I have been playing up to just before fadder to have a world at the ready to go to DN once it drops. I have no worries that the DEVs will make it happen without breaking my beautiful medieval village they have proven time and again they can do it. I left 2/3 of the map untouched basically the whole east and north and tried to play on the south east of the map as much as possible so I have plenty of untouched unseen meadows and forest and other biomes for new content 😄 I think this will work out. Only worlds that have to much already "seen" even from afar will have trouble 😄

I just got rudely reminded how hard two-star Fulings can hit you. Full lvl 3 wolf armor, food situation... not optimal, but not too bad either. It was a two hit wonder. First hit staggered me and brought me down to, like, 30%, second hit was the "killer".

And then I wondered, if that's pretty much how a regular Fuling hits in very hard mode, how can anybody even play this? I mean, armor and shields become virtually useless and all you do is dodge, dodge, dodge, because even one hit will spell doom for you.

Respect for anybody who can pull it off and can even enjoy this. I couldn't, but then I'm too old for that difficulty. I stick to default. 😉

Build and reflexes. Get an optimal food situation going and you might be able to parry, otherwise dodge

But I'm a growing fan of staggering enemies with damage rather than parries lately

That's pretty much what I do. I usually attack first, forget questions completely and bother about the consequences later. Which means I'm bound to get hit once or twice. Usually I can take that, thanks to armor. But in some cases (like our starred friends here) this obviously doesn't work.

Usually though, I can stagger them right away and then finish them off. Which works surprisingly well on default difficulty.

So much, that I'm increasingly relying on light armor.

Root harnesk is the GOAT, especially for Plains.

Golems are tricky. You're still on swamp level, so be very cautious.

I find them pretty hard to parry.

Yeah I started dealing with golems by digging a pit and trapping them. Once I upgraded to full wolf armor and iron mace/shield, I began just killing them.

If Mistwalker, you can slow enemies and try circling around them while hitting them. If Himminafl, you can use secondary attack to knock them back and stagger easier.

Frostner is actually safe option too, due to knockback and slow.

I think I loged on to second server like 3 times to heal up and come back, but it's just hopeless. After one hit I'm in next attack kill me zone. And manuvering between the two I'm hit or run out of stamina before I can attack.

Ashlands isn't that bad all of the mobs are fairly predictable outside of maybe one of them but that's mostly due to how it can delay its attacks

And one thing that can turn the tides on your favor is that most non-charred enemies deal friendly fire damage to each other, so you can use their attacks to clear out other enemies around.

Although I don’t have a gripe with Ashlands combat personally (there is another big thing I dislike about Ashlands though), it feels to me like a small fumble on the developers part?

From being in this community I’ve learned a lot of people playing Valheim don’t have the reflexes, skill, or urge for high-stakes as some of us do, and a large part of those people look like they’ve been severely frustrated or quit the game over Ashlands

I have very slowly started to actually progress toward taking this fortress, I just keep getting swarmed by multiple morgen, askvin, warriors, archers, tweakers, a valkyrie, and there's a 2 star warrior hanging around somewhere. The other day I got stuck in the slow motion stagger when I was completely stunlocked for a full 5 seconds.

I'm getting there. I just despise every single second of having to be in the biome at all 😂

I found forested areas that seem to be more level than ones out in the open. When leveling terrain made areas more laggy in older builds, i learned to make my base on stilts. It's like I have to find a boar runestone to find somewhere that is level.

Well, that's another way of giving yourself too much to do. 😉 Lvl 4 iron weapons are not really necessary, since they will soon be superseded by silver. Which is even WAY more work.

There is a trick. Fish from karve, after you cast the bait, use rudder, you can sit there, bringing you closer to water. Then you just reel in until the bait is close, and paddle through the school of fish. You'll have only 2-3m of line to reel in, so even with no skill it's possible to catch big fish

Pausing reeling doesn't drain stamina but won't regen it either and the length stays the same, they don't pull it any longer.

Afaik trees, boulders, bushes, smaller branches etc. don't stay on air, this was seen in pre-explored areas near Ashlands border before the update when terrain lowered and it left those on air, but they soon started descending to ground.

I'm honestly envious of any new players to both Valheim and Ark. My favorite games. And they're only new and novel once, ya know? This is why I love squirreling around with noobs.
