Try looking into minimalist/barefoot style shoes if you haven't! Thin soles, zero heel drop, wider toe box. Amazon whitin shoes are actually rather good and long lasting - just buy the mens, the sole on the womens wears out faster.

Super comfy, flexes with your foot, you can feel what you're stepping on while still being protected from glass etc.

I would disagree, I used to go barefoot all the time and its a nice compromise for health & safety. Far more comfortable than other shoes, feels a lot more like you're not wearing shoes than you'd expect, your gait and foot move and function like they do when you are walking barefoot

The flexing is the point, gotta be able to hit the brake and the gas with the same foot while I'm using the clutch with the other one

Yeah, not no soles, or the toe pocket ones. Just a very form-fitting and thin and flexible sole compared to most shoes. It gives a lot more tactile feedback, but otherwise they look and act like regular shoes.

Which is why I want to try them for racing, because they'll give me the friction and safety of a shoe but more tactile feedback from the pedals than most.

But arches are tied to the muscles in your feet and going barefoot more / wearing shoes that allow your feet and muscles to activate like they would barefoot can sometimes help rebuild your arches.
