Honestly though, Valheim is more complete and in better state in Early Access than many/most "fully" released games out there. Personally I am fine with longer time between updates when the polish is at this level. Played so many other EA titles that have been an utter mess during their entire development up to and after 1.0.

My favorite biome atmospherically is the swamp. But my favorite in terms of just hanging out and exploring is the meadows. That said, I haven’t yet been to the Ashlands. I’m an intentionally slow player. What can I say.

Find an infested mine and put 2 portals there, one to get to it, one to get back to base, every few irl hours they get respawned as in a lot of mobs and the royal jelly are back.
Now if you find another IM you can set 2 portals up again and link the 2 IM's to each other so you can farm one after the other.

I didn't find Ashlands any different to the experience of expanding into Plains, or Mistlands. Initially, the game gives us an invitation to 'Get Rekt!". Then, we spend a horrible time obtaining new minerals & crafting materials. At the end of it, close to max-level gear/food in a biome makes progresion pretty simple.

For example, if you arrive in the misty lands with at least basic leveling, it’s not without difficulty, but you can survive there. In the ashen lands, I pumped everything I had to the maximum. Zero damage to enemies, they kill me in one hit. Okay, okay, it's difficult, it'll do. But! When 30 impossible broken units come at you... I feel sad about that.

To your point, the devs have now tweaked spawn rates. And, I'll admit, Ashlands at night has the tendency to allow you to defecate through a secondary hole. Also, exploration in Valheim has never felt so grindy until Ashlands... I'm starting to think you're right. Ashlands is horrible. On the plus side, though: at least (as of today) your grausten roof pieces don't have a gap at their top, now.

I found the Ashlands were really hard at first. Once I started forging and upgrading and using late Ashland-level gear, now it’s a breeze.
I had the same problem when I first entered Mistlands. A lot of people experience that feeling when they first enter Swamp.
You will need upgraded gear from that biome in order to feel satisfactory for that biome

Yep, me too. I can appreciate the game concept that progressing through purgatory becomes more difficult as you go, but there are surely more compelling ways to achieve that than just increasing the spawn rate and making more of the environment hurt you.

Staff of the Wild and Thundering Nihogg or Thundering Berserker Axes or the Klossen all make things sooo much easier. Also making the Gemstone Cutter for the Black Forge and fully upgrading everything makes it sooo much easier.

Tips for New-to-Ashlands players:

1. Don't go anywhere without materials enough to drop a portal at the first place that seems safe.

I use max level Ask armor, Feather cape, barley wine to counter fire, I eat Piquant Pie, Roast crust Pie, and Marinated Greens. Pop my protection bubble, and just hold my staff of the wild at the ready. Go to Ashlands and just start wrecking. If combat ramps up, I use lingering stam potion and lingering eitr potion. I keep Bonemass power at the ready. If I re-cast my protect bubble, then I pop Major Healing potion to recover … it is a really good setup. When eitr is low, I pull out the thundering nihogg and flametal shield

I am mostly sprinting and jumpcasting

It is, it's got a good amount of base slash damage but it's only about double what Frostner does in blunt. It's also 2 biomes later. Spirit is mostly whatever, but my point is that the Frostner punches above it's weight class more than the Mistwalker does, even if the Mistwalker is effectively an upgrade to the same "slot" as the Frostner holds.

Definitely good as a surprise attack sniper, you can one shot things sometimes. You only get one in Mistlands onwards but they are really good against the mobs there. You just need to keep your skill up. In Ashlands they are less great as most of the monsters there are resistant to pierce and sadly there’s no elemental bolts.

The wiki makes it look like the roots stay the same under 0star you can see the damage of it.

If you are up for some testing you could go into a test world, console command in a staff of growth, console in some mob and cast close to it and see how many hits it takes for it to die.
Upgrade staff to max and do the same, test it a few times each level to see and that way you can check if it does more damage or not.

Having everything they can have maxed before doing boss versus get the lowest possible and go.
So for bonemass that would be maxed iron mace and either iron armor or root maxed, maybe even the bow and having a good farm running for all the foods.
Compared to lvl 1 mace and mix and match of armor with the swamp food that is easy to get.

The Klossen (jade mace) is a really good weapon. Maces are normally chosen for their knockback and crowd control ability, which Root ability compliments well. The lightning however is very strong offensively, but it does best with fast attacking weapons like sword or berserker axes. That’s not to say that a lightning mace wouldn’t be good. But mostly I would think the mace lends itself best to the jade and the root, while the sword or berserker axes tend to do better with the lightning.
But lightning is extremely strong offensively and if you want that, but like maces, a lightning mace would still be a good weapon I’m sure

Keep an eye on your fire damage/tick if you get inside his aoe. When he uses his meteors, instead of running you can just walk back and block because you don’t want to get too far away from him or you won’t have time to attack.

No, but oozers are too rare and not a reliable source. You can use a wishbone to find small iron scrap piles buried in swamps.

If I have to terraform a flat road in order for the cart to roll, I might as well haul all the ore myself and periodically toss it out to refresh stamina

Carts can make for a lot of funny stories lol if you enjoy it rolling down a mountain and breaking over and over lmao. ||my friend and I discovered that it’s better however to overburden oneself, turn on PVP, and have a friend harpoon and drag you lmao||

I’ve transported a cart full of ore on multiple occasions. None of the paths have been perfectly flat. Some had quite significant elevation changes over very short distances. You just need to keep gradients below about 45°.

There is a way to lower the gradient bt shift clicking the hoe. And gradually letting it fall. You can even figure out how to find a path by doing this so it doesn't drop off immensely.

Yeah, without dev codes yes that is the only way. Which can be time consuming. I've had this happen to me when I have become disconnected from my wifi a few times.
