whats everones take on what i should do with my iron. weapons and armor first?
i always make the mace first
if in swamp
I think the only reason ice staff isn't as balanced as you'd hope it to be because it's good against yagulth...
I mean queen lol!
But I do plan to grind some yagulth later, planning to add a lot of those wisp fountains outside of a wizard tower I'm planning to build
first 10 iron = boat
After that? Maybe a couple big chests and then the iron mace
Is it just me or do mobs in mistlands etc hit really, really hard, even with highest protection stuff on
I often bring 6 copper with me to make a forge in the swamps, that way I can make the nails there and ship back a lot more iron on my first foray there.
Like really hard, they hit like trucks, how are you expected to fight such things
its fine if you can parry
seekers
They do 😉 They're very strong. Wearing a root harnesk will help a lot against the seekers and ticks as it will cut their damage to less than half. The other part of course is food... make sure you're using top-tier Plains food on your first forays in.
only real problem can be 2 * seekers/soldiers
i still hate seeker more
every single goddamn ight in every goddamn meadow and blackforest you just hear creatures beating up each other
Carapace armor sucks against them then
Chest yes, the other two no
Ashlands is worse?
As expected from a biome that is after yes
It's a bit silly sometimes
You can have the best food, armor and weapons and a mob just facerolls you
i dont think so
What's balance
there are just different dangers in higher numbers
Just drink a fire resist mead. It overrides the weakness of the armor.
Think I will just carry materials to make those bolt firing things and set them up where I want to fight
One for each mistlands enemy
On normal difficulty, the seekers become easy with a frostner or ice arrows. Ooze bombs help a lot with softening them up, too. Don't be afraid to run away to reposition if you're getting swarmed, either.
thank you so much
Need a tactical nuke to throw around at stuff
Seeker soldiers laugh at your big bang
My god, there's a typo in munin's message.
Everyone, stop playing the update, your games will be literally destroyed!!1!
Doomed
Also silver sword is weaker than mistwalker, which can be very well used alongside other ashlands weapons.
But mistwalker is just one tier lower
genius idea: Remove silver
Surprisingly, the very last biome in the entire game will be difficult.
Shocking
would be 9 with DN
Mistwalker has frost + spirit.
Frost alone makes it superior, spirit adds a bonus
flux resets in gobilin camps or need find new one? : )
Ashlands is the penultimate biome. Not ultimate 😉
Pretty sure Rianu is aware of that.
One word:
Crowd control
Are greydwarf spawn farms still a thing? Or were they nerfed back some patches ago?
Yes
Which happens to be 2 words 🤣
And yes
Oh right... shoulda read up further 😛 Don't mind me
As in, they're still a thing. They haven't minded those spawners at all
Why does the game load slower than mc bedrock on console?
@azure yacht ty
It’s doesn’t 💀
For me it does
5 minutes of staring at a spinning Mjölnir or whatever the load icon is
That’s rough
tell your PC to git gud, always helpful advice
it is mjolnir i think
*console
oh... guess have to tell Sony to git gud 😅
Xbox
Are you on a 486DX-40? (Edit: Oh, Xbox. Not far short. :P)
nah sony busy ruining helldivers
On a what?
Even worse. Im on a last gen xbox
This bad boy is still going
It's been 6 minutes since i clicked play on the world. That loading icon is starting to creep me out
I'll take the "raw power" hit so I can see where I'm going with 450 encumbrance in Mistlands, ty.
is there any real reason to use the fracturing staff now? like fire no good in ashlands lol
The game loaded! Lets go!
Oh, in Ashlands? Then, Club. It's 'a crude, but useful weapon'.
Again: Frost
Spirit is effective vs the undead, frost is effective vs literally everything there.
Which also increases the dmg as well, what I said above only referred to the slow effect. So add 58 frost dmg to those 155.5 from mistwalker
oh dear, that feeling when you rage logged off last night and wake up and your portal to the island where all your gear is says "unconnected"
Oh, my bad then
how do I despawn the roots from the staff of the wild
Also, it's not a bad thing that silver sword is so effective in ashlands.
It was pretty much only useful vs yag as you can't count earlier enemies.
Especially considering how expensive it is to craft and upgrade. Old gear remaining relevant in one way or another is positive
Frost allows you to even get around asksvin and hit them while they try to turn around
I dont know if its a spoiler, but what the Hel is a heavy build. Wanted to build a chest and noticed a new tab.
It's stone, marble, etc. Heavy build pieces. Just a way to split things into more categories.
Are the vineberries something you can put on your buildings?
Been gaming with the || new axes and himmin in the ashlands and it's legit absurd how strong it is, atgeir stagger into the insane damage and restagger in axes, eliminates anything in seconds ||
atgeir secondary attack just needs to be straight up reworked
so much potential to be cool but lacking just a bit
and vultures
But... but... my barley!
get a big hammer or a fiery staff
it's not like people use a scythe in real life to harvest crops. No, they grab a big mallet and go beat the shit out of the crop field until it surrenders the crops
THEMS THA FLAX!
Or if they can't afford a mallet they'll rent a flamethrower from the local convenience store and burn the crops until they harvest themselves
interesting. I also didn't know Ashlands mobs were weak to spirit thought they were just normal. Might silver arrows be decent?
Come to think of it, would silver knife be an alright knife alternative considering there's no ashlands knife?
Idk, I feel like I always end up with too much silver. It's so fast to find and mine, and you don't use it for much
You mean:
"You need a lot of it for a few items, but nothing after that."
Disconnecting?
Jumping puffer fish when I was sailing without any food
Who needs Bonemass anywway 😂
tbh most runs I skip bonemass. His power is kinda boring and being raided by wolves in the mountains can potentially be dangerous
Ehh kinda depends what you wanna make with it
Same, I'm trained now in finding silver without a wishbone. I never liked that thing anyway, had more trouble finding the vein with than without. Stupid bleeping.
I think I've done him 5 times or something, in my 4.5k hours. Okay, maybe 10.
Bonemass just trivializes combat for a few minutes I feel. I like something like eikthyr more where it gives you more room to be mobile, so you have to use skill rather than just clicking left mouse button and not caring if you get hit
That's exactly how I fight Eik :vv:
Has wider attack range and stagger dmg as well
But tbf, I facetank everything.
In the announcement, you showed how the animals stay on the new ship. This was not added in the game. Why? What kind of shoddy work is this update?
time to try the higher difficulties
But then I have to start thinking about the buttons I push and that never ends well for me.
I'm not good at battle dancing 😄 I don't dodge, I don't parry, I barely use a bow. I just axe things.
They did?
And one of use will stay standing.
I only saw a lox on a ship.
Doesn't really state anything...
haven't seen the pic but yea lox already go on ships
And you can
What a deadline? they've been doing the update for a year. They do it terribly slowly and terribly carelessly.
And it must be easier considering the bigger size of the ship
And it was.
They don't. You still can't transport LOH, there is no slot for tying them to the ship by the bridle
Did you report any of them during testing?
But they never stated that would be a possibility...
You could always transport lox.
Has anyone else come across rotten meat in the putrid caves?
They just showed a lox on a ship.
You can do exactly that
Hi people! 😄 please, we fucked up on ashlands beach ..... 😄 :D, lost 3x, just asking for help, get our stuff back :/ running on dedicated, if somebody intrested, i kiss your feet back 😄
Yes, two years of early access and they couldn’t even do such a small thing as tying animals to the ship
just asking for help,,,
They could if they wanted to.
"small thing"
Well. If you can do better, show us you full game within the next 6 years.
7 hrs of valheim is therapy
They could if they wanted to make an interesting update with a new Hildir, but instead they just repainted the skeleton and the werewolf mage, but they don't wanted
Yeah, it's their game.
If you don't know the right way, you certainly don't know what the wrong way is.
As long as you haven't neglected other things during the day and had a great time I think you should be happy for having this much time to play
ask in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1033392094817046630

thanks
Literally the only similarity between charred and skeletons is the fact that they're skeletons...
But everything else is completely different
With a clunky attack animation as well
completely different skeleton dungeon? or completely different a werewolf cave?
I really love the brutes and askvins of Ashlands
the real skeletons were the ones we met in black forest, uhh, Ashlands, uhh summoned them ourselves
Are there different strengths to the wind? I know that stormwind is stronger than "regular", but are there levels to the regular wind? I also know that the angle obviously matters, but assuming the angle is always the same...?
Haven't personally but I know a lot of people have
From what I understand their only purpose ||is to be used just like bukeberriess||
I have no idea.
I would grant the point if they meant the actually reskinned troll caves (putrid holes) and troll from trollstav (literally a troll but as a skeleton).
But the charred and early skeletons is like comparing greylings to greydwarf brutes or deathsquitos to seekers
Starting to feel like everyone has a different definition of what reskin is...
Marble? God damn, i really need to try getting past black forest for once
That's quite a ways past the black forest, but yes 😉 Lots to discover in the game. Play with the world modifiers if you need to so you can progress, the combat and such isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Yes, just like the summoned troll from trollstav
It has the exact same behaviour and animations.
But as a skeleton
True, it makes some sense.
But still bugs me slightly
Lol haven't realized to use them as anemometers
I think the dvergr rogues in Ashlands might need a couple tweaks. Just watched a couple of them, including a level 2 one, run directly into the lava and die in seconds because they were chasing after something lol.
Love makes you do stupid things 😛
haha
Hi guys! Does anybody have a feeling that there is too much mobs on ashlands for square meter?
some people think it's too many some people don't. It's been debated a lot
The devs did change how many mobs there were (nerfed spawn rates) once, I wonder if they'll change it again or keep it at this.
Personally I think it's decent how it is
Ashlands is meant to be endgame content after Mistlands, a lot of mobs on the map should be expected for endgame tbf.
liek for party of 3 guys it would be ok, for for solo... every time I battle my way to dungeon through to many of them
well imo mobs could be stronger to fit endgame difficulty. but they overwhelm you with count
det er lidt hårdt
It's the last biome currently though so it's meant to be a bit tougher than the rest
I'm about to reach out to Iron Gate and explain to them that, in physics terms, proximity among entities is increased when the ambient temperature is higher.
I do think it is a bit many mobs to be roaming the ashlands everywhere you go, but I don't feel like there's any real challenge anywhere else in the Ashlands so if they nerf the mob spawns they need to make the resource locations more of a challenge imo (hope they do)
Turned the combat all the way down. I aint no dark souls enjoyer.
✨ 🍞 ✨
Only the Dvergr?
Voltures boiling themselves in the water
Then it would feel like pretty much every other biome before...
The theme is around warfare and conflict, it makes sense that you're constantly fighting
If you're dying frequently, I'd recommend investing in cremation urns.
Or lowering difficulty
my stocks have increased an infintie amount already
can i just please get some helpppp There's monument of torment (ashland update) right beside my base. How do I destroy it??
you hit it
Can even cheese it from afar with a staff of embers or crossbow or something I imagine
i tried to slash it with silver sword and it does nothing ?? 😦
If it shows numbers, it's receiving dmg
Just attack it with a sword. Mistwalker does take about 5 hits
aight, so i just beat it with mobs swarming on me i'll try tq:')
When do you plan on cashing out on an infinite return?
Can tamed pets be harpoon dragged?
Are you Kristi Noem?
Where to post feedback about Asksvins and mounts in general? Don't want it falling on deaf ears.
Is this a dog killing joke?
Killing dogs is no joke, but Kristi Noem is definitely a joke.
no politics yall
especially not in valheim chat
much more important is my complaining about the new shield generator sound
much more important is me complaining about the flammetal shield and how it doesn't parry as well as carapace shield
bro stop talking about it
I mean a mod is going to intervene real soon either for the topic or for mini moderation
Thank you!

Yeh, but the mods are no worse than the rockers or the punks...
Hey y'all just wondering will picking up a piece of flametal ore unlock the recipes? I have some ingots and nothing happened when I picked it up 😛
they do it for free
Quick question, best method for copy pasting buildings from an old save to a new save? 🤔
plan build works well
Picking up ore should unlock ingots, ingots will unlock other things like weapons/armor/build pieces
its a mod
Would anyone be willing to let me jump in and pick up a piece of ore, pretty please? 🙂
Thanks 🫶
Thank you!
Try the server chat: https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
Otherwise you could just devcommands the ore...
i'm not saying its a good thing
the type of person to become a janitor or hall monitor for free because of the kick they get out of it
Might wana move this discussion to general chat since it isn't valheim specific.
Generalizing a group of people as all bad isn’t valheim related? I wouldn’t of guessed
I’m really surprised a mod hasn’t shown up, one of those weird lapses of observance today
It's impossible to play Ashlands solo, it's very difficult, any tips? Is the mage build playing well?
the spawn mobs is insane, many mobs any time at any place
🤔
I might have overstepped by making the recommendation.
not really no
ty smifffffeeee
I was more curious why Tristan once again derailed chats
Back to me complaining that I miss the old shield generator sound
Was it more of a florpy sound or a dorpy sound
I've found that upgraded eitr robes and ember + ice staves, balanced HSE diet, and an upgraded buckler w/ Mistwalker is a great loadout for first landfall
And that was before most of the spawn nerfs they've done since~
Prior, it was quite florpy
now, however, quite dorpy.
My first run was literally killing 2 mobs and running to the portal, hordes of 5 enemies right away
Mage build is definitely the easiest/strongest I'd say
Going hybrid with some magic and a melee weapon as Scarlet suggests is super nice too, I really like that playstyle but it's a tad more dangerous
Honestly I've been trying fortress raiding on EEE diets and mostly magic weapons and been having a hard time of it
I'd say Balanced or HEE is pretty safe food for a mostly mage player
If you jump in to the fortress immediately it might be a bit tough since you can't stay at range in that confined space like you can everywhere else as a mage. Elsewise in Ashlands I find it's pretty good
It's just so fun playing hybrid though, and melee weapons do good damage
The melee weapons look great, I need to get some~
My flametal so far has only gone into embla chest and shield upgrades
Plus Ripper
I'm not the hugest fan of the general Ashlands progression and combat encounters, but man the gear slaps. All the weapons and armor seem fairly unique and satisfying to use
whats the H?
Once you take out spawners its not too bad but ya i had some troubles too. Def gotta be skilled there. Lots of parry for melee and kiting for ranged.
And you really need to learn to parry
Especially those warriors
The feints still mess me up
Yep parry is a must!
Gotta blow of that old dark souls dust and pull out the skills! Lol
I'm not great at timing against the feints, but I've still not missed a parry once against them.
I just parry like regular thinking it's a regular attack, and then when I see it's a feint I let go of the block and press it again and get the parry. Just a double block instead of single block
Could someone let me have their Eitr-weave Set and Staff of embers please
You can spawn one in if you need one desperately
can you use the bronze pickaxe for silver?
Negative, you need to upgrade to iron
it's weird, you can use the antler pickaxe for mining iron, but you do need to upgrade to iron pickaxe for mining silver
I always attributed that to the fact that you're mining mud and not iron.
That’s a good take on it
We don't have a sluicebox but I kinda always imagined it that way
Yeah I can see the reasoning for it, but it can be a bit odd when you're coming in and learn that you don't need to get a better pickaxe when your current one can mine everything even 2 biomes later. But then the same rules don't apply for bronze pick
Hey! Is it ok to ask Ashlands questions here? Or should we use spoiler tags on anything Ashlands related if so?
Spoiler policy has been lifted with the official release, no need to use spoiler tags
Really? Feel like it could be nice with spoilers at least for the lategame ashland stuff
someone has one new good seed?
Only for Mistland related stuff in case a new player sees it........
/s
It's a courtesy that we'd like to encourage, yes, but we won't enforce it since it's a lot more nuanced
I'd be more interested in knowing what a bad seed looks like? "Good" varies from person to person, to me a good seed is one that forces a lot of boating and exploration
I'll put a spoiler tag anyway, just in case. It's || on either side for spoiler tag, yeah?
Aye, that's right
Is there any benefit to upgrading the ||trollstav|| ? The stats look identical.
(except durability)
hahaha boating and exploration its a good seed, but in the moment i need one new seed for speed run
As a ||summon weapon|| I'd imagine the stats of the ||troll skeleton|| you create changes
Don't have any hard numbers tho
There are a few reddit posts and #1202740443352137838 has some good ones
Yeah if it's just durability it's totally not worth doing.
For that specific speedrun-focused goal I'd probably look for a blog post or similar discussing that because it's likely going to have more of the details/comparison you're interested in.
“Good” to me is how many crazy world generation occurrences happen. I want to see bizarre terrain that looks like the gods dragged their fingers through the earth
deep north when
Soon ™️
I have close to 3K hours in this game and I'm still amazed by some of the landscapes I find. If the IG team did a deep dive on their procedural generation algorithm, difficulties they've faced and how they solved those difficulties... I feel like the larger gamedev community would really benefit from that.
few years prob
I'm an old guy that played early alphas of Quake and I remember the id Software response was always "2 weeks".
nearly 3.5 years
I'd say 2026 max
It’ll be done by the end of 2025 just to spite you guys
Im thinking of trying out the new update, does anyone wanna join me and expereince it together?
The world needs more spite-motivated releases.
#1024264966712340510 would be the place to look for/ask
ashlands was very short update ı think mislands was better
i can going search in more blogs, thanks!!
Thx
If you’re okay with playing on hard we started a server the other day and only have a few people
im done with the update good luck
Sure dont worry, what server is it
one of us 😈
... is there a channel dedicated to discussion of the fandom wiki?
I was playing on Very Hard, got to Ashlands, and had to turn it down to Normal.
I tried Ashlands on Vhard but it didn't feel good. Vhard in general doesn't feel good
Hard does feel good though
Yeah I think I might tune it back up to Hard now that I've learned some attack patterns
Channels and Roles should have a 'wiki' role somewhere
Right under the PTB role toggle
Any armor or cape with frost resistance will work. That includes lox cape if you are willing to brave the plains before the mountains.
I am having trouble finding flametal ores... My first ashland island is quite large, got lucky enough to get a boss altar right away, few putrid caves, few lava pools, but so far no fortress or signs of flametal...
also yeah, I agree that the spawn rate is pretty insane. Even the Mistland didnt throw that many enemies at you
WIth campfires and patience you can get around mountains without frost mead. Whether that's worth it is another question.
But if you plop a campfire down when attacked by wolves, the bonus is that you can run in a circle around it the wolves will eventually burn themselves to death.
On my current playthrough I did this and got fenris armor before killing The Elder. I had multiple caves closer to my world spawn than The Elder's altar, so if you're a confident player it's not so crazy.
Enchantments does reset the quality level of weapons?
Try to cheese Lox cape, it's not that hard. You just need bunch of arrows and max distance you can make between you and the Lox.
Shoot bunch of arrows from max distance, they won't even move.
Gather pelts and gtfo from plains and make yourself a good frost res cape to explore mountains xD
Correct
Requires silver also. Not a trivial thing to acquire before you have an iron pick, though doable.
Also doing this right now except I'm on very hard :D
I'm only on normal preset, so frankly pretty easy.
Siege machines are really needed to raid fortress?
True, but much easier than cheesing wolves while frost dmgs you + can have trouble with golems and drakes
No. You can jump over the wall and use a pick to go under the door of the tower in the middle.
Max raid chance, highest difficulty, 3x resource rate cause solo. Hard death penalties, no boss portals and fire hazard is on :D
The camfire stops the frost from damaging you in addition to killing the wolves. Carry 50 wood and you're good. Stone golems are slow and easy to avoid. Drakes are the only real problem, and even then, it's only scary if you're hit by drakes and wolves at the same time.
Compared to luring a troll up to a silver vein, I'll take campfires.
Getting silver armor to fight elder, very fun.
I wish
🥴
So am I able to get all the mistlands stuff without killing yagluth? Me and my friend have been exploring the edge we have a mix of mountain/plains tier and have managed to get a dvergr extractor
There are not enough expletives in existence to put into words how I feel about my corpse being in the middle of a camp full of dverger that I angered
Not all but most.
As far as I’m aware the yagluth drop is just to be able to see in the mist?
Time to go find some bugs and lead them to the camp...
yep, the only "hard lock" on progression is Moder 🙂
I can't even get near it
You won’t be able to make mistwalker without yagluth
Take a step back, prepare some rescuer gear
The Mistwalker sword, Wisplight and Wisp Torches.
anything involving wisps 🙂
Ooze bombs, frost arrows, you can snipe them somewhat in a hit and run manner
Ah I see, so we could theoretically skip plains armor and go straight for carapace tho?
I might have to prepare
is everyone loving the update???
just did some 15 corpse runs, dead before nabbing the corpse or shortly after
Bonemass is probably the least useful boss to kill. You can skip all silver gear if you want, and you only need to find one exposed silver vein for a butcher table and some other random stuff.
Yag is up there
Sometimes you can’t just brute force it unfortunately I’ve died in mountain before to then have to gear up with swamp gear and died in swamp gearing up to get my mountain stuff
And killing Bonemass enables drake raids if you haven't killed Moder, and drake raids might be my least favorite.
I've seen people build Carapace gear without having even beaten Eikthyr. But that's masochism levels of commitment to do that 😉
Doesn't that require moder tho
Yeah screw plains tier armor it takes too much iron
It’s been a pain farming for fenrir armor I’ve killed easily over 50 cultists and no trophy
Game isn't balanced at all anyway
And honestly, Queenie is now up there as a pointless boss kill. Sailing the drakkar sucks, I honestly might try to raft to ashlands and then feather cape the rest of the way, once I get to the spires.
I wouldn't sweat about tiers
How come?
Hmm... you may be right. I think you do need it to get sap and the eitr refinery. But they have definitely done it without beating Yagluth.
You can max out carapace armor and a seeker soldier will still one shot you
Which part of that isn't self explanatory? Have you tried sailing the drakkar through ashlands yet? They even reduced the spire density from what it was, but it still sucks.
Unless there's a new method i'm missing you can't get eitr without moder, but ye without yag is doable 100%
I’ve only just reached plains tier
Bonemass kill should mainly be for his power
Fair
is there any quick way to get iron in ashlands? forgot to bring some
Artisan table is required for a bunch of stuff, you aren't getting far into gear for Mistlands or Ashlands without it
I guess nearby mistlands and a sword statue..? Unless something there has it
Putrid holes and pots in surface ruins. But you'll need luck.
Sometimes the clay pots in ashlands drop iron
thanks, ill keep an eye out and hope i get lucky
The pots are on the upper levels of buildings with stairs. Make it easy on yourself and bring a stack of wood to make climbing up therer easier.
jesus fucking christ, just spent the last 4 hours getting back to my base, restablishing the portal connection, getting back to the infested mine, and then a single tick catches me at the wrong time and I can't get it off me and kill it in time and boom back to the starter island and my portal is unconnected yet again.
I used to be able to destroy the bottom of the large swords and armor in the Mistlands and everything else would just fall apart. Did they change how physics work with those structures?
complete reset to where I started
There might be an invisible connection somewhere where the ‚blocks’ that make up builds are touching
Restart the game? If the portal was connected, it should be fixed with a reload of the world last I knew. I'm sure you also know that dodge rolling will knock a tick off.
Ashland culinary is kinda easy, But what food is most worth eating regularly?
I do know, problem was the tick caught me with 30hp after getting hit by a seeker soldier from the stairs below me and I had no stamina so yea I was able to roll it off once but couldn't finish the job and it just latched right back on and I was doneso
Do you have any major healing potions yet?
3 grave stones in that mine with all my shit in them on an island just outside the ashlands waters and here I am at the boss stones dick in hand and naked
I dunno about major ones but I have some just didn't have them on me because the goal was to get in and get out but clearly the goal was not reached... at least not with me getting out in the desired manner
Major Healing saved me in many situations in ashlands
Agreed. For me the skippability is probably bonemass > Yag > Queen > Eik and then I wouldn’t ever permanently skip Elder or Moder
I’m surprised by how easy they are to craft compared to the previous healing potions
Bruh skipping bonemass? The ability is busted tho
It has saved me many times
Skipping Eik feels a little obtuse just because it's so close to spawn
Exactly, it makes things rly boring for me so I don’t use it much
If we're fine with a little chair ~tech~ elder is very skippable
Chair key
Skippable, I just don’t like to
Mistlands gives you plenty of iron, depending on your resourcefulness.
Sometimes you sit down and just end up in a crypt, wacky stuff
I’d say it’s very beginner friendly, it’s allowed me to attempt the mountain golem and fuling berserkers with a little less fear of dying instantly especially when it’s your first time facing them and you have no frame of reference for the damage they deal
I find it synergises well with tasty mead and huge amounts of enemies
lava really needs to be a ramping damage and not an instagib
i think this is a simple, get better situation?
ew. a skill issue sammy
my issue isn't with falling in lava lakes shouldn't mean death. my issue that the random patches next to them on what should be safe ground do the same damage as if you were in the center of the thing
you seriosuly dont think the devs considered a ramping up damage...i mean they litteraly did it to the water system....but if you think jumping in lava is anything but instant death then like idk what to tell you
visually it's not consistent
I put lava on my burritos
I do agree that the, very small barely notable lava pools that are far from the lakes, shouldn't exist or not be a instant death if you don't have full flametal armor.
That tiny orange-is patch that is less than an ankle deep over there in the middle of safe walkable terrain? Yep, death.
if i hit 5 different enemies with a polearm spin attack, will i get 5 xp for the polearm skill from that single attack or just 1 xp?
1xp, it's per successful attack, not per enemy hit
HI !
Someone hepling with issues?
i'm having crashing when playing
#valheim-help is the best place to chat in depth about issues you're having
be careful, he gets mad when people point out the obvious i think
You could all be less of a jerk about it.
sorry derek, im working on my anger issues
Is there a lore reason for the character's eyes being always blue? just curious
Perhaps it’s because we’re odins chosen and his eyes are blue?
Yeah i was guessing it had something to do with that
Same feeling here. I died to a (barely visible) spot of lava when fighting skeletons. Also the whole "does nothing for a few seconds then instakill you" is quite frustrating. I'd rather have ramping damage over time. Downing a fire resistance potion doesn't seem to slow it down.
Nothing that I have come across. But it would make for a convenient identifier for those who are no longer among the living(those carried to a new world by valkeries at Odin's will)...or the devs didn't want to make pupils...not sure which.😋
The fire resistance is a different factor. Lava is "heat" resistance. With flametal armor, you get a couple seconds of the edge of the screen turning red before you catch fire (something similar in the boiling waters but takes longer).
can I change the world settings after I created the world?
If you are referring to "world modifiers ", yes you should be able to.
Before clicking to join into your world, there should be a button that says "modifiers " much like the start button.
It will have sliders and presets. Hammer mode, easy, normal, hard, hard-core if I remember right.
One slider affects drop rates, another difficult of combat, ect.
yes, but I already modified the world and I wonder if I can change it after
we picked hard difficulty with friends but we're too bad at the game
sooooo
You should be able to still.
i just noticed something interestinggggg
the iron sledge does the same damage as my iron mace
and i want my iron and gold back
because i think its useless
The host can change the settings every time you start the game and before entering the world if you play it at the host's PC.
If you have your own (dedicated) server it should be possible too, but I have no idea how.
Thank you very much for your help guys
are ashlands night longer?
It could have something to do with a difference in skill level. Your hammer skill may be at a different level than your mace/club. Only way to "rebate" materials spent on armor or weapons is to cheat. Devcommands or mods.
The ||trollstav trolls|| don't seem to level up your ||blood magic when they kill enemies||. That seems weird, do we think that's intentional?
Would it be too broken if they did?
I doubt it, but it's likely it looks like that because the entire biome is more dark from the start.
Kinda like Swamp having a more dark feel due to less light as well.
Is there news on ashlands Xbox yet?
theres a separate skill for it?
Oops sorry
I believe so. Check the 3 interlocked triangles on the in game menu.
2-handed Hammers are using the same skill as maces (clubs).
But while the raw damage may feel like being the same, don't forget that a 2-handed hammer is doing lots of AoE damage as well.
news to me
right, because tanking things works in this game, definitely (it doesnt, never has and never will)
ive spent like 5 straight hours trying to get good food and after all that, if i try to swing this thing at a draugr, i get 3-4 shot by him and his two pals
ill just kite and mace and save this thing for door and leech cheesing
That's not because the damage output you do; that's because that weapon is using more stamina and is more slow in its use as mace is.
i know
therein you find the damage problem
like zero dps, and you swing once and you're dead because you take a month to swing
What's your skill in clubs?
And the level of your 2-handed hammer (whichever that one is)?
Stagbreaker?
2 handed hammers are for memes and for finding underground ore veins
Memes I understand, but how are they used for finding ore?
I never bothered with them in any capacity since they are slow af
if you hit the ground near an underground ore vein you'll get a "Too hard" message pop up
That's clever
Just slam the ground with them.
When the "too hard" message pops up, there's likely ore over there.
Works in both the Swamp and the mountains
Thanks fellas, new strat
I thought they were changing that
What ore is underground in the swamp?
Iron
Iron comes in veins now?
muddy scrap piles also spawn underground in the swamps
It's just rare
Not a lot and it’s just a pile
I always thought it was only found in dungeons
It’s just not worth acquiring besides in the dungeon
Is the mudpile a different model than the vein?
Digging for muddy scrap piles in swamps is not worth your time except for maybe if you need two iron for a stone cutter or something
If you're clever you can spot muddy scrap piles outside of crypts sometimes. The best place to look is steep hillsides that border other biomes. I once found three along a plains swamp border with a steep hillside.
Too much work, rather pillage a crypt
Crypts are also a good source of chains
The undead ain't gonna purge themselves
The thing is the classic scary music you hear when the nights starts doesnt sound in the ashlands
So i dont know when it starts
This games ambience and environment is just so good
And they nailed the feeling of safety once you return to your home
(Assuming your home is safe)
I showed valheim to a lot of people over the past couple weeks and they generally agree. But the one place it looks pretty bad is shadows indoors from fires.
It can be hard to tell, until multiple star enemies try to jump you...
Valheim rule #1: to survive, make sure your home is safe.
yep lol. rn im searching for a 2 star askvin, i think is the same way with 2 star wolves, 1% chance of appear so yeaahhhh.
But I admit, when picking an island to build a base, it's easy for me to say that. 😄
I'm only in meadows for my freshly-reset-for-ashlands run
I do notice that it gets nearly to dark to see more than a couple meters ahead when night falls, but it is like black on black..difficult to tell the subtle difference in shade.
But I always find one of those tall stone rings near the ocean and wall it up for my first base
Then I put spikes all around it and convert each of the stones into a small archery platform with ladder access
So I have like a palisade wall and archery towers, and one gate in
Still plenty of room inside for bees, smithing/smelting, and a garden
So far that's never been breached
Exposure to Spice obv
Ashlands question: Will the pillar start sinking if I blow up an explosive rock at the base or is it only when it's gently caressed by a pickaxe?
is ashlands the final place that should be visited?
Ashlands is the second to last biome, there is still the deep north, in the north of the map, which is unfinished
In that case, think about what would happen if you swing a broom or a brush.
Both may hit just as hard, but with a broom you will be able to swing less often as with a brush, but you will also be able to hit more things / people with it at the same time.
mmm but my brush comes with a dustpan (buckler), and the broom just sorta moves shit around
You won't be able to defend / block better with a 2 handed weapon compared to a one handed weapon and a shield.
so it suckssss
but i might e able to cheese bonemass from atop his skull thing
with the shovewave
From what I've read - and a tiny bit of personal experience - the only thing I know is that a spear is useful up into swamp, but not even to kill bonemass; that an Atgeir is basically the OP weapon and that the Magic staffs are OP once you get into Mistland.
The 2 handed hammers are useful to find ores in swamp and mountains. And later to deal with the spawns in the queen fight - or even the queen herself if you can get her to glitch.
Oh man Ashlands is crazy scary
wait wdym find ores
Question, are there pre-built worlds I can download and use in Valheim? I lost my save for my massively built up Mistlands world but am really eager to dive into Ashlands
ugh its been over a year since i played and i cant find my corpse xD
It's been mentioned before.
Slam a 2-handed hammer at the ground and look for the "too hard" message pop up.
Mine there and you will find silver in the mountains or iron in underground mud piles in the swamp.
It's useful in the mountains, but since you can haul more iron from the crypts in the swamp, not of much use if you kill the bosses in the intended order.
If you consider skipping a few bosses, however, it's a very useful way to get some iron before facing Moder.
I have a question. I played on PTB for Ashlands, now that it is officially released. Do I need to revert my game back to play with my friends who didn't play for BETA?
moder is the mountain boss right? i think thats where my corpse is on one of these servers
Moder is mountain boss, yes.
If you want to get your corpse from there, better make sure you have eaten well and drank a Frost resistance potion.
im just jumping from every server in my list to see if my gravestone will appear on the map
Hey does anyone know how to make a doorway for a flame metal gate that doesn't look goofy
We made one with flametal posts that looked pretty nice
So I take it you have to just build one that's not on the building grid
Perhaps building "backwards" might do the trick?
And there's always the "[shift]"-option
Freeplaced with the shift key
I don't see how building it "backwards" would fix the issue of the gates not fitting on the building grid dimensions wise
Yeah I figured on console we don't press shift press the left bumper and right stick to toggle the building grid on or off
Simple:
Place the gate first, build the poles next to it and start building the walls from that point on.
You can clip wall pieces into other pieces with or without using [shift]; so eventually it will fit the grid.
Didn't the askvin armor give extra movement speed bonus before release?
Because I thought it did
whats the straw for?
decoration
Comfort level
Asksvin cape in tailwind
It did not. When it rolled out, each piece of the armor had no bonus, and there was also no set bonus.
Throughout the whole process, it had no speed bonus or penalty
I just finish building the frame for the base why does it actually look good
Tbh the game looks wonderful but oh boy do I wish a "you can't see shit today" weather was far less frequent
wdym
Fog and mist stuff
I dont have it happen that often. I only have it occasionally in the meadows and oceans really
Like, make it track how many days have passed from one another, I'm so sick of constant fogs
Fog is the worst weather cuz it genuinely hinders you from even just enjoying the graphics
Just wait until you get to Mistlands.
Compared to the fog you encounter now, it's like walking blind folded in a pitch dark room with furniture at spots you won't expect at all.
At that point you will long for the fog you have to deal with now.
anyone know what you need to parry an abomination on hard difficulty?
Bold request but would anyone be willing to download their pre-ashlands world and send it to me?
Does anyone know if reverting a server to a save made before the update will cause any problems with the new ashlands areas loading?
My bad wrong channel
this base is testing the very limits of valhiems stability system but somehow its still holding up
is there a way to uproot things you planted, i pushed the boundry of how close i could place them and some now wont grow because i made a small error, do i just need to wait till the others around it grow? or can i pick them back up somehow?
if you're careful, you can use the secondary fists attack (kick) to destroy the ones you don't want.
I know how mistlands look, both fogs suck
i just defeated bonemass, but it felt so cheesy the way i did it that I just obliterated the wishbone and all the loot i got from it, im gonna do it again, but this time an earth wall around the entire thing so I don't get ganked by everything in the fucking swamp just for being honest
but that doesnt refund them
nothing does.
😦
No if you plant wrong them you've lost one item forever
But they're plantables so you can always farm more
Haven't used stagbreaker in a while. Does silver say "0" or "too hard" when hit?
I think it's just "0" now.
if my friend owns the world, and i want to play without him, is there a way he can share the world with me so i can open and play without him on?
Yes, if you're playing on steam he needs to
- Go to Manage Saves
- select the relevannt world file from the Worlds tab
- Download the world using Move to Local
- Navigate to AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
Anyone having trouble with grown vines actually producing fruit?
In that folder there will be a .db and a .fwl file, he can send those to you and you put them in the same location
evening everyone lost my old world that i used to beat mistlands, but for some reason i still have my character. i was wondering if anyone would have some endgame crafting tables and repair benches i could use to repair my tools
it's "too hard"
does this save builds, progress and such?
Yes, but it won't sync between files
can your farm be like, tramppled or something? I just lost half the carrots i was growing
makes sense, thank you!
So basically, if you make progress on the world, you will need to host the game next time
Yes, valheim creatures hate growing things,
mobs like to attack crops a lot
dope
Ye
round 2
will greylings through rocks over fences to break them?
or can i just fence it in and leave it alone
OMG thank you so much!!
just dm me server info
enemies dont agro your builds unless you are near it, so if you fence say a farm and leave the farms area they wont attack it
ok
There's always a little risk with farms unless you build big walls with a lot of space from the plants, but a fence should be alright if in the meadows
If a greydwarf shaman comes by though bewarned: His poison goes through the fence and can destroy a lot of crops
good to know
For the "Bleeding" weapons, when it says "Damage increased per health missing: 0.2%"... is that per point of health missing or percentage missing? e.g. if I'm at 100hp / 200 max, am I at +20% or +10%?
is there actually a way to sneak attack with bows or is it just a normal bow attack while undetected
normal bow attack while undetected
finally finished my first megabuild
So I have talked to Hildir and went to the quest locations....there was nothing there?
Yes. 0.2% extra dmg per each point of hp missing
do you run faster with weapons sheathed?
Yes
yep
Press R to sheathe both of your weapons and R again to unsheathe them
Or unequipped in general
deathsquito jumpscare
Awesome, thanks for clarifying!
that was the single most exhausting experience ive ever had in this game.
||tried walling in the boss area, gave him WAY more than enough space to spawn in, but no, he just spawns on the other side, so now all my escape routes are cut off, which means I had to take a break in the middle of a boss fight to break down the walls, then I got ganked by like every creature in the swamp, even with poison resist potions he still kept killing me with it, i dont know how 0.5 pops up and i take 2 damage a tick still, but fine, ok, but why did an army of draugr show up? Oh! Another amazing tidbit, is the fact than everywhere around the arena, you go from flat dry land to immediately in a swimming state, and guess what was everywhere around me? Thats right, leeches. So while I was originally trying to build a wall around it so i can just fight the boss and the minions he spawns, I ended up with a 45 minute battle with the entire swamp, plus him, having to do like eight runbacks, and wasting all my stone on the wall, so no, from now on, I will in fact not be fighting bosses honestly, or at least not bonemass||
tldr: im mad and stoneless and it's boneman's fault.
megamind.jpg
No stone?
wasted like a hundred iron on a hammer that is precisely -100% better than my mace, wasted like 800 stone on a earth wall that didn't work, and about 10 hours of potion and food making on gear retrieval on a boss i opted into fighting honestly after hving already cheesed him because i felt there was more fun to be had
i usually clear out the immediate area of enemies and wait for a new day before summoning a boss. Learnt the hard way with a nighttime fight against elder. 2 trolls on me and 6 graydwarves of various types.
i did that though
As a side note, you can drop campfires and they'll prevent enemy spawns in a decent radius while enemies won't attack them unlike crafting benches
i promise you i did, but every time I turn around theres like 4 new draugr
Also the fun to be had in fighting bonemass is from coming back when you're geared to hell and back and beating him senseless
Bonemass is a pretty big filter
i didnt have much issues with bonemass
i look forward to never fighting him again
i will actually just transfer my wish bone between saves if this is what awaits me every playthrough
Honestly I went at him with the iron mace and shield and didn't experience too many problems
because jesus fucking christ i hated that shit
yeah thats what i did
Yeah it wasn't a great experience but not the worst
me too, i have my gear maxxed out and all the potions and food I could get my hands on, and i still died like 8 times
iron sledge isnt really worth it, I just stocked up on serpent meat and stew, a muckshake, poison resist mead, and iron armor+mace and shield and didnt have many problems
i did the same thing
anyway now to try to tame a lox
i just feel burnt out
does the act of chopping trees cause greydwarves to appear
that amount of farming for this return on enjoyment kinda killed my momentum
greydwarves and other creatures react to noise, which is created quite a lot when chopping trees
i swear more spawn in
it feels like that
Anyone have any idea on how to do the Hildir requests?
lox spotted, im gonna try to isolate it from its herd and then harpoon it
i can clap bonemass if i dont get ganked by random level enemies
yeah. bonemass himself is easy, its just the swamp that makes him annoying
is there a new battleaxe in the ashlands? if there is dont tell me the name
what is bonemaw meat used for
can you check something i send in screenshots rq
eikthyr = jump training
does axe skill make chopping trees better or is that specifically wood cutting
Is anyone else unable to sail into Ashlands? The boat just sinks to the bottom of the ocean and everyone dies.
20%, so really designed for triple or at least double hp food. Feel it could use a lil buff though
i think i read somewhere that you can only get there on a drakkar
Do you have the new ship

Yes both times with the drakkar
It doesn't take damage. It just sinks to the bottom. Then everyone either makes it to spire or gets cooked.
Someone else also on steam posted this same issue a few hours ago. Not sure if it's everyone or tied to a mod somehow. I played the ptb on Xbox and didn't have any issues like this.
i personally havent been to the ashlands myself yet, so im not too familiar with the boiling waters mechanics. Ill see what i can find online.
i`ma just build a bridge to it
Honestly, just drop cloudberries on the ground and then go hide nearby. Tame the whole herd at once
Hmm yeah I played ptb on steam and didn't have an issue either. Haven't tried since full launch
Although I'd imagine there being a bigger fuzz if it was happening to everyone
Could likely be a mod issue
We use very limited mods. If it is many of the modded servers will have the same problem. We just beat the queen and after that this just feels really bad.
with the fishes
whats the deal with world generation? my friend just got it cause its on sale and hes trying to make a world and its taking forever/not responding
what types of mods do you use.
Is it the same with a longship? I've found it possible getting to the coast in a longship (I had a pretty clear path). I'm guessing possibly with a repair midway or jumping on the rock spires you can make it even if your path isn't the best
Gotta let it load for a few minutes first time, even if it says it's not responding. Could take 5-10 min
hes using the drakkar.
It's a mess. The water is full of floating tombstones and sunken ships.
clearly a bug or conflict.
what types of mods are you using
Sea of Tombstones
How do I get my cursor to display the x and y coordinates on the map?
yea but the drakkar isn't working
Anti cheat
Server side characters
Dungeon reset

PlantEverything will be updated to: 1.17.2 AutomaticFuel will be updated to: 1.4.1 Groups will be updated to: 1.2.8 Build_Camera_Custom_Hammers_Edition will be updated to: 1.2.3 PlantEverything will be updated to: 1.17.1 World_Advancement_Progression will be updated to: 0.2.12 Venture_Location_Reset will be updated to: 0.9.0
I'd say probably with a mod. Don't think it's a vanilla function but could be wrong
Also boat explore radius and equipment slots
i would try disabling the mods one by one and using dev commands to test the drakkar near the ashlands.
Start with boat explore radius. Anything that relates to boats is likely the issue.
Dude ashlands was not ready to be release it's performance is absolute dogshit
I was surprised they dropped it with all the changes they've been making. Didn't feel ready to me either.
works fine. Mods are expected to bug out since they are outdated
Been fine for me outside of a little framerateyness during parts of boss fight
I do wish it had a little longer to cook before release tho
skip them 😎
jk
I should try pulling some pirates of the carribean moves to sail there.
@raw escarp @smoky quarry The Ashlands itself is a stutterfest
It wasn't juat the boat. First one player couldn't move and was just sliding around. Then the boat sank and then even those on spires eventually slipped off and sank to the bottom of the ocean. Like that section of the game was completely broken. No issues at all until we tried going into Ashlands.
Hoiiiiiii
only solution i see would be disabling mods
Any tips for decreasing lag in game?
Yeah just a lot of stuttering and mobs sliding mid fight
Are you on multiplayer?
Yeah - dedicated server with me and a friend
Yes.. lol
Yeah, basically it means one of you has a bad computer
rough, cuz it aint me lol
I mean, both people can be fine in single player, but as soon as you get together the game just gives up and dies
Could also be someone has a bad connection perhaps?
I was about to say, we're not far apart and there is a storm brewing in the area, could be the issue too
If you get far enough apart the lag will resolve
Is there a general 'threshold' for entities that starts to lag? And is there a way to check entities in an area?
I don't think it's entities I just think it's something in the ashlands
I just meant for areas with lots of entities. Been wanting to do a larger build soon but was unsure.
Our main base is massive atm and we get lag there but can decrease it when we harvest crops
the more changes you make to the surrounding area, of any type, the more laggy it is
i made the wolf chest peice does it give as much frost resist as the wolf cape?
ashlands are such a combat slog
yea, all frost resistance is 50%, and none of them stack. so mead + cape + chestpiece is the same as having only one of the three
awesome thank you
do axe skills improve tree chopping in any way?
No the woodcutting skill improves that
Fuck I am having no luck finding an ashlands castle
woot, got a Morgen Trophy. That took longer than expected (I played quite a bit on the PTB)
does axe skill do anything to tangentially increase wood cutting ability like make your swing faster or take less stamina per swing?
More damage per swing for sure
whats the difference in tree cutting ability between axe skills and woodcutting specifically
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Wood_cutting_(Skill)
Per this, cost to swing is governed by axe skill, damage per swing is from woodcutting
ah nice, so there is some benefit to leveling axes
how tf do i access the charred fortress
do you level axes by chopping wood, or is that only in combat
Woodcutting skill for chopping wood, Axes skill for combat
Has anyone had issues with lag in the ashlands? When the game saves it typically freezes for a second but this freeze effect is happening frequently in the Ashlands. Any suggestion to fix it?
Does anyone know how to craft frostner in ashlands update? Ymir's flesh are not in the trader
should be in the trader if you killed the right boss to enable it (Elder has to be dead in that world to enable ymir flesh to be sold by Haldor)
Multi or single player?
ohhh right.. thanks!!
multiplayer, dedicated server
I haven't tested single player yet
If it's multiplayer check if it happens with only one player in the ashlands
It does
Check task manager and see if one of your CPU cores or your GPU is at 100% utilisation
I am using gportal for the dedicated server, so it's the server host lagging?
It only happens in the ashlands, the freeze effect is so bad, it freezes every 5-6 seconds and then it's fine for a bit
Valheim server hosting is weird, most of it is handled by the client
I don't have issues anywhere else, when ashlands released, only the ashlands are glitchy and laggy
So maybe it's just because the new update needs some tweaks?
Could be, I'm hosting it on my own and on my machine it's not using much inn the way of resources
the CPU for the gportal isn't either but then again, this was not an issue with gportal. They are pretty good and since I am in Az, I chose their nearest server in LA
So the MS connection is really good, we can have 4-5 players with little lag but solo in the ashlands is really bad right now haha I died four times because I was lagging every 5-6 seconds
Check single player in the ashlands, it might be just because ashlands is a laggy mess
Could be, I will do that. Thank you!
How rare are Charred Fortresses? They seem extremely rare on my seed
~20 fortresses per world
I think max 20 per world?
So not that rare considering the small size of Ashlands
They're usually towards the center of the biome though, not near the shores.
look for pillars of green light in the sky
how are daggers as primary weapons
any good?
situational
based on what
counts as pierce dmg, so yeah... good way to start your attack, I normally switch to something else to finish a fight
does pierce damage get bonus sneak attack damage?
anything does, i think. so the dmg can be amazing if your target is weak to pierce
Made my return to Valheim. Played Mistlands. Died 8 times. Success! Only 8 times.
8 times so far*
bow probably better imo
ill leave off daggers for now i think...actually sneaking into melee range is pretty tedious too
yeah probably
at least compared to just shooting something at range
might be more geared towards pvp. hard to say as I haven't been able to experiment with that yet
oh hell yeah finewood bow and finally some copper weapons
now i can actually kill things fast
They're still good weapons without backstabbing
Morgen gjall.
Exactly, I'm enjoying them for now, good for hit and runs tactics and the 2nd attack leap does cover some distance, quite easy to merk deers with and greydwarfs.
The fast attack animations make them great for jumping around things like trolls and lox while still dealing constant damage
I cheesed the finewood bow in meadows.
Break a birch tree by cutting down another tree close by and bumping that log into the birch tree till it breaks.
Keep bumping logs on the stump and the birch log for finewood or bump the birch log into other trees.
Look for a pine tree close to the edge of the black forest or one that is on a hill that leads down to meadows and cut it down once it is down roll it into the meadows and cut it up in peace or try your luck and cut it down in the blackforest.
If greydwarfs show up, high tail it out of there or fight them if you feel comfortable doing so.
Kill some deer for their hides and voila finewood bow in meadows stage.
too much work, i can just power through eikthyr and get copper pretty quick
i know i can cheese them with knocking over trees
same with cheesing copper with trolls
It isn't actually that much work, just find a birch tree with some trees around and cut those trees down, good chance they will take the birch tree with them and break it without going trough the bumping hassle.
That is how I discovered I could get finewood before I had the appropriate axe.
Same with the copper and troll, was mining some copper, troll showed up, I dodge and the troll hit the copper and boom there was copper on the ground.
does anyone here have public server cuz ppl in lfg doesnt asnwer at all
Magic feels pretty weak, tried doing protection bubble and Gjall destroyed it with one hit, so using it against queen will be unwise
I had the opposite experience
Magic felt overpowered
It's live 3 level but I need practice for it, still I will use bow, bombs and good old frostner
It is weak at the start but it goes up really high with some levels in blood magic, also if you use the deadraiser and apply the shield to the skeletons they last a tad longer and create a good distraction to let you get away, take a better position or rain destruction down on the ones attacking you and your skeletons.
Also 1 hit extra you can take is always nice, plus with that bubble every parry just works, no matter how high your health is.
Now the staff of embers is good right of the bat and makes life so much easier certainly if you have the eitr weave and use 2 eitr food and either a stamina food for glass cannoning or a health food for a tad more survivability.
i should really start playing again but its just so sad now that my freind cant join me anymore 😦
hey, I wanted to ask which portal settings ya'll use, I a little bit indecisive when it comes to this because the immersion is great when I can't travel with metals but things can get tedious from time to time
It’s like all skill sets in the game.
Terrible unless you put the time and effort into improving it.
Do you remember how unbelievably slow you first were when you started? 🤣
I made a new character recently and the contrast is shocking!
I do "no metal porting" but if I'm really not in the mood to sail all the way I'll world hop and go about it that way.
Did you enjoy my dm?
I go for axes - less resource investment for a decently effective weapon and tool
but getting the resources is half the fun lol
Mace is good since you fight so many mobs that take bonus blunt damage
Axes lack a heavy attack they're better as a back-up
Swords are faster than maces and have higher amounts of damage potential
They're decent but are specialized
Polearms are amazing
More enemies are weak to maces and they stagger better
Pros and cons right
whats amazing about polearms
when i used spears last it was annoying to try to hit things
What tier are you in
unless polearms are different than spears
copper currently, and i tried up to iron on my last run
They are spears are ehhhh
Polearms are great
They're different yes very spears id say are the worst 1 hand option
Polearms are two hands and can do large aoe heavies they're crowd control weapons
Yes.
so how should i be doing my weapons, pick one type and stick with it or try to level like 2-3 variants? im assuming bows are always leveled, im referring more to melee options
So what i do
Is i run a mace or sword as a main and i use an axe and a polearm as backups I'm using a sword atm but maces are better for swamps
Depends what im fighting
so you level 1 primary 1h + shield option (either mace or sword) and the polearm as a backup
do you stick with sword or mace throughout a run or swap those too?
Yea swamps are weak to blunt and spirit damage ie skeletons wraths draugr etc
ill probably stick with maces and bow then
Maces are better there but against idk say a troll id use a polearm
is polearm actually worth it
Depends on your Playstyle
its significantly better over a mace + shield or bow?
No its about the same with different pros and cons
I'm currently doing knives and bows with mace as backup, since mace is king in swamps and against the swamp boss, frostner is also a mace and stays a good weapon well into mistlands.
Once I can go mage I'll have a staff of embers as main together with the other staves and knives as backup.
I also always have an axe with me for trees and can also serve as backup in a pinch.
Frostner isnt really swamp tho
Just use an iron or bronze mace
That is indeed mountain tier.
True.
Holds up still
flint or fire arrows? or both
huh since when do hearths have snapping points
Fire till obsidian and mosquito
Wood arrows for deer, birds and puny greylings and other weak things.
Fire arrows for the rest.
That is how I roll till I can get my hands on obsidian and frost arrows in the mountains and needle arrows in the plains.
Flint arrows do a bit more damage than fire but they are all pierce damage and are harder to get mats for than for the fire arrows.
Bug arrows for the queen might be interesting, going to try it this evening
arent the mats for all the arrows basically the same
at least the early ones are all 8 wood, 2 feathers, and either flint or resin
Yes, but resin gets brought to you, greylings and greydwarfs will annoy you non stop till you get tired by it and if you kill them they drop resin.
Cutting trees can also give you resin.
For flint you need to find water and run around picking flint up.
A bird drops 3 feathers, so shooting a bird with a fire arrow uses 2 feathers and only yields 1 and that is if you hit.
So shooting a bird with a wooden arrow gives you 3 feathers and missing isn't a big deal, just go cut some more wood.
oh damn i didnt realize wood arrows didnt take feathers
thats pretty good for only 5 less pierce damage
Yeah, in the beginning till I have a chicken farm I always carry around a stack with me and shoot most things with it and only switch to fire arrows for brutes, shamans and trolls if I feel like it.
Same in the swamp, I'll sneak around and plink everything with a bow and wooden arrows, most things get insta killed or seriously wounded because of the extra sneak damage.
If I get into a fight with multiple mobs or a stronger mob I'll change to fire arrows or flint since swamp mobs in water don't burn that well.
I have arrows in my quick bar to easily change the arrows I'm using.
archery seems so strong in this game
It's great, combine with crossbow as first attack and it can work wonders
Hi guys! Just thinking about getting the game in Steam. How is the experience in the Steam Deck? Thanks a lot!
Does anyone know how to get the server to work ? I am not able to start a server and the game crashed every single time i am trying to boot it up
Check file integrity
It is till you come across mobs with pierce resistance.
Already did
#valheim-help Using mods?
nope literally just got it
Let's continue this in #valheim-help
I am still yet to fish in this game and yet I have 5 fish in my possession lol
They just seem to spawn outside my base from time to time, trollfish and pikes
They jump out of the water or get washed ashore with a storm, quite normal behavior for valheim fish.
Have you found any weird grid patterns in your plains biomes? Mine seem to be full of them
Is yours a fresh world or a pre ashlands world? Because if it's a pre ashlands world seems to be something to do with the updated world
sorry, is it just me or am I jumping much higher than before the update or am I imagining it?
are you waering the feather cape? It grants a jump bonus now.
Recently started a new world to progress with friends untill ashlands, and i noticed how i miss the jump skill. I mean, in my main character i got 89 and in my new one only 41
@tight yacht @west pulsar , all weapon types can be good, but they do have distinct play styles that you need to take into account.
Example:
Spears are a fast weapon, with VERY short reach on your attacks.
However: they are extremely cheap to make/upgrade, hit faster than anything other than knives, and have a beast of a throw attack which will absolutely murder mobs when you hit them with it.
Of course, you have to actually hit the little bastards 😂
People just don’t like the playstyle tbh, but the guy with the fastest record for beating Valheim in the Trials of Tyr challenge was using spears the whole way through
Spears ingame are holded in the wrong way
Spears also level up faster than any other melee weapon, and the short reach means you’re not accidentally splitting your damage between an enemy and a wall when you’re in a dungeon or just nearby environmental objects
That being said, you also have a hard time fighting on uneven terrain cause you only do damage to things in a tiny space in front of you 😂
Pro’s and Con’s as the bread man said 🥖
anyone know if multiple players on the same server can legitimately get Dyrnwyn?
No 😭
Yea it’s hard to hit things below you especially. In crypts spears just can’t hit body piles
Unless you throw it, in which case it does great on inclines and such
I still preffer the 3 attack combo, and we got other better weapons to Pierce damage anyway since im not doing tryal of tyr
Atgeir early game is such an OP option in multiplayer
Close?
The game just begins in Mistland.
@serene talon WHAT HAS YOU DONE?!? 😭😭😭
That abomination in fan art is a crime against my sanity!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Only one per server
Now all we need is someone to mod that horror into the game with it’s own even 😂
Also, there aren't enough gems for multiple people to own every variety of weapon
Haha I’ve been getting that feeling every new biome ‘now the real challenge begins’
Only a few can spawn?
Nah, "Ican'tseeshitlands" are totally different
I’m scared I’m gonna get lost
I’m in immersive so I think my plan is just a shitload of wisp torches
Each fortress only has a small handful of gems per fortress, and its entirely based on luck whether or not you get the gem you're hunting for. If you're playing with 3-4 people, competition for those gems will be fierce
Oh god good luck
hi I am looking for someone to start a duo adventure I am French
Also fortress chests can spawn flametal ore INSTEAD of gems, so you may have fortresses where you get none at all.
OP in general
How do you walk on lava on ash
I don't think it's an "instead". It's just that the chests can give gems and flammetal, but it's not guaranteed that it will have gems (not sure if flammetal is guaranteed either)
To cross lava you can saddle up on a tamed Askvin, or use basalt bombs
Either build over it with basalt bombs or train an askvin to ride on.
It has to come to my knowledge that wisp torches do buttfuck nothing to clear the mist
lies
How do you tame the askvin
Same as you tame other animals. I believe you can use any of the ashlands veggies|| (vineberries, fiddleheads, smokepuffs)||
They clear a 4m or so radius in the mist
Maybe a bit more
But they only work in the mistlands, regular fog is too strong for the wisp
Thing about wisp torches is you can spam them to clear a whole area of mist. Very useful for ||the boss fight|| as well
This is a bit harder in Ashlands, however, since like other tamed animals you must remain nearby but out of sight to finish taming, and Ashlands will want to throw mobs at you constantly unless you cheese the spawners with campfires everywhere
Dig a hole, floor over it, lure askvin on top and break floor so askvin drops into the hole or make a sturdy enclosure, lure the askvin in.
Throw in ashland food stuff like ||smokeberries||.
Run out of aggro range and sneak closer so the askvin doesn't hear nor see you and sit tight and wait for it to get tamed.
yea I mean I'd assume people would just go find one and lure it back to their base and tame it there while they do stuff
I guess some people won't set up a base though
Why bring the askvin to the base if you can bring the base to the askvin?
That is what I did when I found a 2 star boar.
that's possible too
I just generally built very barebones bases in Ashlands, since the stone portal allows you to build most everything safely in another biome
safety schmaefty
good luck sleeping tonight...
Also I love the drawing shy ❤️
I'll probably do the same, raise ground for a small base that is just a portal, some chests to gather stuff in and have some food there as well and maybe a bed.
I want a pair of those night eye shades with that drawing printed on so i can see it as i go to bed
Did you enjoy the dm? Disaster girl smirk
Love the drawing and dmed it to sildarflame.
I would love to put ptsd under the drawing but the p and the s are already there ^^
still dont know what LBSPD is supposed to mean
Left Back Stop Play Distraction
Are the constent waves of stuff from the ashlands normal
like im getting waves of all the mobs
Hi guys! my drakkar just went belly up. any suggestions?
make another
probably retake your boat driving lessons
ye it is
How did it happen? Sailing, bopped something and it turned over?
Went trough a portal and came back to an overturned boat?
...
Doing that does it usually take alot of time
sailing through ashlads. ocean weaved me on spiky rock. First it was sailing on a side then totally turn over :c
Takes at least 30 min to tame once it starts taming
Damn
Asksvin is the best tame you can have now
Agreed
sadly no
Taming always requires 600 successful ticks (30 minutes). When taming is finished, a message is shown on the screen.
So if you can stay close and not spook the askvin it should be done in 30 minutes.
Not because Askvins are amazing, but because the other options are pretty mid imo.
And Askvins aren't bad
Faster than Lox, Stronger than Wolves. And their drope are very useful
Can walk on lava
Did they turn off the formatting in signs?
They definitely did nerf some formatting on signs once upon a time
Just why lol
idk, performance or visual style I think
you can still change color and stuff but they removed the glow if i remember correctly
If you can build nearby you can sometimes build a beam at the surface and then push from the other side till it flips back over, else try and get something under the boat where the mats are likely to drop and destroy the boat and hope you can grab all the materials before they sink.
Doesn't make any sense, due to formatting being kinda hidden thing
I still can't see shit at night also because default lamps not bright enough
No more dark storage areas where you can clearly see the signs.
Yea I think there was a lot of disapproval. I don't get it either
I lost like 300 Iron nails bc of sinking
Jump into water if it's not too deep
relatable
iron nails can be teleported cant they?
Yup
and i losting 30-45 Flametals bc of lavaiathns sinking 😭
Lmao
are you playing with no portals?
I Destroyed the boat but nails seems to sink faster than other resources
Can't lose what you never had 😎
And everyone playing solo lose some Flametals bc of Lavaiathans
I posted my screenshot on #screenshots . Dont think there is buildable surface beneath it😭 . But anyway thanks for reply
🗣️
I should hire myself to people who can't find serpents
not with speed
Btw asksvin cape good, but i died from falling 2 mins after
I start minning from the top am i doing right?
At my own fucking base in BF
lol
when in not in combat i just change to feathers
solo it's not too bad because there should be enough flammetal in Ashlands for you though. Multiplayer is where you need to make sure you're optimizing your gains
Yea i think about that, but what irritates me - inventory in game
i always mine each segment from the side, never the one im standing on, starting from the top
I don't have free slots for all shit i wanna carry around
Im using Queen's Forsaken Power everytine i went to flametal veins
Blackmetal pickaxe lvl 4 and Feathers cape
Same, oneshotting the veins feels good
optimizing = farming whole biome as madman
btw only 32 minning skill
Ah prob not oneshotting then
Is there a way we can make it faster
With cheats (devcommands)
Which commands
tame
I am not sure. Think there's some to speed up time.
But also you could probably just spawn in a tamed askvin or something. Look it up
Can you build from what you are standing on towards it? If so you might be able to get behind it and push it towards what you are standing on and maybe turn it over like that, else jump on the boat and stand at the middle, chop down with an axe and hope you get all the mats.
can you parry Charred Warrior
Yup
How do you ride it ive tamed it
"tame" insta tame any tameable creatures arond you
need a saddle
Make a saddle
Asksvin Saddle
how hard is it
Ok that guy is receiving too much attention i will stop replying him
Actually pretty easy
You can spam RMB if you play with skoll and hati, dunno about shield
ok thank you
Kinda Easy, you will just need get in time, the Feint attack is kinda annoying in hordes
I still can't build base at Ashlands, 2 raids and it's just unstoppable fights
Carapace Buckler still on top with 90 x 2,5 parry bonus
You cant attack while riding the asksvin right
Bucklers always will be on top
I just like playing with skoll and hati
Nope
even lvl 3 flametal round Shield cant unthrone him
I lowered my difficulty to Hard and I'm hoping I can use more flesh rippers, skoll and hati, and ||berserker axes|| for parrying now. Love dual wielding.
Hm? lvl 3?
They didn't add new improvement for black forge?
