no you are
oh, am curious though what you want to say though. I guess just wasn't expecting to get pushed back or doubted for voicing frustration about my experience and wanting to suggest ideas to fix that. What do you mean by plenty of peopel read your message? as there are several things I could take from that.
You can get a bone sledge this way right
Stagbreaker requires corewood, not finewood.
But you can roll beech into pine right
You can just use stone axe on pine.
Which tree has corewood again lol..
pine
Pines are in black forest, they don't require bronze axe like birch and oak trees.
Oh til lol
You the new guy or is there someone else struggling?
Some video said to get the stagbreaker before eikythr you can roll logs or break structures
Im at the swamp im not struggling
your first message here, the one about the future of the game after 1.0? If you're worried about the game, share feedback to the devs directly. Iron Gate already explained what’s happening after 1.0. It’s not the end of the game, it’s just the end the Early Access release. They’ve said they’ll keep supporting Valheim with smaller updates, quality of life changes, balance tweaks, and a stable base for mods. They’ve even mentioned wanting to build on the game past launch, just at a potentially slower pace. So the idea that it’s getting dropped after 1.0 isn’t really accurate.
Might be misinformed about the tool required for pine trees, but one meadows type structures have corewood.
Oh yea I learned that, that wasn't the conversation I was referring to.
They should do drg and v rising style cosmetic dlcs to fund post 1.0 development
have you finished v rising?
No I beat the crazy chemistry girl
i beat maybe the first boss or 2, idk if its worth picking back up after a year
Im playing it coop with an irl friend
i got overwhelmed with how many crafting objects it told me to build at the start all at once
np thanks though.
They've stated they don't plan any DLCs for cosmetics for Valheim IIRC.
I got gifted valheim in 2022, died to greylings, a bunch wandered into the forest died to a troll all before ever figuring out what to do and Uninstalled
Its always worth a shot again
To submit a very ambitious dlc idea, second map that is essentially caves under the current map. More biomes and progress but all within this map wide cave network. Well not really a second map but like a addition to the current map.
Unfortunate
😭
i also wanna beat ark after i finish valheim
i got to iron age and stopped, i still dont get how we got all techy and what those red green blue flying things are
I couldn't get into ark after multiple tries
i beat it for myself and some random kid online for 3 dollars during christmas 2 years ago
I miss palworld
This is a bit crazy of a idea lol just I think would be fun and interesting to get a whole new hidden world to explore. Could also potentially justify giving it as much detail as the main world so it could cost a similar price to the main game.
I like dream land apparently lol
i think it would be easy enough to do close to half of that as just an update
Oh I guess but feel it could be a lot bigger of a thing as a dlc that could essentially be like valheim x2
would kind of veer off from the viking aspect
I am not too knowledgeable on vikings so it okay if I ask what defines as a viking aspect? am curious if I can think of ways to preserve it
don’t resort to AI
I morally and ethically refuse to touch chat gpt.

I wouldn't call offloading thinking to a bot useful.
To say nothing of the environmental impact
i think it would, considering the bot is smarter and faster than us
they could expand on the ocean biome
A complete waste of energy in my opinion, people already were fighting climate change and such and then companies find a way to make it worse but this time for no benefit but actual harm.
So you’re admitting you’re slow, murka. Some of us prefer thinking for ourselves. Imagining for ourselves
Essentially harming for the sake of harming, would make me potentially want to outlaw a lot of that stuff.
Also there is more in life than doing everything faster. Rather humans have control of their lives and purpose not be seen as something to get rid of and replace
I'm sure developers have ideas for ocean.
😭
yea for sure
It’s not “smarter”, it has no original thoughts. It pulls data from the internet faster, yes. That’s it
If fair I also feel like chatgpt is the laziest form of research as it gives up pretty much all effort and decision making. On top of also taking away from the actual sources of that information.
🤔
ice age predicted in 10,000 years btw
Hi Smiffe 👋🏼
yo 👋
efficiency is lazy
ai is efficient
ai has made me thousands
How’s deep north looking? Pretty cool, right? 😉
if not tens of thousands
Reminded me of that research about brain activity being affected by AI.
Students who uses AI to do assignment have lower brain activity and it doesn't recover compared to students who doesn't use AI.
ive only had ai be useful as a glorified search engine when i cant properly phrase a question in google that helps me go in the right direction for real research
Replying to this.
My generation didn't have AI or internet. The brain activity was still low
Sorry I just get super frustrated as it is a concept that feels like it is taken straight from a dystopian film.
"I think that the axe is stupid because its faster, instead im going to use my fists to punch it because i think my fists are better!"
No research to back it up. 🤷♂️
I don't think you are debating anyone anymore at this point.
time for #valheim-chat to be valheim releated
is swamp bad
i heard most people quit the game upon reaching the swamp
It smells bad
there should be a leech raid exclusive to the ocean
If okay to go back to what I was trying to ask, what is a good way to define/summarize the viking aspect? so if I wanted to suggest a dlc idea I could preserve it?
It focuses on Norse mythology, seafaring, crafting, and a warrior culture built around honor, community, and conquering the unknown.
Wouldn’t leeches die in salt water? Or am I thinking of slugs?
that's snails
Slugs also
Viking, member of the Scandinavian seafaring warriors who raided and colonized wide areas of Europe from the 9th to the 11th century and whose disruptive influence profoundly affected European history.
Prolly cuz they skip poison res meads.
Swamps is the first biome that tells players to actively use potions and meads.
I want responses from a human brain and experience please.
Boats are easy to preserve in caves, under ground water/rivers are fine.
The Vikings were raiders, pirates, traders, explorers, and colonizers during the 9th to 11th century. They often traveled by sea from Scandinavia and took control of areas of Europe and beyond.
Swamp is when people realize or not that proper preparation and stamina management are key for survival.
hey these are human responses btw
does the crow tell you to use potions
Dude, just drop it abt AI and human brain thing. Smiffe alr said to drop it.
i turned off the tutorial crow
I am not trying to start it I just want to be sure when I ask my question it isn't generated responses as I want to ask about the more abstract feeling aspect.
Swamp is also the first biome where you have to deal with an effect that makes the rested bonus a lot more important.
And the enemies are harder as in the previous two biomes; while on top of all of that you will have to return there a lot for Iron.
Not sure. I turned off mine too cuz it's annoying 😂
thanks for the suggestion, im no longer just dashing through crypts facetanking everything lol
We get tons of iron ingots from mist btw.
so once the elder is beaten, should my course of action be to build a base in the swamp?
Yeah, but the problem is.......
Mistlands is the 6th biome.
And you will need lots of iron before that.
how many of you are on your first playthroughs? and how many days in are you?
Fair.. I just mentioned it in case ppl don't know abt it.
Nah, an outpost will do.
It would be a good idea to build that outpost at the border of the swamp, so you can bring in a boat. And export the iron by boat as well.
Once you've found the special trader in the Swamp, it might be useful to build a portal outpost close to her place.
Problem with swamps is: at some point the iron is gone and it won't respawn.
Having a base in the swamp isn't really needed at that point anymore.
It's been years since my first playthrough.
im on my first pt
I'd advise mapping the area first. Build small resting spots along the way.
Building base is best done after u know which biome is where so u can easily plan your routes.
I can definitely give you human-like reasoning, practical experience, and grounded explanations, but I have to be clear that I’m still an AI—not a human brain.
i already mapped it
is the trader in only one swamp on the whole map? because ive been through 3 black forests now and still havent found the trader for it
Cool. Smelting/forge outpost at meadows near the swamps would be nice so u don't need to haul the ores using clunky carts.
The traders have several spawn-spots and appear in the first of those you stumble upon. There's 3 different traders btw.
i see
Their symbol can pop up at your map even before you spot them. So make sure you open your map once in a while to see if there's anything popping up in the FoW.
the bog witch?
seems so
Best trader in the game (||Haldor|| is a really really close 2nd though)
Megingjord is so nice
thunder stone too so you can stop throwing a bunch on the floor hoping it is able to despawn.
Am wondering do you like my idea for a dlc where the cost is around the same maybe like 10% less than the game itself, but it adds a full underground cave network below the map with it's own biomes and such too? Like a alternate progress route if you want. Having more than 1 main path to go forward can be very fun.
A valheim x2 dlc of caves and underground rivers and waters. I am unsure on the specifics how how to execute that, like as a alternate option to how to progress, a way to go even further, or both.
Sounds fun, but no way in hell devs would ever do that
Defeats a lot of the intent of the game. And depending on how its done could cause massive performance issues or engine limitations
Right now they can't even make dungeons/frost caves bigger than they are, as they're unable to make things bigger than a chunk
Well it is more like a specific type of dungeon or something that is only loaded if in it.
I guess, but think centering a dlc on it might make the investment to get around that worth it allowing potential ways to improve other aspects of the game too.
Essentially a game has a challenging problem that if fixed could improve a lot? focus a dlc around that aspect to make fixing it a worthwhile investment lol.
I wish there were more to vendors
Just feels like a weird approach. Viking game turns Deep Rock Galactic
Would make more sense to make a DLC where you travel to a new land with new biomes. Not that I think they'll do that either. They've been pretty explicit about Deep North being the conclusion to the game, and I think not wanting huge additions after
I just feel like it would be nice if they looked into it, though thinking about one thing I wanted to be able todo since I first heard of the game, was build and explore along the massive tree overhanging the map. Would be nice if that could be turned into part of the map.
I don't know much lore, so don't know much about why that tree is there but I like it, just sad I can't go on a long voyage and hike up there to get new resources and build.
It talks about it in the opening crawl. Valheim was cut adrift from the World Tree, monsters growing out of control, etc. etc.
Thanks just it would be very fun if end game there was a way to actually go up there accessing several new biomes all on this big tree you explore.
js beat my little elder
Does the Deep North have to be the end, What about the Wild West and the Far East!
gave me elden ring vibes
Valheim is truly the Elden Ring of Valheim-type games
swamp key for
question of the century
ggs
swamp key for swamp
youtube time, might make a whole new huge base on bf edge thats next to swamp
???
???????????????
swamp key for crypts?
its a non-sequitur joke, dont think too hard about it
i sent 2 screenshots in #screenshots, is it worth dismantling this and moving closer to the swamp in the bf for a final base, or staying here for the rest of the game
Its pretty much up to you.
I usually make new bases as I need to adventure further and further
do you destroy the old ones and use the resources for the new bases, or do you just make a new base for each biome
Anyone on xbox?
I make a new one as I go. Who knows if I might need my older base for later
I should get in the habit of making small huts with a bed and fire in every area i plan to mine in
is that for rest buff
is rest buff really that good? what does it really do
you can see all your buffs/debuffs if you click on the bird tab on the right when you bring up your inventory
thx
Yep, the Rested buff is absolutely worth it. It boosts your regen by a lot around +50% health regen, 50% xp gain and +100% stamina/eitr regen. Basically, you recover way faster. Golden rule: never head out without Rested buff
Yea once you're past like, meadows, you wanna try to be rested 24/7
And preferably you don't want to be cold or wet either, really hurts your stamina regen
luring bears and lox to fight each other is so much fun
Want to say, but I kind of dislike that the holiday exclusive items add to the rested buff with no way to get them outside of those times without cheating or something. Might be nice to me if they simply became far easier to get around those times where late game you could still get them at all times. Like christmas trees could be gotten year round in the deep north for example while much easier to get around the holidays.
I don't know just dislike having gameplay benefits that only can be accessed at certain times of the year.
Build it during this season, and I believe it stays there afterwards
So you do have it “year round”
Do bosses respect the shield bubble that traders have?
i dont think they can enter them no
hello
hi
Also random question but if I don't want to craft a mace I will likely only use once for bonemass, what is another good way to defeat him?
Its worth it to only craft it once ngl
2nd best might be frost arrows
still takes longer than the mace
I don't like using up obsidian that isn't renewable for that, any 3rd best option lol?
Just use the mace lol
I don't currently have any good farming areas for more iron so want to preserve what I got till I need bulk iron scrap.
You don’t “have to” use the mace.
Any weapon will deal damage, just less than the mace
in my experience though it often would regenerate faster than I can hurt it really with other tools. I guess I could invest into lots of meads or something to allow me to stay up close dealing damage at a faster weight
Craft a bunch of arrows, wooden arrows even. Make a repair station you can run to in order to repair your bow. Then just fire away
No
I used a knife lol
Abyssal Razer
Sure, my brother was using a sword. But neither of us were using a mace
For bonemass, I just whacked it with my iron axe. I had iron armor on
I might have been using a battleaxe. I dont remember
I haven't faught bonemass for awhile at least a few months, it easier than I remember? I know trinkets will help me a lot for a up close fight.
It takes soo much longer without the mace. but good luck
Well that is fine, still would be much quicker than having to find a whole new iron gathering spot for 1 tool.
Poison mead, iron armour. Might need a repair spot for your sword/axe/whatever. but go nuts
Not really. you will need an abundance of iron in the future. so, finding a better swamp would benefit you now and in the future
I know, but I don't want todo that for a tool I only plan on using once or twice. Rather just take a longer time to fight then later on I can find more iron for uses I have more of a interest in
I mean also I want to use a lot of iron to work on a more permanent base so am avoiding unnecessary spending of it outside that.
He takes extra damage from Blunt so a mace of any kind will shorten the fight considerably.
I know that
Sorry have a bit of frustration about several things built up if it comes across in my messages.
It takes 33% more time, assuming equal skill level. In my case, I had a very high axe skill by this point, and it was not really sensible for me to switch to a mace just for this fight.
wait no...
I feel regeneration complicates the math a little too.
well whatever, my point is that the mace isnt the full answer to it all
And it doesnt regenerate that fast
Not really
You’re thinking it regenerates much faster than it does
I wonder what will happen when I step into my hot tub with my lightning mace?
Do lightning tools react with water at all? I recall not but would be a nice addition. Little details really make games.
I haven't gone into water with my mace yet, so I am not sure. I am guessing nothing happens.
sea water or the wet condition?
When standing in water mainly
I actually wonder if it does anything
I doubt it but would like to see that changed. Silksong has certain stuff react with water
Water tends to "dissipate" electricity. You have to be damn close for it to arc.
I should say, bodies of water, not just water.
It would be a bit like throwing a toaster into bathwater, but I am guessing nothing happens in game.
When you do that, the thing is that the toaster electricity has nowhere to go but on the hapless human in the bathtub
When its a lake, its different
Yeah, I am talking about taking it into our respective hot tubs.
The mace is pretty good in the mountains (especially for fighting stone golems )even better than frostner there since most enemies resist the cold there
Those dang things 😭
We have been very lucky with this Ashlands. No less than 4 spires of Flametal on land, and since none of them sank, we got all of it. Plus 3 Citadels on this island so far as well. Each with a different gem stone too. Blue, red and green. So Iolite, Blood and Jade.
There are 5 more Flametal spires we could go for too.
Sword is good if you don't have mace. Just don't use pierce damage
I just had a leviathan not sink until I mined all the barnacle
Looks mournfully at my atgir
It's fine, it still grants +1 comfort.
because its actually made for dvergrs
dvergrs cant put the ornaments if the tree is too high
Personally i like the blue jem weapons. I have an Iolite Slayer
im currently tickling bonemass to death any advice besides silver or blunt dmg?
Thats it lol, fire might work
if i must ill go train clubs but im trying to not cheese any fights
You're using poison resistance meads yeah?
Lmfao ofc
yep im wasted on meads (poison, and both regens lol)
im finding openings but i reaaallly wish i could cancel swings and roll lol
He resists fire.
thats what im doing but im getting greedy with the hits while puking
isnt it spirit blunt ice?
well dont be greedy, hit, run, repeat
Weak to blunt and frost. Normal damage from spirit.
so frostner is the move
ok i died ill just go make a mace i got 100 spare iron
do u have silver?
nah im mining silver until i kill him
I once tried quality 3 bear claws against Bonemass, claws broke before Bonemass died.
I didn't realize bonemass was a sponge
dont use arrows or anything like that, just mace and shield and poison res potions, healing is good too
thats info i learned preparing but thank you regardless haha
Frost arrows are okay tho.
Should I just not parry bosses abd stars in hard difficulty lol
I had full iron armor and a buckler all fully upgraded with serpent stew and 2 feasts and bonemass was staggering me
Armor has nothing to do with blocking.
And yes, on higher difficulties the game becomes about dodging instead.
Til, ty
There is a sheet pinned in this channel that a nice man wrote. It allows you to select your difficulty, skill level, and weapon/shield - it then shows you how much HP you need to block every attack in the game.
He is weak to spirit and frost
And blunt 😂

Imagine if he was weak to player-sourced poison 😏
Taste of his own medicine and all that 😁
-# Not weak against spirit, takes normal damage from it.
🫡 tysm
The bear gear is better than all of the bronze gear I can parry draugr with the gauntlets and 2 shot them
Game is so peak thank the valheimian gods for an early game unarmed weapon that rocks
They're pretty neat, I agree. 🐾
Yule tree is here, now I have a deadline for my plains castle (or at least the bedroom)
What’s up everybody whats everyone working on
Generally I’d just dodge bosses. You can’t stagger them anyways
On hard difficulty I’d recommend using 2 hp foods, but that’s a personal preference. You should be able to parry most one star grunts though, at least with two hp foods (parrying depends on your shield and how much max hp you have)
Swamp shield is particularly good at parrying if you made the iron “buckler”. Bucklers are always better for parrying, but some biomes just have regular shields
I wouldn’t bother trying to parry 2-stars
I just started my no map, no portals, fire hazard world. May Odin guide me 😅
Good luck, young one
and my mouse died 😡 I guess I'll finish this later.
I recently learned that Yag tends to set himself on fire when you fight him with fire hazards on. Kinda funny
Not a lot of dmg tho, and more a hazard to the player
It’s an intimidation tactic 😂
🔥
🔥
There is one thing I'm proud now.
I've successfully introduced one of my group into atgeir gang.

G'day, havent messaged here in almost a year.
Got any news on the deep north yet? Is starting a new world rn alr or should wait?
Missing around 100h to get to 1k on Valheim and want to get it in the same world without having to restart, thats why i ask XD
No info about DN yet, only that its not gonna be this year. And you can always start a new world, if you wont explore the area DN will be in it will generate normally 🙂
Alrighty sounds good, thx for the info my friend have a great day!
You should feel ashamed of yourself good sir
The ability to feel shame is removed when one acquires a green name.
for real talk though, what would you pair with an atgeir these days? first time in ashlands i was pretty much pure atgier and god it was horrible, it got me off atgiers pretty hard and i used to love them before ashlands existed. and obviously you need to transition off them because no ashlands atgier. or do you kind of secondary atgeir for crowds and pierce and mainly use a sword or club?
My personal preference is mistwalker/silver sword and carapace buckler, keeping the atgeir as secondary for encountering a Morgen or Asksvin.
I thought the lightning atgeir was good well into the ashlands
I've had no problems using Himminafl more in Ashlands. Secondary still staggers easily as the lightning damage adds stagger too. And it helps also against Morgen who are weak against lightning.
right, the mimmisnarf
lol
the secondary on the atgeir works well also for breaking up groups with the knockback.
You almost always create an opening that you can sprint out of (if necessary) while they're all staggered.
Nowadays I go HSF food setup in Ashlands so stamina usage isn't an issue for me.
Since this current playthrough, I've jumped on the HSF bandwagon as well.
Still in plains though. Not sure what I'll do once I enter ML yet.
Last playthrough I loved my bubble, so I gotta figure that out.
oh damn, i got christmas recipes unlocked today. Hey chat, am I gonna "forget" them after Christmas, or how does it work?
The recipes go away after the event but what you've built will remain until you destruct them.
Yule tree grants +1 comfort, so that one is nice to have built before the end of the eve.
I'm a HHF user myself
i remember it being complete poo poo for charred, no point in doing hardly any damage and staggering them because they recover so quickly, and resisting pierce, it felt entirely hopeless. well it WAS i had like 30 deaths. until i switched to pure magic and that was LESS hopeless til i got vine staff and i was like ok so my playstyle is kite everything forever and then i thought that was dumb and quit the world XD next world was sword and shield and zero deaths ez town.
Sounds similar to me. I used to use bows and magic pretty heavily then realized how boring and OP they were, started using almost entirely melee instead and feeling like skill actually matters.
Feels so much more engaging
ugh god, yeah i just looked at an old clip from when i first landed like 2 years ago... it's so sad. i'm fighting TWO twitchers. i have 78 stamina, i parry both of them and attack twice, bringing my stamina to ZERO, and only the first attack hits because they recover and run off so fast
Imagine losing stamina when parrying
so i successfully did like 1/3 of a twitcher's health with 78 stamina
maybe it's viable (well isn't everything) with the zero parry stamina cost but.
Haven't played ashlands since combat update but I imagine with how much block armor / parry multiplier carapace buckler has, zero stamina cost, +10 adrenaline on parry, and a horde of mobs, it's pretty easy to proc trinkets?
Zero stamina cost has made me revisit running triple hp setups
Or with the introduction of feasts, HHF has been feeling damn nice
oh i almost always run HHH food, no reason you need that much stamina
But that's also bc I'm on vhard trying not to get oneshot
I'm thinking silver sword is nice in Ashlands due to its competitive damage and low stamina cost
EXCEPT mistlands for those dang hills
im a hard enjoyer, ya i appreciate having health and the abilty to parry things
i guess in that way the game is more fun in a way, i can freely use all health foods and play on harder difficulty, if i'm to ever say anything ever positive about the parry change its that
May I join someone?
The ratatosk mead (and I suppose the lightfoot mead, haven't tried that one yet) seem nice for if you don't want to be tied to light armor and high stamina
Check out #1024264966712340510
rata is so good to drink before goblin camps
I feel like rata is good to drink at any time honestly
It's so cheap to make too
I've been experimenting with stunlocking enemies (particularly 1 star seekers) when I can't parry them, and having some stamina to keep the stunlock going until they're dead is very nice
Actually been really enjoying fist weapons for that purpose
Feel like I should enjoy maces since they're similar, but god I do not enjoy maces
wel this is why i love battleaxe, currently in swamps again with my new baby and it's so great to just engage on normal and 1 star drauger and just say when they die
and to boop 2 stars away and say wait your turn
i COULD parry a 1 star drauger and almost fill my stagger, but why do that when i can just kill it
I hate how long block skill takes to build up
I don't wanna do a boring skill trainer for it
it is a bit slow, even the one run where i did tower shields and made the effort ot just block just because, it was like idk 40 in endgame or so?
Set up a spot where you can stand still while 3 Elders shoot their ranged attacks at you.
i feel dirty just grinding a skill to grind it. except blood magic.
Even grinding it to grind it blood magic is tedious
I kinda do want to do some fun shenanigans with skellies especially since they have double damage on high difficulty, but grinding the skill is gonna take forever
And I don't even use shield bubble so its really just for the skellies
wait... whats an elder in that context? I am sleep deprived
The boss?
oh... right
oh they do??? are skele minions buffed same as other mobs?
yeah. Skelly minions, tamed animals, summoned blobs, etc.
If your going to train block, its best to do parry for it. IIRC you get 1.5 xp per parry, versus 1 for a block.
so it feels a little gross, not using iron brooch, but for science instead of bear armor and iron brooch, i'm using full iron with nimble anklet. i might hate it but we'll see.
The trinkets are largely useless. So I am working on figuring out which I will like to have trigger the most during the big ugly fights. Like I get them to trigger fairly often in the Ashlands.
Get them to trigger often because of this? #valheim-chat message
Or just because its constant fighting
getting 50 hp every few seconds is pretty useful imo but i nkwo you have playstyle choices that make stamina gain very difficult
With frequent procs I am considering if crystal heart would be nice
The constant fighting. When your fighting a Morgen, a couple of Askvin, 4 to 6 charred warriors, 2 to 3 Marksman, and 6+ twitchers at the same time, its not hard to activate them.
i tried crystal heart in plains, it was tough to like it, by the time it triggered id already killed 90% of the camp, and then it was like great i have 10 health with 25% resist against this pack of lox that joined the fight
like id rather have the 100 hp from 2 iron brooch triggers
Exactly, which is why I'm saying just for ashlands
In other biomes it feels like high adrenaline trinkets will almost never trigger at a useful time (even low adrenaline ones are eh)
well then how are they worthless? the ashlands one gives what is it 100 hp and stamina??
oh for ashlands sure, could be useful but idk i feel like im fine with just getting some hp and recovering litlte bits of damage, OR i'd want the +50% block armor inc ase there's a 2 star something
Its the only biome in which I am finding them to be useful, since I actually trigger them in the Ashlands. Plus I only just made the one your talking about last night. So I have yet to get a chance to try to trigger that one, at a cost of 100.
I feel like a flat hp/stamina regen is better than damage reduction on normal, but damage reduction might win out on hard/vhard
I tried out fins of destiny in the swamp, seemed somewhat useful
It sounds like people do a lot more swimming in swamps than I do. Does everyone go in straight lines in the swamps? I go around and stick to land as much as possible.
I wanna make good use of either bear armor set on harder difficulty but even with crystal heart or bonemass to overide the weakness, I have a hard time making a case for them
Outside of like, doing a sneakshot with a crossbow or something
I find the ashland trinkets quite useless
They could be useful against the final boss, though
I try to avoid any puddles in swamp as much as I can, recently also taking up the strategy of paving watery areas in swamp with a hoe
Fins of destiny is if shit hits the fan and you need to jump in the ocean and swim away from the danger
ya i was wondering about crystal and just switchign to whichever relevant helm after you proc it, sounds tedious and stupid but.
I was able to outswim everything but wraiths in the swamp. Leeches couldn't keep up
I think fins might be good in mistlands too, will have to test
I've never had to do that. I typically use the fallen trees to buy me time, or just jump up onto a crypt.
I usually just kill everything in the swamp
Thats what I do once I'm geared with iron.
cool, thank you! Are there other events?
Eh, when im full kitted in bronze, its also quite feasible
i just figured out im better off waiting for the sea serpent to get close and then just chucking my spear a few times at it instead of using a bow with 2 bow skill
Depends on what attacks you. Typically, yes, but when everything comes alive and many of them are starred...
kill with finebow
i made a finewood and always do, and its the only reason i level my bow skill
but just now iwas like yaknowwhat, and i threw it as it bit the boat, and could pick it up and throw it twice more before it swamp off
it did like 10 arrows worth of damage
Nope. Especially when one or two of them are Abominations.
kill with axe after a parry
OH ur talkin to him not me lol nvm
Im just responding to whatever happens
He usually just spouts nonsense. Even he will tell you that.
I used to be terrified of the swamp but after a while I just kinda start clicking and Im just no longer bothered by anythign in it
cant say i didnt notice
Well for that I was serious, though
sure, and yes make a finewood bow is a good thing to do, but im saying i just realized that's worthless with a good spear and good spear skill
I will admit that when you just entered the swamp and you see a two star draugr, its kind of a moment
Thats why I said "usually", and was even bothering to respond.
2 star ranged maybe, otherwise they're dumb dumbs who stop to attack like other mobs
After you show up in the ashland and accidentally land and built a base right next to a two star spawner, lemme tell you that lots of the earlier stuff just feels like silly little things in comparison.
Which I am happy about, when I don't want to fight them. 😄
Things tend to spawn a heck of a lot even after you destroy the spawners. It still gets a bit ridiculous.
two star spawner*
I have yet to notice a spawner spawn nothing but 2 stars.
Theres a few that stands right next to these structures related to the lord reto miniquest
They are extra rude
I have yet to figure out which structures those are. The ones with all the vines, that the bird shows up to warn you about something or other?
Nah, the first one you see is marked by a question mark on your map. It looks like a regular ruined dverger... huh
belvedere
Oh, just saw my first marker. We have yet to go there.
Too busy with all the Flametal spires and 3 citadels so far.
That mace finally convinced my wife to give up Frostner. 😄 😄
Which one? 👀 One of the enchated versions or unenchanted
Both. She was liking it before I used an Iolite.
So now she has an unenchanted, but we have an iolite to use on it as well.
Apparently these gems can only be used in specific ways, on specific weapons.
wellp i just attacked a spawner area in swamp, i cant say being slightly faster halfway through was better than healing for 50 hp.i think im already calling it that i miss my iron brooch.
Klossen.

I wish sledgehammers had a regular attack, and the ground smash was a secondary attack
would be cool, how to make it unique though. has mtp, but +stagger maybe
IDK, I am rather fond of smashing the ground, and creating some breathing space.
The way ti make it unique is that it has a ground smash attack.
No need to think about it too much.
its very useful, havent used it in a long long time, but il ike it too
the regular attack would have to be pretty mediocre or bad to balance it
I usually use it most in dungeons, but there are so many spawns in Ashlands, I use it pretty regular now.
Combine that with my skill being in the 90's, Demolisher be demolishing.
as soon as i get myself to stop using axes i rly wanna do club run with vilebone armor
but every time its like frodo and the ring the thing just whispers to me and i cant help it
Well, you get attacked so often while cutting down trees, its kind of hard to stop using axes entirely.
and spend resources to make axes, might as well just max it and make it your weapon
Axes are far from being my "primary" weapon, and my combat skill is still in the 50's.
i just love how you get to control the fight staggering things and decimating groups so easily
Honestly, it feels that way with most every weapon I use. Swords, club types, bow, axe types.
People seem to feel similar about the ones I don't use much, if at all.
Like knives, spears, atgeir.
It also seems like most people agree the magic stuff is just OP.
i thought magic was butt when i used it
Maybe I use it wrong but magic has never felt op to me
and the secodn i switched to melee things died faster and i lived easier
Sure it’s safe but I always think I could do it faster with melee and that’s what I find more important
I don't know, I simply don't like using them. I stick to melee.
yeah WAY faster
like i can sit here for 10 secodns with my frost staff going pewpewpwepwepewpwepewpewpwepwepwepewpweppwewppewpwepwepwepwepewpwepwepeppwepwepwe rawrrrrrr...
OR i can go running jump LUNGE with a 2 hand sword and its dead
I do fine with melee. Like this run, I am about 15 hours into Ashlands. Multiple Spires harvested, 3 citadels taken, and I still have not died. Come very close a few times, but I still managed to stay alive.
Those fallen Valkyries are the most dangerous to me.
They’re too fast
Aside from the lava itself.
I'm fine if they are all that I am fighting, but they are a magnet for everything else. Not fun to fight them and a dozen of everything else. Well, it is fun, but only because I have managed to stay alive. Even if barely.
the thing about ashlands, is its worst when its 3 different things with different attack patterns and timings. a starred asksvin, a valkyrie, and a morgen, its like... you can't dodge everything, and they're so fast you have to look over your shoulder to see when the asksvin is gonna lunge and u have to dodge, and the valk is so fast, you CAN'T run if you're in heavy and there's lava and stuff
Well, I don't doge. Or parry. Fortunately my big bad portable wall is all I need. Plus Fire Wine.
Plus Major healing. I have actually needed those a few times in the Ashlands.
Now I am glad that my wife made like 90 of those.
We do need to make a lot more Fire Wine. You pretty much have to have those to survive the Valkyries.
Is it a known bug that dodge-rolling into a wolf can send you flying?
First I've seen it mentioned.
Axes for staggering? Sounds odd to me
I guess if theyre proccing lightning effect hitting the same target it might be pretty nice
Hello i am new here is it already known when the next big update releases?
Not yet no
Battleaxes are very good at staggering
Ok sadge
Tru
I’ve been really liking the stagger on fist weapons tho
Devs have explicitly said not before 2026
Pretty viable guess to say before 2027 tho
I've just received top secret information that the update is releasing in 202X, you are welcome
What a great year to play through the deep north in
My guess would be February 2026, for 5 year anniversary
From how much deep north content we’ve seen I think it’s still a very long way off. We had seen a lot more of ashlands by the time it released.
True, but theres still hope for me that it comes out in early 2026
🤔
Early 2026 sounds pretty unlikely
i mean battleaxes specifically with their bonus stagger damage on regular attacks, being able to hit a starred mob and stagger it instead of worrying if i have enough block/hp to parry
Hey guys, are dvergr lanterns more forgiving on performance than regular torches, as lightsources go?
idk about performance cuz my pc is good, but their load range is TINY so i hate them. you have to get so close before they render
Spammed a wee bit too many sconces around my house, starting to notice it. Just wondering if I should make some lanterns or just reduce the amount a bit
inside your base when you don’t see them, except for close-up would be nice, but don’t be silly like me and use them as guide lights for your dock
Not a factor indoors luckily
I made these cool things where it looks like the raven is holding it in his mouth and everything, took so long to build little islands and platforms to get stonecutters with cool stone posts and make them out to sea and everything… then im like….
Argh!
That is one reason I will look into increasing render distance a bit once 1.0 is out (only thing I've thought about finding mods for)
I find it so annoying that a bloody birch tree on the beach renders way earlier than my massive lighthouse with bonfire that is a hundred meters out in the ocean
Do you mostly use it against weaker enemies like draugr and fulings? Because I have hard time imagining battle axes doing good stagger on like a seeker soldier or fuling berserker or something that has more hp
I guess maybe with multiple secondary attacks
of course their strength is multiple targets because they cleave so gloriously, but yes you can actually stun lock berserkers very easily, or multiple berserkers very easily. two boops staggers them or you can parry them with blackmetal and start wailing. for seeker soldiers, I’d rather use my spear to jump around and stab their butt, they do this stupid thing when you stagger them, their head automatically zips around and faces you so it’s tough to stun lock them. It’s actually probably better damage if you don’t stagger them because you can hit their butt more. I do find them pretty bad against morgens and valks, they break stagger so fast and are annoying to hit.
me and my friend just sailed to the ashlands for the first time and got killed instantly by a huge horde of enemies and TWO morgens. we had nearly the best possible equipment for it, fire resistance and major healing mead. what were we even supposed to do??
sail back naked and run for your loot
standard ashlands first experience. you didn’t do anything wrong except maybe instantly dropping a shield generator and portal. some early tips when outnumbered, morgens, asksvins, and valkyries do friendly damage, if you just survive and dodge long enough the big ones will kill the little ones.
Start spawn proofing as soon as you land so you can clear out the enemies and set up a safe zone
But you do gotta clear out that horde first. For that it just takes skill
The ashlands gear does look pretty good. It makes it look like our crafting skill is improving.
If I have one tip for the ashlands: askvins hit harder than they look like they should
But I have a neat trick for them.
If I have one tip for the ashlands: Friendly Fire
I've found the best thing to do is to use raised ground to make a little fortress. That way I can first deal with the Marksman, then take care of the rest. Make the whole thing 5 clicks high, and at least 4 by 4.
the fire isnt friendly and will burn your house down
Been able to stagger berserkers with CBA and moderate axe skill level (50ish during Plains era). Two secondary pokes stagger them quite fast.
Man I miss my map -_-
CBA?
I see
endure my brother! when you are despaired, look to the great tree of life!
anyone looking for someone to join their server? i never played multiplayer before
Wow that’s a long wait
Sister but I shall! 💪

Valheim isn't on gamepass right now, is it?
I noticed earlier for some reason the Xbox app thing on Windows said I could still download the game despite me not owning it, so I figured I'd poke around a little and see what's going on and its letting me play?? I don't own a copy of valheim but its not doing the normal pop up that says you need to own the game to play it.
But wwwhhhyyy?
I bought enshrouded months ago and haven't even installed it yet
I think this is just normal behavior
thought it was mmo but then i couldnt find anyone to play with
Still up?
yeah im playing dark and darker right now. but if you wanna teach me. how many ppl do you have?
All we need is me lol, i cant deal with too many people lol, I always end up being a house bit** and well the work force and defender, I love helping new people tho so dont worry
We gonna vc?
do you have a server?
I do yes
Dms or server vc
Nsa?
no strings attatched lol
Oh nah idc, I just like helping new people
Up to you if its in the server or dms
server
Yall on xbox?
pc but ill make it cross compatible
Oh bet ill be on in like 20 minutes
You can deffently do solo. Been doing it for years
Valheim is one of my favourite game and the only reason I am not playing it is because im saving my viking energy for the deep north release.
I guess technically its because I am at work.
Anybody need one or wanna join my world?
anyone think they could help me w a bug im having ?
?
Thought you was joining us lol,
Will the new roof angles also come with new pillar angles for all the tiers? Could allow making nice circles. Plus those often are used together.
it very much looks like it from the screenshot, there's a very slanty X on top
I see it, I hope so and at all tiers. I didn't pay much attention and notice that at first. Though it looks to just be 2 intersecting pillars I then hope they also add if not already the X pieces for that angle, that could make very pretty walls/windows.
oh i didn't think about-i missed you saying "all tiers".
well, i think they said plains roofs get the new angle too? so i would THINK they'd make all the slanty woods slant too, be silly if it was just the roofs
@sleek ledge iv gotta gom staying in the server till your saved tho, or i can leave it running
I thought yall dissapeard how i join?
ok leme save
we were there fora while lol
The game is really more for playing for a full run together. Should look in #1024264966712340510 for someone willing to commit to a playthrough with you
None of my msgs go through
Odd
Ofc, im sorry I couldn't help more
Two in-game weeks into my no map run and I'm lost 🤣 So now I have a new house.
What, no land marking?
Tsk tsk tsk
Much like Chidi in The Good Place, I have what is called "directional insanity" 🤣
Part of me wants to do a no map run, but I want to be able to use something like the cartography table to at least have a map at base
Unless that already what happens haha
Its a fun challenge. No map.
Wait until you traverse the ocean. Rainy storm. Ah yeah.
My starting island has so many freaking mountains, it's crazy.
Sure lemme get right on that
Honestly, I probably could do it in like 30 minutes.
Small wooden platforms + fires. You win!
Nah, to cheesy
Fires to survive the cold, maybe haha
Cheesy for a couple minutes. Wolf rug comfort for the rest of the game.
Or until I lose my house again XD
Starting a new run, no portal, no map, no deaths. May Odin have mercy on my soul
seed name: h0LySh1t as in "what have I gotten myself into?"
No map sounds like a nightmare lol. Goodluck
Yeah I'm so turned around
Thanks
just got to the ashlands with my friend. we got a portal set up on a rock at shore and we've cleared out the surroundings. it's pretty brutal so far mostly bc of lag. it's a lot of fun tho. where do we get molten cores?
There are entrances around that kind of look like troll caves I think(well a similar shape), you can get the cores in those
for real though, look at the tree more. memorize how any little branch looks when you’re home, then use it to get back. look where the sun or moon is for cardinal directions, use a fence post to point whatever direction to store so you know what exactly what those directions are, you can keep track of how north/south you’re going while walking east/west. leave fires, arrows. theres so many things you can do
my friend also insisted that he would go see what the glowing rocks were. it went how you'd expect.
I spend most of my time looking at the tree
Boom? lol
lol same… “ oh sweet, the new resource to mi-BFFFFFFffffff!!! ….. arite well played devs”
My first time in Ashlands those explosive magma balls tossing me into the lava killed me about as often as the creatures did.
anyone who says they never died in ashlands is lying, spoiled and youtubed everything about it, or cheating
Which was 20 times more irritating with no basalt bombs. I didn't even know they existd yet.
and then you find out how long til they sink😂
i just got there and around two thirds of my deaths on this save are in the ashlands
when the first spire i was mining started to sink lol… that was some adrenaline. thats why you dont spoil things you miss all the fun
Thanks for spoiling things
-# sarcasm
if i wouldnt want any spoilers id avoid any place talking about Valheim.. such as reddit or discord or youtube 😅
I'm gonna try to start a very hard no death run for deep north, and go into the north blind
~~I am CONFIDENT I will survive ~~ I'm going to die
Let me add a sarcasm tag to it
first time playing looking for someone to play with
Got a server up on Xbox vanilla
Were bronze age lemme know if you wanna join 1 boss down
im on pc
No map is no map - cartography does nothing
RIS le escargo!
RIS being rest in slime 😂
🤣
6 Iolite out of 1 Citadel.
We should start a community server for deep north
Have a bunch of us og’s messing around until we all die in the meadows 😂
Hardcore - best players push until hitting deep north
I youtubed it and still got wrecked
100% agreed 😂
I’m just very proud of my first fader kill
No deaths cause I was a mage and spammed the ever loving **** out of my troll and wildstavs 🤣🤣🤣
Fader did not stand a chance 😂
Anyone tryna join xbox mid game?
I've never died in the ashlands
I vote add the qualifier of "people who have been to the ashlands" lol am trying to joke a little.
Darn
Do shields not need refueling or anything if not in the ashlands with those storms? Mainly if just to block rain damaging structures that roofs can't be placed on.
Same lol, was enjoying myself greatly and had a lot of fun with that boss fight
I was surprised by how easy it was but I did also prepare like a maniac and bring powerful weapons so
The shield consumes fuel only if projectile damages it 🙂
So for normal rain damage it could last indefinitely outside of raid damage or something?
Yep, rain does nothing 😁
I have still actually not died to mobs in Ashlands - because I read so much terrible things about the place and went in veeeery cautious and defensive. Very slow progress, short excursions and making small fortified portal outposts all over the place to not need to run out in the open. Eventually I died anyway because falling off flametal spires into lava...
Now getting ready to begin my no-portals assault, not expecting to have the same success with not dying this time.
Huh having a pet in your main rooms wandering your base seems like a good way to tell if something has snuck in before you have strong walls.
Maybe if a tamable cat is added it could be focused partially around that with a wider range? Mainly a very good alarm? Would want it to have some other use too though most likely, well beyond being adorable lol.
Sabre tooth tiger 🐅
I guess I want some cat related stuff and noticed that use of a boar I have in my base.
That would be nice too, though I also wanted like small cats. Something I could keep like a pet to wander inside my base. I do want some progression related to cats too though, I could be missing stuff but feel like felines were a bit neglected.
Breed the big ones to make little ones ❤️
I getcha though 🥰
Feel like cats just have nowhere to be naturally placed in unless boar is moved
Unless like the ||meadow trader|| provides kittens
I want to suggest a out there idea that kind of diverges from the current gameplay a bit but I feel could allow so much fun and options while attracting lots more players. I am nervous to though.
Mainly automation focused parts, gears and subgrids. Training certain animals for certain tasks. A late game reward for all your progression? Allowing using this building system and ways to animate things to really liven up builds and automate certain tasks. Is out there but I feel it really could benefit the enjoyment aspect of this game while attracting a new community of players.
Oh like biome? well they don't have to be 1 to 1 like real life cats, what if they are like mistlands cats that live off of the bunnies?
That sounds very late for a pet that just alerts you
Unless you meant for more utilities
Yea that is why I wanted another purpose with alerting being a secondary use.
Then yeah a jungle cat is cute
jungle?
Deep north - sabre tooth tiger! 🤩
I like the idea of a mistlands cat, the color scheme and aesthetic potential with that biome is massive in my opinion
I am only at mountains and what ive seen of mistlands it looks like a jungle
But then again jungle is used to describe a lot of habitats
It okay if I ask about this though? just feel it is super out there but could be extremely nice and fun to have.
I guess am nervous to post a proper suggestion about it.
I just really like the idea of being able to like making a crane on gears that actually moves, saw a still version in a youtube video that would look so nice if it could move.
Accidental typing when trying to do something?
Nah I was looking for mudae bot
mudae bot?
Modded stuff, folks in #mods-discussion might be able to help 😄 or look into the YT description of that trailer
thanks Asatru I posted there about.
are pine trees seed positive currently? I don't really like the idea of throwing away core wood if not. I doubt it from what I recall but could be mistaking.
Oak trees are the most likely to give you more seeds than you spend but you need some luck to farm any tree infinitely
I know oak give more from experience(even though at least at the time the wiki said otherwise), I just mean core wood, I recall pine giving either 0 or 1 seeds on harvest making them near always negative.
the wiki probably didn't say otherwise (at least i don't remember it having been different at any point within the last year), it's just a bit confusingly explained. ...or confusingly coded in the game?
oaks have a 50% chance to drop extra items when chopped down, then it's a 50/50 between 2 and 3 extra drops
each of those 2-3 drops then has a 40% chance to be acorns, which is then again a 50/50 between 2 and 3 acorns.
so you can get anything from 0 to 9 (extremely rare) acorns from one oak with an average of 1.25. i tested this a while back.
all other non-beech trees unfortunately have an average seed drop rate below 1 per tree, meaning they're almost guaranteed to go extinct eventually
Thanks I just hope that gets changed, I dislike when something like a tree is made non-renewable when it really should be.
Pine trees have a 50% chance to drop 1-2 items, and each item will be one resin, one pine cone or one feather. The feathers have 25% of the drop chance of the other items.
Look at the wiki the numbers are probably correct there https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Pine
I like the number 3 so I vote when it lands on pine cones to give 3 of them or well a range with the average of 3.
Oh wait, that would still be very annoying as I misread the chance of getting one as 44 but the average is .33, maybe 4 then? but that makes me sad due to not being 3 lol
Maybe it would be more interesting if there was some other way of getting tree seeds, you can't farm the trees forever but they won't go extinct
Like greydwarfs dropping pine cones occasionally
I would like it if you could like harvest seeds from a tree without chopping it down.
Plasma you can also adjust your resource drops when you plan on going core wood-chopping. Then when you do get pine cones, you get more than one.
To me that feels cheaty and still doesn't resolve the issue in the base experience.
Every world should have much more than enough core wood to last your whole playthrough unless you're getting very bad luck from every pine tree because it's a random drop
I know, I just still dislike that it technically isn't renewable, makes me not want to dispose of any.
That feels cheaty but you want a way to harvest exclusively pine cones? Am I missing something?
A creative mechanic that is balanced and intended, not you changing your file setting to give you a different experince from how the game was deisgned.
...the game is designed with world modifiers. 🤷♀️
That argument could be used for all resource balancing in the game. Rather the game itself balance resources properly.
😹 ok
The dev’s can’t make everyone happy
Sometimes they just have to add in their best effort to compromise and work from there
Greydwarves dropping random seeds would be cool
I Just read "world should have enough corewood for a whole playthrough"
I mean..the game Sure doesnt Lack of dark forest, thats for Sure xD
I gotta load up the obliterator
@forest jacinth for?
Core
If you are working with wood 😂
Please tell us you aren’t obliterating wood for coal…? 😅
obliderator gives u random coal
its not a 1:1 conversion
the kiln gives u 50 coal from a full stack of wood, while the obliderator gives u half or even less
Never
Just saying why someone would need more corewood
Where can I post my modlist profile for a server
It's not random, these items grant 1 coal:
- 1 trophy
- 5 wood
- 20 arrows or bolts
- 10 random items.
Basically, it's the main function to delete items quickly, getting coal as side product.
is it normal that when i go to sealed tower place and there is nothing than a tar pit ?
is that normal ?
i would shown a screen but can't
I had all of Hildir’s locations skew NE for some reason, but when I checked on a different character it showed the correct locations
Come to help channel if you want to show it, but its often issue with getting the marks from Hildir before bigger update that shifts the POIs afterwards, deleting the marks and getting them from Hildir again should give you correct locations 🙂
worked out thanks <3
i found haldor yesterday 😂 ✌🏻
made
Is the PS release gonna be PS5-only?
My friend's son and I have been playing and want to involve him but he's got a PS4 Pro.
I think the trailer says PS5. Considering the specs of PS4 - even Pro - that would make sense.
Deep north announcement would be such a sick Christmas gift
I’ve been such a good boy.
Iirc the ashlands announcement was in december dev blog, we will have to wait and see if history will repeat itself 😄
This new Ashlands continues to be the easiest yet. We have found like 6 spires on land, or land adjacent, so easy mining of Flametal, we are on our 5th Citadel, and now have a boss location, which is very close by. Plus there are a lot of Flametal spires in addition to the easy ones to mine. Oh, and we find 6 Iolite in one Citadel kind of results in these Citadels. This is putting our previous Ashlands to shame.
hell yeah
All that said, I am NOT looking forward to doing solo play throughs of the Ashlands. The fighting is crazy enough for two of us. If its similar numbers while solo.... yeah, not looking forward to that kind of slog.
Also, what is going on with mobs spawning on the central tower, well after taking it over? Even after we have workbenches, etc... down?
Maybe they were on the top of the tower and fell inside?
We were wondering about possibilities like that after the first time, but we have always immediately dug into the tower ASAP, and looked to be sure they were clear on top from then on. Yet they have still spawned.
Its varied too, from Markman, to the spell caster (Warlock?), to just a warrior.
Its usually just been one, and only once. We have yet to see a repeat after the initial respawn.
We don't hang around in these things, though. We empty them out and then move on. We leave a portal in each one, though.
its for killing farm animals 🤭
my main suggestion for solo ashlands is making an off shore landing spot
using one of the spiral rocks or something
once you're on land all hell breaks loose and you won't be able to get away
but if you set up a little water base with the bubble, you can kinda kite back to it and portal out with the height advantage and are less likely to get overrun
Aye a fortress not even the blobs can damage is kind of a big deal. They're not very nice looking to build inside, but as outposts or waypoints to head out from they are great.
I'm preparing for my no-portals assault and I'm really dreading this bit. I need to bring enough stuff in the ship to raise walls and build a half decent outpost with repair capabilities, and enough food to last me until I have found mats for stone portals. (My plan is to unlock portals once I have the mats for stone portals, I'm not quite masochistic enough to play through Ashlands entire without portals...)
And if I die before I get a bed down I'm going to have to repeat the process with a new ship, gods...
Yeah, I started to do some building inside of our first one, but then I was like why? Its ugly here. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to be. So I stopped.
Yeah, the fortresses I captured last time I evened out the ground in the courtyard and set up a portal and some storage, leaving the ramp standing outside so I can quickly hop inside if I'm on the run from something bad...
i filled my boat with rocks to fortify a landing spot, it worked pretty well
you can mine the spires too and the grausten helps a lot
Yep. I do raised earth. About 5 clicks high and at least a 4 by 4. Gives you a place to fight from, and only having to worry about Marksman and blobs. Gives you some breathing space compared to being down on the ground with all the warriors, Morgen, etc....
ground is murder lol
Yeah, that will be my strategy. First naval bombardment from the sea to knock out any spawners in range, then quickly get a plaftorm up big enough to build a sheltered hut with shield generator...
i was watching a playthrough from last year of a person going in blind, reminds me of my groups first attempt
we died like 6 times and somehow barely kept a portal up a few spires away from the coast
Given enough time a Morgan will completely collapse those spires. (Ask me how I know) Which is why I use raised earth. I eventually widen it out to be big enough for a mini base. I then use Gausten to protect things like the portal and generator, work bench and stone cutter.
The beach I found last time had these ruins out in the water, after a while I realised no mobs spawned in that one so if I see such a place this time I'll approach with that between me and the shore, might make it possible to make a more sneaky landing.
Suppose a well-placed blob will bring it all down, so not for a permanent hovel though
This time we found one that worked perfectly as a boat house for the Drakkar. I was amazed it stayed up through all the fighting we did right in front of it.
It has a ton of vines on it as well. I've been meaning to try to build platforms around it to harvest them all, but we haven't really needed them, so I have not made the time to do that. Just to make a proper walk way out to the Drakkar.
One cool thing about it is serpents keep spawning next to it. so we have gotten a nice amount of meat from them, as well as their teeth and trophies.
I did not expect the serpents to spawn essentially on shore.
yeah the ruined castle lookin things are pretty neat
Yeah, wish we could repair them, since they break so easily.
Does anyone know if ballista / stake / trap damage is affected by difficulty?
I would assume not
somehow i forgot to pause and a troll killed me and my base nooooooooooooooooooo
im doing a no map run so at least it wasn't while i was far away lol
No, the base damage of player-built defensive structures like the Ballista, Stakes, and Traps is not directly affected by the world's difficulty setting. Their damage output remains constant regardless of whether the game is set to Easy, Normal, or Hard.
Although I think that's the correct answer, I don't trust your ai summaries thor
Ive been trying to think of how I want to approach the Ashlands on my permadeath run. It’s been a while since I played Ashlands
Not a fan of this whole raised terrain / sitting on rock spires shenanigans though. Feels cheesy
Sometimes cheese is the only answer
And even with cheese you still stand a high chance of dying
I refuse to accept that
I feel like throwing some ice blobs or building some traps may help fight them horde while spawn proofing a small area
No, they will deal their base damage
I’m curious (legit, no sarcasm) what counts as a viable tactic and what counts as “cheesing.”
If you haven't been to ashlands for a while maybe going with a commands character just to practice against the enemies wouldn't be a bad idea?
I haven't been to ashlands in a normal playthrough yet, only with test characters like this
You are very brave my guy 🥳
Good luck!
The only thing that will save you is having a good landing spot and building a safe zone asap - troll traps will help, so will spikes, but nothing will save you from a spawner, Morgan, vultures asksvin and valkaries all at the same time
So picking a landing spot will be the most important part of ashlands- not to mention avoiding Bonemaws so you can even get off your boat in one piece 🙈
Are you playing with any world modifiers?
You know what is the most cheesy thing we can do in game to me is? Spawn proofing. "Oh, look! I put down a camp fire/workbench/full list! So now the bad guys can't randomly show up within this radius!" Yet doing qusi realistic things like digging trenches, or raised earth walls is cheesy. You know, things that mimic what real life warriors do to this day to stay alive.
That was kind of why I asked my question
Sorry, I didn't see your question until after I was done writing my post. 😄 But yeah, thats my thoughts about what is "cheesing". If I am doing something that mimics what my Army trains our soldiers to do to stay alive and/or get an advantage on our enemies, I'm doing it. Call it cheesy all you want.
Earthen reinforced walls have been a thing since…well, since before the wheel
Definitely thousands of years.
I guess cheesy warriors have been a thing for that long too.
Even in cultures not known to keep domesticated animals for milk production
Very hard max raids no boss portals
A root harnesk could help, a lot of the damage there is pierce but the damage that isn't will be very high.
I've got a way too long list of thinks i consider cheesy / OP and want to stay clear of 😅
But really its up to the person. There's no set definition. For me personally I think I consider a lot more things cheesy or gameplay breaking than others
I get that, Its why my wife and I don't dodge roll or parry. Totally unrealistic.
Not the dodge roll itself, for an example, but being made immune.
Mhm
does valheim have progression or is it just a survival game
It does, but how would 'just a survival game' not have progression?
It gets more difficult as you go into each new biome.
theres plenty of survival games that dont have an "end"
Valheim will have an ending in 1.0
Oh, this has an end,. just not yet.
It will be triggered by killing every boss, not just the final boss
Generally for me I find things that take very little skill or break intended gameplay or just give too much benefit with practically zero drawbacks are kinda cheesy
So I’m okay with parries or dodges for example because they require timing, but something that I decide to play without (despite the majority of the playerbase finding them to be just fine), is resistance meads. They give you resistance to all the relevant elements for a super cheap recipe cost and no sacrifice to the rest of your combat power. Can even overide weaknesses
And it makes the elemental resistances on armor feel useless. So I find it more fun and interesting having to make choices on what armor to use for resistances
is it even close to being at 1.0
Yep, we will have to defeat all the bosses, then we go to Valhalla.
It's the next update
oh
Then the Valkyrie crashes en route and we wake up in a wagon. “Hey…you’re finally awake!”
Thats the great thing about games like these. We get to chose how we play them.
I use Tower Shields and don't parry or dodge roll. My wife doesn't even use shields. We all have fun.
drop rate for bear trophies is ass
Gotta kill more bears
killed 12 bears in the last like 2 hours
RNG can suck. RNG can be awesome. One time I killed over 30 bears to get a trophy. Another time I got a trophy on my very first bear.
RNG=Random Number Generation, for those who did not know, like I didn't know, when I first joined this Discord.
ye ik what rng is, just sayin that the drop rate sucks.
Its 10%. RNG can just suck.
considering how rare bears are, 10% is kinda ass. i got lucky rn that theres like 3 common spawn locations right where im at, so by the time im done killing one i find another one within a minute or so. but 10% is ass
I don't find bears to be rare. I find them more often than Trolls. You just have to run around and explore.
I find them when I desperately don’t want to find them 😅
they are more common than trolls, but trolls also have a much higher chance to drop trophies, from my experience. could have just gotten lucky but the amount of trolls ive killed to the amount of trophies ive gotten is astranomically higher than my ratio of bears/trophies. over the course of several playthroughs
Bears spawn faster than trolls but their limited hearing can make them hard to find
they also take much longer to kill than trolls do
I agree with you on Troll trophies. I have far more of those than bear trophies.
2-3x the hp i think
like this playthrough currently ive killed 4 trolls, gotten 3 trophies. killed almost 20 bears, 0 trophies
Pretty sure they increased the percentage on troll trophies, ever since they made us need them for fishing. All trophies needed for fishing seem to drop much more often than the others.
I know I'm late to this, it depends. In a normal playthrough, anything that doesn't remove fun from the game for a given group should be fair game.
Ai manipulating Moder/yag/queen is probably a no go for most people, while building walls to prevent raids is more widely used.
Challenge runs? Whatever gives you the challenge you desire.
Anything that is obviously unintended or overpowered cheese is doing something that wasnt made to be done
Ie campfires are so easy it's almost easier than going god mode and flying around hitting shit and obviously wasnt intended
idk what the context is but tbh anything that gives you the desired result without having to go through the normal means of achieving said result is cheesing
Not inherently
If i build a hill and shoot yagluth is that cheese or planning?
I define it but going "what would a dev think"
Campfires Obviously were not meant to kill elder
You can plan to cheese 😅
Shooting Yag takes forevvvvvveeeeerrrr though. So if that is how you want to take down Yag, more power to you. 😄
My line is drawn at interaction.
If you build a tree house where the boss cannot even target you - cheese.
If you build a bunker where he's still raining meteors but they cannot hit you - planning.
sitting in a secure area where youre free to just hit the target without any fear of retaliation 100% is cheesing
I agree
same thing with the bonemass cheese where u just sit on top of the spawner and use a stagbreaker
Never seen that
See that seems harder than just HITTING HIM
He's not like hard to avoid
can be in multiplayer
lag
...block?
Kinda what shields are for
Spacing
Never had an issue with lag
Sometimes you just gotta assume
Even then bonemass is so underscaled for the tier
You can solo most bosses in about 2 minutes. Moder being the one likely to take longer because of flying.
Well yeah lag makes everything worse. If my recent moder fight were any more laggy than it was, we likely would have been TPK-ed
that very well may be, but that doesnt mean the issue doesnt exist.
See my thing is with that many players bosses should just get cooked no? Unless you're under geared
The Queen I have only gotten down to under 5 minutes, and I have yet to even fight Fader, so no idea there.
I mean sure but can't you block and backwalk or preroll
Fader is twice as tanky as queen but i wouldn't say its hard lots of moving around
u cant just roll super early, you have to time rolls or youll get hit anyway lmao
By bonemass? No
His range doesnt exist
Spacing
You do have a larger dodge window with Bonemass tbf
I was effectively pre-silver on hard. We didn't have the DPS to pull that off.
Just move around
look im not gonna argue with a professional redditor lol im just gonna say lag is an issue, in multiplayer, and makes melee combat a little frustrating at times
Oh i dont fight bosses until im leveled as a solo player
It's asking to get shit on
Even fader i can 100% of the time beat just be patient
Yep. I always put in the time to get fully levelled.
I kinda care less for the bosses the best part of the game is exploring and building
The bosses are kinda meh
If we had the damage, our deaths would have been halved.
I just don't like dying, so I am kind of always practicing doing a Zero Death Run. 😄 😄
i have combat difficulty maxed and i fight bosses well before i have the gear from their respective biomes. it makes it more fun for me, gives more of a challenge. only 2 i really use maxed gear for are queen and fader
See that doesn't make them harder just longer
Its the same after a point
I don't use parry or do dodge rolls, because I've played this since long before we could set difficulties. Those two things made this game too easy since day 1. Then I got into doing Zero Death runs. That is challenging enough for me.
The only 2 I would overgear for atm are yag and queen...
with your logic theres not a single fight in any game in existence that is hard, because you just have to get the timing right and then boom no issues
I'm probably not even fighting either this run tbh.
the more chances you have of messing up a roll or a parry/block, the more chances you have of failing the fight. therefore the more health/dmg a mob has, the more difficult the fight is going to be, objectively, regardless of whether or not you beat the fight without dying
ive done a few zero death runs, i always do well early and then i just die to something stupid like forgetting that i have no active food and jumping off a small ledge or just running out of stam in an unlucky situation lol
i dont think id have the endurance for a true 0 death.
by lategame, I would likely have died to something absolutely stupid.
Do you have the Perception or Agility for it? 😏
at times
i would 100% do a segmented 0 death.
but then thats less of a full 0 death, more of a "no deaths between x" where x is whatever rule I come up with for checkpoints.
Combat difficulty also increases enemy movespeed
They get bigger too but that can make it easier in some situations because you can hit them from a little further away and their attack hitboxes aren’t bigger
Are you 100% sure on that? I’ve never noticed
It’s not a huge increase and it’s only for walking and running, not flying and swimming
Can u show me where u saw that
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/World_Modifiers
you can also check this in-game with commands to find current world keys
Interesting. I had never noticed
More to my point then that higher difficulty = harder fights. Who would have thought? Crazy concept
I usually use mistlands gear against yag but that’s more just because I’m excited to start mistlands and don’t feel like fighting yag
I mean from a design perspective it is ideal if there are more factors to difficulty than just health/damage stats. Remember when goblins and seekers had brutal AI? Remember when the ashlands were as bloody as the battle of Geonosis? (one of the bloodiest battles of Star Wars' clone wars).
yeah id rather bring a shield staff and mistwalker personally
I’m not arguing with you lol, I’m the one that has been saying from the beginning that higher difficulty = harder fights. It was that other dumb fuck that was being a redditor about it and saying that all it does is take longer to kill shit, but that it doesn’t make anything harder
All of that after saying that cheesing bonemass with stagbreaker on top of the spawn would be harder than just fighting him normally
Forgot u can’t put gifs in here
I suppose I could have worded it better. I do also agree with the endurance idea too. Theres a reason some games reward combos as heavily as they do.
iron mace isnt necessary for bonemass is it
i feel like the bronze mace will do just fine
..
bronze will be slower, but you can do it. its just a longer fight, more chances to fumble it.
Ye bronze mace is fine
i just dont wanna waste the iron lol
If you’re wanting to do a full bodied playthrough and actually explore all the weapon options of each biome go for it but tbh me and most of my buddies just run in there with either a stagbreaker or a bronze mace
yeah no this is like my 8th time playing, doin a solo mapless
100% just use bronze, save the iron for something else unless u plan on using clubs as ur main weapon type
i suppose this could be the battleaxe run lol
i just rock the mace through swamp cause it's busted there
I’m also doing a mapless run rn, max difficulty on combat
im not swag enough to up the cmb probably lol
Me and my buddies are running this til the new update drops
actually maybe i can try it on hard
i encountered an abomination, a 1 star elite, a couple blobs, and some skeletons - somehow was able to beat them all simultaniously
the draugr towns really mess up the abominations AI
Nice. Ya the aboms have a fuckin meltdown any time there’s more than like 3 trees/structures around them lol
honestly a part of me would be tempted to make a mod to toughen the ai with combat difficulty, and then try a 3x resources very hard.
itd essentially just revert the goblin/seeker nerfs.
i almost always run 3x resources. ive got family and a job so i dont have time to spend grinding tf out of every biome just to make basic shit
yean, for a first time playthrough, 1x is fine. after that, 3x please.
im doin 2x cause 3 felt kinda over the top for me but totally understandable lol
Heh, I feel like I am always swimming in everything on 1.0. I can't even imagine what increased resources would be like, storage bonanza?
for some things ya. for core resources, not really
if i had to do 3x the grinding for wood, stone, marble, etc i would kms
wood lol
I also prefer the classic x1 🙂 tho x1,5 speeds things up quite nicely
I've never really struggled at all to get what I need and then some, but that's the beauty of the world modifiers.
I do 1.5
if the only game i played was valheim and grinding didnt bother me as much as it did, 1x wouldnt be bad. but i dont want 90% of my time spent on the game to be resource gathering
That is entirely valid 😄 and its the point behind the resource modifier
ye
Also, the fact that now that I no longer need bear trophies, three out of four bear kills drops them - it's kinda classic...
As per usual with things like this xD
Holy bugger, Krom backstab damage from secondary is kinda out there
Poor little bear
yep! that it is!
i built the krom once. biggest waste of my mats ever lol... not my style at all
I hated it first time, now I am sticking with it to try and get used to it. It is better vs groups now that it doesn't have multi-target penalty anymore. Huge improvement. But I still get in trouble too often for comfort, almost got killed by a bunch of fulings. Stamina gobbler.
the 2 things I like about the longswords are both cosmetic for me right now. shield and shortsword are noticeably better for my playstyle. heck the longsword isnt even capable of some of the stuff I used to do pre-al
1,5x is nice for co-op IMO.
also it pmo that they added a new fist weapon, but instead of adding it to a later biome so that u can effectively use fists in mist/ashlands, they added it to the fuckin forest. when its by far easier to just get the mountain set
New enemy in black forest, so makes sense new weapon for black forest too. But there is ||plains tier|| too.
Used to feel pretty similarly about battleaxes 🙂 but after you actually try the weapon for a while and get used to it they can be quite effective 😄
-# However shield + single handed weapon is probably the most well-rounded playstyle you can ask for, so it will be hard to beat. Especially with weapon you are not necessarily used to.
at least you can hunt bear heads and the merchant at the same time
well ya but for only slightly more dmg
the longsword's "frame data" is straight up incompatible with my melee style.
Sword'n Board is hard to beat, you are ready for most situations. When you get in trouble and stamina is low, the Krom just doesn't cut it. I suppose I could use it better, but if I expect a hard fight I swap back to the trusty sword and shield...
I prefer sword and dinner plate personally
the final sword is so damn cool i cant help but stick to swords
also mistwalker is just straight up busted
sword and shield, spear and shield. the two trusty duos
I love Mistwalker
oh spears actually help giga with the trombones too
as much as I love the new blades, I cannot move on from mistwalker unless deep north hard requires them.
Vikings. Do you like valheim?
Cause I do.
Woooooo valheim. Have a good day everybody.
if it werent for u being able to upgrade shit later on, mistwalker would be my late game weapon. a lv 4 mistwalker was legit making ashlands easy mode for me lol
I kept using it in Mistlands even after I crafted the sword there. Frost & spirit damage at lvl 4 makes it better in Ashlands I think. Maybe later when nidhogg can be fully upgraded it can compete.
Still remember the times people used to say stuff along the lines "Dont use Mistwalker, Frostner bettah!" xD
Also more durability
shock swords real dangerous in ashlands
i accidentally tagged multiple dverger homies and almost got 1 shot
ye the one thing i hate about the ashlands weapons is the lack of durabilty
Silver sword does more damage than mistwalker against charred and valkyries for 33% less stamina too
Haha was fighting a bear and this two star skelly comes up and backstabs it
Killstealing bone heap!
true. i should do the numbers on silver vs mist against goblinking. though stamina rarely matters for me against yag.
That shouldn’t be possible if the bear was attacking you
me and someone i used to play with it was at the time their first run were in the ashlands and he used the fracture staff against some seekers and set an entire camp of dvergr after us, made it painfully hard to get our stuff back cause it was a small clearing surronded by a bunch of pretty steep walls, there were really no easy ways in/out. died like 6 times just trying to recover our original inventories
Ashlands dvergr are significantly stronger than mistlands dvergr because they need to be balanced for the enemies there, while mistlands dvergr are designed for players to fight
the hand grenades we have now are probably pretty great in that situation
By backstabbing I meant it simply attacked the bear from behind, not an actual backstab with the ka-tching sound 🙂
But it did get the killing blow
any tips for finding haldur without a map
I'd sail along BF coasts, his camp is nearly always close to the sea
Eeeeh, not really, might be a bit confirmation bias if you are usually looking for him via boat 😄
I mix it up often and quite frequently find him inland
But yeah, he is near shore often enough to be really helpful 🙂
Eeek krom stab didn't stagger a vile, that could have turned out to be fatal, phew
Bjorn and Unbjorn are cool names indeed 😄
megabear
Saw one completely destroying a group of seekers last night
so small
