Hail
Except the bloody wooden spikes π
True
I keep forgetting about those
No return
I hardly ever use them
I made a spike pit for a bf spawner. To much maintenance keeping the spikes fixed.
At this point itβs a I will never use them based purely on principle π€£
Man coordinated dragon attacks are actually kinda scary. Just walked up on dragons nest and 3 of them came at me at once. Get hit once and you're frozen in place for the other two to take a shot, and they're doing 60+ damage per shot
mofos are becoming intelligent
next thing you know, theyll be planning to take over a biome
They'd probably succeed
did someone say dragons
I did!
huh just uppercut a wolf to send it tumbling down the mountain. It took me with it somehow...
shakes in amusement
I'm reading this and I'm like: HUH
idk which one of these scenarios are easier to imagine lmao
πΊ π
Silly there are no dragons in Valheim
Itβs worse when you combo that with wolves or golems π
Frozen while golem approaches
At least Golem might take some aggro
I still dont know what happened when i got to the mountains in my survival
I had lvl4 iron armor and 190hp then a drake shot its attack to me and i died how does 3 drake shots deal 190dmg to lvl4 irons
Normal difficulty?
hmmm staggered perhaps?
they do 90 damage per shot on normal and shoot 3 shots. If you have frost resist it's gonna be half that damage that goes through. If you don't but if you have full levelled iron I'd expect each shot to be like half that as well. But you coulda gotten staggered and taken extra damage, gotten pushed off a cliff and taken fall damage, got hit by more dragons you didn't see, or had less health than expected
Drakes are brutal if you don't have frost resist
Alright I've explored 2 smallish, 1 medium-large, and 1 large mountain now. Still have only found ONE non-frost-cave structure, and that one didn't have onions. Off to this very big mountain with a howling cave to see if it has any onions for me
I'm just a poor boy in a drake helmet and troll armor, I need da onions
dragons remind me of the ballista tower I built in my devcommands world, it was made of black marble and i spawned 100 of them of watched the massacre lmao
lmao
xd
now you understand why we hid the mistlands boss in a place you're not allowed to build balistas? π

Ashland boss will probably be hidden somewhere too
Should have hid the swamp boss in a place where i couldnt build a treehouse 2 feet taller than him
Where is the fun in that tho
he will not smash your house π
not like before
About that, how is bonemass meant to be beaten by the developers? I just can't do it as I have said to myself I'm not going to use bow and arrows this time (I never got passed bonemass last times I played)
He just get replenished as i run around with my knife and spear killing the skeletons and blobs haha
Use the mace, and get out of the poison cloud when he burps, even with poison resist it will wear you down. Dodge or parry his melee, and use the stage when he pukes to clear adds.
Arrows are pretty much useless, so is knife
Yup Iron mace. What armour you using?
To be fair, im pretty bad at the combat haha, but I'm getting better because I'm not using a bow this time! Yeah I heard someehere you want blunt damage on him?
yes, only damage type he doesn't resist
I am rocking the troll hide at level 3
Good luck)
Keep exploring the swamp, theres other armour that can help alot π
That deep in the swamp you should have root by now
What about food and heal/stamina meads?
As I'm melee and want to be fast, I don't wanna get the heavy gear or the tree gear as it slows you down, it might be my own demise π
I got some meads going! I did use the posiion resistance and had some medium health potions and some minor stamina on me, but I just attack him to slow!
The troll suit is really too weak for swamp, root armor is also light so shouldn't slow you down that much
Tree/root has poisen resist so alongside the mead you dont need to leave the poisen cloud
I mean its fine for swamp, maybe not for bonemass π
Oh right, i forgot about that! I should make it then. I made it for my brother as he has bow and arrow, and it gave a buff to bows or something. I should have enough to make one for myself too! A question about that tho, if i have the trollhide cape on, does that make the root armour loose its full gear buff?
Fair enough, I always get out of the blue rags asap, I hate it π
Nope you only lose the bow skill bonus
I tried to foolishly do bonemass on my own as my brother was not home
Could even just pop on the root helmet on its own as thats what gives poisen resist
Oh okay, so my brother should not wear a cape as he uses bows then, but I can π
Chest piece has pierce resist also, which is good vs enemy archers. And other worse things that come later...
Oh! Didn't know that!
Like the.... Bzzzzzzzzzz ? π
so he just needs to use legs, helm and harnesk to get the bonus
Among others!
Alright!
Yup still using it in mistlands π
I have been in all the biomes apart from the mistlands i think, but I'll make me some root gear and a iron mace and grab my mead and try again!
As long as you're not being chased by the green army, bzzz is not a problem
But its quite deadly when you go there with troll hide gear xD me and my brothers explored a lot last time we played. We were not meant to be in the mountains or the plains or whatever the other one is called with the fulings
Yeah i noticed how i could easily kill the bzzzz with a spear
Nothing more existing than being caught somewhere you're not supposed to be!
Always kill with sword without problems
True!
I like my way π i wait for them to charge and throw the spear at them, and they tend to come quite close so its a little scary but fun way to kill them
Oh also another question, what does the levels do? Say running and jumping, does it cost less stamina as you level up or? I have no idea what the levels does
Depends a bit from each skill, but I think most/all reduce stamina use, weapons tend to do a bit more damage, jump makes you jump higher etc.
There's nothing to do on the plains in troll armor. If you don't want to lose movespeed, you can give your soul to the god of grind and collect Fenrir's armor.
Does this mean that the Ashland boss will be immune to pierce damage??? πππ
I have a run skill of 85 which is like having Eikthyr buff permanently π
And is even weak to it π
It doesent stack, only the greater resistance counts meaning only mead is in efect
I like to go to there and collect the cloudberries so I can make mead, but else its not much one can do there as I have not found out how to smelt the ore one can get of the green little men. But don't spoil it for me π this is the first time I'm even asking about the game, I tried to play this game by just figure out by myself
can't say but it would be bad if we locked out Legolas π€
Damm!! I keep on dying in silly ways, so i was stuck on 28 for th elongest of times xD but now im a at 40 or so i think
How old is this game now even, feels like it came out like a week ago
3 years celebrated recently
Moder, she is the only boss who cannot be skipped in any way, for further gears)
Well disclaimer, I now play on reduced skill drain on death. Made the game much more enjoyable for me
Holy! What is time even?
Yeah, I should probably do that too, as my adhd get me caught up in silly situations and then I lack focus and end up dying hahah
Yep Im a slow learner..
What makes me the most frustrated is that I need to run to get the gear, so kinda wanna do so I spawn with my gear on, but that feels like cheating too me.. then I could keep the skill drain anyway
Also it could be exploited, so probably better not to do that
But I kinda wanna beat the game once before modding or changing anything
I think there Is an option for this in world modifiers
some players use to take the bosses in reverse order. before mistlands
Yeah, If I keep getting frustrated, i might do that for my own sanity π«‘
But eikthyr is op, I cant live without that ability
We call him Einar tho, easier to say
You can kill bosses in any order, you don't need to have top tier items for that
Also i like that fuling is a word in swedish, and no offense to the goblins but they are not the prettiest creatures π
I think they are called fuling, or its my dyslexia reading that every time
Anyway, gtg, need to go somewhere and then I'll get back and try bonemass again. Take care everyone!
Morning gjall.
Mornin π
Mornin'
hi
hello π
Is year of the full release known?
nope
I already got my engineering thesis done and this game is still in ea
Game development takes years, that has never been surprising
Some suggestions have made it into the game.
Or are they listeing to users? I've heard about some quick stack/sort thing that got backed out
Because it didnt feel valheimish
good morning
gm
That question is answered above.
And that's still there
EA made them rich, and brought in like 90% of the total revenue the game will ever make, the motivation to work hard and finish is much less unfortunately
side effect of a successful EA by a small team of devs
Game development always takes years, if it is EA or not, average game development time is 3-5 years and can take longer, take a look at some of the big game developers out there and you'll see.
its about monetary motivation to continue, they got paid for their work before they were finished, finishing won't bring in more revenue so whats the motivation?
Finishing a product, getting their view for the game out there, rewarding their supporters with a good product, building a name for themselves so that if they make another game other people will be interested in that game as well, ...
this is capitalism bud
How much of a product did you get for past 3 years/since ea release? @opal prairie 1 new biome?
Morality apparently. You do know that despite what you said they are still working on the game right? They could've left it at H&H stage or earlier and get it done but didn't
There has been like dozens of update and you're focusing on literally one of them
2 / 3 major updates, and loads of small ones.
in 3 years they built the entire game, did 4 biomes, in 3 years since they'd got 1 biome and some small updates.
Forget it, this discussion has been done many many times before and it's always a waste of time.
Kamap, just leave it, it's not worth it
People wont acknowledge that money is what makes ppl running
yep
Like couldnt they 100% had funds for more employees. They could work closely with modding community. Rimworld creator implements mods into the base game
i dunno how the revenue got distributed, but there was enuf to easily give each dev several million dollars, if i had a couple million dollars, i wouldn't be motivated to work hard unless i could see millions more in the future
If they're not as motivated as when they started because there's no money in it, as you say, they'd be rolling out DLCs π
Its not that there is no more money in this game
Money is what makes people run, doesn't mean that once they have money they stop working on whatever got them that money.
They won't, it's been explicitly stated "no DLCs"
Its that they already got a lot of money
gotta get over the hump of finishing the game for a small fraction of the money they've already made
I don't think that the devs are rolling in money, they might be well off but I doubt they have millions in their personal bank account.
Making a game is expensive.
I dunno, I can't help a morbid fascination in watching people that are completely clueless about game design sit and talk as if they know stuff. It's like watching an animal repeatedly walk into an electric fence. πΏ
More employees isn't equal to get shit done faster.
they did hire more employees
was 1 guy until 2017, hired a team in 2019, released EA in 2020, hired 4 more people...
13 employees
EA brought in 240 million in gross revenue
Yeah but at a certain point it isn't a good idea to add even more people, more people doesn't equate to getting stuff done faster.
nah being broke and needing to work to survive gets shit done faster
Like taller ladder doesnt make you reach higher. Until you use it appropriately
if EA hadn't done as well, the game would probably be done
coping hard
You don't need a taller ladder if the ladder you have let's you reach all that you need to reach.
if theres a thousand bucks at top of the ladder, but you already have a million bucks, the motivation to climb the ladder is much less
@near furnace Bold question of me to aks maybe but how rich are you devs really? Did that "240 million" revenue you raked in make you all extremely wealthy and you wouldn't have to work a day in your life anymore?
it's actually a commonly asked question to me
I get asked in DM alot
but I get a normal paycheck like any other normal human being π
who got the fruits of the labor? lol
Usually that kind of money goes into the company itself. For future projects and backups.
yea it would go towards the company, if i were the one in charge, i would hold the money in escrow till game is finished, then pay everyone a bonus
I'm wondering what kind of companies you work for that you think that the turnover is simply divided among all employees.
turnover is the wrong word, but i definitely wouldn't be opposed to a company that pays their workers a portion of the profits
the company π
especially a small company that hits so big
correct
and 240 million revenue is a very very bold statement π
12 million copies, $20 each
so 20$ is just not something you can use either
you're right, turnover is the wrong word. but i guess my point was understandable π
I always am ;)
since the game cost less than 5$ in some countries during a steam sale
true
and then steam takes 30% the first sales a company do
May I see the evidence of that, please?
Because in some country, statements like this may be considered as slander.
So got anything to back this statement up?
And with "anything", I'm not meaning the slow development and the presumed income the dev's had; but real facts.
Like a quote from a dev stating that or a you-tube vid where one or more dev's mention this happening.
A more interesting question would be how much you guys earned (to the company) after all taxes and other reductions. Per sale.
it's a number π
and then it becomes uninteresting once you know it
3 years to develop everything prior to mistlands, 3 years for mistlands, is the evidence of slowing .
True enough, but it could be interesting number to slap int he face of people that keeps making statements like these "They make 5 cents per game sold you know."
trust me. you will see Ashlands what we can do π
But not the evidence of what you claimed.
i hope so, love the game, don't have a huge issue with the slow development, was just conversating
Are you forgetting the rewrite of the engine, all the qol things added, hildir and such you can't only measure with a new biome, look at the whole picture.
You guys already did that multiple times π₯°
Weβre just along for the ride at this point π€©
well we'll see, at this rate we'll get the great north in 2026/2027
Wait I didnt think the slow dev was an issue for you. Drop the shovel buddy
?
he just said it wasn't an issue π
Could have fooled me ;p
I bet they're already getting started on Deep North by now
You don't have an issue with the "slow development" but then you have a dig about deep north?
no no no no
They already started doing research about Deep North (Since they live in it) :p
ummm, stating i don't have an issue with slow development, then pointing out the pace doesn't really change that
once Ashlands is done
it needs to be even more balanced (mobs, damages, resistances, recepies) to figure out if we need more or less or something
then more testing
Ah
<MOAR_kylo.gif>
How to contradict yourself within 2 minutes.....
Jookya β vandaag om 11:37
3 years to develop everything prior to mistlands, 3 years for mistlands, is the evidence of slowing .
Jookya β vandaag om 11:38
i hope so, love the game, don't have a huge issue with the slow development, was just conversating
π€
im running out of space on my buildables page, wondering how they'll tackle that, currently scroll wheel changes page
how is that a contradiction, i pointed out development is slow, and said that doesn't bother me
the moment you point it out, it shows it bothers you.
If it doesn't, you wound't need to mention it in the first place, nor mentioning how long it took the dev's how much time it took them to do the various bigger updates.
whatever dude
being aware of the slow development, and thinking about reasons why, doesn't mean im upset about the slow development
Weren't you saying you're not happy with the slow development of this game due to lack of motivation then you or someone mentioned hiring more devs, which implies you're bothered by the slow progress
Truly a reddit moment
no i was hypothesizing that lack of motivation was the reason behind slow development
you totally misread what i said
Well
Ah okay
Yeah we all misread it
The only thing I see is the same bunch of assumptions I see popping up both here and at the steam forum over time; but no-one is giving any true evidence of it other as "development has slowed down, which means they are just taking the money and run" or the "they just did a cash grab" or the "they lost the motivation after making so much of an income of it."
Show proof of it and don't abuse the slower development as an "excuse". Because just a few minutes ago a dev was here and surprisingly not a single thing was mentioned about the lack of motivation......
we don't work for irongate. we don't know the internal stuff going on, why would you expect me to know that
And yeah development of such a simple survival game that Valheim is, cant be compared to some big EA releases, like some earlier did. Well they can be compared but it doesnt make any sense
im honestly happy they didn't abandon the game after EA release like half of studios do
But saying more employees wont make game develop faster - lmao. With bad organization maybe.
Proof you know nothing about software dev right there
You need to screw in one screw lets put 3 people on it it will get screwed in faster.
Letβs get one thing straight here:
Valheim is being developed on the fly
or you need to screw in 3 screws, and u put 3 people on it.
And you were telling me that I dont have any knowledge about development. lmao
They COMPLETELY reworked mistlands for release, same on Ashlandβs
umm mistlands was an empty area before release, i wouldn't call it "reworked" they replaced the placeholder...
Yeah I made my camp there because it was the safest place XD
Because this is a small development studio, they are not creating a big benga pile of details off the bat.
They are inventing this stuff as they go
ok, picture this, you want to bake a pie, you put it in the oven but it takes too long for your liking, but what if i give you ANOTHER oven? π does it go faster?
another stupid metaphor
False.
No it wasn't, it had trees, webs, skeleton heads and many other things. THEN they made it empty, THEN they made the Mistlands.
If 3 screws need to be screwed in and their is enough room to put 3 people next to each other to screw in those 3 screws at once then yeah it might be a good idea to put 3 people on the job.
Now if those 3 screws are in a cramped space and it will only fit 1 person than it will still be a bad idea to put 3 people on the job.
The trees and stuff were just placeholder stuff though.
Mistlands had a design of cobwebs, big trees, giant skulls
Comparing advanced development process to baking pie lmao. Are all here first to say you have no knowledge about X and then prove they dont themselves?
If so, then where have all the cob webs found in Mistland prior to release gone?
Dissolved by the mist or did the Dvergr eat them?
it was a placeholder biome, they scrapped it but there wasn't a ton of work into it in the first place
They changed it drastically from what it was into what it is now
It still wasn't empty though π
There was a decent amount of work bud
we scapped it because monsters couldn't traverse it and pathfinding was horrible
Several long hours of designing and coding that had to be redone
amongst other ideas we came up with
but from our end, we never had monsters or structures or anything, just trees and cobwebs
Iirc dvoid had used it to test some stuff and didn't bother removing it before ea release since it wasn't in the way of anything (yet).
and skulls, and more skulls, and diffrent size skulls. and roots and sometimes fulings in there because they can end up anywhere
Just saying that hiring more people to get a job done doesn't work in any business, there is always a limit to how many people you can put on a job.
a lot of staff in studios is often in the art department
i feel like valheim with its 16 bit textures doesn't need a ton of artists
What a wild take, just because something is 16 bit doesn't mean it doesn't need to be designed or modeled.
I was hoping mods would kill this discussion a while ago
Yep there they go again
it means the time investment is a lot less, also the models are low polygon, also less time investment
also if u have more artists you have to work harder to make sure the art all matches up
Anyway I learned the joys of getting raided by mobs hostile to the biome mobs you find yourself at.
I got the (in)voluntary help of two trolls and later an army of skeletons in plains
well...
well..
we..
This isn't #general after all so go there and discuss Iron Gate as a company if you so wish.
This chat is #valheim-chat after all
We are discussing valhiem development right?
guess thats an irongate topic
you guys are all just guessing and arguing with each other over things I just can explain to everyone of you by answering pretty much all questions.
so you don't end up having to have the same old fights of "number of developers versus content created per hour spent" discussions
This discussion was more than that, but yeah Judge kamap was hooked on this one
ive got like 400 hours in valheim, if u guys dissappeared off the planet i wouldn't get mad lol. I got my $$ worth which is more than i can say about a lot of modern games from big studios
Huh nice, I just learnt that its difficult to outrun a Gjall in a Karve π
Valheim would benefit greatly from steam workshop, and collaboration with modding community
Not the same as discussing ingame activities that already exist
@near furnace is more integrated modding a feature that the team is considering?
No not really - again with the too many cooks spoiling the broth
As I noted earlier, this is an indie studieβs game
Again with supid metaphores lmao. People here likes extremes
Yes please, clear all this up.
yeah, its great sometimes
It is THEIR GAME.
They are making it how they want it
a lot of indie games thrive on their modding community
yeah and modders would FORCE their mods into their game. Bruuuuuuuuuh discussion with you π
Very true, but again, it is the developerβs choice on the matter
stop hijacking chat or I just temp close it π
i went to general
I want to make a lovely mistlands base.
Full pathways and walks through the whole biome.
I prefer the island hopping type since it often looks prettier and has the option of building huge bridges π€©
i made one on top of a spire with a blue orb
Nice and quiet now
5 minutes slowmode π’
Would it be for me? I noticed.
The power of Smiffe!
Unlimited power!!! π
Place the karve on top and sail the gjall. Easy solution
Do ghalls flee when low on health? Maybe you could harpoon one and use it to drag the boat π€
smiffe how did you get hacked?
magic
Elemental or blood?
the draugrs hacked you
thats incorrect answer to that question
some monster tries to flee
yeah, the trauma is super annoying
will there be any monsters that are going to use lighting type of attacks?
Yagluth does
eikthyr does
Is there a decent non fandom wiki?
I think no
Eh?
Which ones?
Never had that so far as I can tell π
Maybe cause I murder them before they can get away
The Valheim wiki is great and made by lovely local folks here in the discord!
trolls sometimes tend to run away from me π€·ββοΈ
Trolling the trolls and then trailing the trolls?
exactly
Huh.
I thought they were just running cause they couldnβt pathfinder a way to get to me
Legit only see that sort of thing when I use a bow π€
Same with swamp abominables actuallyβ¦
ah yes, the abomination also runs away when it gets distracted or idk
i'm not sure if that happens when i'm not using a bow. im a scaredy-cat, i usually first run away and/or use a bow π
for the abomination i jump on a crypt and use the axe. and hope its focus stays on me and it does not run away
its more common recently, not sure how long. trolls, aboms, lox, draugurs, even wolf sometimes when you shoot it from distance
will valheim drop on ps?
we have no idea, probably not before 1.0 though
Itβs mostly on Xbox because Xbox reached out for it so I imagine a lot of that depends on if ps reaches out
I thought there are can't be ea games on ps, don't know if it's true though
playstation don't allow Early access games on there platform
but don't count on us porting to every possible console or so :/
but 7 days to die is avaliable and its in alpha or beta idk
thats kinda sad but i will live with playing this game on pc
Hello, my friend is trying to download the game from Steam, but it is stuck on 93 percent, whats the problem?
Sounds like an internet or steam issue, restart the download?
Make sure you have enough space too
We tried, she has 600GB free space. We restarted the download, deleted all files ecc.
Oh now it downloaded it properly Thank you
We didn't do anything but you're welcome \o/
The problem is steam cloud, the game is downloaded and is working, but if it tries to sync the game cloud it is stuck on 93 percent.
Is the ashlands update so far still scheduled for the first quarter of this year?
sweet
ah no
not sweet
oh, well that's acceptable i guess. Google said first quarter
google said that? interesting π€
Ah yes, my Valheim cloud hasn't worked ever, I just save locally :/ dunno why
it actually worked for me quite well, but it had the tendency to freeze the game in mornings when the game saved π
So it's Google who spreads rumours
Lifetime ban for that gentleman
google says "The Ashlands update has been confirmed for the first half of 2024." when i search "when will ashlands come out"
O, what a little sly chameleon
Could you give the link of the website that showed this?
Euh, it's literally just the first thing that pops up in google when looking for the ashlands update release datye
gamerant huh
i think there are but please keep it strictly english
Mind that the server is English only, please and thanks
You might find Brazilian servers in #1024264966712340510
Okay, I've been playing Valheim for 3 weeks and I still haven't found a large community of Brazilians
Also hecc, just tried googling and even the first link (gamerant) says first half
thankss
Imagine having a large community from your country dedicated to a game. Couldnt be me
How many South Americans does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A Brazillian.
OMFG i have conquered the ||gjall|| that lurked into my base took me a few tries to understand what it does lol and successfully recovered my items after a crap ton of deaths xD, dude even took out my portal and had to travel by karve LOL
Bye gjall.
Does anyone know about some new blind playthroughs in progress to follow (at any platform)? Still in a serious search for it..
I'm still trying to catch up to True Blue, he has SO many episodes...
Also still watching Blondie!
is their a way to spawn proof in mist?
Same as anywhere, workbenches I guess?
i see
My Mistlands outpost is pretty chill, almost no mobs around
Workbenches and campfires (I use campfires since enemies don't attack them). Wisp torches clear the mist, but they don't prevent spawns.
ah damn was thinking about wisp torches. aight ill do that thankss!
The other nice thing about campfires is they don't have to be lit, you can let them go out and just ignore them. I use them all the time because they're cheap.
im gonna place some for my dudes
Another trick I'll do sometimes is I'll use workbenches to make sure the radius coverage is correct, then I'll go back through and replace them with campfires so that enemies won't roll through and destroy my spawn blocking during a raid or something.
I thought only work enches prevented spawns in the radius campfires do also?
The best part about wisp torches is them not needing a bench to be placed ^^ you can clear A LOT of mist if you just put some on the huge rocks in the area
hmm very handy
Any "player base" structure will prevent spawns. Beds, torches, fires, all kinds of stuff: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base
Wisp torches in the ||Queens Dungeon|| (late mistland spoiler) πͺ
you can build in the queens area?
limited things
Yes, without workbench things easy to place
Same as any dungeon, basic stuff
That's why its a great idea to put campfires in dungeon entrances, get re-rested and sheltered the easy way
you can build in all dungeons, just can't place workbenches or forges and such, so everything you build has to be buildable without workstations
that's cool i didn't use any wisp torches i thought you were just suppoed to beat her in the fog lol
Especially in crypts, remove wet effect
Wisp torches are cool because you can build them without workbenches, similar to campfires.
It helps so much. She will break them during the fight accidentally but they're easy to put back up and if you've spammed them all over she'll take a while to accidentally break them
*re-rested and resting
anyone know if the mist affects stealth?
Wisp torch isn't prevent spawning?
Mist doesn't affect the sound you make, which is stealth, but it will prevent enemies from seeing you which is the only way they can fully aggro against you.
Nope
Sad
Other torces do tho
But other torches take aggro
but enemies attack those π Which is why you use campfires for spawn prevention.
Pretty>functional anyday
Pretty+Functional is the best combo
Campfires are the best spawn prevention that enemies don't treat as a primary target, and it's super handy that they don't need a bench to create. Build a campfire and place a wisp torch on it for when it goes out π
I honestly gave one more chance to him after that previous mention and tried to catch up but found myself impatiently skipping whole parts of episodes (though usually my attention span is pretty advanced), so eventually i gave up.
imagine someone doing full immersion gameplay and drawing a map in the mistlands xD
Understandable, I sometimes skip some parts too but I always remind myself it's because I know TOO much about the game, it's very easy to get frustrated ^^
I haev no doubt some people do
It could end up kinda rough navigating mistlands without a map too
ahh yea guess so
Right, but that what i strive to see in the first place: raw impressions and thinking process of a person first time playing the game. There might be false assumptions and some weird ideas or weird thinking, but the core, there should be a real intelligent core to it, otherwise it turns into some random playing
thats something people do? Not use the map in valheim and draw their own to try to navigate?
Some people like to suffer for their fun
mhm. Playing on immersive where it removes your map and minimap (and portals, although that's optional)
I understand, yet to find something like that though! Something I notice most people have a problem with is they compare Valheim to other games so they draw very, very misinformed conclusions ^^
Yesh, world modifier before you enter world!
World modifier yea. selected before loading up your world
World settings was the best thing added imo
Yes, you should try it. Once tried never ever will you want this stupid real map which game gives to you;)
I like to suffer for my fun but I prefer very hard difficulty, permadeath, and banning the meta weapons. No map just seems frustrating π
I play normal except no raids. Iβve lost too many houses to raids
i feel like it's pretty normal to compare something you havent experienced with something you're more familiar with, whether that's the right thing to do idk
lol im not so sure about that
I saw even more, + hardcore difficulty + 1 life, so death = ban
it's a lot of fun, gets tense
preparing for yagluth. how many pots to make?
I could never do 1 life, Ive died way too many times from trees somehow pinching me and killing me instantly
Funny to see that 40 players at begin, and after first day 2 times less
if you make one batch (6) of stamina, hp, and fire resist that'll be more than enough
i think i gotta do 2 batches to be safe, fire resist is easy to make so ill make a ton
yea gotta be damn careful. I was doing swamp crypts with 3 hp foods, one of them being serpent stew
wild
I was at 180hp, walked through a door in the crypt, instantly got shot by a regular and a starred draugr, instantly at 40hp and staggered
lol I cleared a sliver of mud and got shot by two archers and died instantly. Day 18
I think it is already close to impossible as all the more or less intelligent people have already tried the game and had their first impressions spent..
oh and star chances are higher on harder difficulty too. I no joke had a body pile spit out 4-5 enemies (2 at a time, but I was killing them) and THREE of them were 2 star enemies
Mb there are couple of those still living under a rock tho
Rocks are great with the price of rentals
You are telling it is very smart to live under one of those? Mb
Yeah, can make a nice small base like a hobbit
its nice, bofore troll raid come to say hi π
Hence why I turned raids off π
One rock is not enough to initiate a raid on you
If you donβt kill a troll wonβt get troll raid
But I need those sweet blue pajamas
So mb it's really waaay too smart
But you want to kill for his skin, and after for his head
Only troll can break rock in BF. No place is safe in that regard.
Can't kill troll before bonemass. To avoid raid. So I read.
Swamp immortal tree?)
Wraiths still say hi
Free chains
It's good, free chains)
lol I agree
Nobody is saying hi, ok?;)
With double drop rate it's "Two Chains"
They just attack without saying a thing
βOh thatβs some nice moonlight β¦ ohβ
If they don't see then they don't attack, so just live without windows)
If that were true
My activity under a rock wouldn't aggro
Raids mobs have rengen vision
Resident cave dweller here
any tips on finding the boss stones in plains?
go to a high place
In my pro experience, you'll just find the boss itself before you find the vegvisir...
Go over all world and find Yagluth before vegvisir
i saw two small standing stones yesterday. but no vegvisir, i thought maybe i missed it
ah must be just stones xD
yeah lol
I look for the stone structures that are single story and open air. But the veg isn't always there either
that's how it do be. Investigate any Stonehenge looking areas, and keep an eye out for a huge stone grasping hand. I often find Yagluth's altar before I find a vegevisir pointing to it. Just sail a lot and go through all the Plains areas you can find.
but it really looks like the vegvisir i saw from screenshots
Just look for smth different like Haldor, or a mountain and you'll find yagluth. And vice versa
Surely there's a YouTube video describing potential veg locations for plains boss?
This is the way
distortion of perception
This is the way
End of the day it's just RNG, but the Boss "arena" itself is far more noticible and easier to spot than the actual vegvisir, so I'd just sail around and do a jog through whatever plain you come across ^^
#screenshots message This is the way
Gotta say, im a BIG fan of the addition of the option to change snapping mode, makes building so much nicer
Snapping is so good
Oh yes
Yea, this one is still very impressive for me
i found vegvesir similar way, was sailing early game looking for something, i didnt even touch plains yet and saw it from the ocean
but most of the time i struggle to find him as well
Oh, i know. Look for a lynx. They say there should be only one (very secretive) in every world.
anyone have any tips that could be useful for yagluth? I've beaten him once before but i just want to know what i could do to make it quicker
That's...not true? D:
One time I entered a swamp for the first time on my world and within 1 minute found 6 turnip plants and within 3 minutes found Yags altar
Devs don't want anybody to know a thing about it though. Some conspiracy going on
Typically the most efficient strategy is to use fire resist barleywine, and then melee with a silver sword, frostner or blackmetal sword (unless you're coming back later after having higher tier gear)
no im in a new world
i wonder if that dude who was struggling to find turnips found some
If you ask Smiffe directly he would probably deny everything
i always turn foliage settings to low for that reason
I havenβt yet π
could using fenring armor work? because it makes resistant to fire somewhat and makes me quicker overall
Staying to Yags back side seems legit. Fairly painless clear that
I mean... I think you're just spreading misinformation here unless you're joking π₯²
First playthrough I didn't find turnips until my tenth swamp or suchlike
xD wtf
turnips can be weird on some maps you'll get none in the swamps lol
It works decently, but a hit can be very punishing if you misstep. It's up to your confidence and skill level with that. He also does a lot of blunt and lightning damage, not just fire damage.
Oh i see, you're one of them. Ok, that's fine
Then a greydorf shaman came and puked on my plot
yes, but than you will be vulnerable against other mobs
You get barley wine in plains from barley (to make fire resist). And hten use silver sword or frostner fully levelled for best results. Black metal sword alright too
I'd recommend maybe fenris legs and chest for the movement speed buff to outrun meteors, but maybe a padded helmet for some armor
This playthrough has been cursed. Lost my world file to a corrupt save, started a new seed that is promising. But no turnips. Gonna de command some in if I donβt find any soon
spawn one to make it fair xD
Yeah spawn three seeds
βIt was right there this whole time!β
Have you found turnips before? I generally find that it's easy to miss them more than that they don't exist in a world. I can't tell you how many swamps that I've been through 10 times that I go back through and find turnip seeds I didn't see.
i dont understand why is always someone suggesting a weapon, let him use whatever he likes and is good with π
Oh yeah been playing since before hearth and home
lynx?
Padded helm, root chest, fenr legs, cape of choice. This is me leading into Mist
Yeah, sometimes RNG is just a cruel mistress, too π
it's definately possible i don't see them my eyes are all messed up since treatment. oddly i don't have trouble finding any of the other materials
my world is pretty cursed aswell, all 4 elders are almost at the edge of the map
I generally recommend Frostner for efficiency with silver. The Silver Sword is best against Yagluth, but the Frostner is much more generally applicable against more enemies, and is the best weapon to take into the Mistlands initially.
but i already got past it xD its was a pretty chill long journey
At least you can set up outposts on your way
i think newer maps are a bit cursed for moder too i was plugging random ones into the world generator and a lot of the time she was behind mislands lol
many would disagree, me on the top π
I'd say tips include gear. I just default to gear more bc whenever I try to push playstyles / dodging people tend to find it less useful due to skill differences
i found the vegvisir
No, never heard of it
i found it near a fuling village. very lucky
lucky
jesus
Two-star fulings, my bloody nemesis. See a green guy that isn't actually green? BEWARE
its almost at the end of the world
Yay!
fair enough, but still if its new player, that never used sword or mace, better use the weapon of his choice
I really need to embrace two handed weapons, but I love sword and board
Must be mental finding the bosses on immersive. Sounds like vegvisir are mostly obsolete in no map
krom is both a sword and a board
im thinking of just sailing to it right now and putting up a portal.
it was not that hard to be honest. I had a good feeling about this island
Sometimes the gut is worth trusting ey
That reminds me I need to build a portal hub
i just gotta make a lot of lox pies to be prepared for this boss. think im gonna fight him later today, I think i have enough totems
depending on the weapon yea. I imagine if they have a protest to the weapons suggested they might bring it up. I just don't want them going in there if their weapon of choice is a spear, knife, atgeir, or bow, and doing only 25% damage to the lad
Are you also playing very hard no map?
I'd hate it
What I love about in game difficulty sliders is we can all play the way we want to now.
regular mode
I started watching Henrik's immersive play through. He mentioned how the veg work or ehm don't early in the first vid
I think I remember a suggestion for making the vegvisirs point your camera in the direction of the boss, which I think would be cool
I may go normal-hard no map. I'm dragging my feet on pulling the trigger
It seems that the standing stones for yagluth are more narrow and wider.
And Hugin showing up to tell you when you're nearby a trader (when they usually show up on your map)
regular ones have a wide opening, for yagluth it seems really narrow
it works that way
they be lookin' like a hand
o. Doesn't seem so useless then although still rough
you just cant touch your mouse
Henrik explained similar Snail. But depending on distance from player, the nudge can be subtle to barely detected
Why should the distance matter to show you the direction?
I mean might be more difficult to stay on course on a long journey to somewhere, but you should get the intial direction from the veg no matter distance
I don't have experience to judge that
might be a problem if youre on console and have stickdrift
sometimes its not perfect direction you can set and the bigger distance, the bigger deviation it can create
there is 5 of them in circle, they are bent and looking like a hand
true, i m not on console, cant really say about that
im talking about the vegvisir
Wow, totally forgot that silver ore weighs a whopping 14 units π
Cart yeeting is fun and a Valheim right of passage
Haha yeah, Iβve seen a lot of tips about throwing carts off mountains. Iβll have to give it a try.
Iβve always done the oleβ tried and true βcarry it yourselfβ method. But with this play through, Iβll be wanting a lot of extra silver.
what are the best foods for yagluth? I'm thinking some soups, lox pie, sausages. but of course this probably will get me to around 130 hp, not sure if theres a better combination that is easy to gather
I'd like a horn to make my own honks with, to aggro monsters and call buddies to arms
I still think sliding down with pockets full of silver works better
i did him today with lox pie, bread and wolf skewers
Guess it depends on the mountain, terrain shape and all that.
True
Def not sausages. If possible replace them with serpent stew, if not then wolf skewers or another plains health food if there is one (havenβt been in plains for a while)
fish wraps
fish wraps i did yesterday but im not sure getting fish seems not that easy
That ^
Silver weighs a lot, and it requires a huge amount of silver to make some of the basic gear (for example, iron sword vs silver sword). Itβs an interesting approach.
Fishing ainβt bad with a fishing rod as long as you donβt need mass quantity
Planting crops in a sub-trance. Bzzzzt STING. Those pesky bugs...
So why no serpent channel in vc? this one is a serious infringement. There's a nest and a pit, but not a single serpent mention. I would like to sit there 24/7
Maybe the server itself is a serpent
fishing is pretty chill. felt like i was playing minecraft and fishing irl, with me sleeping and just listening to it
I like how you think..
Heil Hydra
I wish fishing would have more use. At least it matters a tad in mistlands
fishing for enchanted books lol
that was like my goto meta to progressing in minecraft xD long but relaxing
Has anyone found The Queen playing with no map?
I Dont think the people i know have reached it yet
I havenβt seen mention of someone even finding yagluth no map
dunno, I'd assume so update has been out a while. I'd imagine finding queen is easier than Yag tho because although Queen has a pretty disguised structure, and it is a preset huge one so if you know what it looks like it's not too bad to spot from a distance
I have 2 full playthroughs on nomap (with fighting the queen as an end rn)
found yag before bonemass while exploring randomly, but i guess i'll call it quits for the queen, it's even hard to find her on regular mode :p
I'd say queen is super easy to find on regular
Yag is a pain on regular and no map tho if you don't get good rng and just come across him immediately
I would say it might be hard to find some boss, but other times it comes so naturally that you forget about it being a thing
I found Yagluth when I was still looking for the Elder altar. :>
#screenshots message
sup guys so i got a bronze chest from hildris quest it was a copy bc i gave her a bronze chest before and she doesnt want to accept it. What do I do with it?
Don't be eager to find the next boss. Enjoy your freedom. Bonemass basically forced me to progress through the mountains. I was quite happy 'working from home'. Now I have to wear some cold-resistant gear!
Nothing, I think
oh alr thx
Decorate with it.
I'm skipping bonemass bc he's gonna force me to be hunted by a infinite pack of wolves in mountain
not infinite, just enough to kill you π
If you keep killing them during the raid they keep coming back π
That's such a fun idea. Playing through Valheim for the first time (assuming you haven't researched TF out of the game beforehand), you're going to get destroyed by world events that you didn't expect. The question is: is it more fun to plan for it, or just to discover it in the course of play?
i know, it was a joke
Always more fun to discover everything for the first time
I will say tho I've really been enjoying figuring out how to effectively biome skip/postpone to give me a balanced shot at Very Hard mode
I would agree. There's also the inherent frustration to that of 'learning-by-doing', though.
true. I hate a game where I can't get the initial hang of it and get turned off from it. Once I get somewhat of a hang how things work tho I love trying to discover and figure out the rest of the game tho
Anyone know if allied skeletons and dvergr get the damage bonus of hard and very hard mode? I would assume dvergr do since they can be hostile too (could be they only get it when they become hostile, but I reckon they'll have a damage bonus on spawn), but the skeletons I feel like wouldn't although I really really hope they do
oh and tames too
According to redit tames do get damage buff which makes me hopeful of skellies
Dvergr are incredibly stubborn. Even an accidental arrow/bolt to one of their kind will turn them against you for eternity.
dvergers do, they hit like truck on hard mode, i m not that far on very hard. idk about skletons
no witnesses

yea I look forward to weaponizing a 2 star ice mage. 0 star normal mode ice mage is already an absolute menace, multiplying that damage by 4x can only be a war crime
even the children must not know of the mistake youve made
"I am not the purgatoried Viking you're looking for"
cause I am, was helping them kill their enemies until i accidentally hit one of them
i also hate killing them, they are soooo cute
but i must correct my mistake to prevent further bloodshed
pitting enemies against each other on very hard is such a fun time. Just damage numbers going crazy all over the place
Hello, will there ever be Steam achievements for Valheim? π
Likely. I'm not 100% sure if devs confirmed there will achievements, but I know they said that it won't happen before the game releases though (which should be around when Deep North biome gets added)
My guess is that that will happen in a few years, so then from there on achievements have a good chance of being added
Ah okay. Thank you! π
There is this thing that makes me kinda sad
Visiting my old worlds..
My very own builds, all of them become a time capsule
I love stumbling upon an old outpost I made in my world lol
They make me really sad, i always feel like i lived there, thrived, had happy moments and all of a sudden those majestic places i spent hours upon
Looks empty, dark, like nobody lived there and its just random building left for nothing
than dont visit them?
Thanks for pointing out the obvious solution, im just expressing my feelings in the hopes of finding like minded response π
Stumbling upon an old build and all the torches and campfires have gone out. βIf these walls could talkβ
Lol π hi there rianu
Havenβt seen you in, in ages??!
i felt nostalgia when doing that as well, thats why i dont do it anymore π
Seeing old builds makes me happy in a nostalgic way. A bit sad if I built it with a friend and we havenβt played together in a while tho
If you can survive death youβre cool
cheated death i see
Since playing this game for 600 hours already, in my last playthrough i decided i had enough if grinding and moving metals around and turned off portal restrictions
My tactics has changed as well, i soend more time focusing on my main build rather building a shit shack at the start
Then abandoning it due to having to build outpost near ore deposit areas so i can progress even further in the game
Thus not enjoying the building aspect of the game from very early on but rather delaying it for end game because moving metals to my main base all over the world map was not always an enjoyable experience to say least
Now, i strarted building a cozy place in meadows instead of shit shack like i used to, i donβt need to make outposts and force myself to move out since
thats why we have world modifiers. pretty nice addition
I can just portal stuff and make my base complete with new stuff that i unlock along the progression
i agree hauling those large crates filled with metals. the pain
Yes, yes and yes again! It was the most important addition for me.
It drastically changed the way i played this game and i can surely stay in one place without worrying on moving metals around
as was said earlier today, these changes gives us options to play the game as we like it. some playing very hard difficulty, some switch no portal restrictions, some play immersive. big add to the game
black soup, turnip stew + lox pie. ive got a lot of it for yagluth, i plan to use wolf skewers at first though
I donβt like to haul metals too far which is why I set up my main base near a swamp that has iron and a tall mountain. In my current play through iron is a 2 minute jog away and silver takes 1-1.5 minutes to get from the top of the mountain and to my smelter
where do you place the portal for yagluth? how far away?
far enough away that you won't get a base raid during, you only make that mistake once lol
im just hopin g its not a god damn village there near the boss
My main base in my latest world is on top of a pillar on a Plains island where I've raised the ground for a farm and protection. Iron is a 3 minute sail across a strait, still have 3 untouched crypts, and silver and bronze were just a bit further off, but only an hour or two to get enough to make all the upgrades and such I needed.
I dunno like, 70m? I donβt usually need a portal nearby for him
now i need two more totems. i had like 4 and i cant find em
xD mustve been stolen by the gremlins
Uh oh better make a good sorting system. Put those black metal chests to use!
oh dude black metal chests. theee best and cheapest imo
since my heart burns to kill more of those laughing green fks..soo when we getting baby gremlins?...not that im going to do anything bad to them ofcourse not. i take that back
are you sure you want something than you wont see in the grass and wont be able to hit with any weapon? π
now when i need totems i cant find em. what luck i have
time to SET SAIL!
Look for a lynx i told you
you keep talking about a lynx
set sail to the pyramids
im very fortunate. i just found another yagluth spawn very near my haldor portal, so no need to sail. still need the two totems tho
Cause you keep not finding things
dont know what you're talking about
lmao
looks like swamp portal is very close to yagluth. gonna go there maybe i can find the two more totems there
jesus h christ 4 berserkers
no totems though here. 5 actually
Hunter's bow, draw them off one at a time π A spin with a blackmetal ategir can stun a normal or I think even a one-star
yeah but no totems. i just need 2 more to spawn yagluth
The berserkers can drop them
thats quite rare iirc (tho i think i had one that droped me yesterday π )
Don't forget they can be in the stone towers as well
i must check those then
right now im just gonna go to yagluth boss spawn near haldor. great chance of totems on that plains as well
The bigger buildings with Fulings in them, not the small things with central stairs
very lucky that the island is barely connected. swamp has one small patch connecting it to yagluth
May as well get a portal setup so you can get to Yagluth easily
yeah thats why im going right now
World modifiers was probably the best change since Valheim went early access.
Would it be weird if I argued some biomes might be easier or at least faster to complete on Very Hard than on Normal mode? I mean of course it depends on the specific situation but I think very hard gives some nice advantages in several biomes
Like how? Do enemies drop more resources?
no, its the raids
my yagluth spawn boss is right neck to a black forest. very nice
Raid frequency doesnβt change in very hard
Meadows you have better chances at starred dears and boars which is rly nice,
Dvergr in mistlands are twice as strong and more likely starred so can dispatch mobs for you with ease
Assuming dead raiser works as I hope and anticipate those skellies do double damage too which can be good for mistlands and probably great for Ashlands
Oh yea and wolves are one shot to kill for most mobs anyways so getting hunted event in plains with double damage wolves that can inflict more pain on lox and goblins before being deleted is nice too
also tars can delete whole villages and bunch of lox pretty fast
tar spitting burst rifles
i went to plains just to gather some tar for my roofing, brought a village there, deleted- brought 3 lox- deleted, had to kill them myself at the end
I just realized that there are rag pants in the game
Who in their right mind would craft those
me πββοΈ
no totems, ive been to over 6 villages. very lucky
go for those 5 berserkers π
got most of my totems from them
Do the plains have 2 armor sets?
No
Is there any graphics mod that still works? I know the pixel graphics were part of the charm of the game, but I love HD graphics if I can find them.
#mods-discussion would be where to ask
Oh sorry and thank you.
Baking stuff in the oven is so oddly satisfying
place a chair infront of it and sit down
Baking irl is such a damn chore making the dough π
But the smells are lovely, I can almost feel them in-game π
oh indeed xD wish it was the same as throwing flour into a cauldron ang magically turn it to dough xD
ahhh the smell of yeast in the kitchen
cant even smell so
π¦
you cant smell?
that is what i said
ahh damn thats just sad
Baking is science, cooking is art, I'm not very good at either π
yeast+flour+water=bread xD
you forgot the most important ingredience, time π
Lov
oh that aswell
through my precise calculations ive concluded, i suck at math
you gotta FEEL it
i am doing 10000 calculations a second... and they are all wrong!!!
been fighting yagluth for over 40 minutes with a friend
group effort
The Max Power way?
hows the fight going?
no pots left
40 minutes and counting?
you should be able to even shoot him to death in that time π€
i wonder what their strat is?
strat is killing him
but how
must be the viking YOLO way
Tickling him with feathers
i think my heart wouldve stopped after 40 minutes of that torture
id be seeing the meteor everytime someones raises their hand xD. those scenes might even play in my sleep LOL
I can solo Yag in around 5 minutes with a maxed out Frostner... it shouldn't take too long unless you're on repeated death runs π
Was just thinking deaths are involved
maybe even the flying kind
also, are they even propperly equiped for the boss fight if its taken 40 minutes
Forgetting to clear out the nearby tar pits and getting swarmed with blobs, and there are always a few fulings or whatnot...
With the power of friendship they shall win β€οΈβπ₯
well i've never fought him so good luck
mess up a few times in the beginning and over 40 mins is what you end up with. still fighting him
defeated
Congrats! Now go do it again and get his trophy for your home! π
gonna try to find mistlands
good luck π
Do drauger respawn in their meadow villages evem after smashing the body piles?
nope dont think so
got there. real weird thing. i saw big blue clouds
i assume you brought some portals with you?
beware of the flying roaches
and hot air balloons π
yes
listen to the war drums
if you hear fog horn... run...
did i just get into a bad patch or is this what mistlands is? cause all i see is just rocks
most of it is rocks π
oh, youll see more of it
Hard to see anything in the Mist
i know, if only we have something to light our way with π
the wisp thing you mean
mhmmm
or there is a long shiny piece of metal you can get later π
gotta love the smol guys, i start hiding behind them as i see bugs
to get loads of boar meat should i make a boar farm
A dversion if you will
or just kill them out in the field
if you want stable source of it then go for the farm
and get 1 or 2 starred boar
made mead, to battle, forgot mead, i died
seekers are not so muc htroubl e as gjall is , i just saw him first time. very scary in the mist
duuude have you heard the sound they make? fking epic
so first impressions of mistlands are, really interesting biome. it really uses the mythological side of things.
Ashlands will be out in first half of 2024
There will be a public test beta
Do you love it or hate it or both?
Have you met all the major enemies in the Mistlands yet?
i cant hate it i was there for around 20 mins before gjall chased us out
dont think so. only saw tick, seekers and gjall
Gotcha. Yeah, the Dvergr can help with the other enemies π Gjall have that big pulsating thing on the bottom for a reason, too...
dvergr is a friendly npc?
At least until you find out they have an essential item locked in a chest.
But the good thing, it's only one tower where they're hostile to you if / when you try to grab that item.
And you can cheese it, if you use a cart to destroy the chest instead of using a weapon.
If you do it like that, grabbing that item won't make them hostile.
Figure out for yourself π
in time
think i gotta utilize black marble now to make my plains base prettier. i'd make one in mistlands but that seems a bad idea according to most people.
then again i totally forgot, can ballista target gjalls?
They will target anything they can. Including you.
To avoid that you can put a trophy in it to "order" the ballista to fire at a specific monster.
Or you simply load them the moment you will need that weapon
hmm mshould i make the blackforge first or the other one?
I rather like mixing stone and black marble. They contrast eachother well
or does it depend on the playstyle?
is it worth building a base in mistlands?
I'd choose the forge first, but yes, it may depend a bit at play style.
heck why not xD im building one rn lol
I turned an infested mine on a chain of islands into my base. No mist. No mobs spawning. Even raids aren't bothering me.
Itβs fun but I wouldnβt say practical. You could prob use a little outpost to plant mistlands crops
I also personally make a smeltery in mistlands for smelting black metal as you need that IN the mistlands, but you might as well bring it from home
Depends a bit at you want.
In general an area with a portal, workbench, bed and some land to grow the crops will do.
If you're able to locate the Queen, there's a wooden panel at the side of the staircase, leading to some rooms under the staircase which is enough for a bed, portal, workbench and a chest to store some food.
Efficient foothold to the biome
Finding space to grow a garden in the mistlands is problematic. So many places won't allow cultivating
Always good to create farms adjacent to black forest, meadows or the coast in my experience. Minimise the chance of attack from Mistland creatures.
Ngl I hate using terrain to effectively stop attacks
I found one of those inland ponds. Surrounded by tall spires. From above it has a teardrop look to it. I set benches in the crevices all around. Made my garden around the limited perimeter of the pond. Even have dvergr who's taken a liking to the place. Garden security
Posted garden in screenshots
I managed to chisel a farm into a mistland mountain on the coast. Worked well for the most part. (Distant Gjall noises of course!)
Work with what we can in the mist
its pretty nice that the blackforest is connected to my mist
Very pretty
Ty Snail. Turned out pretty sweet. I was just thankful to get crops in the ground. When I climbed up to my portal and looked down I seen what I created lol
After 6 mountains I found an onion seed π
Woww rng can be brutal. Glad you got your start
still need to find the mother of all drakes tho
Got plenty of ice caves waiting to be plundered
You didn't want to go spelunking ey? That fenr gear though.
Wanted the onions first. Frost caves can be dangerous
Fair
Ooo squishy yea
Skirted my swamp on my starter island. Finally found three turnip seed plants near the meadows. I knew I should have gone counterclockwise in my search π
Just got ambushed by 4 drakes and a wolf, so you got your wish I fled into a ice cave
Nice save
Almost just lost the run. Although tbh I'm loving Very Hard so much and want to get to the endgame so if I die from this point imma continue. Still try not to tho!
I find turnips so much easier when looking at the swamps from another biome. It's my go-to method.
That's heart
Is there a point in a half lowered sail
Maneuverability
^ slow/paddle ^^ medium speed ^^^ max speed
If you wanna go not full speed. If you want more maneuverability but still a bit of speed. If you want a serpent to keep up with you but don't wanna sit dead in the water
I barely ever use it
Yep paddle when wind against. Full sail when wind assist
paddle can also be good in mistlands even if wind with you
i wish they'd add a feature where with a crew you can row it
not really necessaryi guess. but i assume when they revisit they might add that
Why can't my wolf row with his jaw?
Would feel awesome when a team gets in sync.
Ok that helps against serpent
is there some sort of horn in valheim that you can blow?
In theory, the minimum speed on each boat is rowing, it's just not animated. And having a 'crew' would go against their ideas of favouring multiplay over single play.
being able to increase speed without wind by having extra players rowing would be awesome
Plus the historic aspect. But point taken
I played solo up to and completing bonemass and the gameplay loop already made multiplayer more favorable to me, but thats for pretty much any survival game. Such a large and beautiful world to explore, its always more fun to share it with your friends
gives me motivation to make nice bases rather than the bare minimum min-max grind cube base
Whatβs new in the world of Valheim?
is the cart an easy thing to use, or is it not worth the hastle?
Depends on terrain and weight in the cart, tbh. Meadows and black forest can be navigable, but steep hills and heavy weight do NOT get along.
i like it
Iβm in the minority Iβm sure, but I donβt find the cart all that useful. I mostly use it around my base, and sometimes (rarely) if I child roads between my main base and an outpost.
I don't like it but in some situations it's useful
I wouldn't bring the cart everywhere, but it's great for transporting ores on your base's continent or bringing ores to a shore to boat them. Building roads, walkways, or bridges for it can make transport easier. That can be a hassle, but it's worthwhile in really bad terrain (swamps) and places you'll use the cart multiple times, like a path from a dock to your base-- at least if it's more than 2-3 stacks of ore, anyway.
In my experience, just stacking 3 stamina foods and using Eikthyr gets the job done effectively without dealing with the hassle of hitting every bump in my way with a cart haha
Nowadays tho I'm sort of with TooMuchDoggMan, since I find the cart too much hassle in the Mountains, I mostly use it to empty dump chests into their proper homes and shuffle supplies around my base. Sometimes for wood gathering.
Cart is kinda a must on mountain for me tho
I still have to try yalls advice on pushing a cart off the side of a mountain lol thatβll be a fun one

good to know, one more thing... is the fandom the preferred wiki, or is their another valheim wiki thats considered better
My primary silver mountain at the moment is so steep and craggy I couldn't take a cart more than 3 meters before it got irreparably stuck π
cart should only be used in moutnains on good paths or to get it down to your ship
Currently the fandom wiki is most up to date afaik. Someone brought up transferring once but did not sway hearts
Ahh, salutations Subject!
yeahhh, autosave is getting turn up to every 5 minutes.. just built an entire dock only for me to sleep and then the game to freeze
cant even turn it up crazy
So I have a swamp loaded with crypts, but it's surrounded on all sides by Plains, even the river that gives it sea access. I'm rockin root armor but gobbos still scare me at this stage. Should I wait and come back to this one later or would it be practical to somehow build a base inside the swamp and store the iron before dashing out with it later? I can't imagine any structure here is gonna last long.
Cart is awesome for pulling an inordinate amount of stuff
Like sayβ¦
12 stacks of copper ore
That's a lotta copper
No way in Hel am I going to walk that to my base π
Yeah my friend and I went on a copper mining spree π
We wonβt use even half of it unless we do a build project - and then we need more tin
Me and my brother took on wolves today to test the strength of our new iron armor, axe, and iron banded shields.
They are not as bad as we thought, however, that's if they are alone and not more than one,They attack slightly faster, and stagger longer than graydwarf brutes, which can be bad if your not good at timing, which I actually do pretty good with
The timing is hard to get used to on wolves, but I'm pretty sure if you block just as you hear the snarl, you'll parry the bite
But yeah, they're difficult in packs~
This is why I like tower shields and pointy sticks
Push them away and retaliate in between snarls
Also helps for packs π
That's kinda what I was going for,I've been able to learn pretty quickly the sound queues for the mobs
I worry about being weighed down when getting mobbed by more than what you can handle.
Can you only use spears with tower shields?
You can use any 1h weapon with tower shields
They work the same as other shields mostly, you just can't parry with them
But they normally have higher base block power, so you don't need to parry to deflect high damage attacks
It just feels like alot more fun to parry, though that means increased chance of getting hit, tanking blows seems like it would feel tedious, but that's probably just me,even in minecraft tanking blows with a shield feels kinda odd
Yeah you can use any weapon with a tower shield - I just recommend spears when dealing with wolves as you have a fast attack time and a decent secondary spear throw
Knives/daggers are just as good for that purpose
Again, tower shield is specifically for getting mobbed by tons of wolves at once
Or go for a buckler and knife - just keep on your toes cause as you parry one wolf another will bite your backside π
Atgirs are also a good choice for wolves as your secondary hits multiple mobs at once
I just lure the wolf packs following me to my friend mining silver.
Yooooou BASTARD!!! π€£π€£π€£
More worried about having my boat get nuked by a leech or mosquito sitting in a bat surrounded by plains and swamp at all ends while I'm off getting iron
Never once used a tower shield. Can't comprehend not being able to parry at whim
Do boarstones respawn?
no
darn
boarstones are one time spawns
though they are a good place to check for starred boars
Yea I got some starred boars from a few walking around, just started a new save since I havent done a solo run since launch
NOOOOOO I WAS GONNA COME TO THEM BUT THEY CAME TO ME!! I was JUST preparing for the trip tomorrow and here they are at my doorstep goddammit #screenshots message
WHAT is going on
"the forest is moving"
they're killing my bees wth
there's like 7 of them
i take that back there were 13
im gonna need to build a fort lol
some fences and a couple of outposts, hopefully they can't do anything to me then
Morning gjall.
If you are sailing a karve, it will save you some wave damage if you get caught in a storm. If you go with full sail you will be crashing into waves so fast it gets damaged, eventually sinking if you keep going...
And now I notice that convo was from tonight... damn discord hadn't updated.
Stakewall should be enough to keep greys out, but yeah some defences will be necessary eventually...
Eventually you can dig a moat and / or put earthen walls up.
Find a nice island to make your base on and spawn proof it, no worries what so ever then.
The power of the almighty Hoe
I found blackforest, killed my first troll
Honestly though, the one thing that bothers me about Valheim balancing is how superior terraforming is to using constructed defences. Too late to change now, but maybe the stronger creatures should have had the ability to damage those earth walls...
I took shelter in a stone tower and kept shooting away at the troll lol
what if i just keep doing that, take temporary shelters and live the nomad life
has anyone done a no base run before
It works, but you'll need to set up a crafting station where you have the facilities to upgrade and craft stuff
... there is a giant stone node that i was completely oblivious to until it said copper deposit
that doesn't look like copper lol it just looks like mosssy stone to me
Or maybe just making stone walls a wee bit stronger, feels like mobs can tear them down as if they were made of straw
hopefully i didn't pass on too many of those
i guess copper is only available in blackforest right?
Yes, you'll need to find tin too so you can turn it into bronze
i was literally getting the tin next to it until my cursor accidentally detected "copper node"
much later π
what a crazy trip i can't believe i survived
Hehehe good job!
and as is customary to every trip i always return without my upgraded spear xD
it's the third time now, starting to get expensive
why are spears so hard to retrieve, i threw it at the troll's eye and i never got it back
Might be easier to find if you reduce vegetation detail temporarily, world looks awful that way though
Oh they've changed that. At minimum setting you removed all grass before, turning the ground into a flat texture. That's been changed, when did this happen?
Blackforest is indeed the only biome with copper nodes.
Other places provide copper in other ways though.
"Best" way to go about getting copper ore from a node is digging all around it and under it and then making it explode.
Though you'll need to clear 1-2 meters all around so no hitbox from copper touches a hitbox from the surrounding area.
Ohh animals in blackforest drop more loot, THAT'S AWESOME
I got like 4 hide out of that deer, i hope they're all like that
hopefully i find a high level boar next cause im short on scrap
was starting to get rly boring killing 10 boars for 10 leather in meadows lol
Nope, they drop the same as others, some animals will have a star or 2 and those drop more loot.
For 2 star boars you need to be 800 meters from spawn, you can tame boars and breed them, later on you can also tame wolves don't read the hidden part if you don't want to know where and how to find 2 star wolves ||(2star wolves appear only at night in the mountains)|| and loxes which can't have stars.
Starred deer have antlers - the big ones are the two-stars
