Ground that is very close to the water level
i was gonna ask how much of the map you explored, but forgot you didnt have map on lmao, is it without portals too?
but you cant make a small item invade-safe with that spawn radius, can you?
I'm confident I've explored the entire starting island. It's huge and had big bays or seas around it. Confused tf outta me when I sailed somewhere then explored my way back to the altar... Like 3 times ๐
I think so but not fully sure. I feel like I often see raid enemies popping up out of very shallow water
Flying enemies tend to have no problem spawning fully submerged in the ocean I think
I think flying enemies like bats and drakes can, but general enemies can't
I was also playing with no portals until recently I just allowed them so my friends can meet up with me. That's their only purpose in this playthrough
Haha, its crazy how 420 days and you havent made it past bonemass yet, tho makes sense because its so difficult (not saying ur slow or anything just like in general yk)
as long as you have spawnproofing placed as near to the coast as you can it should be fine for everything but bats and drakes
lmao, i would hate it without portals if it was me too
I'm at 600-700 days and haven't beaten bonemass ๐
damn
Got full mistlands gear tho so who needs bonemass
bro what ๐ญ how you get iron then
You need to kill Elder for swamp key for easy iron
Bonemass is for locating silver, but I just dig randomly around a mountain to find some. You don't need much silver anyways
well i can spawn moder too, but i dont want to because the server is for me and my dad and brother, so im not gonna do it without them. But ive played like 95% of the time so i might solo it so i can go to plains
I've skipped bonemass and Yag, but prob gonna go back and kill Yag soon
True, 1 vein is enough for me as of for now.
Feel that, same reason I haven't killed yag yet
Nice, is it a solo server?
Nah with a few other people but I'm by far the most active
yeah, just found her spawn today after searching 4 mountains with no veg i just find a new mountain and the first thing i see is the spawn when i run up to the top lol
ah okay, yeah i might find like a community server or something to play on because i like to play with people and not just myself
Yeah, I've been able to find silver without much effort though. So it's not a high priority at this time. I spend a lot of time building and pathing, making things more traversable and convenient. I always work through the nights too so that's a lot of playtime on this world ๐
with the abundance of copper in Mistland, i have decided to craft bronzehead arrow
needles arrow for mistland, bronze arrow for plains and below
I got an abundance of obsidian so I've been using those
ah okay, haha that sounds nice! Id like to make things like that, but because it shouldnt be a problem to keep this server when ashlands come out ill be prioritizing to get some plains stuff before going too in-dept with building (even tho i really like building but ยดhavent really had much experience because ive just returned after about a year, furthest ive made in progression is killing moder.)
Which to get plain stuff, ill need to kill moder (well i have most of the stuff from leading villages to tar pits, but i need the smelters and stuff).
also i found out how a pain in the ass the cultists are when u have harnesk on (wasnt able to use anything else because my dad was using my iron cp, so i died a couple of times๐
Can anyone recommend playing those community servers? Or are they mostly garbage
it's always tough finding a good server. Really gotta find a group of people you trust / vibe with, because there's basically no anti-grief protection
Is it worth giving a shot?
Dunno, up to you. I'd imagine it usually goes well if you're a friendly person trying to meet others to play with
I've only ever joined one server with randoms but it went well
well im gonna try to apply for a server in the #1024264966712340510 channel, found one im kinda interested in with no mods whatsoever
@Lolly where you from? ๐ฎ just because ping really affects parrying - that's how i died on my friends servers ๐
i'm an aussie myself
My bad, from denmark
nice ping lol
I'm from Denmark too ๐ฉ๐ฐ
Mhm, mhm, yes I concur.
lmao
Youโre gonna get moderated
CalPal fully understands
oops
Have the devs at any point said if we'll get the final crafting station upgrades for the Galdr table and Black Forge before Ashlands release or not?
Itโll be fine but they crack down on it being an English only server a lot
how do i find brenna?
I think they usually release it with the biome release?
Thanks man!
what is brenna
Hi guys I'm ready for you to release Ashlands now. Go ahead
I'll do you one better - WHY is brenna?!
the skeleton mini boss?
Thats... not how it works..?
Prove it
ohh hildir?
no, but I'd highly doubt it. I don't think they plan on adding any content before Ashlands update
That said, I'd imagine Ashlands will give another upgrade to Galdr/Black Forge
USUALLY they've released the full crafting station upgrades WITH the biome when it came out. But mistlands still doesn't have the final station upgrade.
We got lvl 2 originally and later we got lvl 3.
I'm just wondering if we'll get lvl 4 for mistlands before ashlands comes out.
It isnt fully ready for release, they will release it when they got it ready and as bug-free as possible
Thanks!
Hildr is an NPC that sends you to take out minibosses. Brenna is the skelly miniboss
Ah, yeah havent seen hildir yet.
I'm ready to play it now though
i found hilda but cant find the skelly
Yes, but i dont think its ready to be released now though
well idk how it works
fenris armor with lox cape goes crazy
wait till you get the mistlands cape
if you interact with something in her camp it should show the location of all the minibosses on your map
fenris armor with root harnest goes crazy (fire and pierce protection)
i walk over campfires and take no damage so if i right yagluth should i wear silver or fenris
doesn't work like that. You need all 3 pieces of fenris armor to get fire resist
But you can always drink a fire resist potion
yeah her cartography table. its like got all these little pins in it
Yes but remember that resistances don't stack.
So Root Harnesk/Fenris Armor will never be as good as higher biome armor with a fire resist potion and bonemass's power or yagluth and bonemass powers.
campfires are just wonky. No armor makes you fully immune to fire. I suggest fenris because it makes you faster to help outrun the meteors, but silver will make you tankier if you want that.
Fire resist you can get from either wearing all 3 fenris pieces, or from just drinking a fire resistance potion
Campfires do a low tick fire damage. Fire sources are not all the same, they can do different amounts of fire damage. Yagluth does rather more than a campfire ๐
Yagluth stronger than a campfire confirmed!?! ๐
can you bait loxes with food into their pens? tamed ones
Yes. You can also build a saddle though, and that can often be much easier.
but also more time consuming and expensive...
You can take the saddle back off... you only need one.
Quite cheap if you've already killed Moder imo
Haven't tried moving lox with food but I'd imagine it being kinda difficult
15 black metal though? my warehouse is eating them like a gluttonous beast
but if 1 is all I need sure I guess
You'll have overflow in no time
where does that overflow come from? I've already conquered the entire nearby area and I'm still starving for more
If you've killed Yagluth, just stay up late. Or if not, just stay up late in the Plains.
I use blackmetal for ||ballista bolts|| and such, but still have like 14-18 stacks in excess rn
raids can give a ton, or wiping out a village gives a couple stacks if its a big village
all nearby villages already gone, will have to go much further out to get more
none of them were all that big tho
maybe you won't automatically get excess then
Yeah. Just hang out until nighttime in the Plains. There will be roaming groups of 3-5 fulings, it's really easy to farm blackmetal that way.
tbf my current base is in plains which lends to BM excess, but even when I setup in meadows I find that I get a lot
doesn't really help when the base I'm building is being setup to be 100% safe and it's an island. Mostly so I don't have to build defenses all over the place
ah then yea. If you setup base far away from a lot of plains and effectively disable raids then plains resources can be a tough
it is entirely in the plains, enemies just don't spawn here xD
I just ran into 2 1 star and a 2 star and had to make my first raft-of-shame trip in a long time.
I play with raids disabled, but I donโt find plains materials too hard to come across- Iโll hunt at night like Pita mentioned for black metals if I need it.
does killing the boss make more of them spawn in plains, or does it remain the same?
I think it remains the same but you get more spawns in Meadows
I'm not sure if they have the same-sized raiding parties
I had to do that recently.. no raft though, I'm usually pretty good about having portals on any continent that I spend more than a few seconds on
Same! I got a lil too big for my britches securing the local area and it was only when I went to go through the portal that I realized I didn't have one hahaha
I have decided to put all the eggs into a โfarmhouseโ where i crowd 40 eggs at a time near a hearth
I think I'll just have to sail further out to fix my blackmetal problem... drip feeding myself around 10 black metal a night is going to take a long while to complete my warehouse
And when they grow up, it is go-time with the butcher knife
We need a Homer "d'oh!" reaction here...
LOL that would be tame compared to my profane reaction.
next time setup base in plains ๐ช
My current base is in plains for easy plains resources, right next to mistlands so I can get resources from there, and only a short sail from Ashlands
already in plains...
Well thats true, but the harnesk frees up the bonemass slot and also makes deadsquitos seem like flies
Yeah my crew is scouting a souther mistlands location to use as our main base to attack the ashlands from.
because its spawnproofed or a small area or just unlucky?
All of the Hildir dungeons are like, terribly far away for me. There's a Sealed Tower right next to her, but I have to traverse through a fair bit of Mistlands to get to the Brenna dungeon. That's my current task, trying to figure out how to sail and haul that back to her without having to risk Gjall air attack or sailing too much through the mists.
spawn proofed all the area near my base to prevent them from wandering here. Eventually will spawn proof the entire island though
well sounds like thats effectively why it's not benefitting your blackmetal supply to be in plains. Only sustainable source of it are from mob spawns
but still, not enough of those fulings are spawning per night to justify doing that instead of sailing further away
I just parried Moder's land ice breath... With a fire staff...
I didn't even know that was possible
Build a bridge to the mainland? That's how I have it.
Well hell, now I have to go try that...
even when spent all night in plains still only got around 10 black metal...
On very hard as well...
Really, idk how I did it, I actually thought I died.
And I only had like 90 hp
Seriously all odds were against me
with 10 metal a night will take me almost 90 nights to complete my warehouse
Can a 2 star and zero star boar procreate and make a 2 star boar, and then can I take that 2 star piglet, kill the zero star and then mate the child with the OG 2 star and have unlimited 2 star piglets??
Yup! That's the easiest way to do it.
The piglet inherits the stars of the one giving birth to it.
So if the first procreation is a zero star, that 2 star isnโt the mother..
Meaning Iโd need to find another 2 star?
Just keep breeding them until a 2* piglet pops out. Animals in Valheim are hermaphroditic... any of them can give birth.
damn, how much max health? (I'm assuming no ||magic ||shield)
No, there are no sexes, but they get pregnant and give birth individually (with other boars nearby needed for pregnancies to happen).
And can I put stacks of 50 or whatever max or do I need to split them up 1 at a time in the pin
They can eat from a stack
Okay. Cool
just did some calculations and your excess wouldn't be enough to complete my warehouse, only a bit more than half of it ๐
Multiple stacks has caused weird issues for me, like they'd get confused about which stack to eat from and not eat from any
How do people tame deer?
That was my max HP LOL
I had seeker aspic, stuffed mushroom and muckshake. And no magic shield. I don't even have that staff
Mods.
With arrows.
new strategy: Don't kill yag. Remove base spawnproofing. Turn raid rate to max
Blackmetal will start rolling in
I was left with like 13-18 hp. That was all my plot armor depleted in one attack
very impressive. I did not expect that at all either
EES food meta ๐ But... muckshake? Not salad or bread even?
hmm... I think I'll make completely separate mud hut or something as a base for fighting raids or something
don't want them near my actual main base lol
If I have a giant farm.. for as far as the eye can see basically in the meadows.. mobs wonโt spawn on the other end and destroy my crap while Iโm on the other end tending to my crops or whatever, will they?
Any speculation on when ashlands will drop on PTB?
I really donโt wanna make a fence or fortify it
By the end of June.
sometime between now and not now
profound and insightful
Sometime after the current PTB is moved to the mainstream release branch, and not before.
We don't do date speculation here because people tend to take it as promises and out of context. It just makes things annoying.
If its outside of render distance no. But that sounds like a dangerous gambit, and you'd definitely have to spawnproof the area of the farm that is within render distance
Render? Like a mob seeing me?
There was one muckshake left so I got that one to free up that slot.
Besides, I prefer saving better stuff for actual necessity (like keeping on suicidally exploring mistlands without having killed yag yet)
Mobs can spawn anywhere except in range of a "player base" item (most fire sources, crafting stations, beds and a few other items - the wiki has a full list but contains spoilers) that prevents spawns in a 20m radius around them. Fences don't stop mobs from spawning inside them if the area isn't spawn proofed.
Ahh... that would explain the lack of salad. I eat a lot of those since they're so cheap ๐
Youโve definitely enlightened me on the power of salads lol
no, certain parts of the world won't load in if you're far away from them. If it is not loaded in, mobs won't spawn in them
Basically though I think what you wanna do is build both fences around your farm, and place some torches, campfires, or workbenches along it to stop mobs from spawning within the farm. Anything else will probably get your crops destroyed
Hmm okay. Well right now Iโm just dealing with the occasional raid once an evening irl, and I just kite them away. I know itโll get harder though
I just donโt wanna make an ugly moat/fence. Farms are suppose to be open and free ๐
love darkwood poles. Perfect for outdoor fence that doesn't become ugly and green in the rain
Once you find tar, in the Plains
They are indeed
Man, I suck at the swamps.
This is my second go around with a play through, I got sad in the swamps and stepped away for a few months. Now Iโm back with my bronze armor and loving it with a new found addiction
But the swamps are rough.
Animals should have grass under their feet and the sun over their heads! Keep boars out of stone boxes ๐ญ
one way to fix that is burying crafting benches. that also allows you to repair and craft anywhere in their range
I don't think you can bury them any more, right? they break if burried
you can. dig a hole, build a 2m wood pole that touches it, then bury it almost completely, use flatten tool to only barely bury it
it's a bit tricky but works
ah; so if pole is above ground it doesn't break table attached to it?
interesting, I'll give it a shot! I just have a bunch of unsightly craft benches around my island, lol
I have an idea I'm gonna try.
Place ward as Player 1. Create workbench as Player 2 outside scope of ward, upgrade it twice, see if my overlapping workbench area lets me destroy another players ward.
Leaving a small patch of terrain with anything attached should stop it breaking
I'll post into screenshot of what it looks like when it's done properly
The reason why I love the new passive mobs and no raids sliders ๐
My rec for first-time swamp excursions is:
- Stay out of the water where possible.
- DO. NOT. STOP. Keep moving!
- Keep your eyes peeled for yellow flowers while you're seeking crypts.
.5) Poison Resist Mead
0: Don't rush in but be careful and pay a lot of attention to everything around you.
constantly moving around will have you encounter more enemies though. Whenever I stayed in 1 spot for a bit longer I encountered less enemies
constantly moving if you're not being followed can easily be more deadly than stopping to have a look at what's around you.
- build a longboat asap
- Invest in CRYPT-ocurrency
- Kill 3-legged trees
- just don't die, ez (a joke, but do try to not die ๐ )
Safe portal outside the swamp, walk in if you can. Do not sail directly into the swamp
those 3 spawner spots gotta be one of the most dangerous areas in the swamp. Either gotta avoid them completely or wipe them out with a proper plan of RUSH IN, smack as many of them as possible before they spawn more enemies
Arrows can take out the spawners from a distance, too, with some patience. That's often a good early way to deal with them.
if they've already spawned enemies tho... guess gotta work on that archery skill
even with poor equipment can destroy 2 of the spawners before I have to start dealing with enemies, but that is because I've got experience dealing with them
Starred archers will ruin yr day anyway xD
on that note, I'd keep 2 portals. 1 outside of the swamp and 1 inside the swamp preferrably on top of a crypt. basically 100% safe spot to build them
the one outside as backup in case you die while relocating the portal
Especially when you're able to climb up on one of those indestructable trees and snipe things from there.
unless it's night and a random wraith ambushes you... happened to me once ๐
Worst part is when you're just working on a pretty bridge for your house and wraith comes out of nowhere and oneshots you
Should've gotten a permit for that bridge building.
Bro how much stamina do you NEED for angler fish
All of it
Seriously though, for fishing I'll often try to go triple stamina just because some of those bastards are crazy annoying to reel in
And just plan on running if I see an enemy ๐
good amount. Best practice is triple stamina food of plains/mistlands variety, and possibly a stamina potion
High fishing skill helps a lot tho
You can also walk inland, pulling the fish with you towars the shore to lessen the distance you have to reel it.
and not throw the line too far out in the first place
Fishing skill got it
Fun fact: if you have an enclosed pond you can catch a fish, throw it back, and catch it again and get XP for it each time.
PitaBredMon playin' 5d chess over here with the fish
I find it kinda silly reeling fish only gives double the xp of reeling nothing
That reminds me, I need to dig out the pond near my meadows base to make a proper fish pond for all kinds of fish.
wut?
How?!?
oh god...
Reeling in fish also gives you fish.
I think an iron pick axe and a long boat will be my iron makes
allegedly. That's what the big fishma wants you to believe
are there public server in valheim?
Nope. All servers are community run.
Yes and no, it's a single player/co-op game and most people play alone or with friends, but some want to play with strangers and advertise their servers in #1024264966712340510 .
Thatโs been an option?!?!?!?!? How come no one ever shares their fish ponds?
I imagine because fishing is mostly underutilized by players ๐
I've seen a few in #screenshots , but you need to be very picky about location otherwise waves during storms will wash them out, they can jump out, etc. Some players ring the pond with roofs sloping in so that fish can't jump out, etc.
It is trash
Makes me want to make a giant lake
also the other problem being can't make a pond on higher ground
it isn't worth the time, I agree (outside of fish wraps)
Well pond with a house on stilts over this enrich
Unles you want fish or just want to fish as a relaxing activity, then it's nice.
Yeah. I just happen to have an absolutely perfect location for it right next to my base, but it's not common. Gotta find it in a bay, inland so waves aren't as high, you can dig it easily, etc.
Wish they'd add a way to make our own ponds with a system similar to tar
Yeah but you know what would work out really well is those thin rivers you can almost jump across. Raise the ground on either end then lower it on the shores for a big ole pond
I really want to love fishing in Valheim
We need crsftable aquarium water
Uses too much stam, imo. Also not enough reward.
feels more tedious than worthwhile
also apparently loxes know how to climb on top of each other... one of these assholes just gave the other asshole boost and just walked out of the pen ๐
This is why I hate taking lox haha
They know how? It's like their favorite hobby
Cost opportunity is high with fish
Queen drop will be glassblowers pipe. You can make crystal bottles and store water in them. Helps survive Ashland's and build aquarium.
Not really but I like the idea ๐
I would make a joke about raising that fence but I don't want to quota that another asshole...
All the tames do the clown stacking thing it's just most prominent and annoying with lox
how about making a dry pond for the fishies
excellent
If you got a moat which is deep enough, why not use that as a "pond"?
put piranhas in the moat
Isn't that just pufferfish?
Pufferanhas.
The problem is that they don't swim right unless it's wide enough as well as deep enough
A "standard" moat - 10m wide, 8m deep - is wide and deep enough to get them moving.
I did that at my plains base in an MP game I used to play.
what are maypoles for?
adding comfort
O_O oooh ok
You asked.
Also decoration.
no i mean i thought it had something to do with farming. but if they add comfort that's 1 more minute to rested timer ๐ amazing
or i thought it had no purpose beyond decoration. but they add COMFORT?!? MAYPOLES - HERE I COME ๐
How do yall record videos of your playtime? Like I wanna record a 30 second video of my base
i use NVidia for anything but its unreliable
OBS is pretty good
if your drivers arent updated and you dont check them sometimes you just wont be able to use it
Windows got a recording option as well
Let me clarify nvidia gefore experience
My PC is brand new and pretty legit.. windows 11 has an option then? Iโll have to look in to it
Also, thumbs up for nvidia stock investment 3 months ago ๐ค๐
๐ you up?
Just a little lol
nice nice
Windows key + [alt] + G brings up the entire option.
Windows key + [alt] + R starts and stops the recording.
is my moat a little too deep? #screenshots
I'd only use it if can't bother to install anything else and don't need it for anything too important
Too deep for what? Only issue is if you can't get out of it if you fall in.
Too deep for anything i mean surely theres a limit to where youre just digging to dig lol
as in all mobs get trapped but deeper
8m is the max below or above the beginning ground level so too deep is only a matter of preference ๐
ahh okay thank you
max depth is fine, mobs will not path find their way down there
how does a moat even work? cus if theres a bridge closed off surely they just break the doors to the bridge and go through?
The music in the Plains always reminds me of a really sad arrangement of "Home on the Range"
yes. Which is why you don't wanna have a bridge if you want the base to be fully safe
frick
Could always jump over the moat, or make a bridge but just have the bridge not fully connecting. If there's just a small gap between the bridge and the ground mobs cant pathfind onto it
i made the moat barely jump over-able
I'm not sure monsters can patfhind over core wood logs?
I think its possible to create a bridge you can traverse but monsters cannot
also iron buckler or silver shield?
They can, but I think they have problems if there's a 1m gap between them
Silver shield ๐
can it parry all the dmg like the iron buckler?
silver shield ๐
or does it parry at all?
yea. It kinda sucks its only a 1.5x multiplier but it'll still be better than the iron shield because its a tier higher
You can also pick a style when building a silver shield
no, I've build a city wall made only of fallen logs it works fine
You mean fallen logs and making a bridge out of it? We were talking about corewood construction, and if you do 1m gaps between each cross-member the enemies can't pathfind over it IIRC.
use vertical shafts to push the logs around, you can place it inside a fallen log and it'll shove it until it's outside. repeat as oiften as needed, and use it as a fulcrum when you need to turn the log
that's different then. I don't build anything on the floor
There is a better way to handle mobs for security if you like to build on flat ground, but let me count the distance between underground security posts
8 long corewood between tier 1 benches with a stone cap over them, in a diamond pattern
should i do 2 health and 1 stam or 1 health and 2 stam food for bonemass?
Solo or fighting with friends?
solo fight
1 hp and 2 stam. but bring posion resist
I go health-heavy in solo battles planning on it taking a long time.
I've found I can more easily extract myself from the battle to rgain stamina than I can to regain health.
Walk away, chug Tasty Mead, go back in whereas you can only do that w/ health every 2 minutes.
but that could depend a lot on a person's play style
stamina if you're skilled, health if not.
oh i didnt know tasty mead had really good buffs
It helps for getting stamina back quickly and you can drink one every 10s instead of 2m.
1 health 1 stamina 1 jerky. Perfectly balanced
Surely 4 meters tall fence is tall enough to keep these acrobat loxes in the pen right?
... right?
4m? Like, a single corewood pole? Ehh.. as long as they don't get too feisty. I've seen them stack up three high.
god damn these stupid lizards
The problem with Jerky is that it has vastly inferior total stats. It's fine for a resource-efficient base food, but it's generally a terrible idea for boss fights, etc.
eh, was perfectly fine for moder. but wouldn't use in plains anymore
bread for example is quite easy and simple food for replacing jerky
well takes more effort since kinda have to upgrade your kitchen game first...
i'll have none of this jerky slander in here >:(
yea! no need to be a jerk
If jerky wasn't so bad, it wouldn't need to be slandered ๐
starts a fight for no reason
the point is that it's vastly cheaper than anything else. cost-wise it's basically like leaving a food slot empty except you actually get some stats out of that empty slot.
Yeah. Like I said, an efficient base puttering food, but not really ideal for boss fights ๐
one ingredient farms itself (honey) and the other you drown in after spending 5 minutes in mountains (wolf meat)
I myself am I jerky lover ๐ค
I canโt eat jerky but I love jerk chicken
Turkey or pork jerky? It's not quite the same, but it can be tasty if the issue is beef
do too many torches cause a lot of fps lag?
yes
I believe there's a slider setting for reducing light quality which can help, but not 100% sure.
You can reduce the point light sources, which is basically how many lights can produce light at a given time. But yes, additional light sources = more lag.
I think it also depends on the type of light source. Like regular torches have an animation that drains performance, but something like a dvergr circlet on an item stand, or a ||wisp || torch is static and provides less performance issues
pretty sure only difference is that point lights create shadows = going to eat more resources. Setting point lights to 0 doesn't disable any of the light sources
They just don't create shadows
so i just gotta turn off shadows to reduce lag in my base?
Play with all those sliders. The other thing with bases is that if you have too many instances it's just going to be slow, period.
is there option/mode only for food drops to increase by like 0,5? (1,5). I am fine by all, but I hate farming animal parts/blueberries etc 1 by 1 for 2 people. Its taking so much time and by time I have some, I already ate half of them
unfortunately, no, you can increase the resource rate, which means you get more of everything, not JUST food
nope. Best option would be trying to find a mod for it or deciding to spawn in some once you've gone a trip to gather a bunch
so picking berry bush gives you 2 berries if resource rate is x2, but that means doing anything else gives you x2 rate, like getting wood, getting stone
Is your friend doing their part in farming and foraging? Might help ease the burden.
a true friend never do that, they afk in the house and let the time flows by
I find 1.5x to be pretty reasonable as a solo player, and is likely enough for a multiplayer context. It's a little OP with like, cores and such since it straight up doubles single drops, but otherwise it feels "right" without being too grindy.
nuh uh. True friends use their time proactively to use your resources and food to upgrade their own gear and go adventuring but not bring anything back
at least surtling cores are overly abundant anyway as soon as you find a geyser
Yeah, more so with the black cores and such
the pain when my friend eats all the luxury food like Cooked Serpent meat + serpent stew just so he can visit swamp
while i was pinching pennies and eating deer stew, minced meat sauce and carrot soup
Build a personal chest! and put all your food in it. Or, bury your chest in the floorboard of your house. That's what I do.
A good friend would provide their friend with good food to go to swamp so he/she can stay safe!
yes he did eat cooked serpent meat just like that, and i still weep
Also I eat cooked serpent + serpent stew + sausages in swamp sometimes
well, he was clueless, so i can still forgive him, it is game after all
a second option is to talk to your friend, lol
point is, it is overkill
Pshaw! Talking is for losers, better to punish your good friends with no context when they don't even realize what they did!
he knows, he was a bit confused since he didn't play too often, but once i said so he is receptive
for most people yea
because i spend time dwelling wiki and search for food duration and heal and best food for each biome
I've been hit by 200 damage in .2 seconds in swamp before tho, sometimes its nice
i still vote for hidden chest int he floorboards.
When I play with others we often have our own rooms, and just respect each other's spaces. But at the end of the day, you just need to talk and come to an accord, and if you can't you probably shouldn't be playing a co-op game with that kind of person.
its mainly cosmetic. Just makes you drink the mead that's closest to the top left of your inventory
You can equip it like a weapon, and it will drink your meads automatically from your inventory
tysm
I find it best used as decoration instead of functional, though ๐
mead horns are cool but what if they were useful! #suggestions message
ill try smth out with it
no, he builds houses etc, which I am not good at really haha
I am thinking, maybe create new world with 2x resources and go gathering there for a while, then return to our origin
another good option
You can just change your existing world to 1.5x too. You can change it back and forth at any time, there are no penalties to changing those options.
What if the end goal is killing Odin and the whole reason he did this was because he thought we'd never be tough enough to escape?
Or giant Hugin.
the snow boss is yagluth right?
ah moder
well how do i prepare for him? ive got all wolf armor, iron mace.... okay i should get a silver one nvm
whats the next weapon above the iron mace?
Frostner in the mountains, porcupine in the plains.
ah i see, how do i get ymir flesh?
Haldor sells it.
Buy it from Haldor
got it thank you
Also, better get yourself a good bow.
Moder will take off into flight once in while, so you need to shoot at her.
Or wait until she's landed before facing her with melee again.
got it thank you
what else should i buy? thunder stone? should i fish? dverger cicrlet yule hat? (ive got megingjord)
1630 coins on me rn
I'd say yes. Gold becomes kind of abundant and there's not much to spend on. Dverger circles are good light sources when placed on trophy stands. Thunderstone is useful for reducing the abundance of garbage you get
Dverger circlet may be useful for the ice caves and invested mines later.
Yule hat is just a "wanna have" item. Not very useful, but fun to have nevertheless
Fishing is a pass time that is only sort of okay... I'd get it anyway cause I wanna catch every fish
what do they do in ice caves?
Just 1 I believe?
yup just 1 i searched up
But you may want extra for other bases so I'd get a few more
They provide you with light.
So it's more useful as a torch
Frost can be seen as ice-damage and will slow down enemies.
That weapon will be very useful in the next biome.
ah okay, so what should i do for this boss? freeze him and switch to mace?
Last time I just used a bow the entire time
Draugr fang will still apply poison to wood arrows. It's slower but adds up
alright also thank you
I dug out a small shelter under the altar, added a fire and a workbench and attacked Moder with a bow and a lot of fire arrows.
Moder is imune to Frost, Spirt (two of Frostner's abilities) and stagger.
So a bow and fire arrows and a sword will be a better choice, I think
alright thanks, is blunt or slash better?
It'd be the same. Moder has no resistances. Only immunities as thorin mentioned
alright gotcha, i guess ill stick with iron mace then?
Just use your favorite melee weapon, as long as it isn't Frostner
woluld a club work?
joke
wym as long as not frostner
As far as I'm concerned you can even use a torch for the melee fight.
But it may take a while before she's down.
it is theoretical, as in you can just go ham with fists, but of course unless u r masochist, you don't do that
theres alot of crazy people playing valheim like the dude who defeated the game as a pacifist
wolfpacks are crazy so that isn't too hard
What, just pockets full of pufferfish and refined eitr?
Breeding an army of wolves to be a killing machine hardly counts as pacifist, tbh.
i know but its just impressive, some spots you cant get wolves in and hestill passed
for bonemass he glitched inside a tree and set wooden spikes inside to kill him cause he "voluntarily" walks into the spikes lool
took him about an hour and a half so the dedication is crazy
but the boss still has to be killed
wolves...
it was 3 years ago and i think he updated it last year. he got to yagluth at that time i think those were all the bosses
Impossible to do mistlands boss that way
Well mistlands boss didnโt exist back then so I assume he didnโt
he updated last year
here
id post a link but just search up " I Beat Mistlands as a Pacifist in Valheim "
Ah he used dead raiser
Raiser's skeletons are at least plains-tier strong.
Tho they do still have the same weaknesses skeletons do so a club fuling kills them easily. But they do still have merit
Especially against soldiers as them targeting skeletons means you can hit their backs
There's one workbench upgrade as well, but frost, poison and obsidian arrows are all very powerful in general.
alr thanks
Skeletons can get kinda busted on VH high Blood mag
300 damage per hit iirc, so 900 if each one takes a hit
Obsidian could really use some more recipes... Hopefully we get some with Ashlands. Heck it would even make more sense to get obsidian from there
do pufferfish float in water after they die?
fr obsidian is basically useless, im glad theres so much but theres one use, arrows, and you can find obsidian everywhere
Fish will come back to life if put in water
no i mean if they die do the parts float in water? do they sink?
@warped wing my headset ran out of battery
valheim in vr dude omds
I dont believe you can kill them?? Like you mean when they are beached or in your inventory?
they dont die
Fish dont die
oh ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
even if you hold them hostage in the chest for a full year straight, it still moves
fish in valheim is just shrimply built different
it's as shrimple as that
Time to make a lava pond for my invincible fish
Mm interested to see what'll happen when tossed in lava ๐
will my boat float away if i leave it by the shore?
Boats anchor/freeze when no players are nearby
okay thanks
also it will stop immediately when you jump off ๐
oh okay i was thinking it would float away with the waves
I always go full speed into an island and jump off right before it hits something
The only time a boat would "drift away" is when a monster tries to destroy it and pushes it further off the coast.
same ๐
also, for now, its possible to stop the boat in place by opening the storage, tho that will change in the next patch ๐
It's April, great movies and tv shows are coming out, this makes me feel like Ashlands is right around the corner
It could be, depending on how long around the corner means for you. It should be out in the first half of the year.
well they are less than a 3 months away ๐
Im going with April
Quick, someone check if there are any planned holidays in Scandinavia this month
Something tells me that if they were to release the ptb, it would be on a Thursday or Friday.
That way many people could have the weekend available to test while they rest until Monday
Iโm like cursed when I play this game, basically whenever I start a new world I have to go at least 20-30km from spawn just to find a swamp biome, more like 40-50 to find one with an actual crypt
Isn't that just in multiplayer?
i think i managed to did it on singleplayer? might be my memory playing tricks tho, will go check.
Yes, and it's fixed now anyway.
yea I'm not sure either
yeah, its not important in the slightest, but i will still check ๐
It's normal for boats to change position after parking? Had this happen a couple times. Intrigued at most
yep, only multiplayer it seems ๐
maybe mobs pushing it?
I've noticed spears are really bad at doing basic things that every other weapon can do
Like spears can't hit spawners, they're too low I guess
it is certainly a weapon you have to learn how to play with ๐
Throwing allows them to hit low targets
spears attack crazy fast for their damage tho
I thought the same Asatru. Noticed this happened typically after relogging. Where the boat would be aligned differently
It's really not helping that this Draugr spawner keeps spawning elites
Elites and archers
Make a mace when you can, youโll need one for bonemass anyway.
well not really "need" but it will certainly make the fight easier ๐
Draugr are quite vunerable to hits by an axe, as I've noticed.
i did not know that packing chicks too tight makes some of the chicken die
i threw 60 eggs into a room with fire and when i came back, already some feathers are on the floor
Free feathers
and after everything i got 57 meat, so 3 chicken died prematurely
Sounds like a quick way to farm chicken meat
Chicken, is not hen, hen is already grown up and chicken is not, so chicken die prematurely dont give guaranteed meat
Also not guaranteed feather either
Because if they do i wouldnt have wanted for them to grow up, i just need for eggs to hatch and then it is swinging time with butcher knife
wait did the boats recently make the flag thingy automatic?
i remember you could rotate them manually?
What flag?
on the boats the sail
The mast
mast yeah i remember thjey could be rotated m,anually what happened?
I donโt know, I probably havenโt been playing long enough.
i mean maybe like 5 months thats it
Well I donโt remember it thenโฆ Iโm sure sails always rotated automatically
hm it doesnt matter anyway its just a thing i remember
do i need to make an iron pickaxe to mine silver ore?
yes
man getting more iron scrap is so painful
Do you play raft?
nope never played it
theres a ladder on the side
Also the paddle can be used from the water
Did you mine anything on it?
That was a leviathan
yes some barnacles
Itโs a big creature
what was i supposed to do?
Thereโs chance per barnacle or something that it sinks
ah
You just got some really nice material for a knife or for the only nice way to move tames
If youโre in swamp tier progression or below the knife is really nice
That is bad luck my friend ๐
im mountain level what can i use it for
The "famous" harpoon
also what was i suppoed to do with the leviathan if i had the supposed appropriate gear?
You do have the appropriate gear
I found yagluth! Completely out of context in this conversation but Iโm absolutely hyped right now!
Well more than appropriate
Big win regardless
well how would i kill him?
Itโs been a pain, the relief Iโm enjoying right now is off the charts
You did the only thing you can with them. Mine
i thought u could kill them?
Nope
what are those leviathan scales people get? or what scales am i thinking of...
Serpent scales
ah okay those ones nvm
You can actually start a world, kill eikthyr, make an abyssal razor and just have an iron tier knife in the blackforest
Any pickaxe is all you need but faster ones give you more time
oh ok, well i saw an abyssal sword?
Donโt exist
i saw a recipe for it appear i swear ๐ญ
There is only the abyssal razor (the knife) and the abyssal harpoon.
So it was clear they meant the razor.
yeah i saw razor and sword
Are you using Mods?
There is no abyssal sword in vanilla.
That would explain it for sure
naw i probably saw wrong
Also explains it
Thereโs a lot going on when you pick up your first chitin and those recipes flash by
Also people of experience or that just know yagluth, I have a question fir them
Is yagluth really all that hard? Iโve seen prepare for it like theyโre going up against a โ2 starโ boss
We donโt have an answer for you though
Be prepared to play a lil running simulator and donโt forget fire resist
Of course, Iโm going to make some the second I get to
But after checking some stats, he doesnโt seem to be too much of a problem, definitely will have a few loxes with me.
Or am I missing something
You can find how to deal with him, his resistances and vulnerabilities at the Wiki.
But "a few Loxes" may not be enough.
I checked. Not sure, but isnโt chop against built items?
when do you get chickens???
After yagluth
alr thanks
1,5 resources modifier is 50% chance for double?
No, it means you get 1.5 times the resources. All resources that usually drop as a single item will be rounded up to double the drop.
i.e. a 2* draugr usually drops 2 entrails, but will drop 3 entrails with the 1.5 times modifier.
a 1* draugr usually drop 1 entrails, but will drop 2 entrails because the number (1.5) is rounded up.
ah thanks. Thats pitty, I would welcome boost to my world, but not exactly ,,double,,
lot of materials are alright, just food is taking so much time
isn't there already a x2 resource rate though?
last time i checked there is even a x3
correct ^
no lie detected
i am so losing my mind, the game is actively hiding Soft tissue away from me
i saw a place that looks like an excavation site, but it is infested with seekers so i don't think i will be there any time soon
yeah, thats why I thhought that 1,5 would be 50% chance for second material, which would be cool when playing as duo and not having ton of time
what else is there to mine on a leviathan other than barnacles?
You can also get them from Hildirs Quest sealed tower before killing Yagluth
aha okay thanks
there is no way i just departed from base, without eggs to moodor, i set the portal to the wrong name...
i meant modor
nothing, just barnacles
killing Yagluth dont give eggs, only unlocks option to buy eggs, from Haldor
1500 Valheim Money for 1 egg
i meant modor
free eggs in Sealed Tower though
idk why im even going im unprepared with no arrows ๐
Arrows are quite nice, but you can melee combat too
petition to remove greylings
train a wolf army, no more greylings near it
no, melee combat is so outdated, move to 100% arrow combat
And loose that free sparring partner to skill your parrying and blocking?
I prefer skellies especially the event for that
i wish the wolves just stay in 1 place, instead they keep running to Andromeda and then i never see them again, or maybe i see....what is left of them
i thought the wolves multiply fast when let outside cuz they hunt on their own, but instead they are so spread out that they don't even reproduce
while raids/ night time creature ( fulings) costs my wolves army dearly
in one of my worlds I have 2 wolf towers for 2 stars, unlimited wolfs didnt even miss it if I lost 40
Whatโs the point of all those wolves?
companionship? things to pet? they're beautiful? also fun to take 40 wolves to a fuling village
my first Yag kill was with 40ish wolves as well
Hmm I can understand the first 3 although itโs not what I lean towards.
Donโt they make fights boring tho? Iโd imagine you donโt have to do much of the wolves just run around doing all the work
my carrots vanished
They are relatively squishy even 2 stars but do a lot of damage, in Plains they die a lot and in Mistlands even more so if you take them there. The good thing is you can just take a smaller amount sometimes and still go out without wolves but I love to have them if I want to go on a RAMPAGE where I don't do the most damage and where they take apart a fuling village without me having to do anything to add variety if that makes sense
my carrots disappeared into thin air โน๏ธ
I mean they prob got destroyed by mobs?
Howdy fellow Vikings
i underestimated the fenris armor
โ๏ธ
I do have some mail armour being worked on, but it's a little less Viking and more Crusader-y.
Common mistake
the 9% is a BIG difference
On V hard I use fenris a good amount, even in mistlands
Even bigger if youโre switching over from heavy armor which gives -10%
Full fenris with a knife vs full wolf with a battle axe. Try out that movement difference ๐
Yea it does. No helmets do tho
I forgot to put on my 6% fenris on im so much faster omg
Which is why people often opt for heavy armor helmets because they protect but donโt slow
Run skill affects speed too, up to 25%! High run all fenris go BRRRRR
how it feels wearing fenring armor: i am fast af boi
it is just good using speed as a weapon
I like knives because they donโt slow you down. Dual wield knives and you donโt need a shield either
Fenris armor is just so cool
I prefer heavier sets (cosmetically), but wow the fenris set looks so good!
does fenris contribute to attack speed?
if it makes u run faster it should make u attack faster it only makes sense
Nope
That might make it too OP
But it does make the flesh rippers hit harder
And it makes you move horizontally while falling, faster
Im sad movement speed doesnโt let you swim@faster
chest makes u attack faster, remove the speed effect, legs make you faster
why a thumbs down ๐ญ it only seems right
Fenris plenty good already
And I think if you balance it by only giving a small effect to movement and small effect to attack it wouldnโt be noticeable enough
truee but moving faster makes sense to make u attack faster
Fenris confirmed slaps
ah ok yeah makes sense but its good anyway true
Kinda yea
I just want the other fenris effects to be more useful
what are the other effects?
Guys what is the new steam download... It's not the one, is it?
Was scheduled for Monday at 4:19am
Dunno about any scheduled ones but Ashlands isnโt out yet, PTB or fully
Heyo soft when are you ready to jump in
Fenris or the abomination chest piece. Both are god tier
๐ฏ, throw in serpent scale shield, pierce damage ain't nothing
Yes because running is literally the same as somehow becoming better at swinging weapons
Usain bolt must be the best swordmaster on earth
you've never played on hardcore then
Oh no.... I haven't. Yet
Might be able to join in in about an hour. Travel over there
I'm already here, need to sail a guy now before he goes to work
Even on Very Hard Pierce resistance shield with Pierce resistance chest piece makes seekers damage a piece of cake
If you're around to sit on the boat hop on otherwise I'll be back for you
Ah canโt rn. With directions I might be able to sail myself
Deathsquitos hit me for around 30 dmg with padded helmet lvl 2, chest harnesk and padded greaves on very hard.
1/3 of their base dmg on the highest difficulty. If I didn't hate them I'd feel sad
ah but I'm a mage and never take HP food, without pierce resist I'm instakilled. especially since I rarely eat more than a single meal to ration our supplies, those mosquito buggers just come out of nowhere sometimes. Typically I'm running around relatively safe areas with a single uncooked blue mushroom inn my belly
not in that way but it does makes ense
i found my first bits of fenris fur and such in a cave, sadly i think this bit of mountain won't find me another cave
Makes no sense to me that killing a Fenris doesn't yield Fenris fur ... is it just me or is that odd?
there was a draugr IN a rock
and i nearly died after travelling for 30 minutes by boat
Carry Port al materials in your boat
i have them on me but they were literally everywhere and one was INSIDE a rock
Yeah mobs sometimes spawn inside rocks, trees, etc. Even commodities can spawn in odd places.
I've found Tin deposit inside a large rock on the river bank ...
Just you.
It's a fenring, not fenris
why my moder gotta be near the plains man
Well that makes more sense now ...
can someone tell me if im ready for moder? #screenshots
Are ballistas supposed to shoot us?
Iโve always wondered when your sailing on a boat with an other player, and you disconnect, will you log back on still on the boat? Or just dumped in the ocean?
Iโve often logged out while on a boat and logged back on still on it, but always wondered that surely thereโs a bit of drift with weather while players are still online with the boat sitting on its own
I'm kinda sad we haven't seen a new ship yet.
Is there one with Ashlands? I thought there is
man it is raining hard in my world, raining in meadows, Black Forest, plains, mistlands
i mean, fenris is the big huge wolf about to eat the sun, so yeah, i guess there is a difference
why is moder so hard solo ๐ญ
and the rain somehow spawns way more fulings in plains
also, should i get fenris set or wolf armour?
How many players have found any iron gate easter eggs? Things I've noticed along the way, how the music changes around points of interest, cryptic messages on the runestones, etc. The one that got me curious says something like you are standing on a graveyard of mighty civilization... Has anyone ever found anything cool by digging? Just curious how many other players have noticed or found cool stuff along the way...
Yes, unless you target them by placing a trophy in them.
we a 1/4 of the way down from moder ๐
real easter egg: There is a build piece called Iron Gate in game, Iron Gate easter egg real ๐ฑ ๐ฑ
when the crystals of moder break after his air attack i keep thinking a golem is spawning lmao
i got moder lets goo
there is a serpent i am on a boat what do i do
land nearby but its swamp so risky
asks for a fight then dips bruh
oh it dieeed
i poisoned him and he died
soooo what do i do with serpent meat??? only thing i got
wait do scales sink?
*her
Wait blob raid is not turned off when defeating boneass?
Just got a fowl smell from the swamp message and sure enough it was blob
yes
thats awful to say the least
Best thing
but i wanted the scaes ๐
Serpent meat let you cook from iron cooking station or sth, gives u cooked serpent meat
thats balls icl
You dont need the scales, the shield u get out of scales is not that good
Though it do have pierce rez for the sheidl
oh its just the shield it can make?
Yes
its a very beautiful shield
Best thing is the meat and u got it, maybe its trophy too if u consider fishing
But idk if it sinks as well soooo
ok im glad i didnt get it then, it did sink
Yea u get banded shield, u r grucci
Scale shield is tower shield, so no parryin
Just pure block power
I parry with my staff
As i said best part is the meat, highest health food up to plains, and some of the highest health food in mistland, maybe top 2-3 or sth
And that is already crazy good
you're embracing the no-teleporting run even if you have teleporters
You will enjoy the power Moder gives you once you put her head on a hook
whats the power?
actually naw dpmt te;; ,e
idk what the frick happened there but dont tell me
yea I'm not gonna. Joy of discovery!
it wont let me see the powers
im hovering over her head
the power doesnt make sense to me lol
im sticking with bonemass
Bonemass is the goat
Maybe look at the stone instead
It provides favorable winds (tailwind) any direction you face for 5minutes
what does it say?
||Always tailwind to a boat|| which i understand but im still sticking to bonemass
bonemass is generally more useful. Moder is just for if you have a long sail and don't wanna get stuck in bad wind, like when you were sailing to find Moder. Can always switch it back when you get to your destination (just always have a portal where you switch powers)
Elder and Moder are very situational. Eikthyr and Bonemass are almost always useful
Like it makes the wind always in your favor
I hope Ashlands will give us a reason to use yagluth power
Bonemass kind of outshadows it
Yea hopefully there's more lightning damage
ah ok so ill just switch when im setting off
also is the artisan table an upgrade to a workbench or is it a workbench on its own?
The latter
what is a missile ๐ญ
Hmmm I wonder
idfk is it a rocket?
Oh seriously? Yes consider it a big big arrow or cross bolt
ah alright thanks
Ya like rakeity
rakeity?
Idk I translated to Polish
oh rakiety ๐ no thats also rockets
gotta figure it out! takes a bit to figure out tho
I had fun watching my friend struggle to figure out how to use it, and getting so excited each time he thought he was onto something only to end up disappointed
surtlings? I think 5 minutes
that stinks
always spawns 3
is it a 100% drop chance of surtling?
i killed 3 and only got 2...
give us water guns to shoot at surtlings
i lured a troll into the swamp and now he's duking it out with two wraiths ๐
good i hate them trolls
always chilling and them theres a troll, most of the time not even in the dark forest just on the edge
50% chance for surtling core
I'm surprised at how well a troll does against a small fuling camp
troll won O_O Wraiths died
nice
he also killed a blob. and some draugr. but draugr archer had the advantage ๐
i think leeches were there too
How many pigs can you guys keep before you start noticing any lag?
I can keep about 5 pigs before an accident kills them all
does enabling depth of field boost your fps? feels like it
build the breeder pigs up into the air
My pigs can't fly
ramp to the sky platform whatever
im building a stone bunker for my piggies rn
Pigs can't use stairs properly
roof ramp 26*
im gonna make it 2 stone blocks thick
push them up
I threw a fang spear, and it ceased to exist...
any ideas for where it could've gone?
i looked until i hit the ocean
are you eing sarcastic ๐ญ
i found it
several times further away than it should've been
It went over my 3 tall spike walls
stakewall*
will flying enemies tear through thatch roofs?
im starting to think my 2 stone black thick stone bunker for my pigs is gonna be useless if the enemies can just attack from above
They can eventually, but raid enemies will target you ahead of your base, so just don't try to hide inside and your livestock should be fine
so... what do i need to fight abominations? O_o (poison resistance mead obviously) but armour wise?
can they be parried?
OK... so i tried to block with my bronze buckler tier 3 - and i got pushed away - and survived with 23 Hp O_o
Arrows? And like good skills.
yeah probably fire arrows are best bet
i just used my bow with fire arrows
Fire arrows are safe. Bringing it to a fire geyser and rolling through its attacks or parrying it is good to keep it in place while it burns alive
Once you put some decent health food in your stomach you might be able to parry it with a levelled bronze buckler, or at least with an iron one
TIL, Seeker Soldiers have a swimming animation
aboms dont actually have any poison attacks, the poison mead would just be to help against the Leechs and Blobs in the swamps while youre fighting the abominations. But in my experience, Axes work best against them since theyre trees and all.
Howzit vikings?
I wonder if that was a late-stage consideration for the devs? Because, skeletons and draugr just 'benthic-sprint' their way at you.
no idea, i just dont normally encounter them next to water and was slightly amsued and terrified that they have a swimming animation
I actually discovered a fun way to manage soldiers recently. If you can get them up on a spire (read: raised rock, it doesn't have to be too high) in the mistlands and induce their smashing attack, they'll tend to just dig themselves into a hole in the rock and you can ditpatch them with leisure.
I don't normally do that, but it made the two-star soldier I found the other day a lot easier.
Im at the point where i no longer fear the Mistlands, the only things ive yet to encounter are Starred Gjalls. mainly because i dont tend to spend alot of the time in their at night, but if i can take starred soldiers i can take starred gjalls
Black Forest is almost worse than Mistlands at night after defeating The Queen.
we have no iron gear still in copper gear
whats the ideal way to chicken farm.
figured id get crackin on that while is i procrastinate fighting the Queen
You're deliberately going into swamps at night not having geared anything available there?
tbf you need to go into the swamps to get swamp gear
lol it was daytime when we went in
I was speaking with another person the other day about this... it seems that having separate hatching and laying coops seems to be pretty productive... unless you want to just build one of those battery-hen setups.
and was going back to boat and portal
Make sure you leave before night and are always rested
Not before it was night long enough for two wraiths apparently ๐
do i need to be in the area like breeding boars and wolves for the eggs to hatch or can i leave them and go do other things while they hatch
Yep. Spawning distance. I think it's something like 60m?
I've also noticed that sleeping doesn't seem to provide a benefit. Like - when I sleep having filled a furnace, the load is complete on awakening. With chickens, they just seem to pause laying when I go to sleep. I don't know whether that's intentional, an oversight, a bug, or just me having some kind of confirmation bias.
that i figured since sleeping doesnt speed up taming
Oh interesting... that might be the link. Good tip
64m you must be within, just stay in hide mode so you donโt agro, so sleeping doesnโt speed it up, just have to be semi afk for 30 mins(the time to tame uninterrupted)
All taming, and breeding you have to be there within a certain distance, 64m for taming, but not sure for breeding
I imagine you have to be within 4-8 inches for breeding ๐
Depends on the male
search new server
What am I looking for?
What am I looking for? ๐
wouldnt swords be better with a faster atack speed
parry > block usually
probably, but from what I've seen swords are not very popular choice among more experienced players
even if axe is worse, it's not by much. You will need an axe anyway so might as well use it as a weapon instead if you want slash damage
I run with the Mistweaver generally, but I still switch to a Blackmetal Axe for abominations. It's still easier with an axe.
I parry the first attack (edit: also running shield), and they remain stun-locked with the axe.
Axe is better because you always need to chop wood
Chop first, axe questions later
I usually build my chicken coop as part of a new base, so I tend to hang around while they hatch. You can definitely leave once the chicks are there, they'll grow up even without you being close.
If you want the hens to lay eggs, you need to be around again. I usually feed mine a stack of food before doing some base improvement, or a big smelting session. With my breeder setup a stack of 50 dandelion results in a bit over 200 eggs, which will cover my omelette needs for a while.
dont they also eat seeds?
not that it matters i guess dandilions are pretty easy to find
yep they do
50 dandelion results in a bit over 200 eggs
and if you farm them on bigger scale its good to grov some crops just for the seeds
Jesus christ thats insane
growing any seed crops usually results in some excess seeds, usually
or at very least it's easy to yoink a part of the harvest for them
Hell yeh! Plant seeds, store half of the products, and plant the remainder for more seeds. Then you can balance your input/output from there.
Seeds, barley or dandelion all work. I just happen to have stacks of dandelion kicking about, due to a horde of tame wolves hunting around my meadows base, and me going to clean up their mess every so often.
I been out of the loop for quite some time. Has there been any thoughts on runic inscriptions as some kind of loose magic system. Iโm reading the Futhark: A handbook of rune magic, by Edred Thorsson. Thereโs an extensive detail of inscribing runes on various objects to bestow them power , like a wand for example. With these inscriptions there are formulas made up of these runes in different patterns. These patterns are imbued with different intentions for different results. Iโd think it would be interesting for different buffs on weapons or armor or buildings for that matter. Even different runes show up in patterns in buildings of the time. Just a random thought.
Dandelions are my chook feed. I'm not wasting plantable seeds on those feathered dumbarses.
hmm... I did some calculations and seems like there's no difference between barley and seed plants for the amount of food you get for hens.
To build on that. Thereโs extensive writing on also striking a pose thatโs associated with each rune in attempt to evoke different energies.
No, i don't think the food itself influences laying rates. There's just 'hungry' hens, and 'happy' hens.
barley gives 2 per harvest and we have to assume you have to replant that other one, so you get 1 per barley per harvest.
lets say you have a carrot, you'll get 3 seeds. Now you'll have to replant 1 of them and you can use 2 of the seeds... but now to get more seeds you'll have to wait for that 1 carrot to regrow again and then replant it as seed plant to get seeds, so 2 harvests for 2 seeds (to feed)
and with barley it's the same, 2 harvests for 2 barley (to feed) per plant
I'm not going to check that math, but I will say - if you're feeding your hens anything but dandelions, you're wasting resources.
and if you collect dangelions to feed them you're wasting time
easier to just grow barley
Dandelions are part of your travels. Pick them up as you go.
I maintain four hens, and I can grab three dandelions inside my home base.
besides, dandelions have far better use, such as healing mead
I can get (I think) 12 dandelions just collecting drops from dead enemies after sleeping a night, around my base.
Why are you contradicting me, then?
because you're using them to feed hens?
when there's far better use for them available
barley barely takes any effort since you can easily harvest it with atgeir
Both strategies are valid. Different resources for different situations. If you have access to dandies, use them. If you have a lot of excess seeds, use them. Just depends on what you have available and how fast you need to feed the chickens.
ยจthere is also better use for barley tho ๐
but barley is very easy to upscale to meet both demands
but yeah, its much easier to farm, however i dont see a problem with using dandelions when you have them
if there's excess of them sure, but I sure don't
Now let's talk about how superior the strategy of taming boars versus killing wild boars is...
Ah ok, I see. I'll concede that dandelions might be better used elsewhere while progressing but, for me, they are definitely the best hen food having killed The Queen. I probably shouldn't be advising people that are still progressing.
and even if I had I'd rather just store them and use them later
ah, more changes from killing bosses
Kill 'em All! And, play the same-titled Metallica album while you do it. ๐ Seriously though, in my experience, taming boars is worthwhile, but it's short-lived. I outgrew boar meat real quick, and boar skins are forever useful, but also really easy to obtain when boars become a trivial combat.
you can still farm boars to feed them to wolves if you still eat skewers
unfortunately wolves have not seen the light and learned the benefits of cannibalism
(for the player)
(I say this from the perspective of having my main base in the meadows - when your nightime encounters become more powerful, you can easily wake to a lot of deer, neck, and boar drops.)
oh wait... I'm farming loxes for meat, but it feels wasteful to give such big chunky piece of meat for them ๐
look at the size of it, and the taste ๐คค
well 2 star boars are probably more effective for getting highest amount of meat per animal? probably... if I remember right they grow faster than loxes
I'm still also kind of hoping we would see a new tameable animal in later updates that could be fed boar meat
I'm not convinced the effort to find starred tameable animals is a nett gain over just farming them at their base level.
they're quite easy to find when you go to meadows further away from the spawn point... also the world I use for mass cutting wood and mining stone instantly gave me a 2 star boar... no use for it so it's still there. In my main world found 2x of those 2 star boars near... Hilde Hilda whatever she's called. It's next to plains
I've never really ran into a situation where I'm really in need of large quantities of boar meat or leather scrap that taming and breeding boars would provide. I've left more boar meat and scraps behind than I've ever needed.
not if you stop beaing in meadows
I don't really understand why anyone would want to try and base themselves outside of the meadows, given the facility for portals.
plains look better and close to everything relevant in later parts of the game for sailing
I haven't gotten that far in my no portal/no map world yet. Still trying to sus out a crypt for iron...so maybe I'll feel the crunch later.
I have portals.
last I checked metals do not go through portals, unless enabled
The solution...bring your base to the metal. ๐
mistlands right nearby, I am in plains, swamps nearby, mountains nearby... but to be fair meadows is also close enough to swamps and mountains, usually
No, fair. That was a slow period for me. But when I got to Mistlands, it's really not that hard to obtain copper and iron to establish yourself. Also, the products of metals usually go through portals.
Right? It's just metal bars and ores that dont?
also few other things (from hildir and from mistlands for example)
And those spikes (I forget the name) that you stab into roots to get sap in Mistlands.
I prefer just filling my longship with metal and bring it home. at least to me that is less effort than taking the very same voyage to bring metal to new location so you can make things required to craft stuff
well... guess could always carry around that stuff in case you need it. but I'd always forget doing that lol
I guess it just depends on how far the trip is, and how many trips your need to make. If it is more than 2 and is a very long distance, establishing a new outpost may be more efficient.
Yeah, I've been thinking of what would constitute a outpost establishment checklist.
For sure! I do this a lot. To qualify, I've kiled The Queen and I'm basically spending my time exploring. I've found it relatively simple to establish myself anywhere and bring a bunch of Surtling Cores through a portal to give me the ingots that I need.
I always forget a stack of flint.
it least it can be brought through the portal even on normal settings... if you have portals enabled
Seen fairly good amount of Geralts here, me? I love portals
In my no portal/no map/ hardcore death penalty game, I died in the middle of a gigantic black forest area. Woke up completely naked and with no flint to make a level 2 worstation, so couldn't use any of the deer hide to make armor. Took me 3 days to locate some flint...3 days of running around naked. Ah...good times.
๐
Made a full set of deer armor, accidentally stepped in my campfire, died again losing it all. Ah...good times.
So far no lox escape attempts... but if I see another one escape after raising my fence from 2 to 4 meters, I swear to god I'll install spikes to keep them in
btw surely I'm not the only one who made a 2nd world for exploting resources? Don't like it how it looks like after I've gone through an area stripping it clean for resources so might as well do that in a world I do not care about (wood and stone only)
Eh...I feel like that is cheating. I'd actually prefer of we could somehow isolate the world files from outside influence like what you are describing. Only resources available come from the world itself.
doesn't really make a difference when you can just make portals to transport it all. I'm spending more time swapping between worlds than I'd spend hopping through portals just to preserve beauty of the world
so I'm cheating to spend more time?
If you are bringing in resources from another world, yes, I would consider that cheating. But if you are okay with it, who am I to tell anyone how to play the game?
you're calling it cheating to use a feature of the game...
and it gives me no benefit either...
Might as well just spawn in the resources...same thing in my opinion.
okay dude
What is the optimum fps?
Over 9000!
Whatever you can stomach?
whatever you your PC can handle without taking a hit in performance, but don't think more than 60 does much ๐
Cool, Iโm currently handling with 130+ fps
yea, that's perfectly fine
Thanks.
Hnnngggg. ๐ซ
In contrast, I'm usually seeing around 40 on my potato PC.
I get 230 fps on the loading screen ๐
