Once you get to the stage where you can make major healing mead, the only use left for dandelions is making banners. Or feeding the chickens.

fallen zephyr
# crude yacht Maybe a 2 star troll vs abomination?

I think we might have to consider strengths and weaknesses. For example, Stone Golems actually deal chop damage that might provide a threat to Abominations. And Abominations deal pickaxe damage to which Golems are weak. Valheim deathmatches need some thought.

half dragon
#

a mod for turning all damage types to neutral that ignores resistances and weaknesses would probably make the comparision more fair

but no clue if there is even a mod for that

One of the things a lot of players do - or did - was mining out the area under The Elder's altar and use that as portal hub.
The influence of the altar fire reaches even down, giving you a rested status the moment you enter it.
And with using it, you only need to have one portal at your main base; which makes things looking quite fancy. (Not to mention, not having to bother with portals activating the moment you walk close to them all the time)

Other's use it as a combination of portal hub and chicken pen.

fallen zephyr
#

Question - Is anyone else putting effort into building bases at the border of Ashlands in anticipation of the expansion?

pliant hatch
#

Not really.

I'm expecting the map to change a bit; just like it did after Mistlands became available.
Which may make it harder to access that base as well.

fallen zephyr
pliant hatch
#

I'm aware of that.

But just check a seed in the different builds at the Valheim world generator.
You'll see that the biomes change in size and shape with each build and especially when Mistlands was released that area increased a lot in size.
Which means that other island had to shrink to fit the Mistlands in.

I'm expecting that to happen with the Ashlands as well; meaning anything close to it may have to deal with a changed environment too.

I think it would be neat if those crops could grow in the Black Forest, but I understand why they canโ€™t.

charred otter
#

First solo swamp crypt (2nd crypt ever) and there is a 2star elite draugr here

#

Luckily I didn't fully break the iron so I am just cheesing him, but he takes so little dmg, couldn't imagine fighting him

pliant hatch
#

Are you using a bow to take him out?

light moat
#

Hopefully you get his trophy!

charred otter
pliant hatch
#

If you think about going toe-to-toe with him, use an axe.
I noticed my bronze axe did more damage to Draugr as a mace does.

charred otter
#

Got him already, but also I am using a sword

#

Oh no, 2 star archer, my luck

pliant hatch
#

Guess it's one of those days.

Wouldn't surprise me if there's a spawner nearby.

Do you hear flies buzzing near that area?

charred otter
#

What's the strat, rush in? too scared to die

pliant hatch
#

Take that archer out first.

#

You may want to use your bow to farm for entrails for a while, before breaking that mud-wall and rush in.

Just make sure that if you decide to rush in, you do that after you just ate your food to benefit from the maximum health and stamina you get from that.

#

Another valid tactic; break that mud-wall, equip the bow and retreat.

That way they have to come at you one by one, making it easier for you to pick them off. Or to melee them.

nocturne wolf
pliant hatch
nocturne wolf
#

And his pierce resistance. He still had half of his health. I think moder could beat the queen if she gets lucky with the attacks she uses, her flying projectile attack does a ton of damage.

pliant hatch
#

Hmmmm.

And to think I cheesed Yagluth twice, but hated the fight against the Queen more as the one against him.

charred otter
pliant hatch
#

You will have to break that pile of corpses that spawns Draugr yourself.

#

But it's pretty weak, so a few hits with a sword will do.

#

In general, the moment you rush in and start swinging like a mad man you may hit any Draugr that spawns as well as that pile of corpses.
When I did that, it's the pile that's gone before the Draugr do.

And assuming you got some sort of shield, use that to protect against the Draugr's attacks.

What kind of armor and shield are you using anyway?

charred otter
#

Maxed bronze shield is the same as t1 iron I think

nocturne wolf
#

What food are you using?

pliant hatch
#

That's actually better as what I had when facing a similar threat.
So if you make sure you got maximum food and stamina and the occassional potions under a hot-key you're good.

charred otter
nocturne wolf
#

You'll be fine

charred otter

nocturne wolf

pliant hatch
#

Got stamina and health potions under a hot-key?

charred otter
#

How should I time it in terms of last time an enemy spawned

pliant hatch
#

Then you're good to go. Break that wall, retreat the moment they attack, kill the ones attacking you and rush in to deal with that pile of corpses

charred otter
#

Also is it in the same room as the mobs or can it be like 1 room near it

pliant hatch

Nice haul indeed.
Didn't find any amber or coins there?

Quite often you'll find those at ledges or in chests too.

charred otter

Oh ye, I got 4 chains but a friend killed them for me, and my only experience with a wraith is him chasing me while trying to get back to my base from the swamp and almost dying with all my stuff

#

So glad I don't have to fight those

#

Didn't find any amber or coins there?

I have started to warm up to arbalest, it is not as good as bow but it certainly sometimes beneficial in using arbalest

#

Just the fact that weakest bolt with arbalest deals more dmg than needle arrow + draugr fanf

#

And arguably needle is the second strongest โ€œplainโ€ arrow

frigid gust
#

That's what I keep saying. The arbalest is different than the bow, not a replacement for it. But it is very good at what it does.

Though i still just want it to have higher elevation angle

nocturne wolf
uncut bough

Which means that unfortunately arbalest is better to use in plains than in mistland

merry pebble
frigid gust

uncut bough
fallen zephyr
frigid gust
#

I still like frost arrows with the spine snap ๐Ÿ˜‰ nothing like slowing the blimps so there can't get to you

nocturne wolf
uncut bough

So anyways, arbalest main strength is nullified by the mist, so usually you are walking blind with arbalest and only able to shoot sth just meters from you when u see them

nocturne wolf
uncut bough
#

Which makes bow still better in mistlands than arbalest, unfortunately

fallen zephyr
uncut bough
frigid gust
uncut bough
#

Bow is just: draw + fire, bing bang boom

#

Arbalest is: load initial bolt, cant run or jump cuz that cancels the animation, and then fire

nocturne wolf
uncut bough
#

Which means if you switch to melee and then reswitch to arbalest, it has to reload, again, which is a massive hindrance

frigid gust
#

Arbalest is load the bolt, then run jump or whatever until you actually need to fire it

uncut bough
#

You stay more mobile with bow

nocturne wolf
fallen zephyr
uncut bough
#

Yes, my point is arbalest is only viable in achieving the first hit with a clear line of sight, other than that it is bot worth it running around with arbalest

#

And also the mist makes the clearly superior arbalest range underutilized as well since you cant hit what you cant see

#

Which makes it shine better in plains just because the insane range and surprise attack kills a fuling easily with 1 hit

frigid gust
frigid gust
#

Yeah. Root harnesk halves the piercing damage before taking into account any armor values. It cuts piercing damage to a fair bit less than half of what it would do without the harnesk at the same armor value.

nocturne wolf

Objects will reimain the way they are but terrain is regenerated whenever it is loaded, so the bridge will probably collapse.

Even the main menuโ€™s terrain is generated whenever you start the game

So don't build any insane bases either. What if I spawn and stack boulders in the ocean to use as foundation? Do you think a base built on that would still collapse?

nocturne wolf

I havenโ€™t spawned objects to use in builds before, but anything that doesnโ€™t fall (like trees and small rocks do) and supports buildings wonโ€™t collapse. As I mentioned, objects are fine, only the terrain gets regenerated.

pliant hatch

Don't forget that players who build anything in the Mistlands before that one was released, ended up with their structures being high above the ground or partially underground when Mistlands was released.

So best thing to do is simply not building anything in Ashlands, until you participate in the PTB or if it's released.

The basic idea is that you breed for more starred animals so you're not putting all your eggs in one basket. A starred animal has a 50% chance of making a star offspring with a un-starred partner. Once you have offspring with stars, just kill the regular ones and breed them together and you're guaranteed offspring with stars.

Then you take a few of those offspring with you, leaving some breeding stock behind, that way if a mishap occurs during travel you will not have lost everything.

old comment I know, but its worth mentioning they are also fantastic at destroying your land! I raise and tender lox on my base, and I find if you use any sort of 'realistic' containment fence like Iron reinforced Dverger Stakes or stone walls, you'll have to repair them often (once every few weeks) as stressed lox tend to run around and deal trample damage (which walls are weak to as it is considered 'blunt'). Totally worth raising, but I reckon anyone interested in loxing should keep that in mind

And later in the game the upgrades barely do anything because the bonus is the same regardless of the base power of the weapon

Ancient Bark Spear goes from 55 to 61 damage in a single upgrade (increase by ~10.9% damage
Carapace Spear goes from 115 to 121 damage in a single upgrade (increase by ~5.2% damage)

And then a Bronze Buckler at level 3 has the same exact block power as a base power Iron Buckler, but also has 1.5x as much durability because of its upgrades

chickens require you to defeat the boss of plains, so unless you rush in to kill the boss with suboptimal gear and food, you'll probably be farming loxes first, or hunting them for food

I dont think you can make food with them without the all cauldron upgrades, anyway

pliant hatch

So?

YOu can do that as long as you don't move into the Ashlands.
Also, "first half of 2024" means we still got 3 months to go. Not two as someone mentioned.

slender dagger
#

its the 4th month now, so in 2 months its 6 which is the half of 12??

pliant hatch
#

Bro, June is month 6. We're in April right now.
So April, May, June.
That's 3 in my book.

slender dagger
#

thats approxmiately 2 months

pliant hatch
#

But "first half of 2024" goes up to 1st of July.
Which means 3 months.

pliant hatch
#

Or, to be precise: 84 days.

stoic estuary
slender dagger
#

if you say every month is 30 days, in 68 days it will be the 15th june, which if you double the days from jan 1 to june 15 it will be december 30, which is half a year

I wish this game had more build shapes.

slender dagger

and 8 days is cliser than 30

pliant hatch

Sure mate, whatever.
If according to you the second half of 2024 starts the moment we're in June, that's fine with me.
But given that half a year means 6 months, it also means that for me - and lot of other people here as well - it includes June.

slender dagger
#

no it starts june 15

#

if you do it mathematically

The end of June Is the end of first half of the year, after that are 6 more months

slender dagger

slender dagger

end of june is almost july

pliant hatch

The exact halfway point of the year falls on July 2nd in a standard calendar year. This means that there are 182 days before July 2nd and 183 days after it in a non-leap year. In a leap year, the halfway point is July 1st, as there are 183 days before and 183 days after that date[/quote]

Anyone else noticed there's lots of raspberries near the spawn point, but never many red mushrooms?
As if the game tries to force us to hunt deer and boar.

half dragon
#

there's not many mushrooms anywhere, takes some effort to find them

#

but when you're moving around hunting stuff you'll find plenty

pliant hatch
#

Yeah,true that.
Reason why I mark them on my map the moment I do find them.

void abyss
merry pebble
#

I usually see a few mushrooms near the spawn, i guess raspberries are just more noticable

half dragon
#

that too

#

I finally saw my 8 meter high fence in action. Another lox tried to break out by climbing on top of each other, but it's barely high enough to prevent that

pliant hatch
#

There are 2 raspberry bushes and 2 mushrooms near the standing stones.
But I just did a run in the vicinity and found 29 raspberries and 7 mushrooms so far.
Glad I don't need them as food anymore, but still.

I got a lvl 7 forge (after making iron-related stuff) but my crafting station is still at 4

What material am I missing to unlock the upgrade for lvl 5?

pliant hatch

Do you have a Cooler, (small) anvils, Smith's Anvil, Forge Tool Rack, Bellows and Grinding wheel?

charred otter

Used the wiki (wanted to avoid spoilers but whatever) and I am missing obsidian

#

Is that a swamp thing

pliant hatch
#

No, mountains.

charred otter
#

So I won't get the next workbench for a while cuz I haven't killed bonemass yet and prob shouldn't go to mts before then

slender dagger
slender dagger
#

and frost res

charred otter
#

I'd rather not go there yet until I defeat bonemass

slender dagger
#

alright, the only thing i recommend for mountains if u got all the stuff i mentioned is make a portal somewhere, as it will make it easier to get ur stuff if you die, also keep a bunch of frost resistance potions in ur home.

charred otter
#

Also I should get iron pickaxe but not iron axe right?
And how much do I upgrade things like huntsman bow/pickaxe/iron sword etc

pliant hatch
#

IF you're able to craft frost resistance mead, you may consider it.
You can get some useful items from it, although getting silver will be a bit more difficult without the Bonemass drop.

charred otter
#

And ig I should go for iron buckler or braided, I think buckler cuz parry

slender dagger
#

dont upgrade hunstman, i actually skipped it and went straight to draugr fang

slender dagger
charred otter
#

I heard it's really nice tho (huntsman)

slender dagger
charred otter
pliant hatch
#

It's all up to you.
But it may be a good idea to upgrade everything to its maximum level at some point, because you may need it as backup in case you died.

slender dagger
#

its my first too lol

#

i just didnt feel like getting the stuff, because i was raiding fuling villages before killing bonemass lol

merry pebble
#

Yeah, i just wanted to say Its kidna wierd sugesting skipping stuff to a new player...

#

Let them find what works for them

slender dagger
charred otter
#

Yee, like I see how I can skip iron axe cuz from what I heard u don't need iron until u get the next upgrade after iron

#

So might aswell skip that, but for other stuff I would rather not skip

slender dagger
#

heh

pliant hatch
#

One of the few things you can actually skip getting is the bronze Pickaxe.
Sure, the Antler one wears out faster and is a bit less fast in use; but you can mine up to Swamp with the antler one.
Which means you can use the bronze for something else.

slender dagger
#

also you will need a bunch of iron stuff later in the game too

slender dagger
charred otter
#

Ig I will make iron pickaxe bcz I'll need it, is it worth upgrading tho?

slender dagger
#

i use iron pickaxe and its pretty nice

#

but havent upgraded lmao

pliant hatch
#

Iron pickaxe will be needed in the mountains, not before.

slender dagger
#

can antler pickaxe not break some of it?

ornate sentinel
#

If it can, it will be painfully slow.

slender dagger
#

ah damn

pliant hatch
#

Antler can mine copper, rock and mudpiles, but not silver.
Not sure about obsidian.

charred otter
#

What stuff is worth upgrading?

slender dagger
charred otter
#

Do I upgrade weapon, buckler etc?

charred otter
#

Although I don't think I like maces from what I have seen

ornate sentinel
#

Follow your ABUs: ALWAYS. BE. UPGRADING.

pliant hatch

charred otter
latent wraith

Is everything supposed to be available for crafting on all crafting stations with nocost enabled? I.e. armour and weapons craftable in cauldron.

charred otter
slender dagger
#

ah ok, but when entering mountains dont use root harnesk while in dungeons, cultists will HURT

latent wraith
#

Aight, figured it was intended since it was the same on both cauldron and forge. I was just mildly surprised to find armour recipes in my cauldron. :p

charred otter

Need 14 roots to max both helm and harnesk

slender dagger

trust me i ignored the warnings, quick 3 hour session trying to get my stuff back

pliant hatch

You'll find weapons in your cauldron recipes as well.
Guess you can use them as a big blender that way. ๐Ÿ™‚

slender dagger

dont be like me and throw them away, had to spend so many nights looking for wraiths to get chains for black metal shield

pliant hatch

Eventually, everything you collect over time can be used at some point again.

slender dagger
#

correct

charred otter
#

Oh wait lvl 7 is max forge, pog

slender dagger
#

still im gonna throw many things away

pliant hatch
#

I hope you don't throw your old armor and weapons away.
You may need those too at some point.

slender dagger
#

yeah i dont

#

kept the iron stuff

charred otter
#

I am sometimes too lazy to collect stuff like wood, but if I have inv space and weight I keep everything

#

Like I have a chest full of resin + resin in some random chests cuz 1 chest wasn't enough, I don't need that much fire arrows lol

slender dagger
#

iu am too lazy to make a chest system

#

tho im probably just gonna make one for each biome

pliant hatch
#

My tip to store things:

The moment you are able to make the item stands and the armor stands, use those to store "obsolete" weapons and armor.
That way you know you have it, you know you can pick it up the moment you need it and it's a nice way to show off what you made in the past.

slender dagger
#

i want every amour set with weapons in a collection at some point

charred otter
#

I just dump it in a chest cuz I cba to make those and find a space for them, my house is kinda cramped

slender dagger
#

same lmao

charred otter
#

And anyways I'll need to move eventually, so will wait for when that happens

slender dagger
#

yeah thats what im trynna do rn

#

moving to plains

half dragon

maiden granite
half dragon

no. it looks great. but neigbors can be annoying to deal with... AKA deathsquitos

slender dagger

both feels like it

half dragon
#

proper spawn proofing/defenses highly recommended for bases in plains

slender dagger
#

i use root harnesk so no problem

pliant hatch
#

I don't think so.

Plains have the advantage of having wide views and it's having enough resources to build stuff.

slender dagger
#

how does wolves do against deathsquitos?

half dragon
#

I'm currently in process of spawn proofing quite somewhat large island all for myself

#

allows me to skip building defenses

maiden granite
pliant hatch

Is that island larger than the event circle?

charred otter

Is a lvl 0 mace better than a lvl 40 sword (both are iron) for bonemass?

half dragon
pliant hatch
#

Bonemass is vunerable to blunt, so mace is always better.

If you have doubts, select one at the forge, hoover over the other one in your inventory and compare the stats.

slender dagger
charred otter
half dragon
#

Posted the screenshot. The island isn't small and will take me a good while to thoroughly spawnproof it

slender dagger
#

ah ok

charred otter
#

Just wanna know what I should craft, I could maybe just make both a sword and a mace

pliant hatch
#

Keep in mine that Bonemass is a "boss + minions" fight.
But all of them are vunerable to blunt, so mace is always good.

half dragon
#

iron mace and you're good to go, highly recommend it since it remains useful in mountains too

slender dagger
charred otter
#

I suck at rolling so I will def need some safety

slender dagger
#

you should really train it, when rolling you are immune, which means u can dodge any attack. Usefull all throughout the game

half dragon
#

I haven't bothered to make any healing mead yet or stamina mead because I'd like to have a proper building for them. will work on a building meant for making food and mead soon, so that's where my mead production shall get started

slender dagger
#

especially for bosses

slender dagger
charred otter
#

I don't really get a chance to use it as I always try to block

#

I have medium hp + small stamina + tasty mead on my hotkeys at all tiems

pliant hatch
#

Prepare the area by removing any spawn points for Draugr and skelletons.
Also bring the hoe and raise land around the altar to give you a better opportunity to move.
Memorize the locations of the indestructable trees you can move onto, because you can use them as safety point.
Bring health, stamina and poison resist potions and put them under a hotkey.

That'll get you started for sure.

slender dagger
#

ah, well theres many things you cant block, especially starred stuff

half dragon
#

will have real good food and mead for yagulth as well. I'm taking a massive break from progressing the game, taking time to build a proper main base

charred otter
#

Only really used once or twice when a wraith chanced me

charred otter
#

And also stamina for going back to a ship from lavs

slender dagger
#

also for stone golems in mountains, cant really block them

#

and just any boss overall its almost needed

#

so i suggest learning it just a lil better before fighting bonemass, but up to you

azure yacht
#

Are chickens scared of fire?

charred otter
slender dagger
#

yeah trolls are good practice, they also hit a bit like bonemass

#

decimating trolls with porcupine feels so nice, dealing 25% damage while staggered per hit ๐Ÿ˜

charred otter
#

For bonemass armor what's the strat

slender dagger
#

go in and hit him with the iron mace, when he attacks roll dodge

charred otter
#

Thinking root helm and cp + iron leggings and troll cape

slender dagger
#

and repeat, pretty easy boss imo, just watch out for water around the boss and probably raise ground

slender dagger
#

also dont use bow just use iron mace fast and easy

charred otter
slender dagger
#

yes i think

charred otter
#

He does poison no?

slender dagger
#

cant really remember tho but im pretty sure, yes use poison meads

#

also if ur alone have a portal close by and some posion meads a save spot

charred otter
#

Is iron gear also good for mountains

charred otter
#

So I know if I should try to get fully upgraded iron armor or nah

slender dagger
#

well i used root harnesk+iron helm and switched to fenris leggings when i got it (but make a iron or silver cp before entering dungeons because cultists hurt) and probably one tap

charred otter
#

What's fenris leggings

slender dagger
grizzled wing
slender dagger
pliant hatch
#

Keep in mind that the heavier armors have a movement penalty.
If you like speed, better stick to the root armor. Especially since you got some poison resistance, which works nicely with the poison resistance mead.
Eventhough those two don't stack.

slender dagger
#

but be carefull because root armour doesnt give as much armour

#

but honestly i suggest getting iron, since if you just hit it and roll dodge movement speed isnt really that big of a deal imo

#

if you upgrade it or nah is your choice

charred otter
slender dagger
#

oh yeah also what foods u using?

grizzled wing
#

Speed matters, you don't have to roll if you can just get out of the way
