Renovating an abandoned village and build a wall around it is simple and efficient.
Flip it! Valheim style.
Even better if it's a big one... just probably have to evict current tenants
I'd love it if we could 'renovate' buildings that would attract particular mobs to an area.
build small wooden boxes to attract cats to the area
oh... well tis no joke but why not birb houses?
I'll takes some pics when I'll get back at my place. I'm at the swamp level technology, so I'm thinking of building my own castle, next to a swamp.
it would be very unfortunate if somebody were to have an arrow ready to be released
That's why I bring the required materials to setup a full level 7 forge and level 5 workshop with me Everytime I set out for the next biome and forward operating base.
Only trouble I normally have, is hauling everything up the mountains for that F.O.B.
The arbalest has something to say about that
do they target birds?
Yes indeed. They're also an amazing 'sniper rifle' for clearing Fuling Villages at a distance.
How much cargo space does the longship have?
By the way. Steps of overcoming trolls with timeline by Kirk Legacy
Run away
Later
Win your first hard battle with a crude bow
Later
Hit and run with a Fine Bow and drink some Tasty Mead
Later
Eat three health food and tank it hard
Later
Kill it casually with a spear and iron shield
damn nice, unfortunately there's no bird trophy... but with right setup not a problem
The most.
You could just make a flint knife or spear and skip the run away part
final step: destroy it with an Atgeir, give no chance to fight back
Like a Dark Soul fight?
Is it ok to ask about mods in here?
You forgot "kite it to an abomination and eat some popcorn"
ty
Man, if Valheim bosses were on par with a 'souls' game, I might be spending more time in Deep Rock Galactic.
Not really, dark souls fights are hard
Dark Souls is the epitome of difficult boss fights.
Just beating your head against a brick wall til you come out victorious
I think I'm too much vanilla in personality to think of such elaborate plans. ๐
Kill Eikthyr to make a pickaxe...OR...troll it.
Vanilla might be a little bland in itself, but there's always the opportunity to add sauce. ๐
I like the vanilla philosophy of Valheim
It's rough around the edge, but it makes sense to me
Oh yeh, me too. I just meant to suggest that you can add some spice at your whim if you want.
I thought a troll vs an abomination would be like an epic godzilla vs mechagodzilla battle...turns out it really isn't ๐ฆ
I played with friends since the came officially came out. It was just a little after Deep Rock, right?
Had plenty of chance to try spices
I was playing with friends some months earlier. Like, we get "in the mood" once in a while.
Building really large between a Meadows and Black Forest sucks though
I feel you. The 'same biome mobs' have no issue with one another (not entirely, but, you know, shut up!) and the biomes ramp in such a way as to make any threat in the last biome pretty trivial in the next one.
Maybe a 2 star troll vs abomination?
Once you get to the stage where you can make major healing mead, the only use left for dandelions is making banners. Or feeding the chickens.
can't speak for how rare those resources for major healing mead are and how many other recipes share the same resources, but I'd probably still use medium healing mead if major one isn't necessary
Resources for major are plentiful once you get going in Mistlands. I see zero reason to use the lesser healing mead instead.
I think we might have to consider strengths and weaknesses. For example, Stone Golems actually deal chop damage that might provide a threat to Abominations. And Abominations deal pickaxe damage to which Golems are weak. Valheim deathmatches need some thought.
a mod for turning all damage types to neutral that ignores resistances and weaknesses would probably make the comparision more fair
but no clue if there is even a mod for that
And much less fun to consider.
I'm pretty sure the abomination hits harder than the troll naturally...I'm just not sure if it is the same or more than the scaling of a 1 or 2 starred troll...only one way to find out!
Yagluth beats the queen in a fight. I edited the games files to make every enemy attack every other enemy (bosses are usually friendly to all enemies)
I think the queen could win inside her arena though
Of course, influences may change depending on if you kite the troll to the swamp or the abomination to the forest...
Abomination in the forest is pretty awesome. Do you need core wood? Copper and stone?
It's kind of funny how this age old important question gets asked again and again... which boss is the strongest in 1v1?
If yagluth can beat the queen, itโs probably him, but moderโs flight would help her avoid most attacks. I might test this more in future
Ooh, that's interesting! Nice one! Though, I'm only thinking from the perspective of the player. I couldn't kite The Queen to go fight Yagluth in normal play. So, I was thinking more about the mobs that inhabit the world in general.
Sent screenshots like I said I would in it's appropriate channel
I have a cool tip for you.
You can build bee hives on the roof of your buildings. It's a great way to save some space.
I have seventeen hives on the roof of my base.
Oh yeah! I did it once with friends. Lodsa buzzing trying to sleep though. ๐
Deathsquitos are great for inducing reeeeaaally long periods of 'sleep'. ๐
Although, I'm going blind in a future project. Never played Single Player and gone beyond the Black Forest (Bronze Age). I have access to stone buildings and my village is too small for my needs now.
I thought I need:
-A mead hall for Rested
-A Portal room
-Specialized Workbench and Forge
I'm not even sure everything need to be in the same spot. And I thought of building it next to a swamp.
...I hope I'll make the right choice for spot and constructions... I want it the Valheim way too
I set up a portal room pretty early. I've also got four 'portal hubs' at the main compass points. I still have a main base, but I make sure that it's easily accessible through portals. I don't think you can be maximally effective moving from remote base to remote base.
Ooooooh! Main portals + sub portals?! (Just like in FFXIV)
My main base portal room has ~35 portals, and I've set up remote portal hubs at the main compass points that have ~9-12 portal each.
A portal next to the bosses trophy circle too?
Hell yes! One of the first portals I ever built was to access the Circle that gives player buffs.
One of the things a lot of players do - or did - was mining out the area under The Elder's altar and use that as portal hub.
The influence of the altar fire reaches even down, giving you a rested status the moment you enter it.
And with using it, you only need to have one portal at your main base; which makes things looking quite fancy. (Not to mention, not having to bother with portals activating the moment you walk close to them all the time)
Other's use it as a combination of portal hub and chicken pen.
I found the underside of the Elder portal very damp. My armour rusted faster and the smell was like living in a plant nursery.
I'm never sure, in this server, whether my jokes have been misconstrued, or if there were just no responders active at the time of posting.
~~If you don't get any response to your joke, you are the joke. ~~
My brain is far too fried this early in the morning to comprehend jokes.
Duuuude.
Yay a response \o/
I'm equal parts appalled and impressed.
Do I really need to adorn my name with the pink flowers to be noticed?
Nah.
The ones without those pink flowers will become the minority, which will make them stand out between the pink flowers and the green newbie thingy.
Which shows they are the special ones. ๐
Question - Is anyone else putting effort into building bases at the border of Ashlands in anticipation of the expansion?
Not really.
I'm expecting the map to change a bit; just like it did after Mistlands became available.
Which may make it harder to access that base as well.
I'm not talking about encroaching into the Ashlands. I was thinking more about pre-empting a need and building a base (in the adjacent biome) from which to launch your Ashlands incursion.
I'm aware of that.
But just check a seed in the different builds at the Valheim world generator.
You'll see that the biomes change in size and shape with each build and especially when Mistlands was released that area increased a lot in size.
Which means that other island had to shrink to fit the Mistlands in.
I'm expecting that to happen with the Ashlands as well; meaning anything close to it may have to deal with a changed environment too.
Fair enough. I concede to your knowledge. Thanks for the clarifiaction. ๐
keeping tamed lox in the base is not a good idea, it keeps running around and damaging my structures
i thought it'be obvious for well, obvious reasons
i know it is obvious but the base was big, and i thought it won't run around that often
it is so big that whenever a raid happens when i am inside the house, just walking outside of the base already put me off the raid radius
Yeah sadly the only way to keep them from rampaging is to spawn proof a large surrounding area
which means my base is pretty raid safe, they can't even get through
That is good ๐ฅฐ
in theory, in reality it works in the detriment of my wolf army, and also there are certain raids i want to happen
like sure i want to sit out on raids like bats, troll attack, blob attack, surtling attack but i don't want to when i see Zilch and Thug raid
You just broke my brain... How do you follow "In theory" with "in reality"
Oh, I see. That requires a full-stop (period), not a comma.
woops i had fallen asleep lol. ๐ i always thought the abomination did poison damage - as in, it bit you with it's mouth ๐ค because when you see it, swamp mud drips from it's body as it walks, so i thought that it was poisonous, as in it infects you with disease ๐ค
You need to try the dexamphetamines that keep me glorious.
lol no thanks
Whoxawhatamines
I s'pose it was about vitamines.
You know, from raspberries, blueberries, cloudberries, carrots, turnips and the like.
i managed to lure the abom onto flat land and killed it with campfires ๐ฅณ
Didn't have any surtling spawn nearby?
So you got different loot for the price of one.
pretty much ๐ฅณ
I hope you've marked that spot on your map, so you can do it again when that abomination has respawned.
is it really true that valheim server got hacked about 3 months ago?
The discord server were, yes.
so it is true
wow
The fact that the afterlife can be hacked says a lot about it being supernatural.
I hate how mage cap is so abundant in mistlands while jotun puff is a rarer find
I think that's kinda how a lot of vegetable food items work.
I dont farm mage cap and i still have more mage caps than farmed jotun puff
puffs can be farmed, probably that's why?
Jotun puffs can be planted.
I know, but i am just saying that it is rarer to come by the jotun puff
Once you have found one, the rest is up to you.
Like give me more jotun puff so i can mass farm them instead of planting 3, harvest, replant them again, harvest, and then replant them again to be able to reap a significant crop yield
Meadows: Lots of raspberries, red mushroom hard to find.
Black Forrest: Lots of Yellow musroom, enough blueberries, but red mushroom again hard to find.
Swamp: thistle easy to find, turnip seeds barely found
Mountain: noting to find at all.
Plains: Cloudberries are easy to find, flax and barley in villages only.
eh... 1 turnip was more than enough to snowball it reasonably quickly
That sounds exactly how we all grew carrots, turnips, and onions.
Yeah, but to find that one turnip, however.
Do a swamp run and you'll return home with more thistle as turnip seeds.
each one turns to 3
Iโm actually really surprised that Jotun Puffs and Magecaps are plantable. They seem more like foragables to me. And getting 3 from one planted crop, thatโs pretty wild lol.
you can plant magecaps?
With all that farming in mind, why would you want to be a vegetarian?! Chomp down on a boar, wolf, or seeker! ๐
wonder if they'll add more farmable food in next Ashlands. MMm... spicy chili
All biomes so far beyond Meadows has at least one farmable crop, so I expect Ashlands will have as well.
Ashlands ||I really think weโre going to see peppers||
Surtling jerky! Some health and stamina, but it also gives you fire resistance.
Frost resistance would be more likely, as it keeps you warm.
Yes, they just have to be grown in the Mistlands. Same goes for Joton Puffs
well guess will be investing a bit more in building a base in Mistlands beyond just having a secure portal deeper in for body recovery
I think it would be neat if those crops could grow in the Black Forest, but I understand why they canโt.
First solo swamp crypt (2nd crypt ever) and there is a 2star elite draugr here
Luckily I didn't fully break the iron so I am just cheesing him, but he takes so little dmg, couldn't imagine fighting him
Are you using a bow to take him out?
Hopefully you get his trophy!
Yep, just shot him thru some iron, no shot I am fighting him
If you think about going toe-to-toe with him, use an axe.
I noticed my bronze axe did more damage to Draugr as a mace does.
Guess it's one of those days.
Wouldn't surprise me if there's a spawner nearby.
Do you hear flies buzzing near that area?
Oh ye I hear that
What's the strat, rush in? too scared to die
Take that archer out first.
You may want to use your bow to farm for entrails for a while, before breaking that mud-wall and rush in.
Just make sure that if you decide to rush in, you do that after you just ate your food to benefit from the maximum health and stamina you get from that.
Another valid tactic; break that mud-wall, equip the bow and retreat.
That way they have to come at you one by one, making it easier for you to pick them off. Or to melee them.
I just tested all possible boss 1v1s. The only boss that can beat a boss from a later biome is yagluth, who can beat the queen.
I s'pose those meteor showers make him pretty strong against her?
And his pierce resistance. He still had half of his health. I think moder could beat the queen if she gets lucky with the attacks she uses, her flying projectile attack does a ton of damage.
Hmmmm.
And to think I cheesed Yagluth twice, but hated the fight against the Queen more as the one against him.
Will they break eventually (after I kill a bunch) or will I have to break it myself?
You will have to break that pile of corpses that spawns Draugr yourself.
But it's pretty weak, so a few hits with a sword will do.
In general, the moment you rush in and start swinging like a mad man you may hit any Draugr that spawns as well as that pile of corpses.
When I did that, it's the pile that's gone before the Draugr do.
And assuming you got some sort of shield, use that to protect against the Draugr's attacks.
What kind of armor and shield are you using anyway?
Using root helm, cp + iron leggings, shield and sword are maxed bronze
Maxed bronze shield is the same as t1 iron I think
What food are you using?
That's actually better as what I had when facing a similar threat.
So if you make sure you got maximum food and stamina and the occassional potions under a hot-key you're good.
Sauges, turnip stew and black stew (or whatever it's called)
You'll be fine
I skill issue
What's the worst that can happen? you die while improving your combat skills?
Got stamina and health potions under a hot-key?
Yep
How should I time it in terms of last time an enemy spawned
Then you're good to go. Break that wall, retreat the moment they attack, kill the ones attacking you and rush in to deal with that pile of corpses
Also is it in the same room as the mobs or can it be like 1 room near it
The room's in a crypt?
Very likely the same room
Ye
I hate this. A death undoes signicantly more progress than it was worth, IMO.
I meant how good kyren is at the game, not the in-game skill numbers
i was stuck at level 60 with many of my skills cause i kept dying just as i reached the point i died at last time to stupidity
Only if that death was by your own foolishness.
Like falling off roof of a building you're constructing, without having been eating for a while.
Death in fights are a learning experience; telling you to adjust your tactics to make sure it won't happen again next time.
worst past was, i was silver tier, fully upgraded wolf armor and died to stupidity in meadows and blackforest but not one death in the mountains
Donโt know if Iโll ever my run skill get to 100 due to how often I die lol
got it to level level 70, died
and well, havent gotten it up again
You assume that we learn. Some days we just get cocky and venture too close to that Fuling village.
Oh I got it, it was in the same room under me
I've only died once in mountains. I was being hunted for the first time and was parrying 4-5 wolves until my stamina ran out, because my buckler couldn't block them and I didn't know I should've been more aggressive.
I don't think I got the trophy from the elite draugr
Well done!
Time to gather all that loot and continue mining for iron.
I just died trying to trap a stone golem. Right as I broke the floor beneath him he still managed to get a swing out and one shot me
Are you playing a high difficulty?
Shame, but you'll get more opportunities for it.
I think in my last game I had to kill 6-7 elite before I got that trophy.
Compared to my first crypt this one has so much more loot even tho it had only 1 initial opening
I already almost have a chest full of iron
Think my last death was in the mistlands? Got Gjalled with 1 HP food and 2 Stam foods lol
Yeah it's hard+ no map
Will be pain to bring all of that thru the swamp without dying and then all the way back to main base
And death means I can only retrieve what was equipped... And I had a hammer equipped
142 iron, 10 chains, 50 iron arrows (which is nice ig cuz I won't craft them) 28 glow mushrooms which is always nice
Thatโs a nice haul!
10 chains from a single crypt is very good, in my current world I've had to kill wraiths for most of mine.
Recently discovered you can find chains in the mistlands
Nice haul indeed.
Didn't find any amber or coins there?
Quite often you'll find those at ledges or in chests too.
Oh ye, I got 4 chains but a friend killed them for me, and my only experience with a wraith is him chasing me while trying to get back to my base from the swamp and almost dying with all my stuff
So glad I don't have to fight those
Didn't find any amber or coins there?
Oh ye, I just don't really count them as useful, I think I got everything from the trader already
Unless new stuff is unlocked after bosses cuz I think at least 1 thing was added later when I checked it
Killing bosses increases his stock
you will need all the shinies and coins you can find
You will need coins if you want to trade with Hildir.
Although most players don't consider her goods as "useful".
Yea still collecting em, just didn't mention cuz they seem useless rn
I prob have like 500-ish at base and got 200 coins now + a bunch of stuff I call sell
You should try to get thousands
For gold piles ofc
Selling off the rubies, amber shards and amber pearls will generate those coins quite fast.
Ye I think I am good on gold
Mine was in the Mistlands, too. 2* tick in an infested mine came around a corner, staggered me then killed me in seconds, 2 eitr and one stamina food with eitr gear.
I have started to warm up to arbalest, it is not as good as bow but it certainly sometimes beneficial in using arbalest
Just the fact that weakest bolt with arbalest deals more dmg than needle arrow + draugr fanf
And arguably needle is the second strongest โplainโ arrow
That's what I keep saying. The arbalest is different than the bow, not a replacement for it. But it is very good at what it does.
its the only plain arrow isnt it?
Though i still just want it to have higher elevation angle
Plain = no elemental damage, probably?
Like being able to shoot up further instead of being confined to almost horizontal line
Which means that unfortunately arbalest is better to use in plains than in mistland
i meant plains tier ๐
Plain as in from the Plains. It's the only new arrow in that biome.
Just because mistland is so misty that the one sole strength of arbalest is its superior range and guaranteed damage
No i mean โplainโ as in pure pierce dmg no elemental fx
Deaths are my least favourite part of Valheim. You bust a gut trying to keep yourself alive and then this little stone just pops up like you're playing Nintendo. I hate it. There's no sound design, there's no impressive graphics. I feel bad for dying, and I feel worse for the way the game illustrates it.
I still like frost arrows with the spine snap ๐ nothing like slowing the blimps so there can't get to you
Dying isn't exactly supposed to make you feel good, though.
So anyways, arbalest main strength is nullified by the mist, so usually you are walking blind with arbalest and only able to shoot sth just meters from you when u see them
but at least you don't have to wait to charge it like a bow while the enemy is a few meters in front of you
Which makes bow still better in mistlands than arbalest, unfortunately
No, good is not the key emotion there. But it should feel significant.
But you still have to load a bolt to use it, instead of being on demand like bow
I dunno... it fills me with righteous indignation, and I must avenge myself. It's also almost always a result of me getting a little too cocky and comfortable ๐ I don't mind being humbled sometimes, I need it.
Bow is just: draw + fire, bing bang boom
Arbalest is: load initial bolt, cant run or jump cuz that cancels the animation, and then fire
If you load it before a fight, run through mist and then run into a seeker, you can instantly get a free hit, then switch to a faster weapon using the time the knockback gave you.
Which means if you switch to melee and then reswitch to arbalest, it has to reload, again, which is a massive hindrance
Arbalest is load the bolt, then run jump or whatever until you actually need to fire it
You stay more mobile with bow
So use a bow mid-fight then
I don't mind being humbled either. I just think that if you're really trying to survive any kind of encounter, your death should invoke a feeling more than boink!.
Yes, my point is arbalest is only viable in achieving the first hit with a clear line of sight, other than that it is bot worth it running around with arbalest
And also the mist makes the clearly superior arbalest range underutilized as well since you cant hit what you cant see
Which makes it shine better in plains just because the insane range and surprise attack kills a fuling easily with 1 hit
It would have tickled if I was in a root harnesk, or carapace armor, or I had just been more cautious with the tunnel and properly cleared it first. Lots of ways I could have prevented it.
Tickled?
Yeah. Root harnesk halves the piercing damage before taking into account any armor values. It cuts piercing damage to a fair bit less than half of what it would do without the harnesk at the same armor value.
You can basically facetank a 1* seeker with fenris and a root chest mix.
on Very Hard you can facetank a two star seeker with some good food and a root chest
Or! You can kite them back to a Dvergr tower and avoid the fight altogether.
You can only bring the ticks out of the mines and that's if they're attached to you ๐
Yeah, root harnesk is of great help in both plains and mistlands, especially againsts
Plains - Deathsquito
Mistlands - Ticks
I wouldn't discount its use against seekers, spear throwers, and draugr archers
Also on high difficulty pretty good against Moder
damn these darkwood lox pens are expensive to make... would be so much cheaper if a simple low fence was enough, but no these acrobats know how to climb on top of each other
oh well, more tar pits to raid
So why don't you let them roam free?
Spugelo does NOT believe in freedom
having them separated in pens is far better for breeding
2 pens should be enough, doubt I need more than that
So, dig 8m down, add an 8m dirtwall around the edges and you should be good.
and make it fugly? noty. I'm using dark wood specifically becausse I want it to look good. Not some rotten food in the rain
for me 2 stone walls is high enough. Very rare that i end up with less than 2 lox in the pen, usually just the 4th and maybe the 3rd lox that climbs the wall
or ugly roof to cover that normal wood fence...
I only had 2 loxes and first 5 minutes after getting them into that pen they were already escaping
First two tames, perhaps?
Purple seeker solier, should I?
I guess that depends entirely on you intention...
If you've got magic and an escape route, seems like it could be fun
I got a frostner and and 3 stamina meals
Youll be fine just don't get hit
One hit risky build. Hope there's a nearby portal.
Brother, how do you even hit their abdomen?
by being real close to it and barely seeing what it's doing
Hit it in dey ass
It's a 3x2 rectangle. Finding the centre is a matter of pretty simple geometry.
turns out wraiths are pretty easy to counter with parrying ๐ although if its two wraiths - then RUN ๐
just got a wraith trophy ๐ woohoo! Lets go! ๐ฅณ
Nice! Thatโs a solid trophy!
parrying it then running around and hitting it, or waiting for it to do its ground slam and then running around and shooting it
I'd be surprised if you can parry if you're running triple stamina food against a starred soldier tho
Alr ill come back to that 2 star seeker soldier
I got bored after dodging and tickling him for quite some time
SOB I hate it when I log in and my guys isn't wearing any clothes, that means my last playthrough I Rage quit.
The only consistent technique I have found is to wait for them to start doing their tantrum ground pound and run around behind them then.
LOL I was sad cuz I thought I maybe lost my death marker and couldn't find it. Spent a few minutes searching the map. Nothing. Press Tab... apparently I picked up my inventory but didn't put it on.
Sometimes I gotta take a break or frustration overwhelms me. " Take 5 and come back with a clear head" works well for me.
Yea sometimes I take breaks too. I just never much understood the instant need to close a game with alt-f4 or such, I hate leaving games incomplete / potentially corrupting a save
My rage quitting is always more "Well, shit." I've had Valheim lose map changes and world changes a few times but I think that might have been before they fixed the full disk stuff.
Like it went to do the exit save but disk was fuill so it couldn't and instead of reporting that it just sweeps it under the rug
Or swept, more accurately, since they fixed it
What's the point of the iron pits? Are they purely decorative or do they have some function I'm missing?
The ones from Hildr? Mainly decorative. Also a cheaper / easier way to make a campfire on the go if you need to get rested
I think it's so you can place a fire on top of wooden floors/don't need to hang a brazier
I wanted to say that too but the regular standing braziers also aren't that expensive iirc
Indoor placement on wood seems to be the most useful aspect, for sure.
I thought they were smokeless but they are not.
They seem to be mostly decorative. Definitely a cheaper alternative to standing braziers. 10 copper, 5 tin and 3 fenris claws is pretty expensive.
ah that is more expensive than I remembered
Would you rather have more health or more stamina for Moder?
I have a fire pit close enough to my chicken coop to keep eggs warm, theyโre pretty cool looking! I have an extra 9 iron pits and storage just in case lol
Personally, I would rather more stamina.
I feel like you get some decent downtime to heal up naturally and recharge HP mead. Her attacks are easy enough to dodge, and the extra stamina allows me to deal a lot of damage while sheโs grounded.
I like eikthyr power with just 1 stamina. And then 2 hp bc gurl does DAMAGE if she hits you
For normal at least. Very Hard I wouldnโt touch her without 240 hp
That is true, if she hits you, LAWD thatโs a lot of damage! Eikthyr power is a solid choice, I agree!
no doubt I'd prepare the area to fight moder. Raise stone pillars for cover or something
You do know you can mine a tiny hiding spot under her altar?
Me: "I'm going to build a few more things for the next half an hour and have dinner after that."
Also me: "What? I've been building for over two hours and still haven't had my dinner?"
how bad is to install ,,warfare,, mod as first playthourgh? I am finishing swamps and kinda thinking about more weapons
I think you'd better ask that in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966
ah okey, thanks ๐
Just got raided by wolves... I hope they all get muzzles in the update. ๐ญ
when does Ahslands release?
Before the hounds but after the killer bees
Some time within the next 85 days.
yipeeeeee
BTW I think I figured out the main use for iron pits - if its not raining hard, you still get the fire effect it seems
That plus you can build indoors as others have mentioned
I avoided fighting bosses on my Very Hard playthrough but now have to go on a boss slaughtering rampage ||to |mprove the trader's inventory. ||
plus the decorations are fun
I always like mounting a Dverger circlet in a place where I can mount a boss trophy over it.
Gives a cool glowing effect while hiding the light source and it gives the boss trophy some contrast.
Atgeir + ooze bombs are bigtime. Drop ooze bomb, spin attack. Anything not killed by the spin will die from the staggered poison damage.
Sup guys, I wondered where I can find some playmates, is there a dedicated channel for that ๐ง?
thanks!
You're welcome. ๐ Have fun!
@kind steppecloser to the release of the update there will be a lot of people here
oh yes def, but I have such a strong desire to play right now ๐ญ ๐ญ I found a perfect seed but I'm too lazy to build on my own and none of my friends wanna play anymore
maniol bang 83
a tragedy. they rushed through all of the biomes to get to the Mistlands, I wanna enjoy the game in a slower pace
I love building if you want to start a slow fresh seed
you canโt be lazy to build what else will reflect your greatness if not the creation of your brilliant mind?
yes, I donโt like those who are in a hurry
I'm a perfectionist so I just end up restarting my builds, I need someone to tell me that sshhh baby it's okay that the windows are not aligned
yup, sounds fun! what's your time zone?
UK
but this is not normal, the windows must be aligned
we basically ran through the plains and the mountain, I didn't have time to enjoy it. also my favourite biome is swamp, and my friends didn't want to build a base there...
I found a somewhat far swamp with at least 2 crypts, 1 of which I looted and got 142 iron scraps, the journey to get it home is really long (a really long ocean travel), so I am considering do I raid the 2nd crypt before I transfer all the iron to the main base?
I usually do a first run to get an iron pickaxe and a bigger boat.
Or is 142 iron plenty and I should just get it now
nice. but I really love to yap and talk a lot in general, is that gonna be fine with you?
I have the longship (pickaxe is still bronze tho)
strange, why would that be?
Oh yea if its a long trip I'd totally clear the other crypt.
yes, and the ground should be perfectly flat. and also a nice fence. and a nice fireplace with a rug close by
Load up that longship
Alr
they're weak and I have a refined taste that no one understands, obviously
haha what do you mean?
I mean I'm an extrovert... so I love to talk. Some people just want to play and talk about the game and nothing more
modern witch tree house?
haha ok
usually I do all the talking but if you wanna yap on that's fine xD
just no politics or religion lol
a nice stinky cemetery that we occupied and turned into a village, that's the story
heretics will burn in fire

sounds perfect, actually ๐ซถ will you have time tomorrow?
ofc
I'm so happy sorry I'm so fed up with a solo run finally someone else in my game. Also, I have a seed that I want to use, you okay with that?
Maybe I can give you a couple of ideas on construction, how to arrange a cemetery, crypts and all that
sure!
so like just an advice or you wanna play with us?
I'm okay with both
there must be catacombs under the cemetery
you played Dragon Age Origins? The Deep Roads are my favourite. Nothing beats a nice scary tunnel littered with corpses
Itโs unlikely, Iโve been busy a lot lately, but if thereโs time, why not?
Perfect! I'm so glad
@steel copper tomorrow, what would be the most comfortable time for you to start? I think maybe in the evening?
I think these are the corpses of those who also came to enjoy the beauty of those catacombs
ah, my people
fine by me
actually, lore wise, the Swamp is really interesting, I love the way the writers describe it
I will get in touch with you around 17 o'clock, UK time, then
I've been trying to go for the Ole Munch look and can't decide if Long 1 or Loose 2 looks better for hairstyle.
And who is this?
Character from most recent season of Fargo
ahhhh, I remembered, I just didnโt remember his name
lol playing with the barber chair and making my guy headbang is fun
or saying absurd things and making him slowly look toward the camera
I kinda expect his hair to whip around
Are fishes affected by spawn suppression?
Yes.
ty
anyone having issues with Ashlands not loading on beta testing?
you can try to ask in #valheim-public-test most of convo about ptb is there ๐
as it has yet to be released, I imagine any attempt to load Ashlands will fail
Well ashlands is in the game and should be like it's been the last three years,
If it doesn't load something''s off.
well, yeah. "will fail" with several asterisks
Oh, so the Ashlands are in beta now, does anyone know when they will release? Approximately
they have the public test available for it in Steam for testing right meow
should be before June-ish
They'll be in public testing some time relatively soon, and then when ready to release they'll be moved to the live version.
Yes public test is where they put bug test releases. Ashlands hasn't made it to that branch yet.
That sounds optimistic, ngl
The PTB version right now is not Ashlands.
They said "first half 2024" so May/June doesn't seem terribly unreasonable
Awe boo, thanks peeps
no, still the engine upgrade beta there
I'm curious when the devs are going to start giving us some crumbs about the Deep North, considering the fact they spent around a year developing Ashlands
I see, thanks
IIRC we started seeing previews of Ashlands about 4 months after Mistlands.
Concept art and similar
So around October this year. Goodness, why should my favourite biome be the last to be developed ๐ญ
Save the best for last?
I always tell folks they can pass the time by building their own awesome games.
I can't wait for any information about it. I'm interested how they're going to design it considering the fact the Mountain is so similar
You're definitely right, I'm just impatient
I feel like deep north is gonna be icier than the snowy mountains
You joke but I was actually thinking about starting to mod cause I love Valheim's art style so much, one can start to build on its base, basically
Iโm hoping we see another gargantuan enemy thatโs the size (or bigger!) than the troll
I'm 100% serious and not at all joking
Blender and Unity are both free and there's tons of good tutorials
I'm curious what they're gonna do with the frost mechanic. Make it worse? So cold even the warm clothes don't help?
Why do I need a draugr elite trophy?
Frost Giants sound really realistic to me. Maybe some bears, you know, like the one from the Terror show?
for a weapon
It is used to make a weapon.
It would be interesting if nighttime was so cold and desolate, you stayed cold regardless.
Just one is fine!
Yup! This is actually a great idea since I have a lot of time now. I wanted to make a biome of my own, but just replace the textures, nothing too serious, am I right? To vibe and make good screenshots
Making your own biome is probably the hardest possible mod for Valheim I think
I haven't done any serious Valheim modding but it touches every game system I think.
Yes, exactly. And maybe some hot springs scattered around so you don't die all the time?
I mean it's not like I'm gonna animate. Do some models and just replace the in-game ones, doesn't sound that complicated.
I've never done any serious valheim modding so don't let me dissaude you from trying.
Tuunbaq looks like someone eager to jump on you from a friendly-shaped snow pile during the snow storm while you're freezing to death
even if I fail, it's still experience
@vocal rivet you think it's too difficult?
No, I just think you might be underestimating the work involved. And yeah, giving it a go might be an eye-opener.
I don't underestimate, I'm in the total darkness on the subject. I'm just optimistic, you know ๐ฉ
Just made a breeding ground of loxxes at yagluth ๐
Like it won't hurt to try, I always wanted to try my hand at modeling. If I fail, I can try modding Skyrim, lmao
If doing visual stuff, I'd start with Blender and learning how textures get mapped to polygons if you have not already.
I have some experience~
UV unwrapping, heh, NEVER got the hang of that.
Awesome! That will help, for sure.
making textures sucks, for sure, but I wanna chill in my little Avatar corner until I'm able to buy the Frontiers of Pandora
I might make a mod to Hunter S Thompson'ify the bats event. No more "The cauldron has been stirred"... you're in bat country now
evil
Quick question if anyone knows, is there a cooldown while breeding loxxes?
Are you asking if lox have a refractory period?
where's batman when he's needed?
... oddly I think the answer is yes, the breeding action has a chance every X seconds, I don't remember what X is.
Yes
Ah got it, just wondering if Iโm doing something wrong
Soemone made a youtube video about all the mechanics.
User name checks out
๐
I think I was sick the day they taught Lox Husbandry at viking school
Iโll try finding that, definitely will come in handy
Breeding can only occur once every 10seconds. (from script)
Pregnancy occurs when an animal breeds 4 times. (from script)
from reddit
I was gonna say, if you also grok C# that's a good foudnational block too
nothing about a time out between giving birth and another breeding
so I guess it must be instant
uhhh, yeah, of course... I might have been TOO optimistic on the subject, lmao. oh well!
I feel bad for these loxxes ๐ฅฒ forcing them to mass produce their species to fight an ancient boss
10 years ago I got hired as a Python programmer without knowing much Python so everyone's gotta start somewhere!
we have some nice people here who made wiki so we can find stuff like this easily ๐
I mean, they're fierce beasts. I'm sure they enjoy a good fight
That is true! I hope one of the first loxxes I tamed will survive, to be a true og
Not sure if some of my loxxes are pregnant or not
actually programming is a thing I always try to avoid, but I guess if I decide to be serious about trying to mod I'll have to get at least some knowledge. It's also just practical
I'm always surprised how little C# a person needs to know to get stuff done in Unity but yeah,it's a good skill to have if a person is gonna make a serious go at modding.
you can always call its offspring X Junior and make a tiny monument if it doesn't make it
you know, you make programming sound not boring, actually
I guess you just need a reason
My own programming journey started ~25 years ago building Quake mods, it's the whole reason I learned C.
hm. can I ask you what you do now as a programmer?
I can do that. I named the first two mom and dad
Easier to tell them apart
so mom junior or dad junior, sounds easy enough
Presently I build After Effects plugins and am trying to get some capital together to build a few games.
Yep! Iโll do that for the little ones
so you didn't move that far from what you started with, basically? pardon, I'm not very knowledgeable about these things
Mind if I move this to a DM?
Or #programming - then we're not clogging stuff up here w/ OT chat
I feel like these pregnancies last a little longer than a few minutes with loxxes
Is it normal to walk into a troll cave and there's no troll and then suddenly POOF there's a troll
Not sure, havenโt really had that. There has been where a troll didnโt spawn though
Rendering will do that
Think Iโll get 15 loxxes, bow yagluth for a bit, then fight 1 on 1
With preperation ofc
Seems normal, it happens in most troll caves I enter
I've never done a troll cave
You usually get a free backstab, so itโs easier than killing one normally unless you use bows
So, not much point to them
They also have chests and yellow mushrooms, and they have troll hide, of course
is it just me or do spears kinda suck compared to the rest of the weapons
really? i have the opposite experience. they're real nice early game and still useful currently at the swamp area
just learned that throwing them at leeches is a pretty safe way to take them out
Their throwing makes it easy to kill an enemy while staying outside its attack trigger area (is there a better name for this?) as much as possible, and they attack pretty fast
Spears are good if you know how to use them. They were the weapon of choice for the guy who won the speedrun competition last year, for example.
I feel like I already know the answer to this.... but when Ashlands comes out will it be leveled higher than Mistlands? I'm trying to decide if I want to start another playthrough now so I can jump right into Ashlands when it's out.
Ashlands will be the 7th biome in progression
It will be the biome after Mistlands in progression, yes.
Anyone have predictions on when it will come out? 1mo, 2mo, more?
It should be out first half of this year
It's announced as coming out in the first half of this year.
Awesome. Time to convince my friends to play again to be ready for Ashlands!
Thanks.
you should build a bridge to ashlands
The terrain generation is going to be changed when ashlands releases, donโt do this!
i thought explored areas are uneffected
Objects will reimain the way they are but terrain is regenerated whenever it is loaded, so the bridge will probably collapse.
Even the main menuโs terrain is generated whenever you start the game
So don't build any insane bases either. What if I spawn and stack boulders in the ocean to use as foundation? Do you think a base built on that would still collapse?
I havenโt spawned objects to use in builds before, but anything that doesnโt fall (like trees and small rocks do) and supports buildings wonโt collapse. As I mentioned, objects are fine, only the terrain gets regenerated.
Don't forget that players who build anything in the Mistlands before that one was released, ended up with their structures being high above the ground or partially underground when Mistlands was released.
So best thing to do is simply not building anything in Ashlands, until you participate in the PTB or if it's released.
Oh, I wasn't going to build in the ashlands at all. Just do a normal playthrough to be ready for ashlands.
Old worlds may be affected, but usually things are safe in the already released biomes.
Worth the risk. I've been having the Valheim itch for months. I'll deal with the consequences when they come.
There shouldnโt be consequences in finished biomes, youโll be fine
I feel like they're only good early game. Also mace and shield is just so much better and more versatile imo if we're talking swamp.
I switch between that and bow
I guess it depends on the person and their playstyle
Spears are undervalued, but often overshadowed by bows
I use spears too in swamp sometimes, quite nice. Maces are very good too. Only real advantage I'd say maces have in swamp is against the boss tho. It does do extra damage against skellies and blobs but those are hardly a threat
I have only ever used a spear once, not because itโs bad, just didnโt use it
i used a spear once too, threw it off a cliff never to be seen again
Haha!๐ I remember making a spear as a starter and I tried throwing it at a greydwarf, I failed miserably and ran away. When I went there next time, it was gone
You think 10-15 loxxes are enough to go up against yagluth? (Including me)
I think I just had a very unique Valheim experience:
Sailing through a mountain biome.........
not sure
I may be close, but if you got the right weapons to support them, you'll be fine.
I like making a track to sail down a mountain, but Iโve never been through one.
maybe if you use the staff of protection but i doubt you have that right now
I feel like a mix of, frostner, blackmetal sword+bow for range is pretty good against yagluth
Silver does more damage to yagluth than blackmetal
Yeah, thatโs a bit away, Iโll be needing that for the queen lol
Do you have any fulling villages near that Yagluth altar?
Nope
Iโll probably swap off my blacmetal sword for silver
Shame.
Last fight I had with Yagluth was close to a fulling village.
I evicted them, made the sacrifice and used one of their towers to snip him off.
He never aggro'ed on me, so that was a very easy fight.
Fight before that I used 40+ wolves.
Worked so well, I had to hit him once.
Wow! I usually donโt like making it easy, I still want a challenge.
I feel like valheim has this challenge to offer, & itโs a big part of it. Definitely hilarious to shred him down with a ton of wolves
It was actually a bit too easy.
I had more fun with the fight where I was able to snipe him off from that platform in the Fulling village.
hi guys, Valheim have 6 or 7 biomes right now? The "fire" biome already launch?
Still a challenge to be able to snipe it from a distance
Ashlandโs will launch soon
Ashlands will be released within the next 84 days.
thanks, guys
No problem
Mwoah.
He was close enough to show his healthbar and he's large enough to be able to hit him.
I personally feel like with lox pie, bloodbag and wolf skewer as food is good, fire resistance, bonemasses power, & 10-15 loxxes can handle this boss situation
within this month or next month. Im getting the huff of a nearby release. Its a hunch not confirmation btw
Iโm worried that when the ashlands release, itโll be hard to build a base, & survive when you get there as there will be a huge gaping ocean
If it doesn't work out, you can always train some wolves.
Although that may take a it more time.
the scent of fresh wood placeable is near
I think I remember seeing some safe biomes on the border near ashlands
may change but maybe a spot of some random biome
That may change as the Dev's have stated in one of their vid's that the Ashlands will be seperated islands only.
True
i never had any issues with setting of a teleport portal nearby then making a boat to take over which is risky since if you die all your stuff is gone
so perhaps build 2 boats that you actively keep repaired and once you get to the land mass, you full sail one of the boats back in the directiong of your portal room
then jump off that boat
Boats anchor/freeze when no players are nearby
skill issue
Just make a portal in the ashlands
probably for the best, atleast when learning about the destruction of the mobs you could counter
im only really worried about the serpent, im having a gut feeling it does ranged
The problem will be its pierce resistance. Weโll have to kill it with melee/magic attacks.
(Iโm assuming it has pierce resistance because itโs a skeleton)
Guess it's time we discover blunt arrows......
nukes
Wrong game.
Minecraft is that <--- direction.
Iโm sure it will be well balanced for this though. Maybe we get a new boat to withstand more attacks from it, giving us as many opportunities to bonk it (itโs likely to have a blunt weakness) as possible before the boat breaks.
minecraft doesnt have nukes
i could kinda see a new boat, has better odds on doing crits with direct hits with the tip of the boat
I'm curious what kind of blood sucking parasite the Dev's have picked for this biome.
Probably a magma golem thatโll have 2000-3000 base hp ๐ช
Or bigger surtlings
With 500 hp which are also fast
That's the new "troll-monster".
But after leeches, deathsquitoes and ticks, I wonder if we get something like fireflees.
Wouldโve been cool for mistlands to have fireflies to also lead the path a BIT
In the time I have played, I had the stupidest death today
Crushed by a tree while standing in your campfire?
Nope, fall damage at a low point at yagluths altar ๐
My first death was from the first tree I chopped. I knew the store page described the game as brutal so this set my expectations way too high for the difficulty of the rest of the game.
I hadnโt eaten a meal because I was chilling with the loxxes until I climbed up a little with 16 hp and some reason walked off
I was pretty pissed but also was funny at the same time
Ashlands might have the most content in a biome considering its separated by ocean with its own ocean creature + unknown creature that's not the morgen or fallen Valk
As long as you're able to recover your items easily, it'll remain funny.
hi
Hello!
Morgen looks very bloodsucker-ish
True I was just sad about my skills โน๏ธ
I donโt know if you guys know, but do animals mature while youโre away?
They might, but will only show as matured the moment the player enters their vincinity again.
Kinda like how the crops work.
One of the funniest deaths is being yeeted off the mountain by a stone golem. Of course it's very frustrating and upsetting but it's hard not to laugh if/when it happens.
I havenโt experienced that but I would laugh for sure, definitely hilarious
!ashlands
Ong the fuling totems are actually capacitors that hold a form of energy equivalent to the sun โ๏ธ
I'm gonna nickname one "Godzilla"
im on day 180 and still havent done bonemass or got silver yet. I just love the building in this game its so satisfying
I feel that. Planning on getting started on my new build tonight.
Loxxes growing up take a bit too long
So did breeding over 40 wolves for me.
Especially when you have to jump back and forth between your wolf breeding pen and your boar pen.
Itโs hard to jump back n forth with breeding
That's why I'm usually building something when I'm breeding
I feel like my 13 loxxes should be enough for now..
Depends on if you want fish and bread
what are loxes for
Making lox pie!! And riding into battle
And protecting your land. They hit hard
Lox vs Abomination... FITE
bro the 1 star boar i spent several days taming just died on my boat when i rotated it. it got killed by the boat wthhhhh
how the hell am i supposed to transport boars back to my base if they cant survive my boat
when i tried steering my boat slowly my boar took damage as if it was getting run over by the boat
Don't. Make a breeding base where you find them, and leave them there. Never, ever take your only rare tame anywhere. Breed it and take the children.
bruh is there a way to reload a last save?
I pushed a wolf on and had them "follow" when I was on the ship but it's a gamble, they fall off
how do take the children?
can i carry them or something?
so animals cant ride boats good to know
With boars? I just don't. They're prone to doing exactly what you have experienced, especially on a boat. You can sometimes use a harpoon or push them down a chute you build with fences, but boars don't really behave at all.
The nice thing is that they will mature when you are off doing other things you only need to be physically in their presence for them to breed.
i tried to harpoon my tamed boar but it wouldnt latch on. doesnt only work on wild boars?
You need to turn friendly fire on for it to work, in the menu where you can open your skills and such
on a scale of 1-10 how chill is the valheim community
Moderate
๐
are you able to pick up kids and put them on your boat?
I tried that, was jailed for a few years
how do you take the children then?
You want to let them mature first
The basic idea is that you breed for more starred animals so you're not putting all your eggs in one basket. A starred animal has a 50% chance of making a star offspring with a un-starred partner. Once you have offspring with stars, just kill the regular ones and breed them together and you're guaranteed offspring with stars.
Then you take a few of those offspring with you, leaving some breeding stock behind, that way if a mishap occurs during travel you will not have lost everything.
what if happens if i dont let them mature first and i stuck them on my boat as newborns
They are much more fragile and will die very quickly from any damage
are 2 star boars more common in the meadows at the edge of the world?
i should just go straight for a 2 star boar instead of 1 star if it takes that much effort to bring them back home
i built a whole secured stone barn for them already too and dude just straight up died on my boat
I hate losing so much skill upon death
I worked so hard for it and 5% of my bow skills are gone
he literally exploded
Pffff. Those 2* Greydwarf Brutes are living up to their name.
I'd rather fight a 2* Grey-smurf instead.
right. Got him. But took me 4 "Forrest Gump Manoeuvres" before I managed that.
And I thought a 2** troll was bad.
don't die?
havent seen a 2 star troll yet. are you on the starting island?
Yup.
I haven't encountered one at this seed, but I did at another one.
Was one of those fights that made me wonder if leather pants wouldn't be better; considering you won't see the brown stain that easily.
is it true that if i kill all the boars near a boar rune stone a 2 star boar will spawn? i read it on a reddit post but not sure if this is true or not
@wide zodiac No, that's nonsense. For a start, boar runestones are one time spawners, and secondly, aside from those single spawn, starred boars only happen 800m from the centre of the map outwards.
Usually best to ignore Reddit frankly.
Unless I'm the one that wrote it ๐
Yeah, but you would have got it right.
how to tell if a boar is pregnant?
No need to check that.
Feed it carrots, mushroom or some other items, make sure there's another boar nearby and pet it if you like.
At some point the boar(s) will squeek and a new one pops out.
You do want to wait for pink hearts to show up to make sure they're getting pregnant
whats up with the purple lightning?
special Mistlands effects
cool
When you get 5 acorns from a single oak tree ๐ค
i can see why sea serpents are so dangerous... on a ship like a longboat - paddling is so slow.
old comment I know, but its worth mentioning they are also fantastic at destroying your land! I raise and tender lox on my base, and I find if you use any sort of 'realistic' containment fence like Iron reinforced Dverger Stakes or stone walls, you'll have to repair them often (once every few weeks) as stressed lox tend to run around and deal trample damage (which walls are weak to as it is considered 'blunt'). Totally worth raising, but I reckon anyone interested in loxing should keep that in mind
Big dummies like to see what you're up to. I dug a hole in rock and lined it with stone wall, and pushed them in!! I put a sign next to it "Pit of Despair". Although it actually looks quite pleasant with meadow grass and a tree :3c Didn't know they destroy other stuff easy.
I admit the big hole method feels a bit industrial for my tastes. I have a large paddock inside my fortress walls with a gate and birch trees throughout. They love the extra space it seems, and I can give them food easily. Also makes getting them out easy peasy. The fence I use is the dvergr one, cause the old one kept getting trampled. I have a turret set to kill fulings and squitos before they stress the herd, but its pretty inaccurate
underpopulation is solved with cloudberry distribution, overpopulation is solved with salt and pepper
Yeah... lox are a bit weak to fire, and Yag's got some to spare.
True, the damage helped out tho
Loxxes came in handy bringing it down to half hp
But I donโt think the fight went too fairly
lol seen someone use Wolves the same way
release the hounds
I used the backup saves to be able to beat yagluth, but I feel like it was kind of cheating. Otherwise it wouldโve been impossible for me to retrieve my items. So Iโm not sure if I should just restart and be more ready.
lol you can always go back and retry the boss the normal way
I just went through a lot of pain ( 7 hours of breeding and taming) i didnโt feel like doing it again
then don't use the loxes
I feel like 20 loxxes would do quite the job, and rest would be me
Theyโre a good option. Wolves would get killed too quick
the only way wolves work is if they kill the boss before he gets an attack off
or a significant chunk so you can finish him yrself at least
but they won't last long at all
You can also lower the difficulty or death penalty if you find him too difficult
so what does everyone think the next black forge and galdr table upgrades will be. so we cant finally get tier 4 mistland armor + weapons
No clue what the upgrade will be, donโt care much either. I expect weโll get it in Ashlands update tho
Prob wonโt make much difference, except if dead raiser is able to upgrade one more time
hello, im verry new to valheim. im kinda scared to go in alone
Is there an easy way to mass flatten ground?
There might be a devcommand?
Otherwise, I just spam the hoe across a region. Getting a large swath of land perfectly flat takes a bit of effort, and sometimes you have to build it up before you pat it all back down to get it perfect.
You got this, I believe in you. You can ask here if you have any questions, but a big part of the joy is discovering
If you are looking for others to play with #1024264966712340510 is the place to look. But honestly I recommend giving the game a go solo when just starting out, or at least playing with other newbies
i would love to play with other new players, it just that im having a hard time finding some x.x
Itโs tough yea. Thatโs why Iโd recommend trying it out solo to not have too much spoiled
yeah that's what we're doing but mining the parts that can't be hoed sucks
The upgrade feature doesn't seem very well balanced
How so?
Early in the game a tool with 2-3 upgrades outperforms a higher material tier item without upgrades
And later in the game the upgrades barely do anything because the bonus is the same regardless of the base power of the weapon
Flint Spear goes from 20 to 26 damage in a single upgrade (increase by 30% damage)
Ancient Bark Spear goes from 55 to 61 damage in a single upgrade (increase by ~10.9% damage
Carapace Spear goes from 115 to 121 damage in a single upgrade (increase by ~5.2% damage)
And then a Bronze Buckler at level 3 has the same exact block power as a base power Iron Buckler, but also has 1.5x as much durability because of its upgrades
The later you get in the game, the less valuable upgrading gets
While earlier in the game it's better to keep using a high level item than it is to "upgrade" to the next tier
lvl 3 grade is supposed to be on par with the next material lvl 1
do i have to stay near my boars while they are pregnant to progress the pregnancy or are they like crops and still grow while im far away
It would be nice if the base power of a tier was better than the fully upgraded version of the previous tier by at least 1.
ye, you gotta stay within the area, ~64 m for them to tame and breed
they need to gain 3 hearts before pregnant, but at that point the timer moves auto
it will pause if you leave the vicinity
awwww man i gotta afk for like a week
sleeping speeds it up
If you keep them passive and not frightened or aggroed, it only takes 30min and 3 morsels of food,
Sleeping does not speed it up btw, it just wastes the food
taming it doesn't but when the boars are already pregnant it does
how long is the pregnancy?
immediately after gaining the 3rd heart
it's very quick, the time delay hits for waiting for the piggys to mature
(which sleeping helps with)
can they immediately breed again after giving birth?
when the child grows can they also breed with their parents?
yes
at that point they are basically clones of the adults
the only difference between any of the adult tames is only 1st gen, which sometimes have a recall behaviour that makes them want to constantly return to their spawn area which can be annoying when they won't eat, but that behaviour is easily bred out before you even move them for the first time
Im starting to wonder if infested mines really exist (I cant find one)
whats the max number of pigs i can have inside a pen? or is there no limit
It's limited by the amount of space provided...if you want more, make a larger pen.
I think my current pen is about 5x5 or 5x6 of the stake fences, and I've gotten around 8 or 9 boars, I believe.
For just having them in there? just stuff in as many as you can.
But for breeding there's some rules:
5 Within 10 meters for boars, once there's 5 they no longer breed. For optimal breeding multiple pens with 10 meters seperating them would be great... or alternatively if you do not care how hideous the structure looks, there are ways to move those piggies away from the 2 adults and just keep breeding
Like dropper setups that automatically drop the piglets out of that 10 meter range.
I made a wolf farm where I kicked the cubs down into a very deep pit from above so I could make infinite wolves, and a pit to kick enemies into
if it works it works ๐
do you guys play mainly solo
i do
was thinking of doing something like that for loxes but... nah. I remembered that these big goof balls give 4-5 meat and you'll get 2 loxes bred per pen, meaning 4 with 2 pens per about 100 minutes. That would be 10-11 meat per hour on average. Each lox pie lasts 30 minutes, but you'd probably eat again in about 15 minutes to refresh it. meaning 4 pies per hour if you're eating constantly, more likely less. Which at best would be 8 lox meat per hour required to sustain lox meat pie buff 24/7
long story short, 2 lox pens should be more than enough for 1 person
how big should i make the pens for loxes?
I came up with a design I like for them. Seems to be a good size for them when there's 4 adults I'll post a screenshot
also can i transport loxes back to my base in the meadows by boat?
havent explored plains yet but just planning ahead rn
probably is possible haven't tried, but to grow barley and flax you'll need a base or outpost in the plains anyway
Loxes can swim short distances, you might not need a boat
can i harpoon them and drag them across an entire ocean
With enough stamina, yes
probably going to need stamina regen mead
Just try to stop any hungry serpents eating them
do loxes have 1 star and 2 star varients too?
what wood did you use for that pen @half dragon
Itโs darkwood, crafted from wood and tar
can be replaced with some other material, but imo that looks great
also loxes cannot have a roof above their head, it will prevent breeding
do u unlock chickens first then loxes or is it the other way around
chickens require you to defeat the boss of plains, so unless you rush in to kill the boss with suboptimal gear and food, you'll probably be farming loxes first, or hunting them for food
Chickens used to only be available after yagluth, so loxes come first
I dont think you can make food with them without the all cauldron upgrades, anyway
Do I need tin/copper/bronze for swamp/after swamp stuff? want to know if I should mine some and transfer them along with my iron or if I shouldn't bother
Bronze isnโt used for much past black forest but youโll need more iron later in the game.
Is there any news that ashlands update will add content for some previous biomes?
Aight so no point mining some extra copper and tin to transfer along with the iron, thx
the only thing Iโve seen announced is a new wood floor
Anyone wanna start a new world?
what do i do after defeating moder?
Prep for next boss
No idea tbh
๐ me neither
Havenโt donโt it in a while
im guessing plains ig
did that biome
Head to the plains as soon as you got the items build you unlocked after defeating Moder.
You will need those.
And prepare well, as some of the monsters at the plains are a real PitA.
fighting 5+ growth at once is not a good idea i repeat it is NOT a good idea
scary blobs of dookie
Nope
Bros speedrunning fr. I still havent even done bonemass yet lol
speedrunning? ive got 50 hours on this server ๐
where you from?
Europe
btw a tip for plains if you have trouble/want to make villages easier, find a tar pit close to a village and lead the beserker there, ussualy makes it alot easier to kill him, also dont get close to shamans and just bow them down :)
got it thank you
no probs, just ask if you got any other questions, at plains myself too :)
how many iron do you usually takes on ship? I have 210 now and it takes forever to fill ship from swamp, but I am no near full capacity of longship
i try to get a full boat, i need all of that iron for decorating and chests
when is the update coming i cant wait anymore ??
well it can be anywhere from now to in 2 months
but probably less than a month i hope
I usually fill the boat of clear the swamp, whatever comes first ๐
nooooo
but i wanna start a new save now๐ฅบ
So?
YOu can do that as long as you don't move into the Ashlands.
Also, "first half of 2024" means we still got 3 months to go. Not two as someone mentioned.
bro theres 12 months in a year not 14
its the 4th month now, so in 2 months its 6 which is the half of 12??
Bro, June is month 6. We're in April right now.
So April, May, June.
That's 3 in my book.
if you add 60 days to now its june
thats approxmiately 2 months
But "first half of 2024" goes up to 1st of July.
Which means 3 months.
no?
Or, to be precise: 84 days.
๐
if you say every month is 30 days, in 68 days it will be the 15th june, which if you double the days from jan 1 to june 15 it will be december 30, which is half a year
I wish this game had more build shapes.
Sure mate, whatever.
If according to you the second half of 2024 starts the moment we're in June, that's fine with me.
But given that half a year means 6 months, it also means that for me - and lot of other people here as well - it includes June.
The end of June Is the end of first half of the year, after that are 6 more months
that isnt half a year tho, end of june ur about 7 months in, and 6 more to go. doesnt add up to 12
Can you please list all the months and tell us which Is 6th?
end of june is almost july
It's not:
{quote]
The exact halfway point of the year falls on July 2nd in a standard calendar year. This means that there are 182 days before July 2nd and 183 days after it in a non-leap year. In a leap year, the halfway point is July 1st, as there are 183 days before and 183 days after that date[/quote]
I rest my case.
And by this logic there is 13 months in a year?
ah okay ur right then
my bad
I think a calendar based upon the moon cycli is actually having 13 months in a year. But that would be the only one.
ah ty, my brain is getting numb from all these temples ๐
Anyone else noticed there's lots of raspberries near the spawn point, but never many red mushrooms?
As if the game tries to force us to hunt deer and boar.
there's not many mushrooms anywhere, takes some effort to find them
but when you're moving around hunting stuff you'll find plenty
Yeah,true that.
Reason why I mark them on my map the moment I do find them.
The opposite, actually, on one new map, anyway
I usually see a few mushrooms near the spawn, i guess raspberries are just more noticable
that too
I finally saw my 8 meter high fence in action. Another lox tried to break out by climbing on top of each other, but it's barely high enough to prevent that
There are 2 raspberry bushes and 2 mushrooms near the standing stones.
But I just did a run in the vicinity and found 29 raspberries and 7 mushrooms so far.
Glad I don't need them as food anymore, but still.
I got a lvl 7 forge (after making iron-related stuff) but my crafting station is still at 4
What material am I missing to unlock the upgrade for lvl 5?
Do you have a Cooler, (small) anvils, Smith's Anvil, Forge Tool Rack, Bellows and Grinding wheel?
Ye, how's that related tho?
Used the wiki (wanted to avoid spoilers but whatever) and I am missing obsidian
Is that a swamp thing
No, mountains.
So I won't get the next workbench for a while cuz I haven't killed bonemass yet and prob shouldn't go to mts before then
they look like rocks, but when you look at them it says "Obsidian" often close to stone golem spawns if i remember correctly
well depends, i used iron stuff for the mountains almost completely, so if u have a shield and an alright shield skill you can go to mountains, tho remember a bunch of arrows
and frost res
I'd rather not go there yet until I defeat bonemass
alright, the only thing i recommend for mountains if u got all the stuff i mentioned is make a portal somewhere, as it will make it easier to get ur stuff if you die, also keep a bunch of frost resistance potions in ur home.
Also I should get iron pickaxe but not iron axe right?
And how much do I upgrade things like huntsman bow/pickaxe/iron sword etc
IF you're able to craft frost resistance mead, you may consider it.
You can get some useful items from it, although getting silver will be a bit more difficult without the Bonemass drop.
And ig I should go for iron buckler or braided, I think buckler cuz parry
dont upgrade hunstman, i actually skipped it and went straight to draugr fang
It's already lvl 3, welp
get iron buckler, i literally skipped the whole iron gear n stuff, only thing i got from mountains was bow and fenris leggings and wolf cape, thats all
I heard it's really nice tho (huntsman)
well its alright, but i recommend just getting draugr fang as soon as possible because its one of the best bows in the game rn (if not the best)
Well you need to keep in mind I am a beginner and it's my first playthrough
It's all up to you.
But it may be a good idea to upgrade everything to its maximum level at some point, because you may need it as backup in case you died.
its my first too lol
i just didnt feel like getting the stuff, because i was raiding fuling villages before killing bonemass lol
Yeah, i just wanted to say Its kidna wierd sugesting skipping stuff to a new player...
Let them find what works for them
i didnt suggest skipping i just said i did it, i just said i recommend getting draugr fang as soon as possible
Yee, like I see how I can skip iron axe cuz from what I heard u don't need iron until u get the next upgrade after iron
So might aswell skip that, but for other stuff I would rather not skip
well i mean i still have a bronze axe lol
heh
One of the few things you can actually skip getting is the bronze Pickaxe.
Sure, the Antler one wears out faster and is a bit less fast in use; but you can mine up to Swamp with the antler one.
Which means you can use the bronze for something else.
also you will need a bunch of iron stuff later in the game too
yeah skipped that too lol, didnt feel needed and u cant repair at normal workbench
Kinda too late for that
Ig I will make iron pickaxe bcz I'll need it, is it worth upgrading tho?
Iron pickaxe will be needed in the mountains, not before.
can antler pickaxe not break some of it?
If it can, it will be painfully slow.
ah damn
Antler can mine copper, rock and mudpiles, but not silver.
Not sure about obsidian.
What stuff is worth upgrading?
whats ur main weapon?
Do I upgrade weapon, buckler etc?
Maxed bronze sword but I am considering maybe switching to mace for iron just to have it against bonemass
Although I don't think I like maces from what I have seen
Follow your ABUs: ALWAYS. BE. UPGRADING.
Always upgrade weapons, armor, hammer, hoe and cultivator (depending at the size of your farm).
iron mace is so nice for swamp you should really consider getting it, i just switched my iron mace to porcupine
also i suggest getting a maxed root harnesk while ur in the swamp
if you have trouble fighting abominations you can always use surtling spawners for fun and easy kill
Hoe, cult and hammer have been maxed for a while now
Is everything supposed to be available for crafting on all crafting stations with nocost enabled? I.e. armour and weapons craftable in cauldron.
My armor rn is root mask 3, harnesk 2 and iron leggings 1
yup
ah ok, but when entering mountains dont use root harnesk while in dungeons, cultists will HURT
Aight, figured it was intended since it was the same on both cauldron and forge. I was just mildly surprised to find armour recipes in my cauldron. :p
Need 14 roots to max both helm and harnesk
trust me i ignored the warnings, quick 3 hour session trying to get my stuff back
You'll find weapons in your cauldron recipes as well.
Guess you can use them as a big blender that way. ๐
also while ur in swamp if you can get a couple chains for future stuff
Yeah I can also make food on the workbench.
Yea, I have a bunch
nice thats good
15
dont be like me and throw them away, had to spend so many nights looking for wraiths to get chains for black metal shield
Eventually, everything you collect over time can be used at some point again.
correct
Oh wait lvl 7 is max forge, pog
still im gonna throw many things away
I hope you don't throw your old armor and weapons away.
You may need those too at some point.
I don't throw anything
I am sometimes too lazy to collect stuff like wood, but if I have inv space and weight I keep everything
Like I have a chest full of resin + resin in some random chests cuz 1 chest wasn't enough, I don't need that much fire arrows lol
iu am too lazy to make a chest system
tho im probably just gonna make one for each biome
My tip to store things:
The moment you are able to make the item stands and the armor stands, use those to store "obsolete" weapons and armor.
That way you know you have it, you know you can pick it up the moment you need it and it's a nice way to show off what you made in the past.
i want every amour set with weapons in a collection at some point
I just dump it in a chest cuz I cba to make those and find a space for them, my house is kinda cramped
same lmao
And anyways I'll need to move eventually, so will wait for when that happens
plains is a loveley biome to build in
is that saracsm
definitely not
no. it looks great. but neigbors can be annoying to deal with... AKA deathsquitos
both feels like it
root harnesk!
proper spawn proofing/defenses highly recommended for bases in plains
i use root harnesk so no problem
I don't think so.
Plains have the advantage of having wide views and it's having enough resources to build stuff.
how does wolves do against deathsquitos?
I'm currently in process of spawn proofing quite somewhat large island all for myself
allows me to skip building defenses
not great, since they are bound to the land
Is that island larger than the event circle?
oh dang, well its probably just a temp base then
even lox sometimes gets annihilated
or for farming flax and barley
Is a lvl 0 mace better than a lvl 40 sword (both are iron) for bonemass?
I'll post a screenshot to show the proper scale of it
Bonemass is vunerable to blunt, so mace is always better.
If you have doubts, select one at the forge, hoover over the other one in your inventory and compare the stats.
you gonna fight bonemass now?
Nope lol
Posted the screenshot. The island isn't small and will take me a good while to thoroughly spawnproof it
ah ok
Just wanna know what I should craft, I could maybe just make both a sword and a mace
Keep in mine that Bonemass is a "boss + minions" fight.
But all of them are vunerable to blunt, so mace is always good.
iron mace and you're good to go, highly recommend it since it remains useful in mountains too
mace worked incredibly well for me, me nad my dad took down the boss in under two minutes just roll dodging, didnt even need healing meads (tho probably bring some for safety)
I suck at rolling so I will def need some safety
you should really train it, when rolling you are immune, which means u can dodge any attack. Usefull all throughout the game
I haven't bothered to make any healing mead yet or stamina mead because I'd like to have a proper building for them. will work on a building meant for making food and mead soon, so that's where my mead production shall get started
especially for bosses
yeah i only made one mead never made other, ill need a bunch for yagluth i think, tho not even close to ready for that fight yet
I don't really get a chance to use it as I always try to block
I have medium hp + small stamina + tasty mead on my hotkeys at all tiems
Prepare the area by removing any spawn points for Draugr and skelletons.
Also bring the hoe and raise land around the altar to give you a better opportunity to move.
Memorize the locations of the indestructable trees you can move onto, because you can use them as safety point.
Bring health, stamina and poison resist potions and put them under a hotkey.
That'll get you started for sure.
ah, well theres many things you cant block, especially starred stuff
will have real good food and mead for yagulth as well. I'm taking a massive break from progressing the game, taking time to build a proper main base
Only really used once or twice when a wraith chanced me
nice
And also stamina for going back to a ship from lavs
yeah, but also if theres multiple enemies its really usefull
also for stone golems in mountains, cant really block them
and just any boss overall its almost needed
so i suggest learning it just a lil better before fighting bonemass, but up to you
Are chickens scared of fire?
Yeye, will try maybe fighting trolls melee
yeah trolls are good practice, they also hit a bit like bonemass
decimating trolls with porcupine feels so nice, dealing 25% damage while staggered per hit ๐
For bonemass armor what's the strat
go in and hit him with the iron mace, when he attacks roll dodge
Thinking root helm and cp + iron leggings and troll cape
and repeat, pretty easy boss imo, just watch out for water around the boss and probably raise ground
i used iron armour+ root harnesk
also dont use bow just use iron mace fast and easy
Did u use iron helm and leggings?
yes i think
He does poison no?
cant really remember tho but im pretty sure, yes use poison meads
also if ur alone have a portal close by and some posion meads a save spot
Is iron gear also good for mountains
That's why I said that.....
So I know if I should try to get fully upgraded iron armor or nah
well i used root harnesk+iron helm and switched to fenris leggings when i got it (but make a iron or silver cp before entering dungeons because cultists hurt) and probably one tap
What's fenris leggings
ur choice but it wasnt needed for me, just be carefull he deals about 50 or more dmg per hit
Mountains light armour
from dungeons in mountains, but that was just for movement speed, its my new repalce for iron leggings
Keep in mind that the heavier armors have a movement penalty.
If you like speed, better stick to the root armor. Especially since you got some poison resistance, which works nicely with the poison resistance mead.
Eventhough those two don't stack.
but be carefull because root armour doesnt give as much armour
but honestly i suggest getting iron, since if you just hit it and roll dodge movement speed isnt really that big of a deal imo
if you upgrade it or nah is your choice
Ye, learned it the hard way by almost dying cuz I couldn't outrun a troll, but iron helm has only 2% penalty I think
oh yeah also what foods u using?
Speed matters, you don't have to roll if you can just get out of the way
no helmets has no penalty
