Frostner is great against yag, too ๐
So, bit of a spoiler, seekers resist all physical damage is why the recommendations are what they are.
all i need for yag is frostner and health + stamina potions (already have barley wine)
My first approach to the mistlands is usually to find a long plains/ mistlands border. If you feel overwhelmed you can run back into the plains and hopefully get some help from the other mobs
yeah good idea, didnt work for the 5v1 fuling beserker vs abomination fight (it died before i could see health bar of it)
Plus the skeeters are good at hunting wabbits ๐
skeeters?
Oh yeah. Youโll be able to find a bunch of free rabbit meat this way. Deathsquitos = skeeters
oh seekers
Deathsquitos
No only other biome mobs will attack hares
I love the way the mist distorts the sounds of all the different mobs. The fuling laughs sound absolutely demented
Ticks, Seeker, Seeker brood, Dvergr rogue
does deathsquitos/fulings attack me while fighting yag?
Yes, they can do that.
Tar growth can do that as well.
does fulings respawn in villages?
Fun thing about bosses is that there are no enemies that will attack them, even from other biomes. Only your tamed creatures will.
ah ok
Hence preparation rule #1:
Clear the area around a boss spawn to avoid outside drawn monsters to join it.
And no, fullings from villages don't respawn once you cleared a village.
However......
It's possible you will find fullings there during the night as they are the "night spawn" and wander into a village.
saw the patch oh 0.4GB and was so so excited! Dammit aha
Ashlands will be in PTB first as it has been explicitly stated multiple times, it won't go directly to the live branch
Not everyone keeps that up to date, I barely know anything about the update on purpose, so, please tone down the attitude aha! Nice to see so many peeps excited though!

For the record don't think Rianu was giving attitude at all >_>
I'm aware of this,
She just likes having an excuse to use the sticker
That means they have time till the end of next month
I felt summoned
text is always difficult to get true meaning of messages,
1st half is up to June 30th. So we got 80 days all in all.
I don't understand this message.
Read slowly and outloud, Moose
The irony
I know, right?
You'll learn my ways someday โค๏ธ
If I build a ward in the dvergr tower, does dvergr attack also destroy it when they fight enemies?
I feel like it's my ways that were not understood.
I don't think I've herd often enough when the update is coming, I might forget soon
I'm taking over the bot role
Just wait until the day after tomorrow. I'm pretty sure there will be an update on when the next update will be then.
when update? /s
Could be first half of 2024, but that could be a conspiracy to distract us and release it first 6 months of this year instead.
Might as well change your name into Samacensored if you decide to take over that role.
I don't want to belittle your knowledge, but I've heard that it'll be some time before the next solstice.
Pls don't let HIM see this
Becoming a bot is a great way to prepare for the swarm
He's not the only one who can change nicks, ya know~
Yes but you're nice and lovely ๐ธ๐
Solved it. ๐
Wouldn't change without consent first, so no worries~
Jokes on you, message logs exist XD
Me omw to change Sam's nickname
Leave this alone hyperchan!
Ohhh fine. Ruining my fun
This conversation is giving me serious IRC vibes.
Then who's gonna wake you up in the morning
Every time i get pinged i think it is a release announcement and i get sad when it isn't
What about international squabbles?
We don't have a #UN channel, so everyone just gets banned
I've been pinged about 100 times in discord for another game, at this point I'm just expecting that the ping won't be anything important, so no more disappointments ๐
The amount of disappointment I have in myself right now...
I had two two-star boars. And when I tried to build a rudimentary farm, they both got out.
One of them got killed by necks. The other one was a pain in the ass to wrangle back.
Now I know that there are two-star boars out there, and I can replace the one I lost so I can start breeding, but god damn me for that amateur mistake of not having enough building materials on hand.
Don't feel bad. You'll outgrow boar meat in a matter of played hours.
But for a day 9 start, it would have been so good
If you got a 2 star, no need to tame a second.
Tame a common one, let them breed and kill off all the common off-spring the moment they've become adults; thus only keeping the 2 stars boarS.
May take a bit longer to get it going, but it's less frustrating as looking for another 2* boar is.
Works with wolves too, iirc.
Ah, that is good to know! But I do know where that 2-star is located, so the temptation to aggro him and bring him back to my farm is ever increasing, haha!
It would possibly beat slaughtering the common off-spring until my 2-star eugenics can begin.
But I will have to confirm that when I get back home from work.
Also a tip:
When building that farm, make sure it got a roof and all sides closed.
I dunno how far you've progressed and if this is your first playthrough or not; but you will run into an event that might kill all your boars if you haven't made sure they're in a fully enclosed area.
You could also set up a 2nd breeding pair in a safe pen outside your base to make sure you got some backup in case your farm gets wiped out.
oh yeah also is the event gone after killing the certain boss (i know which event but just curious?)
Nope
alr
This Inn thingy is coming along nicely... just so much more work to do and need and keep designing it as I build it ๐
oh yeah also i see that u like the atgeir, and ive been wondering, isnt it really good against ticks?
Haven't tried yet. I returned to the game few weeks ago when I noticed Ashlands is getting close. Started a fresh save and all, just preparing this for it. Had about 2 year break so haven't really seen Mistlands for myself yet
ah okay nice
if they are anything like deathsquitos when it comes to being challenging to hit (without blocking/parrying) then it's probably a good weapon for them
That explains the frantic new base building. ๐
Nothing feels better as starting a new game and build that new base in a favorite biome.
well i mean when squitos only deals 5 dmg per hit it isnt really a problem
30 if you're wearing Fenris set
I raid villages in this gear, just like being able to move faster ๐
with Atgeir, screw bows
fenris+root harnesk=single digit dmg
should i use frostner or iron mace against yagluth
Frostner
between those two 100% frostner
I've already got some ideas for upgrading this Inn once we get the update, such as that new wooden floor
guess i should also start playing again but its sad cause the world was for me and my freind but he kinda got too busy and now well, i kinda need to play along or i guess restart but idd rather not
do i use a shield for yag or does it not matter?
you could skip to Mistlands and make own stuff in own world, just bring metals you need to get started and your own gear
i usually get the blackmetal shield, yes
Another full inventory of stone, another little bit of progress
can you block it?
yep you can, i usually parry just to be sure i can block him
alr
alr so am i missing anything? i have full padded set, frostner, shield, stamina+health+fire prot, and food, do i need anything else for yag?
that should be plenty ๐
Which foods are you running?
bread, lox meat and serpent stew
i would make lox pie maybe
oh well thats what i meant
got plenty of food, should have abt 175 stamina and 200 hp
am i ready to fight yag?
you should have a good chance ๐
alr ill try then
That should be pretty close to BiS for HHS, yeah
whats that mean
Should be good to go~
moving my portal away first so it doesnt get destroyed
Best in slot for a health-health-stamina diet
ah
its funny how i can see 4 biomes at the altar, plains, mountains, black forest and swamp
only better thing you can get in plains is blood pudding instead of bread but that will only give you +2 health and +5 stamina ๐
Blood pudding would be better than bread for 5 extra stamina, but I think you're good~
If there's any tar pools very close to the boss altar, try to drain it and place workbenches around the center to prevent any more growth spawns
alr
You don't want one to gank you in the middle of a boss fight~
ill just place some workbenches
in haldors caravan if u want to watch me get shit on
feels like there's never enough tar
drained 9 pits and still need more... much more.
well too late haha
Oh I see
pretty much 10 min boss fight, my fire res just ran out
Nice kill~
actually pretty fun lol, only the meteors were dangerous when i went to the wrong side of the pillar, got me onetap lol
and he kept shooting his laser beam the opposite way lmao
Hi guys!
I need something like V+ for fine tuning
Should I install V+ or there is a better mode?
I see that V+ was not updated for 2 years on github.
Just got two serpents at once, that's not very common, no?
The group in #mods-discussion probably knows better, the main channels are for the base unmodified game
I personally recommend no mods ๐
I've never taken on two at the same time
Ok thanks bro ๐
The world modifiers kinda negate the need for most of what V+ offered.
Valheim needs no mods, unless what you are really after is a crpg in this style, in which case I'd love to see the end result. My absolute dream would be a crpg "building kit" like NWN in the Valheim engine. Sweet baby
could anyone explain why theres fulings in the black forest biome im in, its close to haldor and have explored the full island with no plains. And there has not been any raid
What bosses have you killed?
all but queen
For future reference, defeating every boss except Moder adds some of the mobs from that biome to the nighttime worldwide spawns (across most biomes, exceptions apply, no guarantee expressed or implied except in Niflheim)
Three serptent attacks in five minutes, two of them at the same time. I'm a serpent whisperer...
if i kill queen will seekers spawn?
Yes
and a few other things... you get some fun turf wars going on at night
one of the reasons I do not think I'll kill any of the bosses past moder in this world and go get the boss kills and stuff in another world. Not fan of enemies littering everywhere
I was a bit disappointed when the individual boss progress thing didn't include the night spawns
I have stone age newbies on my servers getting whacked by fulings at night...
I love post-Yag base building. Blackmetal delivery service every night.
my base is already in plains
But what about your second base? And your forward operating base? And your sap mining base? And your mistlands farm base?
will 2 starred wolfs be able to clean them up?
"We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast base?"
the time I'd be spending in thosse would be the time I spend building it while skipping nights. Then occasionally visit just to collect the goodies
They will help, but wolves start getting pretty outclassed by seekers and fulings, especially since seekers resist physical damage
will they be able to do it if theres enough?
Sure, but you will likely run into a net-negative situation unless you spend a lot of daytime breeding them and making sure to sleep at night so they survive to adulthood
ah, what about loxes?
They're quite a bit tougher, but they still take neutral damage from Seekers and Fulings and will not survive super long. A mix of tames can work well, but it's a numbers game. You won't be able to leave just 2-3 out at night and count them as safe. You probably need 10x that.
It is oddly satisfying to watch lower creatures piss off lox and suffer the consequences
I feel like in most cases, the lox bully the smaller guys ๐ญ
Smaller guys = your base structures
Aye, it doesn't take much to piss them off
No, you donโt have to go and stomp those boar to death, theyโre minding their own business!
Although anything attacking a greyling or neck is always funny lol
Wolves in the meadows are nice like that, I have one world where I keep finding random tamed wolves kilometers from my base, they seem to have wandered and bred while I was out gathering berries and such.
Necks have this wonderfully moronic aggressiveness
They just go berserk regardless of what they face
Never tamed a wolf. Never got the opportunity really, and didn't actively look for it
I just wish Mistlands could be permanently unveiled after you beat the Queen. It's such an awesome looking biome but you only ever get to see small patches of it
Just gotta explore more. I've got a cool location in #building-screenshots you can see where there's a lot of clear mist, and it not going away makes those areas so much more valuable. Also, with being able to see things from a distance it kinda defeats the whole "mist" part of the Mistlands... it doesn't stop being cold in the mountains or rainy in the swamps after you defeat those bosses.
Honestly, it would suffice (post spanking Queen ofc) if it would be misty as Plains is mornings and evenings. The impenetrable smoke bubbles in Mistlands is pretty meh in my eyes
I actually find other biomes to be a lot prettier than mistalnds. Not saying Mistlands isnโt beautiful, but imo itโs trumped by the plains and Black Forest. I will say, the shape/landscape of the mistlands is super cool. Just my opinion though.
Theoretically, if you had an incredibly large mistlands base- say like a castle. Would you have mist inside of it?
Edit: fixed fat finger spelling
Mistlands...
Place wisp torches around and they clear the mist
Mistlands terrain is a nightmare to navigate before you get the feather cloak, but I love how it looks in the un-misty parts. But dangit, being able to fly would be necessary to build a main base there haha
Right, what I mean I guess is would large rooms that are sheltered generate mist inside of it? (Setting aside mist torches I mean)
I just have an elevator portal ๐ And know where to climb. But I don't mind the mistlands without a feather cape, the biggest thing to do is just be methodical and manage your stamina closely.
Are carrots/turnips/onions plantable in the mistlands?
If they were previously in a misty area, yes. It works similar to fog in the rest of the world, except you can manage it with the torches.
You need a farm across at least two biomes at minimum to grow all currently available foods. Plains grows everything except Mistlands mushrooms, and the Mistlands only grows the mushrooms.
For some reason I forgot that regular fog appears in your home lol
you are not the only one ๐
do enemies killed by dvergr drop loot?
yes sir
where can i find a shared world save of peoples built worlds?
Do Dvergr Lanterns have the same status as torches? As base items I mean?
Thanks, so the answer is no ๐
Huh, good to note
I wonder if black metal will have any use in Ashlands, I have so much of it smelted by now, I just cba picking it up from fulings anymore. Feels like such a tremendous waste ๐
I hope not ๐
||Flamental Ore|| though...
only time will tell... I bet it'll use some--Mistlands recipes use every metal at some point
pretty sure...
I think youโre right ๐ค
but with black metal, you get SOOOO much storage space
Yeah. I'm a little annoyed there are no black metal arrows. Even though the needle arrows are there, the blackmetal is a commodity that just keeps coming delivered to your doorstep, while you have to actively hunt for the squitos once you're past plains...
that's true, there are black metal bolts though
But that shiny green metallic look ๐
I don't use ballistae though, feels pointless when it's easier to just run out and kill stuff
for the arbalest too
I need to build a couple of ballistae to test them tho
They're best against big and slow enemies, so I tend to use ballista for things like gjall and lox, set them with trophies so I can still safely go do what you're saying
Players should have trophies so I can target my friends
where's my valheim dogtags? this game needs a CoD rework /s
My main base is in meadows, so I guess I could program them for trolls and it would reduce repairs needed to my auxillary defences ๐
Nothing else ever gets to cause any damage
Might change with the Hildir raids, haven't turned in the chest from the plains tower yet
Hildir was on the exact opposite end of the map from the tower...
Man, the Plains and Mistlands and Mountains are all so pretty though... I love building there
I have smaller bases there, but I love having the main place where I don't have to be so paranoid
Plus I love the green, parkish environment in meadows ๐
There are 3 of each dungeon, surely at least one of the other 2 was closer.
What about Black Forest? ๐ญ
I would love to build a base in black forest but my friends donโt want to
The one I opted for was close to the queen, the others pretty far out still and not near anything else of note
I have a really nice base in the Black Forest that incorporates a troll cave as a forge, I love it a lot
I built a secondary base there, founded on an abandoned tower sitting in a slope near the coast, bordering on mistlands. Awesome location, and so easy to defend.
I really want to build an abbey that incorporates a burial chamber, I think that would turn out nice.
Love that idea! Mind if I steal it? Having a haunted crypt in my basement would be awesome!
Absolutely, go for it! Just tag me if you post any screenshots so I can steal your ideas ๐
Yeah, the Black Forest can be great but I just haven't found a nice coastline that I like with it. The trees are pretty to wander through, but I don't like sleeping there for some reason.
It also seems to be stormier there than in most biomes, but that might just be my perception
My base also features a pretty nice lake, so I built a little fishing gazebo that turned out pretty nice. Oak trees look really nice in the BF as well.
I'd build around this place, to have a port in the same complex.. #screenshots message
I need to do that at my Meadows base, I've got a perfect natural pond right by it that I can easily expand and make into a nice fishing pond
It's a minimal black forest patch at a plains coastline, there's literally nothing else than that crypt
Dang lucky find! That is awesome! Makes me want to keep exploring my world for fun anomalies like that
Bugger, I just realised I haven't marked that place on my map. Noooooooo...
Is there even an ETA on the next update? Been over a year since mistlands...
Mods really need to put a giant popup in place that tells new joins that ashlands is coming soon
We have it pretty much everywhere possible and people still don't read it.
People don't read those, i mean a whole ass popup they have to clear before getting access to the server
Like the popup half of every website now has that asks you about cookies that people will just blindly click through to get to the server?
Those same people that don't read the stickies will click to hide that popup without reading it too, you just can't get to some folks
More intrusive.
Unfortunately discord doesn't have that as a feature
even then people would ask ๐
Common discordia L
It's just human nature. I work with maintaining a huge IT system with a lot of users, whenever there's a major update that changes stuff you'll have a certain percentage of users going "why weren't we told?!?" although you've just spent weeks spreading info in every conceivable channel at the company's disposal.
"What did the error dialog say?" "What error dialog? I just clicked ok..."
I have set up 6 ballistas for the sole purpose of anti-gjall in a dvergr tower, with dvergr inhabitant if course
But i dont have any seeker soldier trophies so idk if they would find their way in and destroy the tower
Their attack deal huge pickaxe dmg to surrounding black marble floor titles so, something to fesr
Spikes ๐
Dunno what is more destructive to those towers, the seekers or the dvergr mages...
I set up 2 balissta at 2nd floor, i hope it has enough elevation angle to look down instead of letting enemy pass harmlessly
It costs so much to make mechanical spring, soft tissue is so hard to find, which makes refined eitr even harder to produce
Hoe about making gjall drops soft tissue upon death?
Just gotta murder lots of dwarves, or explore more. There are quite a few skulls out there if you're thorough.
If it could take any soft tissue you could just make a friend jump into the refiner. It has to be jotun braincells.
Is that why dwarves drop it, because they're descended from the Jotunn?
Theyโre probably carrying it as an emergency snack
"The Poetic Edda describes how the dwarves were made from the blood of Ymir, the first jรถtunn."
when did the development for the game started? 2016?
I think 2018 but canโt remember where I heard that so Iโm not sureโฆ
Development started before that, but the first publicly availalbe releases were 2018-ish I believe
The first Fejd videos on dvoid's youtube channel are from 2017, but the game shown there clearly has been in development for some time.
Finally found ONE black core
What Iโm thinking of doing is just breaking black forge and eitr refinery bsck and forth so I can craft and and get the rescource, meanwhile I find more black cores
You'll need to keep doing mines for seal fragments anyways
And the vegvisir unless you get lucky and find it early
I found the altar while looking for a mine
I had that happen in a multiplayer run. The mistlands I explored had a citadel in it, but I thought it was a mine at first and left it for later (it was across the water and would have been a pain to get to at the time). Was definitely surprised later on when I actually went to check it out.
late 2017 early 2018 solo dev
Just found the vegisvir in my first one ๐
So I donโt have to deal with that luckily!
Mistlands definitely by far one of my favorite biome in the game
It is my favorite biome. I suspect Ashlands may change that though
still no ashlands
I donโt know if my favorite is plains or Black Forest. If the Black Forest could grow the mistlands crops, I think it would be my favorite.
Ashlands will come out in first half of 2024
there will be public test beta
nice and tidy now ๐
thank you ๐
Just leave then
im here for news
now you be nice to the new people
thats it
What did I miss?
nothing much ๐
Me in a tutu
do crops lag up your base?
Damn, can't believe even an RTX 4090 isn't able to get constant 100+ FPS on max graphics settings.
Can only imagine if you're around your base ๐
my laptop runs it fine on max graphics
Specs?
I think the processor helps a ton with the game especially with the instances; probably.
rtx 3060 ti ram 32gb
Pretty good specs though, how much is your laptop in USD?
i acually got it like ono sale for black friday for like 700 but it was around i think 1400 i can look it up rn
I'm saving up for a 2500+ PC build and hoping I can finally run Valheim smoothly to fully enjoy the experience and scenery.
For now I get 50+ FPS with high-medium settings and 20-35 around my base.
Just out of curiosity...at what FPS do you stop enjoying the full experience and scenery?
Bruh, imagine playing at 15+ FPS?
65
Ryzen 7 5700U
no ram is memory
Oh, sorry. It's 8GB
like how man gb, u sent me ur cpu
lmao I don't know why I did.
I wish lol
GTX 1650 in a laptop, I doubt it's as powerful as the full graphics card though. It has always been a problem with laptops because of the space.
ah i see i could help u build a pc for that price man its actually a hobby of mine haha
Thanks for the offer but I'd like to experience building my own PC for the first time xD
... in a few months or a year...
yeah i ment like sending u part ideas
I already have an idea of the parts I want.
ah i see
I'm still debating on which one to choose though: 4080, 4090 or 7900XTX.
we should move to general chat haha becoming off topic here dont want to get in trouble
FOR VALHEIM!!!
fair ahhah, but ether one will do man 4 series is really good man
Tonight was a lot more successful, managed to get another 2-star boar back to base!
mines keep exploding on the boat lol
Do you think they will ever make 3 or 4 star mobs?
I am invested in the boar subscription and enjoy the updates
i get consistent 100+fps on max settings with a 3070
It was quite the journey. Searched all last night with no luck. Today, booted up my game, and literally the first boar I saw was a 2! Lured it back, taming it now, so now Iโll have the rest of the evening to expand my base ๐
I wouldnโt say itโs impossible. It might not be likely, and it could be very far away, but I think itโs possible.
Technically you can with commands, but there aren't extra stars and there aren't extra visual differences. The health, damage, and item drops of the enemy go up accordingly though.
5 star mobs can be like the bosses from Shadow of the Collosus.
I donโt know why, but one of my friends have the same exact xbox as me, and their game runs so much smoother than mine does even though I have way less game than them (and less fps than them ofc)
Probably their graphics settings are lowered for better fps.
Otherwise your xbox is faulty
You got a lemon
Hmph, maybe graphics can be the case! Maybe vegetation dop etc.
I donโt know if anyone else has this problem, but whenever I want to build a big nice aesthetic base, iโm motivated. But when I look at someone elses build iโm just so demotivated when I see it
You've already gotten the dopamine hit from a nice building
Do you see other people's builds as inspiration for your own?
Can you still die from falling in debugmode?
comparison is the thief of joy
Kind of
Very true ๐
Which is why I named my new second boar "Dissapoint" after they failed to be a second 2-star boar. He will not be long for this world, once the proper heir is raised.
Sometimes!
The building I'm most proud of was a shrine for the sun and moon that had a viewing window for the path of the sun and moon through the sky.
It was ugly as heck...but was a fun distraction.
i see other builds, some of them palacial, and i'm in awe, and stuff like that would be cool to have... in a decently populated server. given i'm always on my own, I don't need all that. I got my comfort house, food house, crafting house, boar house, and crop plant, and they're decent looking, I like 'em. It's like seeing amazing 5-bedroom houses in gorgeous places IRL. Nice to look at, impossible for me to get, and they'd be wasted anyway.
Is it even possible to run away from Moder or will she just chase you forever?
no idea. i kept trying to think of a joke about parents but couldn't land one even half decent.
What does "debugmode" do?
I mean we can use the console commands if we use "devcommands"
wiki says more but i think it lets you do a few devcommands stuff, just a lot easier
which ones to be exact?
To combat build satisfaction fatigue I tend to just ..as they say... Pick up the hammer and start building something. Not having a plan can actually be the inspiration to be more creative and spawn ideas as you go. This is where I can get lost for hours and I love existing in that place ๐
how do enemy spawns work is it a certain distance away from player builds?
Spawns happen like 40-80m from the player themselves, and there are player base items (see the wiki) like campfires, workbenches, portals, etc. that prevent spawns within 20m of themselves, so you can spawn-proof your base by properly covering an area with their overlapping radiuses
hell yeah
Starred boars have more/larger tusks and are larger in size.
And have slightly different coloring
Different enough I can usually recognize at a distance
That's the normal star amounts, I was talking about spawning them with higher levels than normal using commands.
ahhh makes sense
I'm still stuck on my very hard mode. EArlier I thought up bringing ooze bombs to take out the dverger. Last few times the bastards 1-shotted me
I have a portal right next to the ever-growing graveyard that I'm creating in this dverger mining camp
and fortunately I mined into the rock so its a decent cave
I need to get a screenshot, there's like... 8 Meitbual graves. Maybe more.
Each sent to rescue the previous
lol make that 9
Son of a #$%@# and I think he broke the portla
I also tend to build with my terrain instead of planning out beforehand, I do make some plans but I adapt where things go and heights etc all on where I am building
too close? Is it really roof or is it floor tiles on top?
I just got the "They were bros, man" raid ๐ฑ ๐ญ Devs how could you
I usually start with just a basic shack to get started, then once I'm comfortable I start exploring to find that "perfect spot" that I usually find dozens of, leading to it being impossible to choose. In the end I just ended up tearing down my first little cabin and built a castle at the first site... Then I build smaller FoV:s in some of the other locations, not because I need them but because it's fun.
whens the ashlands update gonna come out? i was thinking of playing valheim again, and make anew world, but if thge update needs a new world i gotta wait ?
The old world is also suitable for updating if the southern lands have not been explored
some got an increase
is stone at 50 or 75?
fitty
what was it before?
fitty
How do I know, come and have a look
i was playing earlier and i noticed increased sizes, and now my game doesnt have the increased size. just normal
Hmmm
im on the new 0.217.46 and i could've sworn there was new stack sizes
like wood at 75 same with stone. and sausage being at 30 vs 20
you certain its not a mod that stopped working?
though it actually might be increased to that, ahvent played recently
yet they still recommend a serperate new world right?
I did something I thought I'd never do - I made a magic staff (and the armour) to try it out. It's not something I'll be using a lot, but burning nightspawned fulings with it was pretty fun... When it comes to foods, is there a general consensus on how to balance it, two eitr foods and one health? Or stamina? I tried with stamina and felt extremely squishy, fulings hit hard so a serious glass cannon warning on that setup..
but don't ban the old one
@heady parceluse a force field and skeleton guards, two food for magic, one for stamina to run away
I've only made the embers staff so far. The blood staves drain health when casting, right? Can you kill yourself doing that or will it just fail if you are too low?
it won't kill you
@heady parcel#screenshots message and health quickly grows back
@heady parcelbefore summoning 4 skelettrons and putting up a shield, I had 101 health, after that it became 36, and is growing quickly
I thought Valheim+ was abandoned mod ๐ค
it still works so ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Should I go for bronze mace or atgeir?
Depends on playstyle, do you wanna 1h or 2h? If you go for mace you'd probably need a shield too
I would advise not to waste time on bronze, an ax and a sword will suffice
Iโve already got bronze sword and shield to max level already. So you mean my main focus is to rush Bronze Age Asap?
as soon as you get iron weapons, you will only need bronze to decorate the walls with it
This is what that cat tells you, that he pumped all the bronze equipment to the maximum level, all
Don't rush anything ^-^ Mace is for blunt damage, good against skeletons but okay against everything else. But if you already have a maxed out sword, I don't think you'd need another bronze weapon. Make sure you have other stuff first, all upgrades, cultivator, etc.
๐คฃ๐๐ป
Yeah Iโm enjoying every moment of the game. Putting lots of effort on base building ๐
Oh yeah! Saving Bronze for deco is big! I might need tons of em
bronze shields, and weapons look great on walls and furniture
Thanks Mr or Ms cat ๐ฑ
Mister cat, of course, the problem with English is that the word cat is not divided by gender
Ashland is open, right?
if by open you mean in ptb, no
ashlan is kil
Yup.. but Mister cat sounds more polite ๐

Ok tks
do you have to type that out every time or have you got it set up to like a macro or something by now
What do you think ^^
i reckon it's the latter. you've also got some impressive patience, i've only seen two people ask that question so far today and I've already got a headache
I'm the ashlands batman, i sense the signal in the sky
you're doing Odin's work, that's for sure
does anyone know what the rock thing means when it says beware the "horned one"?
i assume eikthyr but shes like harmless?
it's Eikthyr, yeah. From a gameplay standpoint, yes, but to someone who got dropped naked from the field of battle into a brand new unforgiving world, alone, a large moose with antlers like a bushel of spears shooting lightning at you would be somewhat terrifying
large moose LOL
never laugh at moose. Those are deadlier than bears
partly because people don't take them seriously
a bear can't flip a car with it's weight. a moose can ๐
A moose can't poop in a car's hatch, a bear can
Still would have loved if the deer were swapped for moose in the Black Forest. Bigger, badder and cooler in all ways ๐
The most dangerous in the forest is the wild boar, they are very aggressive, due to the fact that they are too shy, and their defensive reaction to attack
More than once I had to climb trees or go into the water when I met wild boars in the forest, they do not like guests
so a moose can bear the weight of a car but a bear can't moose the weight of a car
R.I.P. old valhiem discord
From ashes Valheim discord rises!
@exotic cradle

It's literally the same discord
Wait seriously?
Yup
although, basically everything got nuked and they had to set everything up again
It was back in control within hours and kinda back the next day, just most of the channels got deleted and had to start over, hence the week-long delay
But some of the channels are still here, you can see the dates (like valheim-help)
Okay
Yea it didnt change to another discord lmao
I thought it did
Nope, all same, all good ^-^
They must've had help to get rid of the raid person. Such as discord employee
Discord did fck all sadly, afaik ^-^
I've never played in a random valhiem server
Yea me neither. It has mostly just been solo runs for me
In my 350 hours of valhiem. Thinking about it
Shield still valid on hardest difficulty
Bow makes it easy
Lol i dont think imma touch on higher difficulties ever haha
Unless if its terraria. That's all fine for me to go high difficulty
I played terraria for 500 hours but I never beat it. People left and solo got boring
we solved it all by ourselves
Nice
they had the best cat for the job
Samaramon just called you fat

Chubby cats are extra cute tho. +25% fluff too
ive been playing with 10 fps yet the game is still enjoyable and i managed to beat game multiple times solo and with different challenges (troll armors only and bronze sword)
i still dont get it why the game needs really good specs to just run at 30 i have i5 9th gen with bad gpu gt 630 but i expected still to run at 30 fps and here i am playing on 10fps
devs should focus on improving perfomance
performance used to way, way worse
The last patch massively improved performance, and most updates come with some optimisations.
on this very same laptop that is now 2 years older, the game runs better than 2 years ago
i can barely notice that xd
the game had massive performance issues in black forest, now there isn't most of the time
yup..
mountains when its snowing ๐
Oh, the Mountains used to be a slideshow.
that used to be absolute hell on my poor laptop ๐
xd for me its still doing that
Time to update your PC perhaps then.
used to stay in cave until it stops snowing ๐ญ
i do have money but sadly i gotta spend it on something more important than buying new gpu
Valheim is more CPU intensive than GPU so you could focus on that.
The new render scaling options should help too.
been using steam deck for resource hungry games. Been working out for me and doubles as hand held (I use it primarily like a PC plugged in to screen, mouse, keyboard and all)
the downside being that it mostly focuses of making games run on it and a lot of things that are not games simply do not work
really hoping that windows would get proper competition for non gaming use as well
Saw this tweet about Ashlands: ||https://twitter.com/Valheimgame/status/1778744623248122115||
And I came up with a version of Ring of Fire to go with it. Spoilered just in case:
||I had wooden walls by a fire
I was out, out, out
And the walls caught fire
And it ruined my house
The Ashlands fire
The Ashlands fire||
Well done.
Really like those red carpets. They are a great addition to the game. Unfortunately can't change the color
Keep up!
a whole hour late ๐ฆ
when are we getting ashlands? (I see a lot of updates regarding it)
I have seen that 7 months ago. So I assume nothing got clarified yet.
Finally got to try the latest patch last night. Loving the fast load times and increased framerates. ๐
And if they ask again later, say "No, not that corner, the other corner over there!"
1 corner per day, could be any corner now... well add 30 days for the test, but any day past about 30
Since they announced it, the corner has always been first half of this year, can't imagine that'll change.
does valheim has DLSS and if not, do they plan to implement it?
Anyone that cuts something in half with the intent of including corners is a monster.
But that's not remotely what I or they meant.
๐
So uhh when is the update going to be released?
First half of this year
How many Black cores do you guys get from your average Infested mine?
I usually find 0-3?
ah oke not so numerous as the normal cores in black forest
They can be but I never have any luck in this game
You can get really lucky with up to 5, but it's quite inconsistent
I think I've seen more than 5 before
but it's been a while since I was in mistlands
Just did a corpse run deep in mistlands. Devgrs mages had killed me. Those guys knew as soon as I got near from pretty far away. Luckily I drug 3 seekers to them and that allowed me to get my stuff back while they were busy
Welp, after dying to a one-shot from a lox bite and losing all my stuff AGAIM I think I'm done with hard mode. I just wanna enjoy the game
Carrying a tower shield is handy for that.
You let them bite u?
I shoot them from another postal code away and keep firing while backing away
Was trying to lure them to a tar pit
Only when i get blackmetal shield and sword did i start fighting it close range
I have only been bitten twice, all by fighting it close range
Correct. Black cores are less frequent than Surtling cores.
Cuz if i decide to fight it with bow, they are never gonna catch me
Yeah first time I've been bitten by one this playthrough.. Dunno what the number was but I had over 150 hp
2 same points to Moder in the same Frost cave.
Did you expect them to give you different Moder locations?
They resist slashing damage, you know... blackmetal atgeir goes brrrr
All vegevisirs point to the boss altar that is nearest to their location. They will never point to any others.
Waaaaiiiit... are you telling me the special attack of the Atgeir also counts as piercing damage?
That circular attack that is great for harvesting barley and flax is a piercing attack?!
Ayup. Check the wiki if you want. It staggers lox like no business. I usually do a hunter's bow to get the attention of just one, and when it gets close I switch to the atgeir. Can take down a herd in like, 3 minutes or less.
What do you guys think the strongest weapons will be in Ashlands? In my opinion, the Mistwalker and Staff of frost will be very effective, due to the frost damage and the fact that both are higher damage/Mistlands-tier items
Smiffe has confirmed that the Ashlands won't be an "all fire, all the time" affair, and that multiple weapons are going to be feasible
I'm going to have to assume something was lost in the translation from Old Nordic to modern English, because otherwise this would break my brain.
I know they say that; but I suspect that fire will still end up being a weak damage type there. If it isn't, I do have a Staff of embers built
@frigid gust You don't find a broadly sweeping attack being classified as 'piercing' over 'slashing' counter intuitive?
I agree this is kind of weird. I do like having multiple damage types, though
Wolves do slashing damage with their bites. The secondary attack of swords does slashing as well. It's just how it goes ๐
Which weapons do you guys think will be best in the Ashlands?
All of this screams of the fallacy of tradition. I clearly need to head back to the wiki, but I hate it.
I think it's more that a specific weapon does a consistent type of damage regardless of how it's used.
Would you prefer if different attacks produced different damage types, instead of the damage type being inherited from the weapon?
I'd prefer that damage types were inherently consistent with the physics of their attack animations.
๐ก
well like with a blade you can slash and pierce depending on how you use it and how it's made ... i dunno if a bite would ever be a slash but hey lol
I'm curious how people are preparing. I've actually been prepping by building and fully upgrading every single Mistlands-tier item, which has taken....quite a while ๐ฌ
that's how I'm doing it ๐ I haven't made a Krom or the Skol and Hati yet, but they've been low priority
Same, think all I need is the staff of frost? Not really interested in the skol/hati or atgeir (forgot the name)
Yeah, so sounds like you'd want the atgeir secondary to be slash, AKA inherited from the attack type.
Then the 1h sword secondary would be piercing, actually
My mian base is in the meadows, but I've definitely spent time putting a high-end base at the border of Ashlands.
Yeh, that sounds consistent.
the Himmnafl is the tits. Lightning damage is unresisted by anything, and it does a ton of stagger. Even a single thrust will stagger a seeker at my current skill levels with it (~40 or so)
Tits damage is blunt, yes?
could be piece depending on the armor and how they weild them
It's really nice, just a little expensive stam-wise to use. Also the SFX are pretty satisfying
Tits have sharp beaks and talons so I'd guess piercing.
idk what kind of tits ya'll are encountering
Let's not get into ornithology.
The more you use it the less stamina it takes ๐
And this is why not everyone has gif permissions... ๐
True. I just have one Himminafl upgrade left - it's pretty expensive. Looking forward to upgrading the Black Forge and Galdr Table - I have mats to cap upgrades on a bunch of items
That comment is the best way to make people click on the GIF link.
Yeah I'm at work, no thanks XD
I weighed that before saying anything ๐ It's SFW, but...
Get back to work! Do you think you're getting paid to spend time on Discord?
I currently am.
I'm at work too! But I work from home so there ain't nobody to complain looking over my shoulder at my personal machine ๐
Haha I'm actually waiting on a teammate to merge my last pull request. And hey, it's Friday ๐
Sorry, you didn't use the correct variable naming conventions. Denied.
D:
Yeah nah, not having that
Would you prefer the chicken? Our sincerest apologies.
I suppose if you're going to get pulled, it'll happen on a Friday.
...Hey gang, How about that Karve?! It's so maneuverable!
it is! I would use it over the longship if it had the same storage and speed
Longboat is plenty maneuverable, just gotta learn where it pivots ๐
IMO, black cores are too rare in the Mistlands. I actually had to scour two huge Mistlands just to get enough for my current run. What do you guys think?
did you try plugging your map into the viewer to see if you just missed a bunch of dungeons?
ello anyone have a good food combination for farming some juicy copper xD? im already at mistlands but i need enormous amount of copper now
Pro tip: Drive vehicles in GTA 5 before you try and pilot Longboats in Valheim.
I did - I didn't miss any
At least you got a ton of resources killing things
try another mistlands then sounds like a bad spot
You need the dvergr key pieces anyway, I think they're just about right. You can swap between different structures from the cores if you need to, until you have enough for them all at the same time
It was huge...I think I did about 10 Mistlands dungeons before I had enough black cores to build everything
I've seen people with the same experience on Reddit, but maybe I just got unlucky, too. I know the dungeon size was recently adjusted, maybe that helps
I ended up with a huge excess of those
oh i dunno except building i haven't played in months haha
True, I have PLENTY of carapaces, seeker meat, and even mandibles
You didn't go through those dungeons in the PTB release at all, did you?
Sounds to me that you expect life to be fair. It's not, accept it.
No, I only play unmodded and on fully released patches
And of course you're aware of the "hidden" doors and opened those
You mean the hidden doors with unmistakably glowing runes on them? ๐
that and the wooden ones you break through i imagine
Yeah, sounds like you just didn't sacrifice enough chickens to RNGesus
does give the "silent alarm activated!!!!" vibes
Bring it. I'd rather deal with seekers & ticks on the flat of the entry corridor than mess with circular stair-wells and stamina-draining doorway-blockers.
goodness playing on my very first world and im disgusted with how much stone i wasted to make a "tower"
๐ก Put a 'Helm's Deep' style horn at the entrance of every Infested Mine that just draws all the dungeon enemies to the horn.
You wasted it?
in a way yes its a gross hollow tower supported by trees
Success teaches us nothing. We learn from failure.
ashlands soon? :d
I believe this is your cue @exotic cradle
There will be a PTB period for Ashlands, so if you're really champing at the bit and don't mind possible bugs, you can go to id:customize and add yourself as a public tester so you can get notified when that hits
No more bugs, that was mistlands
Actually no, but why not? I kill she already
Speaking of which, I have counted 4 on the character select screen. I don't think there are any others ๐
It's proximity-based. There's maybe 5-6 locations for each of the bosses across the entire map and the vesvigirs alwys point to the closest one.
Each boss has a different set number of altars. I think the Queen is 6, Elder is 4, Eikthyr is 3, etc.
I'm not gonna lie - I'm tempted to jump into the Ashlands via the PTB. It would also be helping Iron Gate squash bugs & glitches. But, it's probably best to wait.
Given how much polishing theyโve done my guess is itโll be mostly balance
So itโll either be too hard or too easy for the community like mistlands was ๐. I loved first release mistlands. Insta death was hilarious
I think they learned from that and will have it more dialed in ๐
I think they added difficulty settings and shouldnโt give af if people say itโs too hard
Hilarity is not quite as much the attraction when the mechanical impact of death is to have you hard-earned Fishing skill drop from 80 to 76; that's a hard grind back.
Sure. But in general it shouldn't be a huge jump, it should be a progression from the Mistlands.
Based on the discussions they released with the devs, it'll be the hardest biome yet
I didnโt experience mistlands before the tweaking, but I do know that high damage doesnโt equal difficulty. Or at least, not good difficulty.

I get the impression that Mistlands varied in difficulty dependant on players' play style. If you were stamina-reliant, Mistlands was brutal, for example.
Wish I couldโve experienced it before the balancing, just so I couldโve formed my own opinion- wouldโve been fun!
Well, if you don't manage it sanely it still is. I think that's a lot of people's issues with it, they run everywhere instead of walking.
Yeah, I appreciate that part of the mistlands- I like when difficulty is more about the player paying attention and getting punished for lack of preparation for example.
Honestly, after spending a fair bit of time in the mist-cleared area by my new base, I have a new appreciation for the mist. The Mistlands just aren't that dangerous without it.
I don't care what the balancing was, I hate Mistlands. Every other biome introduced a reasonable number of challenges. Then, all of a sudden, I can't see, the terrain makes attacking anything a chore (both through stamina and the lack of vertical hit-boxes), and the majority of your enemies can navigate the terrain better that you. Seeker hit range is inexplicably longer than player hit range. Gjall can see you in the mist before you can see them. There's more, but rant over.
Gjall can't see you if you don't have your wisplight enabled ๐
almost like it was designed to be difficult
It's artifically difficult. It's clearly a biome designed to slow player progress while the devs work on the next stage.
for me it's a brave move to cover a brand new place you spent ages working on in a mist you can't see it in, i hated it on Faxanadu, it's not much better in this game xD but at least it has purpose
Huh. I haven't really found it that difficult. I mean, it's harder than the Plains for sure, but it's nowhere near insurmountable, at least on normal difficulty for a mid-40s oldster ๐
I think itโs difficult, but I donโt find it to be artificial. You just have to very cautious and think about every move you make.
I'm not saying it's insurmountable. I have several bases in The Mistlands, and all I'm really doing in leui of the Ashlands release is exploring Mistlands. My point is that, as a game, the previous biomes established a difficulty curve, and an expectation; then Mistlands flipped players the middle finger.
The starred enemies do some crazy damage!
they mentioned ashlands would be harder, i think it's intended if it works out that way
I hope Ashlands enemies are difficult in a sense of advanced movesets and maybe even some defensive options.
Lots of people feel the same way about the Swamps. I honestly don't think it's anything absurd. I like that even after "conquering" it I still have a feeling of fear there at night.
I'm just anticipating that the Mistlands will feel like the Plains does now after entering and establishing a foothold in the Ashlands
I would love some cool movesets
Yeh, for sure! Make us negotiate new enemy mechanics, new magic spells, etc. Just don't be so lazy as to make the biome hard because I've used most of my stamina traversing some crystalline nightmare just in time to encounter a seeker soldier.
Yeah... that's the stamina management piece. Plus magic turns that on it's head, there's no stamina used to fire the spells so it becomes a completely different playstyle.
I like how enemies attacks are different, obviously what makes it unique and not boring, and Iโm hoping the ashlands will have a lot to introduce
And I hope we can get eitr without having to eat so much foods
I tell you what, the Mistlands really captured the feeling of a Palmetto bug coming right at you ๐
Mistlands are honestly perfect. As a pretty experienced gamer, it is definitely hard, but not difficult or impossible
well not quite perfect, some wastage in the POI's but that's small pickings
But itโs also beautiful, very unique from biomes, such as the boss biome (ofc) the new mines โdungeonsโ and how you have to get some items to progress
What's the difference between hard and difficult?
And dvergr outposts vary in looks too
I mean I feel like mistlands was a massive leap in difficulty from plains
Difficult would be hrd to progress with problems along the way, hard is manageable with a few problems.
Definitely was
I expect Ashlands to be a similar leap in ways we donโt anticipate
indeed
I like that it feels like the gameplay I had to figure out to manage the Mistlands is applicable to the rest of the game, and has made all the other biomes almost easy mode.
We havenโt had a biome where the terrain itself is actively trying to kill you on top of the mobs
for me Swamp gets a 5/10 difficulty leap, and Mistlands like 8/10
I feel like a small step in difficulty at this level would be bad & boring, so Ashlandโs will 100% be a big leap in difficulty too.
Sealed Tower is the closest we have so far
if Ashlands hits 9/10 it's perfect
Makes me feel like the deep north will just have a random lightning bolt that insta kills you for no reason lmao
"Thor was bored"
Now that you mention it, itโs very much possible ๐
Listen, if you have a character who has great skill levels that you love. Donโt bring it to Ashlands.
thor thought it would be fun
I feel like deep north will maybe have a stronger frost effect, so maybe weโll need frost resistance twice as much maybe. Unlikely now that I say it, but think about it
My guess is itโll have a frost effect you canโt do anything about
we'll need to bring lox to survive at night and they'll smell worse on the inside
viking turned snowdrift
I'm ngl - after playing through it myself and seeing many reactions on Reddit, it does seem like the Mistlands was overtuned. I wonder if nerfing its difficulty would increase the overall health of the game
Iโm thinking polar bears will come to deep north, then weโll need their hide to make new armor, or something like that with another enemy
The only place you can survive in deep north will be a train you have to jump on that circles the biome
It was already nerfed ๐
I would like some polar bears
For one, I think the feather cape should be craftable much sooner
Or like just huge bears
Absolutely. As of the fact that polar bears are so powerful and all, and big in real life too, i feel like it would make sense for them to have 1.5k hp-2k hp
Like elden ring rune bear type shi
With 200 slash damage ๐
I just want harder enemies
Naah. Feather cape makes the Mistlands traversal trivial. I ran a couple loads of blackmetal like 2km in a day with it, in just fenris with a root chest, HSS food. I think it's really balanced amazingly well all things considered.
I don't think you guys realise how far above the mean of the normal curve of Valheim players you are. Apart from the occasional obvious question from new players that needs a simple redirection, the vast majority of the Discord server are all (at the very least) beyond the first standard deviation above the mean. It's pretty reasonable to presume at least 67% of players are less skilled than everyone in this channel.
Actually the fact that deep north is the last biome, polar bear would have a base hp of 2k-2.5k
B-b-b-buh big bear๐ญ
You're probably right tho
Bro the middle finger? It's over.
That's why it's billed as a brutal survival game, and there are now difficulty sliders ๐
I think thereโs people who like to build and donโt learn the mechanics, and people who like adventure and the mechanics.
And a smaller group like me who do both
i always advocate strongly for the casual player
Idk how people do hardcore no map no portal 0.5x rescource at the hardest mode. i canโt even.
The casual player has been given difficulty levels to make their life easier. And even I play on 3x now because I have a life
I can see it, but I don't have that kinda gaming time...
If a boar can one shot me in the beginning Iโm kinda good.
No map would be too much for me
No portals just too time consuming
But i see why they do it
Same, the grind needed for it is absurd
I like no map a lot
Absolutely, I canโt imagine how I can do no portal and no map
It just takes time
Ig you could draw your own but unless you're like a valheim fanatic idk about that
And a piece of paper to draw your map on haha
a question the ore deposits didnt collabsed when i digged all around it and under it did they change it or no??
Which ore
Anyhoo. I tried. Night all! Have a great weekend.
no change
Audios(adios)
Itโs actually not that hard. You use the workbench as a compass and you get a massive sheet of paper on a table behind your computer desk then a little ship toy to place on the paper to mark your position and you draw the landmasses you see as you sail by against the position of the compass
That involves real world effort
Youโd be surprised how easily you navigate once you have a rough idea what things look like
ty
the hitboxes are large, anything connected to an underground piece needs mining out more (since it's classed as receiving support)
(you can't check this as they are invisible unfortunately)
(both the hitboxes and the underground pieces past the dig limit)
best practice is to take out the lowest hanging pieces when you've got that far, it will pop eventually
is this game worth buying
Depends who's buying.
There are very discord servers for games that wouldn't just straight up say "yes" and not elaborate
no bears will be added iirc thats what the devs said
Don't want to overhype it for you, but IMO Valheim is one of the best games ever made
That's pretty hype.
Tends to be already full of people that like the game, but would you like the game? If you like building, if you enjoy adventuring and you enjoy combat that doesn't hold your hand, very likely yes
It's best with friends, I recommend starting off with a 2-4 person crew
It's not dark souls kind of hard, but still more challenging than most games these days
If you like building, solid combat, and preparation leading to success, yes. It's very much a game that rewards preparation and planning and harshly punishes going in half-cocked.
Eh, disagree.
To each his own. I play both solo and with friends. My friends lost interest when we ran out of new content - they'll be back for Ashlands
meanwhile a friend of mine hasn't touched it yet becuase he's afraid of early access
there's people out there that refuse to buy early access games no matter what
D: it'll be a while for him, then. Isn't Iron Gate's plan to be early access until the Deep North is released?
yup... the game is already well worth the price, was even 2 years ago
same happened with DRG. I played it early on, noticed it's really damn good, recommended it to that same friend and... never played it. Now years later it came out of early access and wonders why I didn't recommend it earlier ๐
Nothing wrong with that. A large number do eventually amount to nothing.
Until the game is finished, yes.
some do it by design too after charging for expansions and stuff
there's massive difference between a promising game and a game that is already good
seen only 1 or 2 games that completely ruined a good game in early access
The survival genre is rife with it.
Nice addition with the fire spreading IG! How will vikings deal with putting out fires though?
buldings on fire?
which ones?
not on my watch ๐
was asking if it's building on fire when you mentioned fire spreading
Yes.
yes, definetly not seagulls on fire!
could have been just a forest
that would also be cool but I don't see them doing that
maybe that's what happens if you leave a fire in forest now too
i just need a picture of a viking handling a fire hose
but it was a building we got shown
imagine that was water
too much pixels, can't handle that, sorry
if buildings start being at risk of burning down because of a misplaced campfire or something like that, or other similar accidents, this discord will become quite massive salt mine
well. the logic until now is "valheim is a game meant to be played with friends" everytime server chars or anti cheat is talked about, so...
the building screenshot channel will definately need to be renamed
"charred remains exhibit"
everytime a raven lands on a building, Odin is baiting you
"the Ash pile"
imo valheim is a game that's best* on its own AND/OR* played with friends - having people along for the ride definitely makes certain things easier, and a good crew is always fun to play with, but doing it all on your own has its own merits, rewards, and boons. only got to worry about one person for sneaking, only got to worry about one set of equipment, you always get to pick where you wanna go, what you wanna do etc.
it would be hilarious if you manage to protect your base from your enemies, but not from yourself
currently probably the worst thing you can do to your own building is delete that 1 piece supporting large portion of your building without thinking
or multiple of them since there is that nice 1 second delay to start that chain reaction
Do you guys think the wood burning feature will be triggerable outside of the Ashlands?
good point, probably not considering their wording "In the Ashlands...."
OHHHH, ohhh... HAHA. I think I know what will happen to some people
https://twitter.com/Valheimgame/status/1778748480057688249
Only in the Ashlands per default! But if you should desire some more chaos, there'll be a setting for that ๐ฅ
I wonder how we'll protect the workbench, then? Or will the workbench be non-flammable?
you know how most people who's up to date on that update would move their stuff from Ashlands if for some reason have made a base there? Well... a lot of people don't bother to keep up with the news. Imagine when somebody logs in to their Ashlands base that was made before that change
current builds on ashlands will most likely be destroyed on loading ashlands update
the burning will ensure there's nothing left if it somehow survives
I thought that explored Ashlands would remain the same, only unexplored Ashlands would be populated with the actual biome
I guess wooden builds will just burn down, potentially
biome distribution of ashlands will change, that includes height and stuff. my guess is builds will be mostly destroyed or even yeeted from existance
lol RIP
even stuff near the edge of ashlands since it will be completely disconnected from rest of the map, no more ashlands land bridge from a safer biome
I wonder if our ships survive landing there...
Damn, good point. Or what about portals? They're wooden, too!
portal not mounted on stone/marble? ๐ฅ
Imagine landing and being disconnected from everything you've built and gathered thus far in the game
Maybe, can't wait to see what challenges await in ashlands
I'm looking forward to seeing my base catch fire because lightning hit my roof, if thats how it work
Can you imagine a seed where you have a contiguous line from north to south, connecting both the far north and the ashlands, and then you have to get to the stone age before everything you can build is put to flames?
lol, like a world-scale fuse
ashlands update will make it so that can never happen
since ashlands will be surrounded by an ocean 100% of the time, no land bridges
make it so
But what if we changed the settings ๐ค
there's currently no world settings for generation?
I'd like to see some world generation settings implemented after north update
I know, but the mental image of it all still inspires me to dream.
engage
no ocean for example, would offer own kind of challenge. transporting stuff by the ocean is far more convenient than cart
as long as the wind wills it...
Ocean life:
But what if you attached a sail to the cart and then -
where would all the serpents go
Hear me out...
and what would populate the Ocean bed? i can't see the devs custom making a workable biome out of it
Dune Worms, but Valheim
desert instead of ocean
Atlantis was down there all along
Also, I just discovered today just how much more difficult the very hard mode is for combat.
if the devs were to give that option they'd be obligated to fill it like all the other biomes
otherwise top complaint would be: why is the desert biome empty?
why is desert a desert?
pointless to have a completely empty area
that's basically what an ocean is already
Ocean hasn't been fully completed yet, and already has levi's, serpents, and soon bonemaw serpents also
and fish
For Hel's sake I did it again. Sailed all the way to hildir and realised I forgot to bring gold only upon arrival
I hope you're not doing a "no portal" run either.....
On this world, yes...
time to make another base lol
Guess that means you need to do a "Rod Steward". ๐
I do love sailing in Valheim, really, so I don't mind much normally, but ffs I had plans tonight haha
go back a world save!
Ah well, could drop off the fuling's chest so it wasn't for naught
Ah, but you forgot the hidden game setting #1:
If the player has plans, let the Sadistic Number Generator mess those up and have him / her doing something else.
I think I'll just keep sailing into the grey areas and see what I find
That's how I explored the BF near Haldor and the Swamp with Bonemass spawn I encountered the past two days.
My plan was to set up a small portal base near those two locations and extract iron.
Turned out I was fighting a 2** troll, boar and neck, a whole load of 1* skeletons and draugrs archers and regular fighters, multiple Draugr Elite, some ghosts, a wraith, two abominations, countless skeletons, leeches and blobs.
And up to now I only got ONE iron scrap which dropped from an Oozer.......
But the exploration was fun though.
And I do have the "luck" of being able to use portals. ๐
Now, a bit of feedback to our venerable dev team - Hildir could have been a much more rewarding thing if, in addition to the peasant clothes, she'd do recolouring or even cosmetic rashaping of your gear. For example - I love the look of the iron set while the carapace armor looks pretty meh to me, I'd love to just make my carapace look like an iron set. Or turn that ugly blackmetal sword into a sweet silver blade, etc etc. It's been said before so I won't be pestering the suggestions channel with it again. Just sayin'
I donโt think changing the color of things is in their vision. They want the game to look mostly cohesive-so theyโd have to limit the colors a lot to keep the game not feeling like palworld
Yeah, I was thinking available colours would be what you can already find in the game, to not break the spell kinda
grungy colors.
I might actually use the troll set if I could dye it grey or brown. I actually like the look of the leather set, but you never ever wear that except a few wee hours when you're a newb
something wrong with looking like a smurf?
Guess that depends at the kind of smurf you look after.
I s'pose @exotic cradle doesn't want to look like Papa Smurf, just like I won't like to look like Smurfette......
hey whats a good way to hunt for drakes so you can get freeze glands?
..what
Shoot arrows at them.
i mean i know that, is there a good way to find them other than just exploring the mountains tho
This:
Spugelo - Atgeir gang โ vandaag om 21:29
something wrong with looking like a smurf?
But why tag me D:?
Because I doubt you like it to look like Papa Smurf.
..what it
I just killed moder for the first time and i think he was the easiest boss to beat lol. He just stood and stared at me while i bonked him with my iron mace
moder be a she, FYI
yeah, she is quite often bugged ๐
Well done I suppose! A win is a win!
I tried running away from her cause my bow broke and she chased me all the way to meadows and got all glitchy. So I finished her with an iron axe
Just had a facepalm moment. While you cant teleport metals, are there problems with getting an inventory full of iron then logging out and going from your iron mining world to your main one which brings you back to where you last were(your base)?
the classic strategy called world hoping, before the hildir update that brought world modifiers it was quite popular way to transport metals without using a boat
Yeah, it was a pretty popular work-around before modifiers.
Sorry have question is stone buildings are last ones you can unlock or there is something more without dlc
there will be more ๐ just progress further
There is a new material in Mistlands and we'll get more in Ashlands.
@pliant hatch @merry pebble thank you..
Dw thereโs no dlc you need to buy
I think the only โdlcโ is the soundtrack on steam
I just noticed your name, and I gotta ask how
jump ๐ and punch
the only DLC rtn is the closed beta one that the closed beta participants got
in the mountains? gonna have to have "dream on" playing in the background
Welp i just checked it was something Odin cape related not sure so I was just wondering
what DLC did the closed beta participants get?
More likely Jump by VanHalen or Jump by the Pointer Sisters....
what Deimis said
Jump around - House of Pain
nah, i'd been falling off lol. can't count the number of times i've lost my spear throwing it at drakes
thats very..... unsmart
Get that cape from Mistlands and you'll put "One day I'll fly away" on repeat. ๐
throwing your spear at flying enemies is a pretty good way of losing a spear
you'd think i'd have learned after the first dozen times
And in case you miss-jump: Gloria Gainor's "I will survive".
especially on a mountain
is the porcupine club a good weapon?
idd guess its not bad cause its a mace and maces are generally not bad
is frostner better then?
Mmm not really ๐ Frostner is better imo
yea, frostner just OP
unless its against a golem, then its just very long to kill one
Porcupine is a good combination of blunt and pierce damage; but Frostner will outclass it, simply because of the combination of frost and spirit damage.
I saw on the wiki that the sea serpent only spawns in night or rain with x2 chance in both. Yet I mostly see them in the middle of the day. Is the wiki wrong?
also, i misspelled unnecessarily so badly that discord didnt even know what word it was but knew it was spelled wrong
serpents stay after a storm spawned them
Nope.
The ones spawning at nights disappear, the ones spawning in a storm will remain at daytime.
I almost prefer Frostner over the Mistwalker because of the knockback. It really helps you avoid taking damage
hey everyone
minding your own business on a mountain is the best way to attract them
man i'd love a steam points shop for some cool profile backgrounds
maybe once the devs officially release Valheim theyโll add themed profile customizations (and achievements๐ค)
That's the plan. They don't want to add them until 1.0, that way everyone starts on an even level (and they have some stats about what people do most/least in the game, too)
man i wish they add more soft tissue sources
i am running around mistland like headless chicken because i jsut cant get enough soft tissue
same
i think as of now i only got 46 soft tissues
all of it i turned to eitr and made weapons with it, and i still need more
Giving more sources of something doesn't necessarily mean you'll find it faster
Iron has multiple sources and still remains a tedious metal to get
once you find a chain of 12-15 crypts youโll be set
Same as copper, and even more the main source of copper is highly abundant, even small bf could have at least several
I'm actually off to find more iron as we speak...
just depends where you land, once you find a chain of 12-15 skulls you'll be set, lol
A single skull should give you 50-60 soft tissue
Two or three more should get you all eitr gear + most if not all upgrades.
It's another story if you use it for building (like ballistas) tho
sure but maybe increase the frequency of soft tissue, like maybe more skulls in an area, instead of increasing the maximum cap then
i am in bargain phase of 5 stages of emotion, yknow, any improvement that influences soft tissue drop rate is fine by me
im probably going to look real stupid for this but i gotta ask
are there krakens in the game or is it a mod ?
i was looking at images of leviathans and saw it and it looked so cool ๐ญ
well there is leviathan, only that it is passive creatures
If I were to choose a way to "fix" that issue, it would be by making each node drop at least one soft tissue.
Sometimes you mine one or two and get none.
Honestly all node-based resources should be like that...
Especially iron
Morning
the biggest mistlands grind is going around scouring the mist for for untouched skulls to get enough flesh to get like 6-7+ ,more stacks of tissue so you can upgrade mistlands gear once that 4th upgrade station finally drops. needing 24 for the level 4 staves will not be fun. to find enough skulls for that
very true. I love hearing that poof when the raven pops into existence in the mist.
Get a bit extra for potential Ashlands recipes ๐
I feel like ||lvl 4 staff of protect and fire staff arenโt worth it much tho||
ooze bomb > fuling village
Will we get lvl 4 mistlands items by ashalnds release?
More than likely, yes
We just got new crafting stations in the Mistlands, getting more upgrades for them in the next biome is pretty expected
In the next biome? Every biome up until now we've been able to upgrade all gear from that biome to lvl 4 without resources from the biome after.
Are you saying we'll need ashlands resources to upgrade the galdr table and black forge to it's final level?
Thanks for responding btw, please don't mistake my surprise for rudeness โค๏ธ
You need to go to the swamp or another higher biome to get quality 4 bronze gear sooo
Wait really?
Yep
I've been in mistlands so long I haven't played black forest in ages lol
There's only 2 bronze age forge upgrades and in order to get quality 4 bronze weapons you need a third forge upgrade
Well!
Which usually comes from chains or the stonecutter, as they are the cheapest option, but they are both swamp tier progression upgrades
Fair enough!
4/5 of the first 5 biomes can fully upgrade their gear in biome then.
Or am I wrong about that too?
I mean, can't fully upgrade troll armor and root armor in the biome you originally obtain them in, same goes for capes but ye
Capes are kinda a write off tho cause they're only 1 armor per upgrade
Fair
But ye the big one is just bronze tools not being able to be fully upgraded in the age you get them originally, as it's the best comparison to the mistlands items
So all of black forest gear, some of the swamp gear
you can't upgrade all the meadows stuff to full right away either
