It really shines in like parry --> dundr --> parry --> dundr against morgen but that's it
Yes but if I wanted to be in melee range I would just have melee weapon ๐
yeah at max skill you should be able to do two shots in one parry window to instapop the morgen from full
at least on normal lmao
otherwise it's decidedly mid
you spend much more time animation locked in melee range with an actual melee weapon of comparable (burst) damage like 2h sword tho, so you can pick away at enemies pretty safely
why you'd ever do that when embers exists idk
finally got to ashlands today and damn
they weren't joking
Raided a fortress too, without a battering ram
It was hell, my group got stuck there for like a hour
Yeah you are supposed to batter those ๐
omg traveling to our queen marker we fell into a mountain biome in the ocean almost froze to death then right into an ashlands biome??? with a bonemaw <.<
we all died, longship was under half hp before the bonemaw.
Yeah I felt that
Someone in our group said that "you can't get siege equipment until you get a cog from the fortress"
Bonemaw vs. Sea Serpent is always fun to watch.
So we just like, tried to go in with wooden bridges (did not go well)
Worst part is enemies stacking up like crazy and destroying the server performance
Staff of Fire OP.
Is embers really that good?
I'm trying other ones so far
AoE damage is king vs. multiple enemies.
I can't see embers being strong in ashlands
Check the damage numbers and look at how much of it is blunt, not fire.
Eh it's 40-ish blunt iirc
120
Well it's at max level
120 at lvl 1
And I'm on 40
Oh, well
It's 120 Blunt, 120 Fire rank 1 and then only the Fire scales up.
True but we have training dummies now ๐
So just grab Frost Staff and machine gun that boy.
No way in hell I'm gonna spend irl hours doing this shit
They better come up with a better system instead
They won't. And they system is fine as it is.
If you dislike just hit F5 and devcommand it.
No? You need to spend too much time on it I think
Considering that you loose levels when you die
Plus it's not really needed to beat the boss anyways
The sole thing I would change about weapons and skills is I would remove the forced random damage range that has no purpose.
Also true
Both from enemies and player
It clashes do much with defense calculation system too
Stone Axe with 100% skill is not 15 damage.
It is 13-15..
Why? What does this add to the game other than "sometimes it takes more hits than it should because... oh wait, no reason."
I think it goes back to a little bit of realism. Not every hit is perfect.
Arbitrary randomness for the sake of randomness is dumb.
If we had something like "critical hit chance" that would be fine.
True, we need D&D inspired D20 dice throws
insane combination of takes LMFAO
but yeah embers is pretty good in Ashlands just because its so fucking safe, ranged, and AOE
the speedrunner strat is demolisher thru walls
Vinny reached the mistlands. Vinny is not happy about it.
Mistlands best biome
Everything is better than Meadows.
I absolutely hate the mistlands
I dont know what I hate the most about it though. I think its how seekers have massive kickback to all their attacks, mixed with how impractical the terrain is.
How do we feel about multiplying drop rate in single player
It's your game do what you want to maximize your personal enjoyment
Your world your rules.
Do as you please and don't care what anyone else thinks about it.
i like having 1.5x in solo world, makes it less tedious to harvest stuff, means more exploring than farming for materials and food stuff
but more than 1.5x makes it too abundant
once you get the Feather Cape it gets easier
until you got burned to death in an instant by a Gjall
๐ฟ
NO CAPES
no armor
No food ๐
no metal
True about the cape. I still hate the mistlands.
I wish that drop rate and spawn frequency were two different options
Lightfood mead makes mistlands travel much easier if you're not doin that
Also im salty because I got one shotted by a fuling earlier, marking my second death.
Feels like I shouldnt have died at all
if you can use it ๐ญ
i wonder what Black Metal actually is considering the only thing that drops em are Fulings
petrified Fuling blood?
Humans have iron in our blood. Fulings have blackmetal.
iirc it is actually just from meteorites.
As I read, blackmetal was an alloy the fulings used to know how to make but lost after their society collapsed. Now they all wear scraps of whatever tools they used to have.
I think I read that on tv tropes. I wonder if its actually explained as such ingame, now that I think about it.
There's a runestone in the game that explains the origins of it.
I want the school splitter axe
unrelatedly
what do I actually need from the mistland before I head toward the ashlands?
In a land far from here I once saw a star come unfastened from the great curtain of night and fall into the sand. It glowed red when I approached but by morning was cool. Blessed sword-flesh, furnace-food, a gift of strong metal from the Gods!
so it is meteorite metal
well then
portal materials and a lot of stamina
I need I need eitr
Killing Queen with EITR balls is incredibly satisfying tbh.
bro is weaponizing chernobyl against a bunch of bugs
do you mean just dropping eitr balls everywhere in the IC and wait for the Queen to die on her own from the radioactivity
Yup ๐
๐ญ
it must take a while tho
i never thought of doing that
Bring more if it is taking too long.
Last time I did it I think I had 450 balls on the floor ๐
yeah but like... dang
Odin probablty didnt have to. Casted "powerword scrunch" on her and that was about it
brain over matter in a way :p
Just got into the mistlands and I feel like Stephen King is gonna sue someone ๐คฃ
I just got into Mistlands as well, well haven't traveled there yet, but I just beat Yagluth. Haven't defeated him since 2019. Didn't know walking in circles was so effective. Preparing to get wrecked in Mistlands.
I'm holding up pretty well so far with full padded an black metal
I will say, the big floaty things suck so keep your eyes up
Most times they make noises, so you know they are around, but with the mists, they often stealth attack you anyways. Still, just knowing they are around is a huge help.
The trick with gjall is to have 100 in your bow skill
I'm in the 60's, I kill them just fine. A 100 skill would definitely make it happen faster.
I imagine it's overkill but once I saw they did fire damage, I keep 1 or 2 resist meads and I find that reduces their damage a good amount
Yeah, with the mead active I just stand there and shoot them until they blow up. I don't take all that much damage. Its been a VERY long time since I last ran into a starred Gjall so no idea how well the mead works with them.
Hello can we trade item between players in valheim? I never play multiplayer
Is there someone willing to give cultist trophy? Im tired of farming frost caves and still no drop. I want to craft fenrir hood ๐ค
There's a help channel for those sorts of things
idk how trading works personally
The difficulty spike between a non starred and starred seeker is INSANE
Non starred aren't even a concern. I can fight 3 with no problem. I just got 2-hit by 1 star seeker, 1 of those hits being breaking my block when I parried
i'm pretty sure you can trade though
I'm still searching for more swamps to upgrade the padded armor set before I head out
I recall my friend giving me some stuff when I joined his server
yeah considering I just got 2 hit, if you see something starred, just run ๐ idek what to say about that
#valheim-help this one?
ye
Twitchers are some of the most annoyings mfs with their AI
Hi
is bear meat used for anything?
Not for any other food recipe but cooked bear meat. But it grants equal stats as minced meat sauce except 5 minutes less duration.
there's no bear jerky?
Nope, but just the cooked meat already has almost the same stats as minced meat sauce ๐
that's awesome, yea i also love the balanced foods too so was hopin maybe there are more jerkies since i last played
When have you last played? ๐ค
uhhhh before ashlands, i think shortly after mistlands came out
Heh, then i am happy to tell you we have a new type of foods that has balanced stats ๐
sweeeet
You just need o find a new trader ๐
my friend and i haven't played in a while, and we just started a new world with a friend that's never played
goin slow and enjoying showing them stuff for the first time
Niiiice, dont spoil the new guy too much stuff and dont rush ๐
Great ๐
they like spoilers, oddly
but yea we haven't found the first trader yet
i'm tryin, man
it's always fun to see new players takes on ...any games really
she called greydwarves the slimy eyes creatures because she forgot the name for a sec
and i'd made a lil cooking station and then she saw it and said the teeth look great and now just needs eyes so now our cooking station is some creature named gretel
which i think it won't let me post here but i can send in the screenshots channel
just came back for new update and was wondering where can i find bear and vile?
Bears spawn any time in black forests, viles spawn in plains at night
Thanks!
Hi guys, is somebody playing right now? I want to play for a while today
just saw 3 leviathans in one spot. i dunno if thats rare or what but it was cool
Not really - happens every now and again
hello
Look no further than https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 ๐
hey i was just wondering, i just went through 2 different burial chambers and didnt find a single surtling core in either. did they change how you get it?
Nope, but it's always possible the SNG (Sadistic Number Generator) strikes again.
My favourite way to kill bosses is like this. Fires, balls, more fires.
No not really, I can't stand when YouTubers say Leviathan are ultra rare... Kind of like the ship wrecks too. They're everywhere.
My entire moder mountain is in the center of mistlands and now I have to find another moder spawn lol
Or run quickly ๐
I've opted to make a "mistlands future camp" and think about it later :P
How the hell do I find an infested mine, I've been searching everywhere
Anyone else having huge sound clipping issues in ashlands when you're near the coast?
Look for the Dvergr Towers where you find lots of Seekers near / on top of it.
Those quite often have an staircase leading down, which ends in an infested mine.
Another option is to look for staircases near cliffs where you find lots of seekers roaming nearby.
They often have a single working Dvergr Wisplantern and a broken one standing next to the lowest point of the staircase.
In worst case, you can upload your seed - or the map using two files - on the Valheim World Generator site and select the option to show the location of infested mines.
Seed works for new worlds, for older worlds uploading the mapfiles is better.
wondering if i should move my base off the edge to the dark forest and about what size should i build to fit everything.
Thank you, can they spawn in the dvergr towers that have dvergr in them?
You can build some of the additions to crafting stations under the floors, behind walls or on 1x1m floor pieces attached to the walls, so space doesn't have to be an issue.
However, given that each biome gives a workstation and / or additions to other ones it might be a good idea to keep enough space available.
I personally prefer to use a basement, with the kiln, smelter and blast furnace located under the hearth as that would leave me with a single spot as chimney.
But having those outside your main building in separate crafting buildings works too.
There's no limit to what and how to build in Valheim, other than your imagination.
Nope. These are the locations where you can find something to deal with the sap.
The infested ones are clearly free of Dvergr.
ok, thanks, i am trying a solo playthrough just taking my time
Oh is it good idea to set up portal at each boss fight? im about ready for the second boss, i got some fire arrows ready about 140 should be enough i suppose
It's one of the best ideas, actually.
If you happen to be killed by a boss you got easier access to your items as when you need to sail / run to your corpse again.
Just make sure you're placing it out of reach of there the fight will be.
However......
The location of the Elder (2nd boss) can often be used as a portal hub when you're able to mine out the area under the altar.
If you're able to do so, I advise to do it, as it would make it a lot easier to travel all over the world later.
Plus it provides you a shelter during the fight as the "roof" is indestructible while the fire you sac the items in even gives you a (very small) rested bonus.
Hot damn, 4 fortresses assaulted so far and only 8 gems :/
Average by this point, you'd expect about 14
I mean, 2 or 3 per fortress is normal.
bruhh why are bears so rare ๐ญ
I ran into a few already in the dark forest area and they are tanky to take down. The 1 star was really bad lol i made a tunic and the rest troll
im in late game and i cant find ANY
i run into one or two bears everytime i go into black forest
i see more bears than trolls
its the other way around for me
It's the rule of "The more you start looking for it, the harder it's to be found."
-goes to look for bears
-finds troll immediately
-kills troll
-finds 1star troll right after
what is this biome?
oh a bear finally
but no trophy...
anotha one
Have you found Haldor yet?
i could go to the ashlands.
OMG A TROPHY
speaking of.. why are there no bear raids?
oh i forgot we can make bear rugs from trophies?
i need to craft a few and see if they look good
Hard to say, I'm guessing they decided against it, or it just hasn't been implemented yet.
3 - 4 is more normal, at least if I use the numbers on the wiki.
I ran calculations on it before, average number of gemstones per server (20 fortresses) is 71, which means you expect 3 - 4 per fortress.
Getting 2 for each of the first 4 fortresses is slightly on the unlucky side.
Go fly around a seed and check fortresses. 4 is on the higher side.
I'm just going by the %'s the wiki tells me
The Wiki also says bear trophies are a 10% drop rate.
3 - 4 was kinda what I got the first 2 times I ran through this game
As a solo player is yagluth meant to be a bit difficult?
I died like 5 times yesterday lol
He's difficult when you don't know what to expect, but once you work out his telegraphs he's a piece of cake, just requires patience to kill
Just bring fire res wine, health pots and frostner and he turns into a joke
Silver sword if you want to make him even more of a joke
I would say joke is a bit of am exaggeration because he still does a fair bit of other damage types and you can't just stand in the fire willy nilly even with fire res pot
But fire resistance and spirit damage are both silver bullets that make him a lot easier
Fought him with a crystal battleaxe and he was still stupid easy, and that thing hinders movement more than anything lol
It's just a health pot and fire res cycle boss really
He's no Fader for sure
Should ask, Fader receive any changes since the beta client version?
Been seeing a lot of mentions about ashlands itself being nerfed to shit since then, didn't see anything about the boss
I don't think Faders received any changes, I could be missing something.
Fissure is still an insta death if you don't respect it
Good, good, nice to have it keep its difficulty
The ashlands are NOT fun
True that, it was more fun during the beta client version
Jumping off the boat straight into a 10 round wave defense
I personally disagree with that lol
Hell yeah
I kinda wish difficulty modifiers did things like very hard is pre nerf spawns, rather than just buffing enemy health and damage numbers
Among other things of course.
Put it this way, Ashlands for me felt like too much of a departure from the rest of the game pre-nerf. Like i think it would be fine if the games difficulty curve better prepared players for it
are those tar monsters weak to something?
need to go farm up some more tar for darkwood
Blunt, spirit
I'm currently dithering between assaulting more fortresses, fighting Fader or expanding my mistybase into the adjacent plains biome
also are poison arrows really good against some specific enemies? i've got box full of them from sunken crypts and never really used them
Poison damage kinda sucks unfortunately
I always run heavy armour is that wrong?
Not necessarily, have you tried running other armor types to see how they feel?
If you just prefer the bulk the heavy armor gives you stick with it
Haven't tried
Though I would suggest that early in the game at least the alt sets outclass the heavy armor considerably
Just got to the mistlands so there is new stuff
To give you an idea: rank 2 troll armor is giving the same amount of armor as rank 1 bronze, while not slowing you down and needing considerably less gathering/processing power. Depends how you feel about killing trolls xP
Not at all.
I too always run heavy.
What happens if you do those lost item quests that Hildr has, does it unlock clothing items?
it's a trap.
Yes
Awesome
The smoldering tomb chest is worth turning in because the clothing it unlocks has a farming set bonus
And it actively improves the yields you get from harvesting
The other 2... eh, not so much, it's mostly cosmetic stuff
The ashlands weapons look so good but I know it will be a struggle when I get there
I just checked 11 fortresses. 1/0/1/2/0/2/2/0//0/2/1 is the gems count.
Cosmetic vendor sells cosmetics? Noooooo. ๐
Ofc xP.
But as you well know, we are privy to information he probably isn't
Thats 1 per Fortress on average. NOT 4!
Numbers on the wiki are wrong or the rng isn't working as intended then
Which tbf its probably the latter
I can post screenshots aswell. Wiki's aren't even close to right for 90% of games.
Fair enough
Got lots of flametal though.
Just going off the limited information the Internet actually provides on it
The problem with Wiki's is anyone can update the information...
yooooo
You did very well with 8 gems from 4 forts.
Well unless I look at the games code and see exactly how the rng works
I won't get an accurate calculation then
Like I said earlier, the wiki also states that bear trophies are a 10% drop. That's factually incorrect.
Idk, I never even had to check that one lol
I got the trophy on my second bear
Sounds like I'm just lucky
This save the only trophy I've desperately wanted which was a struggle to get was the cultist trophy
I've lucked into a warlock trophy really early in the ashlands, THAT one is normally pretty annoying to get
Oh right, I had to kill lots of Asksvins to get the galdr table upgrade as well. So make that 2
I went to one of my older worlds some time ago and got 3 bears, 2 dropped trophies.
The thing with those drop rates is people are rarely going to report when they get one early, and are more likely to talk about it when they're unlucky
So part of me wonders if it is actually working as intended and we're just seeing a more vocal unlucky bunch
I was definitely lucky to get it on my 2nd bear though.
Dunno how many bears I have killed by now, but have almost four stacks of skins. Two trophies wall mounted, one rug, one went into the armour and one into a trinket, and three in storage. Feels like 10% is pretty close to the average. First one felt like forever but still came at bear #15 iirc. Not that bad.
Is there a server I could join?
Oh wow, I just got "Stirred the Cauldron" and to my knowledge I'm no where near anything that would cause raids to spawn
40 metres, maybe I'm just barely on the edge. Wow, didn't know that could happen so far away
What trinkets do you recommend for mistlands?
It really depends on your playstyle and what weapons you're using
Bronze remains the top trinket for the majority of the game.
Stamina regen is always a safe bet yeah
Iron brooch is another solid trinket.
There is a problem with the mistlands where seekers resist all physical damage types so you're getting less value out of the damage buffing trinkets
And stamina regen is itself both a damage trinket and also a safety trinket in one
Anyone want to play Valheim in my world? I feel lonely.
Someone in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 might.
Perhaps ask in there?
i whish i could but there some homework to do :/
5th fortress has 4 gems in it (so far, need to check the inside chest)
3 Iolites.
Would be great if I was a melee build, but alas
๐
petition to make dundr cost iolites plz
So that even less people use it?
Well I mean, lightning weapon, lightning gem, just kinda makes sense doesn't it?
Nope.
petition to make trollstav useful
One of the best staves isn't useful??
staff of the wild is better
dead raiser is mostly better
1 staff being better makes it useless? lmao
yeah but like reduce the eitr cost or smthn
I mean it would make more sense for it to use an iolite than a bloodstone, iolites are really low.
Mage gem economy is 2 staves using bloodstone, a trinket option using bloodstone, and one stave using jade
Take a minute to fully formulate your opinion and what you're asking for, then retype out your position instead of just "make it useful, no wait I mean, no wait I mean..."
We'll be here ๐
๐
It does logically make sense to give the electric weapon the electric gem as a cost, even if it would make it "worse" because iolites are really good for other weapons
What I'm hearing is "Magic makes bloodstones massively more useful than other weapon types do." ๐
reduce the eitr cost of the trollstav so less eitr food heavy builds can use it and so it gets buffed because it's not that good seeing as you have to fight it after if it dies, and staff of the wild can deal more dmg
Counter-question: Are you not running 2 EITR foods at a baseline anyway?
Single player experience as a mage is running into a fortress, getting iolites and not getting new tools to play with using them.
Bloodstones are still generally in demand anyway due to things like the gem cutter
Let's not buff mage lol
well I personally do but the people I play with use 1 of each food type cuz they dont like getting killed 24/7
If you want to shoot more eat more mage food
Just gem cutter and then all the rest go to mage items because red weapons are largely inferior to blue and green.
Also trollstav is literally fine as it is
You don't need health food if you have staff of protection
Scale issue ๐คทโโ๏ธ (for them, not you)
I just think the dundr should use iolites for thematic reasons more so than any balance
ig it's just because if you don't know how to play mage well its eh (unless you have staff of the wild)
People get caught up in the realism of things like limited inventory space and Carry capacity, but then don't think it matters for things like what a weapon is made out of.
So what I am getting from this is that trollstav doesn't need anything? People just need to understand how to play mage better?
I thought green also made things not be able to attack you but then an immobilised askivin jumped over a lava pit and killed me
Green is for bows.
not making the mistake again
Lightning is for axes ":D
the realism is that you should have 5 inventory slots
Ling Axes are the most aura-farming thing they have added to the game tbh.
that's true
zap zap bang zap bang aoe bang zap
Ling Slayer does work too though.
Eh, slow slashes
No MtP.
I'd prefer to do like, sword and board with lightning gem than slayer
Ling Spear though ๐ฅต
Lightning spear is great yes
I can't wait for Ashlands. I'm not very far on this playthrough.
What about it, Iโve never been a spear guy
Fastest attspd in the game means more ling procs.
Spear skill levels up really fast, fast attack speed with lightning gem
I've killed Ek, but I'm almost done farming all my iron :P. Chairs work great. Skipping Elder and Bonemass until I kill Moder.
The only drawback is pierce damage is crap vs bosses
*Some bosses.
Right but we're talking lightning gem
Queen and Fader are both pierce resistant
Because bows exist everything else with pierce damage kinda gets a shaft
maces are the best weapon imo
Best is subjecthive.
Maces you have to always be in melee range... Bows you can chill up above your target. Magic is super cool too, but My favourite has always been swords'. Heavy stab attack is so good.
Once you cross iron, maces have too much knockback for follow-up hits. Making it take longer to kill things.
Meanwhile my sword sticks ya 3-4 times before you stagger back to me ๐
Does harpoon negate knockback?
Like if your friend harpoons a mob and you attack?
Early in the game Maces are king, but they really struggle to keep up with slashing damage weapons later in the game I found
iirc you can leave it attached and switch weapons.
Mistwalker and the Berserkir axes are both so good
My two favs
Time to test?
And Dyrnwyn might be alright in the deep north
I would but I am on my way to work ๐
Right now as an actual weapon it feels kinda meh for the effort you go through to get it, just looks cool as hell
I can go look for a Levi quick. I just got my Karve haha.
Gives me a side mission for the morning. (Hope no one knows and spoils the results)
Let me know! ๐ค
Booting up now
I've definitely swapped weapons with a harpoon attached, never tried it on a leviathan but it worked when I was trying to move my lox about.
I just want an enchanted spear that auto-returns ๐ญ
That's called a Boomerang.
I feel like a spear you craft using a thunderstone and refined eitr (amongst other resources) could be cool for that
Like a lightning spear that fizzles and comes back
Boomirgn* if we try to make it Norse ๐
I think Boomr-ang might be an option as well.
Boomer Ang is just the sequel to Last Airbender ๐
So, how about Boomir-Angr?
Hi there fellow vikings! Is there any option to reset biome name and sound when entering new biome? Its kinda weird but i like this pop up when im crossing to the new land never discovered before like plains or ocean. Sadly it happens to me when i was trying to reach bonemass spawn (there was a frikkin 1x1 chunk of plains in the middle of ocean) and im furious now. I like this popping out when im entering exact order of the biomes black forest>swamp>mountaints etc.
Klossen and Storm Star are both great maces. ๐ค
i was wondering is there any ukrainian valheim players who would want to tag along?
You could search or post in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510. ๐
once you start attacking it releases the harpoon, but you can stay attached indefinitely if its just friends/allies attacking
harpoon + Wild is extremely meta rn for anything that can survive more than a couple thwacks
I've got 6 gems in fortress no.5. That's great!
... still no bloodstones
Only I can somehow manage to be unlucky in a lucky way
4 iolites though.
no ashlands polearm :(
I always forget how overpriced and greedy this game is.
You better ask that at the Steam forum.
The Devs here have no influence about how much off a game will be. And most likely not or very little influence if a game will be on sale or not.
Especially when currency ratio is 1:3 and you have to get it for 2 other people ๐
Oh thx but do you have any idea? From previous years?
For example as far as i know last at winter sale game was 50% off
People are forcing you to buy them the game?
Noot really it's other way around I really wanna get my boys on this game
So it's more choosing to than have to.
One of em is my brother
Yep but to be fair even jf i bought it flr myself its relatively expensive
Transfers to around 60 of my currency and keep in mind my salary is 4/ hour
๐
So I only got 26/30 chitin from the Levi ๐
At least bigger sales like Winter sale has included 50% off from Valheim in past.
im trying to open the fortress with a battering ram
but its not working
ive done it like 30 times atleast
quick question can you place on an item stand a dvrger lantern?
being in the mountains doesnt give me freezing status. I just came there so dont have any armor to prevent that and also i didnt choke resist potion. Wtf is going on? xD
any mods?
Which side you trying? You need to face towards what you want to hit.
wdym
im hitting the door with the front of the battle ram
few, but these are mods like for configurable smelters, fetilizer for crops and extra slots
nothing really to messing with player status lol
Which side faces the door, the one you're in or the one where you put fuel in?
Hard to say mods can do weird stuff, what's your specific load out? (Armor, potions)
we need fuel in it?
Yes. Wood or ashwood.
i didnt even realise
Don't remember if fine or core can used too but ash and normal woods at least.
You can get ashwood easily by breaking the banners next to the door.
Usually 1 wood is enough for breaking the door.
thank you it worked now
Note: I find it much better to break a wall, not the door.
The wall spikes that hang down will damage any charred trying to come through the hole you made. So it is a very good chokepoint.
iron armor, iron tools, basic pots for healing, stamina
i will try to open the game without mods maybe
yea do that
If the issue persists I'll do some testing myself and find whats up, can also validate game files too
i got iolite now i can get the chain lightning
Keep in mind there's often a small snowy patch of land at the border of the mountains and meadows / black forest that may give the impression you're in the mountains, but actually aren't.
Make you some axes!
nah, im in the actual mountains, far far above normal level. Thats why im curious whats going on
Sword is good choice too.
Dual wielding axes is just a whole vibe.
But if you want pokey sword that is valid too.
Personally if I make a sword it is Slayer.
what is slayer
Two handed.
2h sword.
is it good enough to sacrifice my shield
Good is a point of view, Anakin.
Blocking sheet is pinned in this channel if you need to see the exact things the Slayer can/cannot block.
whatgs the recipe for it i dont think i have it unlocked
2h weapons are bit riskier choice due to not able to have shield, but you can usually parry almost any non star mob on same tier.
Have you beaten big rolly fella? One of their drop is required for base Slayer.
no i havent
my friend has he has it unlocked
When you pick the drop (||sinew||) you'll get it.
ok i unlocked it my friend gave me sinew
and i can add a gem to it right
i think ima go with nidhogg and then a tower shield
Once you craft any of the Ashlands weapons it will unlock any gem variants for that weapon you have found so far.
So if you craft Nidhรถgg you'll unlock the gem variants for Nidhรถgg.
ohhh ok
Upgrading non-enchanted weapons is a waste of materials though.
You actually use the base weapon as "ingredient" to craft the gem variant of that weapon.
i crafted nidhogg the thundering
Nidhog the thundering was my weapon of choice first playthrough
now i just need the rest of my armor and a shield
its so annoying cuz i keep dying so my stuff is low level
Ask armor ftw.
how do i get my attributes to get up ๐
Game isn't balanced around skill levels, you good.
They are literally just free stats.
ohh ok
We do have training dummies now though for weapon leveling.
yeah i have one of those
Block leveling is still just summoning multiple Elders.
Bonemass is also excellent for leveling any non-blunt weapon.
its there any ashland weapon i should replace demolisher for tho
Nope.
were there any changes to xp gain in CTA? (i.e, is xp still based on number of hits rather than damage dealt)
Still the same ๐
damn, that sucks. any changes to sneaking/detection?
Nope
re: training dummies - in games with more players, you frequently find yourself waiting on others to go on adventures to the training dummies are a nice way to kill time and you get skill as a side effect.
I rocked Frostner a lot in Ashlands - the charred are susceptible to blunt and spirit damage and the frost effect helped slow down their moves so othey telegraph even more
what unlocks that
Mountains stuff?
I don't remember everything you have to have - silver.
you needed something from vendor to craft frostner
Silver, ancient bark, freeze glands, ymir flesh.
the flametal mace does more damage
idk if its better tahn demolisher tho
i need a good loadout for the final boss
I mean, it's not the biggest damage number weapon as it's 3 tiers below compared to Ashlands weapons, but as starting weapon in Ashlands it still perform quite well due to the slow effect of frost damage and some extra spirit damage.
I've played valheim for so long but never made it past the 4th boss. What tips do yall have/what am I missing?
did you eat barley wine mead?
or was that 5th boss
That is unlocked in next biome.
Why didn't you make it further? Lack of direction, too hard enemies, frustration with logistics or... ๐ I imagine tips will depend on what you're struggling with
idk why but i never count eikthyr as boss in my mind
He still is considered as one, think it as tutorial boss.
eikthyr was cool
I get stuck on an exploration streak quite often, just viewing the next areas. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed and start over.
Having both ranged and melee weapons is good idea, as the boss can fly but also lands occasionally.
Best foods, upgraded equipment, rested buff, hp/stamina/utility meads recommended.
should i get dyrnwrym or wahtever
im so sad that we got fkd over on our way to explore our queen continent uuugh, that mountain biome in the middle of the ocean ticking us down into random ashland biome with a bonemaw slaying us all and the longship x) (we ended reloading a save 2 hours earlier...)
If you want. It's quite fun sidequest.
๐
Mountain stuff and something from Haldor will unlock frostner
is it better than the nidhogg thunder sword
cause it seems like a long quest
I donโt think it out performs in the Ashlands but assuming it will in deep north
so it would be a good investment
At current state, not that much. It has +10 added slash compared to Nidhรถgg and 10 fire, like Nidhรถgg variants have 10 lightning/poison. It looks fire tho.
Although, it might get some changes when Deep North is released, who knows.
Brutal hugs
its so funny the first time we barely stumble into ashlands, get welcomed by a bonemaw while boat is under 50% xd
Quest sword may as well be a Hildr reward with how cosmetic-only it is.
aw
Bonemaws make an excellent HP food bump.
you can put gems into flametal mace right

Yeah I wanted that meat but unfortunately after 2 hours of sailing we all died along with the boat x)
none of you had bows?
Nuuuuuu.
boat was like 35% we didnt have time to down it
we had been sailing for like 2 hours or so, should have repaired on a coast tho
All Flametal made melee and ranged weapons have their gem variants.
Could also put a workbench on a spire and repair mid trip.
wwwww
i feel like the jade would be good for mace
Those rocky spires on the way into the ashlands can fit a workbench, so all you needed to do, assuming you had some wood, was stop at one, repair, and start again
oh there were noone in sight
None? That's very strange
we were in the middle of the ocean with a weird buggy "ashlands and mountain biome" in the middle of the ocean
I didnt see any spires/burning ashlands kinda thing
That's very unusual lol
we had to sail in the mountain ocean for like 2minutes almost ticking down to 0 into that ashland+bonemaw ocean haha
It is good choice. I also like the jade axes personally. ๐
Green is for bows ๐
I've been farming a bunch of lightning weapons since iolites have been the most abundant gem on my current save
They're mostly decoration unfortunately, though I am actively using the berserkir axes as a replacement to my bm axe
They fast.
Axes need to be blue, just... you're doing yourself a disservice if you make them anything besides blue.
the iolite?
Yes.
what does the lightning effect do also
Procs aoe chain lightning across multiple enemies.
ohhh
Also deals base lightning damage to primary target, which helps you stagger them faster.
It's a chance per hit, so attacks with rapid fire hits proc it more often.
The chain lightning effect is busted
Like, actually busted
If you have already Nidhรถgg the Thunder you can see the effects for them.
true
Alternate attack on axes is a forward jump that can be used both to close distance and dodge/create distance.
whats klossen
Mace.
how do i get it
Flametal mace upgrade
It's the jade mace.
ohhhhhh
Green is for bows ๐
smart
Lightning bow goes brrr.
Red is also for bows if you run the vomiting sniper build ๐
Good is a point of view, Anakin.
I've got a nice decoration next to my bed, thundering slayer and the jade ashfang.
In the rare event of a death I take those and my flametal armor and retrieve my gear
Do you have fun using it?
its annoying to reload
Odd way to answer a yes/no question ๐ญ
odd question to ask
Have you tried Arbalest?
thats what i use
No, very valid question to ask.
I think crossbows make a lot more sense to use if your regular bow skill is low, but that's just me
@stuck lake if you have fun using it = it is good.
i wish there was a flametal crossbow
Levelled skills use regular bow all day long
There is.
There is, the Ripper
It's the Ashlands crossbow
Either bows need an attspd nerf or, imo, how to fix the disparity -- make crossbow shoot through enemies, starting with 0 and +1 penetration per 20 skill points.
High skill level bows in general need a nerf, and then also remove the pierce resistance effect from Queen and Fader.
Crossbows are bursty but slow, they have a niche
ima get all flametal stuff and kill everything
Don't touch resistances ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I'm talking about the comparison of both at 100 skill. Bows are just objectively superior. Hence the 2 paths I suggested.
You probably need to kill bonemaw for its drops for the Ripper.
Wasn't the justification for bosses being pierce resistant precisely because high level bows are just that op?
I don't see why other pierce weapons should have to suffer just cause bows are nuts
Not all bosses are ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Also bows by their nature are OP, that is why we invented them IRL ๐
let me check wiki
The current 2 late game bosses have both been, and it seems extremely intentional and targeted
oh yeah i will need bonemaw
So unless they create a new damage type specifically called "bow/arrow damage", spears/atgeirs are going to get shafted (PUN).
let me make a list of all the stuff i'll need
You need a hero!
Just hold out for your hero till the end of the niiiiiight. ๐ถ
Am I crazy or is Flametal armor an incredibly underwhelming upgrade
at least when going from Carapace to Flametal
Do those have to be mutually exclusive? ๐
Apologies but I'm still learning how to properly use that term lol
Don't understand what you mean
If they are mutually exclusive it means You Crazy or Armor Underwhelming.
If they are not, it means it's possible both are true ๐
They should, bows suck, takes too long to kill things with them, may as well give spears and atgeirs their needed glory
Same step up as padded --> carapace ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Mutually exclusive = only one can be true?
"Bows suck" is a molten lava temperature take tbh.
Viking drawing a bow string like it's made out of titanium so he takes a good 5 seconds to draw it fully
Bows are quite goated
Correct.
Are you at negative skill points or something? lol
Mind you it's very possible to level certiain stats afk or with little effort
Just a utility for killing flying rascals and running from combat
Update: I have obtained access to silver without beating bonemass ๐
Bows are in need of a nerf because as you level they turn into literal machine guns.
Absolutely 0 reason for me to even think of using a bow unless there's a flying mob or because of deer
Good for both of these scenarios yes but bows later on start having much more utility with the additional damage they do
Like a bow doing innate poison or spirit damage
Sounds more like a skill issue (and I mean that literally, the skill itself) rather than the weapon
If you don't see a reason for them, that is valid for you, individually.
It does not mean bows suck in a general capacity.
They do, but apparently their skill doesnt
They do for you, individually.
They do not in the general sense.
If that skill didn't do what you said it does, the weapon would be worthy of being dropped in the nearest puddle
False.
Especially in late game
I was really disappointed when going from my level 3 Carapace armor to level 1 Flametal full set only yieled like an additional 6 armor
Carapace Armor without cape is honestly my favorite look in the game.
It is the exact same as for all heavy armours ๐
And the innate "heat" resist is certainly useful in a way, I just wish it wasn't basically "You've probably finished getting most of the flametal you need, so now here's a buff for making flametal midlly easier to get! (not really)"
I felt like it mattered a bit more earlier on but maybe that was just because of me being earlier in progression and seeing it as a bigger step
Rather than just looking at the armor change
Yeah, the heat resist is seriously underwhelming
Possibly ๐
It kinda sucks just how much of this game is intensely underwhelming
Similar situation with elder's power
I've been really wanting to get into Enshrowded recently because of the skill tree system it has
"here's a power that helps with mining now that you've finished the copper grind" even though eikthyr and bonemass exist, and you find most of the iron in chests anyways
Least moder's power got something useful to it
Not to mention that later on (and just in general) you would prefer having combat assistance abilities when you're out mining
I liked elders power for flametal
You individually may have found more iron in chests, but that does not make it a generally true statement.
This last run I went through 27 crypts and only 2 of them had any iron in any chests.
๐
Elder's power just serves as that one power you use that one time you're removing the nearest forest
The game does not like you it seems
Game is fine, I still got nearly 2k iron.
cool story bro
We are not related.
God I hope not
And yet you spoke as though we are... ๐ค
the mistland is the WORST biome ever
Meadows is terrible, yes ๐
no u
๐
for real tho, everything is so complicated
walking is complicated, seeing is complicated, building anything is complicated
<insert Avril Lavigne gif here>
now I need 5 more cores, 10 probably I dont know
Oh in the beginning I just build forge and if I need table I destroy forge. Swapping what the cores are used for is simpler than trying to find more crypts ๐
Why do you think so many people drop the game when they come to it lol
No wonder that little mod that boosts your wisplight is so popular
I was not aware peopel dropped it at the mistland
Some do. I would not class it as "many."
4 different people I've played with had given up after trying it
Oh also everything needs black metal there, and of course its freaking far from everywhere and nothing drops black metal there
Even I detest the biome, horrible design
@shy marlin people are hating on perfection again... ๐
Visually cool, but gameplay's just a hinderance
Reminds me of the plains using mostly iron as well lol
at least the plains tends to neighbour swamps
and the plains isnt an absolute chore to walk 5 meters
Bzzzzzzzzzz~
They tend to neighbour mistlands a lot too in my experience if you go further out
Still doesn't justify it to me though
Making me go back to raid crypts which are just a chore that don't pose any threat
No get that. I made a small base in the mistland and about 50 meters away theres a small patch of plains. Its so annoying to get there that I just dont
and then a one star bug spawns that throws you five miles away
yeet
Mistlands is probably my favorite biome
I do not believe you at all
I cannot fathom anyone can like this biome other than trying to be contrarian
My first time around I used to chase hares out into the plains so I could easily kill them without 85 degree terrain and mist clouding everything further than 10 steps from you
You do you, I know I'm not the only one that likes it
That is the same as someone else saying "I cannot fathom anyone can dislike this biome other than trying to be in the loud group" ๐คทโโ๏ธ
no because the mistland is a legitimate horrible place
In your opinion ๐
Only thing that stuck with me as a really cool addition in mistlands were the dvergr
I hate trekking through it even with the feather cape and flametal armor
Glad that carried over to ashlands, hope it does to deep north
also I dont know why but I feel like monsters hits waaaaay harder in mistland, comparatively to when one's reaches any other biomes
Theres one enemy in the ashland that really scares me. In the mistland, everything does.
Tick's gonna get you while you sleep
oh yeah, ticks. does 5 damage, except if its one star then it does 50% more, which is something like 40 damage per seconds
Starred ticks are probably the scariest enemies in mistlands
no, im scared more of starred reapers
Except aggravated starred dvergr mages
Seekers hit hard, but they are usually quite easy to keep at a distance
I'm more scared of fortunately no starred fall damage
I remember one was at some dungeon entrance, it would instakill anyone that got inside
Fall damage does a maximum of 100 damage. So at least its predictable.
Wtf was IronGate cooking when they half baked the Black Forge ๐
You need Black Forge upgrades that seemingly don't exist to upgrade Flametal tier items
Yes, you cant currently fully upgrade ashlands gear, same as it was in mistlands
Not a big fan of that personally
Kinda just adding to the quickly increasing list of frustrations I'm having with Valheim
damn thats crazy, anyways, how would i go about making a maypole
Maypole, is that the thing used for that one holiday?
I cant say i am fan of it, but i also cant say it bothers me, you can still fight just fine using not fully upgraded equipment, and keep in mind that all biomes are balanced to be doable with lvl1 gear ๐
Summer something I thought?
You cant outside of using commands right now ๐
also this gripe is a little less bad but it still bothers the hell out of me, I still think the enemy AI in this game is egregiously bad with certain ones
Like the greyling and twitcher AI
You attack them once and they run for a full mile away from you and never stop
Twitchers indeed sometimes just go off somewhere, greylings are not so bad imo
Greylings are definitely less of an issue for a few reasons, but I think they got the Twitcher AI from somewhere
While I like the Mistlands, I do not see myself ever liking the Ashlands. Its just pure ugly.
I think it accomplishes the intended hell-like feel quite well ๐
But you dont have to necessarily like it ofcourse
I love me and my friend specifically going to sleep to hopefully avoid a crazy number of spawns, then immediately finding ourselves swarmed by like a dozen Ashlands enemies at once
Also I wish being a tank felt like more of an actual class / playstyle
I'm trying to do big thunky armor and big thunky sword
We have no taunt, so tank won't ever really feel like tank.
You have to be so methodical at wiping out the spawners just to kind of make things calm down in Ashlands.
I mean that doesn't even do anything
The natural spawn numbers are literally worse than spawners
Me and my friend get Morgens spawning directly outside of our teleporter decently often, along with however many other enemies
You will reverse this statement when you run into the elite spawners that pump out only starred enemies ๐
Cutting down the spawners definitely helps a bit.
Oh I mean yeah it does help
The thing is enemies hear you even from pretty far away if you get into a fight
It just doesn't make the Ashlands feel even remotely reasonable lol
I notice that after some time cutting spawners down the ashlands does start to quiet down a bit
It just takes a while
put crafting benches down around base w torcches
There's always going to be enemies but it's definitely less
spawns drop a lot
Oh, it does, but not by nearly enough in my opinion. Ashlands makes any other biome seem calm and quiet in comparison. Even after destroying the 6 spawners in the area. Even that isn't what bugs me the most. The place is just ugly, Endless ugly.
That is kinda the point to be fair. The reason why we get a Stone portal to transport metals around is because we literally don't want to stay any longer than we have to
I also have portals much less spread out and protected by walls in Ashlands to reduce the distance and aggravation of any death runs
Asksvins lay eggs. You tame them on site, then claim the reward back home
Vineberries grow outside the biome too
The whole design screams "this place isn't welcoming. Get the stuff and get out"
Another thing irritating me is on our last play through. Nice big island. No fortess'. Only one flametal sinking pillar. Tons of everything else, though. So we will have to get back on that big clunky tank of a boat, and find another island to even get enough Flametal to make a decent amount of the new gear, let alone find stones.
That's just rng being a pain unfortunately
The first thing I ever found In the ashlands was Faders boss altar lol. There was nothing else on that island
I get that. Doesn't make it any less irritating, though.
Kinda felt like a waste of time in the moment
I think another two very deep rooted issues I've noticed is that I really hate how basically every action takes stamina, literally almost everything you do. Second is that there are so many items that get used for a few very specific things and will just take up your space endlessly
I wish there was an item filter for what can autopickup and what can't
Like an item discovery menu that shows every unlocked log and lets you select from it what can be picked up or spawned in general
Yeah, whenever people talk about how the inventory space limitations are the way they are to promote decision making I can't help but think that it was definitely the case... before the game added several updates
That is a horrendous reason if that is the case
Which added a considerable amount of inventory creep, whether that be via meads or just more raw stuff dropping
To be clear I'm agreeing with you here the raw amount of backtracking to drop materials you have to do in the biome is a pain
My friend and I installed an armor slot mod that gives you auto equipping armor slots, a utility and trinket slot, and 3 quick item slots that I use for potions
And even then we still struggle hard with space
It was absolutely bad befor the mods
And yes an autopickup filter would help a lot
I don't need to be picking up prostitute powder, sulphur, charred bones, volture meat - all stuff I don't care about
I don't seem to have the issues with inventory others have, but I'd still like a filter to pick up only what I need at the time, rather than all or nothing.
and autosort loot to boxes
That would be a serious time saver.
I'll put it this way.
At times in the black forest and the swamp I'll have to fight a bunchof greydwarves/draugr. At least they drop things I care about
Charred bones are so blegh
I get that you need them for arrows but the raw amount you get is silly
I also wish boss drops had any relevance after you fight them the first time
I need those arrows, though. So I am fine with the bones.
Provided you already have the same item in the box we already have basically that ๐ค just hold E while opening the box
You fight bosses a single time then they are immediately no longer useful in any way
Give them some hidden / super rare drops or something
in terraria you press one button and it sorts everything from your inventory to nearby boxes all in neat order
I like to fight the bosses a second time for my own personal trophy room
They are a boss, not a mob, so I don't expect fighting them more than once to be important. I just like having their trophies on my walls too. Plus, with like Moder, having more of her tears can be useful.
That is unironically the only use for fighting them again though
Except for the odd instance you need to get more tears from Moder
Seems too easy to me really, but sure, that is neat. I still like that you actually have to know where your stuff is.
Moder and Queen if you like having artisan tables in multiple bases and don't wanna keep dismantling them.
Queen also doubles up as a royal jelly farm with the seeker broods she spawns
Apart from decoration, why would you need more than 5 tables?
i'm fine with current inventory space but there is a reason every other game uses dedicated armor slots
not sure why we have both VERY limited inventory and KG limit
just having KG limit would be enough
That's what I'm wondering lol
i mean weight limit for my american friends
True but you can get quite a lot from infested mines which works quite well
Servers with 10 people who each want their own bases. I've been on them.
I think this doesn't change the answer though. It's the same exact thing for each person, just multiplied.
To be fair I found an infested mine that has both lots of tick respawns and 45 royal jelly when the nodes respawn, I just use that xP
Well, from your message it seems that you think there is some merit in fighting Moder again for more tears, i am asking what those would be for ๐
If I wanna just farm cheap mage food like stuffed mushrooms and seeker asspics
No I meant that was "If for whatever reason someone wants more tears" because there is no real reason for you to fight Moder again for tears
You get enough in the first place that it's an unneccessary thing
Yeah, several of my towers typically have a mine in their basement for similar reasons.
I don't have that, but then again I chose to build my base right next to 8 (!!!) Roots
All the sap I could ever want, right at my finger tips lol
Also I am so frustrated with the fact that my Scourging Slayer can't be upgraded even a single time right now and will break increadibly fast if I'm fighting the giant hordes that show up in the Ashlands
The towers are not my bases, just resource locactions that are well protected. So mini bases, at best. No cooking, no sleeping, just resource gathering.
Enchanted weapons can currently be upgraded up to lvl2 ๐
-# Tho i assume you mean "can't be upgraded even a single time right now" as in you dont have materials for it atm?
That's fair.
I decided to set up shop in a spot that was very close to 8 roots, and also very close to an adjacent plains
Basically I can farm just about everything here, except for royal jelly, but I have a portal to that mine I mentioned
Yeah, the other towers I choose have 2 to 4 roots near by. Only places I have found with 8 roots are long border areas. Towers with 2 to 4 root practically right out side their door are easier to find.
We have 4 upgrades on our Black Forge and don't have access to another, does it require some outdated material we skipped over when we skirted some progressions?
Check your artisan table
Only see springs there, whiich I've held before
4 upgrades (lvl5 Black forge) is currently the max
That should enable you to make lvl2 enchanted stuff
4 is all you get once you get into the Ashlands, there may be more in later stage Ashlands,
Ah, I'm that case you haven't found a certain ashlands gem
I have 4 upgrades on the ground in range of it
No no we've found all 3 types
You can get weapons to level 2 though
Yeah, and since without upgrades its lvl1 it should be lvl5 now ๐
Forge cooler, vice, Gem Cutter and the metal cutter, you got all those right?
Nevermind, I just needed to fix something because the building in this game is jank asf sometimes
Lol
Well, if you say so ๐
Yeah, you need to keep an eye on those glowing "chains" to make sure everything is connecting.
My cooler was on an a shelf above the black forge directly next to another upgrade that was literally slightly further from it, and for some reason the cooler wasn't in range
I don't think that's my fault.
Quality 2 still breaks reasonably fast either way.
I normally take 2 weapons, my ashlands tier op weapon and then my mistlands weapon, and I use the mistlands weapon in easy fights, breaking out the big guns for when it gets hairy
Without them connecting you are not able to place the upgrades, did you perhaps move the black forge at some point after placing the upgrades?
it helps that when I did melee build swords were my weapon of choice and Mistwalker is just kinda cracked anyway
No melee weapon is as OP as magic, so...
Ah it was my friend who moved it for a build, yeah that checks out now.
Cheatsword ๐
That is true yes, though those berserkir axes rip things to shreds VERY fast
I stick to melee, so I'm going to agree with that.
Just less safety
I really wish late game Etir armor had innate + Etir
I raise you cheat sledge ๐
I raise you cheat killall ๐
Not melee weapon, i win!
It doesn't really need it, eitr foods are statted with the lack of a base eitr in mind, and eitr is only required for attacks, not mobility
Dev commands are "broken" by default, so no surprise there. Now name a weapon actually in game that is as OP as any mage weapon.
And by late game you should be having 100% uptime on food anyway
You lose by putting "any" mage weapon because... dundyr.
Leave the log shooter alone ๐ญ
-# But true, it is very situational at best
I actually enjoy fighting with the Dundr but it's kinda weird
And just doesn't hold a candle to the other magic weapons
If it did chain lighting LIKE IT SHOULD it would be viable.
I've had some fun using dundr to knock back enemies into my vines for a one two punch.
... but likewise i could just kite them into my vines lol
Dundr still isn't as OP as... any mage staff I am aware of. Even the skeletons are more useful. But I have never done magic beyond Mistlands, so...
I think it's really shitty that this game gives you absolutely zero upgrades to your innate abilities. Like without your items you're capable of basically nothing, there's no skill points or anything like that. With + innate Etir I think it'd be a nice touch to not require food to use any of what could be your entire build.
Hi, anyone looking for a slave? kekekw
Gross.
I can work day and night for master ๐ฅบ
The skill points system upgrades your innate abilities, so that's just demonstrably not true
What skill point system?
You get skill levels for doing basically anything and get better at doing that thing?
Okay that
Food gives you those. The system i think you are suggesting would need a total rebuild of the game basically
That is entirely what I'm talking about lol
That doesn't feel like a good level reward at all lol
Then you're not paying much attention
Those levels make quite a big difference
You don't need them to play through the game for sure, but they help a lot
No no, I understand it helps with damage numbers a lot.
that's just not what I mean though
It's reducing stamina/eitr use when attacking and also doing more damage with those damage types, so you get a double whammy of hitt8ng harder and lasting longer.
That then compounds with the extra stats from food you're eating
I don't like that levels are something you could completely forget about and it would make zero difference. At the end of the day, items matter.
I will disagree that it makes "zero" difference.
Focusing just on the items - yes, they matter, yes there's no base eitr level. Mages really don't need it.
They're the dominant build without it
I just hate that everything is impermanent, constantly getting replaced and never feeling like a constant addition to your build, even as just a small unlockable skill or something on the side.
That impermanence is also flexibility to adapt your playstyle and pivot freely
It's not without it's upsides
I don't like that
I legitimately hate that aspect, that's a huge thing for me.
There is no such thing as commitment to a build.
I mean, there is, skill levels provide an incentive to commit to a build
You should be able to change build with a bit of effort outside of just getting the gear, for sure. I think you should be forced to somehow lock yourself in a bit though.
I personally would really hate that
And that is even when i use the one same build since 2021 basically
Valheim does quite a few things differently from other games.
Do I think all of those things land? No, definitely not. But the food, skill and gear system (ignoring inventory space, as that's a separate discussion) is one of the things it lands really well imo
Again skill level buffs have compounding effects with your food - it is a noticeable drop in efficiency when you try different weapons you've barely used before. Magic is an outlier just because it's op
I'd say skill levels in magic have a more noticeable impact than in most other skills, especially blood magic
Considering the base game only gives two builds any kind of specialized feel, being archer and mage, and even then it is entirely based on just your items and the attached skill leve, I think it's not a bad idea.
They do, but the point is thag because magic is op anyway pivoting to it you don't really feel a setback in any way
But you're correct difference between level 1 and level 50 magic is enormous
Like for instance, it'd be cool as all fuck if there was a parry based damage build
Where your weapon has more difficult parry timing but you get additional damage or a faster swing into it
The biggest setback with magic is getting the build online to start with, since the refined eitr costs are quite high
That could be a later game armor set or some kind of specialized skill unlock
Bit actually fighting with it? Yeah, it's great
Assuming you either have someone else to take aggro or some skelets, for sure.
Otherwise you are quite squishy, which is unfortunately kinda universal in the Ashlands.
Funny how this is technically available for fists/claws lol
Nah, in single player it's great regardless
Perhaps yeah but I don't think the game does a great job at advertising them tbh
Now dont take this the wrong way, but this really seems that you didnt actually try to use different playstyles much, there is quite a big difference in playstyle even by playing with different weapons and having all other gear the same. Or just switching one type of food for another will make you play differently. Saying that the only 2 playstyle that actually feel different are archer and mage is just wrong.
Especially since they were only recently added, weren't they?
You had the flesh rippers in the game for a while but they were literally the only fist type weapons unless you decided to go bare handed
Unexplored weapon type in general so as expected it's not really polished
For me it mostly feels the same. I've for the most part just tried shield + mace, Battleaxe, and then Krom / Slayer, and all of them just end up blending into eachother.
Nothing differentiates them besides chunkier damage on some of the much slower weapons.
The 2 handed swords feel extremely different to me tbh, you have to be patient and extremely deliberate with your attacks due to it being quite slow
But even then it take quite a while to level the skill to reach that damage
So classical 1-h + round shield and slower 2 handers, that really isnt much
So many styles and this guy says they all feel the same is crazy
Like sure its melee, so is one handed sword + shield
For me it was actually worse witht he battleaxes on how carefully you have to play, I think the swing / movement speed is actually just slower in general. The Krom felt like a nice alleviation of that, although still slow.
The battleaxe secondary is quick and has a high stagger rate to buy you time for your other strikes
Sword is just always kinda slow
I've used the Atgeir too, although that was a good weapon I didn't find it personally tempting.
The Battleaxe secondary is definitely a great attack, was super handy.
Atgeirs will have different playstyle than other 2 handers, spears and axes will differ from the mace noticably, swords will be mostly same but you dont have MTP. And then you can change armor types you use for all of them and even mismatch them. There is really a good number of posible playstyles
Atgeir is top tier ๐ฅ๐ฅ just a shame its not very good for uneven terrain
Okay I have a question
Oh it still is ๐
Especially after CtA
Definitely was very fun to use it, especially himminafl
Always have a mace for faster dps and uneven terrain fights tho โผ๏ธ
I always struggled with the jab when the enemy is below, did they change?
Oh they did nice
Yep, CtA update tweeked the uneven terrain comba so you actually hit stuff when its slightly above/below you
Between any of those melee builds, does the primary combat idea change much? I mean like, you're generally gonna go into combat with the idea of parrying / staggering then attacking and just doing that over and over. I want something that changes that, or at least alters is significantly.
Ya'll ever tried golf in valheim?
I saw plenty 2h swords with roll instead of parry
Okay I shuld've added rolling to that but you get the idea
I would 100% exclude roll if certain items changed how the roll worked significantly though
Same for parry
You ever play around with 2h maces?
Such as?
Sorry, which items specifically?
Knives want to go for stealth and sneak attacks,
Atgeir oftentimes isn't parrying but is using its secondary to stagger and zone enemies,
Maces can have higher knockback, which makes them worse for killing enemies but better for survival
Oh no I hadn't, mostly because they seemed more like a utility / crowd clearing option and I wasn't a huge fan of the way they seemed in most combat.
Not really a parry thing, sometimes used with roll but mostly just a slam into the ground and bruteforce weapon
Yes, with atgeir you spin to win, with tower shield you statically block and look for opportunity to attack, with buckler you parry than slash and avoid large groups at once, with light armor you manuver around enemies to not get swarmed and avoid attacks instead of blocking them, with heavy armor you can tank quite a few hits, etc...
Depending on what you are familiar with you can roll instead of blocking/parrying
Its sick as hell you should try them more
Just adding that since heavy armor reduces the damage you take, it also means you have an easier time parrying without breaking poise. Doesn't matter that much on standard valheim but on higher difficulties it matters
@gray sand
Where you need any extra help you can get if you want to go for parry and counterattack builds
?
Just adding that since heavy armor reduces the damage you take, it also means you have an easier time parrying without breaking poise
๐
Is that wrong?
That is true in like.... 0.0001% of all damage instances.
So effectively it is false.
I should change from heavy to light armor in AS finally
Ok
Im so done with carapace man
I'll get f'd I guess then
Food and shield matter when blocking.
Armor does not ๐
XD
Also saw your message on the mistlands haters ๐
Okay I have examples I want y'alls opinion on
I knew food mattered
๐ญ
They didnt mean it affects blocking, but that it lowers the dmg that goes through the block, meaning you dont stagger as easily, is that wrong? ๐ค
Attack Speed?
Can't wait to try this method in real life. 3 full course meals down the hatch and then off to fight a bear
we love valheim and its realism
Think with something like the Atgeir or a hypothetical Rapier. You get attacked, and these weapons specifically (or just one) would have a riposte that is specialized to that weapon. A unique animation and a unique effect or additional damage number that comes from it. Like the Atgeir, maybe it'll be more difficult to parry when using it, but you'll automatically throw out a much faster secondary attack when you do it. Or with a Rapier riposte, it would do more damage + possibly allow you to do a bit of a forward lunge with it.
The stagger you get from blocking doesn't care about your armor.
The additional stagger from what gets through the block is minimal since you... you know.. blocked.
So the only time it matters is when you would barely succeed in a block to the point the damage getting through could actually stagger you.
Another example could be with large clubs / greatswords, think a block attack. You hold block and swing, it'd do a sweeping attack for the enemie's legs and can knock humanoid enemies off their feet for greater stamina usage.
That could be something specific to certain weapon types or possibly even set bonuses
That's a bit closer of what I mean to specialized builds that feel more like their own thing
Speaking of greatswords, how much iron is the ashlands one upgraded to full
Ashlands one doesn't require iron
WHAT I THOUGHT IT DID THATS SICK
Unless you want mobs to T pose and drop down on their back I don't ever see the devs going through the effort to make a falling down animation for every mob lol
Okay that changes everything
Ashlands greatsword is just a lot of flametal, which is... you know, probably one of the nicest metals to farm
Good to hear. Havent swung by there yet so I know nothing about it xd
It needs 75 flametal to get to lvl3 (unenchanted version)
The metal is easy but the biome is tough
that's the trade off
Only the strongest survive ๐คซ
The biome is tough but ironically adds a lot of qol
indeed
Ive had worse
-# silver sword, i am looking at you xD
Like said flametal being quite easy and quick to farm, building resources are extremely abundant and you get them fast, can get coal fast, can gather outside the biome fast, etc etc
Had to visit the swamp... Again... Just for chests...
You know the biome's tough when you have to make a brand new ship just to enter it before losing the same boat 5 seconds after reaching the shore
Idk why I didnt make the chests blackmetal.. we've got a surplus on my server
The iron cost of the silver sword puts me off making it more than the 40 silver lol
That probably makes me insane xD
I need to convince my brother to get the xbox pass and finally hop on Valheim again... Playing solo isnt fun and I cant get to the Ashlands alone
I cant sail ๐ญ never learned how to, he always sailed everywhere for me
I really dont care about that it costs 23 iron as much as about the 160 silver xD
Just bring a pet boar with you
Ehm... Its no longer on the xbox gamepass as far as i know
Will a Lox do? Dont have boars tamed yet.. still waiting for a 2star
WAIT WHAT? His character was on xbox.. what now
Do characters translate to steam if on the same pc? Probably not right?
Make a new one probably, i have no experience with xbox so no idea if its possible to recover it
Even though it's a lot of silver, I like to take the time to get stone in the mountains and the silver farming comes with that.
It feels like everything requires iron so the small amount of iron just bothers me disproportionately
Trying to remember if I ever tried fitting a lox on the drakkar. But if he feels comfortable go for it
Yeah, and silver is not used for much anyway ๐ but 23 is really not a lot of iron
Hi
It feels like a lot when I've already sailed away from the swamp
XD
You can get that much from one chest xD
But I have to sail back, get it, and then sail home again
True true, but you can make a whole new iron haul at that point and have even more iron ๐
Ok do they tho I must know
It's bad memories from my first time playing the game when I didn't know iron was also needed for plains armor
