You're not the only one. I am a bit more chill towards using small amounts of iron in certain recipes, but it's overkill having it required for every other thing in the plains

Am I missing something, or are the so-called "blob bombs" a noob trap? Why would you ever want to spend the significant resources it takes to make these things in order to summon a creature that's hostile to you, for the extremely marginal utility of throwing it into a pack of enemies that there are safer and less expensive ways to deal with?

Seriously, what is this team's fixation with creating items that have have monkey's paws that utterly undermine their value?

lyric copper

A cute play on words, but I fear it doesn't really address the issue.

tacit crystal
lyric copper
# tacit crystal As most of them belong to undead faction they're hostile against other enemy mob...

No, I get that part--that's why I talked about using them for dealing with a pack of enemies. I've tried what you describe, as well as other applications, e.g. frost blobs against Seekers and Charred (for slow).

Summoning an enemy that's hostile to you that may or may not succeed in taking out the things you brought it against seems like an expensive, RNG-dependent, and risky way to deal with enemies that you're going to be amply capable of dealing with by the time you can craft the thing. I see the intent, I just think it's a huge miss so far--especially the whole inappropriate nonsense of making your own summons hostile to you.

Though it's not unique in being able to do that in the ashlands so it doesn't really have a niche still

Eh, I guess. I'm certainly glad they're finally adding uses for trophies for when I'm not running Epic Loot to use them up. I just wish the uses were... well, useful, instead of feeling like yet another deliberate monkey's paw to try to get players to be killed by their own items.

If the things weren't hostile to their own summoner, I'd actually embrace them as a way to summon a temporary pet while you go through an area, which would be balanced by the fact that it'd despawn when you leave.

tacit crystal
undone forum
lyric copper
# tacit crystal Do you feel the same about Trollstav?

Yes, but with some caveats--Trollstav at least has the redeeming value of being overwhelmingly powerful enough to have a niche use in Ashlands. But I still think it's a crap item that's buggy, unreliable, and has more downsides than it's worth 99% of the time.

#

At this point "ha ha the player's own thing is hostile to them" is a recurring-enough trope to feel intentional, and I think it's a trash mentality towards "balancing" items like these--especially a consumable.

lyric copper
shy marlin
#

how's trollstav buggy?

tacit crystal
#

But I see your point. ๐Ÿ‘

lyric copper
# shy marlin how's trollstav buggy?

Primarily because its summon has a tendency to wander off, get distracted by anything but the area I wanted it to focus on, gratuitously aggro things I didn't want it to, or gets stuck in terrain--and you can't just despawn them, so if you need to summon another in order to put it where you need it to be, you have to wait for another to die or wander far enough away to not count.

It's got pretty much all the downsides that a massive NPC "companion" could have, up to and including friendly fire.

shy marlin
#

I haven't encountered any of those issues ๐Ÿคท

#

I think if you could just despawn the trolls at any moment in time it'd be absurdly op lol

distant girder

so I was telling my friend who is new to the game how to bury a workbench and not have it break
and the word I was looking for was "anchor" but what came out was "snorkel" so that's now a thing

merry pebble
agile star
#

So I just killed bonemass and I gotta say, the bear armor set impressed me. The initial stages of the swamp were a piece of cake and the boss fight was amazing. That extra 15% stamina regen you gain is very noticeable and helps a lot during fights or just doing anything in general. Even going into the mountains I still prefer the full bear armor set, the 25% extra damage you take it barely noticeable if you parry and/or dodge roll away from things but even if you take a hit it is still ok if you have 2 hp foods

#

The only downside is that the bears at first are a bit challenging to beat. But after you learn their moveset and kill. Your first 2 bears, you can get the Paws of the Bear tier 2 from their drops and after that they are a piece of cake. You don't even have to cheese them with walls and campfires

#

And a minor downside that I had that other people might not have is the trophy drop rate which is at 10%, however after killing 40 bears I only managed to get 1 trophy. (side note) I made the root mask after killing 2 abominations in the swamp because I wanted to save my poison resistance meads during my swamp stage but during the boss fight I used the bear set with the poison resistance mead

distant girder
merry pebble

vocal stone

yep it looks like it crit me

agile star
#

That's probably the corpse run buff, do you know about it?

vocal stone

nope

agile star

So when you retrieve your things from your grave, for the next 50 seconds I believe or more you get resistance vs all physical damage and super increased health regen

vocal stone

hmm that would explain this situation

agile star

Yes, what shield are you using?

#

And foods?

vocal stone

bronze buckler deer / minced food / bear

agile star

vocal stone
#

and if he have stars than what i run ? ๐Ÿ˜„

agile star
#

You run back and shoot him with arrows

#

Or dodge roll his attacks but that's more advanced. Also the axes in this game are super slow attacking compare to the other weapons

#

Until you get to the endgame the axes are super slow

vocal stone
#

ye i just start using iron mace

#

is soo much faster

agile star
#

The iron mace is the best weapon in the swamp except when you fight abominations you need to use an axe or sword

vocal stone
#

ye abominations hit like a truck - 50 % hp on hit i try to parry and miss ๐Ÿ˜„

agile star
#

Parrying imo is better because you deal double damage for a couple of seconds after that

yep and with axe i have problem getting that 3 hit for more dmg with mace i do it all time

i also want to try that 2 hand axe but is so expensive

#

@agile star doing it but is more about time / grind / frustration, when i was farming bronze after my 4 trip getting so litle every time and needing to run for 5 min each way i was going to just quit game cuz i hate weight limits in games so for me is just better use mods to have fun

agile star

For me because I played this game for 1200 hours now, so I know how to get stuff quicker in vanilla with 0 mods and also I select the world modifier of the portals to be able to transfer any material so that way you can transfer everything you want with portals and the weight limit does not matter

agile star
# graceful crescent Yo which is better the Iron Atgier or Iron sword

It depends on what you want. The iron atgeir is fantastic with the secondary attack that spins around and staggers and knockbacks everything it touches, also has longer range but you cannot use a shield with it because it is too handed. The sword is a balanced weapon good damage decent AOE and you can use a shield. You choose and pick one or make both

but u can still pary with that right?

I can tank a troll but a bear, not so much, I can still parry it but even if its max (bronze level 4 for now) i HAVE to play coop

#

I cant beat it on my own

I tried using atgier and then switching shield but im not very fast with it cus im on controller

#

If im in the swamp I will get attacked by Draugers for sure, so its not that effective

rugged bridge

Atgier helps when there are multiple melee targets on all sides like you would see in the plains encounters with fuling

#

yet... I seen it cheese by building a little earth pit and hitting all the mobs through the pit

graceful crescent
rugged bridge
#

The fact that it gives iframes and regenerates a bit of stamina now means you can just casually face tank mobs like a troll or a bear and get away with it easily, as for hordes, spin spin spin

Later on in the game you'll get such a ranged option that doesn't require too much aiming

Can't say an atgeir is an ideal weapon for being a tank, but as long as you've got someone with you, parrying's alright. If you're alone, parrying with an atgeir is less preferable than dodging and using the secondary to stagger

visual granite

really? ive never felt they were particularly strong, but then again i havent used them much

shy marlin
#

They have a learning curve, but once you get them the game becomes pretty trivial

#

The shear amount of control and damage they're capable of is absurd

#

And it's a proactive strategy rather than a reactive strategy like parrying

#

So you just stagger and kill things before they even get an oppurtunity to even make an attempt at hitting you

gray sand

gray sand

#

And you get less armor than padded

shy marlin
#

Bear armor also has that

stuck lake
gray sand
#

No.

stuck lake
#

aw

visual ivy
# shy marlin Bear armor also has that

Well, bear armor kinda incentivizes player to NOT make a full set
You can make the "chestpiece" and "pants" and upgrade them to tier 3 with barely any effort, and then add some helmet to make yourself an armor that's stronger than a bronze set

shy marlin
#

Idk not going full bear armor is a bit crazy

gray sand
#

Increased slash/chop very useful.

#

Massively oversized hat, not so much ๐Ÿ˜„

visual ivy
#

I mean, what's the point of getting it when you're using blunt weapons

shy marlin
#

Increased stam regen rate is insane

visual ivy
#

And that 25% penalty makes your armor a lot less efficient

shy marlin
#

nah lmao

gray sand
#

So in the context of "I use only blunt weapons" -- yes, not as good.
But you're choosing to force that context ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

#

Also the weakness applies only to your armor, which means nothing if you're blocking.

visual ivy
#

Still, there's like no point in making a bronze armor now because you get showered in bear hides

gray sand
#

No point?

visual ivy
#

And bear armor is better than bronze

gray sand
#

Better is subjecthive.

neon steppe
shy marlin
#

yea they should nerf the bear armor value or buff the bronze armor value

#

It is silly

gray sand
#

Or give heavy armors set bonuses...

visual ivy
#

Because upgraded bronze takes hours of ore grind, unlike bear armor, materials for which is just junk that fills up your chests passively

gray sand
#

Some of us enjoy mining?

chrome badge
#

Bronze needs a buff or material cost cut tbf, but bear armor is not incentivizing not making the full set.

visual ivy
#

I mean, you can skip on the bear headgear and get the upgraded hide one to get the same benefits as the bronze set would provide, but without the damage vulnerability

chrome badge
chrome badge
visual ivy
#

You will genuinely run out of copper ore in the entire forest for the set alone

chrome badge
#

Paired with the Elder power, the Swamps and it's rain debuff can be much less punishing where stamina is concerned.

visual ivy
#

It depends on player skill level then, how much confidence they have in their parry/evasion ability

chrome badge
#

It took maybe 30 minutes.

visual ivy
#

Good generation then

chrome badge
#

Decent enough, but I've never had a small black forest where copper isn't common enough to make mining difficult.

visual ivy
#

I've had forests with only 3-4 nodes at a reasonable distance

chrome badge
#

Out of roughly 7 playthroughs.

visual ivy
#

In any case it's still smelting, which implies massive woodcutting and time investment into a set that's a bit better than the one you get after killing 4 bears

#

Personally I will always dislike the bronze grind

chrome badge
#

I can't argue that, but you can also be just as unlucky and not encounter bears.

visual ivy
#

That'll be highly unlikely

chrome badge
#

I don't mind it, it comes in handy later in useful crafts.

#

So is not having copper nodes though.

visual ivy
#

Actually I forgot about the troll set

#

Okay maybe bear set is okay if you compare it to the troll one

chrome badge
#

I used troll gear all the way to Ashlands, not actively, it's just my go to new biome exploring set.

#

Less detection radius is massive around unknown enemies.

visual ivy
#

Then I guess the main issue is bronze set being kinda ass

#

Too much effort for no benefit and a -10% movement penalty

chrome badge
#

Ultimately yeah it needs a change, but it will still serve those players who do nothing but run from Trolls and Bears until they have better armor.

visual ivy
#

That is also true

#

Trolls and bears are pretty tough without bronze gear if you're new

chrome badge
#

Most definitely, a bear almost got me on my first fight with one because of the bite attack it can do from time to time.

#

Just when I thought I knew it's attack pattern, the strongest attack mixed it up.

visual ivy

thought all bucklers give 10

round shields 5, tower can't parry xd

If bucklers all give 10 and normal shields give 5, I can understand that.
If only Carapace gives 10...

The other bucklers give 5

nocturne wolf

I think all bucklers should give 5 they're good enough already

Also I don't want banded shield to be too much worse than iron buckler because I like how it looks

Bucklers giving 5 and normal shields giving 10 would be how I would do it tbh.

Gives you an actual reason to use normal shields over bucklers.

I think it would "better" or at least more interesting if higher difficulties gave you more adrenaline.

Also as much as I understand it being on Fader Power, I think a ++% Adrenaline Gain Armor Set would be a good addition.
