to hop off the server soon out of fear of deep north spoilers
Slow answer?
I’ve been playing for 18 hours and still haven’t gotten past the Stone Age. Is that normal?
People play at very varied paces, 18 hours for stone age is fine
I would say yes 😄 first playthroughs can be somewhat slow since oyu are learning everything for the first time
Thank you sir or ma’am
Just enjoy the game, but let us know if you need help with anything (though personally, I recommend figuring out things yourself, it's very satisfying!)
I will lol!
Thank you for your time 😊
I selected the game as beta and launched it, but I keep crashing both in my own world and when creating a new world. What should I do?
the build featured in the latest post...
jesus christ
there are more like it in #1381541790674452571
😭
that's the kinda build i 've wanted to to make for long time but didn't even want to start to try build
I feel so inferior
it's looks really cool
Totally. Lol
I get easily distracted
So it takes me ages to do anything
same...
is ooze bomb any good?
yeah it's useful in some situations
i usually take some with me when i first start clearing infested mines
Great for groups or cheesing enemies through walls 🙂
#valheim-public-test Is the channel for getting help with that problem.
Man valheim is teasing those dead by daylight icon looking achievements. And there's gonna be 50 of it.
There's two places I use ooze bombs. Sealed towers and Infested mines.
Brother youre just getting started... just wait till you get to the mist lands and ashlands
Holy moly, it makes even more sense why the Deep North has taken so long, 50+ achievements is a lot.
Still holding out hope that they'll add some more to other biomes like ocean and mountains 🤞
Are the build of month made in survival or debug? or it doesnt matter
As long as its not modded
true i guess there's no real way of verifying if its debug or not
finally achievements confirmed to valheim!
We did have them confirmed for quite some time now 😄
i mean, its the first time they are announced and showcased
the icons look amazing too, i wonder if they are reworking the whole UI when the game releases
its been like that for quite a while
it doesnt looks bad but i would like to see something new
They do looks great 😄 tho i am not sure if we will actually see these in game, its quite possible that they will be for the library list only
There has been talks about it not even going to have the PTB patch beforehand.
It will remain to be seen, I guess we shall wait what will be announced in 7th of June.
I am not expecting a release date announed then
you think Iron Gate will ever let us teleport our animals with us?
The main question here, regarding achievements, is: Is there going to be an achievement for being killed by a tree falling on your head?
and how about transporting aninals on ships? Karve ships would transport livestock all the time. Longships carried horses too.
Agreed, I am not saying I can take all my wolves with me, but I should be able to take a couple of them on the boat without them jumping off as soon as they see a sea serpent. And I should be able to transport a Lox or piggies
more storage slots on ships would be nice too.
Maybe the ability to expand storage by having some way of lashing a few storage crates would work. So you have so much storage in the bilges, and then you can lash some storage on the deck. Maybe by losing some seating spaces. If you are playing solo it's not too much of an issue, when you have a team of vikings some of them might have to hold on to the mast instead of comfortably sitting down, but that's fun too
To make it more realistic, if you are sailing in stormy weather you must stay at low speeds or you risk losing your cargo on deck.
i would like that level of realism. Makes the serpent mire dangerous.
*morr

dangit
127 iron from this one crypt
Nice I killed myself in black forest
traversed the seas for two hours to find a swamp only to go back to my starting continent and realize its so huge that not only is there a swamp that you can walk to but also a plains. it wasnt all for naught tho, the first swamp i went to had the bonemass boss location and one (1) small crypt
Now you are greydwarf
What's the most carts you've ever taken on a boat? I feel like the drakkar can probably hold 30-40, I'm wondering if people actually do it
Zero for me
I'm playing without portals so I pretty much have to for grausten and stuff
Maybe the twitchers could drop grausten like greylings for rocks, then you could get it from raids. Or even permanent farm using one of the pillars
Stupid question. When valhiem gets a new update do you have to start a new world?
Never have had to before
Nope, new content will generate normaly if you leave the areas unexplored
Really that's so cool. I'd thougt with every update everyone started new worlds and brought their stuff piece by piece into a new map
No no, every new biome had/has a placeholder and the finished biomes appear in its place when they are done. But if you explore that placeholder it may lead to weird generation 😄
I thought people who played without portals were fine with making multiple sailing trips when necessary
Is sailing out of ashlands with a ton of physics objects on board even viable? Those ashland ocean pillars can make things tricky surely
I found a nice straight shot from ocean to ashlands shore and set up my landing camp there. I can sail the drakkar at full speed in and out it's very nice
Just normal generation but without any objects like here: #valheim-help message
Charred fortress bases are so awesome
Ah fair enough, I wondered if that was the case
They make such good endgame bases for Deep North prep
Yep
i do have some ashlands areas explored before ashlands update
Just finished my superstructure, comfort set up and crafting areas going to farm the f out of every biome to fill it to the brim with materials mwahaha
The boat does go way slower with all the heavy carts on top, so multiple trips may have even been quicker. Yeah I don't mind sailing around but back and forth for loads of rocks makes me just want to cheat lmao
I should check one of the older worlds where I had very weird generation near the edge of Ashlands border. Mountain has pillars and floating boulders etc. 👀
Haha yeah, whatever serves you best right! It's a fine line, some would call that an exploit, some may call it cheating. As long as we're all having a good time.
I remember seeing a pre patch mistlands, was so goofy
I have no idea what the first achievement could be...
But second might be interact with a beehive either when it's harvestable or when it's not to see the bees' mood
Third is either build a ship or a longship specifically
Fourth is kill elder
Fifth idk, kill the last boss or something
Last one is probably getting lvl X of comfort or max comfort possible even with seasonals
surely the beehive one is getting the message
Kill a troll unarmed 😄
it's actually fairly easy just takes a bit of time
Aye, if you've got a couple of hours in game, but it would be a decent achivement, not like killing Elder would be worthy of an achi either considering how easy you can cheese him
damn couple of hours, it takes 5 mins at most
Experiencewise, not the kill itself. I'll rephrase, a new player would have issues doing it and it would definately count as an achievement
ooo yeah for a new player it would take a bit
wsg chat
bruh how 😭
unless i'm endgame i always get sniped after like 10 minutes
Dodge and roll, slowly chip away, once you got the timing or block on lock it's not hard, just takes awhile
guess i'm just impatient
i can kill the troll just fine undergeared, but barehanded is insane to me
Just gotta dodge and hit him, also be carefull cause he does his ground smash attack with no delay between his swipes so most people get caught off guard there
i wish they'd buff the other gemstones tbh
there's like no reason to use anything but the lightning one
Jade is great and strong too, but Bloodstone feels just odd in comparison with other gems
Jade is okay in my experience
it just doesn't have the same destructive power of lightning
Blood is off tho yeah
idk if Valheim's really a game where you'd want to be at low HP at all
You can combjne bloodstone with staff of protection to drain hp and still be safe
But since the formula for damage gain is based on hp missing, not a percentage. Mages get a smaller benefit from doing so.
i forgot about eitr 😭
I was fighting Fader yesterday and a combination of a few Staff of the Wild's with Jade in weapons is absolutely insane, Fader simply doesn't move
And it's not a lot. Iolite is just easier.
but then again, even if you were to have an eitr build and use the staff, there's like no reason not to use the other two over the bloodstone unless you just specifically like using it
as in, benefit wise the other two clear imo
Think it's around 20% for every 100 hp missing.
idk, maybe I'm just not utilizing it well
But yeah ive only used iolite
Given how situational it is, all the extra stuff you have to do to maintain it (it's not like Path of Exile where low HP builds can lock their HP at a certain level) it just feels like a lot of work for what amounts to a pretty negligible benefit.
so we use a cosmetic and graphics mod (for better performance) with r2modman but does not affect gameplay, will we still be able to get the achievements with a modded client?
Based on the speech patterns of the Devs, anyone got a clue how far "getting close to 1.0" is off the horizon?
Nope, but we might get some clues at the pc gaming show 😄
"the last development stage" usually means testing and bug fixing, so hopefully it's close
No idea, but i would imagine that if devcommands would disable getting achievements then mods (any mods) would too.
close for any other studio would be months
valheim... is glacial
PC gaming Show?
I hope we get those too lol
Yep, look at the latest dev blog from today, i believe there is a mention there
I appear to have mised that, I'll read it over more carefully
3rd paragraf 😄
last stage of development sounds like a heavy winter implication to me
and again for the winter update it makes sense
i haven't really kept up that much, what's coming in the Deep North?
I've only seen the wolf looking enemies
DRAWBRIDGE
No wolf like enemies as far as we have seen. There will be ||seals|| tho 😄
i mean ashlands had an insane amount of content imo, this being the final update i'd assume quite a bit of new stuff
oh, i started a new run btw
got so annoyed at not finding moder i got impatient and died lol
or well, the main enemies
forgot what they looked like, i just remembered them being freaky looking
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for frost giants
even bigger than trolls
Meh, i personally i hope for not many, if any frost giants, that would be very sterotypical.
i really dont expect the gaming show to be release date related
Might be PS and Switch announcement 😄
Tho i honestly think that year planned for DN being announced would not be unrealistic 🙂
what're you looking forward to then
To whatever Iron gate has in store for the show 🙂
I'm a sad Mac Valheim enthusiast. I can't join the PTB crowd... Maybe Odin doesn't consider me worthy... sniff
...Oooh... I just realized I CAN join the PTB crowd! Nice!
that'd be wild for a PC gaming show
guys i need help, me and my friend just downloaded the game but WE CANT join each oder we have tryed all the way possible, help pls
Are there any Deep North spoilers floating around the Discord right now?
Eeeeh, i dont think so at this time and in this channel at least
Anybody else having issues with armor stands on the PTB? I can't take my armor that is hanging on them.
Just checking before I file a bug report.
Go to id:customize and pick up the public tester role 😄 that will give you access to the channel Annylise posted and there is already a kind of a list of known issues with ptb
kk, just wanted to check if anybody else encountered that problem. Thanks. 😉
Just checked, yep there are some issues with the stands in ptb 😄
Will the price hike once 1.0 releases, I dont remember if thats ever been answered
Potentially it could.
#valheim-chat message
Might, but we dont know 100%
Thats conclusive enough to get my friend to buy it 😈
😄
anyone else hate gathering ashwood?
Price was already hiked in norway 😮💨
I would expect that if the full release price will be higher, then it would be globaly higher 🤔
Used to be 140($15) now its 220($23.8)
here in Poland it's 73 which translates to 20$ USD
For the Devs wanted me to share ok i want a Jotunn frost giant finely deep north boss but this is my option
I want 1% game revenue
How do you plan on getting it?
Asking politely
Respectable
Treating others nicely is always a good plan
If you'd be a big phallus about it, you would surely get none.
Id never

okay, out of curiosity: i'm browsing the LFG channel and seeing ppl advertising their modded servers "without map". that means the ingame map is disabled? i've just started the game a few days ago and wondering how the heck do ppl play in this massive ingame world without a map?!?
building landmarks or using natural ones to guide you
imo you can kind of look at it of a way to slow down gameplay in a natural way (i.e. without trying to impose arbitrary rules on yourself)
perspective of the tree in the sky changes a lot, markers on coastlines, using your hammer to position a build piece a certain direction, etc
Build roads, use ygdrassil for navigation, buid signs.
Its just another challenge. Some people play a combination of no map, permadeath, hardcore, low drops, no portals, or more self imposed restrictions
Some people draw maps.
just sucks when RNGesus smacks you with multiple days of storm and fog when you’re trying to explore or travel… just means time to decorate your base or whatever instead
Personally default settings is the way
yes game is very well made and balanced with standard settings for your first many playthroughs
i see. well, as i said, i'm new and about to do 2nd boss in my first solo PT. however, i spoiled myself accidentally on ytube and realized how massively huge the ingame world is and hence been wondering why the heck would someone impose the nomap rule on themselves? i realize i've only scratched the surface of the game, but already there's so much to do like farming, hunting etc. that not having a map seems really hardcore. respect to those people, but there's already so much going on that doing nomap feels like overkill-level masochism xD
some of us have way too many hours in the game
ya just play standard your first time or first many times, THEN mods or world mods
Or just keep playing standard after 2k hours 👀
I've contemplated doing no portal, but never no map XD The pleasure of a well discovered map is too important to me
I have been trying to learn how to read the world tree tho while I'm sailing and remember which branches point in which direction
2k hours lol. i've played darkest dungeon 1 and xcom ironman impossible for ages but not even those games reached that many hours combined :P
so...my first playthrough...how did you guys do it? solo or into it straight with a group?
I've always done it with a group. Imo it's super fun. Never had any interest in playing solo. But lots of people here will tell you to play solo for some reason
I did duo for a bit then a full solo
My first playthru was solo but I got bored and lonely before I even beat the plains
i totally see the appeal of group play. being alone building a small hamlet with forges, portals etc. feels weird without anyone to share the burden of grind, death and exploration.
My first 1,000 hours were all multiplayer over the years, highly recommended with trustworthy friends...
now I have my first solo world, and I've added way too many constraints for a challenge
I'ma have to hunt some Askvins soon
Only play solo
Went at it with 'friends' at first, but they got bored quick so went at it alone and played the thing solo for 500 hours or so. Tried joining a community server too, but that ended up feeling like a solo experience anyway, so yeah. Now I'm just hiding in the bushes waiting to see if there's some interesting server or group to join
It is pretty hardcore
I only tried it after like 800 hours or so of playing. Didn’t seem like my thing at first but friends wanted to do it.
Turned out super fun actually, gave rise to new fun situations I had expected. Though it does take a damn lot of patience and I’d prob not play it again. No regrets though
I joined a discord with other norwegians for gaming and we did a mistlands srver and an ashlands server, just under 10 both times
Lightly modded solo are most of my hours. Not like 'Overhaul magic' or '100 new items!' modding, like 'All portals connect to each other' and 'Play as my VR Chat avatar' mods
Never actually installed any mods either lol
3,8k hours behind and still no mods installed. 👀
Same. Not even one dev command 😎
See, ive got my rookie numbers
Deep north tomorrow?
Damn the vilebone set is so good in the mistlands. The only downside being vulnerable to damage when bonemass is on cd😭
the game for what it is (for me at the start at least) seems fine without additional mods. perhaps some QoL stuff like a permanent campfire build item to eliminate the need to spontaneously gather 5 stones+2 wood for that emergency mining shack when nightfall approaches...but otherwise i'm impressed with the possibilities so far.
Use crystal heart?
Iron brooch
Good too
That 50hp comes really handy
I'm so in love with the game in vanilla that the only world modifier I usually use is more resources, so I don't end up strip-mining entire biomes and ruining the beautiful view
Any benefit of using the carapace armor? Just got 5 black cores
I've actually gotten so used to seeing my squirrel wielding Frostner that I gave my avatar a toggle to have it in VR Chat XD.
I could only find a fan aproximation meant for 3d printing but I converted it to FBX and did my best on a 'frosty' magic parical effect.
More armor?
Is the carapace set with root harnesk better than the vilebone set
knives are my new favorite weapon. so fast 💨
It is the next heavy armor which you can upgrade for more armor rate.
<--- Giga Frostner simp right here
Idk, i dont really use the root harnesk 👀
Fists rock! AND you get a Sparta-kick as your heavy attack
that's the fires of industry, my friend.
https://i.imgflip.com/1tey84.gif
I main the knife as well
Daring today, are we? Whats next, root harnesk? Huntsman bow?
Better is subjective really. It depends if you appreciate the resistance to pierce from harnesk or the set bonus of Vilebone armor.
yaaas! I am doing a knife + fist-weap only run right now, without shields and it is a blast. Fist Weap to parry and kill, knife to fast-attack and be a gamer 🏃➡️
im just coming around to knives... why does my abyssal razer have 8 parry armor, but my wooden knife has 48 parry armor... MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
What
48 armor
Crazy
Yes, the wooden knife has 48 parry armor
Nothing like kicking in the doors of a howling cavern and giving them all the good ol' chuck norris treatment
Parry with wooden knife, then attack with Abyssal Razor.
That's 📠
RIGHT? There were 2 caves with 10 cultists on my starter mountain. Real close to spawn too. I showed em wassup
Parry armor? I'm sorry, I'm stupid....but does that also mean "block"?
take the parry bonus, and multiply it by the block armor. That's how tanky it is for parrying
sorta ^
Because if that's true, then I'm going to make a wooden knife and use it to kill a bear
see if it can block its attacks lol
oh yes...parry and riposting to death my first bear and later a troll with wooden shield felt so satisfying. really love the parry mechanics here.
First time I parried a troll with just my fists - and it was like WOOOAH - my path was chosen for me. Nay, dare I say ODIN showed me the way. The way of the fist
block armor is only 8, but with a parry bonus of 6x, that goes to 48 when parrying (for both wooden knife, and paws of the bear)
I don't think I'll make the mistwalker. I heard it's pretty good but feels boring to wield a sword
The sickles seem more fun to use
I looked up how to parry....the mechanics seem similar to parrying on "Grounded"
there's a loud clang with a successful parry
dunno about grounded, but definitely felt easier to time than in dark souls or elden ring :P
My "parry" defense is to run away, turn, attack, repeat
I still want to know why the Wooden Knife has 8 Block Armor with 6x parry bonus, while the maxed Abyssal Razer only has 2 Block Armor with 4x Parry Bonus 🥹
that's what i did until i discovered how great a successful parry is - and the bonus damage while the enemy is staggered.
I still don't parry 😆 😎
skill issue xD
Yeah it's great when you get the hang of it. I would just tank lox and askvin by getting a parry in first, then full sword combo to follow up
Nah I play like a real viking, no tricks
ale and anger?
hit and run doesn't sound quite angry viking-like to me >_>
It's much more OP in valheim
Cuz you stagger the enemy to do 2x damage
I'll have to practice
Blocking, tanking, and attacking.
I'll practice with the local greyling troop
Most enemies are pretty easy to parry, there's a decent window
How do you get cooking skill to 90
greylings are bad for parry practice. bears+troll are where i learned it. with trolls the hard way which taught me that some attacks can't be parried like their 2handed smash
first you insult their mother, then you sparta-kick them as they approach, then you switch to knife to lunge at them with heavy attack, THEN you back up ready your fists and give 'em the ol' one-two
Cook a lot
Went back to Valheim, completely without mods. After about two years of playing with mods.
Its so bloody relaxing and refreshing ong
Already got 2 black metal chests full of it😭
you can technically place the food in a cooking station, break it with hammer, and redo it
Im pretty sure just hanging the food on it gives skill points
might take a long time 😓
The real answer is that you probably dont
Damn
Getting skills that high isn't intended
You get bonus food at high levels though
Especially not for cooking lol
And some skills are built easier than others. Cooking isn't one of the easy ones
you can also use cooking stations as your primary source of coal
Hardly matters ngl
burning food gives cooking experience
any one want to start a new world modded
Matters when you're making a bulk of the good food lol
Besides, you'll just lose levels faster than you gain them unless you never die
unpopular opinion prob; but i hate how the bonus arrow or food messes up my stacks
Foods pretty cheap. You'll lose far more time trying to get 90 cooking then you'd ever gain from the bonus food
Crafting a food item gives 0.25 experience.
Placing an item on a cooking station gives 0.1 experience.
Picking an item from a cooking station gives 0.15 experience (Coal included).
Oh ive barely died twice in this gameplay, once in the infested mine, once in a hildir fuling raid
5% of your levels is still a lot to lose
It's not gonna be worth grinding levels for any skill
Damn
Blocking and bows is worth tho
No amount of levels in fishing will ever beat the good ol' walk-inland-and-jank-them-ashore method
I modded out skill loss on death. I don't think its a fun mechanic.
or the "sit-in-karve-steering-while-at-2m-line" tactic
OR the "walk-along-the-shore-after-a-storm" method
True, that's how I found my first level 5 fish xD
I also implore you to try the sit-in-karve-steering-while-at-2m-line method though, it works crazily well
I think i'll stick with the easier enemies 😄
How do you do it
Find a body of water that you have bait to fish in, left-click to toss the line like 2-3 meters while standing on the karve boat, then sit down as if to steer the boat. You can fish and drive boat at the same time
The benefits are that you can catch fish, while moving, while only at 2m line, so it barely uses stamina, and if you press e on the fish fast enough, doesn't even consume the bait (sit back down) [oh and you can slow down the boat to hover schools more effectively]
I found a level 4 on shore the other day
Damn, ty
no problem. User Beautiful Viking was able to catch 11 Troll Fish in under 3 minutes with this method
I have never fished off a boat before. It's always moving way too fast
Speaking of fishing, doing the sort of 'side quest' for the hat was fun!
try it, slow the boat down, and try the sit-in-karve-steering-while-at-2m-line method
I really like when a game asks me to travel the entire game world hunting something for a fun mostly novelty niche reward.
Only thing i fish for in a boat is serpents, but they usually only spawn when i least want them to. Whenever i'm actively hunting them, they hide like the cowards that they are! And last couple of times i've gone in the water to collect the meat another came to chomp at me while in there. Sea is dangerous, maaaan
To that end I also really like the addition of the wooden weapons
Cant tell if sarcasm but unironically same
says the beautiful viking who got fishing hat level 4 before Elder fight. You the GOAT !
Not sarcasm, I was legit super excited at the announcment of how the wooden weapons are found, especially in my very explored world. I had to really treck and explore to find new areas and bring them all back to this like traning area I made
I’m surprised it’s not an option in the world settings
Though personally I like death to have consequences
Exploring is grand. I usually spend the first 20+ ingame days without an established base, just running around and mapping the starter island/continent
I had one of those on reddit, they were sarcastically praising the tedious gameplay, and me and a bunch of other were all agreeing
ohhh I can upgrade my demolisher. Or as I lovingly think of it the panic button
Not quite valheim related, but take a peak at how intense it was to get the "Insane" title in WotLK WoW
I got about 7k hours in wow
Same brotha 😄
something like 270 days of in-game time
But that grind us too much for me
Understandable. I settled for more attainable/obtainable stuff!
Ive got like 250 days on one char
while friends tried to get me to play wow I was gathering the 100 feathers in AC 2, and all I got for it was a damn cutscene lol
You dont need that many feathers for a nice cape in valheim 😎
dang i sailed around the whole world just to find out the yagluth vegvisir was right next to my house the entire time
but i guess i can't complain since now i finally have him
i swear when i first tried to locate even one single deer for their leather they didn't show up for days - after finally crafting the thing, i hear their mocking sounds every 2nd step while walking through the woods...
Anyone explored the entire map in their play through?
im certain that there is a very dedicated player out there who has come close
but i dont think someone got 100% of the map by exploring it
not even close lol, but I've made valiant efforts!
How long would it take to walk around every single island lol
weeks, months?
then still one would have to explore the entire ocean
and im wrong i found a guy on reddit who is missing only small parts
4 years ago so he surely already has it
I'm sure plenty have
A fair amount of people can't stand leaving any fog of war standing
where does the term fog of war come from?
i've seen it used on other games community maps as well and was wondering why it is called that
No idea
I suspect it's a military term, but dunno. I've seen it used in RTS games since forever
ah so i looked into it and apparently it is (or was) a military term for the lack intelligence about the enemy, and in games it refers to the same thing where there is like a cloud covering the parts of a map where you have no troops
Do you guys have a main banner color? Mine is green.
Red and white
Striped
I like to imagine thats the like... flag of my settlement.
Different one for each of my outposts usually
Give them each their own flair
I really hope the great north comes soon, we are burning in the ashland
|| still our 2 corpses just laying on the floor somewhere ||
oh my goodness just saw the saddest permadeath run by snazz lol
Tree death in Ashlands gear?
Soldier squared
a 1 star at that
was this on the beta?
idk i just saw it on youtube passively
i would not do a hardcore game ptb right now lol, 7 of a thing suddenly splitting off
Let me just kill Moder this'll be eas- Timmy's eyes lit up with wonder, as the Drake Mommy in front of him split by way of mitosis into 2, no 3, no SEVEN Drakes, all focusing their icy breath on him, turning him into a popcicle
Jakk's playthroughs are fun to watch
His hardcore permadeath nomap run was quite the adventure
9 videos each 2 hours
Or 8 vids
Not true permadeath but his character reset skills and inventory on death, but he only died a couple times
So Valheim hardcore yea, still impressive
Imma try permadeath on Deep North launch, but if I die far into it imma just keep going
so it's only permadeath run if it's success and nor permadeath run if you die? 😆
i guess all my dark souls saves start as no hit runs then
i can only find a snazzy video where he runs from a lone 2 star skeleton then fails 2 out of 3 dodge rolls to a lone troll and dies XD and says “maybe im washed up”
oh i thought die + delete meant permadeath lol
yeah that's how permadeath runs work
sorry i didnt read the whole text chain, y'all are talkin about 2 different runs
imo permadeath equals character and world deleted
same
yeah so it was streamed on snazz channel a day ago
speaking of scary trolls i just found a 2 star in a cave
Yeah you have to go to live section not videos
oh ok, i dont really watch his stuff, its either dying to a single troll or clickbait nonsense calling vile claws trash
i just saw permadeath run and wanted to see
i've got 700+ hrs in valheim and just today i saw 2 star gjall for the first time
i hope to never see that
I think ive only seen 1 star
i don't think i've ever seen 1 star before
i didn't know they had stars until i saw the 2 star
Yeah they spawn at night in the middle of big mistlands i think
yeah it was close to queen so middle of pretty big mistlands
ohhh snap i found it ya thats lame, soldiers in stairwells are broken, i hate when that happens, never seem them inside each other like that
Usually I delete my runs when I die
But kinda wanna get to deep north and might play with a friend, so think for that run I’ll just try to go deathless, but if not it’s okay
I am far too casual
I wouldn't mind them adding star levels to more things to keep folks on their toes.
i've seen alot of skeletons in burial chambers bugged inside rock in the stair room in this current run
is that the same stairs?
same. im gonna use my call to arms beta playthrough cuz i was just playing standard for testing purposes
Played on a 0.5 resources, nomap no teleport hardcore all liss death server. I lasted about an hour
I feel like drakes definitely would be a lot more fun with star levels.
and its kind of turned into my nee forever world cuz i like the base so much
They just never do enough damage to be more than a minor annoyance since you wouldn't be up there without frost resist anyway.
worst thing about drakes - their sound 🤮
Worst thing is the raid and them killing your tames
listening some audiobook, doing some chill silver mining and all of a sudden my ears bleed
It'd be kind of cool to have a flying equivalent of a Greydwarf Brute.
Just a big one where when you look at it you just know that one's gonna be a problem.
i've started to keep wolves and chicken inside my base house and pigs have their own hog house that drakes can't access
it's annoying how much wolves and chicken love to gather in the stairs thought lol
i just wanna slaughter them sometimes, blocking me from moving
I like to put them in a meadows farm.
Not as efficient, but I treat it like a roleplaying session, visit to the country farm, feed some chickens, do some gardening, pet the dogs hanging out at the perimeter etc.
would be nice if tames would grow breed even if you aren't babysitting next to them
would make sense to keep lox in your plains farm, pigs in your meadow farm etc.
They do grow? Just not breed
I've taken to planting insane amounts of carrots and turnip flowers to make flower fields outside too.
yeah meant breed sorry
I like to have two wolves follow me around the base, fed. So they drop pups everywhere
Haha, I do that too. Also... why do baby chicks push you around and hens don't?
oh its a 2 star log troll too
i was gonna attempt killing it with the atgir i have now.... but naw fuck that 😂
It's weird when I'm trying to craft, and start moving, and look down, a little six inch baby chick is pushing me along the floor going, "Git out of my way."
Has anyone come across a lox breeder setup? I’ve made a wolf one where they drop more then 10m into a pit
I tried one in pine trees yesterday posted in screen shots, they wont eat 🙁
i once saw one in my recommended videos but can't be bothered with breeder setups personally
The small aninal breeders are very easy
i just like to keep it more "RP friendly" or something
I think i saw a lox breeder ages ago on a mountain side
But i bred 30 or so lox by maneuvering them in pairs in the plains using the saddle
wild lox are so easy to farm for meat i just keep couple of lox as pets, never really breed them
I end up there without frost resist 😅
I don't play conventionally tho
You run around up there with campfires trying to get puppies before you get out of the meadows, don't you.
I know your type, I bet you go to to animal rescues to pet animals on your free time too, you dang... animal lover person.
nah pretty normal progression other than that I skip bonemass to avoid the raids he triggers
But I don't use resistance meads because they feel "cheesy" for lack of a better word, to me. Granted that using frost resist mead to start in mountains would be totally fine, but I've just banned those meads all together anyways
i actually love going without too, making fires and resting and healing, feels like intended gameplay imo
and then when a storm hits and your fire blows out thats awesome survival flavor
Just got home from work. I unlocked iron and stonecutter last night, and am now investigating strategies to build the best bases, safe from Trolls.
Mmm, troll proof base is a safe base
Let us know if you want any help coming up with ideas
Ooh, that's actually a great idea for a challenge run.
No potion run would make mountains a whole thing until you can craft resistance armor.
Have to actually be afraid of oozes and leeches, wearing feather cape/harnesk actually poses some real downsides etc.
ya, camping no potions no portals in mountains is awesome survival gameplay
I need to write this down somewhere so I don't forget. The gummy is hitting and I want to remember to try this.
And I'm usually a potion junkie, forcing myself to actually have to do more stamina management would be a fun run.
Yes
The two challenges I do I feel most comfortable recommending to others is 1) No Resistance Meads / No Potions, and 2) Swapping weapon category every biome
its health management too in them mountains youll freeze yer blueberries off if you dont stop and rest
Doesn't freezing also have a huge stamina regen debuff?
Especially having to fight wolves, you let that get too low and you're just dead. I like it.
I've seen islands and saw suggestions of moats and raised dirt walls, but my experience with the moats and raised dirt walls has been...mixed.
well now that parrying is free…… just parry til you have stamina zzzz
Lol, fair. I guess it makes more sense than parrying costing more stamina than blocking.
im an obnoxious chad but i think the best troll defense is a rank 3 bronze buckler and no hesitation
yes, it DID used to make sense…. 😭
I don't think that's an uncommon sentiment. 😛
I think trolls are the first place you see a divergence in the different types of Valheim players.
There's ones that get bonked a few times and then run at em again determined to learn how to not get bonked.
Then there's the other type that goes, "I could just avoid this altogether with a bow."
I do like to plunk away from a distance with fire arrows.
Ooh, should I craft a Huntsman Bow first?
Depends, do you have enough iron to upgrade it right away?
Maybe. I have 51 ingots.
Probably. I'm fresh from the bronze age.
Or an iron buckler etc.
Should I be prioritising a helmet and buckler for protection from squishing?
Finewood bow holds up fine and is comparable to hunstman before it's upgraded.
Isnt the huntsmen bow one.of the best bows. Because of how small its noise radius is?
I usually always start with buckler first.
So I can parry more things. Then whatever weapon I mainly use, then the helmet after that. But everyone has their own thing.
Whatever I get needs to be helpful for crypt hunting for more iron and surviving the overland journey to my smeltery.
Ooh, build that right there in the middle of the crypts.
You go in the swamp, put some raised earth walls in the middle of a crypt area, then just smelt everything and build it right there.
Lol
Doesn't really matter where it goes
Even after you smelt your iron you cant carry the bars through a portal.
You can carry anything you make out though.
And you can just teleport in any other material you use.
I set up shop around 3~4 usually.
And yeah, if you need to. But most of the time 3~4 is enough to make Swamp feel a lot nicer.
Oof. I'm terrible at temp camps, though. I always want them all to be amazingly perfect. heh
A temp camp is still your camp. I'd spend the time making it look nice.
I spend an inordinate amount of time making nice roads and bridges.
I don't spend all day looking at em, but it's nice, and sometimes you just want a chill thing to do while looking at nice scenery.
I like to have on the planteverything mod just so I can make mushroom/thistle roads in the swamp.
You need to carry some back to your main base. To build base components from it.
I decorate it like one of those Christmas neighborhoods.
I usually just run back and forth between the crypts abd my ship.
Then when the ship is full sail it all home.
Yeah, I usually make the camp big enough to support a proper kitchen and everything.
Cause all ingredients can just be flown in.
Not counting nomap/noportal games. Those I just accept the long walk.
Even with the Karve you can take 4 stacks of iron.
Which is a decent haul.
Is the karve or the longship faster?
longship
Huh... I always just figured it was the longship, but I guess I never actually checked.
unless ur turning around
Aahhhh
the karve is the goat for exploring and scouting a coast the longship (imo) is used for hauling ass over the ocean
I was legit just typing something like that lol.
I took over an island like this, but I really thought my tree auto breeder would work. I think the branches count as not-open sky :/ gonna need iron to extend a platform perpendicular to the trunk, thankfully valheim doesnt calculate weight of things on surfaces XD
Dude. I was cleaning my storage out and tossed an old shield to the side. It landed perfectly.
#screenshots message
Lol. That IS good.
one thing to consider. the meta for killing bonemass is an iron mace.
Thats my default weapon anyway. 😋
Oops. Guess I'm going to need to farm more iron!
i never regret upgrading it all the way
smasher of golems 👍
and Brenna
Does 1.0 mean the end for any crazy updates for Valheim. Example like new biome or bosses
Yes
RIP
more like finally
I need more
moar

Mace to the face!
@inner scaffold advertise for another game and also being childish with sexual harassment (he confirmed he's under 13Yo)
I can vouch the same, he joined vc to start trying to advertise windrose and repeatedly made sexual remarks that were completely unwarranted.
Ban
Ew
Has anyone used a stone ruin as a base?
I don't have stone cutting capability yet, but it looks like I can use wood to fill in the gaps in the meantime
i know there are like different playstyles and whatnot
and i don't hate the playstyle per se
but bro one of my friends who plays this game keeps flexing being "better" than me when his whole build is just facetanking damage 😭🙏
i'm tryna master parrying and dodging and shit and his ass just holds M3 and calls me a noob
LIKE BRO
it's not a big deal, but it's just a lil annoying
M3? What does that do?
well, for us it blocks
i mean he picks the beefiest shield and holds down a button and calls it a day
Well master parrying and then you'll take less damage then he does and do way more dps
Then flex on him in return
i mean i already do more damage, but the main problem is the lag
timing's hard when the network's choppy, but it's something i gotta deal with ig
I mean parrying isn't the only way to play, nor do you need to play that way. Tower shields exist for a reason. But anyway, it sounds like it's more of an attitude problem than a game problem. He shouldn't be mocking you for an individual play style
How many hours is to many hours in Valheim with the maximum being 46,584 hours as of today.
yeah that's what i'm saying, like play how you want, but do NOT clown me for doing something that's objectively more finnicky and harder to pull off 😭
anyone need a +1 to help with their world? i play over at NA East.
@wraith belfry #screenshots message There are some very tall mountains on "master world map" and depending on where the world seed takes place on the master map the world can have some of those highest mountains too.
Oh damn
It would be cool to see one of those
When are we going to get something new? Like new biome or anything. Been waiting for too long now.....
gotta keep waiting longer😂
Actively, waiting. 🙁
Something new this year. Not a new biome though just a console release
Is the silver sword the best sword I can get right now before fighting the big dragon?
secretly turns the difficulty up to very hard
Yes
I cry
