yes
I have completely went through all of them with 2 friends and havent found a single door nor cultist
Are you on the current PTB, or are you on the general release?
20 caves and no cultists sounds impossible
I've seen them before
There's an issue with the beta being investigated specifically with that. If you're using it you should check in #valheim-public-test
okay. Couldn't find any info about this bug on patch notes, so came here to ask
wrote in #valheim-public-test too
Yeah, it's not going to be in patch notes if it was discovered in the current testing 😉
For what, ooze bombs?
yea
can I simultaneously summon two or more biome bosses at different locations?
Yes.
Well, not at the same time as you'd need to travel from one altar to the other, but summon boss at one altar -> portal to another altar and summon another one there is perfectly doable.
You can summon as many bosses as you want, as long as you have enough summoning items.
And bosses won't ever despawn (until you kill them 😈 )
cant they be killed by other enemies though?
i now actually wanna see how bonemass would do in the mountains
Bosses are allied with all other mobs in the game, they are only enemies with the player faction.
so they wont be atacked by drakes?
thats lame
Only Dvergr or tamed animals, if you consider either of those enemies
Well they'd probably get attacked but i figure he's more into making music than playing Valheim
'music'.
Increases anytime you sneak. But increases significantly faster if sneaking near an enemy (I know friendly dvergr count too, dunno if tamed mobs count). Not sure if it increases faster if the mob is aggroed on you
did anyone ever reach 100 sneak? is it hard? how good do you sneak at 100 skill?
I find it faster to just kill things up front or lure them away
It’s a pretty good increase but don’t think it’s super insane. Not rly worth it to grind to 100 imo
I haven’t been that high personally tho. Visibility in area also matters (not sure how that is calculated, I know sneaking at night tends to be easier)
Is it even worth getting a wolf? How will i transport it around
you wouldn't, youd set up a teleport at the base with the tamed wolves, id assume
Tamed animals cant go into teleporters
yeah, then use them for meat and furs, im no expert though
Create a platform with a ramp near your boat. Use this to push the wolves into the boat
how do you get it off after?
Break the boat
wolves are somewhat easier to get on and off boats than boars, they will follow you right to the edge of a platform, so make one above the boat, walk on the boat, wait till the wolf reaches the edge, jump over it, and push it on, then tell the wolf to stay, make sure there are no mobs in the vicinity for the wolf to aggro on, and after the journey put it back on follow and it will jump off the boat right after you
boars/hens need the addition of a harpoon for ease, and lox, until you can make a lox saddle, in which case you just ride the lox onto the boat and park it
also never risk your only tame, always breed more and leave some spares in case anything goes wrong
Yesterday I learned that biomes can blend together. I found a burial tomb in a meadow biome and a mountain biome as well as a greydwarve encampment in the mountains. Also found a snowy meadow and a snowy black forest. Pretty neat stuff
It is! Always fun to see 😄
Ye it happens quite a lot when map is generated and not enough space for biome is assigned. It can turn into fun combinations. I had meadows with snow and dark forest plants and enemies.
I believe the goal was to make a mountain biome between meadows and dark forest
Mountains will spawn in any biome where the altitude is over 50m.
Mods?
Vanilla
I sincerely doubt that in vanilla Valheim
if there was no snow, then there was no mountain.
the biome borders shown on your map/minimap aren't the same as the ones you'll actually encounter in-game. in-game they get chunked up into bigger blobs
the only way for actual mountain terrain to be near sea level is if a river cuts into it
It was snow on flat ground with dark forest trees and meadows grass
was there 3D grass/moss?
Biome said It was mountain and I got freezing effect
Flat ground is certianly possible. At sea level? No.
unless we're speaking in terms of realistic distances 😅 because Y 50 irl would be very close to sea level indeed
Maybe i overestimated the sea lvl part but it was no higher then average meadows
Meadows can be at a very high altitude naturally
meadows in the center of the world are sometimes a very high plateau just below the mountain minimum, because the terrain around the center is raised for a certain radius but not allowed to go above mountain height
Yea it is annoying for me from time to time that there is so many hills on most biomes
That's why you'll often see more meadows blended into mountains on the "starter" island as opposed to distances further. Past a certain point from the stones you'll more often run into black forest dipping into mountain
And also why it's quite rare to find swamp straight into mountain biome
Swamps need to be low
I created a world that was all hilly at the start point, so I made a new world :p
think i've only seen that once, and i didn't bother to check if they were actually touching or if the snow just happened to bleed over far enough.
wish i had written down what world and seed that was on 😅 i like the look of a snowy swamp
Yep, so even though it's technically possible it's pretty unlikely. Like Winter said, the only time I've encountered mountain at sea level is if the terrain is disturbed by a river, in which you'll see a very steep slope
My current seed has it, even though I no longer use the base, I had a black forest base that required me to sail through a "freezing" riven to get to my port. Was pretty annoying
there are some islands with extremely steep sloped sides. since rivers are applied after biomes, those island shapes are the only way to get a swamp touching mountain
small tip that can microscopically in situations like that: weather (and by extension the freezing effect of mountain weather) depends on where your camera is, rather than your character.
so as you're entering the mountain part of the river, zoom out as far as you can and look forward to delay the weather change a little, and then once even the camera is inside, turn it 180° to get the camera out of the mountain again before your character.
it covered a fairly wide area so that trick didn't work.
Interesting
It was a non-conditional 45-50 hp damage DoT even if I used the trick. upside is that I couldn't possible leave my base without eating decent food.
I have not done fishing yet... does it make good foods? Better than other foods?
Not until literally end-game(currently)
It's a fairly small bonus for the effort required
But if you like fishing, do it
k
this game is too fun, it starts to suck all of my time preparing for exams
I wouldn't call Plains endgame.
anyways i now pay the price for that by staying up the entire night, exam is coming in 12 hours
you live by the valheim you die by the valheim
I'd say chances are if you're fishing pufferfish with misty bait you're already confortable with plains
Yeah, but you were talking about fish in general.
hunting Lox is pretty easy, i tell u that
just the killing part can suck haha
What is the best way to move ore around?
so misty bait is pretty easy to get, just that the mosquito can one shot your arse if u r not using root harnesk
with mods, portals. without mods, boat. keep a boat as close as possible to every area you are mining. or build a full forge set up whereever you go
so that is a problem to deal with as well, but otherwise it is just shoot and run
with cheats: F L Y
Without mods, using world modifiers.
We're talking about foods from fishing specifically that are better than other foods, as per the question so when comparing the benefits to the same biome, we don't see any actual benefit until later plains/mistlands which I would consider current endgame
playing vanilla, I made new bases near ore.
just go fish, sometimes getting misc items from fish like ores, sap, money is fun
even though the main reward is not, because other than a certain food, there isn't many raw fish sink to throw fish at
Eh, fish wraps are some of the best Plains tier health food. So not even the CURRENT final biome.
👍🏻
Yes but you can use any fish pulled from early biomes to achieve that. You specifically need lox trophies to craft misty bait, and then head to the shores of the mistlands biome to fish pufferfish. Quite a disparity in requirement imo.
Why are you bringing up misty bait? You're changing the requirements of the discussion to prove your point.
How else would you fish pufferfish?
haha tha's complicated
If you’re not wearing root harnesk or if you’re eating really shitty or all stamina food
No-one was talking about pufferfish.
very true. giving the economic ability of each type of fish per different bait type. overall its better to stick to plain old fish for the wraps than going out of your way for the better fish
it is crazy to eat all stamina food while not doing stamina intensive activities
So, if you just get regular fish without special bait, it'll beat regular foods?
Well then you shouldn’t be getting one shot. How much armor do you have?
No.. Which was the entire point that I was bringing up.
like mining, house building, fishing, at least fishing you will encounter serpent, which long stamina bars let u kill it, not long health bar
it doesnt matter how long the health bar is when the ship is sunk and u r bobbling in the water
if you make it into fish wraps, it's pretty good, yeah. unless you're brimming with serpent meat.
The ONLY time in the game where fishing certain fish will give you a benefit over current biome food, is Fish'n'bread specifically from pufferfish.
it used to happen when i am in BF biome, the mosquito was like a dozen mile away and it just happens to come and sting me
Or, fish wraps in Plains if you're after health foods.
You're confusing pufferfish with angler fish.
now with root harnesk i began to farm needle for needle arrow, the finest of em all
Fish wraps and lox pies aren’t too different. Just depends if you prefer hunting fish or lox (or if you want two plains health foods active at once, both)
70-23 for fish wraps, 75-24 for lox meat pie, so yeah.
You're right, my mistake but the requirements are identical
oh wow might as well clear the lox
So, it's not better.
No, it's pretty much the same, yes. And if you're using a HHS build then you can use both.
As SoftSnail said.
So, it's not better?
Stat wise no. Not better than lox pie
Well, I’m not sure how much hp regen they both give
I'd say 90 stamina is quite good?
Both 4Hp/tick.
Is there any other food in the game that gives 90 stamina?
Okay so the 4/tick is the same, what about max stamina? Is there a difference?
Why are you so opposed to the objectively correct answer? Stop being difficult
He asked a very simple question, and it's a fact that Fish'n'bread fished only from anglerfish give the most stamina in the game for 1 singular food.
Either sea serpents detect metal or draugr are texting them whenever I leave with load of iron. I travelled around the ocean to uncover the map before getting to swamps and I encountered one serpent during storm. Now my third load of iron and 3rd sea serpent. And on the calm waters
people are wrong for fishing, this guy is the only one who knows the secret jijitsu - hunting fish
like actually go out of his way like a shark, devouring every fish in sight
I've never gone for fish much, but literally just working on my base I've gotten 4-5 stacks of raw fish from fish stranding on my shore. And that's without cooking the tier 3-5 fish that I wanna hang up on a wall
i picture a man in a longboat with a abyssal harpoon in hand, ready to reel in any fish he encounters
In the rivers You can basically push the fish out of the water
So no need for fishing rod
I will say though the feeling of fishing your own tier 5 fish out of the water feels so good
There were kinda two convos going on at the same time. Lox pie vs Fish Wraps, and Fishn bread vs all other stamina food. Yes, Fishn bread has the best stamina stat in the game currently from one food, so is better statwise than other stamina options
id like an option to stand on the shoreline and spear fish like fishing
Go check the very first question, in which this whole point started. Here I'll even help you.
this one right here
So, am I wrong? Any other fish-specific meals in the game that give you an edge over biome specific foods?
I believe fish'n'bread is the only one?
It is indeed
you'd be correct then. at least in terms of how you obtain the different kinds of biome specific fish
Damn that's crazy, so why are people arguing against me and trying to be little twerps for no reason?
better food from fish would be a cool improvement, make fish gathering worthwhile
I'm just out here trying to give actual answers, people need to stop trying to shit on it.
Think they were just trying to be helpful. But I think there's other factors to food too. I personally prefer food with slightly lower stats but it being easier to make
Me too, there's no way I am going to spend the time getting misty bait, to get anglerfish, just to get fish'n'bread it's personally not worth it but that doesn't change the fact that it's still technically best in slot.
Because as per the original question you so kindly linked, yes, fish wraps ARE some of the better foods in Plains complared to the others.
The question never mentioned stamina once. Obviously fish'n'bread has the highest stamina value.
I don't even have words for you. Please re-evaluate what you just typed.
Calm down honey, no need for that.
Am I wrong though?
If we qualify it as fishing, I also want to throw serpent stew in the ring as a contender. That delicous stew gives 25 hp more than sausages 💪 . Carries me thru swamp and Moder fight tbh
Insulting him? Yes
No, am I factually correct?
I don't see why I can't harpoon fish and drag their corpse back
That is the point, that was the point from the beginning.
It wasn't. You even linked the original question. Stop being obtuse.
I can't even imagine people are so conceited they'd go this far to try to prove someone wrong, whilst also being so sadly incorrect.
You aren't being helpful you're just being spiteful.
This is when mods usually step in and tell people to chill
or just time you out with no warning
Eh, no, blocking works just fine.
I think the mods are checking on which longship they have to drop these people to get them send off to the frozen north. 😄
What more can I even say? You don't have to believe me. It's a simply google search away. It's wild.
I think this should be settled the viking way. Hand to hand combat
There's always a warning, make sure you don't have Carl-bot blocked as that's where you'll get the message.
Unless it's an auto-mod trigger, but you can usually work out why they happen.
not blocked anything so no
I've said my piece, anyone reading all this can simply google the question they had and they will ultimately come to the same conclusion I offered. Have fun and remember: If you aren't sure, instead of just blurting out that someone is wrong, you should definitely check before you do!
they'd have to get in line to take a shot at Derek i think
Why Google when the Wiki exists?
google finds wiki links
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18CIv39YFMqIhB8horGHsp2OrTB4e5zcscHPotUR8MbU is also a great resource.
See? This. This semantic-arguing bollocks. If you're so opposed to being wrong, try educating yourself first so that you aren't in the first place. Seems pretty fool-proof.
I genuinely have better shit to do, so I bid you adieu. All this from just trying to answer a very simple question, mind you.
And I s'pose you're the one who's selling the tickets?
I call exclusive rights to the betting pool
please im one of the first fists flying for first round
On another note, we need more fist weapons
agreed. bronze knuckles, shield spikes
Or at least a shield bash
Would be nice if we were able to set up a shield wall in MP as well.
Not that it's of much use vs blobs, oozers and growths, but it'll be fun to use against boars.
Or Draugr.
also agreed. would 100% pull a ragnar goign over the top to kill shamans in a village
Atgeir, from bronze till ember staff
I like the range on the Atgeir, and the full roundhouse swing
id be very useful with a shield wall option. poking through the shields to land massive damage
Well considering armies had that option from the time of the Macedonean kings up to the 16th century, it would certainly work.
i still want the ability to line shields up on the longship. ship fighting isnt visable
but itd look cool as hell for MP servers just lines of longships all carrying shields as they sail in
Just as long as it are the round shields.
I don't think using the scale shield or bone shield would be a good idea.
Although the whole side of a ship filled with the latter might scare the bukeperries out of a Greydwarf Shaman. 🙂
the ability to change the ship's mast head wouldnt go amiss either
especially if they plan on following through on the faction idea for PvP
I want to decorate my ship
Seconded
aww man, I feel like I'm always late to the drama
Start your own drama
be the trend starter
ehh, cba to. I prefer active popcorn
throws tankard at head
hey question is the valheim version on xbox gamepass moddable?
can i download nexus mods and use it with my pc game pass client?
Can't be. The trent starter is the one some ppl are lining up for to punch him.......
SKOL
Oi! My mead!
How could I catch it if you snatched that tankard from the table before I could even reach for it?
Spilling mead is a crime
good thing it bounced off and he caught it without spilling 😛
Think I'll stick to a troll skull in the future.....
here have another throws tankard
Slanja!
And now I'm wondering if we do even have drinking horns in the game.
i think its purely mods at this point?
Considering we don't even have animals / enemies with horns, I guess so.
no, there's a couple -- vanilla
A couple of drinking horns or a couple of animals with horns?
Boars have tusks, but those are too small for creating drinking horns.
Oh true i had forgotten about that
I believe the mug is also technically a drinking horn as well (just a short stubby one)
Not sure if that's a good idea, though.
I mean, you play this game with your wife, convert the celebratory horn to celebrate your wedding day in a drinking horn.
I think there should be better reasons for her to kill you........
You're a viking, your wife should always be trying to kill you for fun
First rule of viking: never piss off the shieldmaidens
Actually, the first rule for vikings was:
Rememeber where you beached the longship when going on a raid.
Thats rule 7, right behind always have the longship beached close to the mead hall
Rule 2: never start a fight you have no intention or ability of seeing through to the end
Rule 3: the gods love to see you fail, as much as see you succeed. Never forgo the chance to bend the odds in your favour
anyone else reminds this game similar to terraria? beside 2d but like the progression
survival crafting is a whole genre at this point
I dunno.
Never played Terraria.
But considering there was a big influx of survival / crafting sandbox games when Valheim became a hit, it doesn't surprise me at all.
get resources from area 1, move to area 2, get resources and move to area 3
with a little test at the end of each
terarria and several others (like don't starve, which is a bit closer imo) were around prior to valheim
enshrouded is very similar btw (speaking of those games that came after)
With the big exception that Enshrouded resets the entire map the moment you log on again.
there are many exceptions, because it's similar
You think?
You mean when you loot chests in a village in Valheim, the next time you visit that village the contents of that chest has been respawn?
If you defeat a boss, that boss respawns the next time you log in?
Enshrouded does that, making farming some items so easy, it's even painful to do so.
I don't think you got what I said
enshrouded map reset is one of many exceptions
because the games are similar, not equal
the loot system, weapon upgrades, NPCs, the 1x1 block building, cave building, graphics, combat
If you start looking at it that way, Valheim is similar to Wurm Online and Life is Feudal: Your Own.
well, it is
people often also draw similarities to conan/ark
Because most ppl don't even know about WO and LiF:YO
which also has that awful system of respawning stuff in the same places
really depends on what you look at as to if it's the same. I got the Valheim feel from Ensrouded. But I didnt keep the game, idk why now.
the basic movement / graphics feel was very similar
it didn't look particularly interesting from the videos I saw of it
Enshrouded was interesting, but the chest and boss reset and those darn jumping puzzles put me off.
It's much more co-op focussed as Valheim is.
there was another game that seemed interesting until I learned it was entirely first person, which put me off quite a bit actually
teeeccchhnically speaking, fish wraps are the worst Plains tier health food. Just saying... 😂
There's very few games i like... AO AOE D2 Valheim ... a few others, old stuff... games with some genius behind them.
maybe my cats will like them
I'm already glad we got far behind the type "open door" to open a door in a building, just to see this appear: The door opens creaking and reveals a dim lit room.
And yes, I'm that old
You have died of dysentery
the door is slightly ajar
Why? Text adventures are excellent. Limited only by your imagination.
go n
and being eaten by grues
I'm obligated to point out that y'all are veering offtopic~
You have died of dysentery in the swamp biome.
Well, except for bread and blood pudding.
Bread is stamina food;
Blood Pudding is stamina food.
My point stands. Fish Wraps are the worst Plains tier health food
The health values for bread and blood pudding are far lower than for fish wraps.
therefore not considered health foods by TwoFox
cooked lox meat begs to differ
They are not, however, categorized as "health" food. I'm simply responding to your own wording
lol, true facts 😂
Are we doing this again?
Well, that wasn't the argument, but whatever. I'm too tired for another pointless argument.
No.
Who said anything about arguing? I'm just correcting you, since I saw you giving out false info again
is it cause I'm finally here and ready for it? 🍿
Nothing I've said all night has been factually inaccurate.
excuse me? who'se the one giving out false info?
Settle down now, y'all
Except for that thing you said about Fish Wraps being one of the best "Plains tier Health Foods"
Demonstrably false. The numbers don't lie, Derek
Hands a tankard of Mead
Better drink that while eating the popcorn.
one of the best? he literally said "except those ones, because they have less HP so they are the worse"
i got the kebabs ready hands one over
Doesn't fish wraps take the most steps to make?
Beaten only by lox meat pie and serpent stew.
will valheim be back during the spring sale? im surprised its ending in 15hours (steam)
You don't have Fishwraps? 😉
He's still in the mountains
we got plenty of saltiness here already
Oh crap, so it's Wolf jerkies instead. 😦
There's wolf skewers
regardless, valheim is one of the few games I felt comfortable getting at full price
literally the only other "plains tier health foods" (other than cooked lox meat, lol), which renders it worst in class. It's a fact.
It's still on sale? unless you mean you can't make the most of this sale and want to know when the next one is?
I think right now it's the most it's been discounted tho
It goes on sale pretty often anyways
im broke gamer ;/ i was planning to play it on xbox gamepass to trial then buy it on steam
yea cause i dont have enough money to buy it at full price
I wouldn't stress, Fourty - it definetely goes on sale often
gotcha, but it's quite reasonably priced without sales
oh really? like every month or?
Can always check SteamDB and check previous sales
Gives a decent idea of both how often it goes on sale as well as what's the best historical discount
in USD it's 19.99 marked down to 11.99
Hard to say for sure - but I've seen it happen like six times at least (bearing in mind that I don't check too often, having already bought it, of course). I think you could safely expect to see it go on sale again within a few months, tops
oo so about each quarter or so
give or take, yeah
At least once every 3 months I'd say
if you have a life, wait till the next sale, or the one after that
Winter sale had it at 50% off which was the highest discount
Just make sure not to cook Fish Wraps if you do buy it. They are bad
😂
Wait, not winter, earlier March sale
I cooked 1 to see the numbers
oh wait now it make sense why its ending so soon, spring sale on steam ends tomorrow aswell lol
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18CIv39YFMqIhB8horGHsp2OrTB4e5zcscHPotUR8MbU has all the numbers.
You should buy it now! Ashlands will be out soon, and you'll have serious FOMO
I like to discover things in game
Fair enough.
will this be free dlc?
Fish wraps fills the niche of your third HP food when going for a HHH diet in the Plains, if going for the BiS foodstuffs.
yes!
ashlands will be available during the next sale, nothing to miss out on
All updates are free 😛 - minus the soundtrack on steam
It's part of the main game, so yeah.
do people actually buy the soundtrack? I've never understood that...
Some people do
oh right this game still in early access lol
It also fills the niche of second HP food if going for HHS without hunting serpents, which some folks prefer.
Depends if you want to support the devs further and listen to the valheim soundtrack whilst playing minecraft
Some people don't care
I was just thinking it would be cool to buy it as a...donation
The music is very good background music for other activities than playing Valheim.
And some people sail the high seas
I would totally play Valheim soundtrack if I owned a boat irl...
I got spotify for that.
Works like a charm. 🙂
UFOrb with 40m blue room ftw.
yeah, ingame soundtracks tend to get repetitive after a while no matter how good they are
Valheim is one of the few games where I can mostly listen to music in the background but then when I'm in Mistlands / Mountains/ Plains I actually need my ears to locate threats
so I don't always have music playing
oh yeah - I crank in-game SFX starting in Mountains, for sure
I just get surprised by random fireballs
Phew, seekers are relentless! First time dying in the mistlands, fell into a little pit surrounded by them with no stamina 😵💫 takes a lot of stamina to get out of a hole, so my goose was cooked
last time you leave home w/out a Stamina Mead, I'll bet!
You mean you became a fishwrap?
lmao
After listening to the soundtrack for so long I find that toggling off continuous music in the settings is best for me. You still get music, but it'll be just half of the time instead of constantly.
bad joke, stop it XD
What if we get to cook other player's bodies
Why would we need long pork if we already have short pork?
The Forest, Sons Of The Forest - go play
**I"m starving, invite some more noobs to the server
off topic~!!!
normal day in rimworld 🤣
the topic was cannibalism so a game with that mechanic was suggested, within the topic!
Same in WO when being a Libila follower. But that's off topic as well
this is valheim-chat though
Haha never leave home without out! I’d already drank one, but it wasn’t enough. My mistake was fleeing from them in the first place, I probably would’ve had a better chance had I stayed and fought this time.
I read that caniballism was the norm for most people historically
Nope, I became minced meat sauce for sure 😅
oh damn, they got you fair and square then. rip
Indeed, I got some backup gear though, so recovery should go smooth?
And having a tombstone with an inscription saying:
"After TooMuchDogg encountered the seekers, he was found in the plains, and the meadows and the black forest and the mistlands"
rule 13 is do not backseat moderate, if you wanna start nitpicking
Technically...
true - you got me there
Technically mentioning it breaks it.
oh, for sure -- but at least I'm not going around shouting:
off topic~!!!
Not to a mod, for certain!
i'd hardly call it shouting. complete and total lack of capitalization
3 exclamation points ain't shouting?!?
There are three exclamation points...
Can we, either drink some beverage of choice or find another valheim topic to discuss?
I think one has to use all caps to be shouting? exclamation points merely emphasize one's point
You have that backwards.
sorry, already doing the former, I'm just riled up tonight for some reason. maybe it was that fantastic nap earlier today
I come here to talk about Valheim and give Derek a hard time. Not interested in other games
Fuschta!
I've already stopped playing Valheim until Ashlands, soooo....
Forcefeeding fishwraps
😂
So I guess that also means some subjects aren't beating dead horses, but dead parrots?
Deas hugin
But Honey in valheim though
or taking silly walks
it's not DEAD it's PINING
The only time I'm doing silly walks is in the swamp and when going down a mountain.
Speaking of, we need more fjords
well-rested buff would make sense to require sleeping in a bed, no?
or at the very least sitting in a chair
well he's a stiff, bereft of life he rests in peace. if you hadnt gone running down the mountain he'd be pushing up the daises!
yeah kinda crazy that the mere presence of a chair counts as rested, ngl
Although, seeing the "i hate mistlands topics" appear once in a while at the Steam forum, lots of players do those silly walks in that biome as well.
I see the logic. But having it simply count towards a total is much simpler.
but you don't even sit, and that's my point
mistands was pretty bad till figuring out the glowballs
Love me some 8 minute wilderness rested buff
we had it tough! a tiny old house with great big holes in the roof!
hell yeah - I use that wilderness buff alllll the time on no-portal play throughs. So clutch
nothing beats 10 minute sheltered campfire buff tho
A solid recovery mission 🤌🌶️
success?
yes, its very good, maybe even too good, which requiring a bed/chair would be a logical nerf that's also thematic
A 2* troll does. Just in another way.
I built a long elevated bridge in swamps with campfires underneath for cart and keep the rested buff
It probably took longer than just running back and forth tbh
sounds like a fire hazard
Gotta appreciate the commitment tho
you think you had it tough, why, when I was a lad, we lived in a hole in the ground filled with seekers, they'd kill us and make us respanw there all day
Sounds like fun!
Making a swamp livable is a challenge~
Success indeed!
Nah, not when you're Dutch.
We've been doing that all the time. 😄
Casually cuts down the indestructible trees
Just gotta be more mindful in the mistlands. Infested mines are rough!
we used to have run up and down the mountains with nothing but a torch and a fireplace, dodge some 2 star wolves, eat a bunch of puke berries, and when we got home, our troll dad would beat us to death with his club
Which reminds me, when do we get the option to drain the swamp using windmills?
But muh tree villages

Kinda suffering from success over here, got too much materials and too much food lol
Chests are overflowing.
Start building
start cooking
the best chests often are, right out of the top if they are squeezed in enough
I'm working on a world where I build 1 giant castle over the entire continent
Cleared of trees and everything
this run I made my first base 3x7 full of chests... but it's too wide.. I suppose I could adjust autostore...
2x4 is life
You guys ever think Odin checks in on us and thinks "I've made a mistake"
every time I zap something
Or "she's rebuilding again?"
what you mean? he already does.
Mr. doom and gloom in a black cloak disappears in feathers all over the place
He probably wonders if Ulf and Astrid were the smartest ones he'd send down there.
He's probably the one pressing the button for raids
out of stamina? greeeat, throw in some seekers
Running around without a shield?
Let's drop a 2* Draugr archer near them
ran 100 miles? oh look that's no 20 fine wood, it's 12!
Oh, they got balista's.
Let's throw a bat-raid at them, so they shoot their own boars.....
bat raid: all the downside of fighting deathsquito for none of the upside
at least deathsquito gives needle, which is somewhat useful making even stronge arrow than obsidian
Bats give leather scraps.
It has one upside. Blocking during a whole bat raid gives okay block skill
bats just comes and ruin your house, your lifestock, your everything
Bat raids killed my boars
Y'all need roofed pens
well u can get reliable leather scrap from boar farm
I'm still annoyed at that
so getting more of that for basically protecting your flocks isn't much to show for
its kinda a shame tho cause you can never see your pets from your tower 😢
Bat raids are there to show you why it's a good idea to have an enclosed - including roof - animal pen.
I'd rather keep them alive~
same, I'm just saying
first time I bred boars I got like 16 or so... then came the bats. Had to start all over getting them to chase back to base
so I built iron cage around them 🙂
Yea, I made one after and found a 2* boar. Then a greydwarf shaman poisoned it to death through the walls while I was doing something else
And that's why you need to build walls or a moat around your base. With at least 8m distance between the animal pen and the spot the monsters can stand.
stone works
Been there, done that, didn't get the armor.
I don't particularly like the idea of moats
To block that poison blast from a Greydwarf Shaman?
Unless they add a drawbridge
I like the idea but hate it in practice. It makes it actually impossible for non flying mobs to get to your base
after making a stone wall, had no issues with land attacks damaging my stuff, but boars still need protection from bats. With stone walls and iron cage, boars were fine
if you build a bridge with a sliver of a gap, it breaks pathing and nothing can get in
But does it go up and down?
no 😢
That's why I build on a plateau on an island.
Gives me a big-ass moat, but it still looks good. 😄
Must be a bummer for you that you can't build on a Leviathan.
It's already a bummer that I can fight them
We'll float around and hang out on clouds
Longship isn't large enough for you?
100% sure it won't happen
It doesn't even have a room with a bed
It needs to have a nice mattress too
It got room for the wood to create the shack where you can put down a fire and a bed.
I want to sleep at sea!
Mobile bases would just remove any encouragement to building proper bases
In that case you don't need a bed but a hammock
Doesn't mean I can't want it
You can always drop a suggestion about having hammocks on the longship at https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202312684364910612
Not sure it'll be granted, but at least you tried.
i have finaly relocated my house to a place nearer to the dock
previously i picked a house at a very dense population of trees in the middle of meadows, so the new place i moved to has 0 trees, enough to build a loooooong house
dogsled...er woflsled!
It isn't for me
is the vibe that the update will be soon?
First half of 2024
Is there any counter to ward trolling when it's buried outside demolisher range?
sounds like a rough one
Only counter I could think of would be not playing with trollers
Ward trolling?
I've never tried the raft mod, but I think that would allow you to build a houseboat
It blows my mind that my crazy outdated pc that can’t even OPEN ark ascended, runs valheim maxed out at great frames….
And on performance mode for console, ark runs decently, but in valheim I can’t have lights on from more than 3 feet away….
It's almost like you need to code games for specific systems to optimize performance
I’m aware that it’s different lol, I’m saying it’s crazy that 3 years in and the lights cant work on performance lol
It’s my literal only serious complaint with the game. 10/10 otherwise.
PLEASE valheim devs PLEEEASE add slanted half floors
I can't even imagine what that would look like.
like a slanted wall but a floorpiece
triangular
Floors are typically flat, I'm not sure slanted would ever work. Things would just roll away.
Is it just me, or does coming across a Greydwarf tower in late game feel like angry Anakin visiting a Sand People village? 😛
? what ??
Heh, I hadn't thought of it that way. It's certainly not a fair fight.
Not just the brutes, but the greydwarfs and the greylings too!
Doesn't make it easier to imagine...
Pretty sure @plush umbra just means a half floor square, but halved diagonally.
FINALLY ☠️☠️
someone got it
Triangles for the win
This is why maths is important kids
halved floors would be super cool cuz u could actually build octagonal bases
I assume is for ramps then as that's pretty much the only purpose they could server
See, now THAT makes sense.
not octagonal im stupid
Oh wait I misread it
Yeah, that's exactly what I did. The word slanted does that.
Can say, I use triangle floors (mod) and love it. Makes Nice curved decks
actually ya octagonal
I can imagine it now
anyone have any recommendations for no mods valheim servers? Looking to come back to it.
You can approximate it with three quarter floor pieces, but that's it for now. That often avoids the external overhang for me
A slanted floor is not one parallel to the ground, I can't see how that would work in any other way except for ramps
I'm not sure if that's been put in suggestions before, probably
Either way, it was probably lost in the hack so worth putting in again.
Search by vanilla #1024264966712340510
oh ty, forgot discord added that little posting forum thing 😄
I'll go add that plus other "missing" pieces
Just get them to rejig the whole construction setup and make it like Lego
LMFAO. We've got no chance of that. But a new bucket of pieces is worth a shot.
Sorry, I missed that first time. That's a solid joke. 🙂
Hey haven’t played Valhiem in a while have they added anything new to it from today an the past months cause I tried checking old notifications but I guess I just saw this sever was hack back then? So I’m guessing all that got deleted
Nothing since December, there's a patch on the public test branch now that will be released soon. It's not Ashlands yet but a Unity upgrade and some other stuff.
Hmm well I’m slowly getting back into the game I was hopping to hear some things being added like ships and more water terroir but I haven’t seen it yet
Do they have a road map for 2024?
No, that would be pointless. We know Ashlands is coming in the first half, and that there'll be another small pstch after the current ptb patch is moved to live.
I was hoping there be something in ashlands I been hearing about it for so long it I just got there today and it’s rather empty so that be cool with a change
Are they adding any other areas like that cause I know there the tip an bottom part of the world what about the sides?
download some mods for now and wait for ashlands lol
I’m on console i do enjoy it an im debating getting it in pc if I have to but I don’t think I will since it’s crossplay
Dis anyone tried to make a long path across the ocean?
not possible using just vanilla methods
i did manage to connect an island to the mainland that way though, it's tricky coz if you can't target you can't raise ground
is there a mod to prevent feeding finewood to the kiln?
You can put the wood You want to use in one of hotbar keys and add to the klin with the hitkey so no chance for accidentally adding finewood
want to feed direct from storage
I should rephrase, looking for mod to force auto-feed from container to kilns to use only regular wood... and I should post in mod chat 🙂
or... looking for mod that forces kilns to only use only regular wood
Deep North
And game launches to full release
Sides are empty because they will remain empty
just made up of Mistlands/Plains/Forest/Mountains, and Ocean, which would be good places for more dangerous Ocean life which is possible but otherwise they are how they are now and that's it
ashlands is being worked on right now
deepnorth is next
once thats done it will be version 1.0
they might have a team working on Ocean while DN gets done who knows
You could ask in #mods-discussion 😄
Is there a release date for the Ashlands update? I wasn't able to find anything concrete
You didn't even look then.
The release window has been posted several dozen times by now.
I saw the first half of 2024, but I meant if there was something more concise since we're already almost into April.
If there was, you wouldn't need to ask
Morning gjall.
Why is it not possible to use the grass setting of the cultivator on black ground in the mistlands? I'd love to be able to restore those reddish plants after levelling some ground 😢
The ground bugs out sometimes, but it will be fixed very soon! It just sometimes creates an area that "can't be cultivated"
Aren't there just spots in the mistlands that you can't cultivate at all? No shrooms growing, no nothing?
Yeah, but if they already had grass I think they mean
Sometimes the ground bugs out in an area, and can't be cultivated even if it already had grass beforehand
Not just in the Mistlands
"On black ground in the mistlands" made me presume the black ground you find there, not make.
I haven't had that happen to me, must be annoying having a part of your farm not being able to grow stuff.
But also said "restore"
Is that a desync thing or just random
Random, it happens frequently
did you guys notice any difference between Vulcan and Regular launch options? Like real difference, not a placebo?
Depends on your system. Some people get much better performance.
Vulcan works better with AMD I think
Is there any news about ashlands update??
if you mean about their release date then nothing, we still only know they will be out in first half of this year 😄
the game is more optimaizable yet?
and by that you mean?
we optimize the game every patch we put out
no like new optimizing settings like the new scale rendering option
Is there likely to be another Development Blog soon? This week maybe?
renderscale is not for PC
it's more for Xbox
does anyone have a community Valheim Server, i d like to join and Watch :3 maby we will make some adventures 😍
Tnx :3
well it made it smoother for me and since valheim is a bit pixelated 80 wasn't a big difference
The game is running smoothly for me on high settings while it struggled even on low settings before. Same laptop too. Comparing current state of the game to about 1-2 years ago
option to reduce or even completely remove point lights is huge, but I suppose they work better currently than they did before

@urban kilneh we do have a server and are about to start up
starting from scratch. We're 2 folks rn
finally found turnips...
is there any problem that my english is not the best, i am from germany :3
ye its ok
just join vc in Moders lair
Nope. Only the grain crops, I beleive.
this is why grain crops are better. Spin to win
haha, yeah that only works with Flax/Barley
Which host is best for dedicated servers?
Best host is nearest host.
oh
but is there a website thats good?
https://www.g-portal.com/en/gameserver/valheim-server-hosting this seems decent i think
I used Bisect hosting on my last server. Very stable and reliable - I'd recommend it 10 out of 10! You get more hardware power for what you pay, as well (compared to g-portal at least)
How much is Bisect? I've used hosthavoc twice and it's €15 a month
$16 usd for first tier of service;
$20 usd per month for second tier (which I used) for better performance
👍
I prefer to pick up with two handed clubs, not atgeir
Also 1 -> 1 -> 3 vs 1 -> 2 -> 4
so slow though!
But clubs you have all time, atgeir no), but ofc depends on play style
I never have 2 handed club with me, but Atgeir is with me all the time
oh yeah - I'm an atgeir main too, so it's always with me 😂
I was very disappointed by battle axe... I herd it's really powerful for staggering in 1 hit with that fast poke. Well... 1 star draugr and it failed to stagger it. And that cost my life. Atgeir wouldn't have betrayed me like that
still have to try if it works on abominations as it was advertised... if you guess just fire arrow time
Upgrade it once, you should be able to reliably parry aboms in normal settings and with swamps food
why even use a battleaxe if you're parrying with it?
yeah i'm totally with you there. The stagger amount on battleaxe secondary attack is surprisingly low when you're used to big Atgeir stuns. I think the weapon would be a lot more fun to play if it was increased substantially.
That said, the slash dmg on battleaxe is certainly nice against abominations. I still don't bother with it - as there are so many better ways to kill them anyways
All 2H weapons have decent parry multipliers and block power
Atgeir has the best though 😉
It's not gonna be the level of a buckler, ofc, but it's pretty good
yea but shield is way better for that...
Along with upping battleaxe stagger hopefully atgeir stagger could be lowered
Battleaxe damage combined with reliable parry makes aboms a breeze, I really like it
also I'd rather just use normal axe and parry instead of battleaxe if it doesn't even stagger it like I was told
Agreed - it probably should be. It's too strong right now.
Honestly, I feel like battleaxe secondary should have higher stagger than atgeir, considering it is only single target
It's also a very fast attack tho. Real good stagger needs to be left for main attack
only the first swing is slow
I mean yeah, but what is the point of using battleaxe secondary at all if its unlikely to do its intended job (stagger to set up the triple attack normal combo)?
first also need to find a better swamp for hunting them. It's massive but so far only found 1 spawning point for abominations
Don't believe they have fixed spawning points
they do
They should work similar to serpents, spawning on large enough swamp biome areas
wiki says so and that matches my observations. Seen it spawn twice to same exact spot, never anywhere else
Hm, fair enough
well it's still possible that my 2 time observation was just luck, would need atleast 3rd or 4th time to be a bit more confident about that
Protip: Don't throw your spears at growths near a tar pit 😭
Where exactly does the Wiki say that?
Abominations, like all zone spawns will spawn randomly in any suitable zone.
"They often spawn in the same place as before, making it possible to farm them. Respawn timing is unknown."
Don't throw your spears if you don't want to lose them)))
They're my only ranged weapon tho
That doesn't really scream "fixed spawn point" to me
Nor me. It's a little ambiguous though.
not like pinpoint fixed location, but a rather small area from what I've seen
They 100% do have fixed spawn points. I'm very used to farming them in specific locations on hardcore playthroughs
They will tend to spawn around the same areas because those areas will fit the biome area requirements
They 100% DO NOT. Let's not spread misinformation, eh?
AKA the guy who actually knows what he's talking about.
😂
also saying that they do not is misinformation if you do not have proof like you're demanding from us
The wiki team usually pulls spawning info directly from the game code, don't y'all?
"fish wraps are the best in-tier HP food for the Plains"
-Derek
We do, yeah.
That is NOT what I said.
I don't appreciate your attitude, frankly.
It is really good food though... but if you do not like fishing then forgor about it
I'd sooner trust that than anecdotal experience, then.
A lot of people don't appreciate yours, from what I've seen...
well we have both wiki and 2 people's anecdotal experience...
Which two people?
rly?
Yes, I want you to clarify your statement.
best not to engage with him - he's just looking for a fight
got it
I'm not, despite the fact you've given me many reasons to.
labeling something misinformation without showing any proof of your own tho...
gestures to the Wiki
and it agrees with me
I suppose the wiki needs to be reworded to have a bit more precise wording then, if folks are taking the wrong conclusions.
"They often spawn in the same place as before, making it possible to farm them. Respawn timing is unknown."
Zooming in... same place as before
I think respawn timing is like 3 in-game days
Yeah, I'll give it a tweak. We have the timing anyway, so no idea why it says that.
It's 1000 seconds whatever that works out to in days.
Wait, no, that's serpents.
Should be fairly similar, no?
66 minutes in a location, the entire swamp or the entire world?
Can you tell me where it is? When I get home, I want to take a look too. Inside dll or assets?
Per zone.
zone being some specific size are, kind of like chunks in minecraft but bigger or?
Yeah. Zones are 64m by 64m.
Oh, it's a square area? I always figured it'd be a circle
Yep, square.
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Spawn_zones explains the zone spawning mechanics in agonising detail.
definitely should be seeing more of them... think my swamp is just scuffed with very few spots for them to spawn. So far seen only 1 spot for them to spawn in
that's interesting, thx Derek! 😊
You're quite welcome. I'd say out of all the mechanics ingame, that's the one I understand the most. Don't ask me how damage works, for example.
mined iron scrap to fill a longboat and during that time not a single one spawned. went a bit further in to explore edges of the swamp and suddenly 1 finally spwaned
They only spawn in 'full' zones (zones with Swamp at all 4 corners), at ground level (or thereabouts) and only 35% of the time.
We talking Aboms or other?
Abominations.
I see
eh... well glad I saw the wiki before that useful info got edited out. It did massively help to go check the previous spot again to find another abomination. no luck anywhere else
Edited out?
it's been updated
Yes, because it was unclear as evidenced by the discussion earlier.
charcoal is annoying XD
Oh?
the urge to install the hold E to just fill it to max lol
He edits it to suit the current state of the game (well the comment has been deleted but still)
Yeah, I thought I didn't imagine that.
and to me it seemd to be fairly accurate since they're spawning in same location...
They're spawning in similar locations that match the spawn requirements that I linked you to.
I really thought we'd made progress.
yea starting to see why he mentioned attitude...
So if they spawn in one spot, chances are good they'll spawn there again because it meets the requirements. But, they can spawn in any similar location that meets the same requirements, even if it's nearby. Right? Or am I misunderstanding?
It's really not that difficult to understand. If your swamp only has one eligible 64x64m area for aboms to spawn, then they will probably spawn around the same area, somewhat reliably. Bigger swamps will have more variation because that area check has a lot more swamps to work with.
Pretty much, yes.
Same deal with serpents and other area spawns
not if the swamp is cursed like mine. it's massive with 20+ crypts but still only 1 location for them to spawn in, apparently
Sounds like how trolls spawn in troll caves but sometimes outside of them too
Could just be luck, that. Like Derek said, it's on a percent chance.
Could also be irregular terrain
Trolls around and in the caves are a little different... they're one time spawns with a chance of not occurring. There's one spawn in the cave, and one outside, both happen on generation and only once.
They're only one time? I swear I've visited the same troll cave and continuously fill the chest in there with corpses
Then you've got a mod or something 😉 The inside spawns of almost all dungeons are one-time only.
probably water? noticed that there are not large areas with a lot of water like I've seen in some swamps. But weirdly enough... from what you guys have said they shouldn't be spawning at the edge of swamp? Shouldn't there be ocean biome adjecent to it?
those coastal spawns be everywhere though...
Ever notice how you're sailing and it'll still say "Swamp" but be deep water? Ocean is only when the water is deep enough.
Definitely not running mods. I figure having a fire or workbench disables the spawn but if left alone a troll could reappear
Not inside a cave, no. Only outside, and that would only be because it's a valid area for a spawn. Only Mistlands dungeons are an exception, they've got a subset that explicitly respawns.
The spawn will happen long before you get a chance to put anything down.
The tree growing animation always scares the pee out of me.
You remembered you planted the trees, you just don't expect them to jump outta the ground.
it the tree also starts wlaking towards you, worry
The acid always wears off, I never worry about that.
Finally found a bonemass vegvisir in my no map playthrough. Hopefully it's not too far away. This swamp is absolutely riddled with crypts
at this point kind of expecting that to be easier than finding turnips. explored a massive swamp and only found 1 single turnip seed plant 😂
Yeah I only found one, in a swamp with no crypts at all. That has multiplied into hundreds now thankfully. Also managed to find onion seeds yesterday
I died in the swamp when looking for turnips and not finding any of them.
Did a corps run, took a shortcut over Bonemass' spawn and found 3 plants within a 1m radius.
they're conspiring against us
Hi all just starting my Valhiem adventure. Thought I'd join this channel to help with that ! have a great day !
Welcome!
When ashlands
I will ask so that the days since last “when ashlands” counter will stay at 0
As it should be. People know there is an update and not ask when, that just doesn't happen 😂
beware of trees, they are treacherous 🙀
2 minutes before you said this and i died to a tree and got off
Beware of fireplaces, they are just as insidious 😹
Trees are evil. Cut them all!
5 minutes later...
Help, they're fighting back! (bonked by a falling tree)
shh
ikr
The most bizzare looking tree falling I've ever seen is a tree starting to fall normally... only to do a sideways swing of about 90 degrees just before hitting the ground
glances at above abomination discussion.
Abominations often spawn in the sameish areas because the swamp is full of areas that abominations can't spawn in, so when they spawn it'll be in one of the areas that they are able to spawn in. Most mobs are more obviously random since they have a much bigger pool of possible spawn points to choose from, so to say.
when it's done like that pretty much same as just having specific areas where they spawn. The result is exactly same
with exception of swamps where there are a lot of valid areas
thats cool information and all but did you know you can stack 8 beds atop of eachother without failure?
Only 8?
the entire stack? not the top one? but everything?
that sounds weird lol
Very weird
You sure that the beds wouldn’t just crumble with 1 on top of another, you just built them so fast that it couldn’t happen until they were all placed?
bed building speedrun any%
I vaguely remember something like that, bed stability is weird.
What's the best weapon for mistlands, the frostner?
Best one from before the Mistlands, yes. Ooze bombs are very handy as well, and frost and poison arrows.
Anything that does elemental damage is good, Seekers resist all physical damage types.
I go in with quivers filled to the brim with Frost Arrows and an unreasonable amount of Ooze bombs
Atgeir in my pocket as well, of course...
Frostner isn't bad at all, there are certainly worse weapons to bring into the Mistlands
Okay so for seekers in dungeons it's best to just kill them using frost damage or poison damage, rest would be just parring bcuz I love to parry
In dungeons to start, I would suggest use Bonemass power, having the root chest and padded helm and pants, toss an ooze bomb to start combat and then you can parry attacks. But it can get overwhelming quickly, so be very deliberate in your advances. Go one room at a time, make sure you can't get flanked.
I love my Frostner in the infested mines. Makes everyone respect my "personal space".
Root chest is worth its weight in gold both in Plains and in Mistlands
Frostner is also nice because of the knockback, it's actually a reason to possibly choose it even if you have access to the Mistwalker
I just cheese them and throw oozebombs at unbroken doors until the whole room is cleared 😂
Devs should probably remove my ability to do that...
im taking my silver sword into the plains and got a feeling its not a good choice
Mistlands are already taxing as-is, I'd rather they keep any and all cheese methods available
I mean, it's great against Yagluth. There are better choices for Fulings though (Atgeeeeiiiiir)
nah i use sword 🙂
I'm a sword kind of guy
Well then silver sword it is. Don't worry you'll be able to make blackmetal sword quite soon
I wouldn't feel bad about going in with Silver Sword then. It's definitely best-in-class melee vs Yag, and Fulings are a glass-cannon type enemy anyways, so the silver sword dmg is honestly fine
The silver sword is brilliant, it just has so much damage as spirit and almost everything is immune to that. It's definitely the best weapon against Yagluth though, you might replace it with the blackmetal sword for general use. Don't be afraid to branch out though... Valheim will punish you if you try to use the wrong kind of damage, you end up making your job so much harder it's not even funny 😉
2nd best, frostner wins by a heafty amount
does it really?
In conjunction with a parrying shield and a half decent bow, the plains will end up your bitch.
Me who just use sword on every type of enemy
BUT... when I started exploring plains, I just used atgeir middle attack to pair fulings quickly
I do love my swords but yeah frostner into Yag is pretty awesome
Huntsman Bow is sooooo good in Plains! Being able to stealth-pull fulings out of a village is so much more useful than the slightly higher dmg that Draugr Fang gives you.
Fact. Luv me a huntsmanbow
3x its weight in gold on Very Hard ❤️
Agreed
Does it really?
Plains aren't that hard as people say, like I know it's hard, but when done with caution, it's less hard than swamps
crucial, even
The thing I've found about Valheim is that you're kinda forced into particular builds in the interests of advancement. When you're towards the end of the available content, your personal preference becomes more and more feasible.
The BF > Swamp difficulty spike is probably the hardest in the game, and at least for me, Plains was probably the easiest because you're afforded the most room to navigate encounters since the Meadows
If you tried to raid a village fast, you'll end up fast
Hmm I’d disagree. I’d say you have a lot of freedom, there’s just a few weapons that are OP all throughout the game
Only exception is that blunt damage feels near necessary for bonemass
Yeh, the caution comes from parrying and using a good bow to one-shot stuff without aggroing the entire Fuling village.
I agree. We can choose to struggle the entire way, or we can choose to use that one weapon that makes the next progression marker significantly easier.
But now I have padded set at max level, so I just use bonemass power and kill all the fulings really fast cuz they deal 5 damage
Frost Arrows for the win vs Bonemass 😉
how many wood sticks does a fireplace consume per day?
Nah, I would say iron mace + poison resistance and you good
Chalk it up to the fact that the difference between very resistant(pierce) and weak(blunt) is a whopping 500% damage. Even Swords, which he's only resistant to, is still a difference of 300%
he'll still whack the shit out of you on Very Hard
whereas he's slow AF and easy to kite with the Frost Arrow setup
I can understand that, given you spend your entire time wet, and impeded by chest deep water half the time. But I think plains -> mistlands is the hardest. The stamina expenditure, the archiHELLigo of navigating with a boat, the lack of visibility... it's just a bad time.
Nah if you're dodging the shit out of him and use health potions
on very hard? health potion doesn't help when he can oneshot you if you fail a dodge
I opt to skip him on Very Hard. I’m not dealing with wolf raids, especially during Moder fight
(Especially this run bc I have max raids lol)
Blunt against Bonemass is the go. Agreed.
I do the same thing, actually 😂. Easy to find silver without the Wishbone, too - so no love lost
Yeah but by the time I'd gotten to mistlands I'd already spent so much time in the game and knew what the game was capable of. So yes in a vacuum I think it's an objectively steeper difficulty increase but the BF > Swamp situation is special in that most people in that situation are new and likely unprepared the first time
Nope, silver sword wins in terms of dmg by considerable amount
I thought so too
I'm talking about normal mode, I'm not including the other gamemodes at this time, bcuz I never tried them. So I don't have opinions on that
Frostner is also great tho
Swamp def feels harder than mistlands
oooh, yeah on normal I'd just take wooden club tbh
You realise that the people that go from BF to Swamp the first time are the same people that go from Plains to Mistlands for the first time? (i.e. everyone).
Agreed - I think swamp is the most dangerous place in the game when you're geared in BF apparrel/food
Nowhere to hide, whereas in plains, you have big stones to climb up on for safety
yeah but you've learned stamina management at this point in the game, generally
For me mistlands were slightly easier than swamp biome, but it's because when I first arrived at swamp at my first playthrough I was having Meadows food and no potions xD
I'm taking the difference in game experience into consideration for the assessment
Because I didn't knew that cauldron was a food maker

There's a lot of important game mechanics you learn between swamp->Mist that you aren't taught yet in Meadows->Swamp that make a world of difference, at least for first playthroughs
lots of shooty things in the swamp, too. Scary...
Example please?
managing your stamina! 😉
The importance of agriculture, food tiers, meads, stamina conservation, buffs/debuffs etc
Things you can get away with ignoring in BF as a new player but get punished quite hard for ignoring in the swamp
I'd argue it's not an issue of 'being taught', it's an issue of paying attention.
Survival games kinda need an approach with the mentality of, "If this is true, what else is true?"
Valheim is a lot of peoples' first survival game, myself included
yeah it was mine too, heh
Minecraft technically is a lot of people's first
Again, these things aren't necessarily absent in Meadows or BF, but they are ignorable up until you step into swamp at which point you get slapped pretty hard
@lunar ridge @final lily In that case, I advise you both to approach it with the mentality of, "If this is true, what else is true?"
what do you mean by that?
Well, it's a bit too late for that advice at this point, 1k hours and 6 full playthroughs later
haha, yeah same. I hit 1,100 the other day
Soo... can someone tell me if it is possible to remove water from a underground floor? i'm building a castle and i was trying to make some sort of cellar in a underground 1 floor but there's a lot of water...
Don't worry though, I'm sure I'll get slapped around in Ashlands with everybody else
only if you raise the ground, unfortunately
oh :/ thx for the answer... but that's quite sad :/
Yeah I feel you on this... sorry
Would recommend building at a higher altitude if you plan on building into the ground
"I can't catch this deer by running after it. Maybe stamina is important." - "That troll just one shot me, even though I was blocking, maybe evasion is important." - "I can't even mine mineral veins until I've killed the first boss, maybe I should think about how this game manages my progression." ...and, so on.
Well, yeah... I mean of course
Not that it discredits the point, but on my very first playthrough I ran into less of this issue than I did in my 2nd because I started with a flint spear and preferred sneaking so the stamina conservation didn't hit me until, well, trolls lol but I didn't fight them nearly at all in BF my first playthrough I just ran away from them
You forgot "Hey, I saw a shitload of recipes passing on screen right after I picked this up. Let's check the various crafting stations to see what I can build or craft."
I feel like you don’t need the stones (can’t they be climbed by mobs now too?)
Everything in Plains can be outrun, except deathsquito which literally takes 1 hit to kill and doesn’t do too much damage if you have root chest
Root chest truly OP
In fact I'd say the full root set is one of the best sets in the game
With how overloaded the archery skill is in terms of benefits per level, getting free 15 is very nice
If I had to run a full set of anything on my current run, I’d prob choose Root (even though I have bows banned 🤣)
depends on the shape of the stone. Some of them can be climbed by Fulings/Lox, whereas others (if contoured correctly) cannot
I think it's like 50/50, tbh
Totally forgot about the bow boost from root armor. Maybe I can see just how broken high level archery is
Max level bow skill is about 7x the dps of level 0. Shit is unbelievably broken
Completely broken. I've spoiled myself to the point that I can't play without 75+ in bow. I build skill trainers in the swamp and have a little cheeky method that I use to hit 100 skill in 2 hours or less 😉
0.2 second draw speed is nuts
Try a no bow run ;)
It's even more fun... the rocks are all generally the same, it just depends entirely on the landform around it as to whether they can get up to the climbable parts of it. Before I had good gear I would dig the ground down around the edges of the rock that they could climb so things couldn't. In general if you can sprint and run up a slope without jumping, an enemy can climb it.
I'm currently at 66 and it's feeling a lot stronger. Adding 15 to that'll be quite the boost I reckon.
oooh, good to know
Could always start out on easier settings
I mean yeah - that wouldn't be too difficult though. I feel like anything less than Very Hard is a cake walk at this point. I'm terrified getting into melee on hardcore though. If forced into it, I spin with an Atgeir and then run away
How do you kill Modor without a bow on hardcore?
let alone Queen?
Moder lands, hit her with things. For the Queen, the bow is actually terrible, there are a ton of better options against her.
Silver sword 👍
Magic
My first time doing Queen, I used magic. Second time I used 100-skill bow with Frost Arrows. Not gonna lie, I prefer the Frost Arrow approach. Felt stronger. Note that I would not do this with sub-100 skill!
Modor gonna 1-shot me though if I get into melee!
Can't kill what you can't hit 😛 Just gotta roll out of any attacks.
omg you guys are sooooo much braver than I am!
Naah. I don't play hardcore or hard mode. I don't have the skills or time to get good at that. I get an hour or two on a good night to play, I don't want it to be an exercise in frustration or high effort. I do that all day at work 😛
That's exactly where I'm at Pita
I count myself as "solidly mediocre". I can handle the general Mistlands with a root chest and fenris set on normal difficulty, and I consider that enough.
I mean, it’s faster to kill her with a spear in melee than with a bow unless you have insane bow skill
I prob will dabble in magic and use some of that for queen. Not gonna go full magic cheese build tho, prob just 1 eitr food most the time
I did need root chest and serpent stew / serpent meat / wolf skewer to be able to tank one hit from any of her attacks
"One hit" I'd be sweating
Was able to more or less tank one hit each time she landed. And then regened enough health to tank a hit for her next landing by using a health potion and normal hp regen. Only attack that was kinda harmless was her bite, bc it was pierce
Funnily enough Germ was using a bow most the fight but ended up dying (he also didn’t have the setup to tank much tho 🙏 )
How did you feel not having stamina in your meal
I used single Eitr food and double Stamina, carried a staff of protection and a Bow with around 500 frost arrows, along with plenty of bile bombs. That did the trick!
I see... died to her getting one-shot once on hardcore while running Serpent Stew + Serpent Meat + Stamina. Scared the crap out of me
I've gotten pretty good at dealing with her attacks. But something about playing on hardcore. Knowing one shot is a potential brings a lot of anxiety
are you sure her bite is pierce? The wiki says that both the bite and the claw count as slash dmg
Yup yup you need that triple health Carry to tank her insane damage
Her frost barrage does bonkers damage
yeah it's kinda absurd actually
Pretty sure yeah. Looks to me like the wiki is missing one of her attacks. She has two melee attacks, a slash with her claw (slash) and a bite with her teeth (pretty sure it’s pierce)
Bonemass year one was kinda bonkers too
Her frost barrage is 60 pierce and 400 frost per projectile 💀
I opted for fenris legs and eikthyr power so I could outrun the barrage every time
wiki says 30 pierce and 200 frost 🤔
Eikthyr power best power
We’re discussing Very Hard
All good
wiki says:
"While grounded, she can perform a swipe attack with either claw or a bite, all of which does up to 110 slash..."
Eikthyr is the only power I’ve used so far this run. No portals really changes up my power usage
this is normal right? https://imgur.com/a/holsuZ4
game preview is still the full game?
Hmm, maybe I’d have to test. Just remember her slash hitting me for like 140+ damage and her bite felt like sub 80
Forsaken Powers Plus mod is pretty clutch for these runs I find. That said, I still stay with Eikthyr 90% of the time xD
How often do you find yourself at the altar anyway?
Bonemass power could be argued/considered for hardcore. Especially in Mist. But stam is so important there too
Close to never. Did weirdly have to run/sail from my base (right next to mistlands) all the way back to a mountain immediately next to spawn to find a Moder spawn tho
Hmmm I’m not much a fan of bonemass for mist. Already got root for pierce, and I feel like there’s not as much blunt and slash. Still could be good for dungeons yea
if yr fast enough even they can be outrun
the double claw hit from seekers is blunt. That one hits like a truck through Root chest
surtr' should be the ashlands boss
hardcore adds +20% speed to mobs
Isn’t that what I said?
I run Eikthyr loyally. I prioritize stam over everything.
*very hard
Not hardcore
oh yeah, tru
also you can jump them when they go to strike
I’ll say I’m not a fan of all heavy armor. The speed debuff kills me (literally)
then you get a breather
Flesh rippers and knives are so fun bc I can zoom through the air unburdened and slash at enemies
Nothing as fun as running around mountains in full fenris, flesh rippers, and decent run/jump skill and just meleeing dragons out of the air left and right
do you find any appreciable difference between knives and flesh rippers??
I finally tried Pita's tasty mead tech. Having enough combat confidence to try. Amazing results
Flesh rippers have a 2 hit combo which is super nice. Sadly I don’t use flesh rippers and skoll and hati as much as I want bc the parries just suck
I’d imagine that flesh rippers are the highest dps weapon for Moder given your fist skill is the same as other skills
just practice by doing streaking exploration
interesting, I wasn't aware. That's kinda bonkers, actually
Yea I only learned recently too. I’d totally try to do a fist weapon build if there was more of them in the game
it's also full slash dmg, which is really nice actually
Do flesh rippers increase the power of kicks?
When I get to mistlands I might pull out skoll and hati and magic shield specifically to deal with starred seekers and soldiers
They do extra damage I believe, dunno about the knock back
I’m not a big fan of kicks.
Jumping at someone and THEN doing knife alt tho, that’s a fun one
what is the attack speed on fleshrippers? wiki doesn't say
