this is the better option if the place is swarming with trashmobs that want your ass while you're trying to fight it
blobs especially are horrible if you're going the melee route with an abomination
yall ever mine into a huge copper node and find trees inside?
inside?
I only ever see trees on top of the node
which one do you guys think is better between frost and ember staff overall? i get that its situational in a lot of cases ofc
Ive never gotten that high. Lol
Looks like you in a cave
Maybe you should build in there
Lol
@mild mason how are feasts working out for you on your current playthrough?
Hallo
Hey @silk peak
I like to use fire pyres when convenient
Yeh
Those work well.
Only if theres one about.
English only in this server please
They already got hit by automod twice in the last hour for speaking german lol
ahh gotcha
also- lfg is down there
that should cover the general conversations here for a couple hours
Morning / afternoon / evening / etc.
Is there a way to see what time it is in game?
I mean, apart from the obvious "It is cold".
You can get a general idea of the time by looking at where the sun/moon is. It always goes a straight line east to west.
check your arrow direction on the mini-map.
Dang it. Real world obvious physics strike again.
If you want more precision, you can build yourself a sundial. There are plenty of videos.
Oh! But not so portable.
Day cycle is 30 minute long, 21 minutes day time and 9 minutes night time.
If you have enough comfort to get 21 minutes long rested buff you could use that to sleep through night and measure the rested buff duration to tell how long till night time.
But that is quite restricted way. Easier to look at the direction of the sun.
Oh! I unlocked the root set.
hellll yeahh nice!
harnesk is friend
root helm is high priority if you don't want to keep making poison resist mead, otherwise harnesk is 🐐 bahh
Full set is pretty nice for the bow skill level bonus.
+15 is noticeably different if the skill is otherwise low still.
I was noticing the stats and was going to rush helm. I need to kill more abominations.
Poison resistance from mead is stronger than in mask, just to note. But it is strong enough and nice for saving item slots in your inventory.
and time/coal/neck tails
21.15% more damage and faster draw speed are both very nice
OH! Ok. I was trying to figure out the mead ketill and didn't realise I needed the fermenter.
So this is how I get potions in game, yeah? Is the frost resistance one good enough to help me go to the mountains?
it's near required before wolf cape/chest
It grants resistance to frost, which means you won't get freezing at mountain and cold debuff during night.
wolves will probably be very dangerous
Yeah, the wolves have eaten my face every time I set foot on a mountain, so that's going to be a bit. I'll have to figure out the swamp first.
iron weapons are great for facing wolves
iron atgeir especially
Ok, yeah. So it sounds like what I find in the swamp helps me get through the mountains.
mostly upgraded ones. 😐
Thanks.
spending iron feels illegal idk why
Had a 1000 iron the other day now its less tahn 20...
i prefer iron sword and iron mace
iron atgeir works but if you're over-run stamina runs out
atgeir is better if you'r overrun, the secondary works muhc better with more of them
🤷♀️
only thing thatsaved me in my first wolf raid
Iron is the most commonly required metal in the game, I never seem to have enough
I haven't found iron yet.
At least I am finally close to maxing out all weapons and armor in my originalworld
Just need a little bit more iron to make a few more stuff
never enough iron
weapons are actually lower priority than a shield and food prep table
I ended up blowing through almost 2 longboat storage worth of it by the time I was out of mistlands on my first world
Ooh, food prep table...
that's all the way in the plains, dw about that
and that was before I started making my base look nice and building lots of furniture/torch pieces
no it isn't. 🌝
i think nails is priority number 1 tho
make at least one crafting to unlock recipes, probably ten for biggus boattus
stonecutter also rather important
that's 1 for some nails, 8 for banded shield/10 for buckler, 2 for stonecutter, 4 for prep table, 9 for more nails
all together that's... 24/26
a single decent crypt should cover this assuming you're not leveling anything
yeah.
keyword: decent, I've seen some absolutely pitiful sunken crypts
ran into one that had no scrap piles or rooms once, just the entrance and faux hallways
decent also because some crypts are wack amazing and have 4 stacks of 30 iron
there is no bigger dopamine hit than opening a chest in a crypt room and seeing a 28-30 stack of iron
valheim update when?
when it's ready.

New type of wood it seems like.
Remains to be seen. I'm looking forward to 67° roof/beam pieces personally.
the memes will be insufferable -- --
any new build piece is a good addition
@dim python I have one seed type with Polaris mountain not in Deep North area.
aware this can happen.
it's just rare
It is, yeah.
also
can you share it?
i collect polaris/hook seeds
mostly hook seeds, i don't actually have any polaris seeds
I don't remember it, gotta look it out once I get back to my PC.
👍
Not today tho.
understood.
#memes-and-clips message @silk token I like the combo of Frost staff and Wild roots: slowing them and letting roots do their job.
Fracturing deals very high fire damage when all clusters hit the same target.
I've used frost staff a lot to slow enemies down for ballistas to hit them
Though parry tends to just be better
Not in my experience, I've seen many more trolls than bears so far
yeah i tried melee fracturing too, i thought dundr still did more than fracturing at melee range
ya parrying is life, when i tried against non-star asksvins i shoved them into the roots and parried them lol
That reload speed on dundr is pretty quick. Does that scale with elemental skill?
no idea, i set it at pretty mediocre skill level like 40-50
It does.
I forget how big the map of this game is, I thought my starting island was so big until I decided to zoom all the way out on the map
my mind is SLIGHTLY changed now that i know how easily i can parry things with a staff, but its still better with a greatsword. more fun maybe doing silly magic things, but ill still take just pure hp parry thrust
one plus i can think of is you have eityr so if the biome tries to unfair you you can start throwing down roots
I like the hybrid playstyle. Though my hybrid is like 90% melee 10% magic
Something like HHF or HHE
With a frost staff or dundr or something for flavor in my playstyle
trolls hear you from further away. when you can dispatch with them without too much effort you'll tend to find a little more bears than trolls while exploring the black forest
eyyyyy finally found my 2nd bear trophy
I envy your luck, I've killed maybe 5 bears so far and I haven't found a single one
So far I've probably seen an equal amount of trolls and bears, with most trolls I've seen I end up ignoring since they're only really useful for coins, which have no use for me since I've never found the trader, and troll leather, which I also have little use for since I'm just skipping straight to bear armor
probably killed around 20 now so about on rate
i also just witnessed the power of a log troll for harvesting wood lol
Being able to parry trolls is one of the funniest things in this game
why are bears so OP? why like real life? I became bear sh!t so many times...
I just cheese them by holding out a torch and killing them with my axe
((Two... Hours... Later...))
i died to them like 20 times till i learned their attack pattern
i think their variety of moves is what makes them difficult
If dodge rolling was easier I'd be way better at dealing with them without torches
i didn't even die that much i'm used to well designed enemies because of the souls duology
it really really helped to practice on normal bears though
cause when i found the viles i was scared till i realized they have the same set
dodge rolling isn't easy?
I mean I wouldn't call bears poorly designed but you can't really compare them to DS enemies
(i can and do 🌝)
Not for me, I like just pressing one button and rolling, you have to hold block and press space, I always end up not holding block for long enough and just jumping and getting hit
i'll admit it takes a little getting used to
but then again i'm a goblin that played ds1 with only the keyboard
You can also get a mod that binds dodge to a single key
Or if your crounching a jup will make you dodge
I think it's just a matter of quality, don't get me wrong I really really like the bosses in this game (well, the two I've fought so far), but Fromsoft bosses are just much higher quality, except Bed of Chaos from DS1
i'm comparing the not bosses to other not bosses
bears to the undead parish swordmen for example
#memes-and-clips message good clip, not sold tho
@regal cave what should i do with corewood i get from cutting down pine trees
learned ||wood iron beams|| don't use it
Put vertical ones on top of each other and use the two snapping points on horizontal ones to lay the blueprint for a giant spiral staircase
Wood stair
hmm
what on earth
I am not good enough to comprehend this 😭
is making the stairs out of stones an option? i really like collecting stone...
yes, you need to use iron wood beams to support stone, though
or stone
Followed a greydwarf farm video, and for some reason I still have greydwarfs spawning outside of the kill box
valheim afk farms are not very popular among fans XwX
ive made a decent few, wanna share a screenshot in the screenshot channel?
Dropped them in modded because technically I play with mods, but didnt use any to build it
Looks really nice man. I don't see any glaring mistakes. Your roof looks great. One thing you can do is take away the 1x1 walls holding up the brazaiers, the braziers will stay when you deconstruct the wall holding them. I have noticed that with Greydwarves, unlike Draugr, they dont tend to spawn in obstructed spots. Are they spawning outside-outside the house or under the floor and in weird places?
Had one in the floor, another just inside the building, and some outside outside
Looking at the first picture, the box on the right is the spawner, and the box under the unrooved spots is the killbox, right? Also the kill box looks like it doeesnt have an opening? I assume ur using ||sort mods|| to reduce clutter but I'm wondering if that is blocking them somehow.
I have auto sort that does pick up the typical drops, but I have to manually clean it out sometimes because of epic loot drops
Oh I see the other side of the roof now, that might be it. The roof pieces are supposed to snap into a corner that you make within the kill box, covering the braziers
ooh, day 1000 today
If you want we can move to #mods-discussion since I know how they are when it comes to mods around here
I dont think its a mod issue. Im just throwing out ideas sorry im not much help. If I remember, your roof looks identical to the video, except that you have wall extending down under those roof pieces, does that sound right? Sometimes it seems like my spawners are slowing down, im wondering if it's because it's looking for a place to spawn them, maybe if it doesn't find one (bc of the walls, if im correct) it spawns them somewhere else?
I actually added the walls after as an attempt to keep them contained.
Dang, im at a loss. I would do jenky things until I figured it out. Degrass under what isnt the kill chamber, maybe raise the ground under it (not ideal to fix), extend the roofs out one more. If you figure it out please lmk i still use these
Honestly I think every now and then one just spawns dead in the middle and doesnt hit a brazier so it clogs it up or something
Not sure how to fix that though
i'm new to Valheim what should i do
I would probably play the game
Very well. Almost too well
When that happens they usually push each other into the fires
should i start solo or in some kind of server
Starting a solo world would be a good idea, then you can learn at your own pace
okk
okieeee
I played with my dad, we were both pretty green lol took a little bit of time.. and many deaths, just try not to get frustrated and change the world modifiers to your liking, its your first world afterall
-# 😈
i just deafeated my first bear by myself and lootet my first dungeon🎉
A dumb ahh lox destroyed my longship while I was looting a village in some random plains island 😭
That happened to me too, they really like doing that
It's never happened to me, because I kill everything that moves
elder is hiding from me

Luckily i brought one w me recovered everything except the nails
I always keep an unnamed port at base
I name mine "Explorer" and then I have a "Backup"
The backup more often than not gets used because I delete a portal to move it, but forget to note the tag
hot take
making dedicated unnamed portals isn't a good idea
the second unnamed portal should be for when you forget to name the first one 🌝
Hey would anyone like to play the new ninebyte adventure map with me?
Seems pretty sweet
#screenshots message
@regal cave is this functional?? can you walk up it smoothly?
They've been making it for the last few years and it just came out yesterday I think
You could try asking from people in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
I posted there already I just sent a message here for more visability hopefully
should i delete it? i just googled spiral staircase corewood valheim and took a snip it of the idea everyone uses, i didnt mean for it to look like i was taking credit for it -- was supposed to just show the idea
replace the stairs with level 3 trollfish
you can though
I GOT A BEAR TROPHY!!!
The channel exists solely for the purpose to look for people to play with so other channels won't get flooded by messages looking for people. Sometimes we need to be patient. Mentioning your timezone can also help finding potential group.
Alright
Full bear set looks awesome
How many markers do you guys put on the map? I have 18 total markers put in the black forest alone
All dungeons, mushroom/berry bushes in earlier biomes, important materials, settlements etc.
So a lot.
That's also what I tend to mark down: bases (obviously), mushroom patches, blueberry patches, dungeons, and random points of interest id want to revisit
wIf I zoom out on the map, it's just a sea of white
Rocky clearing POI for example.

Is the jotuns bane a good replacement for the bm axe
It has higher chop damage so it will cut wood better. But they have same tool tier.
Not necessary upgrade, but it is up to you.
no idgaf who came up with what i just want to know if i can walk up it comfortably
anyone know off the top of their head how much turtle shell it takes to fully upgrade the abyssal razor
Total 80 chitin (including initial making of the razor)
even the fabled triple turtle spawn wouldn't do it in one go, ey lol
For just the upgrades 60 chitin
i guess i coulda used elder and made a stronger pickaxe
got enough for a t3 surely that's good enough for now
my landing site is between swamp bf and plains
surely this doesn't go poorly
ok i survived but i would not have called that smooth lol
Should linen capes give stamina cost reduction like clothing items do? Right now they don't really serve a purpose other than fashion.
Is swamp always along a shoreline?
Usually can be found while sailing.
More often than not it is.
elder was hiding but i found bonemass just by landing 😎
I just wanna unlock stone. -_-
you got this
hahaha! namhai with the entrails.
I was trying to pick a swamp emote I could think of
It was perfect.

Would the bear set be good for the elder?
If you can dodge all his tenacle things
But im pretty sure its fire that hes weak to
anyone else every do the greydwarf walk around the house
So I went with fire arrows
Idk if I'd wanna do ranged against the elder tbh
no but i do vibe by my hearth
His thorns are so hard to dodge
Just duck in and out from the pillars
melee with a bronze sword or axe and upgraded bone tower and well timed dodges is better anyway
I lucked out and my Elder spawn ended up stupidly not able to path through the trees around his area.
do you have meads?
Nope
that'd help @u@
So I picked him off at a distance with fire arrows and dodged his spiny tentacle thorns.
recollect hp and stamina with a cooldown
I made the dumb mistake of starting the fight when my rested buff was almost gone.
But I still got him
So hes not that hard.
Oh, so a healing potion of sorts?
a lot like it
That rocks
You'll need meads fof the swamp.
Which is the next biome
people call them potions a lot actually
The poison res one will save your bacon a LOT
I've been to the swamp once in my first playthrough: died almost instantly, boat broken, and I was across an ocean from my main base
The raft death run was horrid.
I had to build mini bases along the way to leapfrog back.
My plan this time will be to make a checkpoint base with a portal in a nearby meadow or black forest
there's optional death penalties that destroy your items
Fuck me, killed by my own pointy stick traps because I forgot to eat. I got bounced between three of four of them in my hare killing field
F
Honestly dropping items on death is one of my least favorite aspects of survival games, I dropped Ark because I was about to fight the first boss (which takes FOREVER to build up to, took me maybe 20-30 hours), and then I died in a cave by falling into a lava pit
Im building my.base on an island. So theres a lot of dropped stone around my island in water thats too deep to retrieve them
I dont want them adding to the lag.
This game at least mitigates it with game mode options, no skill drain, and corpse run buffs
i play with casual death penalty and hope i'm not labelled a cheater 🤞 🤭
i hate dying so much in this game i just play permadeath 😎
I use casual though
I think the best balance is what Grounded does, where on death you don't drop any equipped items, only what's in your backpack/inventory
I use whatever the default is. Lol
The removedrops console command will delete them
Im on xbox.
😭
you have access to dev console on xbox iirc
Well we can't all be decent humans
You do? 😯
it's just ✨finnicky✨
Lol
-# ✨u✨
Ill have to explore it
Ive recovered a lot of my dropped stone by jumping off high staircases. Lol
But theres some i just cant get.
Is there an alternative to fandom wiki for valheim?
you only need like 45 fishing pole casts to give up and use a krom
killenemies
I think my world is broken, my daughter and I have found 6 bears so far and 5 have been 1*
Hard mode.
Lol
Though bears are easy if your holding a torchm
i'm not sure but there might be an area in your world likely to keep the spawning same kind of bear in about the same spot each time they expire
yeah bear algo is overtuned, I've seen them spawn behind me as I'm moving, its ridiculous
Of course if you dont kill the bear, it stays there.
Theres a 1* bear near my copper mining base. I just didn't feel like fighting him when j found him.
So I just left him, and hes still there some 160 days later
I built a base in the Black Forest next to a tiny swamp strip. There was a bear that was holding the line against draugr forays. I let it be.
But now the bear keeps inching closer and closer to my base. Every time I leave now it's a little closer.
Lol
Are there any crypts in your tiny strip of swamp?
Not that I've found.
Theyre usually easy to see with thier green fire torches
Thats where the iron is.
So if theres no crypts, then theres no point hanging around.
That's what I thought. But there IS another shoreline strip of swamp that I started exploring.
I think you can get iron from the Oozer
But they rarely spawn, and only at night.
Oozer? Is that Slimer's long lost cousin?
Yeh
A big yellow slimes
Splits into two small ones when you kill it.
I'm boating along the edge of this swamp to see if I can spot any green fire torches.
Found a random boat on the edge of the shore.
What the...ok, this swamp extends into the ocean. There's a random guck tree in the water on the opposite shore!
Any swamp over there?
always a good idea to mine or chop the guck for later
hmm
what do you truly need the guck for?
that you can't get from an abomination
Turning down the lights
Draugr Fang bow and upgrading it
Ahhh cool. I think I found the green torches! But it's getting dark. I found a Meadows butting up against it and landed there to put up a shack.
Excuse me while I overthink my little base camp.
never a bad thing to plan for the future
Uh, why is there a t-shirt on my map?
Screenshotted Looks like a t-shirt. heh
#screenshots message
sail over there and go to that icon
make sure you bring a portal with you
and when you talk to her, touch that table that is right in front of her
What goes in a fermenter?
Mead bases. Make your self a mead kettel and you'll be able to craft them.
Any cool world seeds out there? Or worth looking for?
Guys do you think fenris or wolf set is better?
Luckyyy
I got level 3 troll rn, and idk what to upgrade to
wolf or troll?
wolf or fenris i meant
Didnt want any of the swamp armour?
I got through swamp just fine with troll
This is my first solo world, and the furthest Ive ever gotten was just beating moder with a group of 3. I already knew I didn't really need iron armor.
Im just not sure whether or not to go for fenris or wolf
I think I have all of the stuff for both
Damn
I don't think I have a mead kettle unlocked, what do I need to build it?
have you mined in black forest yet?
Yes
I'm about to go fight the elder, meads were something I wanted to get before I do so
you got the forge?
Yep, I have just about everything up to this point unlocked
its just copper and tin, so it should be there
As well as leather scraps from boars
Oh, really? Guess I just missed it in the building menu
Oh I see it now, what kind of spelling is "ketill"?
Viking spelling
If you made it through swamp with troll armor, sounds like you value speed and are decent at dodging? I think you should go with the Fenris set, personally.
Tbf tho, I find I die a lot in mountains by getting overwhelmed/surrouded and not having the stuff to tank hits
Man, you lucky
Odin just jumpscared the hell out of me
Speed helps you the most in mountains.
I still haven't seen him yet
You lucky too
I mostly fight without dodging. (Parry/block)
So i should prolly build the iron armour. 🤔
Might be a dumb question but how do I break beehives?
do damage to them, bows work well, spear throw...
even build up a stairs and stab em
then you can place your own queen bee with the building hammer
I've tried all of those but they seem completely incorporeal
strange, maybe try re-logging and logging back in, the natural bee hives should break after a moderate amount of early-game damage
So just a loading problem you think? If I unload and reload the area could it go back to normal?
I hope so... at least if you're dealing with an invulnerable bee hive...
Also my starter island is gargantuan
So big I ended up putting two bases on one island just so if I die I don't have to walk for like 30 minutes back to my corpse
#screenshots message Look who's on my starter island
Do you have a farm?
For vegetables?
Nope, but I do have the recipe for a cultivator and carrot seeds
Its a good idea to build one.
You can access more powerful recipes with the addition of vegetables
Im a little bit disappointed by what the merchant has to offer
The belt is the main thing you go there for
Cant remember what its called
Gives you an extra 150 carry
this is so me
they should reduce haldor's max spawn radius imo
I still haven't found him
I think i need to just get in my boat and circumnavigate a few islands
So long as j stay away from thr Plains I should be pretty safe
I learned the hard way never use a raft in the swamps
This is such an easy game to get lost in
Leaches will just eat it out from under you
... Would be nice if I could learn shaman magics from greydwarves. Who wouldn't want a stupid little healing spray?
Me
you get the salt spray
dies 💀
bet you wish you had a healing spray now!
... But yeah, it was a silly suggestion, which is why i did not post it in the suggestions channel
Is anything weak to poison?
That suggestion tab can anyone message in it? I tried but it instantly vanished. Does it need to be moderated?
as a mage user what's my go to farmable foods because ticks arnt exactly easy to come
need to put 💡 emoji in front of your suggestion, read pins there
Ohhh ok thank u. It says no lists i made like a paragraph talking about an ocean expansion and I wanna post it but I also dont wanna accidentally break rules.
Sorry very new to discord servers and stufc
afaik if you put a list there then it's harder to vote on the suggestion but if you have a big paragraph then i wouldn't worry about it, it's not like you get banned for it
that is if all the stuff that you're writing about is regarding one topic then it should be fine imo, people can go nuts with their downvotes but it shouldn't matter
theres is 30 mins per post slowmode so if you had to break it down into several different suggestions it would take you some time
Ok ok that makes sense thank you oh helpful one i shall build a shine in valheim to you
What does the ♻️ symbol there mean
It means something has been suggested before. Not a negative thing really, just a way to keep track if things are being frequently suggested
Fandom Wiki is the official wiki.
And the amount indicated by the ♻️ symbol means how many times it’s been suggested? Does a bot count that?
No, those are just votes from server users.
How many people have seen the suggestion before in some form etc.
Yikes
concensus factory
I wonder how much modding would be needed to turn valheim into a city builder.
Most frost cave mobs
Really now? Fascinating.
People like to cheese them with poison bombs
fills frost cave with beehives
Oh yeah that'd make more sense
I just use them to fend off murdersquitos
Oozer vial clears them quite comfortably.
is there something wrong with crystal battleaxe?
not sure how effective is spirit damage
Spirit damage mostly affects to undead and fenris type enemies, most others are immune to it.
so weak as a general multipurpose weapon
Battleaxes? Their stronger suit is against groups and crowd control with their staggering abilities.
One example before Call to Arms update: #memes-and-clips message
no, i'm talking of crystal battleaxe specifically
Hello everyone.
I bought this game a few days ago, and all I can say is that this is the best game to play. It's the absolute best thing after a hard day's work and a perfect game to unwind. It doesn't require you to buy anything in-game—just pure gameplay and fun.
Thanks to the developers of Valheim, they deserve all the best things in life
Wait until you get into building.

@tacit crystal I'm trying to build something, like a house for myself. I'm not that skilled, but I am persistent 😁
Don't get discouraged! The structural system the game has gives some nice challenge for building which is rewarding once you get into it.
You will also get stronger materials to support your buildings higher little later.
@tacit crystal I can't wait to reach that level in the game. I hope I'll be good at it.
Thanks, my friend, and I wish you all the best ☺️
Building tips ever needed, there are channels dedicated for that part of the game, like https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202303747053846608 for example. 👍
I mean most the mountain weapons have spirit damage. Does feel a bit wasted in most situations, but I think the weapons honestly have enough physical damage to be straight up upgrades from swamp weapons, then the spirit is added on as a bonus
Gotta say though my favorite mountain weapons are the two melee without spirit damage
And remember: everyone starts at the bottom on things.
imo no, why what would be wrong with it?
i don't know saw something of that sort
spirit damage not doing much
Welcome!
personally id rather have raw damage than damage over time, but spirit damage works against 2 mobs in the biome after mountains and the boss too, also lots in ashlands. but even without the spirit damage crystal axe is still a damage upgrade to iron
some mobs in mountain also take spirit damage, tho the axe is likely to kill them before a damage over time matters
Thanks
Ok. Ready to start new adventure. I have mats for ONE portal that I'll be taking with me to the t-shirt. I am thinking I'll rename my portal home to whatever I name that t-shirt portal.
Ah, wait. No. I do have more cores to make a second portal.
Just need to farm a little more finewood.
What’s a t-shirt portal?
A portal to this.

Maybe I should take a break. - I tried to go to sleep on a campfire.
Sounds like you need some real sleep my friend 😂
I tried but got burns all over my back for some reason
How can you sleep when your beds are burning? >_>
Question for the devs regarding game mechanics - why are the forsaken something you summon rather then just find in the wild?
Lore-wise, the queen is the only one that makes sense, since you don't summon her. You just unlock the lair she's locked in and you go kill her.
If we are sent to that realm to kill the forsaken, why wouldn't they already be roaming on the map? Why do we have to summon them to kill them the first time?
Just thought of this, I'm sure there is a proper answer. I'm curious.
Poorly
how high can you put ballista and it still hits the ground mobs?
No real thoughts abouth why wouldnt they be just roaming in the wild from lore standpoint. But from gameplay perspective it would be kinda weird to encounter 5th biome boss while randomly sailing around plains in your black forest gear. 😄
But for why you need to summon them my personal thought is that you are simply beneath their ability/desire to notice you so they dont seek you out outright. Only after you anger them/make them notice you via the sacrifice they come to you.
Perhaps they're all fighting at the barrier of the world above us to try and break through. When we summon them, they have to come and once we kill them that's fewer able to attack the barrier and so on until there's none
I know folks whom skip biomes for the challenge of it, me included.
Yeah, I could see it from the perspective of 'god' where you have to sacrifice to get noticed. Just an interesting thought.
Mayhap. We may never know.
What are the placing rules for spice rack? I unlocked it and am trying to build it in my base next to my cauldron, but it's red no matter where I've tried.
For sure, i know a few people who enjoy skipping bosses/biomes 😄
But that is not how you are intended to play the game.
Place it from bottom of something 🙂
Still no luck. Do I have to hang it from the inside of my chimney roof or something? Has to have LoS to the cauldron?
Has to be near the couldron, and hanging from bottom of something. Thats pretty much all
Ah ha! I I was able to stick an item stand outside the cauldron area.
A bit sloppy, but it works.
#building-screenshots message
I can now make a muckshake if I want. Uh...My muckshake brings all the draugr to the yard?
Sup vikings
Why do we need to put a roof on a workbench to make it functional
Helps to be dry when you're working?
Also helps to not AFK in fire.
Apparently I forgot to pause when I tabbed out, and now I have no idea where my body is.
any upd or info abt 1.0
no
Waiting for a new "word from the devs"-may
would suck if your tools were wet i suppose. also nerfs the ability to just plop down a workbench to start insta repairing tools ig
interesting, I've been trying to avoid those 😅
Oh great. Wind shifted once I was out on the ocean and right next to the swamp.
I'm a sitting duck.
Afraid of spoiler 😅
I think if 1.0 gets a date we will all know this 😉
The gods have heard my pleas! The wind has shifted.
🥳
Unknown, but the next big update will be the conclusion (1.0) to the games story, adding the Deep North biome
Yay! I found Hildir and set up a portal to her.
Did not realise there was a use for all the coins I was finding, though.
I kinda want to...run up this mountain and shave off all the tumors.
#screenshots message
theres a hildor and a haldor trader.
Is there a Hodor trader? >_>
Along with a bog witch who gives you some epic stuff
I need a new door.
still dont have a deep north update....
None of us do 😄
-# Except Smiffe ofc
You could probably get one on the modstore somewhere
Though for the official one we'll have to wait
Holy moly! I just found Plains right next to Hildir.
Run away! Run away! 🐇
This is incredible! I have meadows, swamp, black forest, and plains all right next to each other here.
I was about to ask what will most likely one-shot me as I step unprepared into a new biome, and I spotted a "Deathsquito" hovering nearby. Yeah, Imma go back over theeeeere for a while.
thats extremely common actually, 90% of my permanent bases are next to her because i get meadows and plains to farm in
I have a portal set up to her in a mini shed.
Thank you whoever suggested last night that I do that!
How is it going for everyone ?
The ground is shaking, but I'm at Hildir's camp and I don't see any trolls except one waaaay in the distance. Does this mean this base is gonna be safe??
i cant believe i'm saying this..... there's too much iron in this swamp
ive gathered like 400 already and i got like 5 crypts to go
All the traders have a zone around them into which enemies can't enter'
But somehow the odd one gets through for me so idk
Wow. This is so nice.
"Waiter, my steak is too juicy."
my exact thoughts lol
But nice, you don't have to mine it all yet, only when you need more.
i feel like i may as well just stack up my boat and head off for a mountain base now
Are there no more "open" community servers?
No idea, all are run by players themselves, so depends on their whims pretty much if they leave the password public.
aaaand it had the turnips? damn this is the most stacked swamp of all time
"Waiter, now my lobster is too buttery."
-# ||
||
should have dropped it
ugh. I'll have to go back to that spot and hope I can find it.
it has a sickly teal glow to it
That was a looooong fight.
Hi I'm looking server to play
#1024264966712340510 has listings and you can make your own, dont forget to add tags if you make your own
They’ll only get longer 😈
I looked all around where I killed the elder and I do not see a key. 😭
well, is there a chance you sorted it into a chest without realizing?
or maybe youre like me and it went into your hotbars and you always forget to check those
I love AzuAutoStore for that, it has a chest search function
...sorted into a chest?? I...didn't know that was a thing.
And hotbars, I just have my 1-8
i just meant put it into a chest without really registering what it was, but there is a quickstack option now
THere's mods that autosort, Smart Containers in particular
ill have to look into that when im looking to play again, that does sound nice because i do 'dump chests' when i get lazy and sometimes this makes me lose things
Oh. I have no addons.
AzuAutoStore makes containers pick stuff up off the ground, if an item already exists in that container, and then I use Smart Containers, which automatically reroutes loot if you ctrl-click, it's a huge time saver
that would (hopefully) make me a lot less lazy might be a lifesaver
I misplaced my rock. I don't know where it is but I'm certain I picked it up.
I can build the mysterious rock.
I'll have to look trough my chests or run around my base and see if I build it already in some obscure spot and didn't remember becausde I was almost falling asleep or so.
2 star boars drop 4 meats... holy frick...
now think what happens when you breed 50 of them
I THINK thats 200 meats
If you breed 2 star boar with 0 star what do you get?
Half the time 0 star baby and the other half 2 star baby 🙂
Depends which parent actually gives birth to it, 0 star will produce 0 stars and 2 star produces 2 stars
Interesting, could have been 0 to 2 but this is likely the same in the end
Don't think I've seen 2 star
They only have 1% chance to spawn 😄
Can you somehow transport a tamed 2 star to base?
Easiest way to transport boars (when on the smae landmass) imo is when they are not yet tamed, since they will actually run after you on their own. When they are tamed its slower but safer, and you can use either harpoon or coridor of fences where you push the boar. When on different landmass you can take them on boat, but its risky.
does anyone know why sunken crypts literlly dont spawn in my world i looked for them i 5 swamps and nothing was there
They ouy were just really unlucky 😄 they spawn in every world. If you continue exploring then you will certainly find some
Harpoon is doable
but like wheres the sweet spot for big swamps cause i just skip the really small ones
Just boat till u see them from water
Is there something special you need for image perms here? Or images just blocked?
Give me your seed and I can look it up on https://valheim-map.world and give you a general sense of which way to go, without spoiling anything else for you
2000 to 6000 meters from world center is where any swamps can generate 🙂
THERE ARE SEEDS IN THIS GAME
map seed, yes
And you can use the website that will show you your map, but it will rob you of the fun from exploring
-# Even normal seeds...
where can i look it up
Yeah that's why I'm suggesing they post their map seed here and someone can look it up and come back with "Go northwest of the spawn, half a day's sail" or somesuch, without spoiling anything else
It's on one of the loading screens I think
like to the right from the name
You can see it in the menu when you are picking the world you want to play on. Or if you are in game type printseeds into console
Yeah, where you select the world to load into
can i send it on priv cause i cant send pics here
oh sure
smol swamps are usually the first ones you run into. for me once I start seeing plains I know I’m in an area where a useful swamp will be around
more often than not you can tell from pretty far away though cause swamp terrain is easily identified
if i see a big looking swamp I’ll always park and run around it
is it normal for my 2 star boars be higher maintenanc and not parent as much per cycle
Not afaik
i think the biggest problem is the space between two boars
if i had four happy boars in the long barn i'd probably do better
Do you mind making a auto breeder or do you want to keep it au naturel?
if you don't mind the autobreeder I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T2aKnEMKd4
I built a breeder tower, they're freaking awesome
Got wolves and boars up there
I didn't bother for lox though, I'm alrady swimming in lox pelts and meat
lol I have so much lox meat I'm just turning any more I get into coal now
And placing lox rugs everywhere
is the autobreeder a breeding tower?
Same, here and I do one for chickens as well.
I make 2 chicken ones, 1 for auto farming chickens, with a fire at the end so they hatch and then when they grow up they fall through a floor and then go pop on some spiky fish.
One for eggs.
if i was farming chickens i'd just spam eggs in a small spot and call the might of thor ⛈️ ⛈️
It can be a tower or a building over a pit, or a 2 story thing, you can change it quite easily.
i might not be farming boars much longer for it to be practical 🫠
Are greydwarfs sleeper op? I was running around black forest testing out dundr when it dawned on me how much better greydwarf drops are than other biome mobs. They drop wood, resin and greydwarf eyes... 3 items you use and need throughout the entire game. Compare that to seekers and charred bros which drop nothing but obliterator food
Also works for wolves.
Yeah I have an auto egg producer and I just light a brazier over top of it if I want chickens
Indeed they are, I always make a greydwarf spawner farm.
I make them just because farming the eyes for fuel is too time consumingm, so I can afk it while I make dinner or do laundry or something
I make one were the eggs roll to a warm covered spot.
Then the eggs hatch and the chicks can roam around till they become a hen and when they turn into a hen they drop down and get killed by a spiky fish.
No hassle in killing the chickens.
lol I like my murder sprees too much
Nothing like slaughtering an entire barn full of chickens/boars/wolves
Before I had the auto setup I worked with doors to push them into fire and that was also funny to hear.
hahaha I have a gaint brain perfectly intact, floating in midair, because I popped the skull around it
lol idk how people do it, I’m always swimming in boar and wolf and would never bother taming them 😅
i don't go out of my way to hunt them and tbh now that i have a farm i don't seek them out in the wild
deer 😤 you undomesticable bastards
What biome were you at currently?
looking for moder very slowly
Okay, consider easy trick for gathering deer pelt and leather scraps in biome after mountains: ||at the villages, break roof tiles and tanning racks||.
i have enough hide... and enough meat tbh..
By that point in the game you have little need of either
it's just that i have to make a point to go out of my way to get them dead for this supply to stay full
almost June, I hope Deep North will be released soon
I'm about to rage quit. I apparently cheezed Elder last time with a stuck spawn and a bunch of fire arrows. But I also apparently didn't get a key from him. So...I have to kill him again and now the entire area is littered with fallen trees and rock rubble. I'm out of arrows, and he's only at 2/3 health. 😭
You could just spawn in the key maybe?
wat
Melee him, it is quite easy.
If you stay close enough he never spams the ranged attack.
It is? Oh boy. I hope so.
Close range attacks are quite predictable, which are dodgeable/parriable.
Any melee weapon suffice, there is no weaknesses or resistances against physical damage types.
And now a bear has joined in.
fader down! went in blind, 2 deaths.. 1 was like "wtf just hit me" 1 shot, the other i dropped a meteor on my head with trollstaff lol
he's def easier than queen
@sly verge Awesome! I was gonna post about killing a bear for the first time, still in leather armor, but now I'm just gonna sit down. lol
don't kid yourself bro, that is an accomplishment
bear dont belong in 2nd biome for sure
right??!! Harder than a troll!
i had 4 shield maidens with bows in my group, made it possible. Bears miss alot when attacking on a steep slope. 😁
brought the whole harem
Yes, because something that runs away from a torch, or blatantly runs between two trees and gets hard stuck so you camp fire under him is hard 😂
(ive also killed him naked on day 1 with fists before too) Once you learn the attack pattern, anything is easy
I mean the hardest fight in the entire game consists of the boss just passively walking up and down the stairs, if you want to put it like that.
I'd say the bear is a tougher fight than anything in the next 3 biomes
Thats because it was a later addition to the mob pool vs the original mobs
If it was added with rest of mobs, it would have two attacks 😂
A swipe and a slam like a troll
Which means, before "final release" do the old mobs need attack patterns/combos updated
i LOVE bear, perfect design (except for when he shoves you around and lifts you into the air so you can't dodge or flies off a cliff trying to swipe at you) but the design of weak attack and strong attack in the same mob is genius, he's so interesting to fight
imo bosses too, maybe only elder and bonemass particularly, those fights are so boring they have one melee move
you're just headed to make a new home in mountains with all your iron? but going back home to farm and cook and stuff? why bring that much iron to mountain?
#screenshots message wtf is this elder spawner location???
yeah but how will i possibly get back if i die
i leave a farming base near spawn and then make upgraded bases per biome
just dont die 🧠
Shit why didnt I think of that???
i leave all the upgrades from the previous biome at each base though so i dont need to stick to one
you didnt bring a portal?
Im gonna leave a checkpoint base nearby but I have no idea where since it's so isolated
I did
well thats how u get back then
yeah if u have portals on, your base is your base, and just drop a portal before you do anything crazy
and DONT FIGHT NEAR IT
I dont have much of an option
move it lol
i usually make a little hut with some camfires around it for each sketchy portal
The elder won't swim, will he?
he will
no running away to your portal just fight and die like a viking so he doesnt smash you AND your portal
I'm no coward, I fight until the end
then doesnt matter if he swims or not XD
So Ill put a portal at the furthest point that is still easily accessible from his spawner and put any food in my main base should I (most likely) die
nah he's super easy
I died like 10 times the first time I fought him
oh lol. how?
I was mostly fighting him ranged and his thorns attack is super hard to dodge, it wasnt until i fought him at melee range that I killed him
gotcha, i figured ranged. most people just play ranged and its hard and they think the game is realy hard so melee must be harder when most of the time it's easier
Alright im starting the fight, wish me luck
God knows I'll need it with this generous arena
A bear literally JUST spawned ON THE ISLAND
It's an elite one too, one star
its a nice warm up, chop him up, parry his swipe attack
I just held out a torch and killed him that way
😩
So it turns out I need 3 seeds when I thought I needed 2, so Im going back to my main base and finding another one
So, I just got the third seed and now it is so stormy the ENTIRE elder island is getting submerged in waves
an epic battle to be had
First try elder let's fucking go
It was a close one, his stomps have a deceptively large aoe
It was so badass fighting him with the storm in the background, the storm also cleared the moment he died
Really felt like an elden ring boss with how cinematic it was
Just hide behind the unbreakable stone pillars to avoid his ranged attack
"Hallon cuddles you"
I don't think I'll survive these cuddles.
That's what I did, I mostly just attacked his feet with my melee then retreated behind one to heal when I got too low.
Very fun to fight in melee imo, ranged it less exciting. I kinda like all the bossfights
Both times Ive fought the Elder so far have been so cinematic: my first time, after the fight was done there was a gargantuan crater around his arena, and this time the storm made eveything look so badass and occasionally submerged the entire island in water, and when the Elder died the storm cleared at the same time
It was super fun both times, when I fought him ranged I had to hide behind trees, rocks or other obstacles every time he did his thorns attack, and towards the end I ran out of arrows and went berserk on his feet, and when I did it melee this time he was a lot easier but the fight was elevated by the insane storm
How the progress about deep north?
when we know it will be in #news channel and the devs are also possibly giving news about something (don't know if Deep North related or not) on June 7 there might be some news then
When we actually know a date when its coming it will be all over the internet will probably hard to miss, but no news yet
i'm considering going joelikki mode for yagluth this time around
and making a crystal baxe
i'm not a super fan of the swords anymore, polearms are gonna be my main
gonna lightning poker the ashlands if i get there this time around
or..... how does everyone think the vile fist weapons do vs yagluth?
there i was.... hoping for wolves to show up so i could make my wolf cloak
i should NOT have asked.... the hunt was on
It’ll do just fine. Not the strongest weapon to use against him but I’m sure you’ll still have a great time.
i stg i found some kind of mountain hell spawn.... i've fought 3 golems trying to mine one vein. and like 6+ drakes/wolves
Hell yea, that sounds like a good time.
no i am straight up NOT having a good time
that being said there are liek 5 veins right here so i'll have to accept it
Atleast you’re finding them?
I’ve had to find 2 mountain biomes. 3 silver veins total between them
yeah i'm definitely counting my blessings up here
sometimes they are wayyyy spread out and it sucks a lot

can i stop the party somehow 😂
Important to say if you have mods etc when asking others to join ur game
Moder Assist anyone????
Will fight multiple times if you have eggs to sac
Vanilla world
@analog hearth ?
sorry I can't
I know the feeling though
bout to start a no ship run
js docked in the ashlands for the first time, absolutely brutal
Going to use cart to go Ashlands? Haha
I don’t think you can go Ashlands without ship first time unless I missed something
i think if an island were to spawn close enough to the ash barrier, you could bounce between spkes
I have never seen a spike you can swim to from a nearby island on the 25ish seeds I played and the 200plus I looked at on map viewer, easy to get to with karve even yes but not swimming through heated water
rip
I’ve gone to Ashlands a few times with Karve pre queen
how painful was it
Sometimes okay, sometimes the spikes were further apart and it took ages to build a part to jump across and get closer to actual land
Sometimes attacked by 0 serpents until I made it to land, sometimes by about 6 or 7 lol
Bring at least 4 portals lol
The only boss that locks lots of progress is Moder, there is workaround for all other ones
Doesn't the elder drop the key for the crypts?
Yes
Than woudn't the elder lock the most progression since iron is the most essential thing in Valheinm?
How so? I just died to Moder bc my bow broke ;-; what’s he holding me back from?
You need his drop to make quite a lot of important stuff
No you can get iron from Oozer, piles of iron buried in swamp, and lots of iron in 6th biome and some in 7th
no
Depends on setting or portal type.
Stone ports yes I think
Well shit
There is a lot of food that you can't made without Moder drop, there is also a metal you cannot process without Moder drop, and this will in turn unlock other crafting station things etc, it locks from a new (spoiler) playstyle completely in 6th biome as well because of that, its a ton and no workaround
The island I put my swamp base on does not have a nearby black forest I can get copper from
just sail some down
I turned on teleporting everything portal after my first time sailing back with ores from the swamp
default settings will not let you teleport metals(ore and bars) and also a few other items
It was such a chore and a massive waste of time of doing nothing since traveling in a boat is boring asf
I put a smelter in my swamp base and I just use a portal to transport charcoal
But I'm gonna need to ship over the copper for a forge
I often find new base spots, interesting biome borders, meat from sea monsters, chitin and other stuff sailing, and love the atmosphere on the ocean
Chitin you run out of usages after the first 3 ones you find
Serpents spawn once in a blue moon
It's nice but I most like watching my home island slowly fade away and looking at nearby islands
yes but sometimes it takes me quite long to find the first few levi especially on a server
True enough but I think the Ocean biome in general is severly lacking
love that too or coming home with a big haul
The swamp is also very pretty, the tree monsters scare tf out of me though
its quite harmless tho
they make good armour though, also they can be cheesed with fire arrows or fought well if you eat good food and have a decent slash weapon, bear claws or erly axes or even bronze sword is okay to fight them with
Well I happen to have a lvl 3 bear claws and full bear set
Im just scared of them because they're big, scary looking and do not stop chasing
there is also another really advanced trick... if you are near a fire geyser thing
if you manage to parry one while its standing on a surtling geyser thing they will literally melt in seconds
Who knew the tree would die to fire
its very satisfying haha
maybe not super easy to perfectly pull off for a new player without getting stuck somewhere or panicking haha
Also idk how I could return to other survival games after playing Valheim
This game is the perfect survival game in my head
Its possible haha, but it raises the standard a lot, many other survival games are not good enough to compete imho
also lots of people find biome 6 and 7 too hard even on normal settings
Well so far it's been just about everything i love about survival games
Except losing everything on death, that's the one thing I despise about many survival games
Exploration and base building are great and also the fighting is nice, you can set it to keep equipped items in world modifier settings if you want
That I'm definitely gonna change
is silver sword better than mistwalker in ashlands?
theres a video of a guy who gets gut punched by a golem, but jumps a split second before he gets hit, and it knocks him all the way to the ashlands.
Not sure how well that could be reproduced wil also need a specific seed probably
Personal opinion, quite similar, silver uses less stamina, depends a bit on monster you are currently fighting and their weakness etc, mistwalker damage type works very well there too. For charred specifically the silver might be a tad better and for ask etc the mist will be a bit better, I haven't done the math but the difference for some monsters is not as big as you'd think and overall because a lot of the enemies are charred!
dang lv 4 silver sword, lv 3 armor set, and shield and i still got 60 silver left over
I hate wraiths so much
dw we all do
Oh dear.
I had a bit if a fubar last night.
I was sailing around some islands and noticed a very flat looking island in the distance. Figured it might be a swamp I sailed across the water to check it out.
It turned out to be two huge swamps. With a large section of shallow water separating them.
I sailed along the edge of one of them trying to find the edge of it to set down.
So kept going, and slowly the sun set.
I figured so long as I was away from the shore, I wouldn't have a problem. But the water was so shallow wraith started spawning near the boat. And they would chase me and hit the boat. I managed to outrun it. But then, out in the middle of the water i came across a structure, it looked like a hut surrounded by headstones. As i passed by a bunch of draugrs came out and shot arrows at me.
At this point I really started to sweat. My boat didnt have unlimited health. So it would have to have been dwindling.
I got out of range of the draugr, but then another wraith spawned
silver is actually the least required metal since there isn't any construction use for it
The swamp shallows showed no sign of ending I thought I'd gave to keep running till daybreak.
But this wraith seemed faster. It kept catching up and hitting the boat.
I was really sweating.
Then the worst happened.
My boat broke and sank andbi was in the water.
The swamp shoreline wasn't far away. So I had to swim for it.
But the wraith wasn't letting me escape. And I couldn't fight it in the water.
So it was able to finally claim me.
I really have no idea how I'm getting that stuff back.
Aside from making a whole new boat/armour/weapons.
😭
The abominations look so cool, they remind me of the gonarch from hl1
Probably just new boat and some older armor would be good enough and going there during a day
Same 😂
There's 2 things that give me the creeps no matter how far along I am in Valheim, when a Leviathan starts to sink, and when Abominations stomp their way out of the mud.
what's the fastest and most economic way to put down a place to sleep?
to build it i mean
I usually just find a pre-existing structure
Then all it costs is a crafting bench, a bed, and a fire
not what i was looking for
old structures also often needs repairing, adding roof etc
like 36 wood for a 2x1 with a bed and roof
places that count as bed sheltered without adding any roof or walls: troll cave mouth, under one of those stone teepee things in meadows, inside a skull, under a ribcage, dig into a large stone. worst case a 1x2 box with a roof over it like a little coffin.
But dont you still need the craft table and a fire?
1x2 box will do i suppose
oh also under bf crypts, theres probly more POIs forgetting. but ya the box isnt hard either. no free sleeping. might be fun to be able to sleep on the ground but with consequences like in green hell
idk what the consequence would be.. 10 minute “tired” debuff little worse than being wet?
digging into a stone is an interesting option
also one to alert everyone to my position
Also ancient roots and there's even some trees in the swamp that count as shelter, but just barely
I went 1 step in the black forest i died
psht I got you beat, my first time even getting close to the black forest, a troll ran out of it to the meadows and oneshotted me
Meadows is trash
Meadows is safe
Like i hate it
so you just started playing and hate the first biome?
Hmm, but you’re the only one who’s in that meadows… so if it’s trash… gasp youve been littering the beautiful world of Valheim!
Beautiful? It's a damned Viking purgatory...
one good option is to put a workbench, 5 walls, a door, a bed and a chest in the mouth of a troll cave. 🤓
very permanent too
why not a garden while we're at it? 😄
I use troll caves for AFKing here and there, raids will never happen in them
Smelter hard to get
not really.
i do love troll caves
you dont even need walls its all sheltered workbenches can work and you can sleep fine
maybe not a garden but consider a deer rug for a bit of comfort
Korm why
the walls are just to keep out graydwarves
and to look pretty 🌼
Just have to gear up to go to the black forest
Also learn how to fight trolls and bears, the rest of the enemies are pretty easy in the bf
to be serious for a moment
4 walls around a workbench with two rooves so you can use it. 5 walls around a bed with roof likewise, one wall open so you can enter an exit. consider a chest. fire put mandatory
graydwarf brute 😱 you bastard
managed to sleep with 4 26 degree roofs put on a tree and a bed underneath but the second time it wouldn't work properly
the method i described is easier to teach and a little more practical
Damn, outta healing meads... I guess I'm not going back to fight that gjall yet...
Sometimes the ambient sound in this game really sucks. I'm in a cleared out troll cave but I can hear skeletons and wraiths, they're added as sound effects for mood. I don't think I should be hearing skeletons at all if there's none nearby
It's especially bad in the swamp
I can't tell the difference between a legit sound cue and an ambient effect
It could be possible the Skelly sound is put in with the ambiance sounds instead of it being tied to the skellies themselves
There are however MANY MANY skellies in the swamp so I could see how they would be constantly making noise
In the swamp it's more hearing things sloshing in the water, imo I shouldn't be hearing that unless there's something near me actually sloshing in the water
It's fine if the game doesn't use sound cues as a mechanic at all, but Valheim does
what bothers is if i get two biome songs overlapping each other
I think that's the idea.
Its supposed to be keeping you on edge.
Well I disagree with that game design principle. All it does is teach me that sound cues are useless in this game, and then later turns around in the mistlands and teaches me they aren't. They need to pick a lane imo.
Actually, the mountains too
Ive always kinda liked it
Makes me keep looking over my shoulder
abyssal razor is pretty good but that low durability....
I just stop looking over my shoulder based on sound cues
They've taken a safe out of the horror handbook to give you ambient sound effects for enemies that aren't there.
You hear the sound, then your checking your surroundings for danger.
Thats prolly why I like it. Lol
it does have that effect
i managed to filter it out after a while
Not for me, I just learned to ignore them in the swamp, that's why I don't like them. In crypts too, even when they're completely cleared out, you can still hear skeletons moving around.
That should be a cue for "there are still more skeletons in here"
Or not exist at all
there isn't a rule that says that it has to be that way
Or, be sufficiently different from the sound of a skeleton moving that it's easy to tell the difference, that would work too
Well yeah, this is just my opinion of course
in crypts the sounds tell whether there's more enemies or not, so it's not consistent
exactly my point
i like the idea being in a forest and hearing creepy sounds, and not knowing where they are
also noticed that even player character is making sloshing sounds in swamp which is confusing
perhaps they reevaluted this later but didn't find it important to change previous dungeons
or worthwhile
Yes, it's the inconsistency that bothers me, not the presence or absence of effects and/or cues at all
its all ambiance, if you look into the water next to you paranoid the game is doing its job, you’re supposed to experience the biome not win the biome. but also if you do want to minmax your ears there is a difference between swamp ambiance and leeches alerting, and crypt ambiance and skeletons clacketying if you know what it sounds like
hrm, maybe I just haven't trained my ears well enough to tell the difference then. But assuming this is true, I'd argue it's an accessibility issue for people with not-so-great hearing (which fortunately doesn't include me)
They sound the same to me
I'll listen more though
when its REALLY bad is mistlands, they definitely put bug sounds in lightning, and the rabbits sound like bugs sometimes, when you cant SEE ANYTHING and doing your best to hear bugs to maybe find a dungeon but its constant bug noises that i hate
that doesn’t add to any ambiance, unless the ambiance is blind and hopeless
Well at least the gjalls are unmistakeable
hehe yeah
They did good work on that one
and if you’re lucky you can hear ticks to find bones
Hi, I'm just getting into Valheim and I'm having trouble with the rotation key for building... Actually, I can't figure out where to change it, because when I use the mouse wheel to rotate, it also zooms the camera in and out from my character's perspective. Does anyone know how to change this?
If there's a build hologram, the build piece will rotate. If there is no hologram, the camera zooms.
Okay, I guess it is a little confusing, I have to admit, but if that's the only way it works, then so be it.
One of those swamp sounds always fools me during my leech hunts
So if you've got a hologram pointed and you need to zoom, you need to move the recticle far enough away so the hologram disappears, and then you can zoom
Ok thank for your help
It would be nice if alt-scroll would still zoom if a hologram was active
Or something like that
It's true that even just being able to change the zoom in/out system or the rotation button would have been nice to avoid that, but I guess I'll get used to it over time
In general this game needs a LOT more options for keybinds imo
I installed a whole mod just to change the dodge keybind
Okay, I'll see how it goes over time thank again
happens a lot with games that are ported to all consoles
there are mods out there that fix this issue afaik
That's probably the kind of thing they will have the time for after 1.0 ships
i didn't try valheim with gamepad, how is dodge bound there?
No idea lol, I changed it to Mouse4 so I can dodge with my thumb, but also because this mouse's RMB is a bit wonky (which is a perfect example of why these keybind options are needed)
you could do something similar with ahk - give any button ability to do block+jump when pressed
then you just press direction + that button
🐧 here
nothing similar to ahk on linux?
Theoretically I can change all the mouse functions I want but it's... fragile
It's not done with the mouse driver but with the human interface subsystem
And I've already got a few wacky alterations like making caps lock another modifier and stuff so it would get ugly
that wouldn't do, you don't want to do global changes
razer or similar apps not available on linux?
Just change the start shortcut to launch a shell script from a wrapper first, easy enough for me theoretically because I do that kinda shit for a living
well, linux gaming still have stuff to work on
Which exactly why I don't want to worry about that when I'm not working lol
Actually, gaming on Linux is pretty amazing these days, thanks mostly to Valve
I still check taht every game I buy is reported in the field to run well on Linux first, but I can't recall the last time that was a problem
i heard that but i consider binding and automation for accessibility reasons an important part of gaming, exactly due to reasons like this. Devs don't consider binds important enough
It's common especially with smaller studios, they don't hire enough UX people
some large studios too, be the line between a small and big is difficult to draw
i play smaller studios games mostly as well
Iron gate has a half dozen or so, that qualifies as small for sure lol
true, how many big companies are there actually?
I was honestly hoping for a better UI, I've got a few thousand hours playing Satisfactory, also published by Coffee Stain, and the UI for that game is awesome
ought to give that one a try
It's a great automation game that knows it's an automation game, not a survival game
don't know a game that couldn't use some improvement when it comes to binds or UI in one way or another
Absolutely gorgeous handcrafted map
like let's say Skyrim, which is definitely a large studio game, the UI+binds are atrocious for PC
lol never played Skyrim actually
Satisfactory uses like, fully half of the keyboard's alphanumeric keys, at least, and they still nailed the console release from day one
divinity original sin games did it pretty well as well - not that demanding though
then there's traditional roguelike games that use whole alphanumeric keyboard
good luck putting it on gamepad
heh I think the biggest complaint with that console release was setting percentage sliders, they didn't have a text entry box for them on console, and sometimes you need to set it to something like 16.13765%, which obviously isn't possible by just moving a slider
i have the impression that dodging was made more difficult for purpose, with 3 button combination. Since there's no reason not do it like most other games do with just direction+jump
nvm, i guess i'm wrong there
Oh, agreed, I understand why it's the default, but I need a new mouse because my RMB is finicky so I just... didn't dodge half the time
would need a separate keybind for dodge to use anyway
But even then, I don't agree with the ideaof making certain moves difficult by making the key combination tougher to hit. I think that should be a player choice.
It's too... meta for me
well at least for mouse/kb the option is to either give it a new trigger or use the existing ones
there isn't any convenient one, since ctrl or alt aren't that great
Or, allow me to set my own keybind
I mean just in general, allowing universal keybind reassignment just makes the game more accessible, especially for left handed people and anyone with any kind of arthritis (and yes there are people that play this game who are old enough that arthritis can be an issue)
for sure, can't argue with that
But I suppose they haven't really put much effort into accessibility yet, I've already had to turn up the gamma in crypts because the eye strain was too much for me
To be fair, that may yet be on their road map
seen Smiffe say on this discord something along the lines that they will have time for qol after release
Coming in a bit late to the convo and my caffeine hasn't quite kicked in, but us Lefties appreciate being mentioned. 🙂
I am a rare left-handed person that mouses with my left hand. I have an ancient Ideazon Fang keypad that I use with my right hand for WASD and the like. Once that thing finally stops working, I'm in trouble.
I'm not, but half my family is, so I know more about southpaw struggles than most.
In a rare synchronicity, my husband is also left-handed.
i can't even imagine how i'd play games with left hand
heh I do actually mount a bicycle "left handed", because my mother (left handed) taught me. I cannot for the life of me mount a bike from my right foot. And I'm a switch hitter.
just googled that fang and it looks pretty good
And mounting a bike with your left foot, in a right hand drive country, means you're on the traffic side of your bike, not the sidewalk side
I had an even more rare left-handed ergonomic Razer Deathadder mouse. It started to die, and Razer stopped making them. 💔
I tried a bunch of "ambidextrous" mice and found that they didn't have side buttons on both sides or other annoying failures. Found a beautiful lightweight Logitech mouse with true ambidextrous buttons. They attach via magnets and come with flat placeholders to cover the opposite side. I love it so much that I may buy a second one in case this one dies.
Calling a mouse ambidextrous if it only has side buttons on one side is patently false advertising
There are communities dedicated to talking about the Fang and the related Merc keyboard. There is a 3d printed mechanical version out there, but the price point is too rich for my blood at the moment.
i should get me something similar, seen stuff like that but didn't pay it much mind so far
I'm getting my sister a "left handed hammer" as a gag gift for xmas this year lol
But at the same time, a left handed paring knife, because her husband doesn't believe her that paring kinves are usually made for right handed people
I'll show him!
i have a saucepan that is apparently made for lefties
This is the mouse I use. I bet it's discontinued, too.
